Digger / Kippy / Star

It was a bright and sunny day near some large buildings that their humans frequented often. The humans who visited that place, or maybe even lived, wore the same matching outer clothes. That said, the Pok?mon still weren't quite sure what the buildings were used for, or why the humans visited. It was probably just some sort of place to meet up, like how Pok?mon occasionally gather. On this particular day the Pok?mon for some reason had been left alone. Not that they were worried, their humans assured them they'd be back.

But the waiting soon became boredom and, so did the Pok?mon as they had their own sorts of conversation with each other. It contained growls and grunts, guttural cries, and strange Pok?mon noises, but as for a translation, it went something like the following.

"Umm umm... so what are you doing?" A particular Vulpix asked as she looked down at a Sandshrew who was hard at work digging some sort of pit. It was already almost two meters deep, and the Sandshrew still kept on digging. She cocked her head to the side as she made short yipping noises at the Sandshrew below. A Pok?mon next to her peered down as well.

"Getting himself dirty, that's what." The Ralts simply stated, peering down, but being careful not to touch the mounds of dirt. "The first time was interesting, but I don't think you'll catch me doing that again."

The Sandshrew below grunted as it pushed dirt up high, aiming straight for the Ralts who had just spoken. The aim was true. There was an annoyed shrieking sound, but the Sandshrew didn't bother looking up.

"Treasure-treasure is down here! My senses never lie. Believe me, believe me." the Sandshrew replied as it continued digging.

"You'll never find-" The Ralts was just about to finish when the Sandshrew interrupted.

"Hah. Treasure treasure. Lots lots. Look look!" Sandshrew said as it fished out what looked to be another one of those CD-like objects it had found earlier. This one was covered in dirt however. But none the less it was 'treasure' indeed.

"You can't just... that doesn't make-" The Ralts was interrupted again, though this time by the Vulpix. Making a joyful yipping sound, it jumped right into the pit with Sandshrew. Most of what she said were incoherent joyful sounds, but Ralts swore she heard it say something about 'treasure'. She peered down again watching the two work.

"Treasure. Treasure." Sandshrew said methodically as it dug, the Vulpix too, after examining the Sandshrew and circling it, also began to dig around, though of course not nearly as efficient as the Sandshrew.

Ralts on the other hand stood from above staring below at the other two. In truth she did want to join them, after all, if she found something it would have been totally grand, but she couldn't just bring herself to dig mindlessly at dirt while the two watched. But the Vulpix looked up, it's features bright as it yipped.

"Come help us!" She prompted. The Sandshrew beside her grunted as well in approval.

"A lady never gets herself dirty." But the Vulpix continued to stare as it continued to yip pleadingly at the Ralts. "W-well, if you're so insistent, and if I must..."  With that, the Ralts cautiously attempted to step down the ledge. She would have fallen if not for the fact that the Vulpix leapt up to soften her landing. Together they both landed down, with the Ralts sitting on the Vulpix. After climbing down, the Ralts poked at the dirt hesitantly as she peered at her two companions. With some nudging from the Vulpix did she finally give in. Soon after that the trio began to dig.

They dug for a good amount of time. Sandshrew leading the way as it dug deeper, Vulpix, who though not as skilled, managed to exuberantly dig alongside the Sandshrew. It was the Ralts who had the most trouble. Her body was simply not made for digging, and though she had telekinetic powers, that too wasn't suitable for the arduous task. Seeing her two companions go at it vigorously only made her feel more uneasy about it, not to mention embarassed at her own lack of ability. She couldn't help but feel the other two were simply better than her, and seeing them go at it with such abandon only made her feel worse. She wanted to, but she simply couldn't.

At this time the pit was much larger, enough space for even a couple of humans to fit snugly. But that bothered the Ralts even more, after all, she felt she didn't really do anything to help.

"..." She had been purposefully avoiding the other two, and it was then that she decided she didn't want to be there anymore. Ambling up the dirt wall clumsily at first, she finally made her way back up to the surface. Covered with dirt, the Ralts sat down choosing not to say anything to the innocent questions from the Vulpix down below. She was useless anyways, surely the other two down there didn't even need her help. In fact, what in the world was she thinking trying to dig anyways? So lost was she in her own thoughts that she barely noticed the Sandshrew climb up and sit beside her. Their humans had came then, well, at the very least both the Sandshrew and Ralts saw them coming their way. The Sandshrew nudged the Ralts then, but she continued to pretend she didn't notice, eventually however the Ralts turned around, expecting to tell the Sandshrew to stop. Instead the other Pok?mon had its paws out, handing the strange CD-like object as if he was offering it to her.

The Ralts didn't know what to say or do, she hesitantly reached out for the so-called 'treasure', but she stopped mid-way.

"... No." She said quietly. The Sandshrew looked on curiously, but continued to present the item to her. The Ralts instead placed her small hands on the Sandshrew's and gently pushed back. "No thank you." The Ralts said correcting herself. Sandshrew made a shuffling noise as its started to slowly drop the item back down, nodding as if understanding. Both the Sandshrew and Ralts stared at each other for a few more moments but it didn't take long for their humans to finally arrive.

The Ralts looked up at her human who was grinning. It was fairly obvious what the three Pok?mon were up to, from all the dirt on their bodies, but that didn't stop Ralts' human as she picked the Ralts up and hugged her tight. Her human didn't say anything, but only rubbed the top of her head.

Meanwhile a resounding laugh echoed clearly.

"HAHAHAHAHA! This hole! The proportions! The piles of magnificent DIRT!" The Sandshrew's trainer picked his Pok?mon twirling it in a make-shift dance up as he continued laughing.

"And what's this?" There was a pause. "Another one? Simply GLORIOUS!"

Ralts shook her head as she let herself be hugged. Next time she'll find her master something herself, and this time with her own power.

Miera Fieren

"All right, everyone!" Miera called her Pok?mon to attention. Having more than just Vesper now, she had to be more organized. They all would have to learn how to follow orders when directed to them as group. "Fall in line!" She indicated a line she had made in the dirt. Vesper did as told right away, but its seemed as though the Shroomish she had named Chanterelle needed some urging. Luckily for the lonely Shroomish, Truffles - the one she had blackmailed into letting her catch - had taken it upon himself to coax her to join. Once they were all in line, she continued.

"The other day was an utter disappointment. Not just one, but two of you fell face first after tripping over your own feet in battle. A ninja absolutely cannot do such a thing on a mission. One misstep and the entire mission could end in failure." Vesper got such speeches fairly often during their training session, so he was used to the rant. "I expect nothing but the best from all of you, especially you, Vesper, since you have been training with me for much longer. So! Today, we shall train your balance, starting with a test of Truffles and Chanterelle." The girl had set up a little gym of sorts related to balance testing and training. She had set out some narrow logs to act as balancing beams, rows of rocks that were obviously for hopping from one to another, and other such stations.

"First, I shall give you a demonstration on how each station works." She told the two Shroomish, since neither of them had trained with her before and might not know how such stations worked. Walking up to one of the logs, she jumped on. She could run across the whole thing with no problem, but she was not showing the Shroomish what they would be doing after years of practice, she was showing them exactly what she had done when her master had first started training her balance. Arms out to either side, Miera moved one foot after the other, explaining her actions as she did so. Reaching the end of that particular log, she hopped down and proceeded to the rocks, which were pretty decently sized. Stepping up onto one, she made it seem like she had not yet caught her balance and held out her arms to demonstrate why she held her arms out before. Once settled, she hopped over to the next rock, keeping her arms out to regain balance should it be lost. Miera continued until the end, and upon doing so turned to look at her trainees. "Now show me what you've got!" She called out to the Shroomish.

Hesitantly, the two Pok?mon picked their stations and, with the help of Vesper and Miera, scrambled up to their starting points. Both seemed hesitant to start, so the girl found herself having to pick one to tell to start. Truffles took the initiative and, having picked what looked like the more difficult of the two stations, eyed the rock in front of him before hopping towards it. The rocks were pretty close to each other, as the girl had taken into account the short legs of the mushroom Pok?mon, so he did not have as much trouble as one might think he would. He did lose his balance a little, but thanks to his body's center of gravity, he was able to recover fairly quickly. Slowly but surely, he made his wobbly way to the end of the line of rocks, losing his balance and nearly falling to the ground on several occasions.

Once Truffles was finished, Miera turned her attention to Chanterelle. The little female did as she was shown, holding out her little arms and attempting one step at a time. She was even more unstable than her companion, wobbling more and more as she continued. She was only halfway when she slipped and slid down the log to the ground. Somewhat shocked, Chanterelle froze before bursting into tears. Truffles quickly scrambled over to her, while Miera could only close her eyes and sigh. The drop had not been a harmful height, so she did understand why the Pok?mon had burst out crying. Perhaps she was afraid Miera would punish her for her failure.

"Crying will not fix things." The girl said, walking over to the two Shroomish and picking the female up. Turning her around, she placed the now tensed up Pok?mon back onto the log. "Practice does. Now try again."

Thus, Miera spend her day training the two Shroomish and Vesper how to better maintain their balance.

"We need to bulk you up somehow, Chomps." Corey stated bluntly, staring down toward his comrade-in-crime. "Not power-wise, I know you have enough of that from the steel drums over there." He pointed to the now-metal-scraps that Chomps had been practicing on for the past half hour. They were once more in their favorite construction site in the evening. It was the only good place in the city to train all-out. Plus, the beams and structures allowed Corey to jump and practice his techniques while Chomps did strength training.

"You need more presence! So people don't underestimate you; so they're scared to even deal with you!" Corey said enthusiastically, before calming a little to think. "But...how?" It was quite the question. Chomps was plenty fast, and even more powerful, but how does one look 'healthier'? How could the little Sandile look tough? His hand was one his chin in deep thought as he paced around his friend, searching for ideas.

'What if you prop yourself up a little? Puff out your chest to make your look bigger." Chomps tilted his head confused, but followed the instruction anyways. After shuffling his feet into place, the Sandile did indeed stand taller; however, either his chin would be raised too high, or he'd level his head and it would look completely uncomfortable and unnatural. Corey almost laughed, but just barely managed to suppress it before waving his hand in dismissal. Chomps gladly sat normally again. "Alright, not that...hmmm, what else could we try...

The next half hour was spent striking various poses to try and influence the Sandile's presence, but in the end no real progress was made, except for working leg muscles that were not normally used. So, in that case, it wasn't a complete waste of time. But it'd have to wait until later, as Corey's last idea was a necessary one: eating. The two of them scrolled off back toward home, stopping in at a local restaurant to get a bite to eat.

Vinny Drechsler

Today had been a long day. Even for Vinny, whose exhaustion after doing something or other left him rather winded. It was perhaps time to give himself and Kimmel some rest and pick up where they left off in the morning. The battlefield that was berry collecting was quite rough terrain, despite what any filthy casual might tell you. Vinny laughed at their inexperience, knowing that one day they would come to terms with the fact that the best berries couldn't possibly be found on the edge of any bushes. No, you had to go to the middle, where few would dare travel for so little. The berries in his pouch proved it! Or at least they probably would prove it if only he could identify them. Probably.

But apparently fate had decided upon a much more important use for his berries. The long day of battling to pick berries had left his perception in a slightly obscured state. Thus, he wasn't exactly paying the greatest attention to the ground below him as he made way back to the academy grounds. That, perhaps, was the biggest mistake he had made in quite some time, for there, sitting directly in his path, was a very large hole, which he promptly dropped into after taking a wrong step. He landed directly on the berries he had spent the entire day picking.

Waves of pain rattled up his tailbone, pulsing with every heartbeat only to add to the pain it caused him, but his tailbone was the last thing in his mind at that moment. He jumped to his feet, heart in his throat, as he searched the hole for the bag of berries he had been holding in his hands before the incident. It was rather dark out as the sun was receding behind the trees, but it was still just light enough for make out an image that would no doubt fill his nightmares for decades to come. It was his berries, splattered quite spectacularly all over the bottom of the hole, just where his rump had landed. If it weren't for the berries, indeed he might have broken his tailbone altogether, but to him this was the opposite of a fair trade.

"Neeeeeiiiiiiinnnnn!!" he yelled in the most troubled voice he could muster, "Not ze berries! Not mein beautiful berries!" His eyes welled up with tears and he slammed his fist against the ground. His luck seemed to have taken a highly unfortunate turn that night. Today he had experienced the worst of tragedies. He would have trouble sleeping soundly for many nights after tonight.

There he sat, sobbing, for what could have been over an hour, before at last he began to simmer down. The ground beneath him was now perhaps more wet with tears than berry juice. He had taken that time to reflect on his all the mistakes he had made in his life, stretching all the way back to the day he almost caught his first Magikarp only to have it escape from his last Pok? Ball and make a brilliant getaway. Although now that he thought of it, whether or not that was truly a mistake was up for interpretation. After all, he may not have met Kimmel if it weren't for that moment. How many of his mistakes had turned out for the better, he wondered.

It was in that moment that he hatched an idea so brilliant, so unbelievably fantastic, that all his despair instantly melt away. He stood up, wiping his tears, balling his hands into a fists, and growing to bear quite the confident smile before beginning to climb out of the hole. This time he would ensure his fall would not be in vain. This time he knew how to make the situation as great as it could possibly be. Or die trying!

As he reached the top of the hole and pulled himself out, he quickly ran to the nearest tree, searching underneath it for falling branches and gathering as many as he could hold before moving as quickly as he could back to the gaping hole with dubious origins. Carefully, he laid the stick across the opening in a crosshatch fashion, interlocking them where he could, but much more closely ensuring that they were strong enough hold their own, but weak enough to break under pressure. Once he finished, he made way back to the tree and gathered up a great big arm-full of leaves, returning to the hole to cover it up as inconspicuously as he possibly could with them. He spread them out evenly, flattening them as need, until the branches and the hole were completely obscured. That left only one thing to do: cover it up with dirt. It wasn't the easiest part of the task, for sure, but it certainly wasn't difficult. It took several minutes, but finally he covered up the hole almost as if nothing had been there in the first place.

Grinning ear-to-ear, he retreated from the area. Everything he had done was done so perfectly, even down to the loss of his beloved berries. Perhaps this was the most amazing plan he had ever come up with, and it was also nearly fool-proof! The scent of the berries wafting through the hole would attract Pok?mon far and wide ? possibly even a Magikarp or two if he was lucky ? and the depth of the hole ensure that they had little to no chance of escape once they broke through the covering and fell inside. With any luck, Kimmel would have a new playmate to do stuff with before the night was over!

By Kimmel's crown, this was the most brilliant plan ever!

Indigo River

"Hey, Esti, how did we do with nectar gathering today?" The tall lanky man asked his little bee as they headed back towards their camp. Esti made a happy sound, as if to say they had done pretty well. "That's far out, man! Good job!" He had spent most of his morning with the Combee, looking for useful plant life in the forest. Indigo had been looking for things such as apricorns and edible mushrooms whilst his Combee was supposed to be gathering nectar to make honey. He needed the honey to use with his cooking. Especially when it came to energy powders and other repulsive health items for the Pokemon. While he could handle the bitter tastes, his Pok?mon had more sensitive taste buds and usually did not consume unsweetened natural medicines. Even though Esti usually did not like sweet things, especially berries, she would eat things that contained the honey she made for the team.

When they got back to camp, it was sometime in the afternoon. Indigo let Esti rest while he made use of what light was left to work on some Apricorn balls. He would need some if he were to befriend some Pok?mon that were willing to join his family, and he definitely wanted to be prepared in the event that he ever ran into a Tropius...

Later that evening, Indigo called out Chandni, using her glow to help provide enough light for him to combine some honey he had harvested on a previous day with some of the energy powders he had to make the medical drink he liked to call a healing tea. They did not need it at the moment, and he hoped he would not need it any time in the near future, but he liked to be prepared. Sometimes, Pok?mon he befriended required a battle to test and make sure that he and his current companions were worthy to leave their friends and family for. That was understandable. Such things were a big decision, especially if you were not sure that you would be able to survive in the new life course as well as your current one. It was a life-changing experience. Indigo knew the feeling.

Before ending the day, and the "training" he did with his Pok?mon, Indigo harvested whatever Honey Esti had created that day.
