Title: [Diane] Chapter 2: The Hero's Home
Post by: Throndir on June 02, 2019, 12:06:05 PM
Location: New World - Chynance Village - Geren's Home
Date: Day 1 - 5:20 PM - 6:19 PM

"I know of iron, coal, and steel. But... Solfur?" He asked, pronouncing the strange word. "I haven't heard of that before. Is it a material back in your own world then? I wouldn't even begin to know how to start getting that. There isn't much trade... but I pay attention to the traders that do come to town though. For the most part our village doesn't get much trade at all, even though we're near the center of this country. At least our roads are busy with traders passing by, but nothing really convinces them to setup shop due to the fact we really have nothing to offer except for our Inn and Tavern."

"If you're looking for iron, our smith will have some. Steel is made in a much smaller quantity though, but I already made plans with him to sell the weapons on his behalf at the closest city of the Felencorp."

When you reached over to kiss him on the forehead, Hunt blushed fiercely. "I'm not actually very good at fighting... Kay-Kay tells me I just need to practice more... But I can spar! It would help me get better too!" He forced a smile. "But you're a great hero! A lot of other heroes are in denial sometimes... especially the first few days... but you already started trying to help everyone. There was a story Kay-Kay told me before of a mad hero that even our knights couldn't handle." He looked down. "Umm... I admit I was kinda scared because of stories I heard from that mad hero... but hero..." He looked up towards you, then began to reach his arms out.

QuoteHunt attempts to hug you, any resistance and he'll stop.

"... I'm glad you're a nice one."

The knight took the branch, and looked it over. "It can do as a weapon if it came for it, but it's thin in various places and would break down in a few hard swings." The knight said. "If a staff is your preferred weapon though, we have that along with many others that we've brought with us. There is also an artifact that our kingdom has prepared for you back in the capital." There was a slight glare from Kenver towards Kayden, but Kenver chose not to say anything. Kayden chose to ignore it as well. "If you would like, after your bath and dinner, I could show you the weapons. Are you well-versed in martial combat and weaponry?" Kayden asked.

Both men blushed when you reached over to kiss them lightly on the cheek. Kenver recovered quicker than Maban. "A workshop... It doesn't quite have one of those, but it wouldn't take much work to convert one of the existing rooms." Kenver mentioned. "We've maintained the home for generations now. And of course my brother and I would rebuild sections of it when we need to, much like our ancestors in the past. The priests of Chynance village have guarded that summoning circle for hundreds of years."

"I'll lead the way then... When we get there, I'll prepare the bath." Maban said as he began to walk away from the rest, beckoning everyone to follow him.

"I'll stop by my camp while you freshen up, hero Diane." Kayden said. "I'll have a few of my fellow knights bring a selection of weapons and armors. Though if there are any you are most interested in, that would work as well. Some of the armors might not fit the best... But we can have you fitted later."

"I should be the one thanking you!" Gerens said one more time as he waved you goodbye. "I'll be here for a couple more days, but with the wagon fixed... I think I can bump up my departure. I'll make sure to visit." He said, smiling warmly.

QuoteFeel free to ask any questions in the journey. Otherwise, they'll continue in silence, with occasional breaks of greetings from other townsfolk to both you, and the two priests. Unless otherwise stated, Maban would be in the lead, followed by you and Kenver, lastly Kayden and Hunt will bring up the rear.

As you went through town, you realized that you were headed towards the two largest buildings in the entire village. These made use of bricks and stone as well, compared to the rest of the village which stuck with wood, occasional bricks, and usually having a thatched roof on top. Soon enough you were there. The largest building had three floors altogether where most of the other homes in the village had a single floor. There were many windows across the square building, and a tower seemed to protrude from the top of it as well. Towards the side there was a section that looked to be a stable. While further back and behind was evidence of another small building behind it.

Next to the large building was one that looked like a chapel of some sort. There was a tower attached to it, and in its yard to the side was a variety of grave markers. This building, like the larger one next to it, had its own proper roofing, and was also made out of bricks.

"Welcome to your new home." Kenver said proudly as he pointed towards the largest building. "The work of generations of my family..."

Speaking with Geren, "I would suggest holding off on getting anything yet, but I wouldn't turn down knowing where to get them if needed dear friend.  Also, if I can get the map, please come by the house they've built for me and we'll discuss things such as potential supply lines and lines of trade?"

Diane hugs Hunt tightly, "Is it ok if I treat you like the little brother I never had? And how do you know I'm not mad hmm?" She grins at him.

"I would prefer to try all sorts of weapons and armors before I settle on one.  I don't have any training otherwise, except how to swing a sledge hammer to break concrete and if needed, to the parts from an engine when they are otherwise being stubborn.  So a selection of weapons and armor would be best."

As they walk along a plethora of questions flow from her mouth, "What kind of geography is most common in this region?  What other countries are around us and how close are they?  What kind of help can you give me in materials and support for projects that could benefit Felencorp as a nation in whatever battles they are fighting.  I will also require you to provide me with a full workshop outside the house, more like an enlarged smithy, with multiple forges, and a team of smiths.  I think I can introduce to your people the steam engine all sorts of other technology.  And I'll need lots of coal and charcoal.  I think I can produce something that will without much effort past the normal, give you hot water most any time you want it, make grindstones move on their own in a steady pace.  I can even potentially make a wagon that can move without horses even on even terrain."

When they get to the house, both of her eyebrows raise almost to the sky, "I think perhaps you were expecting a hero of a much needier persuasion."  She looks around and then looks over at the small church.  And despite how nice it sounds to get cleaned up her face takes on a solemn look.   She looks at the three of them and then sighs, "I.  I need five minutes alone in the church.  I know it sounds horrible for me to ask, but there is something I have to sort out for myself."  She turns and walks towards the church her gait alters and she starts running, the enormity of everything fully hitting her as she does.  Not making it to the church, she runs through the graveyard and trips and falls.  Without a thought, she gets to her knees and begins to pray in a whisper, "Gaia, I know that's not your name, but I need a sign, guidance, something.  I'm in a world where magic is a thing and I've been taught my whole life it's blasphemous.  I just need to know, is this a gift you've given me and as such not blasphemous or should I just follow my path as I've always done?"  These whispered words come out around sobs and eventually, she just passes out right there in the graveyard, the grass soft enough to keep her from getting too hurt.

"Supply lines..." Gerens grinned. "I'm glad you share in the optimism! I have yet to start this new journey in my life as a merchant... But yes, I do wish to open an entire trade fleet one day! Hah... We shall see anyways. When that time comes, I could indeed more easily help you in figuring out where to get all of this, but as it stands... compared with the other merchants of Felencorp I would be at a disadvantage. I'll come over though later in the evening. Once you get that wagon fixed up, and hopefully when those people arguing still up on that hill come down, there's a few rounds I need to make with some of the craftsmen in the village... But I'll swing by the Hero's Home after. Perhaps I'll be in time for dinner!" He grinned.

He glanced back towards the hill in the distance. "Like most villagers here, I hope our two mayors get along with Kayden and the other knights soon. Sure, the reparations are a burden to everyone, and the Angwin brothers know this the most, probably, but it doesn't do anyone good butting heads with the Felencorp representatives all the time."

The boy hugged you tight. "Well... Anyone who can hug a person can't be mad Miss Diane! Kay-Kay doesn't like hugs. But hugs are always so warm, so I don't see why not!" Hunt said cheerily as he smiled brightly, but then he paused and frowned. "Not Miss Diane... Big sister Diane?" Hunt said hesitatingly as he pulled away from the hug, his eyes seeking approval.

"Hmm... We'll have you start with hammers then, but us knights have been preparing for your arrival, so we have plenty of different types of armors and weapons for you to try."

As the questions came in, it was mainly Kayden who answered most of them, being the most familiar with it all.

Quote"What kind of geography is most common in this region?"

"The geography is varied... I was told over a hundred years ago before the war had started, much of Felothia were plains, forests, and rolling hills. However, since the 'Shifting' had occurred, that brings in countries, villages, and new lands... Things are no longer clear cut. There are sections where a single mountain would appear surrounded by plains... Or even a dens and thick forest where once a large lake had stood. There is a little bit of everything now... There were places that had been jungles too that came in through the Shifting, though, with our temperate climates here, those ares tend to eventually die out, or freeze over the winter."

Quote"What other countries are around us and how close are they?"

"We are in the Northern Felencorp United Alliance. Before the war started, we were called the Kingdom of Felothia. But our nations had since become... more like a congregation of many many other micro nations and villages, such as Chynance, who are not from this world. In fact... Though I am a Knight of Felothia, my grandparents had been from a different world, one called Elodria. But around... 90 years ago the city they were living in found itself here, in the New World. To the north of our country is the Antwarch Dragonknight Kingdom. One of the other original inhabitants of our world. Their territories used to span all the way to the western coast. To our west is the Isikawa Sovereignty. That entire country appeared here in the New World perhaps two or three decades ago. To our southwest is the Kingdom of Bürsteig. A country that appeared here just a year ago. To our south is the Darmona Kingdom. A land ruled by monsters, that appeared here perhaps two... or three years ago at most. Lastly is the Baolong Dynasty a country that appeared here about three or four decades ago. In a way... Our piece of the Felencorp United Alliance is safely cushioned from the rest of these buffer countries, which allows our nation to handle most of the trade and commerce that go out to our neighbors. That said, our country too boast the largest armies, and most of the logistics in place for the war effort. We primarily help our allies on the war fronts to our south and east."

Quote"What kind of help can you give me in materials and support for projects that could benefit Felencorp as a nation in whatever battles they are fighting."

"Primarily you would have access to any training that we can give you, knowledge in our libraries, then of course tutors that you may need. Heroes are granted the blessings of the goddess, and our two priests here will likely help explore that with you. If not, we have able priests and scholars back in the capital that would help figure out what blessings you were provided. After that, our country as a whole can determine where best you fit. Apart from that, keep in mind he war's been plaguing this world for over a century now, in bursts and segments of peace and all out conflict. We can help provide what little we have, but most of the country's resources goes to the war effort. However... Depending on what blessings you were granted, you may be able to help procure resources from the other countries that were shifted here, that either refuse to grant us aid in the war effort, or have been proving difficult in getting their aid in war." The knight paused. "True, many nations and peoples who find themselves here in that phenomenon called the Shifting are very much not likely to aid in a war that was never theirs... But the demons are a threat to all humans and demihumans in this world... To let solely the knights of Felothia deal with that burden is but cowardice on their part."

Quote"I will also require you to provide me with a full workshop outside the house, more like an enlarged smithy, with multiple forges, and a team of smiths."

"As for a team of smiths... This may be difficult, as most craftsmen and smiths are already employed by our country in order to continually produce enough arms and weaponry for the conflict. But again, if you can prove to be an asset in this area, my superiors may grant it. But as I mentioned before, it solely depends on your blessings too and where my superiors believe you would be most beneficial in the war."

Quote"I think I can introduce to your people the steam engine all sorts of other technology.  And I'll need lots of coal and charcoal.  I think I can produce something that will without much effort past the normal, give you hot water most any time you want it, make grindstones move on their own in a steady pace.  I can even potentially make a wagon that can move without horses even on even terrain."

"That is intriguing... Though I admit that sounds something our scholars and mages would be more interested in. Water and even hot water isn't something that worries most people, as that could be done by a spell... However, there's many that do not bother with learning how to use magic, so may indeed be beneficial to them. Grindstones that move on their own is intriguing as well... It sounds like it can be done with earth magic, though I haven't heard of any amazing works such as those since the Idorian Magic Kingdom had fallen a decade ago. Theirs was a city full of magical equipment that they called 'magitools'. Our own countries mages are not as skilled in the craft as the Idorian mages, so for us, it's a craft that we've never managed to master."

The rest nodded at your request. Kayden and Hunt both started their journey towards the knight's camp to retrieve armor and weaponry. Maban mentioned that he'd start preparing the bath. Lastly, Kenver said he'll start preparing the food. With that, you made your way to the church.

Once you had passed out, you felt the cool sensation of fingertips touching your cheek.

Not only that, everything around you was deathly still. The leaves and shrubbery around you which had once been lightly moving due to a light breeze were static. The feel of wind across your face and body was non-existent. The sounds of village life or even of birds chirping and other wildlife was completely silent. The silence was broken by a familiar voice. The voice of the one who's fingers ad lightly touched your cheek: the green-haired armored woman who you have taken to calling 'Gaia'. Though the orange illumination of the evening skies covered the area in the warm light, the armored woman still looked like she was glowing. It wasn't overtly obvious, but it was more akin to looking much more vibrant than the rest of her surroundings. She had the same gentle smile on her features just as you had remembered.

"That path you follow now... Tell me Diane, what is it?"

Diane's eyes light up as Geren seems to grasp what she has in mind.  She winks, "I want to get you guys up and moving as fast as I can, maybe even leading a revolution in making the world different and new."

Looking down at Hunt she smiles, "Yes, big sister Diane.  If that's ok with you?" He actually looks like she may very well be looking at her own little brother, if she had one.

Listening to Kayden explain everything she's asked about she simply nods, `k"I think we need to get you guys up and running so that other nations pay you for goods they don't have, giving you more money to put into the war effort.  Although, I suppose that I could also make steam engines that are built into an armored frame that allows you to move troops with the engines while protecting them.  Heck, depending on if you have gun powder, I could even make rifles, pistols, cannons and arm those troop carriers with a movable cannon as well."

"I believe that you'll find that I can bring about an industrial revolution for your country and it's member nations.  If I can work with some of your wizards I can potentially fuse the technology I'm describing with magic and make it far more efficient.  I will need to work with someone to see what processes we can combined together naturally."

Waking up to the world that Gaia inhabits again, she looks up at the goddess and as she readjusts to being in this world, at least partly.  She sits up slowly and looks around for a moment, "My path is that of a mechanic, an every day person with the knowledge of how to analyze situations and use tools to work on machines.  I wasn't raised to see magic as allowable.  I mean, in my culture magic is against the rules of religion.  For God....er...goodness sake, there was a point where we drowned and burned people who did magic."  She sighs softly and looks at Gaia, "I am sorry to bother you, I just need to know, is magic going to send me to damnation?  Will I be punished for using it?  I am honestly just trying to reconcile myself to this world and magic is part of my religion and honestly, it logically doesn't fit.  So, is magic bad in this world as it is in mine?"

"A steam engine...? I admit I do not understand what you mean. Some sort of creation that makes use of steam? And gunpowder?" Kayden asked again. "Wizards... an interesting way to call them, but I suppose the majority of them are." The knight continued nodding to themselves. "Though I myself can use some magic."

It was then than Maban spoke who had been listening in on the conversation.

"If it's magic, we can teach you that, too. There's many things about being a hero that we need to teach you, but let's have you get used to everything tonight... And maybe tomorrow we can start."

"Yes... Or start training in weaponry."

"Diane's knowledge for what a hero is should come first." Kenver immediately said, to which Kayden simply waved a dismissing hand.

"In your previous world, magic was indeed something not looked upon favorably. However... here, it is different. Not only in idealogic views, but in terms of study and what is part of everyday life. So... let's study it as a mechanic. Much like the scientists, engineers, and mechanics of your world, take the mysteries around you and dissect it until you understand how it works. In Earth's history, sickness was once a mystery, pathogens weren't something that was even conceivable then. Yet in your current age they've created ways to alleviate or even cure them altogether. There are similar stories to other such fields...  Biology, botany, genetics, geology, paleontology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, engineering... just to name a few. In each of these fields were advances in the human knowledge of how the mysteries of the world worked."

"You are one who works with tools, right? That power that changes the environment around you, one called 'magic', is but another one of those tools. At least here in this world, it is there, and it is around you. It's something that can be seen, observed, and then measured and calculated. But it is up to you with how you accept it, if at all. In your own world's history, chemistry was one considered a kind of magic; something to be feared of or considered the occult. Yet to those that studied it, they themselves considered it as a science. Thus as the centuries went on, that craft soon came to be dissected, understood, and even acknowledged by the rest of the populace. And in the end... you have science."

"It is the nature of man to consider what they don't understand as something more mystical than what they truly are. If anything your Earth's history has shown that. And here... a different world of Earth, though they may follow a similar path, it is different too. Only you can choose your own path. Only you can decide what anything ever means to you." The girl smiled gently.

"I must be off, but can I give thee a parting a gift?"

Diane holds up a hand to the three of them, "I will need some rest before I start learning much of anything.  I think that perhaps an early morning run to wake me up and then we can proceed from there?  Some time learning what it means to be a hero and some time spent learning martial matters.  I am suprisingly focused, but I do have my limits."

Listening to the goddess, she nods at each point, her attention fully on the being.  When Gaia stops talking, she gets still and even allows her breathing to slow as she takes it all in.  When Gaia asks her question, she shakes her head, "You've given me insight, what more could I ask of you?"  She walks over and hugs Gaia tightly, provided she's allowed to.

The moment you began to walk towards her with the intent to hug her. The being smiled gently as the armor she wore simply disappeared, replaced with a flowing white robe. Without the bulk of her armor, helmet, or weapon, she looked a lot more fragile and gentler. She wasn't particularly tall either, and her youthful looks made her look to be 18 at the youngest, or perhaps somewhere in the early 20s.

She accepted the hug graciously, the lady's arms gently wrapping themselves around you as the being closed her eyes to enjoy the moment. Finally, before you pulled away, you felt a light kiss on you cheek. And at the same time time, even if you had your eyes closed, you would have seen a translucent green window appear with two text notifications in it.

You felt again the cool feeling of the wind flowing around you, and so too did you start to hear the sounds of village life once again. The sounds of a smith clanging on something, children shouting and playing in the distance, and the wildlife of birds chirping.

Another notification appeared.

As she awakes, Diane moves to get to her feet, doing so slowly, feeling different and a bit different, but she simply nods, "Thank you Gaia, I can move forward and do what I can to end this war."  With a resolute look on her face, she turns and heads for the house that was prepared for her, her mind full of ideas and her heart full of purpose.

Once she gets to the house, she walks up to the doors, opens one of them and strides in past all sorts of things towards the kitchens.  Spotting the closest thing she can find to a wood burning stove, she smiles and extends her hands towards it.  Imagining the changes she wants to take shape, an image of an older style steam engine from diagrams that she remembers, the inner workings having been drawn out in painstaking detail in a book she studied out of boredom once.  She takes a deep breath and mutters the word, [Reshape], her mind completely focused on the possibilities.  Once her handiwork is apparent, she steps back to inspect it, debating things to do better and looking for the flaws in what went wrong.

After studying the end results, she realizes that she hasn't eaten in almost a day.  This realization spurs her to start looking for food, the growling distracting her from her work.  She begins to rummage through the kitchens as much as she can without breaking anything.

When you went into the kitchen, no one was there. But there was evidence of it having been used. You indeed found the stove. It was similar in make and design as the one Gerens used back in his own home. You focused on the entirety of the oven, imagining it to look like a Steam engine.

It was at that moment a new notification appeared.

Current UP: 500
Upgrade Stove to Steam Engine? Cost: 400 UP
[Yes][No]
QuoteAssuming you still proceed with Reshape.

Roll Knowledge (physical sciences) or Craft (mechanical), this will determine how well you remember the designs from memory.

You proceeded to use your Reshape ability however, though, the Upgrade notification continued to stay in your view. Like last time you felt a bit tired, as if something was being drawn from you. But indeed, before you very eyes, the oven started to reform itself. After a full minute had passed. There was immediately a problem. All the moving parts seemed to have melded together completely. It very much looked like what you had imagined, but it was unusable with it's current state.

However, the notification had changed.

Current UP: 500
Complete Steam Engine? Cost: 300 UP
[Yes][No]
The price had went down.

Turning around from looking through the pantry section, she turns and sighs, " I tried to alter the stove into a steam engine, it seems I failed.  However, I want to try something after I get food.  Seeing the food in the basket she walks over and grabs what looks like a carrot and bites into it, chewing away, hoping it doesn't kill her.  She then walks over to the stove and extends a hand towards it and mutters" [upgrade]"

Kenver let you take the carrot. He had a slight gloomy look on his face as he watched you eat one of the vegetables. "But dinner..." He too sighed. "Well, brother is still preparing your bath, I suppose I can try cooking this the old fashion way and use a campfire." Kenver suggested, trying to think optimistically. You did notice him look towards the stove rather sadly however.

The moment you spoke the keyword 《Upgrade》 and focused on the stove, a variety of options came up. The last notification box was there as well, though, there was a longer list below of it of a variety of other options.

Current UP: 500
Complete Steam Engine: 200 UP
Increase Output x2: 400 UP
Increase Durability x2: 400 UP

"Complete steam engine and upgrade durability," this decision was made without a thought to the potential for increased output.  Simply deciding it needed to be more durable for tests, was the best option she could consider.  Once she makes the choice and finalizes it and it finishes it's work, she turns and looks at Kenver, "I think I can actually help you with the campfire, but this, is a steam engine.  I mean, at least a version of it, if I can get a set up working, I can actually use it to power a fan or grindstone or something else."

She comes to a stop as she is about to turn and look for something to draw on and with.  She looks at Kenver again, "What does the title Kissed by the Divine mean?  And also, The chosen of a god?"

When you spoke completing the steam engine and upgrading durability, you found that the moment you willed to choose the particular choice, it triggered. First the line 'Complete Steam Engine: 200 UP' disappeared. Then the total amount 'UP' seemed to have decreased as well.

Current UP: 300
Increase Output x2: 400 UP
Increase Durability x2: 400 UP
Next a new notification appeared.

Not enough upgrade points.
After that new options appeared in the list as well.

Current UP: 300
Increase Output x2: 400 UP
Increase Durability x2: 400 UP
Temporary Increase Output x2: 10 MP
Temporary Increase Durability x2: 10 MP
This time around, unlike Reshape, the stove-turned-unusable-steam-engine glowed brightly for a brief moment, and upon closer inspection, you realized that the working mechanics of the steam engine was fully usable. The parts were no longer fused together, and it looked completely done.

Kenver looked at the engine with awe. "Maban and I were planning to go over your blessings tomorrow morning... But it looks like you already figured this one out." Kenver stated. "I don't really get what it's supposed to do though..." He shook his head.

"Anyways... If you mean titles, that's something the guilds usually manage. Well, at least, it would have your title on the guild cards. According to the guild, the title that appears on the guild doesn't really have any tangible effect, and no one really knows who decides what those titles are... They just appear on the guild cards. But usually... The titles relate to something that person has done in the past..." Kenver nodded to himself. "You being the hero would make sense if you are chosen by the goddess. As for that first title... Well, I can't even begin to guess how you would have gotten that... If you weren't a hero, what it implies would be blasphemous."

"Well, I need to start working on dinner... I know you talked with a couple in the village while I was telling the knight what was proper. Are we expecting any other guests? There are some food I prepared earlier, but Kayden wouldn't give, and that knight ended up taking up the time I would have used for cooking. If we're not expecting anyone else that means I'll need to prepare enough for my brother and I, you, Kayden and his squire- At, that is.... he's your squire now. And perhaps two more, incase Kayden brings some of the knights for the weapons and armor you requested."

Diane smiles at Kenver as he explains their situation with food.  "I can definitely use some training to be sure, however, what I really need after my short nap in the garveyard, is some.food and i don't doubt you'll be amazing at that, a bath and some sleep.  And I suppose a knight teaching me to defend myself couldn't hurt."

Looking for a chair she finds a stool and sits down on it, looking at Kenver and she calculates the potential outcomes of something in her head before making a decision, " Now that I'm here and once you get me taken care of, will you be free to find a cute girl and settle down with?  I mean the girls in the village must find you and your brother quite a catch, what with you being mayors and capable of doing magic. "

She brings the vegetable to her mouth and bites off another section , deciding it wasn't too harmful, as she studies Kenver and his reaction.

"First is to cook the dinner." Kenver grinned. "The lack of a stove dampers things though... But... well... I suppose I'll get our smith to make us a new one." As you looked for a chair to sit on, Kenver began to regather items in the kitchen cabinets, such as spices and other items.

"A girl..?" He echoed outloud, but he laughed and then quickly glanced at you. "As a priest of the hero and the goddess, it'll be my duty to train, and then accompany you on your journey, whatever that may be, here in our world. Besides you're plenty cute as it is, Diane."

Reaching over she pats him on the shoulder gently, "I'm not sure I count as cute, but I am a girl.  Although, I'm fairly certain that I would be a poor fit for most anyone.  I'm not very socially mature." She shrugs and looks at the steam engine and begins to debating what to attach it to to produce actual work from it.  He looks at Kenver and smiles, "I think I'll set up this steam engine to power a fan, allowing us to cool the house, or at least one room of it.  Although, it will take some experimentation to get it working properly." Going silent, she looks around, "I could even set it up to mildly automate pumping water from a well, if you have a smaller one for the house."

Kenver smiled gently. "Well, believe me, you're definitely cute." He soon finished packing up his basket, and he had even brought along a second one containing more cooking materials. "There's a well near our chapel that might be able to play around with if you'd like. Though, both my brother and I rarely use it as we tend to summon our own water whenever we need it." Kenver said as he began to head out the door. With one more long glance towards you, he then turned towards the door, waving his hand.

"I do believe you are trying to flatter me now Kenver.  A girl might get the wrong idea," the statement is made plainly and without an invitation for more to continue.  When he states that the church has a well that isn't being used often she smiles.  When Kenver heads out the door, she looks at steam engine and sighs softly.  "I smell and I need a bath." Standing up and stretching, she heads out of the kitchen and starts to listen and look for where she might find a hot bath and Maban, he was the other half of her priestly duo and well, it might be time to feel him out.

You quickly heard some running water, it was located outside however, and when you approached the area, it was then that you realized Maban was setting up the bath. A large section of the backyard of the hero's home consisted a large outdoor bath, with high wooden walls that surrounded it. The bath itself looked well-decorated with large stones with indents in them, with light coming out of it. The light seemed to come sort crystal found in each of the alcoves. The sun had started its descent into evening, and already it was starting to get darker, so that each of the light coming from the crystals were more noticable.

Maban was making his rounds between the pools, and you heard him chanting softly. Unlike his brother, Maban had a softer and seemingly gentle voice, though, both brothers both looked similar, along with sounded the same, if they chose to. Maban was saying words, almost like some sort of lame incantation.

"O Water. Blessed be those who drink from the source. Cooling Spring." The moment he finished, from his hands came forth a gush of water, flowing down into the pools. He already had filled up a couple of the areas, and when this one done, he would have finished filling all the water. Maban noticed you as water poured forth from his hands. "Hero Diane!" Maban said as he bowed towards you awkwardly, as one of his hands was still pointed towards the pool he was filling up. "There's a couple more preparations I need to do... Perhaps if you give me another minute? I'll almost done."

Diane shakes her head with a smile, "I'm not in a huge hurry, so I can wait until you get done."  She looks around the area and inspects the stones and their inset crystals.  Inspecting every feature she can to try to give her ideas about anything she can to magic things easier.  She then turns and looks at Maban, her eyes taking him in in detail.  As she studies the young man, there is something about him that strikes her fancy, but not enough to urge her to make any drastic moves.  Instead she walks over to him and watches him use the spell to finish filling the pools.

QuoteRoll Perception if you want anything more than a cursory glance.

The crystals were glowing and inserted into each of the alcoves. There wasn't any evident wires or anything else that connected the stones to any source of power, though, it was always possible that something ran through them underground, or internally. The stones themselves were neatly organized. Some were stacked upon each other, while others were strategically placed around the large open-air bath area. It reminded you of an open-air hot springs onsen from Japan or at times features in anime.

QuoteRoll Sense Motive if you want to get more information about Maban as he works more than a cursory glance.

Maban had nodded, then finished filling up the last of the pools he was working on. Next he began to say a series of words again. "O Fire. Heat from the origins, may it heat, boil, and burn all. Heat." With that, from his hands came forth a wave of heat, he then submerged his hands under the water, and you watched as the water around that area started to boil almost immediately. He moved then as well as he kept his hands in the water, spreading the heat through more of the pool.

Perception (glowing crystals): 20
Inspecting one of the rocks, you realized that each of the crystals wasn't really attached to any of the alcoves. With some effort they could be removed. The crystals had a base that made them easily fit and slip into each of their stone alcoves. Taking one of them out, it still continued to glow. There were no wires or anything from this as well. And due to its almost translucent nature, you could see through most of it, and realized there were no filaments inside either. There were some questions that came out, whether or not the crystal was actually a crystal, or simply had the casing of one, with perhaps some sort of luminous gas inside. However, with what you had seen so far, the next answer was possibly more accurate; it was some sort of magic. Or... at least a phenomenon of magic.

Sense Motive (Maban): 5
You couldn't get a real good feel about Maban. At the very least he took his role seemingly seriously, as setting up a bathhouse this big seemed almost frivolous.

Perception (Maban's casting of magic): 18
Watching Maban cast his magic. You noticed some sort of glow coming from within his body, around his chest area, move its way to his hands. From there, there were red-glowing orbs that appeared moments before the actual heat wave started to appear. It was also at that moment that those red orbs disappeared the moment the spell was cast.
QuoteCan you clarify what the Sense Motive attempt was for? If Maban is lying?

"Technology... Back in my own world, we never really needed technology. But... I heard in this one... like what Kayden mentioned earlier. There was once a magic kingdom that made heavy use of magic. The Idorian Magic Kingdom they were called. And they created things they called 'magitools'. Though, I've never seen one personally myself yet. But supposedly the nobles of the Felencorp have the ones that made it out of that country before it was overrun."

"I can't really think of magic as something blasphemous though... For us, the magic we use is granted to us by the goddesses. The goddess of light, air, water, earth, fire, and darkness. Each match with a corresponding element. Light, air, water, earth, fire, and finally darkness. When we cast magic... We make use of something called 'mana' that resides within us, we then form an idea of how we want the spell to be... And words suddenly come to mind. This sort of miracle isn't just limited to the people of my world, the people of this world too experience the same thing. Words appear in your head... and when you recite them, what we call as 'magic' happens. But what the priests of my world call as miracles of the divine goddesses, granted to us mortals by their grace."

"With you being the hero... You should be able to make use of it too." Maban explained as he continued heating up the pools. "We were supposed to save it for tomorrow, but what do you think? Care for a simple lesson?"

Listening intently to the basically theory lesson on magic, she reconciles her mind to the fact that there are two more elements than she recently knew about. As she lets that sink in the offer is made to give her a simple lesson on magic and she shakes her head with a smile, "No, thank you.  I've had to wrap my mind around quite a bit already today and I think at best I'll manage to bathe, eat and perhaps get fitted for armor or be shown a weapon or two before I finally need a significant amount of sleep.  My small nap when I spoked to Gaia isn't going to hold me for much longer than that I fear."

QuoteYou can feel free to keep rolling Sense Motives if you like, I'll be assuming they're for lie-detection attempts per post of his dialogue.
Sense Motive (Maban on being deceptive on technology and magic): 10
You could not tell whether or not Maban was being deceptive.

"That's understandable." Maban said as he continued his work. "Though, if you'd be wanting to rest, it might be best to avoid Kayden after supper as well." The priest smiled wryly to himself. "That knight is fairly driven... That they always clash with Kenver due to it. I don't agree with everything Kayden says too. But it is what it is... You see... The Felencorp, they want you in the capital, where they can keep an eye on you, and restrict what you can do. You're a 'precious resource' to them. They probably wouldn't say it in front of you of course, but that's how all those in the Felencorp are like. It's why they make such shrewd merchants. We knew that if they had us summon you, they'll do everything they can to figure out how to make use of you... Probably for combat and war, which is why Kayden is so driven in having you learn how to fight." Maban explained as he moved on to the next pool.

"For my brother and I though. It's different... Their war isn't our war, even though we are part of this world now. I'm still hoping that one day this village can find itself back in our own world. And you... You're the hero that for generations upon generations the Angwin family have prepared for. You're more than just a resource to us. You see Diane... You're the culmination of hundreds of years of preparation. Our village doesn't have much compared to the resources of the alliance, but... well, if you can excuse me for saying it, you're Chynance village's hero. Not the Felencorp's."

Listening intently to Maban she nods along, her eyes seemingly getting heavier and heavier.  She smiles thirdly and looks Maban in the eyes, "Do you know what I want most?" She doesn't even wait for him to ask she just rambles on, "I want to know what I have to do to go end this war.  I want to go head to head with the demon general or lord.  Let me develop some kind of weapon to just..destroy them. She yawns out the word [reshape] and imagines the word reshape becoming a knife that can cut something physical.

Maban smiled gently. "If only... If we could do that and stop their war... Maybe this world can divert its resources into sending everyone back to where they belong." He shook his head. "To be honest, their way doesn't interest my brother and I as much. We only know what we were able to pick up, but we never really sat and talked with Kayden about it... I know there's some demon lord controlling much of the wars on the demon's side, but apart from that, we've just been focused on our village here. We have a large amount of reparations to pay back to the Felencorp actually. But... with your summoning, it won't be too long until we're done."

She nods, debating just how much she wants to share with Maban about what she just experienced.  Smiling at the thought of the village being almost done with the reparations, she would almost look dopey.  She decides to step out on the ledge and try, "Can I ask you about something and it stay between us?  I need advice and well, I've never been a wizard before so."

She steps back from Maban and verbally speaks the word [Reshape] again, this time towards the water, her mind forming it in a visible cone of energy that radiates outward, like expanding circles.  After this is done, she looks at Maban, "I've tried twice now to turn a spoken word into an object, first a knife and just now a cone of physical noise. Has anyone that you know of ever used sound as a magic?"

"I guess I will have to work that out maybe.  Elemental magic, that could be fun.  Is there a guild here I could go to and check on some of my I guess upgrade points I gained when I came to this world?" Shrugging she looks at the bath and begins to inspect her clothing to see if she still has on earlier outfit or something new to go with the lack of work hardened hands and calluses.

Maban furrowed his eyebrows. "What do you mean by upgrade points? I understand the meaning of the words... But... what do you mean? As for a guild... if you mean the Guild. Our village never had one. However... There's been talk of the Guild of this world setting up a guild branch here in this village. Especially with your summoning, Chynance has become 'more on the map' so to speak by the rest of the alliance. However, it's usually just been the major cities to be able to be granted those guild crystal orbs that find out your own stats. Things like levels and other attributes. Usually only adventurers bother with it, as they keep with them a meticulous recording of the deeds they've done in order to 'rank up' in the Guild. The closest Guild branch that might have one of those crystal orbs is the same trade capital that Kayden wants you to visit..." He stood by thoughtfully for a moment, pausing his work in heating the pool. "I could perhaps try making use of my connections with other priests and priestesses faithful to the goddess who might be able to convince our future guild branch here in Chynance to have an orb. However, that battle might be hard to fight, as we'd need a viable reason for adventurers to roam around this village."

The water was warm, on the hotter side than cool, but still bearable, and in a few more minutes Maban would have finished preparing the bath altogether. With the fall season breeze, the warmthness of the pool was quite pleasant.

"Well, hero Diane..." Maban said as he bowed one more time formally towards you. "The towels will be here on this bench. And we have a change of clothes for you as well if you choose to wear them, I'll bring a couple of sets out in that room over there."  Maban said pointing to a small changing room. That said... Your own clothes are quite... unique. And I doubt Kayden would mind either."[/glow] With that Maban turned to leave.

Soon enough you were left alone with nothing but the cool breeze, the warm water, and the pleasant lights and atmosphere of the bath itself. There were trees that surrounded the estate, blocking the view of much of the village and places beyond, so it made it seem as if you were truly more isolated. This was an entire bathhouse reserved just for you. Places like these even back in your own world were harder to find, much less having it for yourself as well.

Diane smiles and nods to Maban, "Thank you Maban, you have been wonderful.  If you will bring me something to wear that's roughly my size, I'll wear it until I can wash my own."  She waits until he's out of range and grabs the towel, heading over to the changing room.  She undresses, and replaces her clothing with a towel wrapped around her body.  Walking out in just the towel, she feels a bit giddy, but manages to not blush.  Walking over to the pool she was at before, she steps into the water, shedding the towel before it gets wet and is soon shoulder deep in the water.  A soft sigh escapes her lips as she just stands in deeper end of the pool's water.

The evening went by peacefully. The next 30 minutes was spent in quiet relaxation with nothing but nature all around you. The cool breeze continued to blow through the area, gently caressing your face and blowing through your hair. While the sound of village life had been getting quieter and quieter, as most people were simply finishing up their own meals, or spending it with their friends and family in the village. The feel of the warm, not quite scalding water was pleasant and as you submerged yourself, the warm and comforting sensation enveloped your body. Heated not by heating coils powered by electricity, but seemingly by magic. Created and given form from wherever it had come from.

It was a different experience to be sure. Your life as a high school student and part-time mechanic has indeed changed. Gone was the daily work of bringing in homework after school or painstakingly spending time on studying the material for that upcoming test. Waking for school as early as 7 AM to prepare for your trip to classes that day; the lectures, classwork, and learning in that academic environment. Gone too was the part time work you did as a mechanic. What kind of mechanics did they even have in this new world in the first place? Your classmates, teachers, and neighbors were far far away. Who even knew if you could ever see them again: your family, your parents, grampy.

You heard some movement coming from the entrance to the large building. And shortly after that, though you didn't see him due to the privacy walls in place, you heard him. "Food's almost done... Also we have Gerens at our door, saying he had been invited to supper?" Maban asked to confirm. "We wouldn't mind of course, but wanted to double check with you, hero Diane. Also I'll leave the clothing rack here. Just choose what you'd like. Take your time, Kenver still needs to do the final touches."

After dozing for what seemed like an hour to her despite having been half that time, Diane comes back to reality when Maban speaks up.  She grins, "I did invite Geren, I am sorry I didnt consult you guys first. I will start getting out and drying off in a moment and join you.  Thank you again Maban, this is just what I needed after today.  Maybe once I get the hang of things in this world I can build you something, and Kenver too for your hospitality.  I cannot imagine it will be a full repayment, but it is something I know I can do.  Maybe..yes that would be delightful!" As she gets out and starts to dry off, heading to the rack, gets what should be loose fitting clothing and heads to the changing room.  As she changes she makes sure to grab her bra, much as she might want it washed, until she had another one or something close to it, she wanted it at hand.  Once outfitted in the mostly brown and white clothing, she divided at least she looked good in a peasant blouse or as close as this one was.

"Alright, we'll let him in then. And fear not! Both my brother and I are here to serve you, not the other way around." Maban called out. You didn't actually see him as he kept himself before the privacy screen. He eventually leaves, as you began to get yourself dried and dressed.

Once you were finished dressing, you caught the scent of food. There was also some dialogue coming from the mansion, but it was too far for you to make it out.

When she was fully dressed, not all that comfortable with a skirt, but thinking the skirt a better choice than the pants, which she did not think would fit her properly as she is a bit thicker through the butt and legs than most women she had seen wearing pants in this world.  She walks out, here dark hair almost black with it still being damp.  She reaches back and wrings it out as much as she can, but gives up after a few minutes.

When she takes a deep breath, she smells the food and starts to follow the scent towards what she suspected would be the kitchen.  When she arrives, she smiles and begins to look around for a clock, albeit a larger one than she normally sees to be sure, an idea popping into her head about making clockwork sculptures for the boys as a way to say thank you for helping her.  Or maybe making a large clockwork sculpture for the entire village.  She begins to think and starts to look for something to draw on and with again.

Inside the home, there were no clocks, in fact, you hadn't seen one at all since coming here. There were many rooms to the large building however, it even had multiple floors. So far, you had only been taken around the first floor, and now the back. The food did waft in through the kitchen, but it seems most of it was brought to the dining room as well. With the stove-top being out of commission, it looked like Kenver mainly used the kitchen to prepare the food and finalize the finishing touches. It looked like the rest of them were in the dining room, as you could hear their voices.

QuoteHaven't created an estate map yet, but it's on my to-do list. You can choose to spend time looking for paper and writing material however, that'll take around 15 minutes to walk through the mansion and briefly look around if you'd like.

Finding the kitchen empty of people, she shrugs and then continues to follow the smells into the dining room and smiles, her stomach growling loudly at this point, still having not spotted a clock at this point. "That smells great! I'm starving and this looks like it will hit the spot." Taking a place at one side of the table where one is available, she grins, "So what do we have here?"  Turning and looking at Geren she smiles, "I'm glad you could come."

Location: New World - Chynance Village - Hero's Home - Dining Room
Date: Day 1 - 8:00 PM

The dining room was one of the wings to the mansion, it was about 25 ft. wide, and 60 ft. across. There were 5 long tables, each table being able to seat 12 people. However, with only the two mayors, Kayden, Hunt, Gerens, and you, only the nearest table was used. It being one of the more informal gatherings. Arrayed out on one of the tables was a variety of food. Many of the dishes looked western, but you couldn't help but notice a few dishes that was perhaps of other nationalities. There was more than enough food for everyone seated at the table. None of the food presented looked particularly difficult to make. Stews, vegetables, and meats. Though, there were dishes that looked like tofu, and even some breaded food. This at least told you that they ha a concept of frying.

Kenver was beaming proudly when you finally appeared in your simple brown and white dress. "My hero, and lady, Diane." Kenver began. "I hope the bath prepared by my dear brother was to your fancy. And I hope the food I've prepared is to your liking as well." Kenver bowed. It was a typical western bow, complete with a flourish of his hand in presentation of the food on the table. "Many of these dishes are from my own world, the world Chynance came from. There are other dishes too for Kayden's people. Lastly, there are some recipes from other countries as well... We've been preparing for this meal for the last few weeks, and I can assure you these are the finest ingredients I was able to find."

Gerens nodded appreciatively at the food, and at you as well for welcoming him while Maban began to pour a red-colored liquid into wine glasses.

"Yes, and I've brought a map too that we can take a look at later if you'd like. I'll need this one back though, since I plan to use it for my trip. But thank you hero. It's a great honor for me to sit down and dine with the hero, the two mayors, and the representatives from the alliance."

Eventually Maban made his way to you, and proceeded to hand you one of the wine glasses as well.

Diane smiles and blushes with the amount of attention focused on her as Kenver speaks.  Once she has her words back, she clears her throat and speaks up, "The bath was wonderful, exactly what I needed considering.  And the food looks delicious!  It certainly has my stomach growling."

Taking in Gerens, she grins, "I'm decent enough about making notes about things, so I'll make mental notes about the map, what I may not remember and then we'll send it home with you tonight.  I think that should send you off on time."  She takes the glass of wine and sips it, letting the liquid pool on her tongue for a few moments.  She then swallows it and puts the glass down, taking note of the fact that the liquid is alcohol and as her tolerance for such is low, she best take it easy with it.  She then turns to Hunt, "I see you've made it through unscathed little brother.  That's good, I have a feeling we'll see plenty of trouble in the mean time." Winking at the boy, she looks around the table, "I suppose as far as most people starting off in this world, at least I started with good friends."

"I do hope the food is to your liking, Hero Diane. If you think there's anything about it that needs to change, or if you have something specific you want to eat, I promise I'll do my best to give it to you." Kenver said, locking his eyes on you. "After all, that's what I'm here for. For you."

Hunt smiled widely at you."We brought back a whole lot of wagons!" The squire said joyfully. His eyes moved towards the food. "What would make all this better is some cake." Hunt commented, more to himself than anything, but Kayden glanced hard at him.

"You are a guest here Hunt." The knight said quietly. "Keep in mind the lessons you were taught... Don't forget that you were chosen to represent the Felencorp to the hero."

It was then that both Maban and Kenver lead the group for blessing of the food. You specifically noted that they gave their thanks to the goddesses. Though, the Goddess of Light was mentioned specifically. It was a prayer that seemed long, Gerens, Kayden, and Hunt stood by silently and respectfully, but soon enough Maban and Kenver had finished.

"Now come eat!" Kenver said, a hint of pride in his voice.

QuoteIf you want to RP dinner, we could do it, but I'm up for paraphrasing it as well. You can state any specific questions/topics of discussion though.

Diane sits down and smiles, "How about we all start with eating this delicious meal, enjoy each other's company and go from there?  I think if we share a meal together we could very well function better together.  Can we all agree to at least try this?" She looks around, her mind filtering through all of the options available in HRT mind to bring these people together.

"Everyone please sit down and let's just have dinner, Diane sounds exasperated and grabs a knife off of the table and yells, "[Reshape]!", picturing the knife elongating into larger, albeit thinner, dagger.  "If I wanted to hear this dribble during dinner I would have just elected to die and relive memories of my death instead of coming here when Gaia gave me the option to come here instead.  I'm sick and tired of the disagreements you guys are having!  Sit down, have dinner and we can continue with such tomorrow!  Am I understood?!" Stabbing the  knife into the table, regardless of it's length or thickness, she let's her anger show fully thinking of the fires she had seen consume firewood in the fall and winter, except this time surrounding her like an aura, her mouth moving as she thinks of such, " O Fire. Heat from the origins, may it heat, boil, and burn all.  Cloak of fire!"

When you used your reshape ability, like before, it took a full minute for it to slowly become as you imagined. Like last time too, you felt a slight pull, feeling slightly tired, but nothing too drastic. When you stabbed the knife into the table, it had already begun to be sharp enough to do so, and it easily went in. The knife continued to elongate and sharpen even though it was wedged into the table. The sight of the handle of the knife simply growing by itself along with your outburst made the rest of the people around the table quiet.

The moment you attempted to will fire to come into being surrounding you like an aura, the words came to your mind, you recited them naturally, and at that moment, a burst of fire surrounded you. Like with using your first ability of being able to reshape things, you felt yourself get just a bit more tired. As the fires whirled around you, the heat didn't bother you at all. However, for the rest of the things near you, they started to heat up. You knew if you didn't step back from the table, you would likely catch something on fire.

At that moment too, two notifications appeared.

If the spell is too complex, or you haven't met level or tier requirements, or if the spell would belong to a different magicka system, the spell won't trigger, but it would be good to experiment as well.

Added the spell Cloak of Fire to your spell list. For now, I've set it as a Tier 1 spell. We can change spell-details at a later on if we need to.

With a sigh she steps away from the table and speaks again, "Water. Cool, eternal and flowing, may you always bring life to the world.  Flame extinguish." She sighs again and closes her eyes, focusing on the image of the flame cloak fading out of existence.  Once she has tried, she opens her eyes and fixes them on the group of people at the table.  "Maban, Hunt, Geren, please excuse us for a moment please."  Pulling the dagger from the table she beckons Kayden and Kenver to follow her out of the room.  Then she heads out of the room towards the kitchen, her mind firmly on setting the stage for the conversation by standing in front of the steam engine. She waits until the two appear. "I honestly am coming to my wit's end with all of this bickering.  Today, I died, came to another world, met a goddess, turned a stove into a steam engine, met good people of all sorts, turned a knife into a dagger and cast a spell or two.  Do you know how much I have considered just slipping away to leave all of you.  I just wanted a nice dinner with my new friends.   And I am letting you know,  if I have to burn down the world to get that peace and quiet.  Because right now Hunt, Gerens and Maban deserve better than what we've given them tonight."  She takes a deep breath and glares at both of them, and mutters outloud, "Oh light and dark, the two elements that gird the world in life and death bring us peace and strife.  Dramatic aura." She imagines herself surrounded by light and dark in such a way that she is both lit up and cast in darkness simultaneously to give herself a more intimidating appearance

You excused yourself from the group, while Kenver and Kayden followed.

When you attempted to cast the light and dark spell, Dramatic Aura, you got a notification.

Attribute not yet unlocked.
The words appeared in your mind, but you weren't able to use the spell at all. You noticed Kenver's eyes widened when you had began attempting to cast it, then only looked on curiously when nothing happened.

Kenver was the first to react, going down on his knees immediately. "Forgive my callousness, Hero Diane." Kener said apologetically.

Kayden on the other hand didn't kneel. "A more docile mayor Kenver is indeed a pleasant thing to see. If only the hero was summoned sooner for this to be happen earlier." Kayden said. You noticed Kenver's eyes flare, but he chose not to say anything.

Diane laughs and holds her hand out picturing an aura of of flame surrounding her dagger, Fire, that which cleanses and burns, that which makes way for renewal.  Flame sword!" Growling regardless of the result, "A more humble Kayden wouldn't hurt at this point either.  As at this point there will be more training or anything else until you decide to act like adults.  At this point if I am the adult in our situation then we start doing things my way and things will not go so well for anyone else except myself.  Am I understood?!"

While it had finished growing longer from your previous attempt at reshaping it, with your spell it had become even longer. The flames surrounded your dagger, and it extended to the length of a sword as well. The flames didn't seem hot to you, and the dagger's handle was pretty cool too.

Kayden was completely silent, feeling tense. Kenver on the other hand just raised an eyebrow. "I'm unsure how it's like in your world hero Diane, but adults here do not draw their weapons for petty squabbles." The knight said, staring hard, but making no more otherwise.

Grinning, she holds the dagger to the side, letting it continue to grow as she held it.  "In my world if adults are fighting like you guys are it usually doesn't taking someone literally sprouting cloaks of fire around them to get them to shut up and cool it.  In my world if you can't get along, you just go to your own space and let it cool down until you can work out a resolve.  And since you don't seem to be trying to resolve things, apparently it takes an adult to send you to your corners."

Kayden narrowed their eyes. "Very well. Send Kenver to his corner. He has been the one confronting me at every turn. His own ideals and blindness has him refuse to heed the words of others. In our world, fights are generally resolved with duels." The knight nodded. "But your show of force definitely did get the mayor to 'shut up and cool it' as you put it." The knight continued to stare hard, keeping their face impassive. "As we can plainly see, it seems it would have taken a hero to be summoned to put him in his place."

Kenver continued to kneel. His eyes and head were downcast, so you couldn't get a read of his reaction. Though, his body looked tense at least.

Snorting, she shakes her head and walks out, "Come along Kenver, apparently in all worlds there are people who are capable of just ignoring something aimed at them as well.  Regardless we need to discuss this later.  I swear by the God of my world that between the three of us we aren't worth much to this group as all we can do is disagree and apparently I lose my temper."  Walking past Kayden, she smiles coldly, "KNow what you really need?  To stop thinking you're in charge and hope against hope I don't understand why heroes go "mad".

She stops right outside the dining room and sighs, "If I had known that I'd be playing mother to you lot, maybe I would have stayed dead.  Kept seeing visions of that boy I saw right before I died." Snorting she enters the dining room, putting on her best smile, "All done for now.  So how about we all enjoy this wonderful dinner that our kind hosts have prepared for us and then we can get some sleep shall we?" Her voice is sweet and wonderful, exactly what you might expect, but the dagger is still growing and surrounded by fire, her body language cold and business-like.

"In charge?" Kayden echoed coldly. "To what capacity? I am simply here to train the hero in the ways of war that will soon plague all our lands, where the mayors of Chynance have done nothing but get in the way of that. This will be dropped only if the Chynance mayors drop their constant attacks on my country. Nay, the country that they themselves are a part of! The last month has worn my patience so very thin."

Kenver began to follow you back in. As for Kayden, he proceeded back in as well.

When you had ventured back inside, you realized that both Maban and Hunt were right at the entrance. You had failed to notice them earlier. The looks on their faces told you that they had heard most, if not the entire exchange. Maban's eyes had a look of anger as he shot Kayden a glare. As for Hunt, he looked completely lost as his eyes darted back from you to Kayden over and over. Gerens was still seated further back on the tables however, though, from the frown on his face, he probably guessed there was yet another conflict that had just brewed, even if he didn't know all the details. At the very least, all three of them noticed the flaming dagger. Your words and tone of voice was gentle and sweet, though it contrasted sharply by your posture, your gaze, and the very fact you held the flaming weapon.
Title: Re: [Diane] Chapter 2: The Hero's Home
Post by: Anima mea on June 26, 2019, 10:42:03 AM
Throwing her hands up, taking great care with the flaming weapon, she shakes her head, "Will you three stop all of this if we just got stop the enemy threat and I either die or we win?  If that's the case, we leave and dawn to go to the front.  I learn what you can teach me on the way and what I don't learn before we get there, well, I'll just have to make do without it.  I'm good at winging it with my analytical mind."

Sighing, she shakes her head and walks over to the chair she was in before, muttering another spell, "Water. Cool, eternal and flowing, may you always bring life to the world.  Flame extinguish." Putting the dagger down where she can easily pick it up, she sits down and begins to fill her plate with various foods.  Once she has enough to fill the plate she begins to eat.  She devours the food with gusto, her appetite that of a hungry teenager who has put in a hard day of work.  Once she finishes one plate she speaks up, "Also, the steam engine in the kitchen could be filled with water, and set up to use firewood or coal and well, if you get it setup correctly it can automate the blacksmithing process, either a grindstone or the bellows being consistently the same temperature, as long as someone is feeding it firewood or coal.  Or you could adapt it, make it bigger and make a train or automatic wagon."

Kenver was about to say something, though Maban stared at him too, and he chose not to say anything. When you began to stuff food on your plate, and eat with gusto, the rest eventually followed. It was a good thing Gerens had been invited, as he seemed to get the general tense atmosphere, and had attempted to make light conversation with both Kayden and Kenver. Along with generally telling stories of his own world. Little by little, eventually the others started to warm up, even if Kayden and Kenver never really responded to each other through most of the dinner. Hunt was the most enthusiastic about the food. Right after you, it was the squire that ate with as much gusto. On the other hand, Kayden ate slow and methodically, and had even made time to properly cut up chunks of potatoes into easier bite-size portions. Gerens, doing most of the talking, was animated in his stories, and simply sipped or ate some food in between his retellings. It would occasionally switch to Maban, who would praise his brother's fine cooking, and simply encourage everyone else to keep eating, including Kayden. Kenver himself was the quietest, though by the end of it, he eventually cracked a few jokes, and even told of how he went about preparing each of the foods out in the backyard, which earned him a smile and grin from Gerens and Maban.

When you brought up the steam engine, it was Gerens who first spoke.

"Now... Kenver mentioned that contraption you had changed his stove into... But it sounds absolutely amazing." The man said. "I understand it as some sort of machine... An automatic wagon? Do you mind.... if I take a look at it?" Gerens asked. "With yours and the mayor's permission too of course." Gerens corrected. "I wonder if this is something that can help with sales in some way..."

Pushing back from the table and standing up she looks at Kenver, "Dinner was wonderful thank you." Taking up her recently reshaped dagger, she looks at Gerens and smiles, "I have an early morning and a lot of marching to do.  When I have time at night I will write a paper on the subject so I can send it back to you and you can use it."  Turning away from the table, steel in her voice and body language, "Good night all, morning comes early and well, if there are roosters they will wake me and I will be off, with or without you. Each of the people at the table nodded their heads. Gerens didn't repeat his request either, seeing that the situation was still tense. As you were on your way out, when Maban hurried off after you.

"I'll show you to your room, hero Diane." He said when he caught up, but he paused a moment later. "Unless you'd like the directions yourself?"

The rest of the group was still at the dining room. Around 40 ft. away. Kenver began to pick up everyone's dishes. He must have made some sort of comment since Kayden had immediately stood up. But Gerens could be heard. "Now, now... this sort of talk could be saved for later."

Simply nodding to Maban, she follows him, "Lead the way, I was going to just pick the first empty room with a bed.  I don't plan to stay here past tonight, so it doesn't matter where I sleep, as long as the rooster crows at dawn and we head out."  Hearing Gerens, she sighs softly, "I've never made the right decision with these situations, but I will simply have to stay the course, because I won't be able to save you three from each other until the threat is over."

"It is your choice of course..." Maban started as he lead the way up the stairs. "But like my brother, I don't see it as any good thing for you to be shipped out to the front lines, even if you were given intense training by the alliance. From what I heard, the Felencorp treat everything they can simply as tools. Cogs to their great machine that makes up the strongest military in this world." Maban sighed. "We haven't even begun training either, not in your blessings, or of magic. For example... Saying 'Status' should bring up information about yourself, at least it is so for other heroes. As for magic... I'm impressed that you managed to figure out so much about it already without any formal training. I admit, the atmosphere was.... well, let's just say uncomfortable earlier, but usually it would take a mage weeks or even months to be able to cast their first spell. There are others too who never get to that point."

A soft growl escapes her lips as he speaks the last bit, "And I would love to have the time, but apparently to bring peace to the people I am the hero of, I am going to need to go end this threat.  And as I can apparently upgrade and reshape items, plus I seem to be decently adept at working out spells, I think it's safe to say that I can learn as I go and try new things on the road to the front.  Let's put it this way, you two are less in danger of failing me than Kayden at this point.  I somehow doubt Kayden will successfully get me trained up to spec before we get there.  As I intend to cover as much ground as possible each day.  Meaning, that rooster better crow at dawn or he will find himself breakfast on the road.  I bet a fire spell will get him up to the correct temperature to make sure he's thoroughly cooked."

She chuckles and then looks down at the skirt and gets a clear image, or as clear as she can of a set of riding skirts and touches them, speaking the word she has learned to appreciate so much, "Reshape."  Letting the result come to fruition without much more thought to it, she looks at Maban, "I'm starting to realize that your world doesn't need nations fighting each other, we need a united nations congress, at least temporarily, to resolve this threat."  She sighs softly, "While we travel I want to write out speechs and make speechs preaching such to the world as we go, that way even if I die you'll have the speechs to push the world in the right direction to save itself.  I may die from this decision, but I want my death to push this world forward towards salvation.  Towards eventual peace, maybe your world can do what mine was never capable of."  The sad tone of her voice fully breaks as she stops and takes a deep breath.  Punching a wall, she turns and looks at Maban, a little more in control, "According to my religion, well, I guess my old religion, we once had a savior who died to give humans, at least the ones that followed my religion, the ability to say a prayer, heartfelt mind you, and be forgiven for all sins before we die and be accepted into some kind of idyllic afterlife.  Although, that's our belief, there are so many different beliefs in the world and that's what makes the world, my world, so violent."  She shakes her head, and smiles tiredly at Maban, "I want to save you guys so that my life has meaning.  I want you guys to have a hero who matters and does right by you."

"So if I say the word status, will you be able to see what I see or will I need to write it down or tell you what I see?" She looks curious for the first time about her abilities as far knowing what she was doing outside of her experiments are concerned.  "Also, do the words, reshape, upgrade, fleeting tinkerer and mass builder mean anything to you?"

Whenever you spoke the word 'Reshape' without any intent, there would be a notification appearing, stating something you had seen earlier that day: 'Requires a valid target.'

However, as you said the word 'Upgrade', without any particular intent to it, a familiar screen appeared. However, there seemed to be more stats about it this time.

Current UP: 300
UP Points Earned Per Day: 15
UP Points Earned From Possessions: 0

[Possessions List]
Clothing: 0
When you had the intent on changing your skirt however, the 'Upgrade' menu came up. It had what you wanted, but also a couple of other options too.

Current UP: 300
Change to Riding Skirt: 30 UP
Change to Leather leggings: 50 UP
Change to Plat Leggings: 150 UP
However, when you proceeded to touch your skirt instead and trigger 'Reshape', and once you did, you knew it would take a full minute for its transformation to complete. At the same time, you saw the numbers under 'Change to Riding Skirt' slowly reduce in cost. The moment your skirt was fully transformed into a Riding Skirt, the cost had reached 0 UP, and the entry for changing it into a Riding Skirt simply vanished.

QuoteAdded Riding Skirt to Items list in your sheet

Mana couldn't help but chuckle when you mentioned Kayden. "I noticed this earlier in your use of pronoun, but Kayden is a woman. But still, I'm glad you are putting her in her place. Though, I still don't see approve of sending the Chynance Hero to the front. There's other heroes in this world as I'm told. But both Kenver and I will follow. We already discussed the potential of you leaving Chynance with the rest of the townsfolk a few weeks prior, and in truth, most of our duties have been in maintaining this home. Without you to use it, that would free us up. The tax collector from the Felencorp alliance had been handling much of the financial obligations our village has anyways, and we trust the rest of the village to handle their affairs."

When you punched the wall, Maban began to reach out for you, and place a hand on your shoulder. Any show of resistance and he'll stop the action and simply stand back.

"Hero Diane, just those words alone tells me you are more than worthy of the title of hero." He bowed his head towards you. "When it comes to beliefs, to us, at least, the Chynance village, you represent the hope of my old world."

When you said the word 'Status'. A new screen appeared. Like all the screens prior, it had a translucent green background. You had also gained a new title.

You have gained a new title 『She Who Knows Status』
You have gained +1 INT
Diane Licia Malone
She Who Knows Status
Level 15

Condition: Uninjured, Refreshed

HP: 34/34
MP: 34/37
STR: 20 +
DEX: 20 +
CON: 22 +
INT: 21+
WIS: 11 +
CHA: 9 +
MAG: 24 +

Blessings: Quick Learner, Mana Sensitivity, Translate Languages, Personal Status, Upgrade, Reshape

You have 3 unspent ability points.
Maban shook his head. "Heroes tend to have abilities that are unique to them alone. However, there are some common ones too, such as status, mana sensitivity, learning quickly, and the ability to speak any language and understand it."

Taking the time to read the screen she nods to Maban as she talks, her mind cataloging information as quickly as she can, but when it comes down to it, she simply absorbs more than understands at first.  She then shifts her attention fully to Maban, "It seems my blessings are called quick learner, mana sensitivity and translate language.  There are three more listed under personal blessings called personal status, upgrade and reshape.  I also have a list of stats, much like one might find in roleplaying games in my world.  Hp, Mp, Str, Dex, Con, Int, Wis, Cha and Mag.  Do you have any information on those? I mean, what i know of roleplaying games from a passing knowledge of those types of games I can guess what they do."

QuoteOODM: You can optionally roll Knowledge (popular culture) if you have it. Otherwise do INT if you want information specifically that might pertain to it.

"Roleplaying games...? Do you mean... a game where you pretend to be someone you're not?" He nodded thoughtfully. "Many of the children even in this world do similar things... Games where they pretend to be Felothian knights storming dungeons, or even fighting against evil dragons."

"Yes... You may even know them already. Many of these stats as you call them, are the same ones recorded by the Guild, with some of that information displayed on adventurer cards. I don't suppose anyone has mentioned what the guild is yet to you? But basically it's simply an organization that handles requests, and employs adventurers to complete them. 'HP' would stand for your general health, and the number should reduce whenever you are injured. 'MP' represents your mana. The next 7 represent specific levels of your own ability. 'STR' would mean how physically strong you are. 'DEX' is usually how agile you are. 'CON' was how healthy you were, which differs from 'HP' earlier, as CON doesn't go down whenever you're injured. 'INT' this one represents how knowledge you are. 'WIS' was a difficult one, but eventually we realized adventurers who had a high 'WIS' were more intuitive and perceptive than others who had a low 'WIS'. CHA is related to one's attractiveness and their personality; their charisma. Lastly, 'MAG' represented their power in magic. It was written that these letters actually meant a similar thing in a different world... which is why I'm guessing that you might already know, too. Though, it's strange why these specific letters represent the things they do in your own language, for example 'CHA', meaning charisma are different words completely, and they don't even start with the same letter." He shrugged. "Your blessing 'Translate Languages' had something to do with that we surmised... and it's also proof of the goddesses, among many, many other things."

Nodding at the explanation Diane simply looks at the last bit, "I have unallocated ability points.  Should I allocate those by saying allocate ability points charisma? Or something?"  She shakes her head half way expecting this to allocate all.of the stat points all at once I to charisma.  "That being said, I should probably get some sleep as we have an early morning.  Also please let Gerens look at the steam engine, I wanted to show him that particular piece regardless, things just got so heated at dinner that I lost my cool.  And tell him I will keep my word on writing papers on it for him."

"Unallocated ability points... Yes, as I recall reading, heroes can choose which of these 'ability points' they can raise. That is actually different than the rest of the people in this world where our individual stats increase simply as we level, and do activities. There should be an icon near the ability that you want to increase, focusing in on that will increase it."

Maban eventually lead the way to the third floor of the estate. He had passed by a room and mentioned that that was where Maban and Kenver would be sleeping in. A room next door to it was apparently where Kayden would be in. Apparently part of the deal with the alliance was to have at least one knight near the summoned hero at all times. He passed though, and soon enough he stopped in front of a door.

"This is your room. Kenver and I are usually up at sunrise."

QuoteOODM: You can roll Knowledge (nature) or Knowledge (earth and life sciences) to attempt to figure out the rough time estimation on when that would be, otherwise just do a regular INT check if you don't have either. Without a clock, if you want to wake up at a specific time of day, you can set it as 'just before sunrise', or 'middle of the night', etc.

Noting all of the information she's being given with nods and little.tricks she's picked up over the years, Diane simply walks quietly along with Maban.  Noting which rooms are used by her handlers, she shrugs. When they get to her room she looks over the room and notes it would be an excellent workspace for her with the way she usually does during a project.  She nods, "Wake me as close to dawn as possible.  I will pack what little I have which won't take long, from there, I want to head out."  She shakes her head and walks into the bedroom and look snout the window onto the balcony and shakes her head, "It is a pity that we aren't staying, that balcony would make a great small workshop.  And the extra room in here would let me design and work on detailed stuff."

She turns and looks at Maban, dagger in hand, "I am not by any means trying to.make your lives hard, however, this situation is probably best resolved by moving it into a direct situation that we can effect instead of the endless arguing by Kenver and Kayden.  I am putting them on the back foot by changing things so drastically for both of them."  She grins, "Also, can we give some of the grounds over to Gerens for future use for trade if he needs it? I know it's not traditional, but I think he will help the village rebound a little faster if he has things in place for him already.  I have a good feeling about him.

"Of course. I am sure Kayden is absolutely thrilled that you are choosing to head out to the city and frontlines as soon as possible. Though... I for one am hesitant to so readily agree. Kenver and I fought to allow you to stay here for at least a month before we had summoned you. We also managed to delay the ritual for as long as possible, in order to ensure everything was just right... We have a wagon and horses prepared already for the journey though. We keep it on our estate, not too far from the hero's home, but not quite in the village either."

"You are the hero. If you choose it, I think even the alliance would eventually bend to any demands you might make. Fear not, I'll catch up to Gerens after this and let him know though. I'll have Kenver write up a letter to the rest of the town to tidy up any more loose ends we might have here. I'll have Kayden's knights and your squire help with the preparations for tomorrow, tonight. That way we can get on our journey once dawn arrives."

She smirks, "Yes, but this honestly, puts all of us, even Kayden I'm sure in a situation in which we are all due some surprises and as such I benefit from it.  Mostly because Kayden, well, she'll have to worry about me dying without the proper training.  Plus, we are not going to the capital for any sorts of scholars or training, I didn't go to school to learn to be a mechanic, I learned by doing it and watching.  I didn't learn to use magic from formal training, I watched you one time and learned.  I think we can safely say that I will be a student of life, don't you?"  She winks at Maban and then turns and looks out of the window, enjoying the view.  She goes quiet for a moment and then looks out the window, "I know you are to serve me, both of you, but what would happen if I released you from such?  What if I choose to make you my friends or even family like I did with Hunt?  Would you choose to go with me or would you stay and run this village the way you always have?  I have no doubt Kenver would come along, he seems like the type that would want to get into trouble with a hero, just because he could, not because he's expected to, but what about you Maban?"  She turns and looks at him, leveling her eyes on his face.  "Would you stay and take care of the villagers or do you have that adventurous bone in you that Kenver has and would follow along just to see what trouble I could get into?"  She walks over to stand in front of him and looks him directly in the eyes before he has a chance to answer.

QuoteOODM: Slight color change for Maban to differentiate him better from his brother.

Maban chuckled softly. "To be perfectly honest, though Kenver is my twin brother, we're actually quite different. I do care and love my brother for who he is though, yet, if given the choice, I would personally prefer if we are all to stay here. Kenver no doubt would look forward to adventures of course, but for me, leading the people that I care about is the journey that I chose for myself. That said... apart from the villagers, those people that I care about would be you and Kenver. You can be sure that I would follow after you and Kenver, if only to pull you the both of you out of that trouble once you get into it. We may even run into our sister out there." He laughed softly.

"Besides, I can always do mayor work after all this is done."

Diane nods, glad she's at least getting some straight answers.  She half turns, exposing half of her face to the sun and leave half of it shadowed.  He looks out of the corner of her eye at Maban again, "Perhaps you could tell me what Kenver would say to being released from your obligation to me.  And naturally, what you think you'd do if released, at least as far as your reaction."  Turning to face Maban fully, Diane smirks and leans over and kisses his forehead lightly.  "Surely you'd be able to answer that for me hmm?"

Both Maban and Kenver were on the taller-side. But seeing your action, he did slightly lower his head a bit. Maban smiled gently, a faint blush on his cheeks. "You honor me, hero. But I can tell you now that if we were released with our obligations, we would still follow. This is something that generations of my family have maintained and prepared for. I would do them a disservice if I would do otherwise, even if it's not for me, or for you specifically, it would still be for my ancestors before me."

"You are duty bound like a knight in the old fairy tales in my world," she smiles tiredly and turns, the moon and star light lighting the room some.  "I love the night, Maban, the world is painted in white light from the stars and moon.  It is rather stark and simple, black and white. Well, that and the multitude of grey shades.  I love the world as such.  Life is simpler, at least it seems so."  Shaking her head she turns, "I am sorry, I have kept you from whatever you might have to do after you showed me here.  Please, go have some me time and I will get some sleep.  I feel terrible that I took up so much of your time, at least as far as having a life of your own"

"My dear hero Diane, please do not say you're sorry, I and my brother exist here to serve. Now, enjoy the rest of your evening, if you need anything, my brother or I will likely be up for another hour or two to take care of things for the journey tomorrow. Otherwise... I'll see you tomorrow morning." Maban said as he bowed his head and began to leave.

Smiling, she covers a yawn, "Thank you,  but this day has been trying and honestly, I am still not convinced that slipping away in the no..but and leading Kayden and her retinue away from here isn't a bad thing."  Turning and looking at the bed she yawns louder, "I think sleep is what is called for.  So I bid you good night dear boy."
