"Proud of you Kulaani. You offered help to people that everyone else ignored. Your father and everyone else... That's on the humans. It's their fault, not yours. Blaming you is just convenient for everyone who has grief."

Raani hugs her daughter tightly.

"They shouldn't treat you that way now and never should have from the start, but we can't judge them or the humans- or even the goblins- for any of it. All beings have a purpose and a place in our world, even if it doesn't seem like it, and they deserve the lend of a kind hand when they need it most."

She leans back from the hug with her hands clasped on Kulaani's shoulders. She laughs lightly and breathes deeply.

"I'd forgotten what it's like to breathe so easily."

It took a few moments for the change in location to set in. The elderly Centaur had expected to be dead, but this isn't what being dead is supposed to be- is it? Confusion washed over her face as she caressed her daughters head. She spoke lightly her name.

"Kulaani."

Raani's confusion with the situation intensified, but also granted her waves of relief. Her voice was strong again and here body didn't deny her breath.

"Kulaani," she spoke more strongly, sounding as herself once more. "Please don't cry for me. Please don't apologize. You did nothing wrong."

Raani wearily lifts her head and smiles faintly towards the elf, patiently waiting for her to continue. She hasn't changed position since the previous day. The heartbreak from her daughter running off was still weighing heavy on her mind.

With enough breath for one word, she calls out feebly;

"Kulaani?"

Smiles as a pleading 'thank you'. Her eyes get heavy, and she slowly drifts to sleep. Her chest raises and falls raggedly, but she rests better than she has the past few nights from just knowing that the letter will, eventually, be in her daughter's hands.

Shakes her head, concerned for him being too close. Her hands clasp together then unfold like a book would, then she points to him.

"Yours, now." pauses to catch her breath as best she can before trying to speak more.

"The letter; please- please get it to my daughter."

A small lip quiver gave way to a flood of tears and stifled crying, a smile and a nod.

"I remember." are the only words she was able to speak, but given the history they may also have been the most impactful response.

She points to a ragged leather journal propped up about halfway between herself and the visitor, then motions to it with an open hand. It's her logs. Professional notes on remedies and the sicknesses they cure, mixed with personal entries of every town, village, and outsider she has helped. A separate paper is folded inside the cover, addressed to Kulaani.

Raani held a hand to the floor to stabilize herself and help from feeling dizzy even just sitting.

"Yes" she answered, loudly just enough to be audible. Her milky eyes fell on the human, and confusion washed over her wrinkled face. Words surfaced in her throat, but refused to leave.

Very sadly Raani returned to her bedding and sat down, staring at her mortar and pestle. Flasks and vials of failed cures, herbs and curiosities for possible new ones littered the area around the tools. She began to reach for them, intent on trying again, but withdrew her hand and sighed heavily. Within a few moments, the exhaustion from her ailments led her to fitful sleep.

QuoteAll good, go ahead
Raani clutched her chest, pained by seeing her daughter run off.

One hoof in front of the other, a very careful shifting. It was like learning how to walk all over again.

"Kulaani?" her voice wavered as she shuffled closer to the tent flap.

Raani lifts her lids wearily and tears begin to well. All of the years, she's only wanted to see her daughter and let her know that she loves her, and would have done the same to help the humans. That their decision to betray the tribes help wasn't on Kulaani- it was on them.

As she listens she strains and pulls herself to a wobbly stand, determined to see her daughter.
