Chapter 4: The Golr'aar

[Linwelin]

Uthaal nods at Din's observation. "It seems the room is clear. We need to end this unhallowed ritual fast. Viran, Ardeth, you're the arcane experts here, try and figure out if there's a way to dispel it. The rest of us will keep watch."

This way of speaking was strange for the druid, as he is not one to bark orders. As you all begin to move, anyone who is surprised by the commanding statements notices Uthaal gripping his arm tightly. There is a small line of blood flowing slowly over his hand from under his sleeve and dripping from his fingers to the ground. You know he was not hit in that arm.

He grits his teeth. The wound is starting to bleed, we need to hurry or the ritual will complete!

[Hasabushi]

Tebastion felt his skin crawl as the monk spoke, though he could not necessarily detect evil in the magic sense, he could sense something foreboding and not of this plane.

"Is there a way to release them, allow them to continue their journey, this must be torture most cruel and heinous."

[Linwelin]

Uthaal, looks back, a conflicting mix of despair and hope reflected in his eyes. "We can only hope, my friend...The rest is up to our mages here...just hope...hope and pray." As he speaks the last half of his sentence, he turns back toward the ritual, reflecting on all of his knowledge to gain whatever insight he can on how to stop this horrid spell.

Uthaal
You stare deeply into the wall beside you trying to discern if there was anything your knowledge would be able to help out. You wanted answers, or perhaps a hint of recognition in the swirling word's designs, or even clues to help put an end to the strange scrawling and trapped souls. But the moment you started to attempt to piece out any clues, a wave of tormented screams assault you; it felt as if it attacked your very soul.

Roll a Will save when you can.

Nodding as the druid gave his commands, Ardeth strode forward, making her way towards the spiraling sinister patterns on the floor. While the druid was busy attempting to understand the sprawling names of sealed souls, Ardeth went to see if the circular patterns were familiar. She recalled back her days of training in the Mystic Blades Academy she had attended, and attempted to recall all the sorts of symbols or magicks that could cause such a thing.

Ardeth
Although you realize that the symbol on the floor was some sort of glyph. You cannot recall anything in your past studies that relate to what you see now. However, the pattern was familiar, and you knew instantly that the shifting and swirling lines on the floor was some sort of trap.

[Linwelin]

Realizing all too late that he was getting sucked in like the other poor souls, Uthaal desperately fought the spells with all he could muster, weakened as he was. "Gah! Gods no! Not today!"

The group sees him struggling, his face contorted with concentration.

Willing your thoughts and mind away from the crawling words, you manage to resist the wave of physic energy that assaulted you.

[Throndir]

"The more prominent red glyphs in the center are a trap." She started to say, but immediately stopped as she watched her companion seem to get assaulted by something invisible. Perhaps the druid might have inadvertently sprung a trap similar to what the glyphs in front of them? She focused her mind and centered her gaze at the druid meaning to help him in his struggle.

Some sort of aid another if its possible.

Uthaal drops to his knees, panting. That...was close... He looks over to Ardeth, nodding his thanks, then gathers himself and stands again.

"They...screamed. These souls screamed in agony. I guess the trap syncs you with them somehow if you examine it too intently. I felt their pain...it's...I...we have to stop this!" He looks back at Ardeth. "I wasn't able to hear well, you were explaining what you discovered?"

Tebastion watched in amazement and horror as the events took place with Uthaal and Ardeth. The centaur never had a "knack" for magic, he did try and study some of the arcane while at the Monastery in which he was being trained to be a Paladin, but he could never wrap his mind around the amount of concentration required. What baffled him most is that there appeared to be no faith in anyone or anything to warp the arcane energies. The Paladin felt it much more gratifying to call upon "The One" and bring forth whatever it was that he was asking for.

He watched as Uthaal screamed in anguish feeling completely helpless in what was transpiring, thankfully Ardeth was able to intervene. Tebastion could only imagine what horrors lay ahead...

The mystic blade drew in a deep breath, shaking off the adrenaline from moments before. "Those patterns you see," she said as she pointed towards the more sinister and shifting symbols up ahead, "are some sort of trap."

[Linwelin]

Uthaal groans a little, shaking off the remnant feeling from the psychic assault. Well I've figured that out now. He thinks to himself. The problem now is how to deal with it...I wonder what triggers it?

"Ardeth, do you know what kind of trap? Do you think a simple stone could spring it, or that you can dispell it somehow? I know we can't handle many more of those psychic attacks, so toughing it out isn't an option..."

[Throndir]

She shrugged.

"Care to try?" Ardeth grinned as she picked up a stone and lightly tossed it Uthaal's way. "I do know this though, it is magical or divine in nature."

[Linwelin]

Uthaal catches it, looks to the runes and grins in vengeful pleasure, silly as it seemed, "It'd be my pleasure."

With that he skips it across the ground and off the walls, doing everything possible to try to spring the trap.
