《Chapter 3: Something Ancient》

Words flashed in your mind.

You have gained a new title『Dearest』
You have gained +1 CHA
Eloise looked wistfully at you when you finally pulled yourself back. By her movements, she seemed to want more, her posture leaning forward, her arms lingering slightly longer once you had embraced her, but the girl shook her head knowing full well what the current situation was like. This was not the time, she knew that, but she also wished things were different.

"I spent so much time studying books and magic... I never even thought about other feelings..."

The sounds of the stepping continued to get louder and louder. What was once faint taps, became much more evident thudding. It was then that the sounds of falling trees being ripped and torn to the ground was starting to mingle with the sounds of the steps, further confusing the cacophony of sounds. It was becoming louder, whatever was coming, was getting closer. Everyone knew that. Even the slime girl next to Eloise was getting fidgety, she continued to scan the treeline, jumping everytime one of the large trees was toppled further in the distance.

"Don't forget Jean... You're taking responsibility, okay?" The mage girl, Eloise, smiled one more time, echoing the words that she had spoken about the third time now.

"Come back safe..." With that, Eloise, with one last look at you, began running off. The slime girl, stared at you for a short moment as well, and reached one of her hair tentacles forward. The tentacle seemed to hesitantly touch your cheek at first but then settled on your cheek after a few brief moments.

A strange thing happened then, the tentacle broke off its end, as the slime girl retreated back the remainder of its hair tentacle, what was left behind on your cheek slid to your shoulder. With that the slime girl turned around as well, catching up to Eloise, and leaving behind the smaller slime with you.

Jean looked at the slimeling that the slime girl had left with him.  "Well, I guess on the upside I finally got to kiss a girl..."  He closed his eyes, resisting the urge to look back and watch the two leave.  Jean knew that he only had so much MP left.  If he was going to make a good enough delay, he would need something.  "I hope this works."  He mumbled to himself as he turned his mind inward to try and reach out to that oh so mysterious source from which the incantations had stemmed.  There was something he had found odd, the magic he had been using had not felt right, like it did not belong, like it was not the same magic that Eloise had cast.  Jean was never quite sure why this was, he had assumed that maybe all magic was like this but he was beginning to think otherwise.  "Show The Way...  What was that?"  His mind was there, the source of his incantations.  He felt the hectic pull of his mind to the source of knowledge but instead of simply passively letting his mind receive the knowledge he reached out and dove, driving his mind down past the surface knowledge and deeper down into the depths.

"S͎̠̪̱̮̱͕͕H̖̯̙̲͞O͏͓̠̮̗W̶̛̲̗̯̠͔͜.̶̢̙̤̕ ̷̨̗̬͇͢T̷̼̳̖͕͖͍͕̀H͏̙̠Ę̸̻͕͎̠̫͖ͅ.͍ ̧͕͎W̭̳A̯̭͕̳͍̦ͅY̨̦̦͡.̸̷̼̦"

It struck him like knife into the middle of his forehead, like he had stuck his finger in an electric socket.  Power like he had never felt flowed through his body from the unknown source.  It felt like lightning arcing from his skin, like ice shooting through his veins, like fire flowing though his limbs, like breathing in an ice-cold wind.  It was...  Glorious.  Jean opened his eyes and looked down at his hands.  A brilliant blue light was flowing up his hands like rivulets of water running in reverse.  Jean began to laugh.  "Status!"  He shouted and focused on his attributes, he would need greater strength so he focused on the + to increase his strength.  "Weight Control!"  was bellowed next, decreasing his weight.  Then he raised the spear and repeated the keyword.  "Weight Control!"  increasing the heft of the spear.
Jean could hear the thing approaching.  He took his final chance to set himself, bracing his body and weapon for the oncoming foe.  He yelled out into the trees.  "Come on!  Bring it asshole!"

Your wish is granted.
Then further words appeared in your head.

You have gained a new title『The Chosen of a God???』
You felt the sleepiness simply vanish. You felt renewed as if that surge of energy that you were searching for was granted upon you.

The green semi-translucent window remained open in front of you, and you saw your MP go down 16 points altogether.

It was at that moment that you finally managed to see a glimpse of the creature that had been following you. It was large, standing perhaps 45 ft. tall, and 45 ft. wide. It resembled a spider of some sort, with a slight pink-purple hue, but it was metallic in the moonlit night. It's 6 legs were long and sharp, ending in sharp points, almost resembling large blades. Each of the ends too were covered in dried blood.

It screeched then, as it noticed you. Again, its sound was a crystal-like sound, mixed in with the sound of metallic blades being slid against each other. As it moved, it toppled trees down, or more specifically, it looked as if it was both toppling and cutting them down.

QuoteIt's 120 ft. away.

Jean was awestruck for a second upon seeing the monster's immense size but quickly steeled his nerves.  "Summon Tentacle!"  He shouted, invoking the keyword as he raised his free hand to the sky like a claw raking the air before him.  He then began running straight towards the monster.

Standard Action: Summon 4 tentacles at 5 MP each to surround the monster with instructions to attack.

Move Action:  Move 60 ft towards the monster

QuoteSlight picture recolor.

《Summon Tentacle》
Four tentacles appeared then. Each one towered 50 ft. tall in length.
All four of tentacles you had just summoned sped towards the metallic purple-hued spider. The tentacles immediately attempted coiling themselves around the target. All four tentacles began wrapping themselves around the target, and eventually started to hold it in place.

The giant metallic spider screeched in its crystal-like sound again, and two of its forward-most blade-arms struck out on one of the tentacles attacking it, while the two hind legs reared up to attack the other tentacle. All of its attacks hit. The tentacles were severely hurt, but they managed to continue to coil on its target.

Seeing the monster grappled by the tentacles, jean seized his chance and charged the monster as it was distracted.  "Thanks guys!"  He yelled as he sped past the tentacles.  He then leapt as he neared the monster and flipped the spear over, stabbing down with both hands.

QuoteDue to the weirdness of how PF works for multiple grapplers, only Tentacle 1 will continue grappling, the rest will attack.

The tentacle attempting to keep it held down was shaken off. The other three tentacles attacked it. There were 6 attempted slams altogether. Even though the metallic spider's metallic body was tough, 4 of the slams still managed to deal some damage. However, among those 4 successful hits, it seemed like only 2 managed to get through its naturally resistant shell.

The two tentacles that had previously been hit had deep slices into its body, and purple-colored blood oozed from the wounds.

Your attack manages to hit. The shell of the creature was amazingly tough, as if it managed to absorb some of the damage, but you knew your impact was powerful. The power of both wind and cold both increased the sharpness of your weapon, along with creating frost at the target point. From the white mist alone that was created after you struck the creature, did you realize that it must have been very cold. However, just like with the tentacles, the thick armor of the creature seemed to absorb some of the damage, but with its shrill crystal-like screech a moment later, you assumed that you had dealt it some damage.

The metallic spider then initiated a similar attack from its first one. Its front two and hind blade legs began attacking, this time, aiming for the other tentacles that were still uninjured. All of its attacks hit, two blades per tentacle. The blades dug deep.

Out of 8 attacks, 4 managed to hit the metallic spider with enough force that the creature had to step to maintain its balance. However, the tentacles were having trouble actually damaging the creature, and the metallic spider continued its relentless assault. Each of the tentacles you summoned had started to bleed profusely from their wounds.

Thrusting your spear upwards, the blow connected, but it only glanced off the creature's thick metallic body.

The creature screeched again, and it slashed out with four of its blade arms. This time it had one arm for each tentacle surrounding it. One tentacle managed to barely get away, but the rest were hit.

Jean was beginning to notice the toll that was being wrought on the tentacles.  It had only been a handful of seconds since the combat had begun but Jean was already faced with what looked like a losing battle.  His mind racing to try and figure out another plan, he continued his attack, hoping to cripple the beast or at least wound it slightly.  He tried stabbing his spear where the monster's limbs met its body thinking it might be weaker there.

The tentacles began moving to attack it as well. Out of 8 attacks, all but 1 missed. However, the one that managed to hit seemed to hit the creature hard. The bleeding the tentacles were suffering from continued to plague them.

You attempted to attack but you missed.

The metallic spider attacked your tentacles back. All 4 of its attack hit. It managed to fell one of the tentacles. The tentacle stopped moving.

Jean saw the tentacle fall to the monster.  He knew he was running out of time but he had only held off the monster for what may have felt like an eternity but he knew was probably only for a minuscule amount of time.  Eloise and the slime girl needed more time.  He had to keep the monster distracted longer.  He bellowed incoherently and continued to stab at the monster's belly as it towered over him, hoping that maybe his frustration and anger would pierce the monster's carapace where the he had so far failed.

The tentacles continued to attack. Out of 8 attacks, 2 managed to hit. However, the two attacks didn't seem to do much damage, if any, at all. After attacking, another one of your tentacles bled out and fell to the ground with a loud thud. You attacked as well then, but like before, your attack didn't seem to find any purchase on the metallic spider.

The metallic spider struck out again. Two of its arms for each tentacle. The attacks hit, and the remaining two tentacles were felled. The metallic spider then aimed its gaze at you.
