Daniel wasn't really one for gambling, In fact he would never have taken a look inside had he not heard rumors that they had goods you couldn't get easily in stores. And after finding himself with a little spare change from buying travel supplies, he figured why not? After all, he'd made it to Goldenrod City. Daniel would at least take a peek.

That peek proved to be final push. The prize shop had so many fantastic items on display, he couldn't help but hope to gain one of them. Thus the next few hours were spent, Bolt on his shoulder for luck, praying for that jackpot.

Hours later

"Gah!" Daniel groaned to himself, Bolt nudging his cheek in comfort. And probably hunger. Well, Daniel would fix that soon. It still wasn't quite evening yet. "Just one more run at it, buddy, then we'll head home. I know I shouldn't be getting my hopes up, but those rewards would be so nice~"

And so, a few more hours passed.

Nena Ains / Fayleen Ains

"This is the place that old man showed me before." Fayleen said as she pointed to the flashing signs marking the place as the 'Celadon Game Corner'. The journey to the place wasn't so bad, unlike the Xan Academy which was at the outskirts of the city, the Game Corner was at the very center of the town. At the very least, there was plenty of people playing the machines and games that they offered.

"Okay... let's see how many prizes we can get? They have some shooting games I think I'm totally gonna be great at." Fayleen said excitedly as she grabbed her sister's hand and started pulling her to the entrance.

"U-um... I don't know sis... Do they have any medicine or knowledge games?" Nena said as she hesitantly pulled back, momentarily curtailing Fayleen's pull on her. Fayleen laughed, thinking the comment a joke, but when she turned around to see Nena's serious expression did she stop and consider the question.

"Well... I think they should have quiz games... But those are hardly fun, we're not in school so let's not treat it like that!" Fayleen grinned, but Nena continued to be slightly cautious. She did however, let herself be dragged to the store.

"Quizzes are fun though..." Nena said quietly under her breath. Of course since the game corner was so lively and loud, Fayleen didn't hear at all. "Fay..." Nena said pleadingly.

"It'll be fun! Come on, let's go ask someone if there's any quiz games. If you're good enough with them we'll get a ton of prizes."

Miera Fieren

Miera stood at the corner of an alley, watching the building across the street. It had a flashing sign that read "Mauville Game Corner." She had never entered such a building herself, but while it claimed to be a game corner, she had heard such places were actually gambling centers. Gambling was supposed to be enjoyable, but the girl could not understand how such a thing could be found enjoyable. You put money into a pot, or gave money to an attendant, or whatever you did, you essentially gave money up. Then, you have a chance of winning or losing, and hoping you can at least get the same amount of money you put in. According to others, the chance was usually pure luck, since games such as what could be find there could be rigged if the "business" was not honest.

Whether or not Miera found the act of gambling enjoyable or not, she had no choice. Her mission was to follow a certain person while maintaining a low profile. She knew she had to actually go into the building, but that meant in order to blend in, she would also have to "play" some games. She had better things to do with her money, but she supposed she could make the client pay her back if she did not make it back in the game corner.

With a sigh, the spy made her way across the street and into the building. After finding her target once again, she found a game nearby to play while she kept an eye on him.

Aran Verse

"So it really does exist..." Aran wondered aloud when he finally set eyes on the famed Goldenrod Game Center, one of four Game Centers that had sprung up inside the city. As always, the casino was packed, with crowds already forming outside, all just waiting for their chance to get in. Whether they by old, young, boy, or girl, the people comprising the crowds today came from all walks of life: There was a martial artist, a cheer leader, yet another bug trainer, and a... a fashionista? It helped that everyone dressed as per their stereotype, as if it were some part of city mandate. Had the crowds actually worn unique clothing, it would have been far more difficult to identify them. Though perhaps that was why they did it, Aran thought aimlessly. Deliberate profiling. Society was great.

Regardless, the Four Game Centers were all the rage within the city. Even those not prone to gamble were seen trying their hand at the various games set up within. Certain demographics, particularly those of a more seedier variety, were even known to visit the place day-in and day-out. Most prominent amongst all these groups, however, were the young children.

Aran sighed inwardly, as he saw the innumerable waves of children that endlessly flocked around the casino. A rare few left bitter and dejected, but most others bounced away with a spring in their step. Though they've been running through the wilds without any prior adult supervision to find and beat countless wild pokemon senseless, the children were now peacefully gambling in this rather fine establishment, once again without any adult supervision. It was all in order to entrust their hard-earned pay with a roll of the die. Even those as young as ten were busy pulling slots and rolling dice with the best of them.

Fresh into the "Pokemon Journey," and already hooked with gambling, Aran carefully observed. Truly, society at its finest.

Thus, the man found himself sighing more often these days, especially with the information of these latest events. In retrospect, such information hadn't been difficult to come by, as evidenced by the large crowds outside; he had simply never put much stock in the reports about the place. For a casino of all things to rig the games in the customer's favor was already hard to believe, but for that same casino to stay afloat despite such a handicap was difficult to fathom. Just what manner of organization could possibly fund such an enterprise? Aran thought idly. And what was their reason?

A plethora of questions hounded Aran's mind now that he confirmed the validity of the rumors with his own eyes. He was truly thankful that such a business existed and he would no doubt profit from it later... but he was not naive enough to believe such gifts were freely given. For he had developed certain instincts throughout all his time spent as a member of Team Rocket and even before that with his life as a rogue.

And now, those instincts were telling him something was horribly, horribly wrong.

There was clearly more to these "Game Centers" then met the eye. In comparison, the city's shopping district were more simple and direct: you receive the product you desire and the store then receives immediate compensation in the form of pokedollars. The store then uses these accumulated pokedollars to purchase even more products and thus the cycle begins anew. However, such was not the case with these casinos.

Instead, you receive tremendous casino prizes and while the casino does receive some token compensation for their services, it alone is not enough to continue the cycle. The stores, at least, were provided with more than enough dollars to restock their products and even make a little extra on the side, but the casinos were practically given mere scraps compared to the prizes they consistently gave out. This wasn't natural. Something does not come out from nothing; therefore, these "Game Centers" were clearly receiving "compensation" from elsewhere in order to keep the business running.

That then begs the question:

...Just where could that kind of money possibly come from?

At the rate that customers were streaming in at a daily basis, the casino should have become bankrupt within a week, maybe less. But it didn't. There was obviously a powerful force backing these so called "Game Centers," else they would never have been able to even dream of pulling off such a stunt.

Aran momentarily wracked his brain, as he thought about it. It was certainly a bold move, he had to admit. This "powerful force" had never been "on the radar" before, even after all this time. To willingly reveal themselves now only furthered Aran's beliefs that they were plotting something big, something worth revealing their existence for. And Aran lived in this world long enough to know that the current power groups weren't about to take this lying down. At the very least, Rocket wouldn't.

In addition to the earlier topic, when did the Game Center's compensation even arrive? This was important because of the casino's disassociation from the normal compensation method: For in the store's case, it received payment immediately after the customer obtains a product, thereby ensuring a swift continuation of the cycle. However, the casino did not truly receive its compensation from its customers and instead relied primarily on an external source. This meant that the casinos were being compensated at regular, frequent intervals despite all the heavy traffic surrounding the place.

Given that, these Compensaters, or so Aran dubbed the unknown powerful force, must truly be stealthy, Aran surmised in quiet reflection. Their past achievements in remaining undetected aside, the Compensaters latest actions implied considerable skill in the arts of stealth. For not once did the Rocket reports ever mention anything about suspicious crates, supply wagons or anything of the sort coming by to regularly resupply the casinos.

Surely, the emergence of such things in the crowded streets surrounding the Game Centers would create a stir. At the very least, the Rocket agents on the field would have noticed. They had trained their whole lives to detect such things after all. What was most worrying...

...was that they had detected nothing at all.

Now, there were very few things worth all that effort to hide, Aran believed. Most of these things, however, left a sour taste in his mouth. He shivered with the thought, and for a Rocket member to shiver at any thought was never a good sign. Well, so long as I don't poke my head in too deeply, it shouldn't be of much concern to me, Aran thought rather belatedly. For he was no philanthropist.

Someone else could save the world.

He would rather join the masses cheering safely from the sidelines. Moral Support, he thought dryly. It's the greatest.

After all, it took far too much effort to "save" the world and the pay was horrendous. Besides, it was too unlike him. To he who desires a quiet, peaceful, and relatively long life, becoming a "Hero" was something fresh out of a nightmare. Aran was content with just protecting the small patch of dirt around him and those within. So long as the Compensaters had nothing to do with him, then he would have nothing to do with them. Thus decided, he entered the facility as yet another flocking customer, eager to take advantage of the casino's sudden "generosity."

The Boulder

"It... It's a giant boulder!" The Boulder exclaimed as he looked upon his destination in wonder: the Veilstone Game Corner. There were no deeper thoughts, no quiet reflection of the significance of such a structure and what it represented. No, The Boulder was a simple man and simplicity was sometimes for the best.

"The Boulder is intrigued by this boulder. It's a nice boulder even by The Boulder's bold standards, don't you think, Boulder?" The Boulder asked Boulder who was beside him as together they looked upon this most intriguing boulder.

Moments later, his face stiffened and his jaw was set.

"Come Boulder, the Boulder implores you. We're going inside that boulder."
"A wish? Okay, genie, make me a ham sandwich."

Fellow Rabbit

THANE

Emitting radiant arrogance with each and every step he took, the great and powerful THANE marched in as hurried a fashion he could without making it look like the magnificently flashy buildings were a destination he was anxious to reach. On the contrary! It wasn't the building at all that had initially piqued his interest; it was the absolutely bustling and somehow ever-expanding crowd that had formed outside of them. Adults, children, toddlers; bug-catchers, fisherman, aromatherapists; humans, Pok?mon, and perhaps even some inanimate objects, had gathered quite conspicuously to draw all kinds of attention to itself. Crowds like these didn't just appear for no reason. There must have been some kind of event! Something used to control the masses! Thane would have liked to believe he had no choice but to take notes on what could possibly enthrall such a large mass of plebeian filth all at the same time ? not that he would have preferred the option not to anyway. His very essence revolved around discovered the most effective means possible to ensure the docility of these horrible weak-minded... commoners! Thus his self-administered mission had become inescapably clear: find the center of these peoples' attention.

Even for somebody as infinitely dim-witted brilliant as the almighty THANE, the answer to his resounding question was quite quickly revealed. The center of attention was indeed this quite interestingly-architectured building which stood right in the middle of the congregation. But what, pray tell, could it possibly have to offer that the amazing THANE could stand to replicate in order to further his plan to enslave all humanity? This he would find out at any cost.

"You!" he shouted at the top of his lungs to a completely random bystander in the crowd, "I demand you take me to the director of this establishment! He will tell me all of his secrets! Or else..." In front of him, he raised a fist up to his eye level and squeezed as if doing so would squeeze the information he required out of the man.

The man he had screamed at was visibly confused. And perhaps slightly offended at Thane's pretension. He subconsciously took a half-step back, but ultimately stood his ground. By the time Thane had finished what he had to say, the guy had raised his arms as if trying to calm the self-important midget before he tried anything rash. "Whoa, man. I'm just here to try my luck. I don't even know who runs this place."

THANE, in all his glory, simply blinked at the man, awkwardly staring into his soul for the seemingly endless beat following his response, before suddenly extending his arm ahead of him at the man, pointer finger extended. "You're lying!" he yelled quite emphatically. Then, without awaiting the pitiful man's reaction, immediately began shoving and pushing through the crowd, elbowing anybody who dared obstruct his path and undoubtedly inflicting pain to several of them in the process, until he reached the entrance to the building. By this time, tens of angry voices were berating his blatant obscenity. THANE, of course, in all his boundless wisdom, opted to simply ignore them, lest he risk unleashing the suffering of a thousand drowning children upon them. With a few more pushes and at least one more shove, which may or may not have completely knocked one or more others to the floor, the undeniably radiant THANE stepped inside the Mauville Game Corner.

There, inside the building at last, he feasted his eyes on the technological advancement of the Hoenn Region. It was absolutely pitiful! They didn't even have any death rays! How could they possibly hope to control the masses without the ability to instantly destroy them if they acted up? Surely they were utterly daft! This, the Rocket Grunt thought, was unarguably something that should be taken note of. He retrieved his notepad from his pocket and carefully wrote No Death Rays as the first item in a bulleted list he would use to describe the methods of the facility. Thereafter he quickly returned the notepad to its place in his pants pocket, gazing profusely around him to ensure nobody had seen where he put it. They could not learn what he knows. No doubt he knew too much already and they would capture and interrogate him if they found out he was there as a spy.

But then, maybe that wasn't all he was there for. All up and down the interior of the structure were machines that appeared to take real-life money from people in exchange for the rotation three wheel-like objects decorated with simply clip-art. He almost immediately found that the section of each wheel with the bright blue seven seemed to excite its audiences the most, particularly when three of them were visible in a row by the time they had stopped spinning. Quite intriguing, THANE had to admit, but surely this wasn't enough in itself to ascertain these fools' uncontested devotion and loyalty. Perhaps a closer inspection was in order.

It was quite simple enough that the boundlessly intellectual THANE could work out how the "game" was played without much thought put into it. You put in money, which by this time he had discovered to be precisely $150, pull the fancy level on the right side of the machine, and simply wait as the slots align in a seemingly random fashion. He knew he had enough money to put at least a couple of attempts into the machine, and any Rocket knew it was to further the cause of the organization. Thus, it wasn't just THANE's liberty to play the casino's games. It was his duty. And he wouldn't dream of failing the administration. Thus he began his gambling for the day.

As observed, he inserted several coins into the machine until there was enough, and then pulled the lever. Never before had he been left in a position of such tension. The wheels seemed to turned for an eternity, then another, and another, until at last, at the end of the fourteenth eternity, the first of the three wheels jerked to a halt. A seven. This, he calculated, was perhaps rather common. Nothing to get terribly excited about. Things grew quite edgy as the next batch of eternities passed the wonderful and amazing THANE by, until the second wheel slow to a stop, also revealing the number seven.

"Ha!" the irrepressible THANE scoffed, "I am already the master of your sick little games! None can possibly fathom the power of THANE!"

But then the third wheel silently screeched to a halt, and everything the Rocket member thought he knew was suddenly put into question. The third wheel, in all its spite and misfortune, yielded naught but the image of a lowly Cherri Berry. This was unacceptable! The game corner would pay dearly for this grave error.

"SECURITY!" he screeched , pointing quite dramatically at the machine that took his hard-earned money. "This machine is broken!"

THANE, in all his unwavering grandeur, gambles vigorously throughout the remainder of the day, spending all the money he could on 3 attempts to MONOPOLIZE THE GAMBLING HOBBY.
