[Jean] Chapter 2: Something Old

     Jean was shocked by the kiss and gently put his hands on Eloise's shoulders.  He let the kiss go on for several eternally long heartbeats before eventually pulling away from her soft lips.  "I'm sorry Eloise."  He whispered.  "But hey, I said I'll meet you at the academy.  It might not happen in this life but I promise you:  I will find you.  I've lived more since entering this world dead than I ever had alive and that was all thanks to you summoning me."  With that, Jean hugged her and let her go.  He turned to the slime girl.  "Take care of her."  He turned around finally to face the oncoming foe, his mind surprisingly clear, his heart perfectly calm, his body more still than the water of a pond on a windless night.
