Golas Rorn

The large man loved every minute of it when it was announced that he received third place for the fashion show. He had grinned widely then, laughing as no one else but Golas could laugh, proving the fact that he was indeed the handsomest. Of course, he really wasn't as Callista got first place in the show, and Kryas came in second. But to Golas, the feat had given more strength to his constant proclamation of being the 'strongest and handsomest' of the guild.

Once that fashion show was done, he had gone back to Simon and had practically begged the shopkeeper to let him keep the clothing. Eventually Golas had offered up money, and after that appeared out of the shop wearing the tuxedo-like outfit. But as he proceeded back to the guild, he felt that something was off. He had ventured to the various meat stalls around, and had even thrown some of the young children of the town on his back giving them short piggy-back rides, thinking a regular walk around the town would help, but still, somehow with the new clothes something felt off.

It wasn't until he saw Sophie dusting away at the floors that he realized what it was. His eyes widened from the revelation, and he immediately called out to the short guild-mate, closing the distance with his large and long legs.

"Sophie! Teach me to be a..." He paused thinking of the right word.

"MAID!"

Cook, clean, organize. Such things nearly dominated the young maid's life during  her work days. Sophie took her job very seriously - No spot would be missed, and no stomach would go empty! Despite the nearly overwhelming effort it took to keep such a large guild hall in order...Sophie enjoyed nearly every moment of it. Being able to make her guild mates happy meant the world to her. Knowing she wasn't the best in combat, she made sure to put in her all as a maid, so while taking breaks from missions, the others could feel at home.

"Phew!" Sophie wiped a small bead of sweat from her forehead, having finished sweeping the entire hall. At times, being the only maid proved difficult. The guild was large, and Sophie was small. Of course, her little teleporting broom trick did help at times. She assumed the reason for a lack of help had to do with the guild's size. When she had joined originally, it wasn't quite as large. but now, as more people poured in, the guild hall was getting dirty quicker. At times she questioned whether or not she could keep up! At least she wasn't the only cook.

The maid looked up, a familiar voice drawing her attention. She smiled as Golas approached, grateful for a chance to take a break and maybe converse for a bit. Sophie was quick to notice his attire, which seemed quite different from his usual get-up. It seemed, though, that the red-headed giant had come to her with a purpose. He was quick to state his business, hardly giving the maid a chance to even say hello.

"Sophie! Teach me to be a..."

"MAID!"

Sophie paused, as if questioning whether or not she'd heard him right. Golas wanted to be....a maid?

She stared into the man's eyes, a rather uncharacteristic seriousness washing over Sophie's features. "First of all, I think you mean a butler." The maid stated. "Second of all, how serious are you?" Sophie's expression remained the same. This was a serious matter. This job was no joke!....But, at the same time, Sophie couldn't deny she needed some help. Being the head maid, she knew it would become her duty to mold Golas into a respectable butler.......She'd figure it out, somehow.

The large man listened intently to the maid's questions.

"A butler! That must be the word I was thinking of." At the next question Golas smiled wider. He laughed heartily then, and was about to pat Sophie's back in his usual rough way, but stopped midway as he realized the girl's frame might not have quite handled the pounding so well.

Instead, he placed his hands on his thighs and stared at the girl, crouching slightly to be at eye-level with her.

"As serious as I can ever be little missy!" He grinned. "I can get started just now! Watch this." Golas looked around, his eyes scanning the room, until it found a broom lying against the walls. He rushed over there, grabbed the tool, and began to 'sweep' the floor. Of course, with his massive strength, Golas' sweeping looked a bit too imprecise. As the broom swept in unusually large angles, hitting and scraping the floor with such abandon, it felt as if his sweeping could seriously hurt someone. With each swing there was an audible crack, but to the large man so caught up in his frenzy, he barely noticed.

But the broom could take no more, and as Golas' next swipe reached the floor, the stick burst, and the broom's brushes splattered unbound. Golas looked up, his eyes uncharacteristically full of worry.

"Butler work can't be so hard." In truth, he really had no idea what a butler was, he figured it was a type of maid. A male one.

Sophie cringed as Golas gave the broom a beating. Thank goodness it hadn't been -her- broom. Despite the obnoxious display, the maid couldn't help but giggle. He seemed serious, and if he was, Sophie would be sure to teach him everything he needed to know!

?Ok, ok. Lets stop that, come with me.? She told him, motioning for Golas to follow. Reaching a broom closet, Sophie closed the door behind the two, and took a large book from one of the shelves. Her seriousness returned then as she slammed the dusty book on top of a barrel. ?First things first! You need to get familiar with the contents of these pages!? Sophie told him as she brushed a layer of dust from the cover.

The book looked poorly made, the pages having been tied together by small pieces of fishing line. The book's title read ?Made Rools?. Having been raised on a farm, Sophie hadn't exactly received the best education...Looking inside, it was easy for anyone with a basic knowledge of grammar to see that Sophie had no idea how to properly write.?You can keep it with you. I'll teach most of it myself, but think of it as a guide if you get confused!? She grabbed one of the spare brooms in the closet, taking hold of it as if preparing to sweep. ?Watch closely Golas! Hold the broom like this, it helps you control it better.? She gently swept back and forth. ?You don't need to be rough, just run the tips of your broom along the floor gently. Do you understand?? She held the broom out to her butler-in-training.

The large man dutifully obeyed the maid. It was almost amusing seeing a short small girl leading a large and towering man and teaching him how to do things. In all seriousness, Golas relished every moment of it. When Sophie slammed the book on top of a barrel, Golas cringed.

"Reading?" Golas looked suspiciously at the fishing line bound book. The large man never really did enjoy reading, though it was a skill he had learned at a young age back in his own homeland. Slowly he pulled it open, and his look of trepidation changed to one of complete agreement. The words were easy to understand, not to mention all the visual drawings displayed in the books with various tips and tricks on how to do maid duties. It was a plethora of information, at least in Golas' point of view, and he was tempted to simply sit down and leaf through the entire book, if it could be called as one.

Sophie began demonstrating however, and the moment she did so Golas examined carefully. But something still alluded him.

"Gentle I understand. But just the tips?" Wasn't it always better to use every part of the weapon then simply the tip? But Golas still nodded, as he took the offered from Sophie. He proceeded to start sweeping, he started rough at first, but when the broom started to crack from his first swipe, Golas had actually listened and eased up. His sweeping was still tense, but he did much better than before. Though, it was easy to tell that the giant was still unused to it, and if anyone would have seen them, would have found the sight of the giant sweeping with a much smaller broom to be amusing.

Golas grinned at Sophie.

Sophie watched the giant carefully as he took hold of the broom. This would be his first test - Would he be able to adapt? Golas was the strong, ruthless type. The maid couldn't help but wonder if he really had the ability to take on the gentleness required of maids and butlers.

*Swish, swoosh*

She smiled brightly, clapping her hands quick but lightly, as Golas succeeded in taking in what she had taught just moments ago. "That's great, Golas!" She praised.

"Ehm..." She coughed, her more stern side taking over again. "While sweeping is an incredibly important part of our job, so is taking care of our guild mates!" Sophie explained. "In fact, that comes even before sweeping." She flipped a page or two into the book. A sketchy picture enveloped half of the page. It looked as though she'd attempted to draw the dining room, but her perspective was way off...causing the table to look as if it was hallway up the wall. Child like drawings of forks and spoons also littered the page. "We can do that in three main ways, Golas. You'll always find more ways to do a good job, but if you ever need guidance, just remember these basics!"

At the bottom of the page were three bullet points.

  • "Kleening"
  • "Kichen"
  • "Happy"

Surprisingly, she had managed to spell one thing correctly.

"Cleaning is a part of taking care of the guild mates!" She nodded to the broom. "A clean home is a happy home. We want them to be happy at all times." She told him. "But, we already kind of covered sweeping and stuff, so..."

Moving onto the next point, she opened the broom closet door. "Next on the list is the kitchen~". She became cheerful Sophie again as the word kitchen left her lips. The maid motioned for Golas to follow yet again, leading him to the dining room. It was fairly quiet that day, a few guild mates here and there enjoying a meal and conversation. "I don't think we should start you off cooking, but it's best you learn serving." With almost a skip in her step, she made her way to the kitchen entrance - but stopped before going inside.

"Listen Golas...No, touching, anything." She warned, sending him a serious look. "There's a lot of food in there, but it's for the guild mates! Right now, you're a butler. It's your duty to take care of their needs, not your own!" Her warning mainly came from a fear of how much self control Golas actually had. If this was going to work, he'd need to resist the temptations of the guild's wonderful, fantabulous, amazing smelling meats and baked goods.
