Messages - Rei

Forest
NMorning?

"The air smells refreshing~" Rei would say in a strained cheerful voice. Socializing was no ter strong point, but she had gotten to know these individuals a bit and valued their teamwork. The rains had stopped only recently, the air was refreshing but the atmosphere was quite damp. As Rei rode on the wagon, she would scan the area with her eyes as she made small talk with the others.

Rei had been fortunate to have such useful allies. Her usefulness had been mostly limited to their surprise ambush on the scorpions. The hyenas turning things around on them, had shown Rei where some of her own weaknesses were. When Virgil requested her to help with selling the successful hides he had carved, she gladly took the chance.

Combat seemed to be much too fast, for Rei to finish chanting her spell. Even as she had begun to cast the chant, the hyenas attacked viciously. She hadn't really experienced combat before, let alone know when was the best opportunity to cast her spell. One of the hyenas had rushed her, but it clumsily crashed into the side of the wagon. Elidia had taken action then, dismounting the front to aid Rei with the two hyenas which had decided to attack their wagon. Her ice spell was quite effective. She froze one of the hyenas to death and then wounded the other one. The hyena she intended to charm, was wounded and would likely resist the effects of her spell. While Elidia focused on the hyena still alive, Rei would turn her attention to the other wagon and focus her intent upon Hyena #2. She had already started the spell... Might as well finish!

No sooner had the threat from the scorpions ceased, Rei noticed another threat. Hyenas, two at first or so she thought. Two wasn't that big of a deal... but then two more would appear and shake Rei's confidence. Her allies had already been slightly wounded by the battle with the scorpions and barely had enough time to drink potions. Maybe it was the battle, or the corpses of the scorpions that attracted the beasts... Either way, the hyenas had come and split their attention. That was a good thing. One of the horses and Virgil seemed to be the main targets. Elidia began to cast her ice spell to subdue the closest beasts to the wagon.

There was two options for Rei. She could keep  firing her bow while standing in the wagon, or she could attempt to even the field with her favorite spell. Hyenas weren't exactly the type of beasts she preferred, but they were beasts nonetheless. If she could charm one of them, it could turn the favor towards her group's victory. She would turn her attention to hyena number three and began to chant a spell she had never actually gotten to use yet. She was nervous, but excited at the same time! "Abide by love, become mine alone!" she would chant towards the beast, sending her affection to the beast through weird magic.

Line of sight had become a minor issue. One scorpion was down and another was heavily injured. The people had nnearly made it to safety and all that as left... was to clean up the mess. Rei side stepped a few paces to have a better vantage angle around the boulder. She would aim to finish off the second scorpion while it was incapacitated. Just to make sure her party members didnt venture too close to it, believing it was dead. Only to end up with a stinger in their ankle. She'd draw her bow back and let loose another arrow from her bow.

Rei would remain stationary. She had a range advantage against the scorpions. It would take time to readjust if her allies got in her line of sight, but it beat running backwards f the scorpions turned on her instead. Virgil had rushed forward and attempted to get the scorpions' attention to allow the victims to escape. So Rei would snip from afar to aid Virgil. She pulled her bow back again and let lose another arrow. They could tend to the wounds after the immediate danger was over.

Rei would follow behind Eldia, they were headed in the direction of the screams. When they came closer, they found the people unde attack by a large scorpion- to which Eldia immediately cast a spell. Rei too would loose her own ranged attack as she drew her bow and fired an arrow at the same scoprion.

Outside Thalia Village
Daytime

The festivities were surely a highlight in the surrounding lands. Between the goddess and her familia, even the common people were interested in what Thalia's familia was hosting. It was a festival for an exodus, a change in their lives. Would it be a temporary visit, or a permanent stay? It just depending on what Thalia-sama wished.

Of course not all the attention to the festival was a good thing. The fact that people were coming regularly and from all around, meant there were opportunities as well. Good opportunities... and bad ones. Whether bandits looking to fill their coin purse. Or wild beasts looking to fill their bellies. Not everyone in the land was capable of fending off such aggressive attacks. The act of patrols in itself, was to discourage both man and beast from hunting the common traveling routes. The sight of humans, the smell of humans. Both acted as a deterrent to the would-be attackers, for whatever their reasons. Knowing was half the battle. The other half, well... That was real battle.

Rei had agreed to take part in this endeavor, although she sincerely hoped that nothing bad would happen. She simply just wanted the chance outside of the village and to spot any monsters. How she loved monsters. Preferably not being eaten of course, but that was sometimes the way of things. She and two other companions had taken up the mage's request, to allow the young woman to focus on preparations for the village festival. It was a good break for Rei as well, for having to pour her face over old dusty maps. The act of going out and witnessing some of the landscape itself, to re-verify what the maps showed, was good for her. She had been sitting in the back of the wagon, quietly, watching out the back as the horse pulled it along. It was quiet for the longest time, then there was a loud scream. It wasn't that of an excited and innocent child, as the horse itself turned its ears downward, wary of the danger it sensed. It was the type of scream that could temporarily freeze the blood of an adventurer when they knew something was not right. "That sounded kind of close..." she would say, standing up and preparing to move from the wagon if necessary.

Outside Thalia Village
Evening

At first, Rei wasn't certain how things would turn out. Her and her familia had taken several precautions. Digging a pitfall trap, covering it, choosing two to lead the boar... and several more to ambush it. By the time the boar had neared the hole, things seemed like they would fall apart. Then, it happened. The boar reached the hole and fell in with a violent squeal of objection. It was followed by more squeals, this time of pain as the boar was pierced by a couple of the sharpened sticks in the bottom of the hole.

Several of their team had taken to attacking. Someone was shooting spells, others were throwing their weapons like spears and axes. Rei took up her bow and fired off an arrow at the boar trapped in the hole. Surely it couldn't get out of the deep hole, but Rei wanted to be sure that no one would get hurt in this venture. She aimed at the boar's left eye as it stared up at her party with rage. She'd let loose an arrow after pulling it all the way back and taking careful aim. "Now that it's in the hole, let's finish it off!"~ she would say, encouraging her party even though several of their attacks had missed.

Thalia Village
Daytime

Sneaking up on a boar was more difficult than Rei had anticipated. As they neared it, it sensed them. Maybe it was their footsteps...Or their scent. Possibly the wind had blown their scent downwind and straight to the boar. Whatever the case was, it knew they were there and it did not appreciate being hunted! It immediately went on the attack, bashing through small trees and bushes as it charged at them. Both of the hunters knew it was a bad idea to try and fight the beast in their environment... plus they already had several other hunters and a trap. Maybe the two looked at each other and silently agreed to... RUN!

It was early in the run that the boar gained a lead. Rei's partner ran ahead, as Rei seemed to stumble briefly. That was when the boar made brief contact with her. It swiped its head sideways and its tusks barely grazed Rei's armor, but with enough force to send her flying a little ways. She quickly regained her footing. The adrenaline of the rush got her lungs pumping as she ran at full speed. She quickly out-paced the boar and then her ally. She made it back to the trap first and around the pit and waited on the other side as Tella was almost there. She pulled out her bow as she waited for the boar to reach the hole and fall in. Once inside, she would attempt to shoot it with her bow.
