Age of Ashes / Chapter 03 - The Vaults of Altaerein
July 07, 2021, 09:41:37 PM
11:00 am the next day

Late the next morning, Alak seeks your group out. "I see you all made it back from the woods alive." He says, with a smirk. "Well, my investigations of the keep didn't turn up much in my own quest. I think the best place to look for my family ring would be down in the vaults. The library was a mess, most of the books that were left behind had rotted but I found some information that would seem to corroborate the goblin's information about the keep. The main stairs down to the vaults have collapsed but with enough time and effort they can probably be cleared. What's odd is that there is mention of the stairs going deeper down from the vault but no information about what lies down there. I'm not sure if this was intentionally hidden or if it was simply lost to time and mildew." Continues the armiger with a shrug. "Regardless of what lies down there, we will need to go down into the vaults to see what is going on I think. I considered doing some reconnaissance but uh..." At this he made a gesture with his gauntlet that emphasized the squeaks and clanks of his plate armor. "I don't think I could do that particularly quietly."

The Great Dreamhouse - 4:45 am

You arrive at the Great Dreamhouse just before dawn, an important time as it will soon be the family's first dawn absent the deceased. There you are greeted by an elf in verdant green robes.  "Hello there, I judge by your apparel that you are the cleric of Sarenrae that has been heroically aiding our town. I am Kellen Carondil, priest to Desna and keeper of this temple. What brings you here?"

The three of you stand in front of the the door to the VIP room of the Old Combat Zone nightclub XH had taken you all to. Less than an hour ago he had shown up in his tuned up car on your doorsteps with a job that he thought he might need some help with. He apparently got the lead from one of his fixers but said they were a bit vague on the details. Now, one quick ride later, the three of you find yourselves in the back hallway of a nightclub called Elektro having just shown up at VIP room number 3 from which you can hear yelling and the sound of breaking glass under the pounding digital beats of the club's DJ. XH makes a sideways look at the two of you. "Sounds like a party."

XH is a Nomad from the Flying Buddhas family. He's mostly been getting by moving goods both for the family and as side jobs but he's not some pushover. Even the delivery boys in Night City need to be well armed and able to handle a gun after all. He doesn't like to walk, that's what his modded car is for, but when he does he struts in his family leather armorjack and armored riding leathers, mirror shades and his cyberarm glinting in the neon lights.

Age of Ashes / Chapter 02 - Into the Keep
June 03, 2020, 08:11:52 PM
 5:00 pm - Hellkniight Hill

While Citadel Alatarerein is only about a mile northeast from the town as the crow flies, the road to the old fortress takes a wide berth around the hill it is built upon to eventually turn west and takes almost an hour to arrive.  The fortress isn't built on the absolute top of the hill, a large rocky spire instead occupies this position and peeks out from behind the citadel which stands before you.  The citadel is a single stonemason building some 20 feet tall with battlements ascending an additional 10 feet above the two wings on either side and before you.  Narrow arrow slits line the walls ten feet above ground level and thickly overgrown thorned brambles creep along the base of the building's walls to occupy the ground within 10 feet of the walls except for the packed dirt road that leads up to the front door which sits slightly ajar.

Your attention is drawn to the red smoke that you have been able to see since you got beyond Breachill's walls and can now tell is coming from a source up on the battlements.  Unfortunately from your current angle, it's hard to see past the merlons to tell what the source of the smoke is.

Age of Ashes / Chapter 01 - The Call for Heroes
April 15, 2020, 08:01:21 AM
It is the day of Breachill's monthly call for heroes and a sunny summer's day warms monument circle as a small crowd mills about, waiting before the double doors to the main entrance to Breachill's town hall. Some stand around the covered wells for some shade and fresh water while they wait, others stand closer to the doors, chatting and gossiping. The crowd is mostly human with a mix of the other common races of Isger save for a rather notable goblin dressed in the regalia of an academic and nervously pacing back and forth before the doors of the hall.

[info]Feel free to state anything you might have done for the morning or how you might have come into town. You are free to interact with the people gathered for the call for heroes or just pass your time waiting for the doors to open. [/info]

April 08, 2020, 04:12:03 PM
The Town of Breachill

Population: Approximately 1300, slim majority human
Leadership: Democratically elected town council

The town of Breachill was founded almost 170 years ago when a band of humans found themselves lost in the wilds of Isger with no memory of who they were or how they got there.  The band of survivors had no memory of even their skills or crafts and quickly became desperate as their helplessness became apparent. Fortunately these amnesiacs were saved by the adventuring wizard Lamond Breachton, for whom the town is named, when he came through the crude settlement and used his adventuring fortune to turn it into a proper town.

Points of Interest

1: Breechill Archives: The history of the town and its inhabitants have been quite well kept thanks to the town archives.

2: Breach Creek Lumber: The forests around Breachill are dense and old, perfect for harvesting quality lumber for construction and export. The dangers of the forests often sees adventurers hired to clear out the beasts and other hazards to allow for logging expeditions.

3: Breachill Town Hall: The town hall has a large meeting hall for conducting all of the town's municipal functions as well as offices for all the administrative workers.

4: Cayden's Keg: One of the more popular taverns, Cayden's Keg supplies a warm welcome to any adventurers that stop by in honor of the Drunken God for which it's named.

5: Crimson Wood Furs: The finest tailor and pelt trader in town.

6: The Great Dreamhouse: A temple to Desna with beautiful indoor gardens, The Great Dreamhouse offers peaceful lodgings to any travelers and provides healing for the wounded.

7: Lamonds Lament: A soup kitchen for the down and out of the town located in the poorer section of Breachill

8: Monument Circle: The town's primary water wells circle a brinze statue of the town's savior: Lamond Breachton

9: Morta's Mortuary: The town's mortuary, better known for it's eccentric and gossipy mortician (Morta Valashin)

10: The Pickled Ear: A bar with a rougher clientele known for its frequent brawls. Frequented by surly regulars and hardscrabble adventurers.

11: Posandi Brothers: The town's primary masons have been the titular Posandis for generations and the clan has some influence throughout the town including a cousin on the town council.

12: Quarters and Bits: A general store and smithy that is able to provide most of the gear any fresh adventurers might need

13: Reliant Book Company: This bookstore has plenty of academic tomes for those looking for obscure histories and curious notes from adventurers long dead

14: Shelyn's Smile: The guildhouse for Breachill's artisans and impromptu worship center for the goddess of art is a place where anyone looking to renovate their homes can come to find the right tradesman for their needs.

15: Tuskhead Stoneworking: A new stonemason in town that rivals the Posandi Brothers just across the river. Known for importing their stone from the finest quarries and floating the stone directly from Breech Creek into their workshop.

16: Vusker's Carts and Wheels: The primary wainwright of the town, the gruff owner is known for keeping an ear to the local bandit problems whenever they start to harass the caravans that serve as his primary clients.

17: Wizard's Grace: Located right next to the town hall, this tavern is a watering hole for the town's clerks and guards making it a great place for any adventurers to learn gossip and information regarding the monthly call to heroes.

Side Threads / A Hero's Sendoff
March 11, 2020, 09:08:37 PM
"Another bottle!" Requested Thedrin as he leaned back into the bench at the back corner of the tavern, his third bottle of wine freshly empty in front of him. "So there I was, locked in mortal combat with the little devil." He said, setting the bottle back down and hooking his arm back around the waist of one of the village girls sitting at his side. "We exchanged blow for blow but I had the upper hand. The little beast struck but my mighty constitution could shrug off the blow. I stared the creature right in the eye." At this he stared deeply into the eyes of the girl on his left and she blushed at the attention.
"Pretty sure Aye saw ye get stabbed in the leg then miss with ye 'ammer." Heckled a villager. The girl on Thedrin's other arm giggled at this. He shot the heckler a look before turning to the girl on his right. "Oh, that may be true but the the most important kill, that of their leader, goes to me. Besides, were it not for my fortitude and... stamina..." at this he pulled the giggling girl closer as she gave him a mischievous grin. "then the creatures would have surely overrun the other defenders." The village girl in his left pressed into his other arm with a pout at his attentions being directed elsewhere and pulled his hand a little lower. "How did you kill the leader?" She implored, resting a hand on Thedrin's lap. "In a single blow with my warhammer if course." "'E was limping already from an arrow from what Aye saw." Added the heckler once again. "A wounded foe is no less dangerous." Replied Thedrin, getting used to the heckling. His fresh bottle of wine arrived and his arms occupied, he slipped his tail out to pour himself a drink much to the surprised squeal of the girl on his right. "Your tail! It moves!" Thedrin lifted the cup with his tail for a sip before offering it to the girl. "Oh, it does more than just move." At this the girl timidly sipped from the offered cup, blushing at the implications. He let his tail slither a little further to brush the girls cheek, causing her to giggle and bury her head in his chest. Seeing the girl on his left getting even more jealous, Thedrin snaked his tail to brush the small of her back and whispered in her ear. "I can show you some tricks." He said, before moving in to kiss the now crimson faced girl. Of course, before he could make contact, the barkeep dropped a bucket of water on his table with a hefty thud. "Look Ashewake, you either need to cool yer head or leave. This is a proper establishment so don't make me douse these embers." Thedrin, seeing the finality in the the beekeep's ultimatum stood up, bottle in tail. "Well girls, it seems I need to leave. Either of you care to join me?" To his surprise, both stood to take an arm and the three of them made their way out of the tavern. One loud and stumbling journey back to his uncle's manor and Thedrin was back in bed with the night's company.

The next morning the sun's rays creeped over the horizon and into Thedrin's room, causing him to stir. He creaked open an eye to look down at the naked girls clinging to his equally naked body and nestled his head back into his pillow with a grin. He hadn't had a night with a woman since he was thrown out of Albion so he was feeling quite content to go bank to sleep in his soft sheets. He had brought the bed and with him all the way from Albion, a luxury he couldn't live too long without. Just as he was about to drift back off to sleep though a loud rap on the door was heard. "Thedrin!" was shouted and followed quickly by his uncle opening the door wide. This startled Thedrin and the girls who shrieked with embarrassment and tried to pull the linens to cover them both but their tug of war lead to them both failing. "Oh! Sorry girls! I didn't think you would be so uh... at a disadvantage." Exclaimed Thedrin's uncle as he pulled the door half shut. "Anyways, Thedrin it's time to get up, you're traveling to Aite-Aerd remember? I'm pretty sure you didn't pack last night." Thedrin, wide eyed from the shock of his uncle's entrance coughed. "Ah right uh... I'll get ready. If you could just... give us some privacy?" His uncle nodded and closed the door. "Well girls, it's time for me to make my preparations." He said as he began to slip out of the bed. "Do you have to go?" Asked one of the girls. "Why of course. But don't worry, I'll come back at ther head of an army from the Righ." He's said, leaning back towards the bed to kiss the girl. Now... could you help me pack? If we hurry we might have time for... a sendoff... At this the girls giggled and helped him pack, giving them time for one quick last diversion before they finally emerged from the room. As they met up with Bregan downstairs to set out for the town his uncle whispered with a grin and knowing smile to his passing nephew. "Not too rustic after all I guess." Which Thedrin responded top by trying to look anywhere else as they took their leave.

Characters / Thedrin Ashewake
February 05, 2020, 11:56:59 AM

Height: 6'
Weight: 175 lbs
Age: 27
Race: Tiefling (Demon)

Appearance
Thedrin stands at a respectable height with a well toned and muscled frame, his head always turned ever so slightly skyward so that his eyes that glimmer like golden pools can look down at his lessers.  His skin is normally fair but his time in the town of Telan has burnished it to a decent tan from the time spent outdoors.  Besides the eyes, his demonic heritage is made known through fine smooth red scales that accentuate his features at his neck, shoulders, and hips, and most remarkably through the twin horns sprouting from his forehead and the long thin tail emerging just above his buttocks.  He tends to keep this last feature wrapped around his waist to keep it out of the way but is not opposed to its use as another natural appendage, finding the discomfort of the common folk to simply be due to a lack of proper culture and education.

As far as dress goes, he tries to wear the finest clothes he can manage in any given situation.  Ideally an imperial blue or vermilion with a gold trim but as the fund he left Albion with has dwindled, he has tried to make due with simpler garb.  Well fitted leather pants and a white silk shirt under a doublet is mostly what he has turned to in his exile.

Personality
Thedrin is of noble birth and he makes sure all around him know that.  Despite his lack of title, inheritance, wealth, lands, merits, or fame he still demands the respect that one of such noble birth as his own should, in his eyes at least, deserve.  Any who lack a proper lineage are beneath him and meant to serve their great and mighty protectors: the nobility.  Their pitiable lives will support him as he defends them against the horrors of the uncivilized wilds.  As they say: noblesse oblige!

Biography
A barren wife, a desperate house, a demonic pact, a moment of love and lust, these were the circumstances of Thedrin's birth.  Not the most outlandish tale among the aristocracy of Albion, a place where money and power allow even those untalented in the arcane arts access to the gifts of magic.  Of course, as with all demonic deals, there was a downside to the house of Ashewake's gambit to ensure the survival of their lineage.  Gifted with twins, one was the obvious successor: hansom, smart, obedient.  The other was cursed with the proof of the house's pact: crimson horns, a lashing tail, and eyes like gold, hardly the makings of a lord.  Thus they were set aside, perhaps useful later to form an alliance through marriage or some other non-inheriting sons uses.

Eventually, Thedrin was arranged to have a knighthood when his strength and blessed might became known and he was further trained in the martial ways as he grew into a young man.  And then the family's great plans came crashing off a bridge and into the river.  Scandal, whispered throughout the upper echelons of Albion's like a fuse tracing its way to the powder keg, came to the house of Ashewake.  Sure, a noble's son traipsing around a brothel or ten was hardly a scandal, after all what else would a horny young man waiting in line for succession do with all their money and time?  But they often knew to keep their dalliances to the professional class and not in the bedchamber of a duke's daughter.  And the gall of that second son to strike a higher noble in the process of escaping the manor.  Exile to a foreign land and loss of any claim to their inheritance was the least they could do to make up for such a black mark.  Maybe distant uncle Bregan in Thuinich could help.  He has a manor in some town called Telan where he raised horses as a hobby.  Someone, specifically someone who might have dishonored the daughter of a duke, could go look after the property as a favor to their dear uncle to make this problem go far away, as far as Telan you could say.

Beyond Billions / Part 1: Rude Awakening
November 15, 2019, 01:27:03 PM
You open your eyes to the cramped, dimly lit interior of an unfamiliar place.  The weightless sensation of space was in no way unfamiliar but something was off.  Your body feels...  different... like wearing a shirt that had been freshly starched even though it was clearly not recommended laundering for that particular article of clothing.  The sensation of a fresh sleeve in a new morph.  The last thing you remember: recieving activation orders from Firewall and instructions from your new proxy, someone going by the handle Jetz, to backup your ego and transmit your morph specs. Then, after packing some supplies and leaning back into the ego bridge you opened your eyes to...  whatever this is.

"Kiiyaaaa!"  Squealed Yuki as the tincture splashed across her chest, her arms raised at her sides in a vain attempt to prevent the oily liquid from slathering her.  "Oh no..."  She said, looking down at the mess made of her exceedingly low cut kimono and bountiful cleavage.  She looked up at the traveling merchant with tears welling up in the corner of her eyes.  "I'm so sorry mister merchant.  I know you wanted that virility tonic but...  but..."  She sniffled and covered her face.  "But now I've gone and made such a mess.  And that was my last secret family formulation."  She looked up at the boaz merchant with the gaze of a kicked puppy.  "I'm so sorry.  Here, I have something else to make up for it."  She reached behind the stall's counter and pulled out an exquisite decanter.  "It's fresh snake oil from some of the forest's most dangerous serpents.  My grandmother uses it for her sore joints.  Poor grandmother...  Bedridden and weak...  It's the only way she can get up to visit grandpa's grave.  I'll give it to you at a discount... please, as my apology for messing up.  Only 5000 vals."  She said as she offered the decanter to the merchant, her arms outstretched in front of her and pressing her oiled breasts together.  "Oh uh... yes... no problem miss..."  Said the merchant as he tried his best to take the decanter without staring too much at the much younger girl's conspicuous chest.  He nervously set the cash down on the counter and turned to take his leave with a relieved sigh.

Yuki's expression of desperate exasperation change on a dime to a sly grin as she reached to gather up the vals.  A hand, appearing out of nowhere like a sweet oasis appearing in a heat haze, slapped her away.  Yuki looked up to see her grandmother appear out of thin air with that inscrutably stern look that had been there since long before Yuki had ever been born.  "Sloppy!  You think you can catch a mark like that in the big city?"  Said the old amazoness as she took a cut of the profits.  "You should have slipped a full nipple there and displayed a pitiful maiden dishonored by a stranger.  The boaz are often stern and have a sense of honor that is easily appealed to.  I can't believe you think you'll cut it in the city like this."  Yuki sighed at her elder's castigation.  "It worked didn't it?  Aren't you the one that said that only success matters?"  Her grandmother clicked her tongue at her defense.  "That was a lesson for a child.  A true kunoichi knows that the only true victory is a flawless one.  Now clean yourself up.  There's another caravan that just got here and is watering their pack animals."  Yuki sighed and rolled her eyes before slapping her cheeks and putting on her game face once again, her grandmother once again vanishing into thin air.

Familia Registry (Characters) / Yuki Kanade
September 06, 2019, 08:36:32 PM
Yuki Kanade

Age: 17, Weight: 125 lbs, Height: 5' 8", Race: Amazoness

Appearance
Darkly tanned skin, white hair and blue eyes, toned athletic build with a generous chest, these are the features that first strike anyone that first meets Yuki Kanade.  She wears a revealingly cut outfit for the dual purpose of reducing the amount of noise she makes while moving but also to display as much of her sensual assets as possible.  She normally wears little in the way of adornments except for a headband with decorative horns that peaks up out of her hair.  She wears her katana and wakizashi across the back of her waist but also keeps other weapons hidden away through a well guarded family secret.

Personality
Yuki's personality is one of seduction and playfulness at least outwardly.  Truely though Yuki is careful, calculating, and reserved but also easily bored and quickly moves on from one hobby to another outside of "work".  Her outward personality was trained into her by her family, one that would be vital in deceiving enemies and luring men and ever since she has kept this mask up in front of all the other villagers.  She does what she needs to in order to maintain the guise of a team player but always makes sure to look out for Thalia and herself first in that order.  Everything after that?  Cash money baby.  With a taste for fine food and comforts that her strict upbringing had tried to stamp out, Yuki is always looking for more and is ready to sample all the luxuries of the big city, glad to finally be free of her ancient grandmother' rule of the mansion.

Biography
Every familia has its assassins and operatives and any god that denies this is either too poor to afford them or lying.  The happy-go-lucky Thalia is no exception to this rule.  Long ago a kunoichi Amazon from the far east drifted into town with her three daughters, just babes at the time, and in the forest, deep enough to avoid too many visitors but near enough to be only a quick walk to the village, the Kanade clan built their ninja mansion.  They joined the familia and worked to refine their deadly craft in the sunny village's meager shadows.  They are, of course, well trained in the martial arts and a warrior's spirit burns in their blood like any amazoness but beyond slaying the occasional wandering monster there isn't much for them to do so they have busied themselves with other hobbies besides the family ninjutsu: alchemy, fishing, even writing and gossip much like the other villagers...  but word has spread that Thalia is planning to leave the village and head for Orario where they will face the trials of the big city.  Enemies might lurk around every corner, foes will need to be ambushed, defamers will need to be silenced, perfect work for a ninja.

Yuki Kanade is the second daughter of the amazoness clan's most recent generation.  Named for her white hair and blue eyes, she was never the best at any one ninja skill like most of her family but instead kept her repertoire of skills broad.  Whether on purpose or from boredom it was this that actually led her grandmother to make the call and appoint her to leave the village with Thalia, deciding that to enter the unknown would require flexibility rather than specialty.  So she was given her orders: go with Thalia, protect the familia, blaze a trail for the clan, and finally find a worthy husband (or at least bear a strong child).  The family lineage has to continue after all and where better to find a strong man than an entire city of them.  Yuki for her part was just glad to get out of the sticks, having long since grown bored of the life of a rural ninja.  The second she got the order she began to prepare for the journey and dreamed dreams of silken kimono, sugary sweets, and piles and piles of Vals to sleep on like some hording dragon.

Jean shielded his face from the biting wind making its way into the outpost and hefted the backpack of equipment that Lili had gathered for him.  Turning back he stood in front of Ren and Telamon.  "Take care and behave yourself."  He said to Ren with a hug and a kiss of her neck.  He slid his head up to nip at her ear and whispered softly.  "I'll miss you too."  Withdrawing he sidestepped to Telamon.  "And you too.  Keep an eye out."  He said with a hug and a deep kiss.  "Especially on the priests."  He said as he pulled away from her.

Turning back to the windy doorway he nodded to Dalina and Lili and shepherded them out into the storm.  He looked to Viridio on their perch on his shoulder.  "I guess you're up Viridio."  After Viridio transformed Jean watched and spoke to Dalina, his voice raised to overcome the sound of the wind.  "You mind driving?  I'm not really sure how to ride Viridio.  I've never really rode...  Well anything but a bicycle."

Tales From the End of the Bar / [Side Job] Young Blood
February 26, 2019, 12:52:55 PM
August 5th, Wednesday, 5:07 pm

A message pings on your comlink.  The sender: Asrian Talshra.  His claim to fame: being the local leader of the Ancient's home chapter.  Someone that you know well.

QuoteAsrian: Hey Zephyr, I have a problem I need your help with.  Do a buddy a favor?  It pays.  I'm at Anarchy's Reign in my usual private room in back.

He was referring to the bar that acts as one of the gang's money laundering operations and the big meetup point for the gangers.  Asrian often uses it as one of his places to hold court when he isn't directly working business.

Tales From the End of the Bar / [Side Job] Fire and Steel
February 20, 2019, 04:45:41 PM
July 31st, Friday, 11:12 am

Your comlink buzzes with a notification.  Looking at the screen you see a message from Samantha Gallway: leader of the Steel Sentinels.

QuoteSamantha:  Hey Valkyrie, you looking for some quick yen?  I have some work that needs to be done.  Come to the Citadel and look for me.  Tell anyone you come across that you're looking to see me about some new ware.

You know the location well, the Sentinels don't make much of a secret of their main base of operations.  Her special request was something out of the ordinary though.

Frenemies and Shitholes / [Location] The Citadel
February 20, 2019, 04:43:30 PM
The Citadel is the headquarters for the Steel Sentinels.  Despite the name, its not much of a castle.  Once, it was a shipping facility but now it's another abandoned corp facility in the northeast barrens.  The Steel Sentinels moved in, initially just using it as a storehouse for their goods but now use it as the center of their operations.  Plenty of gangers around at all times working on whatever new shiny project they can afford, the Citadel also has plenty of autonomous defenses.  Impromptu vehicle bays and a cyberware clinic make this location rather often frequented by non-gang members looking for whatever upgrades they need done, be it a new slick ride, a custom drone, or shedding that silly meat.

Days Gone By / Downtime Stuff
January 23, 2019, 09:57:17 AM
Downtime
This is where you can post the activities you plan on doing during your character's downtime.  Any activities you do here will run their course during any free time your character has.  If they are interrupted by a job or something significant they will be put on pause and resumed when you next have free time to spend on them.  Edge refreshes completely the day after you finish a job.  Edge may be spent on downtime activities but any edge spent on downtime activities will not be refreshed until the start of your next main run.
Your lifestyle expenditures are due at the start of the month.  Failure to pay them knocks you down to the highest possible lifestyle you can afford and nets you 1 Public Awareness and 1 Notoriety (it doesn't look good on your rep when you can't manage your own money).  You also lose possession of anything that was tied to your previous lifestyle (Fake SINs/Licenses, Magical Lodge, any guns/equipment you can't fit in your car, etc).

Special activities

Networking
You can network to unlock additional contacts from the starting contacts list (an other contacts when you know some), doing so is a CHA+Etiquette extended test with an interval of 1 day and a threshold equal to the Connection rating of the desired contact.  You can also ask one of your contacts to do this for you and they will do the networking with a bonus or penalty depending on their relationship with the contact they are trying to get you into contact with.  Most contacts can't/won't network you with enemies/rivals.

Side Jobs

If you know a contact with the Side Jobs specialty you can work with them to net you some extra nuyen in between major jobs.  Depending on who you work for and how long you work with them will determine how much money you make.  This will entail a test of some kind and success will net you some additional cash.  These will not pay a whole lot of money but can supplement your income and work you towards increasing you contact's Loyalty.  Taking side jobs with rivals/enemies can potentially harm your relationship with other contacts.

Laying Low
Higher public awareness will make you a less desirable contract and may get you into trouble with the local authorities and corps.  To get the heat off your character there are two things you can do.  First, you can burn 2 points of Street Cred to instantly lower your public awareness by 1.  Alternatively, you can Lay Low.  Laying low is considered taking any amount of time without taking on any work (side jobs included, free RP stuff will depend on how flamboyant your activities are).  Laying low for a period of weeks equal to your current Public Awareness score will decrease it by 1 (e.g. If your current Public Awareness is 3, you need to lay low for 3 weeks to decrease it  to 2.)  For the purposes of this mechanic, jobs are considered anything that earns you Money or Karma.  This process can be sped up  if you happen to know someone with a Safe House that you can crash in and disappear into for a while.  Your primary lifestyle can't be a Safe House (Even if you live in a Bolt Hole as in Run Faster, see Bolt Hole, Run Faster p 216 for rules on having a Safe House of your very own).  A Safe House reduces the amount of time needed to Lay Low to decrease your public awareness by 1 week (to a minimum of 1 week)

Other Stuff
Want to do something else not covered?  Go for it in the Free RP section.  If it elevates itself to full mission status then it will get moved around.  If it just takes a lot of time/effort it will just put a pause on your downtime activities for its duration.
#23
Multiple Layers of Armor
Characters wearing more than one piece of armor gain an armor bonus equal to half of the rating of all outer layers beyond their base layer of armor (round up) but counts as its full armor value for the purposes of calculating total bonus armor.  This will incur a penalty to AGI and REA as normal (-1 penalty for every 2 bonus armor higher than STR).  Custom Fit armor (See Run and Gun p59) can't be worn as anything other than a bottom layer unless it and every layer below it has the Custom Fit (Stack) quality.  Pieces of armor designed specifically to be worn under your base layer such as Second Skin behave normally.
Special armor upgrades apply only to layers below them.  So the Fire Resistance on a lined coat does not apply to an armored vest worn over it but will apply to the wearer and anything worn beneath it.
In most cases wearing multiple layers of armor will be visibly bulky and obvious to the casual observer and may incur additional in-game hassles (It's hard to hide stuff under a Lined Coat if you're also wearing an armored vest under there already).

Example1: Sammy is wearing and Urban Explorer Jumpsuit (Armor 9) and has a set of Armored Clothes (Armor +3, counts as +6) over it.  He has a total armor pool from these items of 12 and he has a STR of 4 so he takes a -1 penalty to AGI and REA (total armor bonus of +6 - STR 4 = 2).

Example 2: Trog is wearing an Armored Jacket (Armor 12) but decides to add an Armored Vest (Armor +5, counts as +9) over it.  He has a total armor pool of 17 and he has a STR of 8 so he takes no penalty to his AGI or REA (total armor bonus of +9 - STR 8 = 1, only full multiples of 2 apply encumbrance).

Portland Campaign / Episode 1 [All] - Reach for the Sky
October 26, 2018, 05:30:26 PM
July 2076, Tuesday 10:00 PM

It's been a hot start to the week in Cara'Sir, unusually warm and humid for the city.  By this time in the evening its been a while since the sun has set but yet still the air lingers with heat and sticky humidity.  You are all about your usual evening activities passing time when you get a matrix message from Steve Roderick.

QuoteSteve: Yo listen I got a job lined up shit is big-time Johnson got a room at the DMZ get here ASAP

The DMZ, the most well known runner bar in the capitol and a job is a big step up from what work, if any, you've been doing recently.  Steve might be right, this just might be the big leagues.  You know where to go, every runner in town big or small knows the place.

Frenemies and Shitholes / [Location] Troll Town
October 22, 2018, 01:08:19 AM
An old nickname for Portland was the city of bridges.  With the revamping of the city as it became the capitol, one large project decided to embrace this name and set about building a gigantic crossing that would span the Willamette and bridge the downtown East and West banks.  The project was a great success and the so-called Crossing district is a trendy shopping and business locale.  Of course, the gigantic river-spanning superstructure casts a dark shadow over the banks below and it was in this that Troll Town was born.  Named because of the old tales of the habitats of trolls and because of the general population of the area bending towards non-elven metahumans, Troll Town is a refuge for the SINless in the middle of the capitol.  The constabulary occasionally sweeps through the area when the denizens make too much of a scene but otherwise take the position of "out of sight, out of mind" and as long as Troll Town stays in the darkness under the Crossing District, they leave it be.
As such Troll Town, once a mere homeless camp, now is a sizeable shantytown reaching almost up to the belly of the massive superstructure above and spreading out into the river on stilts and floats.  Troll Town is a dense warren and a common place for runners to duck into to hide from the police or other security forces.  Even if their pursuers continue into Troll Town, they are often easy to lose in the seemingly endless maze of makeshift walkways which may or may not give out underfoot and lead to a sudden impromptu swim in the river at best, and a ten meter fall into rusty scrap at worst.

Frenemies and Shitholes / [Location] The DMZ
October 21, 2018, 03:02:55 PM
The city's biggest and most famous runner bar: The DMZ, is conveniently located across the street from one of the main entrances to the Night Market.  The big hitters like to hang out in the numerous private rooms with clients or co-workers where they don't need to deal with the wannabes that crowd the main room vying for attention and introductions.  The bar is run by an Elf that goes by the street name The General.  Word is the name comes from him being a high ranking military officer that commanded Tir Ghosts and gave up the life when he got tired of the game but as with many street names, this is unconfirmed.  The General doesn't seem to interact much with the newcomers beyond slinging them a drink and the town's shadow traditions dictate that you haven't made it in the business until he actually says your name.
The General takes a very light touch with the security of his bar, instead relying mostly on the fact that starting shit in his bar will see someone blacklisted by most local fixers and the fact that he has the backup of a handful of runners that might be at the bar in any given hour.  Because of this, he lets everyone keep their guns and relies on the old MAD strategy of making sure that if the shit goes down, everyone gets a new bullet scar to remember the occasion.
#27
Straddling the line between barrens and downtown, the Loyd Center Mall became a focal point for the illicit as the city developed into its modern incarnation.  Abandoned by legitimate businesses, the "Night Market" is a big location for black market operations and small-time benign stalls.  The mall, and its immediate vicinity are a kind of informal neutral zone where gangs and crime syndicates are supposed to operate without fighting.  This stemmed from necessity as the more fights that broke out, the more likely the constabulary was to sweep the area and put a damper on everyone's fun.  There is just about always some number of stalls open at any given time but as the name would imply, most of the business happens when the sun goes down.  The area around the mall itself is also the local nidus for shadowrunner activity with many runner bars and clubs  packing the area and offering private rooms to conduct business with a johnson.  A great place to grab a bite to eat, a gun to shoot, and a trid to waste some time before heading into the city proper for a job.
The mall's unique location so close to downtown has seen it become a popular location not just among the criminal elements of the city but with the more well-to-do SINners as well.  The area around the mall is home to many bars and clubs which are frequented as much by corp kids looking for a taste of danger as they are by the SINnless population.  The criminal armistice in the area usually keeps these clubbers and ganger wannabes from getting their skulls caved and the local clubs and bars are more than happy to take their nuyen.

《Chapter 7.5: The Definition of Insanity》
"Hurk!"  Jean grunted as his back struck the stone pillar sideways, hyper-extending as his arms and legs continue on past before their momentum dwindled and he fell onto his side.  He panted and propped himself up by his elbows as he tried to catch the wind knocked out of him by the blow.  He staggered up to his feet and faced Rem and the tentacles surrounding her.  When he told her and the tentacles to show no mercy, he hadn't expected them to be quite so merciless.
He was strong, probably stronger than Rem and any individual tentacle, yet he had never been in a fight in his life and he had purposefully made himself outnumbered.  He had worked hard to avoid the bullies of his school and never dreamed of intervening in their torment of those that caught their malicious gaze.  His strategy had worked brilliantly and served him well.  But he was no longer in that world and memories of the cost of this tactic relived themselves constantly in his mind.  His dark master's punishments were hot and fresh like so much roasted flesh and while the nigh-endless brutality had given him a surprising sensitivity to the pleasures of being alive, he was not eager to return to the the sunken city.
"Are you hurt master?"  Rem inquired as she looked from among the tentacles.  Jean took a deep breath.  Despite the tingling pleasure he felt with every blow, his body was still damaged with every strike and getting the wind knocked out of him still left his gasping as it did when he was a normal human being.  He exhaled and then took yet another deep breath before responding.  "Yup!  But that's the point!  C'mon give me another!"  He roared with joy as he flung himself at Rem and the tentacles once again.  Again, he was thrown into the pillar.  Again, he crumpled to the floor.  Again, rallied his increasingly battered body.  Again, he charged.

[info]So, venturing into unknown territory since no one else has done any training yet (I think) to use as a model.

Trying to train Improved Unarmed Strike so dunno what you want for a DC.  Looking at the calculator, it's an INT+WIS check?

Also, not sure if Rem counts as being a trainer or if I am technically self-teaching.[/info]

Frenemies and Shitholes / Future Portland Primer
October 18, 2018, 12:15:36 AM
Cara'Sir AKA Portland
Portland was better known as a small but trendy town up until the awakening.  With the formation of Tir'Tairngire the sleepy town suddenly became the capitol of one of the most powerful nations of the former United States.  With that came millions seeking refuge from the chaos of the increasingly wild rural areas and a better life in the capitol metroplex which gained the nickname "The Land of Promise."  It didn't take long for the things to go south though as the brutal oppression of any non-Elven residents and the focusing of resources on the wealthy districts West of the Willamette quickly saw the deterioration of outlying suburbs into barrens.  Now, a strip of the East bank containing luxury apartments and corporate towers quickly gives way to barrens as you move away from the river.  The West bank holds city center where the governmental buildings and top tier corporate facilities are located, slowly giving way to the west to the pleasant suburbs of those with SINs and a good paying job.  The forested hills and banks South and Southwest of the city center are neighborhoods for the wealthiest in the capitol and heavily patrolled by private security companies to keep the riff-raff away.  North of the city center quickly gives way to an industrial area that fills the area from the city up to the Columbia river and spills across onto the East bank as well for the same distance.
The city has a dark past of heavy oppression of non-Elven citizens and this shows in the fact that while the estimated population of the city only slightly favors elves in the usual metahuman population breakdown, the SIN population comes out with elves leading the pack at around 78%.  Keeping those unruly masses at bay is tough work especially in a, until relatively recently, racial monarchy and various policies and traditions sprang up to keep the Elven nobles on top.  Among these is the tradition of the so called "Great Hunts" where Elven nobles and their entourages would set loose on the barrens and even in some cases the supposedly safe suburbs tracking and killing non-elves (and even the occasional Elven metahuman rights activist) for sport.  The practice waned with the change of the Council of Princes to publicly elected positions but has seen a disturbing resurgence in recent years with certain disaffected nobles becoming disappointed in their waning of power and wouldn't you know it, the Constabulary just can't seem to find any decent suspects whenever one rolls through town.

Security
Tir'Tairngire has its own public police force: the Constabulary, which handles the majority of policing in the capitol.  They have a rather tense relationship with non-Tir based private security companies and don't like it when they make a scene but are just as ruthless when it comes to keeping the peace.  Serving in the constabulary can count as part of a Tir citizen's national service and many try for this coveted position over risking being assigned to front-line infantry in the armed forces.  Of course, this being the Tir, this means that the constabulary is primarily staffed by young elves with the more pleasant being allowed the safe jobs of working in the high-sec areas and the more brutal being assigned to patrols that let them take out their frustrations on any round-ears or trogs they come across.  Don't take these SINners for just some punks though, they still have to go through the same boot camp as every other national service trainee so they have decent skills and even the golden-boys are usually within easy backup range of career officers that can really throw down with any shadowrunner.  Patrols of the lower-sec regions are usually conducted by these veterans that have had plenty of practice duking it out with gangers and won't take shit from any runners they have the displeasure of colliding with.

Frenemies and Shitholes / Starting Contacts Lists
October 16, 2018, 10:11:15 PM
Independents
These contacts act independently of any major factions. They work for themselves and their own interests and try to avoid conflict.  They tend to be specialized in what they can provide for a runner but make up for this by lacking the hang-ups of criminal politics that the Syndicates and Gangs have.

Steve Roderick
Elf Greenhorn Fixer
C: 4
L: 3
Steve is an up and coming fixer looking to work his way to the top. Steve has only just broken into the big league scene and doesn't have the rep or clout to pull many strings but he has a reputation for seeming to have an endless supply of effort when it comes to scoring for a client. He has only just begun setting up runner teams and many of the unknowns have started to turn to him looking to get in on the action and get a name made for themselves rather than try to break into the scene by waiting in a runner bar hoping to get noticed.
Specialties: Miscellany (non-specialized costs only 175%), Side Jobs
Friends: Not yet
Enemies: Not yet

Big Iron Joe
Ork Arms Dealer
C: 3
L: 5
When it comes to guns in Portland, "Big Iron" Joseph Falkner is the guy to see. Operating out of the Loyd Center night market, Big Iron Joe always has some stock on hand and is always getting new product. Loyal customers get loyal treatment and if they have a special order Joe will do what he can to make sure that the customer gets that special piece for that special job. While he may not have the cheapest guns, he is the biggest independent dealer in town and wont hold orders for hostage or try to pull a fast one on you.
Specialties: Guns, Ammo, Custom Weapons, Weapon modification
Friends: People that need guns
Enemies: None

Doctor Frankenstein
Elf Street Doc
C: 1
L: 6
Honest to God his name is Frankenstein and he's a doctor. He started up a small affordable clinic near the east barrens which was great PR for his patrons and attracted plenty of bleeding heart corp kids for volunteer labor. As time went on though, the corporate patron funding dwindled and the bleeding hearts stopped bleeding. and now the clinic is run by Friedrich Frankenstein all by his lonesome. Being a skilled, good natured, and affordable Street doc means he has plenty of friends but also plenty of problems. He seems to constantly get in trouble. He mostly funds his clinic these days by doing 'ware installations for runners or selling medical equipment to them but this is a slim margin to operate on and he frequently hits the red. This fact of life tends to see him in debt to one unsavory character or another as he tries to make ends meet while keeping his clinic open.
Specialties: Healing, Surgery, Medical supplies
Friends: Bleeding people, David Chen
Enemies: People he owes money

Dominic Kane
Ork Fixer
C: 6
L: 2 (Note: Loyalty costs double)
A somewhat new addition to the Portland shadows, Dominic Kane has developed quite the reputation as a fixer of sorts. He makes his living by setting up teams of runners with jobs from confidential clients. Due to a rumored falling out that he had in the past which resulted in his pulling up roots and landing in Portland he had developed a bit of paranoia about who he does business with. Some runners consider him to be too controlling and demanding to work with but he always seems to have jobs on hand for the cash strapped runner in need.
Specialties: Information, Side jobs, Miscellany (non-specialized costs only 150%)
Friends: No one
Enemies: Also no one as far as anyone can tell

Fast Larry
Human "Used" Car Salesman
C: 4
L: 3
Larry's "used" cars is a fixture of the Portland underground and located in the warren of abandoned parking levels that used to serve the Loyd Center back when it was still legit. Larry runs an independent chop shop and keeps in good graces with all the local booster gangs. Because of this he sees a lot of runners right after the job when they need to dump a suddenly very hot vehicle or even before the run when runners are looking to buy a cheap (and soon to be very hot) ride for a getaway. The man knows that he makes things much easier for much of the underground and makes sure that he gets his cut (which he makes sure to be as deep as he can get). He talks fast and will sell you a complete piece of shit for a cyber-suite if you let your guard down. He can also do some good upgrade work for the runner that likes a slick ride but not enough to do the work themselves. For the most desperate of the shadow's denizens he also offers fast loans at interest rates that will bleed you dry.
Specialties: Buying cars, Selling cars, Vehicle upgrades, Loans
Friends: Runners, car thieves, organized crime syndicates
Enemies: People that he swindled

Lael Barick
Elf Information Broker
C: 9
L: 2 (Note: loyalty costs double)
Now, everyone in the shadows keeps their ear to the ground and those that don't usually wind up fertilizing soy. But there is a difference between your average street denizen keeping their ear to the ground and an actual professional information broker. When it comes to the Portland shadows, Lael Barick is one of the few that actually is willing to come down to the street level to give access to runners. Now just because she is accessible doesn't mean she is cheap. If you can't barter with some other really useful piece of information, she will charge you extra. Runners looking to hawk some paydata will usually look to her to offload for whatever she feels like paying. She makes sure to profit off of everything though and won't pay much unless you happen to stumble across something that will make even her pause.
Specialties: Buying information, Selling information, Introductions, Forgeries
Friends: None
Enemies: None

Lucifer Whittcomb
Dwarf Master of the Arcane
C: 5
L: 3
When it comes to players in the streets of Portland, Lucifer Whittcomb is a name that often comes up. He's a dwarf with a bit of a napoleon complex and the magical mojo to back it up. To make his living he is better known as a reputable seller of information (assuming you are willing to endure his rants) as well as talismans, foci, and other magical goods. He keeps a keen eye to magical activity and works to get first pick on any magical goods that show in on the local black market. Any weird magic stuff is either connected to him or of great interest to him.  For reasons that none seem to understand (his ranting is usually vague on the topic despite how often it comes up) he has a major beef with Running Deer.
Specialties: Selling Information, Magical goods
Friends: None
Enemies: None
Rival: Running Deer

Red Blood
Human Serjerry Ekspert
C: 4
L: 4
Fun fact: Shadowrunners get shot. Even more fun fact: They usually can't count on going to a real hospital. This is where the likes of Red Blood come in. This guy is sketchy to the extreme even by the standards of a profession that commonly sticks its hands into people's torsos but when you need an operation and you don't/can't have access to a more trusted street doc Red Blood always has a table open, you might just have to spend a bit more time under than would make you comfortable. However, he is also the city's best independent bioware dealer and when a runner needs to make sure a body disappears, Red Blood can make sure that it's gonna be walking around in three different countries by the end of the week.
Specialties: Surgery, Healing, Bioware, Cyberware, Body disposal
Friends: No one is sane enough
Enemies: People in bathtubs full of ice

Running Deer
Troll Shaman
C: 6
L: 5
The quintessential Amerindian shaman, Running Deer is an ork that walks with the spirits. Running Deer is a fixture in the local magic community. No one is quite sure how old he is but he certainly SEEMS old and wise. He likes to mentor newly awakened in the shadows and counts quite a few street magi among his pupils. No one really knows why he does what he does but the haters think he is building up some kind network of loyal pawns while most everyone else thinks he's just trying to turn the dimmer towards bright. Regardless, he seems to work hard to be on the good side of things and might just be that lone light in the shadows in an otherwise dark cityscape.
Specialties: Introductions, Magical goods
Friends: Almost everyone
Enemies: None
Rival: Lucifer Whittcomb

TruSight
Dwarf Hacker
C: 2
L: 4
For TruSight paranoia isn't a way of life. It IS life. Constantly lurking the matrix for the latest conspiracies, TruSight datamines for hours. What does this mean for the residents of Portland's shadows? Well it varies. Sometimes TruSight can analyze and exploit a AAA firewall and sometimes he can help explain why the real power behind the corporate court are all the double A corps pulling the strings at the behest of their sapient octo-lizard masters. Usually on Long haul, sometimes on Cram, TruSight is always looking over his shoulder. Hard to contact at the best of times, flat out hiding under a rock at others, when TruSight doesn't want to be found, you will be hard pressed to even find his decoys.
Specialties: Information, Hacking
Friends: none that can be trusted
Enemies: THEY'RE EVERYWHERE

Vox
Troll Rigger
C: 2
L: 5
Vox is a gearhead that revels in the smell of new tech. A rigger by trade and a hacker on the side, this ork makes his money by building, importing, customizing, and outfitting drones and decks. If this troll could help it, he would never leave the RCU but alas he has to occasionally tend to his unwieldy meat body. While he is technically an independent in the shadows, Vox has closer relations with the Steel Sentinels than most due to their shared interests.
Specialties: Decks, Drones
Friends: Samantha Gallway
Enemies: None

Bob the Crackhead
Dwarf Crackhead
C: 1
L: 6
A wise man once said "crackheads can get into anywhere." Bob is living proof of that. He will do anything for a quick fix... ANYTHING. He has ran naked through downtown Portland. He has sucked cock. He has robbed liquor stores. He has run naked through the Ares arcology main entrance lobby and tackled security guards. He has fought a pack of ghouls with a broken bottle and a fistful of rat teeth. He has been found passed out naked on the 15th floor of the federal courthouse. All for the low low price of whatever fix you have on hand. He also seems to be nigh unkillable. He has survived 17 overdoses (that have been witnessed in public), been tasered an uncountable number of times, fallen out of windows, been thrown into the Willamette with concrete shoes, been stabbed by ghouls with a broken bottle, and had a fistful of rat teeth fired out of makeshift blunderbuss into his face.  Careful though, he has a habit of making himself at home wherever he smells a fix.
Specialties: Distractions, minor theft, finding drugs
Friends: Anyone with drugs
Enemies: too many to count

Aeaen Eoun
Elf Talismonger
C: 3
L: 2
Aeaen is a minor magical talent with a good assensing ability that has used his skills to sniff out the magical mojo that every caster wants.  He works out of the Night Market but can be hard to track down sometimes as he spends a lot of time acquiring magical reagents and goods.  He has established himself as the alternative to Running Deer and Lucifer for those that really don't want to hear a rant or lecture when they just want to get a foci for their next job.  No one is sure how (maybe it's just the ears or maybe he knows a guy) but he seems to be well permitted with the Tir and rarely gets his shipments seized.
Friends: Not many, he tries to keep things all business
Enemies: none

Runners / Character Generation Guide
October 16, 2018, 06:51:41 PM
The rules for character generation that we are going to use is Sum to 10 (can be found in Run Faster).  For those unfamiliar, this is a modified priority system where you get 10 points and each priority has an associated cost.  Priority costs are as follows A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, E=0.

In general, your characters are presumed to be unknowns in the Portland shadows.  This doesn't necessarily mean inexperienced as a runner but it does mean that you will be starting from the bottom of the ladder.

Additionally, everyone will receive Steve Roderick as a contact at loyalty 1 for free (Initial contact listing will be posted shortly).  You may increase your loyalty above this by spending contact points as normal.

When purchasing contacts from the list, they are bought at their listed connection rating (Noted as C) with a maximum loyalty rating of the value listed (Listed as L).  You may make your own contacts but I will need to get a good description of them and what they specialize in.  I reserve the right to alter or decline any contacts submitted.

Roleplays / [Interest Check] Shadowrun
October 14, 2018, 02:22:37 PM
Planning on running a game of Shadowrun 5th Ed.  Will probably be less of a traditional campaign structure and more of mish mash of random jobs.  Planning on setting it in Portland or as it is called in the setting: Cara'Sir, capitol of the Elven country of Tir'Tairngire.

Post if you're interested.  If you need any sourcebooks I have most of them.

《Chapter 8.5: Jean's Big Book of Wild and Crazy Things》

I'm writing here because I think that's what the big boss down deep wants me to do.  He was a bit vague but I guess I have to start somewhere...  So here I am, writing my ramblings down.

Captain's Log
Stardate: Working on it
The book is rather peculiar.  I remember back home it was written in what appears to be Latin but since getting to take a better look at it when there is a distinct absence of demon trying to turn me into paste I have noticed that there appear to be multiple sections of other writing as well.  Further, it almost seems as if the number and location of pages is not consistent as I look through the book.  I got a chance to look at it before I died again and I don't believe the sections are on the same pages now that they were before.  Further, there seems to always be a single blank page at the end.  Even as I turn this one over, a new one sits fresh behind it, ready for more writing.  Possible infinite page count?  The book's dimensions seem constant from the outside no matter how many times I turn the page.
Moving on...  There appear to be sections written in all kinds of languages including Egyptian hieroglyphs, oracle-bone script Chinese, Arabic, and several that I don't recognize but are nonetheless able to read.  Probably that translation power on the "Status" screen.  Even then, the script appears to differ among the same languages, Indicating multiple possible authors for each or possibly the same author after long gaps in time.  Were these predecessors of mine also subject to the game?  Had they also been tasked with the same quest as me?  If so they clearly failed since bossman still had that big god stick up his ass.  Further study is required.

Biography (Short)
Lived a quiet life and was able to start working in a massive library after college, his dream job.  Unfortunately, he was fired from his job when he got into an altercation with his boss over a strange book found in the library and ended up unemployed.  Trying to clear his head and figure out what to do with his life, he went on a cruise.  On this cruise he encountered some unknown force which ended with him drowning in the ocean and dragged into the briny darkness by tentacles.

Death Vignette
"Another round dear therapist."  Says the inebriated young man at the bar.  Jean looks from his empty glass to the aged book sitting on the bar counter.  He ran his fingers along the embossed leather of the cover, tracing the intricate patterns absentmindedly as he waits for the bartender to return with the bottle of scotch.  "Well, I hope you were worth it."  He says to the tome.  His mind wandered back to the fight that ended his career.  "What could that idiot have possibly been thinking selling you off?"
It had all started with a simple check of the library's shelves.  Jean found the book in the physics section, clearly out of place, and had tried to find the proper place for the unlabeled mystery.  But there was no record of the book, or clues to where it even came from.  It appeared to be written in latin or some similar dialect, Jean wasn't totally sure as he didn't know much beyond a few basic words.  Intrigued and excited at his find, he brought the book to his supervisor and was shocked when, after also finding no record of the book, his boss tried to take the book to sell as a curio.  The two of them got into an argument and in a surprising fit of anger Jean punched his supervisor square in the jaw which quickly lead to his summary termination.  That was a week ago, how convenient that he was about to get on a cruise to celebrate his first year of work in that library when he lost the very same job he was hoping to celebrate.
"Alone?"  Jean was drawn from his memory by the soft feminine voice.  He looked to the young woman sitting at the bar next to him.  She looked to be the same age as him and dressed in a swimsuit covered with the most minimal of clothing.  "Alone? No, I have all the distilleries of the scottish highlands to keep me company.  What about you?  Any friends to keep you company?"  She giggled at this before responding.  "I guess Jose, but I had something else in mind.  Why don't you come by my cabin?"  She said as she wrote down a number on a cocktail napkin.  "I think we can make better company together someplace private."  She whispered into his ear as she stuck the napkin into his chest as she walked past to the exit to the bar.  Jean barely noticed his fingers getting wet as the bartender overpoured his glass with a slack jaw having watched the whole exchange.  "Daaaaaaaaayum tiger looks like you just hit the jackpot."  exclaimed the bartender as he wiped up the mess he had made.  Jean, still stunned by his fortune, quickly downed his drink in a hurry to stand up.  A bad idea to say the least as he coughed and sputtered the fiery liquid out to contribute to the alcohol already pooled on the counter.  He scooped up the book and hustled out onto the deck of the ship with a helpful thumbs up from the bartender.
Pumping his fist with a quiet "yessss" he looked out over the ocean.  The cool sea breeze blowing a refreshing breath into his lungs while he took in the view of the full moon hanging over the water, its white light illuminating the deck of the cruise ship.  "Maybe this is the upswing."  Turning to make his way to that cabin and the waiting girl, Jean's mood crashed like a boat on the reefs when he saw who was walking down the deck towards him.  "Valois, I know you have the book.  Give it to me."  His supervisor drew closer with each step as he talked.  "What the hell Steve?  You followed me on my cruise?"  He instinctively held the book to his chest as he slowly walked backwards to keep some distance between him and Steve.  "Why do you want to sell this book?  There's no way it's worth all this."  Steve continued his advance.  "This is fucking insane Steve.  What is wrong with you?"   "That book is worth millions you idiot and you could have had your cut but now I'm going to have mine."  Steve reached into his jacket and pulled out a knife.  "Shit!"  is all Jean had time to say as he ducked when Steve swung the blade at him.  Jean turned and ran down the deck.  "Fuck, fuck, fuck, FUCK!  Steve you've lost your shit."  Where's security when you need them?  Runs silently through Jean's mind while his feet do their own running.  The deck of the ship inconveniently absent of anyone that might be able to help him in his predicament.  He looked over his shoulder to see Steve keeping pace with him, not gaining ground but still uncomfortably close.  This momentary glance was brief, but enough for Jean to not notice the end of the deck and instead of taking the turn around the corner in stride, he stumbled and ran gut first into the railing, flipping over the side and landing on a wide umbrella on the deck below.  The canvas of the umbrella sending him rebounding off to the side and into a wall.
Coughing, winded, and dizzy from the fall, Jean rolled onto his back to look up at the moon.  Was the moon that big and red before or am I...  "Fuck!"  He exclaimed again as Steve, hanging off the railing above, dropped down from the above deck to strike with his knife.  Rolling to the side, Jean just barely avoided the knife plunging into the waxed planks of the deck.  He scrambled to his feet as Steve pulled the knife from the deck.  Stumbling and yet to recover from the fall, Jean tried to make his way down the deck.  It is only a few stumbling steps before he feels a hand on his shoulder shoving him into a row of deck chairs.  Crashing into the chairs, Jean falls once again, hitting his head in the process.  Brought to his knees, Jean gripped his head in his hands.  Letting go of the book for the first time, it lies on the deck, filling Jeans view through his narrowed eyes.  Taking a hissing breath, Jean looks at one of his hands and sees blood from the wound on his head.  The blood flows from the cut on his brow into his eyes with a stinging pain and then drips down onto the book.  The dark crimson flows through the channels of the embossed leather, making the intricate designs glisten with a bright red light as the moon pulsed its own vermillion illumination onto the glimmering blood.  "This is it Jean, hand over the book so I can toss you over the side."  A tear runs from Jean's eye to mix with the blood and falls to the cover of the book.  "Is this how it ends Steve?  Over a fucking book?"
Before Steve could answer the deck of the ship bucked beneath them.  A voice, booming like the sound of a waterfall crashing against the rocks below thundered across the ocean.  I. HAVE. FOUND. YOU.  Each word struck like a wave breaking over a storm wall, louder and clearer than anything Jean had heard before.  Steve was down on the deck when it bucked a second time, launching his several feet up before falling back face-down onto the deck.  Jean took the opportunity to try and get up himself, pulling himself up with the railing with one hand while the other took up the book once again.  Unfortunately, Steve wasn't  down for long before getting back up himself.  "Give it up Jean."  He seemed unphased by whatever was going on and reached out with one hand to accept the book while his other brandished the knife.  Jean leaned his back on the railing.  "This isn't worth it Steve!"  He said, holding up the book like a shield in front of him, the blood stains glowing with a maddeningly azure light.  "Actually, the blood stains  increase the value to the people I plan on selling it to... so yeah, it is worth it."  Jean's stomach plummeted at this.  He wasn't going to make it.  "Well..."  He tried to think at a mile a minute but his brain stumbled from the pain he was in and fell flat at the starting block.  "Well... FUCK YOU STEVE!"  was all that came out of Jean as he flipped Steve the bird and heaved himself over the railing and off the side of the cruise ship, his hand continuing to grip the book.
Jean had a surprisingly long time to look to his impending death as he fell the dozens of feet to the water, long enough to see the ocean roiling and glowing with an eerie green light as if another sun was burning in the depth below.  "What the?"  Slipped out of his mouth before he crashed into the water flat on his belly, any air he might have thought to try and keep in his lungs bubbling out in a watery gasp.  Guess this is it.  Mused Jean to himself as he sank down into the depths towards the green light.  Without thinking he tried to breath in but his body violently disagreed and writhed without control.  He felt the water flow against his skin as he continued to sink even faster.  His brain, somehow making one last successful gasp of control, calmed his flailing limbs enough for him to think: Wait.... People don't sink.  He turned as he was pulled ever deeper to look to the light, its emerald luminescence almost blinding at this point.  He saw a great stone circle from which countless undulating tentacles ranging up to the size of buildings emanated.  As if sensing his gaze, the tentacles lashed out to grasp his limbs and with the snap of an extremely motivated anemone took him into the light.

It is the middle of the day and the hot desert sun beats down upon your heads in the Sunburst Market.  The market is packed today by the throngs of adventurers waiting for the ceremony with you and by onlooking residents of the city.  It is the day of the lottery, the event you came to the city for and after days of preparation it is finally time to gain access to the untold treasures of Wati's famous necropolis.  merchants ply their wares, offering cool drinks to slake the thirst brought on by the oppressive heat.  At the end of the market, the grand mausoleum (the city's largest temple of Pharasma) behind it, stands a platform upon which mill several priests preparing for the ceremony.  There is a palpable energy in the air, as excitement courses through the crowded market.  Even those hiding in the shadows of the market's massive columns to escape the glare of the sun chatter among themselves and others speculating the results of the lottery and exchanging information.
As you continue to wait, a keleshite man and two companions approaches you.  They appear to be adventurers judging from their assorted armor.  Each of them wears a white cloak with their hoods drawn and a metal pauldron sporting a bronze eagle.  "Hail there friend, I think I've seen your lot around the Tooth and Hookah.  I should have guessed we'd run into you here.  The name's Rogan Thal and we're the Bronze Eagles from Thuvia.  Mind if I ask who you are?  Surely some good conversation will pass the time awaiting the lottery ceremony all the swifter."

NPCs and Locations / The Tooth and Hookah
May 05, 2018, 01:29:41 PM
The Tooth and Hookah is a modest inn in the city of Wati.  While it is a fine establishment located in the Midwife district, it lacks the name recognition of the Whispering Stone.  Because of this it is usually a quiet place where a traveler looking for some peace can find a cool drink, a pipe, and the company of the inn's mascot: Toothy the crocodile.  Toothy tends to spend the hottest hours of the day in the inn's well, coming out in the cooler evening to dine on the scraps thrown to him by the proprietor and patrons.  In the hotter evenings, he simply rests upon the rim of the well, keeping an eye over the main hall.  The proprietor of the establishment is a Garundi man by the name of Farhaan.  He's a retired adventurer with plenty of scars said to have built the inn off his reward for hunting and slaying a powerful necromancer many years ago.  With the announcement of the opening of the Necropolis though, even this quiet sanctum is filled to capacity with adventurers looking to find their fortunes, "The Company of the New Dawn" counted among them.
The inn is three floors.  The first floor is dominated by the main room filled with low set tables and cushions to sit on.  Hookahs rise from the middle of each of the tables and patrons can be supplied with tobacco complimentary to a fine meal or a night in the inn.  The inn's infamous well sits next to the end of the bar along the back of the main room, giving Toothy a prominent position, especially for those that look to sit at the stools and get a drink.  The two upper floors are for those staying the night in the inn and have a similar layout to each other.  Each has seven rooms with four of them arranged around a small common area with another same low set table with hookah and cushions for those looking for a more quiet place to retire in the evenings.  The third floor common area has an open skylight, that can be covered in the daytime with a canvas roof but opened up at night to allow the cool desert wind to provide a breath of fresh air to those staying in the inn.

Locales / Confederation Outpost 3342: Twinsol Station
January 21, 2018, 03:54:01 PM
Approximately 700 years old, Twinsol Station is built on a major nexus of trade routes through the Confederation in a binary star system from which it draws its name.  Over the years, the outpost has seen numerous additions and now is a densely populated warren in most of its sections with a total population of over 12 million.  The station's denizens have even built their own docking facilities in the nul-sec sectors that station security has given up on trying to patrol.

General security protocol: no weapons larger than a pistol allowed in patrolled areas.

Areas

Admin Sector [High-Sec]: The administrative and utility center of the station, no weapons allowed in this sector beyond station security and registered private security personnel.

Trade Sector: Located next to the Administrative sector, this is where most of the Chartered Corporations have made their primary home on the station and where the hundreds of trading and fleet companies have their offices.

Residential Sector: Where all the "well to do" occupants of the station reside.  The further from the administrative end of the station you get, the less well to do it becomes.

The Docking Ring: Towards the end of the residential sector, the station's pylons attach to the main superstructure to connect the massive docking ring to the rest of the station.  The ring provides official docking services and robust maintenance facilities

Industrial Sector: The station has a decently large manufacturing sector built up to process raw materials that come in to the station before shipping out the finished products. Starts where the residential sector ends for close access to the docking ring pylons and even includes shipyard facilities for starships in need of major repair or retrofit, or even a brand new ship if you have the credits.  Originally the "end" of the station, additions to the industrial sector eventually became the infamous warrens.

The Warrens [Nul-Sec]: Attached onto the end of where the original station superstructure ends with the industrial sector, the Warrens were built up over the years the station has existed initially as planned additions, but now has become a practically lawless area.  The Station administration has given up on patrolling the Warrens and contracts out utilities and maintenance to various corporations willing to work out there.  These corporations in turn charge for provision of services including life support, power, and matrix infrastructure to make a decent profit. The only security services in The Warrens are corporate security personnel protecting their own assets or businesses that have chosen to contract out their protection.  Everyone else is on their own.  The Warrens are also home to a large number of unsanctioned starship docking facilities run by everyone from chartered corporations looking to make a profit in docking fees to crime syndicates willing to sell some privacy from the prying eyes of station security.

Roleplays / [Interest Check] Scifi RP
January 18, 2018, 10:13:24 AM
So I've been working on a straight scifi setting using SR5 rules for a while and have been running an RP with Mystic using the setting and rules.  I think that the setting documents are at a place now where I feel like they could be used for actually running some games and was wondering if there was any interest out there.

I'm thinking of a group of up to 5 players for a space-faring game inspired mostly by Outlaw Star, Firefly. and Shadowrun.

The setting still needs some work and rules probably need adjusting so I'm going to have to ask some patience with it whenever hiccoughs happen.

Post if you are interested

Edit: Forgot to put in a link to the setting information documents

Main story / Chapter 1: First day on the job
July 27, 2017, 04:30:12 PM
4:00 AM Confederation Standard Time
The ship's intercom crackles to life and the captain's voice pipes into your quarters, interrupting your sleep.  "Rise and shine everybody!  We're an hour from dropping out of FTL so make preparations for docking.  Get your grub on and get to work."  With a sudden increase in the background humming noises the lights in your room flick on to full power from the low nighttime levels.  You hear the metallic banging of doors opening and closing, groans from others whose sleep was suddenly ended, and chatter of the early risers all comming from the other side of your cabin's door.  You are on The Brown Tide: a free merchant vessel that you chartered to your destination.  Your one and a half week long journey was comming to an end today.  Outside the window of your cramped cabin stars streak by, or at least that is what it looked like.  You remember someone in highschool saying it was actually exotic particles interacting with the FTL drive but that didn't dim the glimmer of those streaking "stars".
Your cabin is small, the best you can afford with the travel expenses dispensed to you for the journey and little more than a bed and a side table with an overhead compartment for essential clothes and gear.  The rest of your possessions are in the cargohold.  You don't have any duties to perfom on the ship as a passenger and can spend the time to arrival as you see fit.  The clamour outside seems to have died down as the crew has moved on to breakfast and their duties.

Protagonists / Clark MacPhearson
July 01, 2017, 04:24:23 PM
Name: Clark MacPhearson
Age: 16
Race: Scottish/American
Gender: Male
Hair color: Brown
Eye Color: Green
Height: 5'8"
Weight/build: solidly built from farm work and hiking

Favorite things: Animals, nature, hiking, traveling, gardening

Hated things: loud noises, the podunk shithole he's stuck in

Relationships: James Duncan

Background:
Clark was born to parents that traveled the world, taking him with them to go around the world with their work the exact nature of which he was never clear on. Because of this James was able to meet people around the world but what really made him happy was getting to visit the natural places of Earth. From the hot desert of the Australian Outback to the cold mountains of the Andes, Clark found solace in the sweeping vistas he got to go to throughout his travels. Unfortunately, it all came to and end when in a tragic car crash his parents died and he found himself having to live with his maternal grandparents in Haverstown. He hasn't handeled the transition that well. Too used to the exotic cities of the world, being stuck in rural America drives him mad.
He doesn't mind working on his granparent's dairy farm or caring for the animals but he found the town endlessly dull and constantly tried to escape it by taking camping trips. After a year though even this lost its spark as he exhausted new places to camp and explore. Now, he just passes through life, bored by the kids at his school who he finds petty with their social politics. This give him something of a superiority complex over his peers, deserved or not. His attitude makes him unpopular at school and has gotten him into a few fights, most of which he lost.
Clark mostly whiles away his free time in one of two places during the week. The first is Big Jim's Sporting Goods Store where he has made friends with the store's proprieter: James Duncan. He enjoys checking out new gear from camping and any of the other fun toys that find their way to the massive superstore. The second place he goes to is the second barn on his grandparent's farm which has been converted into a small warehouse for the various knicknacks his parents picked up on their travels. He likes to go there when he's looking for some peace and quiet. His favorite knicknack is a one meter statue of a bow and arrow weilding figure from some mythology which Clark has yet to find the name to. sometimes he finds himself too broken up about his parent's death to go into the barn. His grandparents (the Whites) have tried their best to keep Clark busy and out of trouble but a kid with a trustfund stipend from his parent's estate tends to find himself with more money and time than he should have.

Jace

A few days have passed since you left Lord Blackblade's home.  You have heard nothing from him but an installment of the stipend has arrived for you with information that the stipend will be made through the Royal Bank of London and that you should inform them should your address change.  It is later in the morning and most of the hostel's residents have already left to go find work in the city.  It is at this time that you are found by Constantine, who shows up at the hostel looking for you.  "Jace what have you done?  People are looking for you."

Annalise Schwartz and Ilsa Raisch

As the day dawns one spring morning each of you recieves a letter.  Sealed with wax, the letter bears a crest.  Upon opening the letter you find the following written.  You are invited to join the Blackwatch Association.  If you are interested in learning more of this association or in joining, you are invited to tea with Lord Blackblade of Lancaster at the Blackwatch Association's clubhouse in London this afternoon at three o'clock.  You find the address to the clubhouse written at the bottom of the note.

Campaign- Fractum est Rigidum / CH 1 - An Invitation
February 12, 2017, 10:04:17 PM
"OI, you got a letter."  The clamour the bustle of morning suddenly gains clarity as you are woken from your sleep by the owner of the hostel.  The ruckus of the several dozen residents getting ready to take on the fresh day serves as background noise as the man standing over your meager bed once again speaks.  "Letter came for you just a bit ago.  Looks pretty fancy.  You piss off the gentry?"  The owner of the hostel flashed a quick smile at this before tossing the letter onto your bed and unceremoniously taking his leave.  There now lies at the foot of your bed a clean cut envelope made of decent quality paper and sealed with red wax and a coat of arms.  Written on its surface: To Jason Elric Lord

Now without further ado: uses for Harrow points for the duration of The Edge of Anarchy

Dexterity Rerolls: Spend a Harrow Point to reroll any one Initiative check, Reflex save, attack roll modified by Dexterity, or Dexterity-based  kill check. You must abide by the new result (although if you have additional Harrow Points remaining, you can use them to attempt  additional rerolls).

Player Characters / Character Generation
March 11, 2016, 04:24:07 PM
Character generation rules
So for those that are unfamiliar with or have forgotten the way I have generated characters for this in the past here are the rules.
[info]Stat Lines
For statistics you get 3 sets of dice roll from which you choose 1 for your character.  Each of these stat lines can be rolled 1 of 2 ways.  The first method is roll 6 groups of 4 dice, totaling the highest 3 dice, and allocate these to each stat as you wish.  The second method, also called deadlock, is to roll 6 sets of 5d6, totaling the highest 3 dice, and which will then be allocated to statistics in the order of Str, Dex, Con, Int, Wis, Cha.  You are then allowed to swap 2 stats once (this is to allow you to have your primary class attribute be your highest or otherwise prevent a stat-line that simply wont fit the class you want to play).  Further a stat-line with a total stat bonus less than 4 can be rerolled.

Example of deadlock
14, 15, 12, 9, 17, 16
this stat-line would be set as
Str: 14
Dex: 15
Con: 12
Int: 9
Wis: 17
Cha: 16
But if the class you wanted to play was wizard, you might want to have Int be your highest stat and could use your one swap to change the stat-line to
Str: 14
Dex: 15
Con: 12
Int: 17
Wis: 9
Cha: 16[/info]

[info]Traits
Each character gets 2 traits plus a bonus campaign trait from the list outlined in the Curse of the Crimson Throne Players Guide for a total of 3 traits.[/info]

[info]Races
Races are restricted to core races or featured races from the advanced race guide.[/info]

[info]Stating Resources
You start with gold/gear as if you had rolled the maximum amount for your class.[/info]

[info]Backstory
Please try to have a backstory that fits into the setting of Golarion.  It doesn't need to be elaborate but it would be nice for it to make sense.  Also, the campaign is essentially good aligned so please have a reason to try to be heroic or at least non-evil.[/info]

If you have any questions feel free to post them here or ask Oath.  His character thread should be a good example for any questions (His character is essentially being replayed from the previous attempt).

Short Version
Interest check to see if anyone is interested in joining a run through the premade paizo campaign: The Curse of the Crimson Throne.  Might already have 3 players up for it and I am not super keen on having more than 4 players total.  Currently Oath, Inhumanronin, and another player whose handle I do not know are expressing interest in the game.

Long Version
So I started this campaign previously trying to play a weekly session over the internet via voice chat and roll20 but due to some problematic players and an increasing workload from studying I had to kill the campaign.  However, since I already bought half of the books for the campaign and because of a minor nagging compulsion to finish what I started, I feel the need to take another try at the campaign.  I also figure that a pbp might be a better fit for my schedule than live sessions.  As a heads up, I am a medical student that is currently in Australia for the next year so I might not be able to post in a particularly timely fashion at times.  Also as a heads up: I am not super experienced as a gm so I kinda suck at things like improvising.  This also is why I am not super big on having more than 4 players, partially to keep the number of people I need to keep track of low and to keep in line with the built in balance of the campaign.

Post if you are interested, and we can try and sort things out.  Also, if Tony, Kyle, and Garth can post as a kind of proof of interest themselves that would be nice.

Sidestories / What's In a Name?
February 02, 2016, 01:39:19 AM
"Sorry about this... Steve?"  Roland whispered as he pulled the sleeping/dead hobo over his head as he lay prone in a pile of filth.  He looked out across the street to his car and the two Ancients walking around it.  One of them raised the shotgun in his hands and then sent the butt through the driver's side window.  "Aw come on it's not even my car, why would you do that?"  Hissed morgan as the Ancient cleared the remaining glass from the window and opened the car.  How did I end up in this situation?

"Hey wake him up."  What is that sensation?  "Well I would like to wait longer but things need to get initialized." Roland's arm felt cold.  "Two weeks doc, as much as I enjoy your company I'm getting a bit tired of paying for bed-space."  "Well looks like you are in luck because I think he is coming out of it on his own."  Roland opened his eyes... or did he?  Everything was black.  It dawned on him: the crash, the explosion, the grenade going off. "OH SHIT I'M BLIND."  "Oh right, hold up there cowboy need to turn on the new blinkers."  Suddenly a bright light flooded Roland's gaze.  Large red letters materialized in the middle of his view.  FUCHI MUGEN SYSTEM v5.65 - Initializing.  The bright white light changed to black, then blue, then red, then yellow, and then finally things materialized.  He was in a room and lying on small bed as two men looked at him.  One of them, a old troll hunched over on a stool, held a small comlink in his hand that trailed a datacord into Roland's datajack.  He tapped away on the comlink as the other, an Asian human about the same age as Roland, sat at ease in a folding chair.  "Alright the eyes should be setup" said the troll as he pulled a datachip out of the comlink.  He reached over to a small table over to his side and put the chip down before picking up a different one off the table.  He connected another datacord to the comlink before connecting the other end to Roland's right arm which was, to Roland's great surprise, now red chrome.  "Heads up kid this is gonna be a ride."  Fire coursed through Roland's arm from the tips of his fingers and rolled in a wave all the way into his shoulder where it streaked up his neck and along his spine.  "HURG" was the closest thing to a scream that Ronald could manage as he became acutely aware of the fact that it felt like he had just fallen out of orbit onto the pavement.  "Oh, no screaming, that's a good sign" remarked the Asian man.  "Or something is fucked."  The troll spoke as he quickly pulled a light from his pocket and began shining it in Roland's eyes.  Roland was about to squint but suddenly the light wasn't as bright.  "Uh... I think you need to charge that light."  The troll shined the light onto his hand.  "Guess that means the additional functions for the eye are working. Can you move your hand?  Touch your nose with your right hand then touch my palm."  The troll raised his hand and Roland obliged.  "Well looks like he's good.  He's all your problem now Shinji.  Now if you don't mind I need to go see to another patient now if you could just get out of here once he can walk I need the bed space."  The troll took his leave and walked out of the room.
"Well, guess it's introduction time.  My name is Shinji and you owe me big time."  Shinji stood and extended his hand which Ronald took up.  "What happened?  Where did the chrome come from?  Last I remember we were going down over the barrens."  "Oh you went down alright.  In fire and flames you came crashing down in our territory.  Actually pretty conveniently since you came down on a pack of Halloweeners.  As for the chrome, well you were pretty fucked up in the crash, had to cut you out of the wreckage myself.  How do you like the 'ware?  I went top of the line.  The arm is the newest Renraku Bushi, same model the red samurai use."  "That is awfully generous of you..."  Roland took stock of Shinji's attire which was a comfortable suit that was probably armored and then he saw it: the edge of a tattoo around his collar.  "Uh... are you..."  "Yakuza?  Yeah you bet I am."  "So that means..."  "You are in debt to the clan my friend.  Well technically you are in debt to me but I had to put my fingers on the line to get the higher ups to agree to let me take you in.  So I am definitely going to need to get you to pay me back."  "And how much is that going to be?"  "Fifty thousand"  "FIFTY THOUSAND?"  "Yup, it's going to be a lot of work to get our asses out of the fire on this."
