Letina Rae Deslégeech

Letina was excited. No only did she get to go visit her favorite place and people, her grandparents, but she was also going to get to see her cousin again! Both of their parents were going to be away for some reason or another and so had made arrangements for the girls to stay with their grandparents just outside of Mauville city. The young Deslégeech enjoyed visiting, especially since her grandparents would let her go out to play with the Pokémon that people left for them to take care of. To be honest, she would not be surprised if most of them gained more experience on the days she visited than they did on a normal day with her grandparents. The last time she had seen Lynne, the girl had also seemed to enjoy going out to play with the Pokémon. Letina hoped her cousin still liked it.

As Lynne had not yet been dropped off when Letina arrived, the blonde rushed up to her mother's old room to upack. She would be there for a week and so had brought the necessary amount of luggage. Her grandmother liked to joke that she was moving in with all the stuff she would bring, but Letina did not understand why. She needed all this stuff. What if one of the Pokémon got mud on her dress and she had to change? What if she fell into the pond and needed to use her spare underwear and socks? What if she fell in two days in a row? Then she would have needed TWO spare sets of underclothes PLUS extra outer clothes. And what if her parents needed to be away for longer than intended and so she needed even more clothes? Thus, it was safe to say that Letina always packed enough clothes and supplies for twice as long as necessary. She knew her grandparents had clothes washing machines, but really, who would wear the same outfit twice in the same week? Her parents certainly would not.

On top of all the clothes, Letina had brought her bag of travel companions. Quilz, the Cyndaquil Plush that was oh-so-cute-and-cuddly, always got the best spot, next to her pillow. And then there was Quils, Quilina, and Quilana, all of which were also different Cyndaquil plushies who got to sit or lie in various places around the room. Blaise was the final plush; the lone Torchic who sat on the opposite side of her pillow.

Ah! There! Finished! The girl admired her organizing skills. Clothes hanging in the closet, toiletries in their proper basket hanging on the door, plushies all around. Yes, this was good.

Lynne was being sent to her grandparents for a while, her parents were going on some sort of business trip. Something about a bunch of breeders getting together for some reason or another. After hearing that she was going to be going to her grandparents, Lynne sort of tuned the rest out as children are prone to do, and instantly went about packing. She made sure to pack plenty of clothes for different types of activities. She was especially looking forward to playing with the Pokemon. She got to do that at home too, but somehow it was different at her grandparents. One thing Lynne would never forget is the camera that her father had given her. Her cousin Letina would also be there! It had been a while since she saw her last, but the two tended to get along, despite their differences.

The ride to her grandparent's house was pretty long, when she got out of the car she stretched her legs and with some effort managed to drag her suitcase out. It was almost bigger than she was. It was a comical sight, a small girl dragging such a large suitcase across the yard towards the house. Lynne wouldn't have it any other way, she packed her things, so she would carry them. There were Pokemon all around and she could hardly contain herself. It took all of her will power to actually make it to the door, instead of just dropping her luggage on the pathway and running out to play with all of the cute creatures. She managed to get into the house, and into the room that she would be sharing with Letina.

As she walked in, Letina seemed to have just finished organizing the room. Everything was nice and neat. Lynne pulled her suit case behind her grunting, while she attempted to wave to Letina. She got her bed and dropped the suitcase to the ground, panting. She reached into the suitcase, pulling a few things out as she looked for her camera, tossing them on the bed. "Hi Letina! Your Cyndaquil plushies are really cute!" she retrieved her camera after a moment and grabbed Letina by the hand. "Come on! Let's go play with the Pokemon! She went rushing out of the house, flying by her parents that were talking to her grandparents, as she ran over to the Pokemon area. It was time to play!

Startled at the sound of someone lugging something heavy behind her, Letina quickly turned around. She had been so lost in her own little world as she set up that she had failed to notice the arrival of her cousin. Letina returned the wave and watched as Lynne dragged her extremely large suitcase over to the other bed. Did the girl not know that it was easier if you had several smaller bags? She made sure to keep things in specific bags. One set of casual day clothes, her daily necessities, and Quilz all stayed in her backpack, just in case she got separated from the rest of her luggage. Then she had one suitcase for her clothing and another bag for her plushies.

"Thank you! They're my favorites!" She grinned at the compliment about her plushies. She would have to share her secret with Lynne later it seemed, for as soon as the other girl had pulled a camera out of her bag, she was grabbing Letina's hand and running out the door.

"But what about your clothes!?" The blonde asked as she found herself being dragged past their grandparents and her aunt and uncle. "They'll get wrinkled if you let them stay in the suitcase too long!" Ah, but they were already outside. Oh well.

Switching into play mode, Letina joined her cousin in running to where the friendly Pokémon of the daycare center were kept. She wondered what cute Pokémon were there today! If it was one thing the two girls really had in common, it was their love of cute Pokémon. The ones she could see right away did not all please her. A Mr. Mime stood nearest the entrance, seemingly excited about something. Those guys creeped Letina out. A Carnivine sat by a tree, its mouth wide open to lure insects in... It seemed there were no insect Pokémon in the area that day. Letina hoped it was because her grandparents put them in another area. If this guy was here, though, he must be a fairly friendly one. A Nidoran♂ was off by the pond and seemed to be trying to court a Nidoran♀. And... there! A Ralts! It seemed to be sitting and contemplating life.

Pointing at it excitedly to alert her cousin, Letina dashed off towards the Ralts. She stopped a few feet away from it and called to it so it knew she was there and friendly. "Hi, there!" She called to it. "Aren't you a cute little critter? Want to come play with me?" It was a rule her grandparents had made if they were going to play with the Pokémon. They always had to make sure the Pokémon was okay with being played with before they could touch it. There were only a few times when Letina had broke the rule herself... All of which were justified, as they had been Cyndaquil. Who could hold themselves back from hugging a Cyndaquil upon sight?

Lynne heard her cousin's complaints about her clothes, but she didn't worry too much. The Pokemon wouldn't care if her clothes were a little wrinkly! The assortment of Pokemon she had seen so far didn't seem like they were ones that wanted to play. The Ralts was pretty cute, and Lynne crouched down to take a picture of him. click. She went up and patted the Ralts too, since it was already playing with Letina, it should be okay if she did it too, right? She scanned the area looking to see if there were some other Pokemon. The Nidoran pair seemed more interested in each other than the children. Mr. Mime looked cute, but he wasn't exactly Lynne's favorite. And Carnivine isn't a Pokemon that a child wants to play with. It's scary. A bit further away, she saw a Chimchar. Her mouth opened wide with excitement as she shook Letina's shoulder.

Letina! Look! A Chimchar! It's so cute!" Before Letina could respond, Lynne had started to dash over towards it, hoping that her cousin and the Ralts would follow. She had her camera out again. click. then realized that maybe taking a picture counted as playing. "Chimchar! Let's play!" she looked at the fire-type with a look of pure bliss. The Chimchar looked pretty happy too, as Lynne began to cuddle it, squealing in joy.

The Ralts chirped at Letina's attention, but turned away from her a little, as if to say that it would rather be left alone to its thoughts than to play. Letina shrugged. Perhaps it was contemplating why its trainer would just leave it there by itself? She remembered feeling that way the first time her parents had left her by herself with her grandparents.

"Well, if you want to play later, I'll be around!" She told it.  Spotting Lynne, she ran over to also play with the Chimchar.

"What a cutie!" The girl said, poking the Chimchar's face. "Chimchar, can I play, too?!"

As the two played with Chimchar, Lynne suddenly climbed up onto a nearby rock. She took a couple of pictures of Letina playing with the Chimchar, and shouted down to her. "Letina! I'm going to become the greatest photographer! And catch all of the cutest Pokemon! It is gonna be my goal!" The girl looked a little off balance as she was perched atop the rock, making her proclamation. She looked around the various areas that the Pokemon would be and so many of them were frolicking. It would be a dream to have a bunch of Pokemon that could all play together, and be in all of her pictures. She called back down to her cousin. "What do you want to be when you grown up Letina?" She had a great smile on her face as she asked her cousin about her dreams.

"Woah, a photographer?!" Letina watched her cousin. Photographers got to travel the world, taking pictures of Pokémon, trainers, and cool places from all over! Lynne definitely had a big dream! "You can take pictures of all your cute Pokémon and make them stars!" She began imagining Lynne releasing postcards and greeting cards and calendars with cute Pokémon as the main focus.

"I'm going to be the best Cyndaquil trainer there ever was!" She announced. "I'm going to catch every Cyndaquil I find, and then, I'll bring them all here to train them! I'll breed them, and enter them into contests!" Her entire Pokémon related world revolved around Cyndaquil and their evolutions. Well, other Pokémon were important, too. Her mother had started with a Torchic! Although he was no longer with them, Letina remembered her mother's Blaziken fondly. It was because of him that she also wanted a Torchic when she was finally allowed to have her Pokémon. She would name it after him!

Suddenly remembering something, Letina shook her head sadly and looked at the ground. "Daddy doesn't want me to do that, though. He says I should be a doctor." A tear rolled down her cheek as she recalled the conversation. She quickly wiped it away and turned back to the Chimchar.

"Lynne, take a picture of us!"

Lynne shifted precariously in her perch as her cousin talked about her dream. click. click. Lynne snapped a couple pictures of Letina and Chimchar playing and cuddling, before hopping back down to the ground. She showed the pictures to her cousin while talking. "That's dumb, Letina! Just because your dad wants you to be a doctor doesn't mean you can't also have Pokemon! You can be a doctor and a Pokemon trainer! Even though you might not become the strongest trainer, or go around collecting all the badges like some kids do you can have a lot of Pokemon friends and have fun with them!"

Lynne looked pouty, annoyed that one of her best friends and cousin would be told that she couldn't be a Pokemon trainer. Her parents always told her to follow her dreams, and right now she dreamed of taking pictures of all the cute Pokemon she could find, maybe even some of the not cute ones if they looked cool. But to be told not to have Pokemon? That seemed silly! "You know, Letina being a doctor is cool too. There might not be a lot of time to catch and play with Pokemon while you're in school and learning, but after that you will be a grown up! Then you can catch all of the Cyndaquils you want!" Maybe she had the wrong idea, but to Lynne it seemed to make sense. A grown up can do whatever they want to do!
