《Chapter 7.5: The Definition of Insanity》
"Hurk!"  Jean grunted as his back struck the stone pillar sideways, hyper-extending as his arms and legs continue on past before their momentum dwindled and he fell onto his side.  He panted and propped himself up by his elbows as he tried to catch the wind knocked out of him by the blow.  He staggered up to his feet and faced Rem and the tentacles surrounding her.  When he told her and the tentacles to show no mercy, he hadn't expected them to be quite so merciless.
He was strong, probably stronger than Rem and any individual tentacle, yet he had never been in a fight in his life and he had purposefully made himself outnumbered.  He had worked hard to avoid the bullies of his school and never dreamed of intervening in their torment of those that caught their malicious gaze.  His strategy had worked brilliantly and served him well.  But he was no longer in that world and memories of the cost of this tactic relived themselves constantly in his mind.  His dark master's punishments were hot and fresh like so much roasted flesh and while the nigh-endless brutality had given him a surprising sensitivity to the pleasures of being alive, he was not eager to return to the the sunken city.
"Are you hurt master?"  Rem inquired as she looked from among the tentacles.  Jean took a deep breath.  Despite the tingling pleasure he felt with every blow, his body was still damaged with every strike and getting the wind knocked out of him still left his gasping as it did when he was a normal human being.  He exhaled and then took yet another deep breath before responding.  "Yup!  But that's the point!  C'mon give me another!"  He roared with joy as he flung himself at Rem and the tentacles once again.  Again, he was thrown into the pillar.  Again, he crumpled to the floor.  Again, rallied his increasingly battered body.  Again, he charged.

[info]So, venturing into unknown territory since no one else has done any training yet (I think) to use as a model.

Trying to train Improved Unarmed Strike so dunno what you want for a DC.  Looking at the calculator, it's an INT+WIS check?

INT+WIS check This dice roll has been tampered with!
Rolled 1d20+5 : 13 + 5, total 18
Also, not sure if Rem counts as being a trainer or if I am technically self-teaching.[/info]

[info]Assuming you are training for Improved Unarmed Strike. For monks specifically they have increased damage dice for higher levels, but for that one, will be a separate training, which requires this feat first for entry into it. I've updated the Techniques doc with these.[/info]After about 4 hours of training, you were able to make some progress.

"Master, are you sure you know what you're doing?"  Asked Renenutet as she watched the spectacle before her.  Jean was perched on top of a large ovoid boulder, waving his arms trying to keep balance.  "Nope! But I've seen a lot of movies and read a lot of manga and this kinda thing usually comes up in training scenes so I figured it was worth a try."  The boulder bucked and shifted beneath him as it resumed its movement.  Almost two dozen tentacles sprouted from the boulder at various angles which scuttled the giant rock about in its ascent up to the temple.  The boulder made an unexpected roll to the left and Jean lost his footing, falling onto his side and then rolling off the boulder onto the hard paving stones.  He stood up, brushing the dust off and taking a breath.  He looked to the various onlookers.  "Behold!  Your hero."  He walked over seized a nearby water bucket from one of the villagers to take a drink, sloppily pouring the water into his mouth and spilling most of it down his face and his front.  He returned the bucket to the stunned onlooker and then clambered back on top of his waiting steed.  Once again atop the boulder he struck a pose, pointing to the temple.  "Onward!"  He commanded the tentacles before stumbling as the boulder lurched beneath him once again.
A little more than an hour later Jean and the boulder were squeezing their way into the training hall of the temple and he was slowly arranging it into position, halfway between the wall and the center of the room.  He picked up the shattered wooden post that he had been punching before. His newfound strength had worn on the wood faster than he thought it would and his venture down to the edge of the island for a more durable target had turned into it's own training session when he had watched the erratic movement of the tentacles he had  anchored to the boulder.  The tentacles raised the boulder upright at Jean's desired location and he pointed at the boulder.  "Weight Control!"  He shouted as he also banished the tentacles.  The massive weight of the boulder crashed down, crumbling some of the stone beneath it and setting it firmly in its place.  Jean gave it a tentative push to assure himself of its stability.  Satisfied, he gave the stone a punch and laughed at the stinging pain from the new abrasion on his knuckle and at his triumphant completion of his quest.  At this moment Dalina came running into the room.  "What's going on?  The whole temple just shook!"  Jean looked to her, grinning with determination.  "Training!"  He said as he began pounding  away at the stone.

QuoteThis was the 2nd Training used in the day, you could keep doing more if you're willing to do the penalties. See Forced Training in the Training rules.

The Constitution check would be:

DC 18 = (10 +2 +2 +2 +2)
If failed, you take 1d6 non-lethal damage, and become Fatigued.

Training
Will attempt 20 hours of training a day without sleep for a total of 5 attempts per day.  Not sure how much time is going to remain in day 1 so I will throw out 3 training tests.  Will do these 1 day at a time in case something changes from day to day.

Rough Status
Jean: Uninjured, Tired,

I tweaked the Training Rules a bit, updated the doc, and highlighted in bold what the changes were, let me know if you have suggestions:

Forced Training
Normally, a hero can undergo a total of only 8 hours of Training a day. If a hero wants to force themselves to continue training past 8 hours, then the hero must succeed on both the technique's Learn DC and a Constitution check (DC 10 +2 per extra hour) at the end of the training session. If the Constitution checks fails, the hero suffers 1d6 nonlethal damage for each extra hour above 8 hours. However, if the character still succeeds their Learn DC, then they still make progress. A character that suffers nonlethal damage from Forced Training becomes fatigued. If they were already fatigued, than they become exhausted.

If learning a particular technique requires a mentor, then the mentor will also have to roll the same Constitution check, if they fail, their attempts at mentoring are not successful, and the trainee resolves the Training attempt as Self Teaching.

For example, after Amelia trained Knowledge (religion) twice for the full 8 hours. She can then attempt a 3rd Training Session, since she's not using an Expedited Training, this training attempt will be another 4 hours. Therefore the DC will be 18.

Self-Teaching
A hero can forgo the requirement of a tutor, mentor, or a teacher, however in this case, the path to learn the technique is fraught with many more difficulties and mistakes. The DCs are increased +8 for each Technique, and a full session of a successful training only counts for half the value. For example, if the Basic Martial Technique Use Ki requires 4 Successful Training, a Successful Training will give +.5 rather than +1 to the attempt.
