"I'm here on vacation actually.  You know, seeing the sights, the rustic charm of rural Isger."  Replied the man with a smirk. "You said goblins hired you to look into the smoke? What do they want with the keep? Did you find anything out yet?"

Melody eyed the symbol around the knight's neck.

"Yes, such charming dungeons I know." Spira answered the man's sarcasm with her own. "They live here, as I understand it. I suppose they had an simple time negotiating a deal to move in, the previous owners certainly didn't ask for much." She smiled at her own jest, as nonsensical as it was, knowing that followers of Asmodeus loved to wheedle and deal unfairly. She deliberately avoided mentioning that they had just arrived and knew absolutely nothing about the situation.

"How goes your vacation?"

pringerbeam

"Ha! Right, no better place for a holiday. You said the goblins live here? Don't tell me they actually found the deed. I thought it was supposed to have been hard enough to find that a gaggle of goblins wouldn't just stumble across it."  He replied, looking genuinely interested in the topic of the keep's current inhabitants.

Asta

"I wouldn't know. Possession is nine-tenths of the law as they say. I doubt they have much competition for the space. Well, besides the monsters. There's a deed you say? Looking to find a souvenir?"

pringerbeam

"Actually, yes. Though not the deed. Can't really bring a whole citadel for a keepsake. Not sure how I'd bring it back. Bit hard to fit in my pack... in case you didn't notice."

Asta

"Noted. If I may, what exactly are you looking for? Perhaps we could come to a mutually beneficial deal. A... contract of sorts." Spira hoped the thought of haggling over "legally binding agreements" might entice the man into divulging useful information.

pringerbeam

At this the young man grins. "Sure, how's about this: I'll help you with your job and if we find what I'm looking for in the process it's mine to have.  Sound fair?"

Asta

"Nearly. I don't speak for the group, so it depends on them. Being the prudent scholar I am though, before we make an agreement I'd like to know what it is you're looking for. You don't need to tell me what you plan to do with it." Spira had become tired of beating around the bush. In truth she really didn't care what mystical bauble the man was looking for, but you could never be too careful.

pringerbeam

"A simple gold ring, mundane, and worth nothing but it's weight in coin at a pawn shop.  So, do we have a deal?"  At this the fighter stuck out his open hand to shake.

Asta

Spira raised an eyebrow. "Like I said, I don't speak for the group. Are the rest of you alright with this?"

Belsarus leaned back against the wall, still on his feet. He was listening to the conversation but after that bout with poison he wanted a moment to rest. The man seemed to be friendly enough, which is more than he expected to find in the keep to begin with, but he had been around the slums long enough to know that you can't always take a man's word at face value.
