Dreams of Paradise / CH1: Falling in the Deep End

《Chapter 1: Falling in the Deep End》

Location - Somewhere out in the Ozmit Sea
Time - 6 AM

It had been six weeks since your father died, and now finally, you were on the road to getting revenge against his killers, to put your name in the history books where it belonged. It was the only parting gift you could think of to give to your father. However, you had to actually survive the journey if you hoped to deliver, and it seemed like the gods had other ideas, as the ocean tossed your ship around like a child's toy in the bath.

You had never experienced the Ozmit Sea this bad before, and you could hear the wood of the ship actively screaming under the protest as it crashed through wave after wave of water.

If it had been your choice you wouldn't have chosen this ship or this crew, but it hadn't been your choice. As a whole, the Stalwart, for all the strength the name implied, would have been considered out of date for a cargo vessel over a decade ago, and it showed, but it did have the pro of being paid for by someone else. Your father never had much money to his name, and he wasn't one for saving it, choosing instead to often use anything he had to take care of you or fund his next expedition. What little you both did have saved was quickly spent over the last six weeks for his funeral rites and debts that you didn't realize he had until they started calling in droves.

After selling the house and anything you could to the vultures, you had no choice but to turn to the association for help, and every one of his usual backers had been nowhere to be found. Sure they had met with you, and gave you the appropriate condolences, but they had refused to open up their coffers to help. Their gold was all tied up in other ventures they said, but you knew what that meant, and who was tying their hands. Even after your father's death and stealing half of your father's legacy they were still playing dirty.

But they didn't tie up everyone, or it was better to say there were some people they actively ignored.

So you had managed to make a deal with one Veritas Herlock, a young half-elf noble just barely old enough to take these kinds of meetings, but not yet old enough to drink. He wanted to impress upon his elven father that he could be trusted with the business, capable of succeeding at risks. You had planned on taking his money for the sake of the adventure, even dealing with him cutting corners as long as it got you to your dream. You didn't realize it would be a package deal, both him and his bodyguard, and that package deal came with a lot of extra conversation.

---

"I never knew weather could be this bad,"
Veritas nervously chuckled trying to lighten the mood as he searched for a distraction other than the storm. He and his half-orc guard have been sticking to you like glue for the entire trip so far, and this weather means that you have had even less personal space. "But, I'm sure you've been on even more crazy adventures than this, right, Armand?"

Amelia had gotten slightly more settled in the daily life of the castle, but still struggling with her own emotions. In an attempt to make herself feel a bit better she began to write letters to the people around her. Soon enough, she had a full stack of thank you notes that she had been using as stress relief just piling up in the corner. It seemed a waste to throw them away or let them gather dust. So she decided to be proactive and use this as a testing ground for one of her new powers.

With Nyx's help, she enchanted each letter so that only their recipient could read them and had them stealthy delivered all around town. Hoping that her letters would give everyone a little bit of the strength she was getting from them.

[info]The following is a curated selection of those letters.[/info]

Mendernich - Bath
Day 17 - Noon

Nyx laid at the edge of the bath for a moment as he watched his human resting on the smooth tiles attempting to catch her breath from the aftermath of whatever ritual she had been performing. He had immediately recognized the face she used when she was deep in focus, and the way that her lips sometimes moved made him realize she must be using that power of hers. However, as soon as she made contact with whoever or whatever was on the other side all Nyx's hair stood on end as if he had been struck by lightning. The overwhelming nature of whatever was on the other end seemed to almost fill the room. Yet, from what he could see no one else was able to feel it like he was. Perhaps it had something to do with the connection that Amelia and he shared.

However, faced with such a presence he felt completely powerless. He didn't even know who to bare his fangs at, let alone if he could win, but that didn't matter if they threatened Amelia he would eat out their throat regardless. At least for the time being she seemed to be calm, and while he didn't know all the details he could sense her determination. So he simply set up sentry while he dried himself from the pool. He watched her pretending to be enjoying the warmth of the room while he studied her for any new developments pretending not to notice or care as to not tip her hand to the others. The last thing she needed when on the hunt like this was a bunch of people crowding her out of concern.

So he sat and waited, and continued to be aloof throughout the entire affair.  Including when he moved to spy over her shoulder the thing she was writing by using the new abilities that came to him as if second nature. He felt like a bowl filling with water and yet when it almost overflowed it just grew deeper to hold more. He knew he was changing new memories and more made themselves known through the haze of his mind,  as his instincts seemed to grow sharper with each passing day. Though it came so naturally that if it hadn't been pointed out he probably would not have noticed.

He did however notices the changes in Amelia his human, beyond the obvious development of her powers. There were qualities like her grace and composure in a situation that went above and beyond the limits she had shown in the past. Even if his memories were blurring there were scenes from his past that would be hard to forget. Nights where she would lock herself in her room reading books as she attempted to escape the normal ups and downs of teenage life. The carefree girl who had so little to worry about outside of school and the daily traps of living in society as a human. Normally when things got too tough for her to handle she either spent her time in the dojo. He could tell that things were beginning to overwhelm her based on how her eyes scanned almost everyone around them or how she bit her lip to hold back her thoughts. She had managed to find a number of people who were willing to ease her burden, and even if it sturred new emotions inside Nyx when she held others, she did seem to need their help.

But as Amelia laid back and the otherworldly presence left the room, he could tell there was another episode coming. Her body language oozed exhaustion and as she took a moment to wipe her nose Nyx smelled something more than the blood that made a small trail down the side of her face.

He could smell her fear.

New feelings welled up inside of him in severity that he had never felt before, a desire to protect her and fight off any threat that would dare try to harm her, his human, his territory, and his authority. Yet, he knew that voicing any of that desire, and the more complex emotions that were the true root of his feelings that he had yet to even understand he had yet was impossible. Amelia was passionate if anything else and anyone trying to shelter her from the world too much would find that she would only work harder to fight her way to freedom. She was like a bird who loved to fly and would rather die than have her wings clipped. He had to respect that fighting spirit, and he didn't realize that his own attitude and personality were in part due to her care.

So it would have appeared that all Nyx could do was watch her from his napping spot, keenly through half-closed eyes, as she did her best to stand on shaking feet. However, there were somethings that he could get away with because of his status he reasoned that no one else could. So as she went to go get changed and prepare herself for whatever evening plans she had for the both of them, he decided to make his move.

Making a motion to his new companions to stay put for the time being as he slinked his way to a route of railings and ledges around the castle's exterior towards a window of the changing room that he had found. Using flash step it was a simple matter to get into position with little trouble, a moving shadow in an otherwise busy environment. Even if this smaller form was somehow feeling slightly uncomfortable, like a piece of clothing a half size too small the muscles that had begun to show themselves in earnest over the last few hours under his fur still carried him where he wanted.

He never looked into the room, even though she regularly forgot that he was in the room when she changed at night regardless. He just needed to know that she was safe, and moments like this where she thought she was alone were the only times she really let done her defenses. She would wait till the burden became so much that she exploded but any animal understood the bad effects of stress. So just in case, she fell apart in these quiet moments he would keep a quiet sentry hidden and alter, ready to take note if something happened. The blood alone was a problem, though she had tried to hide it.  He couldn't smell any more blood but he would have to find an excuse later to check himself that she wasn't needlessly hiding something. Sure enough, his instincts were on the mark. The exhaustion overwhelmed her and she slumped against the wall for a moment gathering herself alone from the world.

He felt a swelling of rage inside himself as all he could do was to be a shadow present but out of sight for her at this moment. He needed to get stronger, he was the reason they were in this mess and his pride meant that he was responsible for the both of them, and yet he did not enough power to save her from this pain. A fire in him was lit when he realized how weak he was and yet had glimpses of memories of what he could become if he simply pushed himself. To Nyx's expanding mind he did not understand how insane it was to think that if he just pushed harder he could somehow exceed his natural limits.

And yet the fact remained he had been blessed by divine powers. Logic no longer fully applied to either himself or Amelia.

By the time Amelia had gathered herself Nyx had left the window ledge to return to the bath with Mati and the animals none the wiser. She returned then to fetch him a moment later as the pair were meant to head to the home of the man in the black robes to do some kind of work, satisfied that no one was aware of his various concerns.

Location- Guild Hall
Day 17

As Nyx made his way through the city looking for a gift for Amelia he made his way to the Guildhall mostly out of habit. The bar that served to greet adventures had become a kind of second home of sorts as he spent time with the Umbral Hunters. As he slinked his way past the feet of one of the many adventurers who went to go have a drink he noticed that the tavern was unusually loud for the day. He could smell the excitement in the air as he made his way on top of one of the tables. He could see that a crowd of adventurers was gathered around a table excitedly where a man in a hare mask was peddling his wares.

"Welcome Welcome adventurers, it is dangerous to go alone in this world without a party in this world. The only problem is when making a party of other adventurers is splitting the loot." [/color]Said a man wearing a mask with floppy ears like a rabbit and a fancy three-piece suit. Only his smile and the mischievous glint was visible behind the mask and yet his aura was palpable. He seemed to have all these rough and tumble people wrapped around his every word.

"That is where the Traveling Emporium of the Rabbit Prince has you covered, my friends! You will have no need for other companions when you have a Monster companion! That's right folks," the man continued with a flourish, "Today I have brought to your fair city for a fair price a chance to have your very own monster egg!" He said as the crowd's attention was drawn to a display stand of colorfully patterned eggs sitting on the table.

The crowd murmured loudly as the Rabbit Prince continued his sales pitch, "Now today I am offering monster eggs of various rarities from common, uncommon, rare and mythic rarity! But be aware of a few special prizes or duds in the mix. What's more, I am offering them today for one standard price," At this the crowd nearly went into a frenzy asking all sorts of questions as they rushed to get the prince's attention.

"Hold it, everyone-"
He said shouting over the crowd as he basked in the sheer amount of emotion. It took a few minutes for them to calm.

"I have only a limited stock and therefore, I have devised a blind box lottery as a means of identifying what egg each customer will receive. So all those willing to test their luck today may form a line and pull a number from inside this bag I have. May you all have good fortune!"

---

The crowd around this Rabbit Prince quickly formed a line pushing each other slightly as they jockeyed for position. Nyx could not help but chuckle as he watched their antics. "And what about you my feline friend? Surely you have someone that would like a unique gift," Said the rabbit prince having locked eyes directly on Nyx. The piercing blue eyes from behind that rabbit mask seemed in that moment to look through him to his soul in that moment. It was as if they were the only two in the entire tavern and his growing smile sent chills down Nyx spine.

"Given your unique nature I'll even let you jump to the head of the line," the rabbit prince said, as Nyx moved from his perch onto the table directly next to the masked man not even realizing that he had moved until a few minutes after. Something about this man was strangely magnetic and while he could feel the energy in the air the brightly patterned eggs did seem like a unique gift. Besides even if it did turn out to be a dud Amelia would smile if only for the fact that he had a good story to tell.

"Sure I'll take you up on your offer, cats always have the best luck," he said his voice half muffled as he tried to grab one of the slips of paper with his teeth

Day 17

Nyx woke up from the bed that he and Amelia shared just as the last of her body warmth had left the nest of sheets. She had already left to go about her day for at least an hour or two and he was finally coming around. Fighting as he had these last few weeks had started to change the sleeping habits of the once would be pet turned guardian. He had grown to like his new found life in this world and the thrills and adventure at his beck and call. He could feel himself changing and growing beside his woman as each day passed. However, things didn't seem to be all catnip and cream for Amelia, especially since she realized that she was the one wearing the collar.

Making new furends seemed to help somewhat, but he knew her better than anyone here, and he could smell and see the fear she kept hidden from the rest of the world. It was a distinct pawsiblity that she would work herself to death if she wasn't careful. She always tried her best to always land on her feet, but she only had spent one of her lives, Nyx refused to risk another. If he could just get to see that Cheshire smile again he knew they would be feline better. Not that he would ever admit that seeing her upset put his tail end.

So he had a plan for this morning, to surprise her and really whisker off her feet. To see his human smile before that white haired punk got any closer to her. Not that he even cared what that kitten tried to do. Even if Nyx favored the trash can as much as the tuna can, he knew he could win any cat fight.

He was after all, the leader of the pack and he knew how to prove his pedigree. Then once Amelia was smiling again, they would show them all just how furmidable they both were and handle this demon catastrophe. So he set about his morning to find the purfect thing that would allow him to be a scratch above the rest and get his girl to smile. However, the old trick of a caught bird or mouse didn't seem right. His new found clawity had made him realize just what her opinion was on hurting things weaker than him. Betting up Kurt might make her laugh he did look pretty pawthetic getting between down last time. But that came back down to the whole weaker than him thing.

Finding something that would make her smile would be meowdur. He had litterally have to go on the hunt for something new, unique something ideally her and not something tabby or half assed.

With food on his mind as he tried his best to think about what to do for Amelia he found his way to the kitchen.  Pacing as he thought about what was in his pawer to do for her. What he did not notice was the cook carrying the large bag of flour that then partially spilled over him making him as white as a ghost. If he wanted the perfect date he realized he would have to look outside of the litter box and go into town. Trailing white prints for a while he would have a real tail to tell by the time his day was through. Perhaps she would like a dead bird after all, because if he wasn't careful this black cat might just jnyx himself. After all, this cat was willing to even stake his pride on this one girl.

[info]comedy can sometimes be hard so I figured in honor of bad joke day I would stick to puns can you count them all?[/info]

Location - Warden's Office
Day 5 - Afternoon

A few days after the fight with the frogs, Selphie sent word to Kerrick and Virgil to meet at the warden's office to discuss the route they were planning to take towards Orario with Thalia. Using the Warden's office which is connected to the single jail cell is a bit odd given the imagery. That being said, as the two men enter the office, at the appointed time, Selphie is in the office already scanning over a map to the region. On the Garron's desk sits the drop crystal from the battle, which sparkles in the sun from the shuttered windows. When she saw the two of them enter she looks up from her work and smiles.

"I'm glad you two could make it,"
Nodding towards the door before continuing, "Garron already gave me the go-ahead to use his office as long as we need, so close the door and then we can go over the plan."

However, as both men look around, Thalia and none of the others in the escort team are anywhere to be seen.

Location - Mendritch Castle Courtyard
Day - 17 Early Morning

The sounds of a sword whistling through the air can be heard ringing out through the empty courtyard of the castle. The sky was still slightly pink from the sunrise as Kurt used his own shadow as a sparring partner. The courtyard had been his own arena for this kind of image training for years now, ever since he was old enough to hold a stick and a nuisance enough to require an instructor. This kind of image training was perfect for a young boy with too much energy and not enough friends or rivals his own size. The goal was to build his ability to focus, study the world around him, then use it as practice to better himself.

Kurt had gotten so good at the training that over the years his opponents had become more solid things taking fuel from his subconscious. Problems he had no idea how to solve were laid out before him like dragons to slay from the stories, abstract problems became ordered in his mind allowing him to approach things clearly. He needed clarity more and more these past few weeks as a new kind of challenger arose from his mind. An opponent not to be bested or stopped but to be protected. Amelia, a girl from another world, who he could not make heads or tails of no matter how hard he tried. In the realm of his shadow he saw others clear as day and yet she refused to be seen, she forever wore a mist like cloak of contradictions.

His shadow took the form of that girl, standing before him with no armor and few weapons and yet her aura was palpable. She struck out at him with feral blows using everything at her disposal, her intellect, her strength, her charisma she focused everything on offense. Defense was not even in her vocabulary, the concept that something could be 'too dangerous' was something she simply did not comprehend, and so neither did Kurt's shadow. He was almost immediately placed on the back foot and he was bewildered by her near-ceaseless attacks. She just made no logical sense.

Amelia was the summoned Hero, meant to save his homeland like the legendary founder of the royal family, and yet she was more fragile than glass. The simple act of summoning her alone almost lead to her death save for a miracle. She stood before the king, his father, defiant to the last and even went so far as to attack Kurt in the process. He felt however how she shook like a leaf the whole time first hand. She refused to back down from her beliefs putting her life on the line more than once, sprinting headlong from one dancer to another, when she showed limited power and no means of self-defense. She even went so far as to kiss her jailer a man who would drag her away in the name of repaying a debt.

How was he supposed to protect someone who is their own worst enemy? Someone strong, yet fragile, someone who refused to back down from their beliefs yet shameless in their execution, someone with an entirely alien view of this world and yet expected to run a kingdom on the edge of destruction. Every aspect of her was at odds with itself and yet she made the chaos seem almost elegant. Her smile was warm and intelligent and it always felt like she saw right through him. Her touch alone caused his body to run with energy as his hair stood on end. And that was before she pumped her magic energy directly into him. His cheeks grew hot as memories from the bath flooded to the forefront of his mind.

He form broke, only for a moment, but his shadow gave no space to maneuver, as it struck at every possible opening. Kurt knew he had to fall back on the fundamentals if he didn't want to lose. So that's what he did both with his sword forms and his thoughts. If Amelia was to complicated for him to handle right now then just take what he knew to be true and look at those things that threatened her. His shadow shifted to take the form of duke Hallam. This man would take Amelia away to the front lines of the war, and based off of what he heard from the meeting, he knew that she would follow him. One, because it was the most dangerous action she could take, and two it protected the common folk from both sides from fighting. Her words about tossing her own pride away without hesitation rang in his ears.

So the problem was simple, he had to find a way to protect her that didn't start any additional conflict. That took killing the duke off the table, along with locking her away until this war was over. She would want to experience Felencorp first hand no doubt to demand an audience to lecture their leaders. That being the case he should try to find a reason that all parties, her included, would agree to so he could follow along. That and get stronger than he was now to actually protect her. Though, if he could not figure out the first problem then the second problem didn't matter. If only there was some way to link them together by some irrefutable means of sorcery that would connect them.

Or at least a means to turn himself into an unassuming beast. He did not like to admit that but of envy for the closeness Amelia had for Nyx where he could not reach. Though he knew she would not accept it he daydreamed of having a relationship like the founders even when he was a child. Two people from different worlds bonded together to make a home.

That was when an idea struck him, perhaps the family records and histories from the founding of the kingdom might provide hints to a means of forging a tether between them. Someway that he could protect her and possibly grow stronger in the process.

Finally slaying his shadow for the morning he made a promise to himself to go to the library and study the Royal archive for mention of anything even remotely close to what he needed.

Slightly Off the Western Road to Thalia Village
Day 8 - Early Afternoon

Selphie points the group to the west, having heard of some recent freak rainstorm that made the route more mud the road. As a result, a number of the wilder side roads had to be used for the time being, which left people open to being attacked. In particular, after the rain stopped almost as suddenly as it began there have been rumors of sights of strange creatures being seen in those woods.

It will take them a few days to clear out the worst of the damages done to the main road. In the meantime, having someone investigate these rumors is a priority one for anyone able-bodied who were not able to help with the mess.

As a result, the patrol group slowly makes it's way slowly through a forest still waterlogged from the rain as the cart slowly plods through the leaves and underbrush. The air is dense with humidity that makes everyone's clothes stick to their bodies like a second skin as mist swirls below them.

[info]As the cart continues down this trail everyone roll a perception check.[/info]

Virgil's House
Day 7- Early Evening

As Virgil returns home, beaten and bruised, from a long day of fighting, still covered in the dried remnants of other people's blood. He finds a large oddly shaped package on his bed silently waiting for him, in anticipation of his arrival, with a small white note on top. It is clear whoever attempted the wrapping job had no idea what they were doing as they used far to much of the brown paper resulting in a kind of large round snowball.

As Virgil approaches, he can see his name written on the card in a script both large and flowery, which is easy to identify as Thalia's.

Location -Troupe's Choice
Day 1- After the Show

The Troupe's Choice was alive with the complex discordant music that was a mixture of conversation and laughter of so many people that it was impossible to pick out any one voice. The main bar room was packed tighter than it had been for months after Thalia's announcement simply hours earlier. Everyone was too excited to sleep, the townsfolk were simply trying to grasp what this kind of earth-shattering change would mean for their daily lives. At the same time those outsiders who had been present for the performance, traveling adventurers, merchants and the like, were trying their best to sell anything and everything they had on hand to the townsfolk that might be even remotely tied to the life in the big city. They saw the townsfolk of this small country town as easy marks for a life they were unprepared for.

For Taiga, the local muscle for the tavern outside the occasional drunk shouting match all he could do was wait and watch for one of these idiots to slip up. The town needed the favor of the merchants after all, and while the actual specifics were not his forte he understood that if he tried to stop every bad deal that happened then they would just end up souring the pot. Now if one of them got pushy then that would be a different matter, but for now, all he could do was watch the room from his usual spot at the end of the bar and stew in his own thoughts as he maintained vigilance. His own excitement aside could everyone handle the sudden shift? A majority of the village had joined the famila and only a handful of hose were actual fighters or were used to dealing with a variety of new people on a regular basis. To call almost everyone here except a select few country bumpkins would not be a stretch.

He was going to have a lot more responsibility for people once they got to the city, adding that to his list of goals his own mental accounting was getting rather complex. But the knot in the pit in his stomach refused to let him back down. So he watched with furrowed brows as the townsfolk tried and failed to handle the advances of the power-hungry merchant. He was glad at that moment that his size and delinquent appearance allowed him to brush away any merchants that tried to approach him leaving the sets of either side of him empty.

Day 13 - Evening

[info]Read Chapter 2: Festival's Start first.[/info]

"Alright Everyone, the game is really simple!" Called a female human Lorelai. Her stall was a large box filled with water and jumping rainbow-colored fish.  Several crows sat on top of the sign waiting for a chance at a possible meal.

"The goal of this game is to catch more fish then any of the other people participating. There is however a catch, all participants must use a paper net, and only that one net.  With each catch, the net will weaken and make catching more fish increasingly difficult. When the net breaks your game is over and any fish you caught is thrown back. Only people with unbroken nets are eligible for the prizes."

[info]The rules
The goal is to make sleight of hand checks or profession fishing that meet or exceeding increasingly difficulty and calling it quits just before your limit. This is a game of chicken just as much as luck. Players are allowed to roll their checks in one go or one at a time in rounds as they please.

The Dc to catch a fish starts at 5 and goes up by 5 after every successful catch

"Glad you could make it,"
Said Garron the large half-dwarf as he slammed down another five-foot cubed hay bale in a stack. You can see several of these stacks all around the open space that had been cordoned off for the maze. At the center of it all was a large pile of mechanics and scrap that could be used for the building of the various hazards. Some may think that the local warden was opening up a junkyard as a side business if they did not know about his plans for a hay dungeon.

"I think this should be enough for all the walls,"
he said stepping back to admire his handwork. "I think I have all the basics, but I'm glad to have more heads and hands designing and building the challenges. We want to see what these kids can do!"

Morning Day 2
Troupe's Choice Inn

Taiga struggled to sleep the night after Thalia's announcement that the Familia would be heading to Orario. His mind was too full of dreams and excitement to stop long enough to let him find rest, so after a handful of hours of pretending, he finally decided to get up and spend his energy being useful. Without taking the time to put on a shirt he moved out of the small room that Tella let him have as payment for working as a bouncer and as the occasional actor. Tiptoeing on the balls of his feet, as to not wake of the other guests, he made his way downstairs jumping over the last bum step that always squeaked when too much weight was put on it.

He landed with a soft but heavy thud as his bare feet hit the wood floor of the main dining room. Weaving through the tables and the miniature stage he made his way behind the bar and into the kitchen. He pulled down a mug from a shelf on the wall and took a moment to fill it with water from the nearby bucket. From there it would be a short walk out the back door to begin his daily exercises.

He stood by the axe where they chopped wood for the oven and began going through the motions his teacher had taught him. Maintaining his breathing he moved his body, feeling the energy, tensing and thrusting each muscle as he went through a series of routines meant to strengthen his body and calm his mind. Feeling the cool breeze of the autumn morning helping with the heat from the building exertion.

Familia Registry (Characters) / Siegfried "Sieg" Wagner
September 12, 2019, 11:34:37 AM

Height: 5' 9" ~ Weight: 160 lbs ~ Age: 15 ~ Race: Human

"<QUOTE HERE>"

Personal Information

Appearance
Sieg is a reedy teenager at the age where time plus his choices would define his build for the remainder of his future. At the cusp of a major growth spurt he is in the throes of puberty and all that entails. He is a bundle of contradictions, as he tries to find himself and who he wants to become. He is beginning to work hard to build muscle and tone for the sake of his dream of an adventurer and yet wears his hair longer then he should for someone unfamiliar with battle. His hands are soft and his nails often stained from the ink of books that his father has him often studying. He can often be found in a mixture of styles of clothing mixing and matching what is more acceptable for the mayor's sun and some more rebellious attire as he tries to find himself.

Personality
Sieg feels like a big fish in a small pound. While he respects his father and has a deep ingrained love of his homeland he cannot help but crave his own path his own story. He feels drawn to something greater that he can take his talents to the big city and try to make a name for himself. As a result, despite his kind hearted nature he is getting more and more rebellious as his father tries to chain him to home.

Biography
Siegfried, had always been a bit of a miracle. He was born to the Wagner family, when the mayor's wife had thought she could not bare children, and was born in one of the worst blizzards the village had seen in a lifetime. He survived an illness as a child that would claim the life of his mother before he even had a chance to know her. All of this made his father protect him with the ferocity of a wounded dragon hoarding treasure. He was given the best toys, the best clothes, the best teachers all for the sake of his future. His father drowned him in studies from a young age rarely letting him out of the house unsupervised unless he had a nanny or friend with him.

If it was not for the goddess Thalia and her force of will to ignore all norms or personal boundaries he would have been little more than a bird in a cage. With all the trouble she caused she was often a 'guest' in his father's home as the rest of the familia did their best to clean up the damages she left in her wake. She was like a ray of sunshine creeping through his bars, she told him stories of the outside world, comedies about the outside world, tails of heroes who struck their own path, as well as stories of the various villagers. The stories about the people in the town were some of his favorites because his father often was complaining about different villagers, and the goddess had a completely different outlook on their daily lives. It was those stories, that gave him context to his own existence. By the time he was ten he realized how sheltered he really was and how empty he felt because of it. Sure he was smart, and he wanted to make his father happy, but something inside knew that he needed more.

He snuck out of the house that night for the first time in his life making it as far as the local tavern before his stamina got the better of him. The smell of food drew him in closer and he was astounded by what he saw. There were more people in this one room than he had seen in his lifetime, on top of that the laughter, the food, the sounds of the performance. From that point on he craved going into the outside world. To see the colors he had seen that night once again, and to experience more of what life has to offer.

After that night he began to forgo any of his father's rules sneaking out and meeting with people he would have otherwise been barred from seeing. He sought out the most intimidating person, close to his own age, that he could find. That is how he met Taiga who he used as a bit of a role model on how to rebel. He began pushing back against his father's rules even going out with the others to fight goblins. With each step forward he craves even more adventure to meet new people and grow.

Thalia Village
Day 2 - During the Planning Meeting

"I think it would be fun for the kids if we put together a Hay Maze Dungeon, And it would be a good way for some of the Family to get some good practice in before leaving. Though, I'm not the best at designing these sorts of things and will need help setting it up," says Garron Riennes, the massive half-dwarf, who works as the town's local law enforcement. He has taught a number of the younger familia who were going astray and generally keeps the goddess from going insane and destroying the town.

[spoiler=OODM]Possible Days: Day 3 - 13

Post here if interested in this, and I'll spawn a thread. Feel free to do initial knowledge checks on this thread as well. I'll promote this to the actual play thread once there's interest shown.

Helping Garron Riennes would take several days gathering materials, designing the maze, and making traps. This would involve things like knowledge engineering and craft checks.

Creative use of skills allowed and the more creatively described a trap or area of the maze minor bonus exp may be rewarded. One aspect of the maze takes a full day,  be it design or traps a total of ten successes of a DC 20 check must be made to complete the maze. Working together is allowed on one roll or rolling separately. If completed quickly or with extra flare an additional reward maybe awarded.

Thalia Village
Day 2 - During the Planning Meeting

"I know of a good lake nearby where we can get a good haul of fish for the party. I heard a rumor from some adventurers that there is a really big and dangerous fish in that lake. Maybe we can try to catch the thing and make a big spectacle of cooking it for the village?" Piped up Sieg, the young son of the mayor, who only joined the famila within the last few months. He is a bit of a troublemaker and is always looking for an excuse to go out in the wilds with the others. But he has a good heart and a better head on his shoulders so his information could be trusted.

[spoiler=OODM]Possible Days: Day 3 - 13

Post here if interested in this, and I'll spawn a thread. Feel free to do initial knowledge checks on this thread as well. I'll promote this to the actual play thread once there's interest shown.

Helping Sieg Waver would be spending a day going out to the wilds and spending a day out by the lake fishing and gathering other materials. Sieg will bring basic material but additional personal prep like bait or other unique ways to fish will help things greatly. The town has agreed to pay money for the total amount of fish collected with a special prize for anything really special. Catching fish and foraging will also get a small amount of exp.

[info]Due to the time restraints Amelia did not get a chance to proofread what Mati wrote as she spoke over the mental link.[/info]

Dear Chance V. Royal,

Hi, if you are receiving this letter than I guess you know who it is from. I'm the hero of Bursteg to your south. You can call me Iris, it's not my real name, but it works for now. Man, this is a weird letter. I don't know anything about you, where you came from, what you've seen, how long you've been away from your home, or even if this place has the same sense of time as our home.

If you are from Earth, I'm a girl from America from the year 2019 A.D. If you aren't from earth. It's a place very different place from here that has no magic but has relied on technology instead.

Regardless of where you are from, you are another stranger in a strange land like me. I hope the two of us can become friends and help each other if we ever need it. If it is alright with you I would like the two of us to become pen pals. Share information and insights with one another as well as commiserate with one another.

How was it for you trying to acclimate to this new world and the role that was thrust in your lap?

I'm doing okay, honestly, I think I'm still a bit in shock about the whole thing. I still feel like there is a half chance that I might wake up back home as if this was a dream. I keep thinking about my family a lot, in particular, my little brother.

Have you had to fight a demon? I heard you are on the front line and they are difficult to envision for me.

How have you handled all the different people who need things from you? I'm doing my best to juggle everything at once and so far I'm doing okay but I worry about dropping something?

Is there anything you really miss from home? I was able to bring a few things with me. If I have anything you want I would be happy to send somethings if I have it.

Anything you know about this world or the demons would be more than enough for me. I hope this letter reaches you in good health.

From the hero of Bursteg,
Iris

Familia Registry (Characters) / Taiga "Tai" Reinwald
September 01, 2019, 02:54:13 PM

Height: 6' 6" ~ Weight: 240 lbs ~ Age: 20 ~ Race: Weretiger

"Well, wasn't this a fated encounter?"

Personal Information

Appearance
Taiga is a man head and shoulders above others both literally and figuratively, who smiles warmly at the world. He is often the tallest person walking the streets of anywhere he goes, and cuts quite an intimidating figure with layers of muscle that would put most statues to shame.   With hands large enough to wrap around the skull of a grown man most people give him a wide berth. As a result of his size, and because growing up he could almost never find any clothes that fit, Taiga has taken to often going with as few clothes as necessary, This includes things like rarely wearing a shirt or even at times shoes when out in public leaving his body on full display.   He wears his hair often on the longer side letting it spill past his shoulders, framing his golden eyes with what messy locks. Though he is known to trim his hair short when the weather is warm.

Personality
Taiga is often seen by others as gregarious and the life of the party learning to hide a lifetime of getting picked on as a child due to his size behind a large smile. Often being singled out or challenged by others has also meant that despite a relatively healthy body image. He was forced to become a rebellious youth in many ways as a means of survival learning things like how to take a punch very early despite his kindhearted nature.

As a result, Taiga grew wary of others and has needed outsiders approval often making poor decisions to prove he had worth. These experiences over the years have honed his social perceptions and street smarts to more than makeup for what he lakes in terms of a real education. His own troubled and often rebellious youth has caused him to become very protective of others and hardened his sense of justice to a hard edge.

In a fight, his otherwise laid back persona falls away to show the true fires of passion that burns beneath. Either due to his race or his upbringing, he loves a good challenge and a fair fight. That being said, if backed into a corner, or if he feels that his opponent is not playing by the rules he has no issue fighting dirty. He constantly seeks self-improvement, to push his limits further, and to make a name for himself and his family. As a result, he may be likely to stick his nose where it does not belong and head into trouble fists first. While some may see another giant brute to hot-headed for actual plans they miss the true hunter that is Taiga Reinwald.

Biography

- General IC Info-
Taiga Reinwald (weretiger, level 1, monk 1)

A weretiger boy, older than you by 3 years, that you grew up with at the New Beginnings Orphanage. You know him to get into fights often, and there may have been occasions in the past where the two of you had butt heads. Unlike you, he was never truly adopted, but had been taken in by the local tavern and inn, Troupe's Choice.
---
Specific info that is not widely known

Taiga Reinwald was rescued from certain death in the mountains near Thalia village, by the Goddess Thalia, when he was just a newborn baby. Named after the area he was found, he was soon taken in and raised by the New Beginnings Orphanage. Growing up, Taiga was always the largest child in town often getting picked on or challenged to fights. He learned to use his fists, and at times even his claws, early on, both with the amazoness who raised them, and in the allies with the punks who wanted to prove who was superior. They quickly learned that he would not simply fall over like a large tree if they tried anything. These fights continued all throughout and included his teen years This reputation got him labeled as a rebellious youth who was generally to be avoided unless you wanted to get hurt. Unless it was to pick a fight the other children ignored him, he would have become a total delinquent if not for a dark elf girl standing up for him one day when the older boys decided to start throwing rocks.

From that point on he had the goddess and his 'big sister' in his corner. The two of them were, and continue to be, thick as thieves. He was glued to her hip for the first year, and outside of training only went off on his own when the Goddess was around. She often came to the orphanage to read stories about brave heroes and their exploits. The stories that he loved the most were those of protectors like Hercules who did not have to be afraid of anything or anyone and who could help people.

As he grew older he internalized those stories as he became much more independent and nearly tripled in size. He began to try to find ways that he could help the orphanage and his older sister other than just fighting monsters. His reputation as the local muscle and general punk gave him the opportunity to work at the tavern as a bouncer. That's how he met her. A traveling merchant who took a fancy to him.

Now, normally his heroic code would not let him sleep with a woman, but seeing the pouch of coins she put on the table, more money than he had seen in his lifetime, just for him, he couldn't refuse. That was his first introduction to the life of the courtesan. After that first meeting she would arrive in town purposely out of her way just for him. She put him through his paces, taught him about alcohol, teas, things to whisper in the dark, conversation to make when the lights are better left on. Despite himself he realized that he was surprisingly good at the task. During those visits his patron would often talk about the high end establishments she visited when she made her way to the big city. She mentioned the dungeon city most of all.

Despite his growing skill he kept the specifics of his business away from the familia and in particular his big sister. Recently the visits from his patron has really grown infrequent what has been a couple of months has been more like 8 since her last visit. Feeling dejected his soul yearns for more a desire to be a both a hero of justice and of passionate fervor.

The morning light slowly pours in through the windows of her bedroom, that had been pulled back to continue to let in the starlight the night before. Amelia wanted to have nothing to do with it due to her late night reading. It was one of those early mornings after studying and working hard all day. She wanted to blow up the sun or at least turn back time by at least a number of hours. This morning, in particular, the small child in her refused to be an adult and get out of bed.

In the ultimate act of defiance, she rolled away from those hated golden spears trying to assault her dreamland and pulled the blanket close like a shield. As she cracked open an eye she saw a fuzzy black mass within arm's reach. Feeling a sudden autumn chill run up her spine from the movement she half asleep pulled Nyx close to her in her blanket nest. Reveling in his soft plush warmth as she listened to his heartbeat. It was like have a living piece of home to have right alongside her.

Wrapping her arms around him closer like a teddy bear she listened to his heartbeat trying and only half succeeding to fall back to sleep.

Amelia set the two different colored shards, from the dungeon, on the floor of her room as she looked at Nyx, "Okay, just try using Mending on these and see if it works. Then we can move on to stage two.

Amelia had a notebook and a pencil out taking notes on this entire process. the goal was to see if they could infuse the crystals with power to up their value but first Amelia thought it would be easier to have two whole ore to work with. There were bags under her eyes from lack of sleep but she was too excited to see if her idea would work to not give it a shot.

Amelia lay awake in her bed after the party doing her to get some, if not any, sleep. She eventually realized that sleeping seemed off the table and glanced over in the pitch dark, at the book that she knew was sitting there. Reaching into her bag on the bedpost she found her small flashlight and flipped it on.

It was an eerie sensation seeing the room through a thin tube of light without the addition of streetlights to bleed through the curtain. She knew she was well protected in the castle and with Nyx right beside her, but still the small child in her expected to see faces of monsters hiding in the deep shadowed corners. It did not help matters that demons and magic existed in this world.

Once she was done her quick scan of the shadows she quickly grabbed the book written by Athena and began greedily reading. Like a child who had stolen a book, they were not supposed to read from their older brother's room.

She gave herself a good half hour to make it to the villa and have everything she needed to try again and show him what clothes from her world are like. She purposely brought things like her swimwear and her jeans to show him various other pieces.

"I hope he likes what I have."
She said only realizing how silly that sounded once she heard it spoken out loud.

Amelia arrived in Ebner's office late in the day hoping that she had given him enough time to have an update for her as promised. She was curious about how the various craftsman were doing adapting the memories that she had shown him into practice. But in truth, she was the most nervous whether or not he had been successful getting in contact with the slavers of the nation on her behalf. She did not like the knot forming in her stomach, she wished she had more help dealing with people in the shadows.

Though sleeping in Kurt's room last night and dealing with Thyra had given her an idea on an avenue to search for a reasonable spymaster. Knocking on the door as she entered she spoke, "Good day Ebner, I hope I'm not keeping you too late. I'm here for our scheduled update."

I am more than willing to pay back what I take come my next job.

Date: Day 11 -  7 AM

The early morning meeting with the Basgkassia representative was scheduled for an early morning meeting and hard worked hard to get her feline partner ready for the early morning. She had been interested in the fact that a nation that is known for it's divided populace and love of slavery would send a demi-human as a representative. That spoke volumes about her skill and prowess. If she wanted to stop slavery in Bursteg and absorb the Darmona she could use the input of such a person.

This was the one meeting where Amelia had brought Nyx along for more than just protection something said that he would provide an interesting talking point. Showing how he treated her and vice versa could breakdown walls. All that was left was to hope that breakfast was a smart idea and that it would not hold up her other meetings for the day.

Location: Visiting Valkyrie Villa
Date: Day 10 - 6 PM

She had asked for a late night meeting because of that red light she saw emanating from the other women. All throughout the meeting she had continued to sneak glances in her direction to see if anything changed and that light was always there. She had never seen something like that before, except when Nyx used magic. To make matters stranger, however, no one else seemed to notice the entire meeting. So as she sat on the sofa with her cat on her shoulder she knew she was going to take a risk tonight by telling the truth.

All that was left to do now was wait for her arrival.

Location: Visiting Dragon Knight Villa
Date: Day 10 - 2 PM

Amelia sat in the greeting room of the house given to the representative of the Dragon Knights she did her best to steady her hands. Her cat on her shoulder as ever the security blanket to dissuade any dangerous thoughts on the part of the guards. She chose to meet here in neutral territory so that they would be comfortable at the same time she was left open. At least with Nyx her, if something went wrong they would be in for a surprise. She chose to drink her glass of water while waiting for the holy man to arrive.

The reason she had asked for this meeting was that in all of her readings she heard little about the Dragon Knights and she wanted to get the truth from the horses or dragon's mouth.

As the old saying goes a clean bad is a clean mind. Or at least that was a saying that Amelia came up with when she found an old lunch in her bag. Throwing out what was already to far gone however made her think about the food she had been eating and how it would be nice to have the flavors of home again. Then a thought hit her. Why not use what she had here to try and grow what she could and see if that works.

Phantom
Enigma fixer
C 9
L 1 costs quad
The genderless voice on the other end of a phone who works across the globe without ever actually showing their face or getting their own hands dirty and yet they somehow have their thumb on some of the more unique and eccentric parts of the shadows. Seen as a myth to some and others an omen of drek really not only hitting the fan but getting ready to explode if they are getting involved then something or someone must have caught this eccentric benefactors attention. As such this ghost in a box collects runners who are equally strange and would prove difficult to handle by most other fixers curating runs as much for the runner's benefit as for the clients. If there even is a client in the first place. A faceless mask who enjoys a good laugh at your expense as much as setting a decade-long plan into motion. While they seems at least at first glance to want to leave the world better than the shit hole where they found it. How that happens and what that means is as mysterious as the figure and his riddles.

Lael Barick
Elf Information Broker
C: 9
L: 2 (Note: loyalty costs double)
Now, everyone in the shadows keeps their ear to the ground and those that don't usually wind up fertilizing soy. But there is a difference between your average street denizen keeping their ear to the ground and an actual professional information broker. When it comes to the Portland shadows, Lael Barick is one of the few that actually is willing to come down to the street level to give access to runners. Now just because she is accessible doesn't mean she is cheap. If you can't barter with some other really useful piece of information, she will charge you extra. Runners looking to hawk some paydata will usually look to her to offload for whatever she feels like paying. She makes sure to profit off of everything though and won't pay much unless you happen to stumble across something that will make even her pause.

Steve is an up and coming fixer looking to work his way to the top. Steve has only just broken into the big league scene and doesn't have the rep or clout to pull many strings but he has a reputation for seeming to have an endless supply of effort when it comes to scoring for a client. He has only just begun setting up runner teams and many of the unknowns have started to turn to him looking to get in on the action and get a name made for themselves rather than try to break into the scene by waiting in a runner bar hoping to get noticed.

Asrian Talshra (10)
Ancient Captain
C: 6
L: 4 (Note: if not elf, loyalty costs 4x and can't be higher than 1)
The Shadows of Portland just would not be complete without the Ancients. Being the heart of the Tir, Portland has quite the contingent of Ancients. Large enough to rival some of the local organized crime outfits, the Ancients are the biggest street gang in Portland. Don't let their biker gang image and style fool you though, these guys are armed to the teeth (some suspect the Tir gives them surplus milspec hardware on the cheap) and train their recruits to be more than street punks. They say they are better trained than the corp runts in the constabulry and definately have bigger balls. And who, you might ask, leads these pointy eared maniacs? Asrian Talshra. Portland's captain of the Ancients knows the streets of his hometown like the back of his hand and is said to be able to get anything anywhere and his outfit specializes in moving guns and drugs around the Tir and through the northwest in shipment sizes that might surprise you.

Running Deer
Troll Shaman (11)
C: 6
L: 5
The quintessential Amerindian shaman, Running Deer is an ork that walks with the spirits. Running Deer is a fixture in the local magic community. No one is quite sure how old he is but he certainly SEEMS old and wise. He likes to mentor newly awakened in the shadows and counts quite a few street magi among his pupils. No one really knows why he does what he does but the haters think he is building up some kind network of loyal pawns while most everyone else thinks he's just trying to turn the dimmer towards bright. Regardless, he seems to work hard to be on the good side of things and might just be that lone light in the shadows in an otherwise dark cityscape.
Specialties: Introductions, Magical good

Runner Deer is one of the few people Zephyr has told about his past and who is helping him try to regain his missing time and explore the connection that has been formed between his soul and whatever escaped from a magical painting

Doctor Frankenstein (6)
Elf Street Doc
C: 1
L: 5
Honest to God his name is Frankenstein and he's a doctor. He started up a small affordable clinic near the east barrens which was great PR for his patrons and attracted plenty of bleeding heart corp kids for volunteer labor. As time went on though, the corporate patron funding dwindled and the bleeding hearts stopped bleeding. and now the clinic is run by Friedrich Frankenstein all by his lonesome. Being a skilled, good natured, and affordable Street doc means he has plenty of friends but also plenty of problems. He seems to constantly get in trouble. He mostly funds his clinic these days by doing 'ware installations for runners or selling medical equipment to them but this is a slim margin to operate on and he frequently hits the red. This fact of life tends to see him in debt to one unsavory character or another as he tries to make ends meet while keeping his clinic open.
Specialties: Healing, Surgery, Medical supplies
Friends: Bleeding people, David Chen
Enemies: People he owes money

He goes to frankenstein when the dreams and visions have become to much to bare. The doctor agreed to give him preferential help if Zephyr agreed to a regular physical to map any and all additional changes that occur for the docters own research

But her metalic demeanor hides a dry humor that is just as sharp if not sharper then her wits.  She has little use for nuyen outside of what she can farm on her own time with her programming skills. What she values is information worth putting in the archive a compendium that she is personally curating for her own pet projects.  It had been a couple of days since her first meeting with Ragna and getting that agreement that he would help teach her about the faith. When she had asked the king he had offered the royal library as an out of the way place from the daily workings with good lighting where they could study in peace. She had yet to actually check it out in person but with her bag, over her shoulder, she was glad to get back to something familiar for a change. She had rangled both Akari and Kurt into these classes as well, to varying degrees of acceptance. But she had managed to strangle them both and if Matilda or Takeru wanted to tag along to sit and read for hours they were free to.

She had not given the older siblings much of an option to do otherwise. So the day had come and here she was making it to her first class like this was a high school with both a mixture of anxiety and excitement.

Amelia couldn' Sleep the events from the day previous were rattling around in her head. It was to early to read or go for a walk as it the sun had yet to even shift from black into the purple pinks of dawn. Going back to sleep was also not much of an option. Then a thought struck her there was something mildly interesting she could play with despite the lack of light.

That status screen had been in her head before, and then it hit her what if there was more then that one screen? The only question was what could their command be if any? "Well, there is no harm in trying."
She devised a plan.  She would say a command wait 10 seconds and see what came up if anything then work from there. "Just start with the simple stuff Amelia."

Amelia walked slowly between the open-air stalls of The Fremont Sunday Market taking in the sights and smells with a practiced rhythm. It had been a tradition since she was a child to come to this market almost every week even when her brother was still an infant. Bustling bodies mixed with the scent of cooked brunch, coffee, and must that was a kind of nostalgia in concentrate for the teenager. It always seemed to bring a bounce to her step no matter how early she went, as soon as she entered that wave of humanity she was back to being a five-year-old girl digging through mysterious sands for hidden treasure.

The same could not be said for the friends she often dragged along at her side at all hours of the day. "You promised actual shopping and food, Ami, currently I have neither and we've been here for over an hour." her best friend Jules yawned dryly too tired to be swept up in her friend's aura of wonder.

"You have a large cup of coffee in your hand right now" Amelia smirked.

"Yes,"
She sipped dramatically, "and it's the only thing keeping my blood moving right now."

"I don't know how you aren't jumping off the walls you have so much caffeine in your system."

"Working late nights in a coffee shop causes a certain amount of immunity in the employees. However, being this fucking cool all the time does not make me able to go without food." quipped the tall brunette. "Why I let you choose the places we always go I have no idea."

"I told you, you would regret it for promising to pay for us to hang out before I left for Europe."

"I know I'm a saint aren't I."
"Saints are usually willing to starve themselves." Amelia stuck her tongue out as she pulled a hand knit scarf to inspect it.

"Hardy Har Har. Listen you agree to stop your treasure hunting and sit for a bit while I eat, and I'll promise to buy you anything you find that you can carry in a suitcase. Take it as a gift to remember me and be stricken with guilt while your galavanting all over Europe."

"Thank you, are so thoughtful"
Amelia laughed "I'll remember that the next time I beat up a guy for you."

"Brent is an asshole,"

"You have bad taste in men."

"We can't all have a complicated will they won't they relationship with a good looking childhood friend. And you know you like threatening the men I choose to fall in lust with for the moment."

"There's no will they won't they thing," Amelia said rolling her eyes.

"I'd say, you haven't even kissed yet Connor just pines after you. For years."

Amelia blushed "How about that food, huh?"

"I thought you would never ask."

Brunch was simple on two-part timer's budgets, but the promise of hours of walking meant that they had no abandon on their choices. Three muffins a cup of tea and another large coffee later and the two girls were prepared for the hunt. Jules was more interested in designer goods than anything second hand but now with a full stomach, she could appreciate her friend's infectious enthusiasm. Amelia, on the other hand, was busy applying the family trade as she let herself be pulled by her eye and instincts from storefront to storefront.  The ability to see past patina, hard use, and fakes to see the real treasures was one that took years of experience. She remembered when she was an only child and her parents were called away at work she would try to impress her parents with her finds while they had been gone. Her younger self-had worked hard trying to learn everything she could just so she wouldn't be left behind, and as a result, she had found a series of treasures in markets like this.

Today, however, was special there was going to be an art convention in Paris her parents had worked on and off for the past year and they had gotten invitations to the opening events. It being summer they had decided to make it a family trip by going to see distant family that still lived all across Europe. Her first trip overseas had her more excited then she wanted to admit. To see castles and culture like nothing they had in America was an appealing prospect. Yet it was a bittersweet happiness. She was leaving her territory the places where everyone knew her name as well as her best friends like Jules or Conner. So she wanted to take in every moment she could of this place to drown out the nagging fear that this may be the last time she saw this place in a really long time.

So she took her time holding each chipped piece of China that caught her attention and every bronze statue as if perfoming an act of ritual worship, Each piece was created for a purpose be it a specific task or to express an idea. Even a fake if done properly had equal value to the real deal so long as it was made with care. However, even more than quality, it was the memories they contained that always attracted Amelia the most. A locket with a faded picture or some aged cabinet all held memories of their various owners. Walking through these markets was like walking through time itself. However, that day had yet to hold her attention for longer than a few seconds at a time. That was until she made it to her favorite area which contained the second-hand books. There was something particularly romantic about old books. That smell of old paper especially mixed with a cup of coffee or tea was like heaven a means of escaping from the real world to a fantasy using all of your senses.

"We should have just come here first."
laughed Jules

"Hey books are perfect for travel!" said Amelia defensively she was digging through a pile of books mostly old fantasy paperbacks on top of an old writing desk,

"Says the bookworm who has always been more interested in fantasy and reality."

"I'll have you know-" she stopped mid-sentence as she absentmindedly opened the main drawer of the cabinet and something fell to the ground with a thud. "Hello, why were you hiding in there?" The book was an old leather-bound novel with flaking and aged gold filigree, the pages were yellow and brittle as she picked it up but the binding was well kept enough at a glance that she felt comfortable opening it.

"That book is missing a title?"
said Jules looking over her shoulder any writing on the books cover had given away to time long ago.

"The first few pages are missing too no big surprise based off of how old it is." said Amelia as she carefully flipped through the pages. "I think it's some kind of fantasy book said Amelia through her quick scanning. It talks about magic making the world and some kind of divine story. It's written almost entirely from the first person like some kind of memoir." She sighed as she turned to the back, "I think the page with the author's name is missing too."

"Is the entire story there in the first place?" said Jules skeptically.

" I think so, the binding seems almost totally intact just those first few and last pages seem to be missing." She stroked the front cover someone had used real cowhide and gold while making this book even if most of it was beaten away by time. No small expense even in today's publishing market. Something about the fact that there was the added mystery of who wrote this book and why made her even keener.

Jules sighed seeing the glimmer in Amelia's eye's "You really do have the weirdest taste Amelia no wonder you are more interested in princes then real men." She held out her hand, "I promised to buy whatever you chose remember? I'll check with the seller to make sure you aren't staking a claim to some long lost family inheritance." What was strange was that the owner of the stall had no clue where such a book came from in the first place. Which to their benefit meant that Amelia could haggle down her prize well past what she surmised was its actual value.

She was giddy as a child as she left with a small shopping bag in hand she and Nyx would be spending a lot of time together with this one. She even had Jules and Connor sign the bookmark she had gotten a day before she left. Something about this trip caused her heart to pump with that kind of nervous adrenaline at least with this book she could escape into a world where nothing could go wrong.

I'm writing this diary as a safe space to gather my thoughts I think it will be important to keep things organized if the future is as crazy as it seems. They always say its easier to keep a dairy if you pretend you are writing a letter to someone. I guess I could just pick one of my friends or my parents... No, that doesn't feel right. So I guess I'll pick you,  little brother, you are only twelve so I guess it would force me to explain myself as much for my own sake as much as an audience who might find this.

So...

Hi Cameron,

How's sport's practice going? Have you taken good care of mom and dad once I was gone? That's not something I should focus on. Just stick to the here and now Amelia worrying about what may be happening back home does no one any good.

Anyway, little bro, I'm keeping this diary on my phone because I'm guessing that no one else will be able to make a copy of my fingerprint to be able to hack in. This is meant to help me gather my thoughts and help me figure out what I want to do next if I want to survive in this strange new world. Today is the first night that I can remember spending in the castle of Burgsteig. I have no clue about the date or the day of the week I suppose that is one of the first things to ask about tomorrow.

Regardless, they brought me and Nyx here to be some kind of hero for their people and even made me their queen. I'll wait till you are done laughing. Done yet? Good. You aren't the only one questioning the foresight of that decision, but I decided to accept. In a completely foreign world where magic exists, I have no real means of survival outside of their goodwill at the moment, so I lept at the offer without thinking. But at least the prince and princess seem nice enough if not all little odd. Kurt the prince tried to hit on me and out of instinct I flipped him. No they didn't send me to the stocks or anything like that. I think you would like his sister Matilda though she may be a bit girly for you. She likes to pretend she's a maid in a castle. I know you would perfer I got stuck in Metropolis or ran into spiderman.

So now I need to make a plan before the coronation and I have a ton of responsibility. I'm going to ask for two months before officially taking the position. If I'm going to do this and try to figure out how to get home I need to try and get my barrings. I've made a basic list of the things I need to do before I can become queen.

BIG SISTER'S PLAN TO NOT BE DEPOSED AND PUT IN A GUILLOTINE
Hold off coronation for two month
Meet with head of major artisan's or merchant guilds
Learn what the major economics powers ar
Learn who the people are
Learn who if any major religious figures there are (THIS ONE IS IMPORTANT)
Learn about magic
Meet a powerful magic user
Learn about world history
Learn about the world
Learn about demons
Learn about neighboring countries
Explore the city
Find all major buildings etc

Hopefully, I get to have some fun seeing the sites of this new city once I can get outside. I have to admit that I'm curious.

Well, I'll update you with things once I get a chance.
Stay out of trouble you devil

Love Amelia

Her reading and her work at her parent's Pike's place antiques shop has honed her ability to read people and things even if she is blind to herself. Her training at a local dojo backs up statements she would otherwise make.

This hipsterish girl with her black cat at her heals may seem like an easy mark at first glance. But beneath that warm bookish exterior is a will and body of steal that cuts just as hard as her words. If only she knew what she wanted from life then not even nature could stand in her way. But tucked away in a path that seemed all to perfect and planned she couldn't help but feel like she was missing something larger as her heart ached for adventures and more.

Misc: Give me that reverse harem, she was somehow

Traits, Flaws, and Feats / [Vote] Meta martial feats
January 23, 2018, 09:24:16 PM
So I made a mistake on durations and as a result, the concept of meta martial feets was born in particular

In particular something like extends magic:

becomes to extend a maneuver by double its duration then that maneuver then also locks out one of a higher level for a short rest or until all maneuvers are restored.

Same with all the other meta magics with such costs

ORIGIN STORY

In a nutshell, Henry "HIro"  Hawthorne was an average highschooler from freedom city on a trip to japan with his parents on a trip to map the countries spiritual history and rediscover lost secrets. In the process, something happened in the ruins of a forgotten temple. (Evil released government agents etc yet to decide and open to whatever ideas.) His parents die and he is mortally wounded and bleeding out stuck under a huge wooden beam as fire licked around him like a pack of wolves.

However, in those last moments, the teen comes face to face with a women appearing out of the mist and smoke dressed like a princess from when the temple was alive and flourishing. She glowed with an unnatural aura but it was less her supernatural beauty then what she said that surprised him. She claimed that he was going to die here his fate sealed to turn to ash if things stayed as they were. That was when she made her offer claiming to be a minor goddess who was also forgotten by time and risking disappearing with the destruction of the last source of faith she had, but there was a way for both of them to survive. She could use the last of her power to save him make his body better then whole all he had to do was become her vessel a fresh source of devotion that she could use to see the new world and begin building her legend once again.

She didn't go into much detail over the proccess at the time, but for Hiro it didn't matter he was feeling his life force slipping away as the shroud of death got ever closer and he would have done anything in that moment to stop it. He should have thought what that could mean for his life if he agreed. Because while her power did heal him and give him the power to escape there was more then one side affect. He know had a new permant house guest in his head who followed him home like a dog on a leash. His own personal haunting that was invisible to the rest of the world and able to touch him. It doesn't help that she has the attitude of a goddess at times purposefully messing with him for the sake of her own amusement. Her influence on him has also begun affecting him physically changing making him taller and larger. Not capable of eating overly processed food, the kind of clothes she will allow him to wear. She got obsessed with all kind of modern day fashion. Due to their deal, he was no right to refuse her though she has yet to do anything overly cruel. And there is something about her that Hiro has to admit is alluring attractive and she can be kind when all the cards are played needing him more then he needs her. Though its hard to tell whether that attraction is natural or a result of the pact

What's worse is the deal got him a part-time job of evil spirit hunter as their deal made him sensitive to the spirit world and his soul made him a tasty target. Put it all together and his life has been far from normal as a result his uncle brought him to a school for supers hoping there that they could understand and help him deal with what he was going through. Starting tenth grade at a new school is hard, starting a new school with a bunch of horemone crazed supers that could be more then deadly

POWERS & TRAITS

Details to come.  He's a faith-based hero the closer the relationship between him and his hime the more powerful the pair are. So his power set is mostly like a traditional D&D paladin divine smites, healing and the like mixed with the Japanese faith philosophy  with wards and sutras. His favored weapon is a wooden katana

Current ideas include:
  • Divine Strike:  Takes whatever weapon he is using and imbues it with divine force increasing the damage to +1 on damage track can affect insubstantial or necrotic beings
  • Divine Ward:  Sutra that wards and protects a space to stop evil from entering any evil category creature cannot cross the barrier without
  • Healing of Faith.:  Minor healing able to downgrade worst damage condition by one in other people
  • Kiss of the princess:  Low rating in Regeneration.
  • Unnatural athlete:  +5 five to athletics and acrobatics due to how the princess has reshaped his body
  • Divine Beauty: +5 to anything where his looks could add things
  • Goddess descends: The hime Fully manifests to deal with the situation think D&D divine intervention however if she does so Hiro loses complete control and blacks out

COMPLICATIONS
Influence of a goddess: Hiro is affected greatly by every whim of the goddess even if its unconscious and it can affect his development and change him both physically and mentally like only eating natural food or being forced to be dressed as a punk.
Room For Two: Having a goddess in your head and at times sitting on your desk in a school girl outfit can be distracting for things like talking with friends or finishing homework. He at times take a hit in concentration for average tasks when the princess wants attention.
Tasty Soul Do to the magic that has infused into his soul he represents a very tastey snack for evil spirits and other monsters think xxxholic blue seed or inuyasha
New Kid on the block This is meant to be largely a high school story after all

I found this and it could be useful for Grey but I'd love some opinions about cost and what not.

Main story / Arc 1 Clark Solo: New Town Old Tropes
July 06, 2017, 04:16:21 PM
The summer before school started depending on Clark's cruelly long because there was nothing to do and he was dying of bordem, or it was cruelly short as the school year approached and this meant that he would be chained to small town life even longer. What worse is the school cut into his summer a few weeks early for a school field trip for sophmores to New York and the Met. Being pushed by his grandparents to go since they knew he would rather the break. Wether this glimpse into his old life was a moment of relief or little more then an empty bottle to a man dying of thirst only time will tell. Being one of the few transfer studensts in the school he stood out like a sore thumb as people both watched his every move and yet avoided him like the plauge. This was a glimpse into his new school life one of the many sideshows that both fascinated and frieghtened small town life. Half uttered whispers of his family life occassionally metting his ears.

It did not matter that the heat that summer across the entire Northeast was enough to boil a rattlesnake's blood. So the entire bus was more then happy to get out of the oven that was the bus and museum. The only problem is that everything but the emergency exhibit cooling was working there as well under the open glass roofs. So the tour that the school had planned was playing out like a walk through hell. One of the few exhibits that did have cool air was a new babylonian exhibits. Looking to get out of this sweat pit and away from the eyes and whispers Clark doubled back following a trail of a handful of other students to the exhibit. The hall was dark with all kinds of pieces from the mundain shards of clay to metal works depicting dieties in the like. Memories of his parents fluided his senses then as he tried to push the phantoms down and lose himself in the history. They had spoken about an exhibit in the near future before they died at the Met. Sure enough he saw his parents name on one or two of the small golden plaques by key pieces

At the center of the exhibit was a lecturn with an ancient book the class had walked through the hall affording Clark only a glimpse but now freshly emptied he could see the tome in totallity. However the group of students seemed to huddled around the High Priest book as well. However something seemed off. The book had been protected by a heavy glass case and yet now it seemed missing, shattered to bits on the ground. Some one had broken the case and managed to not raise an alarm whats more a strange smell filled the air as if some one had lit prayer insence. A candle burning dark black dripping wax on its pages seemed to be the topic of conversation. Clark was about to say something when all of the sudden the room began to spin and sway. The other students seemed to be feeling it too because one after another everyone in the room seemed to faulter. The candle fell then seeting the book and the room ablaze with dark purple fire. Clark being closest to the door attempts to turn to call for help but a light from the room suddenly blinds him and then in the dark void between his eyes and his lids he sees a robbed woman sitting at a table she says something to the group and then is gone.

When Clark wakes up again there is no fire or yelling adults, but instead you are back on the bus again sitting as he had been in the back the trip finished with no major problems. Listening to the whispers of the other students there wasno mention of the fire or what went on in the room and due to the size of the group no one who had been in that room with you or saw that strange robed woman was riding with you. Everyone around you seemed to have no idea of a fire when you asked several even claiming that you followed the tour the entire time even showing a class photo with you in it that you have no memory of taking. Not wanting to add even more to your reputation you decide to drop the whole thing for the time being. However, almost every night since that cloaked woman or what went on in that museum has haunted your dreams. Not to meantion the strange energy that has left you on edge that seems to hang around town ever since. As questions of who that woman was and what could have happened that day fill your waking hours.

However, no answers have been forth coming and now it is the first day of school at Washington High

You've been traveling on the High Road for days from your various homes. All from varying walks of life and with different stations. As Evening approaces, you spot a wooden signpost next to a trail that heads north to the hills. Nailed to the post are three arrow- shaped signs. The two marked Waterdeep and Daggerford follow the High Road but point in opposite directions. The third, marked Nightstone, beckons you follow the trail. If memory serves, Nightstone is roughly ten miles up the trail.

A caravan hailing from Waterdeep carrying a number of patrons including a city guard and a young rail thin urchin moved slowly lazily as it came to the crossroads. It mixed and mingled with the  various other traffic including the small foot traffic that carried a traveling sorceress and druid. All this coming and going ignored the upper trail, and the wilderness beyond. Rumors of roving monsters, the encroaching dispute of elves from a nearby forest, and weather had cut off almost all travel to once had been an up and coming hunting town for those nobles who enjoyed such excursions. Even the meteor that fell in the middle of town with unknown magical origin was not enough to keep interests of the academics. However, such problems hold the promise of certain rewards for those willing to throw their hat and possible blade into the ring. So, as the traffic clears four travelers stand staring at the sign pointed towards Nightstone bound by their own hopes and dreams. With only a ten mile stretch to the future and the silence of the road.
