8:00PM

Earlier in the day, flyers had been handed out, advertising a scavenger hunt. On each flyer was a list of items people had to either collect or receive a ticket from someone helping with the event stating that they were there. All who were participating, whether they found everything or not, were to meet up at 8:00PM sharp to find out the winners and for the winners to receive their prizes.

There were many items on the list, most of which were fairly easy to find. A few items on the list, however, were very difficult to find. It was those items that would determine the real winners of the hunt.

Alaenoria waited as participants began to arrive at the meeting place. She let those who were helping with it call to the passersby to remind them, just in case they had participated at first but had given up. Even they had a chance of winning.

Katrias Lyseer

"You disappear for how many months? And only now you appear, only to ask for some alcohol?" The young prodigy fumed, looking up at Ryine from the book she was reading, her glare only intensifying as the looked upon the warrior. She was annoyed of course, yet at the same time, and though she wouldn't have admitted it, she missed seeing the bumbling oaf of the guild. Ryine disappeared shortly after he got her to join after all.

Katrias let out an audible. Ryine did give her a lot of beers and wines almost a year ago. Ryine disappeared shortly before last year's festivities, and it looks like for this year, the fighter was attempting to make up for his absence.

"I might still have some. But I drank..." She paused, as she showed some hesitance, strange as it was. "I drank a lot of them during last year's New Years. You disappeared and all. Not that I care or anything." She waved a dismissing hand as she snapped her book shut, picked herself up and moved to the guild hall's exit.

"Let's take a look at the shop."

QuoteRequesting DM to decide if Katrias still has that absinthe drink in her stock from last year's New Years.
Idiots. A whole bunch of idiots.

As GM of this, I will be making my rolls publicly.

Callista
So many items had been so easy to find as she moved from event to event. Various leaves, twigs, grasses, and other plants, most of which Callista was familiar with because of both being a druid and a faerie tailor. There was also a lot of festival items, like cotton candy stick, meat kabob stick, and a goldfish. Luckily for the faerie, the game vendors were also in on the scavenger hunt, so they were allowed to provide tickets to those who could not eat certain foods or were unable to win simple games like catching a goldfish. Or for those who simply did not want to have to carry around a goldfish. There were even specific locations on the list that ensured that participants would explore the entire festival. Upon arrive at those locations, if they were on your list, you got a ticket like what the vendors provided to prove you had been there. Overall, Callista had a lot of fun. But a few items on her list were so hard to find...

Maeve
Upon receiving the Scavenger Hunt flyer on her way into the festival that afternoon, Maeve had glanced over it. Most of it was simple stuff. She had decided to take it to the next level and wrote in her own addition. 'A hot date.' There, now she would be even more motivated, both for the contest and for her goal. She was not very familiar with different types of rocks, so she had decided to just pick up different looking ones and hope they were the ones on her list. Her list include a variety of other things that seemed completely random to her. She still could not figure out why they would put locks of hair in various colors on the list of things they had to actually bring in. As her day went on, she had realized two things. Eleven things on her list were a lot harder to find than others. Of course, she had eventually found several of them, including her own addition when she was able to secure Vladimyar as her date for the evening, but they had given her quite the runaround.

Linwelin

Vladimir had heard there was a scavenger hunt going on earlier in the day, but had decided against it. After all, his daily life involved running around thanks to a certain few individuals, whom he still wasn't sure meant to be threatening his life or not. This was the one time where he could walk around leisurely, and he was going to take full advantage. Of course, he had his hat if things became another game of hide and seek. However, he finally decided that, in the end, picking up a sheet for himself and searching casually as he wandered would be enjoyable in its own way. Thus he snagged a sheet and looked it over.

His wandering was quite fruitful even without the hunting, however, as there were many shows and sights to behold, and even a few contests to enter. Those contests were what led to his peaceful times into a whirlwind of chaos, as his arm was suddenly accosted by a certain persistent tigress. He knew well there was no real choice to be had, so he ended up with a date for the evening. Inwardly, he shrugged; it could certainly have turned out much worse. It's not like she was unpleasant company.

Either way, he caught her quickly checking off a piece of paper upon getting his acceptance, and recognized the format of the page as a scavenger sheet. He had no clue what she could possibly check off at this moment, but it was apparent that his date was now also his competition. He'd managed to grab a few of the items throughout the day, but now the spirit of competition lit within him. He was already not going to be relaxed, may as well have fun with it.

"Let's see... An oak leaf, a shard of obsidian, an Easter egg for some reason, Gandin's broken doorknob, a bottlecap, a torn piece of cloth. That's the last of the easy items. That leaves just ten items. Where could these be?" Isaák read off his list of items as he checked them off. Indeed he had managed to collect the list of over a hundred items required for the scavenger hunt. Some were easier to get than others, but some were quite interesting to get a hold of. Thankfully, Gandin wasn't at all attached to the doorknob to his room, which was at this point mangled beyond comprehension. It would be a gamble to guess what it even used to be if you hadn't known beforehand. The most difficult item to find so far had to be Ryine himself, but he thankfully returned to the guild right on time. He also seemed to be involved in the scavenger hunt, so he could just show him to Alaenoria when they all came back to display their findings.

But these last ten items were far off the deep end. Some of them weren't actually difficult to find, but instead seemed like they would extremely difficult to acquire. "A lock of Katrias' hair?!" That particular item stood out to him above the rest. What kind of sick event host would ask that of one of their participants? Isaák had seen Katrias before and, although he hadn't actually spoken with her directly, he knew that she was certainly one of the scarier members of guild. He didn't want to risk approaching her unless and until it was absolutely necessary.

Unfortunately, it appeared that moment had come. A hundred and ninety-four items and it had all come down to this. It would be frightening for sure, but he had already come so far. Giving up now would be both against his nature and terribly inefficient. He had no choice but to soldier on. It was time to put his charisma to the test.

While he went over hist list, he had taken a little time to rest beneath a tree. The scavenger hunt along with the festivities he had distracted himself with were great fun to say the least, but they had a way of giving you a reason to just take a short breather. Of course, if he wanted to make sure to win this contest, he couldn't rest long.

Once he had ensured he had caught his breath, he got to work. Standing to his feet, he made way for the guild. He wasn't entirely sure where Katrias would be now, but there was no better place to search than the last place he had seen her; reading a book at an empty table in the guild hall. He took a deep breath, readying himself for whatever tumultuous path this goose chase would lead him on, and began his journey across the esplanade and into the guild. With any luck at all, he wouldn't have to search for the lady long. He didn't want to spend too much time on just one item when there were still nine more difficult items to gather, even if he was keeping an eagle-eye out for them while he searched for Katrias.

Gandin, son of Gehin

Despite his participation in many of the festival's events, the Scavenger Hunt was easily the activity Gandin focused most effort into. Anyone paying close attention to him would find that Gandin was keeping an eye out for items even when he was in the middle of competing for something else. Whether he was Drinking, Arm Wrestling, or using the bathroom, if there was any potential to find an item from his list, then he would be on it. And with someone so well-regarded throughout the guild as Alaenoria acting as host to this hunt, the prizes had to be high-tier. He could just imagine the prize being something truly magnificent like a chandelier or a fancy bathtub. Those were coming to be in high demand if he ever wanted to complete his collection.

Nearly all of the items on his list had been crossed off. Many of them were things that a blind fool could find, like a blade of grass or a pebble. Others still were quite common to find, although it would help if you had eyes to see them. Then there were those items. The ones that you had to skip events just to find. It had come down to just those items for Gandin. So, despite his insatiable desire to win more things at those events, he opted to just skip them and focus entirely on finishing his list.

"Eye of Newt... Check," he mumbled somewhat enthusiastically as he crossed off yet another item from the list. Most wouldn't be able to tell by looking at him, but he was growing antsy as he saw the number of items he needed diminish before his very eyes. So few remained, yet there was still so much to do to find the rest. He skimmed the last few items, counting no more than twelve, as he attempted to figure out where on his mental map any of them would be, until one of them caught his eye.

"A silver spoon!" he exclaimed in a hushed tone, "I think I know where that is!" He clenched his fist confidently and began marching toward the storage room. There, he remembered seeing something sort of medium-long and shiny that could very well have been a spoon made of silver. If anyone asked, he would tell them he had no idea how he knew it was there. He just knew. Maybe he had seen a picture of the inside. Maybe a guild member told him. Maybe it was Maybelline. In any case, that wasn't important. What was important was that he knew it was there and he knew it was going to get him closer to his reward.

As he trekked the tumultuous venture inward toward the establishment's repository, the small-statured sleuth kept alert to his surroundings, assuring himself that nary a required item would escape unseen. The guild halls bustled with the sound of banter between his fellow guildmates, all blissfully unaware that the dwarf was tantalizingly near to reigning victorious over them all, rubbing his spoils all over their substandard faces. Gandin was constantly in search of proof that he was far superior to the likes of them, and today would be the perfect way to prove it.

At last he had arrived in the deepest, darkest corners of the guild, where most others didn't really wander unless they needed something. Thankfully, the door was usually left open, and Gandin slipped in without a sound. Inside, though, he was met with his greatest fear. The box in which he had believed to see the silver spoon was missing completely. No other box contained such a shining article of cutlery. His face stiffened and his eyebrows shifted at ungodly angles to show how furious he was to find the spoon missing, for there was only one monster wicked enough to prevent him from reaching his goal.

"Curse you, Kin!" he growled vociferously. He didn't care if anyone heard him snooping around the area (only partially because he didn't have any reason to believe he wasn't allowed there in the first place); he would have his revenge. He clenched his fist tightly once again, this time in contempt rather than self-assurance. "You won't get away with this..."

Mumble Dragon

A rogue wind stirred a flyer from it's resting place on the ground, and gently lifted it down the small road that Hawke was traveling. Having seen these types of flyers scattered throughout the city, curiosity drove Hawke to snatch it midair and browse over it's contents. "AHA," he exclaimed. Double checking the print, it seems that he has stumbled across a scavenger hunt flyer. Items littered the page, anywhere from important sounding relics to the asinine utensils. All day Hawke was debating with how to present himself to the members of the Guild. He didn't want to seem like any old bloke and be dismissed without proving himself. Having to go through that would send all of his current progress back to zero, leaving him to start his search entirely over, especially after traveling so far from home.

Having found the flyer, his spirits were at an all time high and nearly sent him into a jig. He didn't have much time left, but he recognized a bunch of the objects as things he has seen littered throughout the town. If he could speed up his search, he could come out victorious and earn the recognition from the townsfolk and earn his way into the guild. After all, what kind of guild would recruit just anyone right off the street. With all the reputation he has heard from his travels, this has to be a top tier, five star rated place. They would take only the best of the best and he was determined to be near the top. Clenching the paper to his chest, he stood fully facing the sunlight, emitting an oath for the world to hear. He would participate in these "festivities" and come out on top in every one. Only that way could he be noticed by the top brass members of the guild.

Eric Whittock

The day was young. Morning sprung into being with the rising of the sun. Brisk air filled the gnome's lungs like a large ship would fill with water if it hit a freak iceberg that suddenly appeared in its path. And therein he could smell that all-familiar smell. It was like warm Root Beer; nectar of the gods; a gift quite unlike any other the gnome could imagine.

But the cool breeze that greeted him as he exited his room was quite low on Eric's list of things to take note of, for outside his room, stapled to the wall, was a flyer that insisted he participate in a contest like no other; contest to rule them all; one to forever hold in the back of your mind even as you participated in all the other festivities that would be happening around the town that day; something so overbearing and inescapable that denying it the pleasure of being fulfilled be an outright crime. It was a Scavenger Hunt!

Like a ravenous vulture biting into its pray, Eric grabbed the flyer off the wall with his teeth and made haste for the location it directed him, moving fast enough that the wind blew the flyer up into his face, allowing him to continue reading it on-the-go. That, of course, wasn't his brightest idea, and he promptly tripped over one of the tables in the guild hall. Without missing a beat, though, he recovered, got back to his feet, began running, and the immediately tripped over the same table again. It was then that he had made one of the most eye-opening realizations of his life: he had forgotten his suntan lotion. Every gnome knows to never leave home without their suntan lotion! He may not be exactly like every other gnome out there, but this was a tradition he just couldn't allow himself to break. So, without further ado, he turned around and made way for his room, once again tripping over the same guild hall table on his way there.

Now confident in his possession of the gnome-approved suntan lotion, Eric was ready to face the day like an arrogant child was ready to face their favorite game. And now knowing that there was a Scavenger Hunt waiting for him to win big, he already had his work cut out for him. Nothing would stand in his way this time! With valor, he marched proudly down the hallways and into the guild hall, careful to ensure that he was following the directions on the flyer correctly. He was to meet up... somewhere.

There, the gnome realized that he hadn't even bothered to read beyond the title of the flyer, where it read "Scavenger Hunt". It turned out that there were more words on the page. And then some on the back, too. It was a list! Of course! Every scavenger hunt had a list of things to scavenge! And what a stroke of luck, too! Eric was great at scavenging things. In fact, that's how he learned about the Guild of Galas'nor in the first place! The list was long, though. Many items were taunting him with their blatant unfound-ness, but Eric wouldn't let them get away with their unruliness any longer! Today it was time to make them more found than they had ever been before! Today he would make history! Or die trying!

In a stupor of boundless determination, the gnome darted off toward the guild hall exit, already knowing where to find the first item on his list. There were no less than three different kinds of rocks for him to find, and lucky for him he knew where exactly in the guild each of these three kinds of rocks were. He would find them and win this Scavenger Hunt once and for all!

But if there was any single thing that stood in his way this day, it was that blasted guild hall table, which he tripped over a fourth time on his way out. 'Surely someone would have thought to move it by now,' he thought

Hours had passed since he began his epic journey to accumulate the largest collection in all the guild. Eric's stockpile now consisted of several tens of specimens of nearly every item on the list. the backpack was growing rather weighty, considering many of the items were his own additions due to the supply of said items being particularly high, but he wouldn't dare to lighten the load by leaving some of it behind. It would break those items' poor hearts.

So far the most difficult item to acquire was surely that ticket with the number 6 printed on it. It wasn't originally on the list, but it was just rare and incredibly valuable that he couldn't help but ensure it had its place on every list he had every made in life. Of all the items he had gathered, this would definitely be the one he wouldn't part with once it was time to cash in all the things. He would allow the host to take a look as proof that he had indeed found it, but if she so much as touched it... The gnome couldn't be held responsible for what he would do.

But clearly on the list there were even more difficult items to find. An entire school was surprisingly difficult for him to locate. Nearby there was a building that he had seen at least one small child enter into at some point in the distant past, but he was sure that was more of a rehabilitation facility than a school. That kid definitely had addiction issues with... toads or something. Eric didn't know. All he knew was that the kid's condition broke his heart. He wanted nothing more than for that child to be cured of his icky toad condition. Didn't he know that toads caused warts? Is that really a risk that youngin' was willing to take? What in the wide world was the next generation coming to? There was nothing but sorrow in the future, he thought. Soon enough everyone would be addicted to toads. And soon there wouldn't be enough toads for everyone. Wars would break out. The world would be reduced to naught but a baron wasteland, fingers of rust reaching out of the ground as a monument to the greed and lust rampant in the youth of the nation. The gnome was happy to be born in his generation where children didn't even know what toad addictions were, but it made him so sad to know that such a affliction was something the children of this generation had been exposed to so early in their life. Their innocence was broken, just like his heart.

Moving on, he still had to find that schoolhouse. And at least nine other mysterious and/or rare items and locations scattered quite convincingly throughout the city. Then, of course, there were the 37 other items he took the liberty of adding to the list of difficult items. Altogether, including the less-difficult-to-find items, he only had 51 things left to find! That meant he was exactly ninety-nine percent of the way to his goal. Aww, yeah, the rest of the guild oughta be jealous of him now.

But where to find all that remained? The unwashed sponge from the cafeteria had apparently been disposed of,and by the looks of it, today was trash day. All he could hope for on that front was for the guild's designated dishwashers to dirty another sponge. He had the staff on it while he searched for the other items.

There was a small chain in the back of one of the guild's toilets that was made of solid bronze that he unfortunately didn't have access to at the moment since it appeared a dwarf or some other somewhat short guildmate was using it at the time. He would retrieve once that guildmate in question had finished relieving himself.

At least two other items were in similar predicaments where he knew where and how to get them, but due to bad timing or other unforeseen circumstances, he simply couldn't get a hold of them until later on. But there was one item on his list that he knew he could find. One item that would surely be one of most exciting things to get his hands on. And the most fun to try and hide from anyone else who might perchance have the same item on their list. O yes, there was nothing that could stop him this time. He was going to find Kin's sword!

"...Keyring...?" Shandon muttered questioningly. Who in their right minds asks for a keyring on a scavenger hunt? He'd been going at the event all day while enjoying a few other activities, but kept having to pause at the request of certain objects. He was not one to stand in the limelight, nor reach out to others verbally, thus the scavenger hunt was the perfect game for him. And though he was by no means the best, he had a good eye for spotting things of interest.

There was only one thing that kept him from truly enjoying the event. Some items were not exactly something he could borrow from a willing person. They'd never relinquish such things. Shandon fought desperately against his only other alternative. Stealing.

Spoiler
Since I haven't fully decided on his appearance yet, I'm keeping this post ambiguous
[close]

A large man could be scene stalking the field on the outskirts of the crowd. So far out that it was completely possible he was out of bounds for the actual main part of the scavenger hunt. All that could be scene from this distance was that he was quite big, and had a whip at his side. He trekked through the area, his posture and mannerisms suggesting he was hunting game of some kind, or tracking prey. Regardless of anything, he certainly didn't seem to fit in with the rest of the guild members out here having fun, so perhaps it was best he was at the outskirts for now.

Alaenoria watched as people brought their stuff. Those who had helped her with handing out the flyers and giving out tickets were here now to help make sure everyone had the listed items. They were huge lists, after all, and going through each person's haul by herself would have taken days. Items that the participants had collected but did not wish to keep were sorted into barrels and crates as they were checked. The rest were given back to the participants who had brought them. She handled double-checking the items that needed her knowledge, such as herbs and magical items that were brought in. Some people had gone overboard with gathering items. A red-headed tigress woman who Alaenoria believed was now a part of the Guild apparently did not know the difference between rocks and it felt like she had brought every loose rock she could fit into her bag. Although the elemental mage considered that a form of cheating, it seemed many other participants had the same idea, so she let it slide this year. Next year, she would have to be more precise. Maybe she would have someone draw each item instead of just writing them down next year.

Once the lists had all been double-checked, Alaenoria went through the list of all those who had found some or all of the ten hardest items. Only one person had found all ten items, and it was a citizen's child. She should have known children would be able to snoop things out. That child probably knew the city inside and out.

"Attention everyone! Thank you for participating in this year's Scavenger Hunt! We have finished calculating our winners and are happy to announce that there were a few ties." Alaenoria called after moving to her little stage to make the announcements.

Unrolling the scroll in her hands, she began to call out the winners.

"Having found one-hundred common items and seven extremely difficult to find items, our third place winners are Callista Fae, Gandin son of Gehin, Hawke Argento, and Shandon Crystalslayer!"

"Having found one-hundred common items and eight extremely difficult to find items, our second place winners are Aion Loucelles and Nyuko Nyun!"

"Having found one-hundred common items and all ten extremely difficult to find items, our first place winner is Raytona Madskell!"

"Congratulations, everyone!"
