THANE

"Yes, Troy! Yeeess! You will eradicate those pestilent little piggies!" The incontestably terrific THANE had taken great efforts to ensure his Spinda's ascent to its rightful place as the most powerful Pok?mon to ever exist. Today, he doubled over his efforts by using the Pok?mon's apparently endless supply of rubber pinkies as fodder. Troy was nearly in tears at the thought of hurting his piggy friends at first, but after some "mild" persuasion, the Pok?mon decided there were more than enough piggies to go around, although really it probably would have took much less abuse to change the mindless Spinda's mind. The indubitably superb THANE only assumed that it would be hard to change something that wasn't there.

The Spinda tackled like there was no tomorrow, seeming to treat every movement in made as if he were being filmed for some ninja action movie, screaming loudly as he charged the rubber piggy. Then, in a flash of awesomeness that the indisputably genius THANE was wholly proud of, Troy made impact with the fabricated swine, completely obliterating it. The Spinda, believing itself to be an action hero, remained in position a few feet after the point of impact, maintaining a kneeling position with one hand on the ground to support himself and one arm extended out to his side. He didn't even care whether or not his trainer was impressed with the theatrics. To Troy, for a fleeting moment, no other life existed within a mile, for he had destroyed it and thus had completed his mission to infiltrate and destroy the rebel piggy base.

"AHAHAHAHAHA! They'll never see it coming!" the ridiculously fabulous THANE laughed, referring to his enemies, "With your power and my unparalleled ingenuity, we will utterly annihilate anyone who dares get in our way!" Oh, yes, there was no doubt about it. With Troy at his side, the indescribably majestic THANE would rule the world with unsurpassed glory! Surely even the lives of these artificial piglets were worth less to Troy than the thought of controlling a factory that could construct an army of the filthy toys with incessant squeaking and their horrible deceptive allure. The thought of which, in fact, was slightly less appealing to the definitely perfect THANE.

Indeed it crossed the infinitely astute THANE's pansophical mind that the less-brilliant Spinda might come up with such an idea, and so the Rocket Grunt continuously racked his brain to formulate a series of measures to take against it. He had long ago lost track of exactly how many rubber piggies Troy had accumulated since the undeniably wonderful THANE's first encounter with him, but it had to be in the thousands by now. Convincing the Spinda to destroy them under the guise of training was one of perhaps many plans the strategically prodigious THANE had come up with to reduce the number abominable hog toys he would have to deal with on his journeys. As a bonus, they also aided in the vision he had for destroying all that society had built up and rebuilding a glorious empire of his own.

"All according to plan," he added silently.

"Alright! So today's going to be a rather special training session. Bolt, I'm going to have you do a mock battle with Rue. Think of it as teaching." Bolt tilted his head at the idea, looking back questioningly at Daniel, while Rue donned a rather fearful look. As I thought, she has some slight trauma toward Bolt from the capture. I'd noticed it when they both were out together. Daniel nodded to himself. This was the best way.

"But before we start, I want you both to have a little of this." Daniel motions to a formless, applesauce-like foodstuff he's prepared. They looked apprehensively at it. "What? It's not going to taste bad! I know it doesn't look appetizing, but it's nutritious and should get you some extra growth from the sparring." Goaded on by Daniel, Bolt and Rue took a bite. Then another. And in the end finished it. It WAS pretty good, though the texture was weird.

"Basically, I want you both to be used to each other's movements, and your ways of thinking. This'll help you fight together if there's ever a need. Obviously Bolt has more experience in combat, so he'll be showing you the ropes, Rue. And remember, this is just sparring, don't go trying to injure each other. If something DOES happen, I'll be here to help, but I'd like to have a pleasant meal and break afterward." Daniel said with a smile. The two of them looked at each other, both somewhat uncertain, and Rue looking fairly unwilling. Seeing this, Daniel knelt beside the little Petilil. "There's nothing to worry about." He said while petting her head, "That fearful situation will never happen again. If anything, this is so you can protect yourself from others that try the same thing. Also...well, I think you can actually defeat Bolt if you put your mind to it. You underestimate yourself, Rue." Rue was still looking scared as she looked back up at Dan, but at those words she hesitantly nodded and prepared to spar.

Daniel then went over to Bolt, "She's still scared of you from when we caught her, buddy. I'll be guiding her more than you, since I trust your battle sense. Try not to do anything too intimidating, we're just trying to give her more confidence. Also, this will be the first time you've taken any attacks from her, it'll be a good experience for you. Do your best!" Daniel patted his friend a few times before getting back up, stepping to the side, and addressing the both of them. "I'll be supervising and offering advice for how to deal with each other...ready? Begin!"

And so the two of them began, Bolt charging in and using Leer. Daniel smirked. He's gotten a better battle sense...good. However, he saw Rue hesitating a bit, especially under the fearful gaze. Uh oh.

"Rue, don't give in! Prepare yourself by using Growth!" Daniel's call somewhat snapped her out of her shaken state and she absorbed energy in order to strengthen herself. Next, Bolt was finally in range for a full-on tackle, and Daniel knew this was the most important time to instruct Rue. "The tackle's coming! Instead of trying to avoid, take the hit and use it to land your Absorb attack! This will sponge the damage while still landing your own attack. You can do it, Rue!" Rue froze for a moment at the instruction, which kept her from dodging even though she'd wanted to. The idea alone was completely opposite from her natural reaction, but at this point, there was no better option than to try it. Daniel said it would make the dreaded Tackle from Bolt easier, and she had no reason to think otherwise. He always tried to help her.

Bolt knew the command given, but even he was surprised with how effective the counter was, and growled a little as he backed off to re-think his approach. Rue, on the other hand, felt...surprisingly well, even after being pushed back. The Growth had buffed her Absorb, and the recovery from using it as a counter instead of offensively almost completely nulled the damage taken. It was then that Daniel's words from before echoed in her mind.

I think you can actually defeat Bolt if you put your mind to it. You underestimate yourself, Rue.

Rue looked back toward Bolt to see he'd taken a decent hit from that Absorb. She had the advantage...! She could fight! Daniel noticed the slight change in Rue's stance and smiled happily. "Alright Rue, Growth one more time! Bolt, since you're dealing with special attacks, use Charge! It's a good habit to have for when you can use electric attacks, but it also increases resistance to attacks like that Absorb." Both took a moment to setup up for their next attack, then Bolt followed up with another Leer while circling. Rue decided to just delay, which Daniel was impressed by. Yes, it was her nature to be passive, but it took a lot to not rush in in the middle of combat. He was extremely proud of both of them.

"This will be the last attack! Then we'll talk over what happened and relax." Both pokemon readied themselves, then Bolt made his approach, coming in for another Tackle. This time, Rue didn't freeze up, and properly waited for the hit. The two leers had certainly been effective, but since Rue wasn't defensive to begin with, it didn't change much. Same for the defensive buff with Charge. However, the two Growths had added nicely to the Absorb damage, completely wearing Bolt out. In fact, he looked injured...! Rue, on the otherhand was near perfect health. "...The battle is over! Rue wins this spar!" At that declaration, Bolt flops down on the ground and both Daniel and Rue run over to him. The last absorb seemed to have sapped strength from his tackling shoulder, leaving him with a limp.

Daniel immediately took out his aid kit and began bandaging the area while Rue looked onward. She was surprised that she'd left him in such a state with just two attacks. Bolt could see the worry and surprise on her face, wagging his tail over and patting her head with it while growling out something. This seemed to settle Rue a little, but even so she stood by while the treatment happened. After all, she was the cause.

Once things were back in order, Daniel laid down in the grass with his two partners and talked over the spar. How Bolt was at a clear disadvantage due to Rue's recovery, and how Rue being the slower one to move actually benefited her abilities because of that recovery. At the end of the discussion, both Bolt and Daniel looked over to Rue. "I hope this showed you you don't need to be so afraid, Rue. You're strong, and even if you do have trouble, we've got your back." Bolt chirruped out his approval of the statement. No one among the three of them had thought the spar would be so one-sided like that.

Before it got dark, Daniel made sure to give Rue water so she could nourish herself from the remaining sunlight, then began cooking a simple meal for everyone to enjoy from the local vegetation. Since this was such a peaceful time, Daniel decided not to recall Rue and Bolt into their balls, and all three rested in his tent for a good night's rest.

Day 45

'I spent the better part of yesterday shadowing a particular character who calls himself THANE. Although he acts like an idiot when he is at base, I believe this to be a guise to fool everyone into overlooking him. To train his Spinda, THANE set up an insane amount of rubber pig toys that he had apparently been collecting for weeks. He proceeded to give the Spinda orders, as though it were a special mission, to eradicate the rubber toys. Troy, the Spinda, then put to use some very impressive moves and did indeed infiltrate and eradicate the "piggies". I made sure to take pictures and have included copies with this report.

There is a chance that Troy is actually the brains of the duo. However, THANE did exclaim very loudly that "they'll never see it coming" and that they will "utterly annihilate anyone who dares" to get in their way.

I will continue my observations on this THANE and his Spinda and would request a secondary unit for this mission.'

Her observations from the previous day troubled her greatly. Were there other Rocket members who were on a similar level as THANE? Was it all a ruse to fool non-Rocket members into believe them to be stupid idiots so that no one would take them seriously until it was too late? She hoped Maxie would have ideas. At the very least, he could send her a back-up unit for her to discuss things such as this with while they waited for replies to their reports.

There was a small commotion going on behind her. It sounded like her two Shroomish were doing some sort of cheer or their version or applause. Curious, she turned to look at the small group of Pok?mon. Her move photography book lay open to the page that contained her shots of the Spinda's actions the previous day. Vesper was in the middle of mimicking one of the moves he had seen the Spinda do whilst the two Shroomish and the Torchic she had decided to keep and train watched. Zhar was watching very intently, as though he were studying the Espurr's movements. When Vesper finished, the two Shroomish cheered again.

Zhar chirped as though to catch everyone's attention before attempting to copy to the best of his ability what Vesper had just done. It wasn't the best, but it was good that he was finally joining in with the others and trying things out. She had not actually put any time to train him since his capture, deciding after dealing Chanterelle crying several times during training from fright that it would be best to have her Pok?mon get to know each other and herself before throwing them into a training session.

When Zhar finished, Miera continued to watch as Vesper pointed at the book. The Torchic walked over to see what Vesper was pointing at and after a few minutes of him staring at one of the pictures, Vesper started in another round.

Fellow Rabbit

Vinny Drechsler

Hours, perhaps even a full day had passed since he had set up his flawless trap in the middle of the academy grounds. A hole covered with sticks, then leaves, and finally covered up by the dirt around it. But somehow, by some completely whacked-out stroke of misfortune, Vinny had found that even now, after all this time, not a single Magikarp had found its way into his hole. It simply boggled his mind that a plan so foolproof could have turned out to be such a failure thus far. He had no choice but to continue waiting ? not sleeping, eating, or interacting with other human beings ? until he had finally captured a stray creature in his snare.

He involuntarily sacrificed berries to make sure this trap would work, after all. If that kind of treasure had simply gone to waste, then all hope he ever had for the idea of a forgiving universe would be lost forever. And that he couldn't have. If it really came down to it, he would force the trap to work somehow! Even if he had to go out into the woods and capture a beast with his bare hands just so he could throw it into the hole, he would make sure that his berry hole would give him more than it took away.

He really hoped it wouldn't come to that, of course, for by the time he would lose his mind waiting for this trap to work, he suspected he would find himself quite hungry and sleep depraved and therefor probably not really willing to go all Steve Irwin out in the jungles until he caught something.

But that was the thing, wasn't it? He had no idea if he would ever catch anything. Whatever creature or human could have possibly had the absence of mind to dig this hole in the middle of the academy property in the first place must have been some kind of lunatic. Even Vinny could deduce that. The fact that he had fallen into it even before it was covered, however, proved that it was the perfect place to capture unsuspecting creatures. It was both an opportunity Vinny couldn't pass up and a loss (of berries) that he couldn't possibly allow himself to leave unaccounted for.

But it was growing very late. Or early, rather. Night had fallen hours ago and it was perhaps likely that the sun would be rising in the sky in just a couple of hours. Vinny had been sitting next to his tree and watching the site of his trap since early evening the night before. He hadn't slept. He hadn't eaten. He may or may not have even blinked during that whole time period. He just watched. And that was what he would continue to do until either he could bear it anymore or he caught that elusive Magikarp. Such was the way of the Magikarp trainer.

Shoot, it's already gotten this late!

Corey shouted mentally as he ran down the path toward his usual training site. Due to it being so late, he decided it would be best to cut through the park in front of the academy nearby. He usually avoided it due to being seen easily, but with dusk approaching that chance was pretty slim. Either way, he wanted to make it quick.

Alright, I'm almost half way, then I'll-"Wha-!?"

And down into the pitfall he went. A pitfall with berries. "What in the world is this doing here!? Either way, I need to get out before I'm spotted. Chomps, come out here and give me a hand!" Corey quietly exclaimed as he called out him partner. "I need you to dig out a portion of this hole, large enough so that I can jump up and reach the rim. Consider this training for the day." Chomps hissed a little before marching over to the wall and beginning his excavation. It took around 45 minutes to get a good sized foothold, but just as they were nearing the right height, Corey heard a noise. "Oh no!" Corey whispered panicked to himself. "Someone's there! Quick, Chomps, let's hide in the crevice you dug out over here."

Spoiler
Corey trains Chomps for an hour. Not sure if Chugs wanted to RP this out more, so I'm leaving it open-ended.

#102
Kathos Sigon

Slowly the sun crept up over the horizon and shined perfectly through a hole in his blinds and right into Sigon's eye. There, it seemed, it waited for as long as it could get away with before it would move along on its path across the sky. It was just enough to rudely awaken Sigon from a dream where he simultaneously won the lottery, married the girl of his dreams, found a wad of $100 bills in the street, and got a 4-in-1 360? quickscope in his favorite video game. The revelation that none of those fortunate circumstances were real quickly left his day off to a bad start.

He slowly opened his eyes, careful to try not to let in too much sunlight at once, lest he risk unleashing the intensity of a thousand nuclear explosions upon his uncovered eyeballs. Beside him lay the first sight he set his eyes upon that day: a sleeping Togepi that had drool dripping out of the corner of its mouth. No doubt this Togepi was probably dreaming about food and food-related things. He thought it best not to awaken the baby Pok?mon just yet. That way, at least one of them would be able to finish the best of dreams.

Naturally, that meant he wouldn't be able to move for the better part of the next two hours. Or more, depending on how delectable the food was in Parfait's dream. What on Earth could he possibly do to fill that time? Should he begin planning for what they should do that day? Should he work on a long-term plan to raise money to get the items he would need for a more serious Pok?mon journey? Should he go back to sleep? Should he just sit there and watch Parfait sleep, listening to his heavy breathing and trying not laugh at every errant twitch? The possibilities were endless, if perhaps a tad boring-sounding to anyone but Sigon.

Although, as wonderful as each of those choices sounded (particularly that last one), it became quickly apparent that none of them would be an option any longer, for Parfait's eyes burst open. Then, without warning, the Togepi shook his head, flinging drool off its chin and all over Sigon's face. Soon after, it leaned back slightly and donned a wholly content smile. "Toge-breeeee~"

Sigon, on the other hand, wasn't exactly pushed into a brighter mood, now having to wipe his Pok?mon's saliva from his cheeks and mouth. "Thanks a lot, Parfait," he deadpanned. That surely wasn't kind of thing anybody he knew of would have liked to wake up to, even if it was coming from one of the cutest Pok?mon he could think of. It would be annoying enough having to wipe one's own spit from their face, but that of a Pok?mon's was much, much worse. He hoped to God he wouldn't have to wake up to something like that ever again.

On the bright side, however, Togepi's awakening meant he was free to finally get ready for the day. "What do you say?" he asked, "Should we go out and try and fit some training in today or should we try and put what training have done to the test out in the wilderness?"

The Togepi stared blankly at him for a good amount of time, clearly taking its time to comprehend what the trainer had just said, before finally realizing the choice it was given. By the look on Parfait's face, neither of the decisions seemed like anything it wished to do that day. But of course, that certainly was no surprise. If Parfait had his way, he would spend all day every day gorging himself on berries and overpriced gourmet meals at the expense of his trainer, as he always did. Today, though, he wasn't given that option.

Parfait thought about feigning a total inability to control itself in the face of not getting its way and bursting into tears, but it was starting to get the hint based on previous attempts of the same tactic that Sigon wasn't about to fall for any of those fake waterworks. Either Togepi would have do choose one of the two or it would have to find some other way out, which wasn't as easy as it sounded.

Long moments passed before Togepi made its decision: to train a little more rather than attempt to fight wild Pok?mon. It was no more than Sigon expected, being the option that didn't include fighting and risking getting injured. In all honesty, though, it was the one he, himself, preferred. Venturing around the forests of these parts was quite relaxing and enjoyable, even during the few Pok?mon battles he had taken part in, but it was much safer, he felt, to simply stay on campus where the more scary opponents were less apt to wander.

"That's it, then!" he gave Parfait a thumbs up and leaned his left side back toward the bed he was now standing in front of, "We train until the sun is highest in the sky! And if you're good, maybe there will be a little reward at the end." He smiled as he watched Togepi's eyes light up in eagerness. The promise of food always was the best way to get Parfait motivated, Sigon had come to find. It sometimes got a tiny bit costly, but for the sake of his Pok?mon's improvements in skill, he found it was worth it.

Lynne Lockley

Lynne was a recent arrival to Xan Academy, She didn't really know anyone yet. Aside from the most basic pleasantries exchanged with some fellow students,  Lynne had spent most of her time at the academy alone. Sifting through documents about what she would have to do, where she may have to go, and what the course work required. It was a sunny afternoon, and she had decided to take a break from all of the reading to spend some time with her Pokemon. One of the things she noticed is that she may have to travel a lot, which would be great for her photography, and she might see some great outfits along the way too.

Walking into a field, Lynne was wearing a knee length white skirt, of fairly plain design along with a pastel pink blazer, with a plain white shirt underneath. She had a silver hair clip, adorned with a few rubies as her primary accessory. She had a pair of sunglasses on, and her camera was around her neck. A plain black bag was draped over her shoulder. She was carrying a stack of cones, and after travel a decent distance into the field, she began to set them down, with varying amounts of space between each one.

Reaching into her bag, she procured some snacks that she had bought for her Pokemon. She grabbed both of the poke balls that were secured to the waistline of her skirt, and let her two Pokemon out.

"Ruby! Deckard! Come on out!" Lynne smiled as the two Pokemon burst out of the poke balls. Growlithe and Mareep looked up at their trainer. Lynne got on her knees and pet both of her Pokemon, ruffling their fur. "Hey you guys, sorry I haven't been able to spend as much time with you lately, but that will change soon!" She dug the snacks out and fed both of them their respective varieties. Ruby loved meat, while Deckard enjoyed various plants. The two dug into their treats happily and looked up to Lynne once more. "Aroo!" "Meeeh!"

After they finished eating, Lynne stood up and pointed towards the cones she had set up earlier. "Alright Ruby! We're going to do some training today! Deckard, I'll train you next time, but I still want to spend some time with you today!" Ruby looked at her quizzically. "Aroooou?" ]"Oh right! I should show you how the training works! Watch closely, both of you!" Lynne took off, running through the cones down the field, making sure to pass each on a different side than the last. After reaching the other side, she looked back at her two Pokemon down the field. "C'mon Ruby, now it's your turn!"

Ruby charged down the field, expertly going between the cones just as Lynne had shown her. She reached the end and let out a howl. "Arooooou!!!!" Lynne jumped down and hugged Ruby, as Ruby licked her. "Good job Ruby! I knew you could do it!"

Lynne ran back down to the other end of the field to cuddle and play with Deckard a bit, while instructing Ruby to continue running through the cones. She got out her camera and recorded some footage of Ruby running, and took some stills of Deckard  being adorable. After an hour or so Lynne realized how fast time had passed, and had to pack up her supplies and go back to her room to continue figuring out what to do at the academy. "Ruby, Deckard, return! We'll play again soon, I promise!" She then proceeded to gather her things, and returned to her room for what looked like it would be a long night.

Trained Ruby for 1 hour. Can't train two Pokemon due to command being level 2. Played with Deckard and let him stretch his legs a bit. Can't keep him in a Poke ball all the time! Also, Pokemon sounds are hard.
