Northern Road from Thalia Village
Day 6 - Later that day

With the wagon and horse, the group started making their way towards the north road. There had been some people from the familia going to the other villages already telling about the upcoming festival, and this seemed to have drummed up the traffic going to and fro from the village. Though, likely, in another few days time, more and more people would be making their way towards town.

There was a scream from somewhere in the distance on the road ahead. The tall grasses and hills blocking the view of whatever it was.

Perception requested.

Elidia's ears perk up, hearing the scream in the distance. She scans the area, looking for something amiss.

Outside Thalia Village
Daytime

The festivities were surely a highlight in the surrounding lands. Between the goddess and her familia, even the common people were interested in what Thalia's familia was hosting. It was a festival for an exodus, a change in their lives. Would it be a temporary visit, or a permanent stay? It just depending on what Thalia-sama wished.

Of course not all the attention to the festival was a good thing. The fact that people were coming regularly and from all around, meant there were opportunities as well. Good opportunities... and bad ones. Whether bandits looking to fill their coin purse. Or wild beasts looking to fill their bellies. Not everyone in the land was capable of fending off such aggressive attacks. The act of patrols in itself, was to discourage both man and beast from hunting the common traveling routes. The sight of humans, the smell of humans. Both acted as a deterrent to the would-be attackers, for whatever their reasons. Knowing was half the battle. The other half, well... That was real battle.

Rei had agreed to take part in this endeavor, although she sincerely hoped that nothing bad would happen. She simply just wanted the chance outside of the village and to spot any monsters. How she loved monsters. Preferably not being eaten of course, but that was sometimes the way of things. She and two other companions had taken up the mage's request, to allow the young woman to focus on preparations for the village festival. It was a good break for Rei as well, for having to pour her face over old dusty maps. The act of going out and witnessing some of the landscape itself, to re-verify what the maps showed, was good for her. She had been sitting in the back of the wagon, quietly, watching out the back as the horse pulled it along. It was quiet for the longest time, then there was a loud scream. It wasn't that of an excited and innocent child, as the horse itself turned its ears downward, wary of the danger it sensed. It was the type of scream that could temporarily freeze the blood of an adventurer when they knew something was not right. "That sounded kind of close..." she would say, standing up and preparing to move from the wagon if necessary.

Everyone's Perception
The screams were coming from both a man and a woman from somewhere up ahead. Unfortunately, with the hill in the way, along with the outcropping of rocks, none in the group were able to see exactly who were making the sounds. Up ahead, two horses were stampeding right towards your group. Their eyes were fearful, and it was easy to tell they must have been running away from something.
Elidia's Perception: 23
Beyond the two horses coming your way, about 230 ft. in the distance, beyond the rocks, you managed to get sight of an insectoid like creature.

Elidia can attempt to roll Knowledge (nature) to identify it. Or just a regular intelligence check if she doesn't have the skill. If Elidia tells the others, other PCs can roll.

Intelligence roll.

Elidia's Intelligence: 10
It looks like a scorpion. Though, much larger. If a scorpion was a man-sized at least. However, you couldn't identify exactly which species it was.

Oath

"It looks like there are some large scorpions in the distance, not completely sure what they are, but the people that were screaming need help. Maybe we can get a bit closer with the wagon and rush in to catch the beasts by surprise."

Virgil's brow furrows and he grits his teeth. He snaps the reins to keep the horses going quickly down the road. "Let's be quick then. I'll get us closer, just be ready."

Throndir

The horses that were heading towards you were still galloping towards the group. With the fact that Virgil was now moving your own wagon forward, it wouldn't be long until the horses would move past you altogether.

Elidia's Perception
You notice the scorpions close in towards the two up ahead, the both of them were retreating, but one of the scorpions attempted to attack. Luckily, it missed.

State any preparation actions if any, from what I gather, it'll just be approaching with the wagon.
Everyone roll for initiative.

Schnizzer

Virgil tries pushing the horses even harder trying to get to the people in trouble. He turns to look over his shoulder and shouts towards the others. "This ain't gonna be a gentle. Hold on and be ready to jump out." He turns to look forward again as he grits his teeth biting hard on his piece of hay then shouts towards the horses, "HYA, HURRY UP!"

Elidia rushes into action, charging forward, ice forming at her fingertips. She sees the people that screams as she rounds a boulder and shouts. "Ice Shards!" The ice that had been forming at her fingertips rapidly grew, and launched towards the scorpion that she had eyes on.
