Continuing the journey, the sun had started to set, though, the group still had a few hours of daylight left. Everyone knew it would be time to camp soon. According to the map, the next village was Spirnocum, the first one out of Meilstora. But that was still a good 24 miles away. The horses too began to tire and slow.

Kobolds are creatures of the dark, found most commonly in enormous underground warrens or the dark corners of the forest where the sun is unable to reach. They form roving bands of small groups up on the surface, and equip themselves with any gear they could find. Covered with fur, they have long nails that serve as weapons. In the Dungeon, their drop items are generally their nails, though at times, their fangs could drop.

"Sounds like we have even more fighting to do. We should see if we can get a contract with the guards to see if we can get some extra pay for doing their work." Taiga smirked.

"We already got away with a lower toll, I don't know if reaching out to the guard and giving them our details is the safest." Eydis responded to Taiga's idea. "Though I have to admit, for a territory of the god of war, it seems fairly unprotected. Or maybe they just like seeing if travelers can defend themselves." Edyis half-jokingly surmised.

Taiga slows the horses before he hands the reins off to Mimsy again before saying, "Do you think you can hit it like you tried to do with the goblins Sis? Yuki and I can try to sneak ahead to give you a headcount."

"Yuki looks like more monster bandits looking for easy pickings. They are some kind of dog-headed things. I would rather them not spoke the horses so the two of us should scout ahead again while big sis gets her spell ready."

Tai will wait for the others to get ready before attempting to stealth to give Edyris a means to aim her shot

As taiga dips low into the tall grass he felt a boiling in his blood as if something primal was sturring and in a moment he felt like he was at home in the wilds around the village. He flattened his body almost getting on all fours as his tail flicked side to side. Someone was trying to threaten his family, get in their way he could not allow that.

Tapping into his primal nature his footsteps barely made a sound as he dashed ahead to scoop out the scene. In that moment they were nothing more than prey and he was the preditor moving like a shadow towards the kill.

As Taiga slinks into the bushes Yuki looks back to the rest of the party from her perch on the bench. "A dog? Seems a bit much for some mangy stray."

"Kobold." Sotu corrected, and watched Taiga pick his way stealthily across the side of the road. "We fight?"

"Kobolds... Okay." Replied Yuki as she drew a kunai and her katana once again. She absentmindedly tapped the back of her katana on her shoulder as she looked to where Taiga disappeared to. "Maybe we should tie up the horses? We got lucky they didn't bolt last time when we left them alone. Unless someone wants to stay behind and keep an eye on them?"

Eydis grimaced at the sight of the creature, "Ugh, kobolds. I'll hang back and prepare some spells defensively if they approach. I've dealt with enough of those when I was younger."

Eydis will guard the carriage, and will spend that time stacking spell 'ammo' onto her crossbow. Spending 2 mana to have 2 uses of Rune of Logi prepared.

"Alright, guess I'll go check things out. I'll see if I can draw them out into the open. Goddess willing." Said Yuki as she waded into the bushes on the opposite side of the road that Taiga had, taking a low crouching walk and descending into the scrub.

"Mmmm...." Sotu hemmed quietly looking over at Mimsy. Knowing her sister, she would probably head into danger to help the others which meant there was only one course of action: hurt the kobolds before they hurt Mimsy. Sotu hopped off the side of the cart and followed after Taiga and Yuki as quietly as she could.

Initiative starts at 130 ft. away. (See below Perceptions/Stealths). Taiga and Asta, your stealth rolls will carry over, so you will still get your surprise round, and attack vs flat-foot. But you'll have to spend a number of rounds getting there at half your movement (due to stealthing, unless you are willing to take the -5 penalty for normal movement, let me know, as that might changes things. Currently I'm assuming you move half your speed. I'll assume Sotu moves at 25 ft. speed due to her racial).

I'll update perceptions as the group closes in. Since we're starting at 130 ft. away, I'll withhold that for now. If you rolled low, you can feel free to trigger another Perception with a Move action.

The tall grass in the area was just enough for Yuki, Taiga, and Sotu to dash into and hide in them to approach the kobolds. There were some rocks and trees along the way as well, which provided enough cover or concealment to steadily approach.

Mimsy takes the offered reins from Taiga, then slows the horses down to a slower trot. She didn't want to make it too obvious that the dog-like things were spotted after-all.

Mimsy took a deep breath, trying to calm the bubbling anxiety within her. This would be the second fight in the day, this time around it felt as if the group was a bit more prepared than before. Without turning around, Mimsy spoke to Eydis.

]"Eydis... when the battle starts, I'm going to rush in to help everyone too. I hate to ask... but can you take over the reins when I do?" Thinking about it, having Eydis drive the wagon along with Taiga would probably be the best idea. She made a note to herself to bring it up to everyone later.

Mimsy slows carriage down to 5 ft. per round.

With the first bullet thrown, Mimsy took that as the signal that the fight had begun. Ensuring her rapier and shield were ready, she hopped off the wagon.

"It's all yours Eydis!" The hume bunny said as she dashed forward.

Kobolds, the surface variety anyway, are relatively weak things. Knowing this, and seeing that her sister was still unhurt she managed to keep her simmering rage in check and burst out from her cover to lop off the closest one's head.

Taiga seeing the others attack takes the chance when the kobolds were distracted to sneak behind them and huddled on top of a rock to maintained unseen by those little dog monsters.

Moving full length without breaking stealth ready to attack if any of the kobolds on his side make a move.

Using the rock and the height difference for as much cover as I can.

Eydis is overcharging damage. Spell doesn't have a range, the weapon that's enchanted does. And I don't believe the spell overcharging can modify that range.

Now that everyone began to fight, the number of enemies became a bit more clear. What also became more clear was exactly how out of position everyone was.

"Everyone is so split up! And far away...it's going to be hard to support from here, but I need to do something." Eydis takes a calming breath, then scouts out her best target. "I think thinning out what Taiga has to deal with is best. It's a long shot from here, and I don't think I can get close enough to make it better. But I need to try!"

With determination, Eydis levels her crossbow. "Why can't I get a normal shot lately..." She grumbles as she fires the enchanted bolt.

Day 2 - Early evening

Mimsy bit her lip when he spell failed. She knew the kobolds were starting to keep their distance, so she guessed her adopted younger sister would probably charge straight for the largest group. Thinking quick, and knowing her spell had a short range, she decided to make her way that way instead, planning to recast her spell again when she was able.

Since spell failed, will use the move action to go NE instead, gives Mimsy both options of going E or N.

Mimsy's spell had failed and the injuries from the kobold's sling-stones were starting to hurt, despite this Sotu stuck close to her sister and fought back the urge to charge the mongrels and succumb to hot white wrath. Instead, she moved defensively and kept her guard up as she moved along with Mimsy to the northeast.

"Huh. They're running away. Well, I guess they do that once they start dying." Eydis mutter to herself, taking up the reigns of the horses to follow after the group. I wonder if these kids have learned their lesson at all with this one. Maybe they'll be a little less restless.

Eydis moves the cart forward. I don't know the move speed, but I doubt it'll get anywhere close to the group/kobolds.

Mounts in Combat
Horses, ponies, and riding dogs can serve readily as combat steeds. Mounts that do not possess combat training (see the Handle Animal skill) are frightened by combat. If you don't dismount, you must make a DC 20 Ride check each round as a move action to control such a mount. If you succeed, you can perform a standard action after the move action. If you fail, the move action becomes a full-round action, and you can't do anything else until your next turn.

Your mount acts on your initiative count as you direct it. You move at its speed, but the mount uses its action to move.

When you get a chance, Eydis to roll Ride check, at DC 20. If you succeed, you'd still have a Standard action left, use that as well. Otherwise, feel free to state different actions.

Taiga feeling his heart pumping and adrenaline coursing through his body feels his body clench as he saw another kobold fleeing ahead of him. He would not allow them to regroup and get help if he had any say in the matter. Roaring loudly as he stood over the corpse of one of the Kobolds he went rushing towards Yuki and the poor creature that was just out of reach. The nearest kobold, now next to Mimsy, was unfortunately positioned in a way that Sotu couldn't get to it quickly. However that wouldn't stop her from attempting to place herself in a prime location to run it down and decapitate it when the opportunity arose. She took off at full tilt, the fact that at least ten feet of hedges stood in her way was little deterrant as she attempted to vault over them during her sprint.

Seeing the kobold far out of reach and currently not able to regroup Taiga stands hands bloodied and pushes out the animosity with one solid exhale. Giving a silent prayer for them to have a peaceful existence in the next life he pivots on his heels and begins printing back to the cart. "Thank you for the spell, Sis it really saved my butt back there."

It is in the moment that he tries to climb back on the cart that he realizes how badly he was wounded as he felt his wounds squelch and his body sag like a sack of potatoes as the last of the adrenaline leaves his system.

Day 2 - Early evening

Another monster down, slain by dearest little Sotu. Mimsy simply smiled as she had watched her adopted sister take down the monster who had tried to vainly run away from them. Mimsy knew her younger sister was quite strong, the years they've spent together since the Carrots family had decided to adopt Sotu only drove that point in further. She had seen Sotu take down multiple of them. It was no surprise at all that a single well-placed hit from Sotu's falchion was enough to down that monster.

Mimsy was absolutely proud. She couldn't help but pat her sister's head and congratulate her.

"I'm proud of you for taking those monsters down Sotu!"

Those despicable and mindless monsters that threaten everyone else up on these roads. Monsters that fill the pages of all those adventure stories she had read and heard about. Oh Mimsy was excited. As she brandished her rapier, and went up to the dying kobold, she couldn't help but feel like one of those dashing adventurers. Saving people, exploring the unknown, and slaying monsters.

This was her first kill. But at the same time, all Mimsy saw was a monster to be hunted. Crouching down closer to the downed monster did Mimsy begin to point her thin weapon at it. Slowly and deliberately, she moved her rapier, an inch at a time, sinking downwards, piercing into throat of the filthy monster, watching in an almost fascinated gaze as the kobold's blood splashed up.

Fullround: Coup de grace

The still warm blood reminded Mimsy that this was a surface monster. And as such, being removed from the Dungeon for so long, wouldn't disappear into a puff of ash leaving behind crystals. Their death would simply result in a more regular death, similar to that of other animals and people; eventually leaving behind a corpse to fester and rot. In the end however, it was still a monster.

Noticing Yuki still locked in combat, Mimsy couldn't quite tell if Yuki was injured or not. But with this monster at her feet now dead and lifeless, Mimsy figured it was right to move on to the next one. Back in the village, Mimsy was always one to lend a helping a hand, whether it was aiding her siblings with any chores or farm work, or even helping out neighbors and other villagers with any oddjob.

"Sotu dearest... Would you help me help Yuki?" Mimsy said, smiling innocently at Sotu as she used her hand to brush through Sotu's hair in a gentle-like manner. "She might need our help killing the rest. You'll help your big sister, wont you?"

The kobold had just pulled out its spear which arguably was more of a threat than the obnoxious sling stones she had been pelted with earlier. "Ah. Yeah. Let's go." she affirmed flatly, then took off at a run south toward the road so she could get a clear path to charge the kobold.

"Tch." Eydis immediately responds to her brother's plea, obviously irked. "If ye all wan'ed ta get support, ye shount've chased so far." The elf grumbled under her breath in an oddly Dwarvish manner, one that any of her acquaintances from the orphanage would recognize. "Take the reigns, Taiga, I'm gonna prep my spell, just in case." Eydis tosses the reigns into her brother's hands, once more going through the motions of enchanting her crossbow, runes manifesting in the air for a few seconds before the magic seeps into the weapon. "Get as close as you can so I can line up a better shot. They're too far, and I don't want to trust luck to succeed."

She then shouts out, as loud as she can so it can be heard 300 feet away.

"YUKI! RETREAT TO MIMSY!"

With any luck, the kobold will follow her and shorten the distance more. Even if the shot itself is easy, I hate long shots. Eydis hopes to herself as she positions herself.

Eydis throws Taiga the reigns, telling him to move as close as he can, then casts Rune of Skadi on her crossbow.

The kobold had managed to avoid dying by her compatriot's hand, and was sidling backwards probably hoping to position itself better. Sotu would not allow this if she could, and broke into a charge, brandishing her falchion in a vicious swing.
