Fantasy World Creations

You stirred awake, the mana crystals embedded into the ceiling and walls were glowing bright enough to mimic the early morning rays, a notification appeared in a translucent green window.

However, there was one sight that was off in the otherwise picturesque scene. A little girl with light purple hair, was snuggled in-between you and the sleeping Valeriya. When you woke up, she seemed to stir.

As her eyes opened, Rosalie stared at the sleeping girl. She looked to Valeriya, then back to the sleeping girl. Definitely two people here. She rubbed her eyes and focused on the stranger. Reaching out, she touched the purple haired girl's shoulder gently and whispered "Who are you?"

When you touched her shoulder, the girl lazily opened her eyes and blinked when she noticed you. She then attempted to bite you.

The girl moved fast, too fast. One moment you were gently waking her up, the next moment her mouth was clamped on your hand. She clamped down hard, but it didn't quite draw any blood.

She seemed to mumble.

"Mmm... Why are you sleeping with sister?"

It took every ounce of patience to not raise her hand at a child. She looked down at the girl gnawing on her hand and told her what was going on. "I'm sure you've heard that your sister has a new dragonknight, the hero. That's me. Now if you could stop biting me it would be wise. You should see what I did to my competition at the ceremony."

The little girl's eyes flared instead.

"Sister is mine! You can't have her!" She said, her voice muffled as she continued to clamp on your hand.

"You'll want to take that up with your mother. I just showed up in this world and followed orders." With that, Rosalie attempted to wriggle her hand free of the girl's bite.

You managed to get away from her clutches, and it was then that the little girl instead snuggled up to Valeriya, and clung to her arm. It was at this point that Valeriya woke.

"Rosalie?" Valeriya said sleepily. A moment later she noticed the clinging form. "Wait. Alyona! What are you doing here?"

Valeriya got up then, trying to push Alyona away, but the little girl was attached tight to her.

"No! No! No! That's not fair!" She then turned towards you. "Don't take her away from me!" She said, her eyes nearly bawling with tears.

Rosalie looked down at the girl who looked to be devastated. "Well, you know how the world is. There is a crisis. If your sister was going to be forced to fight either way, you should be glad that she managed to get the strongest person around. We'll go and take care of the problems facing your people and be back before you know it."

"Rosalie is right. Plus we talked about this already... Besides your own ceremony will be next year. You'll find yourself a nice young man..." Though her words were kind, you noticed Valeriya grimace.

She turned towards you while Alyona still clung to her.

"Well, I guess you've met Alyona... Most of the other dragons are my 'sisters', but not quite too... You see, if a dragon and their knight companion have a child, it's either in the form of an egg, or a human. If its an egg, the Elder takes care of it, but if it's a baby human, then it goes to the father. That said, the dragons that are contracted usually stay in their human forms simply because, generally, they live with contracted knight, usually in the town or city somewhere."

"Alyona got attached to me since she was young... She shares my cave, even though she has her own."

"Why can't sister and I have a contract?" She complained, but something in her eyes told you that she probably already knew the answer.

Valeriya didn't answer, but instead ruffled the kid's hair. She glanced at you, in an apologetic grin.

"You guys don't need one. I'm sure that you're already really strong Alyona. And since you're strong, its your duty to help the weak. Now that I have a contract with Valeriya, I'm strong too, so I need to help the people that need help, and she does too. You know, our human friends are having a really tough time with some really bad guys, so we need to do our best to help them out." Rosalie wasn't really sure how to treat this new dragon, she seemed much more like a human child than a dragon.

"So you need to do your part to help as well. Don't worry though, Valeriya won't be in any danger. You can ask the others if she is in good hands or not."

The little girl went from being upset to tears swelling in her eyes.

"But you're taking her away... Everyone goes away after the ceremony..." She seemed to muster up courage then.

"Where she goes, I will go to!" Alyona declared.

Valeriya sighed.

"If you really want to go, you'll have to prove to both of us that you're strong enough to hold your own. We won't be able to keep an eye on you all the time and I know that the elder would probably skin me alive if anything happened to you. Deal?"

"DEAL!" Alyona cheered, her frown replaced with a huge smile.

Rosalie smiled as she thought of a plan that would likely keep the girl at home. "Alright, first things first. If you want to go with us, like I said you need to prove you're strong. So you need to go and beat Hertha in a fight. We will be watching so you can't just walk around for an hour and come back and say that she has been defeated."

Alyona agreed, and Valeriya, seeing that the rest were going along with it, decided to tag along. Eventually you made it to the training ground, and already Hertha was practicing some swings of her own. She was surprisingly quick and fast, when she noticed you, she called out.

"Hero! Tis a fine morning today, won't thee agree? And a morning to thee too, Valeriya... And... thine sister, correct?" Hertha asked.

"Yes... This is Alyona... And Alyona, meet Hertha." Valeriya said, introducing the two.

"But prithee hero... For tis good tidings that you hath decided to come hither." She pointed towards a sword in a metallic bucket. It was burning bright in flames, though the metal itself was simply glowing orange and red. You could tell that it was hot.

"Tis thy sword... You hath left it hither when thou went to the ceremony... Which, I shalt congratulate thee on choosing Valeriya. Tis a fine choice. But... Thy training weapon? Tis still in flames..." She looked carefully at you.

"Prithee tell me... Thy imbuement spell lasts this long? Prithee tell me... what hath thou done?"

Rosalie looked upon the sword in awe. It had been a day. "You know, I can't say how long it lasts. All I know is that I have an ability called enchant. It looks like it allows me to make a weapon imbued with some sort of magical property. I haven't had a chance to test too much of since I haven't been here for long but it looks like a skill that will be very useful. Do you have any insight, Hertha?  Also, we are here to have Alyona battle you to prove her strength to us. Think you could arrange that?

"Enchant? Tis unfortunate news that no, I hath not heard that afore this." Hertha said, but she glanced at the sword again.

"Depending on the spell, an enchantment usually lasts mayhaps half an hour, and at most a few hours. Though, of course tis a general case, and not always truth. But... Tis been o'er a half day, and thy sword burns ever brightly still. In all mine years... I hath not seen anything such as this, save for legendary weapons, or those magic weapons from the ancient times..." She shook her head.

"Alyona, t'would like to test thy strength?" Hertha asked studying the little girl. "Thou art a dragon, but save for Valeriya, most dragons taking the ceremony ritual art young, much like thineself... Tis true that thy race have powerful abilities, and natural gifts to magic, sight, and pure strength... Very well then. Use thy dragon form."

With that Alyona transformed. However, she wasn't as large as Valeriya at all. She was roughly bigger than a horse, but nowhere near Valeriya's size.

"Around this age is when they start having a growth spurt... Unfortunately Alyona has been the runt all her life, so she might seem a bit smaller than her peers."

"Hmm, tis an understatement... Thou art partaking of the ceremony the year after? Why does thou want to prove thyself?"

"I need to prove my strength!" Alyona responded immediately, switching back to her human form.

"But why?"

"So I can go with my sister..." Alyona said.

Hertha smiled. She neared the little dragon girl then, and placed a hand on her cheek, then her shoulder.

"For thine family then. Tis a noble thing. The Valkyrie hath a saying... 'The ends of mine sword, starts with the strength of mine family'. That means... that true strength comes from here." Hertha said, placing a hand on Alyona's chest. "Thine heart. And thine heart for thy family."

Hertha stood up again, then looked towards you to confirm.

"Tis a true fight then? I shalt not hold back, though, I shalt be using wooden blades for this. Doth thou agreeth with me?"

"I feel like if you hold back it would defeat the purpose of this mission for Alyona. I look forward to seeing her strength, and more of your combat ability as well Hertha." Rosalie was surprised to see that Alyona was such a small dragon, but as she knew it was wrong to judge anything by its appearance alone. Perhaps she contained great strength in that small frame.

"Very well then hero." She then made her way to one end of the arena.

"Alyona! Art thy prepared?" Hertha asked as she drew her blade. In response Alyona transformed herself into a dragon.

Hertha grinned.

"Hereth I come!" Hertha announced, all of a sudden, you felt what a slight pressure in the air. It felt like it came from Hertha herself, and even Valeriya noticed.

"She really is going all out huh..."

"Spirits of mine ancestors, and souls of mine forebears be with me." A red wind started to envelop Hertha as well.

In that same moment, Alyona released electricity from her mouth.

Hertha managed to evade, though some of the electricity still singed her.

A moment after that, Hertha vanished in sight. Appearing right behind Alyona, she unleashed two strikes then.

Round 2b
Hertha's aim was slightly off and bounced off Alyona's armor. Alyona panicked, then attempted to take flight. Seeing the opportunity, Hertha struck out again.

Round 2c
Alyona's hide was too thick yet again, and it bounced off. Flying high above, Alyona released a bolt of electricity.

Round 3
The lightning struck Hertha, as she was singed.

Hertha began chanting then.

"Leir! Protect thy servant from the storms. Earth Cloak!" A cloak made out of stone manifested themselves upon her, the rocks and stones from the ground she stood on suddenly shooting upwards, then connecting to each other, forming a solid piece. Surprisingly it seemed to still sway.

She then focused on her weapon, and red winds started to surround it as well.

The next powerful blast of lightning came, it managed to hit Hertha once again.

Round 4
Hertha then seemed to do something impossible, she managed to jump into the air, her feet touching something solid, or at the very least, she seemed to be instantly disappearing upwards into the air, closing the gap to Alyona. She once suddenly in front of Alyona, while still in mid-air, Alyona released an attack.

Alyona attempted to respond by biting, clawing, using her wings to buffet Hertha in midair, and finally using her tail.

Hertha seemed to stay afloat in mid air, seemingly teleporting. She swung twice then, but not before feeling another intensity of fighting spirit from Hertha.

Round 5a
Hertha managed to land a solid blow to Alyona's head. Though her second attack bounced off Alyona's scale.

Alyona was panicking again, getting distance as she flew downwards. Hertha saw an opportunity to attack and she let her wooden blade swipe at the fleeing dragon.

Hertha managed to avoid in mid-air, but was singed slightly. Hertha looked really bruised and battered. There were burn marks on her, but Alyona was in a similar state as well.

Hertha however, wasn't looking too good. There were burn marks through her body, and Alyona didn't hold back when she was using her claws to attack earlier.

"What... sayeth you... hero Rosalie?" Hertha asked, as she sheathed the wooden blade.

Valeriya ran over to Alyona, checking on her.

"She's out cold..."

"She'll be fine... I didn't enchant mine weapon with fire or anything that might actually harm her... She mayeth be a bit bruised. Her pride too."

"Well, we had an agreement and Alyona didn't uphold her end of the bargain so I guess she's not ready to travel with us, no matter how much she wants to." Rosalie felt bad for the girl who gave it her best effort, but like she had said before, trying to protect her would be something that would be too difficult. It was unfortunate that she didn't win but hopefully Alonya would stick to her end of the agreement.

"It can't be helped. I'll drop her by a the Elder's, she'll talk to her." Valeriya said as she gently moved the hair out of Alyona's unconscious face.

"Then before thy stay finishes... What will thou do with that?" She said pointing to the burning blade still in the metal bucket.

"I don't know what to do with the sword. Do we have a sheath that will work for it? Maybe I could take it with me and make it my first real weapon. Probably good to see how long the flame lasts too." Rosalie ran her fingers through her hair as she looked at the bucket with the sword in it. "I really don't understand this power.."

"Dost thou know of any spell that can prevent fire?" Hertha asked. She pulled her own sword out, then unstrapped the scabbard attacked to her.

She then threw it at you.

"If thou can make a sword that burns so brightly. Perhaps thy can too make a scabbard that prevents its heat." Hertha said, explaining her idea. "Dost thou remember the spell I hath used? Ice Cloak?"

Rosalie walked over to the flaming sword, removing it from the bucket and putting it in the sheath. "let's see if this works." After sheathing the sword, she draws it to see if the blade is still wrapped in flames.

When you touched the blade, it didn't seem warm or hot at all to you. And finally, when you slid it into the scabbard, the cooling effect worked, and the fires were extinguished - at least while it was in the scabbard.

Rosalie pulled the sword back out and gave it a couple swings. "Looks like I have a new weapon for the moment. Anyone able to teach me how to use it a bit better?" It looked like her power would prove to be quite useful after all. It would take time to figure out everything she could do with it.

Hertha had grinned, then offered up her services.
