《Carrie's Character Sheet (http://forums.fantasyworldcreations.com/index.php?topic=1894.msg16116#new)
《Chapter 1: State of Emergency》
Location: United States - South Carolina - MCRD PI
Date: Year 2017 - October 31rd - 03:31It would have been a peaceful night. The next day would have been more drilling into the various recruits that were sent your way. For some reason the government had been driving up their recruitment during the last year, and already the number of new trainees they gave your platoon were becoming too large. That said, being in the US was at least more peaceful than being deployed.
Unfortunately, life wasn't going to be giving Sergeant Cook any peace - at least not tonight. With most people still unconscious and sound asleep, the siren alarm calls throughout the installation started blaring, waking everyone up almost instantaneously.
The notification system kicked in as well, as you noticed your phone buzz too at incoming messages.
There was no drill or test for the emergency system that was scheduled, but you knew you had to report to receive the emergency debriefing.
It then occurred to Carrie while she rapidly rolled out of the sack and donned her uniform that for these particular sirens to be wailing, particularly at this exceptionally early hour, without such a scheduled test or drill could only mean one thing. Upon that moment of sudden realization, the other shoe dropped. The Shit Had Hit The Fan.
Given that this was no ordinary emergency, Carrie added both her Ka-bar and Beretta to her duty belt before opting for the utility cover she often wore while deployed over the stetson typically worn by a Drill Instructor, donning this last just after bolting out of her quarters at a dead sprint toward the command post.
As the young sergeant sprinted toward her destination through the shadows cast by the lights illuminating the recruit depot, her senses were heightened by the knowledge that there could be a hostile presence anywhere on the base, causing every blown leaf skittering across the ground, every crunch of boots on dry gravel and dirt as others made their way to the same place, and every voice to seem to her as if right next to her ear. Every slight motion within Carrie's field of vision drew her gaze for at least a brief instant before she identified the source, their individual shapes ultimately betraying their nature and identity.
The air was cold and the weather clear, allowing the sound of the sirens to carry a great distance, and Carrie could only imagine that the noise would be leaving the locals rather indignant about being awakened at such an hour. She only hoped that whatever event was causing the alarm hadn't originated off base in a nearby neighborhood. If innocent people were harmed, there would be hell to pay should Carrie find the culprit or culprits.
While you were headed towards the command post, you couldn't help but notice the clear skies. Though the moon was out, it seemed strangely dark, there were patches of the night sky where the stars were suddenly missing, or were not there. It was hard to tell whether something was blocking the sight of them, or some other phenomena. The flurry of activity around you didn't cease while you continued your march. The Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island was home to almost 12,000 recruits these days with the drive of recruitment the last year, along with around 1,500 permanent personnel. With everyone going off to their destination, or simply waiting for further orders and instructions, there was a tensity in the air that was hard to miss.
"Sergeant Cook! Shit! Just woke up? Some news from DC just maybe 10 minutes or so ago. All the military bases on the east coast is probably like this right now..." It was one of the other instructors for your platoon, named sergeant Roberta Wright, a muscular and handsome woman with thick arms.
"Details are fuzzy, but its big enough that they're mobilizing whatever they have here..."QuotePerception requested

There was something strange in the sky, for a moment you thought it must have been some sort of constellation or star, however, it wasn't anything o the sort. No one else around seemed to have been staring at it. If you were to describe it, it looked like a slight crack in the sky, if the sky was some sort of glass pane that is. The crack itself glowed white.
"Cad é in ainm Dia sin?"
Carrie pauses briefly as she notices the unusual phenomenon in the sky above, coming to a new understanding of the situation that there were apparently few details on. Now she knew why. She hadn't seen anything like it before, and she doubted that anyone else had either. She quickly resumed her pace toward the command post, taking a moment to respond to Sergeant Wright, who no doubt would be confused by her reflexive use of the Irish language just a moment ago, but would no doubt be aware that Carrie only did so when something had shocked her or infuriated her.
"Well, I can at least tell you we're not dealing with a conventional enemy attack. But whatever the feck that is, it's already overhead so lets not be wasting any time."
Carrie takes a moment to point out the unidentified phenomenon as she speaks, beginning to figure out how she was going to describe it to her immediate superior once she arrived at her destination. This was going to be a tricky one. The young Marine almost wished she were dealing with a conventional enemy attack. almost.
"What in the world..." Sergeant Wright stared at it for a moment as she squinted up at the night sky. She spent just a few seconds too long staring at it however, and she picked herself up to catch up with you.
"Looked like some glowing.... crack?" Roberta said, her voice uncertain when she finally caught up to your brisk pace.
"You think its an attack?"
QuoteAnother perception requested!
You belonged to the 4th Recruit Training Battalion of MCRD PI, each of the four primary housing for each battalion on the island contained a command post, or at the very least, a communications array. On a wide field between the housing for the recruits along with your own quarters, a variety of tents had already been setup, along with more being propped up at that very moment. You recognized your company's captain, along with a few others at the tent, you also recognized the 4th Recruit Training Battalion's Lieutenant Colonel, a lieutenant colonel Posey, who seemed to barking into a radio.
"Come again? You're telling me to arm everyone and ready them? Christs, they're greenhorns!"

When you looked to the sky again, you realized that the crack had gotten bigger. It wasn't just one crack anymore either. You also noticed that the glowing crack in the sky didn't seem to move in relation with the stars up ahead, it was as if it was closer to the ground than the stars above. No one else seemed to notice the crack yet, but you knew it wouldn't be long. Even as you stared at it, the crack began to slowly grow and spread.
"No idea.", Carrie replied to Sergeant Wright with thicker Irish accent than normal, "But whatever it is, it's getting bigger and it's much closer to the ground than it first appeared. I've got a feeling that whatever's about to go down is going to go down very soon."
Carrie arrives then at the command post, immediately reporting in to her Captain.
"Sir!", she began, "If you haven't already, you likely want to take a look overhead! The cause of this commotion's right above us!"
Carrie immediately points out the strange phenomenon and awaits a response or an order. This was a scenario she had no training for, no experience with, and no idea the nature of. If it has been a flying saucer, she'd have had a better idea of how to respond, as insane as even that idea was! Carrie sincerely hoped somebody in military intelligence had already come up with a protocol for this because as things currently stood, the whole situation seemed poised to devolve into a giant clusterfuck.
"Sergeant Cook, the lieutenant colonel's just receiving our orders." She said as she nodded to both you and Sergeant Wright, then she began to look towards where you pointed at, and her eyes widened.
"What the hell is that?""Alright, loud and clear." Lieutenant Colonel Posey said into the radio, she sighed as she turned towards the three captains.
"Alright, orders from the top, we're giving every marine here, recruit or staff, a weapon, and all vehicles are to be manned and ready. Then we await for further orders. Christs, all hell's going loose. And what are you looking at Captain?"Your captain pointed to the sky, as the Lieutenant followed her gaze. She too noticed the glowing crack in the sky.
"Ah shit. Give me that radio!" The moment she received it she started loudly calling into it.
"The so-called cracks in the sky over in New York? They're here too." She glanced at the captain.
"You have your orders captain! Get the platoons ready!" She barked her orders as your captain saluted. She turned towards you then shrugged the moment the Lieutenant Colonel was back on the radio explaining the situation.
QuoteWe can go as detailed into RPing or as broad as you want/prefer. Feel free to do broad actions like getting your platoon ready in a single post, if you wish. In that case you can roll Profession (soldier) to see how well/fast you gather your troops and set them up properly. Feel free to do any other actions as well.
Carrie immediately dashes back out of the command tent, headed for the barracks containing the recruits in her care. Once there, she wakes them, and instructs them, at considerable volume, to assemble on the field outside as usual. She then explains the situation, and with the assistance of the rest of the Marine drill instructors, directed the lot of them to the armory so that they could be outfitted with appropriate weapons and body armor. Once all of her recruits have been equipped, Sergeant Cook arms herself opting for the first kit she had been assigned during her career, that of an assault infantryman. Whatever was going to happen, recon was unlikely to be immediately useful given the phenomenon's proximity.
Carrie then joined her recruits once more and began directing them to the best positions for defending the base. There was a clear element of fear and surprise visible in their eyes. They weren't even into hell week yet, and they were still being armed for battle anyway. Carrie makes a point of approaching anyone displaying particular distress to bolster their confidence both in themself, and the tactical situation. In a situation like this, facing the unknown, the greatest enemy would be fear itself.

The 4th Recruit Training Battalion was comprised of about 4,000 female recruits. The battalion contained three companies; November, Oscar, and Papa. You belonged to November company, headed by a Captain, which consisted of 60 platoons. In your platoon, there were four instructors, including yourself. Sergeant Cook (Sgt, E-5), Sergeant Wright (Sgt, E-5), Staff Sergeant Brown (SSgt, E-6), finally Corporal Miller (Cpl, E-4). Your platoon had 68 recruits, divided into 4 separate squads of 17 recruits.
Sergeant Wright, and Staff Sergeant Brown had already gotten their squads in order. Corporal Miller was lagging behind as well.
However, due to the pressure everyone was under, no one really commented, and soon enough, each of the recruits were armed. This was the first time they would be using their weapons for non-training purposes. Many of them had fear in their eyes from the uncertainty of what was happening.
QuoteCharisma roll requested or Profession (soldier), this will affect your squad slightly in their own rolls.
Once you lead your squad into a position beside your other platoon instructors, it was then that those cracks in the sky started to get wider and increase.

When the cracks in the sky would get wider, it almost seemed as if parts of the sky were falling off, much like you would expect from a shattering glass. It was pitch darkness where the glowing lines opened up, and you felt as if you could see something appear in the crack itself.

I should probably note that Carrie would set the Rules of Engagement for her recruits to firing only when ordered or in self-defense unless someone higher in rank says otherwise.
At that moment, something large had appeared from the crack. You weren't able to get a good look at it until it fell however. It crashed into the ground, falling and smashing buildings on its way down. You had no idea what it was, but it was huge.

A few seconds later as the large creature started destroying more buildings, some heavy armor piercing shells had been fired, along with a barrage of rockets that exploded into the creatures side. It seems like the HIMARS and M1 Abrams had been deployed, and already those soldiers in that battery were at orders for full fire. However, no reprieve was given as more cracks continued to appear in the sky, and this time, more of them were falling. All sorts of different types and sizes. They were all metallic and pink-colored. They made sounds that sounded
crystal-like, whether it was a form of communication or simply sounds, it was not known. All everyone knew was that it seemed to reverberate across the entirety of the complex.
And indeed, as the creatures fell from all around you, from all points in the sky above, falling from the cracks, their reverberating call was almost alien.

The large one was being pummeled by a barrage of rockets and shells, however, it was the smaller ones that came pouring from the skies that started to target after the soldiers of MCRD PI. There were a few from other platoons who had already engaged without order, as some had already fallen straight on top of the soldiers.
It was then that your radio came down with blaring orders.
"SHOOT THE FUCKERS!"QuoteCall out your targets, among those 3. Your squad of 17 will help. There are other types, around, but those three are the nearest. Assume you have a gun, use the stats for d20 Modern weapons: http://www.d20resources.com/modern.d20.srd/equipment/weapons.longarms.php

From deep in its throat, you caught a glimpse of something that reflected red. You couldn't tell if it was something that glowed, or simply reflected the ambient light. It was hard to tell whether it was metallic, or something else. But there was at least something deep in its mouth. The tail end of the creature was sharp, and it mouth too was full of rows of metallic 'teeth'. It was 45 ft. long. It looked dangerous.;
Perception (Spider-Type): 22
Must smaller than the others, this one was around the size of a small car. Each of its legs were pointed, and it had two sharp incisors at the front. Each of its eyes were red-colored. However, they reflected light differently than the pink-metal that made up the creature. They looked almost like gemstones.
It took Carrie a moment to actually register just what it was she was looking at, but once she finally accepted that what she was seeing wasn't some mad hallucination, she immediately turned her weapon on the nearest snakelike creature that she could see, aiming at the red inside its mouth. It was a guess, really, that it might be a weak point but the mouth seemed like a reasonably vulnerable point to target.

"Aim for anything red on these things!", Carrie shouts instructions to her recruits, noticing the common theme that locations which would be vulnerable on similar creatures appeared to share a common color on these gigantic monstrosities, "They might be weak points!"
Something else was buzzing around the back of the young sergeant's brain. An idea suddenly surfaced as she started to place the sounds the creatures were making. Carrie quickly approaches a nearby Humvee equipped with the new LRAD system and gets the gunner's attention.
"These things sound like they're crystalline!", she explains over the intense sounds of gunfire, "Turn on that LRAD and crank it up to max volume! See if you can't find a frequency that fucks them up!"
(For reference, an LRAD 450XL broadcasts sound out to 1700meters, and has been used not just for mass notification, but crowd control when set to certain frequencies. The hope is that whatever the source of the crystalline sound is, the use of the LRAD at a correct frequency will break it. Some models are capable of broadcasting in a 360 degree arc, but this one is probably going to be the variant with a 30 degree arc. Larger types do exist but are generally mounted to fixed structures, or larger vehicles like ships.)
The moment you called out your target, each of the squad members started firing at the snake-like creature, each of them aiming for its mouth where you had seen the red glow. Most of them missed, but a couple of the rounds managed to hit their target.
30 damage dealt to Snake
The snake-type creature doubled back from all the gunfire, as the shots hit the gem inside it. Its glowing eyes seemed to flicker then, and it visibly slowed down its assault but it continued to stay up. The rest of the platoons were dealing with their own targets, there were many shouts of pain as the creatures had begun slicing through the soldiers. Limbs and bodies were torn into pieces as the blood and gore spread wide, both splattering on the ground and on fellow soldiers.
QuoteRoll CHA or Soldier (profession) to prevent your troops from fleeing, and to continue attacking.
"Yes sir!" The gunner replied back, aiming it towards a large group. The creatures seemed to momentarily get stunned, as they began to shiver. They too began emitting their own sounds, perhaps in an attempt to neutralize what was affecting them. This of course, made them easier targets.
QuoteWill be treating this as a bonus to attack rolls for the other platoons, along with yours. Add a +4 for your next rolls on targets that are affected by the LRAD.

She then turns to the humvee's crew. "You're in the right ballpark! See if you can fine-tune the frequency for best effect! Something on or inside them might break! Driver! Advance with our squad! We'll coordinate our efforts with the LRAD!"
Even with your orders, some of the recruits broke rank, fleeing away from the metallic snake-like creature.

The rest of the recruits held their ground, realizing that there was no where else they could go. Everyone continued firing their weapons, and reloading even as more and more cracks appeared in the night sky. There were at least two more types, and a couple more of the large kaiju-like creatures had appeared as well. Whenever one of those landed, a huge crater was created. By this time there were hundreds, if not thousands, of them.
And more were coming.

You unloaded your burst fire on the metallic snake-like creature. You manage to hit, the rest of the squad began firing at the same time. The creature was still not able to respond, trying to fight off the sounds. Many of the other creatures were affected similarly. And the rest of your soldiers, along with other squads and platoons, used the opportunity to attempt to push back.
Damage dealt to creature
The radio buzzed in response.
"Copy that Sergeant Cook! Relaying the information now."QuoteFor specific mechanics, we'll do 1 round of Stun, and damage as per the Shatter spell in Pathfinder, the LRAD needs to be targeted towards them. Also changing Mass Battle rules so that it occurs once per turn, rather than the once per hour or so. So we can get this moving quickly. End result will be that your units seem to die fast, but the same with the enemies.

Carrie had chosen to cease worrying about the six that had decided to flee and simply focus on the situation and task in front of her and those who relied upon her. It wasn't that the turn of events didn't frustrate and infuriate her. Quite the opposite in fact. Carrie just knew better than to bother. The chances that she would see them alive again to even begin to address their failings was extremely slim. Better to focus on that which she could still influence.
With the shock from the LRAD wearing off, the creatures were starting to get used to the changing frequencies, and at various intervals, you could tell that they were taking damage from the sonic-based attacks.
You attempted to burst fire, but many of the attacks bounced off its hard shell, and you weren't able to deal any damage. The rest of your squad fired as well, however, a couple of them managed to his their mark. You watched in satisfaction as many pieces of the creatures mouth was falling off, or damaged severely. The LRAD continued to fire though, and at the very least you knew that it was working.
The creature attacked another one of your squad mates, slicing the poor woman in two.
You heard some chatter on the radio, it seems like your tip with aiming for the red-colored spots on the creatures was helping. Your comms buzzed in from the captain of your company.
"Sergeant Cook! Damn fine job figuring that one out."The enemies started to fight fiercer, abandoning their defense, the horse of monsters came rushing upon all four battalions.
More chatter came through the comms.
"This is first Battalion! We're losing too many men here!"There were cries, and sounds of gunfire through the comms, but first battalion's base was simply too far to walk through the many metallic creatures from your point to theirs.

While waiting for an answer, Carrie continues to blast away at the wounded creature's more exposed mouth with the remaining members of her squad and the LRAD operator.

"Recruit Gomez!", Carrie calls out, "If the Captain gives this plan the green light, you take the rest of this squad and link up with Drill Instructor Sergeant Wright! She'll keep you lot busy while I'm gone!"
Carrie was more than willing to risk her life going all in for this plan, but she was by no means willing to leave her unit without a leader. Carrie could trust Wright. In a situation like this, she had to. The bond of trust was quite literally a matter of life and death in combat.
"Permission granted sergeant!" Your captain responded as you attempted to fire at the metallic snake, your shots missed however.
"Aye, aye ma'am!" Recruit Gomez shouted out at the top of her lungs over the gunfire and crystalline sounds.
Southbound on Korea street was a huge firefight. Soldiers on the western side of the road, shooting, and defending from a horse of metallic creatures dropping from the east and south.
QuoteAssuming you're on the Humvee, let the driver know how fast/slow to go. DCs will be affected.
The moment the captain granted permission for the maneuver, Carrie immediately leaps into the Humvee behind the driver and gives him a new destination.
"Head for the admin buildings near DI school! Haul ass, but keep the tires on the ground! Our number one priority is getting this LRAD,
intact, to a mic hooked into the PA system!", The young sergeant orders, then while the vehicle turns around to make tracks toward its new destination she instructs the gunner, "Point that LRAD straight over our hood! It should help keep our path clear!"
As the vehicle begins moving away, Carries takes one last parting shot at the mouth gem of the snake creature that her squad had been tangling with through the still open door, hoping to put it down so that the recruits could themselves maneuver with less of an issue.

As the vehicle pulls away from her squad, Carrie briefly wonders how many of them she'd see alive again. Her thoughts then quickly turn back to the immediate task at hand; Saving the lives of as many of her brothers and sisters in arms as she possibly could. She knew that success or failure in her new endeavor quite literally would spell the difference between life and death for many of them, perhaps herself included. Carrie resolved in that instant not to fail the Marines depending on her. She found herself fully prepared to sell her life dearly for the Corps should the task demand it of her.
(The driver should be moving quickly, by no means obeying speed limits, but shouldn't even be considering allowing the vehicle to catch air.)
The driver stepped on the gas, the wheels turned and he was on his way. The LRAD operator heeded your commands, and aimed the device, still blaring, towards the south. When the driver was on his way southwards, trying to sneak in between the gunfire from the soldiers from the west, and the metallic creatures to the east, it was at that point that one of the scorpion-like metallic creatures jumped forward.

Looking around you noted that the stream of creatures falling from the skies still continued. It was like rain. If only rain were giant metallic creatures that could rip apart a human being. It was then too, that you noticed that some of the creatures of a same type, were just slightly bigger than the rest, and these had been firing off beams of lasers from either their eyes or their mouths. The battle continued to rage all around you. The chatter on the radio was loud and deafening as you heard the death cries of your fellow soldiers, the constant slew of gunfire, the rattling of explosions from missiles, and the crystalline sounds coming from the creatures.

Carrie looked on in horror as more and more of the creatures continued to fall from the sky, some of them even firing what looked like
frickin' laser beams from their eyes and mouths. The sounds of battle were deafening, but those were sounds Carrie was used to. The one sound that she could never get out of her head though was the screams of the dying soldiers being incidentally broadcast via radios across the battlefield. Carrie took the opportunity provided by the lack of maneuvering to take a shot at one of the creatures' weak points as they passed by.

She just hoped that the impact it would have on the battlefield would be enough to hold out until they were reinforced, or at least began to hear the familiar sound of A-10 Warthogs overhead. The 30mm Anti-Tank Cannon they carried into battle would be incredibly useful in a situation like the one that MCRD Paris Island was currently facing.

Carrie quickly reached for and clung to the overhead handle in the vehicle's interior in order to avoid sliding out the open door as the vehicle just barely misses being struck by the creature as it passes by. "Get ready to swing that LRAD around!", she calls out to the gunner, then the driver, "When we arrive, we'll need it for anything following us! Driver! You'll be responsible for setting up the LRAD broadcast! Got it?"
Carrie's mind went for a moment to the overall state of the battle. Based on the radio call-outs she had heard, she estimated that half of the units present had holed up in defensive positions. The other half hadn't made any calls for support yet, so she figured they were at least doing all right. Still, the situation likely spoke to losses somewhere between 25 and 40 percent. The scenario was already far direr than any that Carrie had previously faced. The pressure was on, and Carrie knew it. The battle was one for survival, and the outcome could very well depend on whether or not the broadcast could be maintained for a sustained period.
You fired again, but you missed your target.

There was a few more seconds of silence. Finally the radio turned on again.

As the vehicle arrived and the driver dismounted, the chaos coming through over the radio made it clear that 1st Battalion was being overrun. Carrie's heart sank, knowing that it was now unlikely that there would be any survivors. The pain she felt at that moment quickly transitioned into outright fury, and that fury had a direction. The young sergeant raised her weapon as she exited the vehicle and leveled it at the onrushing sword spider, unleashing another burst at the creature's eyes while advancing on it out in the open. Carrie intended to eliminate the creature as quickly as possible. (Shifting posture to reckless)

If a hit:
Rolled 4d8+6 : 1, 1, 5, 4 + 6, total 17
(If the +4 bonus from an LRAD stun doesn't apply, just subtract 4 from the attack roll.)
Carrie's mind was now filled with macabre, gleeful anticipation of the damage that unleashing an LRAD tone base-wide would inflict upon the creatures that were currently running roughshod over the place.
You fired again, but the bullets seemed to bounce off of it's hide. The LRAD operator continued to fire the weapon at it.
Over the gunfire, your radio flickered again, addressed to you.
"Everything here is ready." The driver now broadcaster operator said.
"Coming out in a second!"QuoteThe guy will be heading out with cables to attach to the LRAD in the next turn.
The sword-spider moved towards you, screeching in that same crystalline cry. With the LRAD operator being closer, tt attacked with one of it's slashes. He tried to get out of the way, but it still hit him. Luckily, he moved away enough not to be sliced in a single shot. However, the wound was bleeding profusely. Judging from the wound, he wouldn't last much longer.
"Damn... it..." Your radio flickered at the same time.
"The horde of monsters on first Batallion is breaking up... Wait... Shit! They're headed towards 2nd Battalion!"QuoteLocal Status

Carrie: 17, Bleed 5[/include]
Seeing the situation unfolding in front of her, Carrie vaults on top of the Humvee's hood and moves onto the roof, placing herself above the LRAD operator, seeking to make herself a more immediate issue for the creature. She blasts another burst at the creature's eyes, hoping to get its attention at the very least.
Rolled 1d20+5 : 16 + 5, total 21
If a hit:
Rolled 4d8+6 : 8, 5, 7, 4 + 6, total 30
She then depresses the magazine release and quickly slots another magazine into its place. Carrie opted to reload early, leaving the weapon with a round still in the chamber when she did so, enabling her to skip the step of operating the action to load the first round from the magazine into an empty weapon.
Carrie, instead of using the radio given how the driver was on his way back out, simply shouts to the man, "Heads up, on your way out! We've got company!"
Carrie had had enough of the jumbo-sized metal/crystal monsters getting the better of the Marines on their home turf. If the creature attacking the LRAD operator didn't fall before the driver arrived, she fully intended to try luring it away by using herself as bait. No way in
hell was she going to let it fuck with this broadcast. The lives of every person on Paris Island depended on it. If Carrie had to sacrifice herself here so that everyone else might live, she considered the trade to be more than fair.
You fired once again, this time managing to hit. You dealt a lot of damage as it seemed to recoil from the attack. However, it turned its attention towards you. The creature moved over to you, then attacked. It's blade managed to cut deep even as you tried to move away. Like the LRAD operator from before, your wounds too were gushing blood.
At this point the driver was on his way out, carrying the cable, with it streaming back towards the PA system. His eyes went wide when he noticed both you and the LRAD operator bleeding profusely, but managing to lead over the railing of the vehicle.
"That doesn't look good man." The driver said as he handed the operator the cables.
The operator himself could barely keep going, but he managed to plug it into the LRAD, and activate it. At the same moment the PA system started to echo out, the LRAD operator's body slumped against the railing, lifeless. Your blood continued to pour, by your estimation, you would be next. The sword-spider flinched again from the blasting of the PA system. And you realized too that many of the other metallic creatures around you were thusly affected. The sword-spider's eyes were thankfully still trained on you, rather than the HMMVV.
QuoteYou have a Bleed condition.
I'll grant you a free Heroic Action Point when the game starts for successfully managing to turn it on.
Another stun for local scale, along with damage per turn.
Giving a +4 OM bonus to batallion scale, and enemy takes 4 dmg per turn.

Carrie: 19, Bleed 3[/include]
As Carrie is struck by one of the creature's bladed legs, she rolls with the strike, rolling off the roof of the humvee and begins to move away from the vehicle and the LRAD, seeking to draw the creature off. The fact that it responded to her attempt to get its attention told her that there was at least a limited intelligence behind the red eyes that didn't like being injured or otherwise screwed with. Carrie does her best to ignore her injury for the time being, leaning on the adrenaline that was flowing through her system now.
"Stick with me and light it up!", Carrie shouts to the driver as she leads the creature, firing a burst at it once more, "We can't let it remain near the LRAD! It doesn't seem smart enough to make the connection, but if it flails about nearby it could still fuck this whole thing up!"
Rolled 1d20+9 : 2 + 9, total 11
If a hit:
Rolled 4d8+6 : 8, 1, 1, 8 + 6, total 24
Carrie felt a grim sense of satisfaction as she led the creature. She hadn't been able to save anybody in 1st Battalion, but she had at least managed to get the broadcast up and running in time to help her own in 4th, not to mention second and third battalions. She didn't know if the broadcast would be enough to fully turn the tide of battle, given that with the complete destruction of 1st battalion the losses they had suffered already had exceeded her estimates, but Carrie knew that she had at least managed to give the surviving Marines and recruits a fighting chance. Carrie keys up her radio, attempting to raise her captain,
"Sergeant Cook reporting! Objective achieved! I'm leading one of the creatures away from the LRAD, and they don't seem intelligent enough to realize it's the source of the sound harming them! Dispatching a few Humvees or MRAPS with .50's to this location would probably be a good idea though! The last thing we need is for one of them to damage it!"
You fired your weapon, but missed.
"Yes, ma'am!" The soldier said as he too began chasing after you, while giving time to fire at the metallic pink-hued spider.
You heard your captain respond back.
"Alright Sergeant Cook! I'll be sending some of our troops over there! We'll make it, you hear? Just hold out!"The spider attacked the driver at then, hacking at the man's side. You saw the blade dig in deep, and the man clutched at his stomach. Judging from his wounds, he wouldn't last much longer. But to his credit he still continued to chase on after you.
Your own wounds continued to bleed out.
"This is Sgt. Maj. Jacqueline Townsel! Southern 4th Battalion is losing a lot of ground! We're going to try to be bunkering up!"QuoteLocal Status

"Roger that!", Carrie responds over the radio, immediately moving to assist the wounded driver toward the doorway of a nearby building, using the doorway for cover once they were inside. Resting her weapon against the doorframe for stability, she squeezes off another burst at the creature attacking them. (I have no idea what bonus if any this would provide to an attack roll, so I'll leave that modifier in your hands.)

Carrie knew that if she and the wounded driver were to have any chance of survival, it would fall to them to make it happen. There was no way that reinforcements from fourth battalion would arrive in the matter of seconds that it would take for the combat between them and the creature to resolve. Carrie knew that this was the moment of truth. Either she and the humvee's driver would put the creature down in the next few seconds, or the only thing that the reinforcements headed their way would find would be their sliced up carcasses.
You fired your weapon, but missed again. The driver shot a few rounds as well, and he managed to hit. Just as he was about to retreat further, however, the creature had closed the gap to him, and with another one of its legs, it lopped the man's head right off. The creature had taken a lot of damage already.
Your radio buzzed in.
"Sergeant Carrie? It seems to be working! They're thinning out! But... We've lost too many.""Sgt. Maj. Joseph Adcox here! This is my last- ah shit!" The radio cut off. At the same time, there was another update 3rd Battalion.
"3rd Battalion is overrun! We can't handle them!"Next, you heard your battalion commander.
"Lt. Col. Misty J. Posey... northern end of 4th Battalion barracks is lost. Damn it... Radio in to any military frequency. We're not going to make it."Your wounds continued to bleed out.

Carrie barely heard the slew of radio transmissions. With her vision beginning to wash out and tunnel, she finally came to terms with the reality of the situation. This was a last stand. Having at least heard her Battalion CO's instruction to radio in, Carrie tunes her radio to the frequency for US Joint Forces Command HQ and immediately broadcasts.
"Seargant Cook, USMC, transmitting from Paris Island MCRD! Have come under attack by a hostile force of large, unknown creatures! Base overrun!", Carrie reports, then manages to come up with an idea despite her poor condition, "Carpet bombing the place is
highly recommended!"
Carrie then rushes out the door, straight at the creature, aiming to get the muzzle of her weapon as absolutely close to the target as possible in order to increase her chances of scoring a useful hit. Every one of the creatures that can be brought down here and now, she reasons, is one less that someone else will have to deal with when they come to retake the lost position.

Firing your weapon you managed to hit it, and it was enough to take down the creature and you watched in satisfaction as it fell roughly to the ground. Its red eyes flickered a few times, only to eventually dim down and finally go dark. It would have been a celebratory moment, if not for the fact that there were still many more of the monsters throughout the entirety of the island, and the fact you were bleeding out.

It was getting harder to simply keep your eyes open, and looking down, you realized that your uniform was completely drenched with blood - your blood. You felt your knees buckle under your weight. Your eyes were getting heavier and heavier. When you finally collapsed, you heard your radio go off.
"Carpet bombing requested. ETA 8 minutes."And after that, everything went dark.
The rest of the soldiers did their best to continue fighting. But by the time the bombers had arrived however, MCRD PI was a graveyard. Both the corpses of thousands of marines, as well as the metallic creatures littered the compound. Then the bombs were released. Explosions covered the entirety of the complex. Exploding shells destroying buildings and creatures alike with abandon.
After all, there were no survivors.
The Battle of MCRD PI marked the beginning of the end. The fighting and sacrifice of the first 12,647 marines, recruits and regulars, and the discoveries they made were reported to the rest of the country, as well as to the rest of the world, granting them an edge against the metallic creatures.
The four battalions were given awards and honors for their role. Among those who had received a posthumous Medal of Honor:
Cpl. Jack Meyer
Sgt. Ryan Carter
Sgt. Carrie Cook
