The boy was desperate to have that ice cream, it seemed. He called out his Pokemon hastily to start the fight.

"Come on, Spike! Let's win some ice cream!"

The boy calls out a round-headed Pokemon with...sagging pants? It's a strange but fitting sight.

Miera Fieren

Miera handed the ice cream man the necessary monies and accepted her order, a single ice cream bar of Vesper's choosing. It was such a very rare treat that he only received when Miera was very pleased with him. He had been doing so well with training lately, and the girl happened to be in a doting mood for once. It was when the ice cream man mentioned rather loudly that they had taken the last one that things started to turn sour. That annoying boy who stood in line behind her began to complain as though he was the most important person in the universe. Her eyes narrowed as she turned around to face him, a threatening look on her face. This spoiled brat dared to take away the happiness of her Pokémon?

As the kid continued to complain, threatening a battle, Miera set Vesper down, unwrapped the ice cream and handed it to the Espurr to enjoy. There was no point in battling for the ice cream if it was only going to melt before it got eaten. Although confused about what was going on, the Espurr happily accepted his treat and took a big lick.

"Vesper, protect your ice cream! Make these idiots so confused that they don't even know what ice cream is anymore."

Vesper attacks with confusion.

As Vesper's attack surrounds Spike, he looks around confused, but not in the way you'd hoped. The Scraggy is completely unaffected by the attack, and knows it. The kid, realizing what happened, chortles in glee. "Iiiiiiidiot~! Like that would work on Spike! Spike, show them a real attack!" The Scraggy sauntered up with a grin on its face, then faked a high punch before planting a sucker punch right in Vesper's gut. The blow ends up knocking the poor Espurr over, causing him to land on him face.

Vesper's Confusion didn't affect Spike!
Vesper takes super effective damage from Spike's Faint Attack, which dealt 44 damage.

Vesper takes two wounds, One is an internal blow in the abdomen, reducing his mobility. The other is a scratch and impact to his head, fogging his mind slightly.

Crap. It seemed this Pokémon was immune to Vesper's best attack. And with the dumb thing knocking Vesper down, the ice cream also fell. The ice cream the boy had wanted so badly was now dirty and destroyed, thanks to his own Pokémon. Miera smiled.

"Looks like you won't be getting that ice cream no matter the outcome of this battle, brat." She sneered at the boy.

"Enough, Vesper!" Miera called to return her Pokémon to his ball. He would be of no use teaching this brat a lesson. "Chanterelle, let's see what you can do in a real battle!"

"No. No no no no! WHY DID YOU GIVE IT TO YOU POKEMON THEN ATTACK! I can't believe I didn't notice that. RRRRRAAAAAAA! That's it, you'll buy me a new one! I'll make you!" You could tell his tantrum was making him a bit illogical, but you were starting to get the feeling he just didn't have ice cream money in the first place.

"Spike, another Faint Attack!" He ordered, to which the Scraggy quickly replied, rushing in only to pat Chanterelle's head in distract, then swiftly and powerfully kicking her up from below, toppling her over. The blow again was a walloping strike, leaving the Shroomish with a blow to the head on landing as well as an injured torso, making her footing unsteady.

Vesper is swapped out for Chanterelle.

Chanterelle takes 30 damage from Spike's Faint Attack. Chanterelle gains 2 injuries

Miera Fieren

Miera moved closer to the boy. He must be some sort of con artist. First he complains because she had taken the last of his "favorite" ice cream, and now he was trying to make her buy him one to replace it? It was not his to begin with! No way was she buying him anything after this. What this kid needed was a good, hard spanking. It seemed his parents were failures, allowing such an idiot child to roam the town and try to con others. Well, Miera was not above hitting a child. Or even kicking a child if need-be.

"Chanterelle, Absorb!" She called, then, while the boy was watching the Pokémon, she moved in on him. Moving to kick his legs out from under him so that he would fall forward, Miera prepared to catch him so she could give him the spanking he so dearly deserved.

"Go Spike! Another Faint Attack!"

The absorb strikes true, but doesn't seem to hinder the Scraggy much. Spike was the first to move in the next bout, swiping its tail in a false move before tumbling and slamming its foot in a kick on Chanterelle. The blow is too much for the poor Shroomish to handle and it passes out, with Spike doing another victory pose.

"Yes! Two down! How many more do you- WHA!" The boy is swept off his feet, and you promptly begin spanking him. In the middle of a city. Near an ice cream truck. The battle was already a spectacle for a few nearby people, but now it'd become awkward. With some people cringing. The boy's cries sound through the area, and while you act people begin shifting in their places in anxiety. At first, you think them behind your actions, but them you start overhearing whispers.

"Who does that girl think she is? Disciplining another child like this..."

"THIS is a battle over ice cream?"

"She seemed so mature at first, but now she's no better than that little boy..."

"Such a sore loser, resorting to violence when she gets swept like this...it's MORE embarrassing for her this way."

While you continue the pummeling, you hear a rustling from the field, and look up to see the Scraggy, Spike, rushing you. He takes advantage of your dropped guard while handling the boy and strikes you hard, bashing you away from his trainer. "...Thanks Spike..." You hear the boy say, sniffling. As you go to get back on your feet and continue, you're picked up by the scruff of your neck, a few feet off the ground.

"I think that's enough, little miss. It's pretty obvious who the loser is here." A deep voice says from behind you. "You." He says bluntly. "You lost the fight AND lost your cool. I think you owe that boy an apology, and some ice cream. A girl your age should really know better than this. Assaulting a boy over something so petty."

Your actions force outside intervention. You lose the battle by default. Though not a league-sanctioned match, a battle mid-city is not 'anything goes'.

Miera Fieren

Anger flooded through Miera as she was the one reprimanded for teaching the boy manners. "How dare YOU. I will NOT buy this rude child anything. I did not assault the boy. I taught him a lesson. It is not about the stupid ice cream, it is about his rude manners in trying to force someone who rightfully paid for something after waiting in line to receive it."

Miera does not pay for anything for the boy, as she did not agree to do so. Miera is prepared to battle.

The man stays silent behind her before speaking, "Spanking a child you have no relation with IS assault, little one. Even if you are related, it would be suspect to do so, especially publicly. I witnessed it from the beginning, and the ice cream was most definitely the wager. With the wager destroyed, a replacement needs to be brought forth. If you truly do not wish to pay, then I challenge you to a battle. Or would you rather brawl, little girl?" He sets you down and you turn around to see a man towering about one and a half feet above you, built strongly and obviously some form of fighter. You don't think you could outrun him, nor fight him in any way and succeed.

By now, the boy's parents, who'd sent him to get ice cream for himself, come to see the spectacle, and have been informed of the situation. A mix of disgust and sadness is seen in their faces, with a small hint of understanding. They glare at you as you deal with the man before you.

Challenged to a Pokemon battle with the remainder of your team. If you choose to surrender, you only pay the $50 original. If you fight and lose you pay $100. If you win, you gain $50 and a new ice cream.

Miera Fieren

Miera stood there, gathering her thoughts. This place was so different from the Magma Base she had grown up in. Although she had lived with her parents in their assigned quarters, the whole Team had raised her. They had believed that it "took a village to raise a child" and thus disciplined her and other children on the compound when necessary. It seemed that this place did not follow the same idea. It was a huge fault in their system. If parents were too busy for their child, then who would make sure that the child grew up civilized and capable of serving society? It seemed they did not care. Instead of correcting the child for his ill-mannered behavior, they were opting to punish her simply for laying a hand on him.

The man who had decided that it was his duty to protect ill-mannered children from lesson-teaching victims was not as scary as intimidating as he tried to make himself out to be. Miera had been trained by men similar to him and had learned to look past such attempts of intimidation. With her speed, she might have a chance against him, but as she had not actively fought against someone like him since leaving the Magma base she had been trained on, she was not sure.

What she did know was that the Pokémon she had were of no use in a battle in their current states. Although she had trained Abra to properly use its Thunder Wave, the creature still had more training to go before she would send it out in battle. Zhar was the same. She needed more one-on-one training with him before she was comfortable calling him forth. Vesper was still conscious, but in his weakened state would be of no use.

This left her with only one option. She would have to give in. She, Miera, had to lie and say that she was in the wrong. The boy would not have learned his lesson, now knowing that those who would try to put him in his place would be punished. He could continue to treat other human beings with disrespect and con them into doing his bidding. He was the worst kind, and his parents were even worse for letting him turn out this way.

"..." Miera stared at the ground as she hatched out a plan. If she could get their names, then she could deal with them later. In private. They would never know what hit them, and it would teach them all a lesson about what it meant to mess with her. She could use her, Vesper's, and Abra's skills to teach them.

Looking up at the man, Miera attempted a cheerful smile. "I understand. This society is not like my own. I apologize for inconveniencing you. I thank you for helping me to understand, Mr. ..." She trailed off, a sort of question at the end to show she was asking for a name. "I will go and make amends with the boy and his family now."

Linwelin

The man raises both eyebrows at the about-face attitude of the girl, but doesn't want more trouble, and sees this as good enough. "Oh, uh, well ok then. I could have swore you were ready to fight." The man was confused, but still on guard. "And my name is Jack. I'll be escorting you as you apologize." Jack walks you toward the family, where you see a man and woman in their thirties checking over their boy, your opponent. "The little miss here would like to say something to you three." He pats you on the back to prompt you to spit out your apology.

The parents stand there silently, eyes appraising you with judgment. There was not a hint of forgiveness in the stare they gave you. "So this is the one. Such an unruly child, bringing external violence to a Pokemon battle. You should control that temper, girl." It was the mother that spoke, spitting not-quite-subtle venom with her words. "Well? Go ahead."

Miera Fieren

"True strength lies in knowing when to step down." Miera quoted one of her teachers in response to the man's confusion about her sudden change. She was not sure if "Jack" was his real name or if he was just giving her a name to call him. Without a last name provided, she was more inclined to believe it was a fake name. Unless he did not wish to provide a last name to strangers. She had not yet shared her own name, after all. Not that she would give out her real name to these people.

The girl was silent as Jack led her over to the family and the mother berated her. Seriously? Who did this woman think she was? She should tell her son to control his own temper before telling other people what to do.

"I have nothing to say to you, woman." Miera said, looking straight at the mother. She might have apologized, but after what the mother said, such an action was not something Miera would do. "Practice what you preach, and teach it to your offspring before you tell other people what to do." If the woman insisted on saying more, Miera would tell her to be glad she had not been raised by a cult like she had. Although she willingly stayed with Team Magma, she knew what other people might think of them. She had heard some call groups like Team Magma and Team Aqua cults. Those were not even the only ones. There were other cults like them and some were even worse. All Miera had to do was tell people that she was raised by a cult and they would come to their own worst conclusion about what she might have been through "at the hands of such horrible people."

Bending down to be on eye level with the boy, Miera spoke. "It seems I owe you an ice cream. Does your... friend like ice cream?" She pointed at the Scraggy. "I'll get him one, too."

Linwelin

The woman sneered at the comments, "My word! Watch your tongue. You're talking about an 8 year old boy. For him to have a tantrum is more understandable; you, however, should have more self-control at your age. You have no room to judge me, considering your actions." She ended her response with a 'hmph', but then calmed herself. "Still, I suppose that's the best we'll get from an upstart like you." It seemed she no longer wished for an apology from you, realizing it would get her nowhere to insist on such a thing.

The boy and his Pokemon were both still very wary of you. He'd suffered both your chiding words and your violence, and honestly wanted no more to do with you. Your apology seemed to be taken with a grain of salt; he was sharper than you've given him credit for, not that that changed much of anything. Still, he nodded his head at your offer to get them both ice cream. However, at the offer to get Spike some as well, he handed you his original ice cream money to cover it. "I'm sorry for knocking down your other ice cream..." The boy muttered back in a return apology.
