Title: [IC] Feast of Thanks Year Two
Post by: Throndir on November 20, 2013, 06:33:42 PM
The eve of the Feast of Thanks that happened just once a year started with the whole entirety of the guild enjoying rows upon rows of food magically prepared for them by the guild leader and his array of chefs. Colorful lights and streamers decorated the interior hall of the guild. Even outside the guild, to the general populace of the city of Ternadan, the people celebrated the day by hanging up banners and lighting tall torches right outside each building.

In every home and building a feast was going on as friends and family took their time to enjoy each others' company. The demand for food on this day was always staggering, already the poor shopkeeper of the store D' n D' licious (http://forum.fantasyworldcreations.com/stores/d'-n-d'-licious!-(food-remixed-into-perfection-)/) was near out of stock. Although there were stories of some insane wizard the year before who had created too many turkeys, getting himself killed in the process, there were still some aspiring wizards who thought they could do the same. Of course, in smaller quantities.

Instead of creating hundreds of turkeys, each mage in turn created a dozen or two. Of course, multiply this for each wizard, and in the end there's well over a thousand turkeys.

Just like before, the turkeys, though docile at first, suddenly became more enraged, meatier, and powerful. It didn't take long for the horde of magically altered turkeys to overcome their own creators. They rampaged across all of the city, and even now, as the Feast of Thanks came into full swing, a horde of turkeys lay in wait.

A single voice erupted loudly during the celebration the Guild of Galas'nor was having.

"Guild! It's the turkeys! ... again..." Right outside their gates were hundreds of them; turkeys. Not just any turkeys mind you, but
enraged, magically altered, and certainly evil turkeys.

[spoiler]You may choose to participate or not. Exp for this event is not party shared. Killing blows grant exp. This event will last until around Thursday, the 28th, 6 PM PST when it ends and this thread will be locked. Kill as many turkeys as you can.

Each turkey will grant 20 exp regardless of level adjustment or any other factors that might change exp.
Active posters will find themselves swarmed with turkeys. Regular posting order/initiative rules apply (not the official one, the one I made up), with the change that turkeys may not always use their freely granted turn to the best of their abilities.

Death shouldn't be common, but it can possibly happen.

If you want to use a different character, or if I didn't include you in the pictures here, just jump in anyways.

Close spoiler to end music.

Vladimir jumps up at the idea, with a slight ulterior motive. Good, a fresh blood supply. I need to stock up on more vials...this is one of the few ways I can get myself to do it. With that he stocked up on as many vials as he could, and ran out of his room

He soon runs out the door, as he'd heard rumors of this event, and its fun. As he got closer to meeting the turkeys, he shouted, "TARGET PRACTICE!"

[spoiler]Add 15 empty vials to Vladimir's inventory, yes I plan to fill them haha.

Also, if attacks are available, to the nearest turkey:
[blockquote]Attack:  1d20+4 : 14 + 4, total 18[/blockquote]
[blockquote]Damage if hit:  1d6+2 : 5 + 2, total 7[/blockquote]

Upon a kill, if no other enemies are attacking, Vlad spends time filling a vial from a turkey (Morbid, but needed lol).[/spoiler]

Ryine looks at the gobbling monstrosity in front of him and has flashbacks. Only two things have ever bested this proud warrior. One being Oglen, the fearsome ogre that the guild had felled some time before, the other, a mob of gobbling, stupid turkey. This year will be different he thought, this year the turkey menace will not get the better of him. This year, he will not be a burden on the guild's medical staff. This year everything will be different. He wants to play it smart. He wants to play it cool. Most of all he doesn't want to be injured.

That was the plan at least, but now he has been overcome with rage. With regret. With a giant influx of adrenaline. The turkey do not deserve to live, nor do they deserve to be in the guild hall.

The armored man lets out a shout.

"THIS YEAR WILL BE DIFFERENT. YOU FEATHERED BASTARDS ARE GOING TO DIE HERE AND NOW. I WILL END ALL OF YOU WITH MY BLADE! THERE WILL BE NO ADDITIONAL COST FOR OUR ALREADY OVERWORKED MEDICAL STAFF. WE WILL HAVE ENOUGH TURKEY TO FEED ALL OF THE ORPHANS IN TOWN AFTER I AM DONE WITH YOU. THIS. IS. THE. END. YOUR. MARCH. STOPS. HERE. RIGHT. ON. OUR. DOORSTEP."

Ryine charges forward aiming to lop off the head of the nearest turkey.

Aria had heard quite a few stories about the guild's past turkey invasion. She hadn't directly spoken to anyone about it, but she sometimes eaves dropped while wandering the halls, or while exploring town. She held her bow, standing beside the others with her usual blank expression. . .Would they be eating all of these? Her head tilted slightly, and she blinked. Was it even safe to eat magically altered turkeys? She shrugged the thought aside.

Ryine's voice suddenly broke through the deafening gobbles, as did Vladimir's. The two had then begun the slaughter with little hesitation. Aria decided to follow suit - she lifted her bow, drawing back an arrow as she aimed for the gobbling creature straight ahead of her.

Kryas couldn't stop laughing when he looked out on the battlefield. If that laughter was caused by fear or amusement at their predicament he wasn't entirely certain. There were turkeys as far as the I could see a legion of evil fowl knocking at their door. Well at least today would prove to be interesting for the bard.

"Let's have some fun today!" Kryas grinned readying his bow and lyre.
"Goddess may my attacks sing with power unbridled. Let's party!"

Kryas then begins to sing a song meant to both strengthen the minds and bodies of himself and those around him while shooting an arrow at the closest fowel

[spoiler]kryas forgoes a move action and uses bardic music for inspired courage of both himself and those allies who can hear him. While at the same he notches an arrow and fires meaning to end the nearest fowl.

It had taken awhile: only after much beating of the undead, as well as tireless practice of the skills used from that time followed by several long moments of quiet reflection, did Lyolf finally begin to feel his inner chi, the base energy of the world, run more freely within him.

His mastery over such energy had constantly been forced to improve ever since he was ousted from the academy, which in turn led him to rely more and more on abilities apart from the arcane. Thus, it never surprised the elf whenever he managed to make his personal chi take form, even without extensive formal training. But what did surprise the aspiring martial adept were the times when he received tremendous help from the unlikeliest source-his own familiar.

Right now, that odd bird was perched lazily atop his right shoulder with both eyes closed, revealing no hint of that sage-like wisdom it had shown during his past training exercises. Needless to say, with his rigorous training schedule coupled with the raven's occasional advice, Lyolf felt just a little bit more confidant in his skills as a martial adept-not so much as to warrant a desire to gloat but enough that he now chose to let it take a more aggressive role in battle.

Taking a deep breath, Lyolf closed his eyes, steadied his stance, and gradually let his inner chi flow out into his surroundings. At this subtle action, the raven let open one eye. "Right foot further to the left," it said simply before giving the raven equivalent of a yawn and falling back into a light slumber. Lyolf immediately made the correction and felt the chi flow out more smoothly than before. Uli murmured, as if in approval.

The young mage-turned-martial-adept only sighed at that reaction, but remained otherwise focused on maintaining his stance. He had often wondered what hidden secret the raven held that enabled it to give such useful advice both in his training as a martial adept and even in his studies as a mage. But for all his queries, the raven remained mute and Lyolf chose not to push the matter further. Everyone held secrets that only they alone must know, and Lyolf figured this was one of them.

His concentration deepened then and, as a direct result, his chi became a veritable torrent that flooded into his surroundings.

Although he was still curious about the raven, the elf had no more time to ponder such things as the chi that had already flowed out was sufficient to his purposes and anymore would only prove wasteful on his part, especially to a novice that lacked any chi to spare.

The energy flow immediately ceased and Lyolf opened his eyes to a swirling barrier of convulsing shadows that emanated from deep within him.

Everyone's chi was different, after all. For some, the raw manifestation of their chi would result in a small, luminescent light that followed them around. Most often though, it would be a flame that would empower their attacks and lay waste to their foes. But for the struggling young elf who had yet to complete his training, chi that came out unformed would only result in a mass of slithering black shadows.

The elf began to move and only then realized what he was holding-a long series of interlocking chains with blades at both ends. Shadows from his chi had drawn towards and surrounded the weapon, but that was not what had surprised the elf.

Seriously... Lyolf shook his head as he thought, this thing has GOT to stop suddenly appearing in my hands like that.

"You had better plan on holding on tight, Uli," the elf casually remarked, as the shadows danced around him and the yearly "festivities" began once more.

"I don't plan on falling behind."

[spoiler]
Lyolf activates Child of Shadow, runs 10 ft short of the nearest turkey (but moving at least 10 ft) while drawing his spiked chain, and lets his weapon get to work.

Proud of his first blow, Ryine twirls his sword and prepares to strike once more. He does notice one thing that is slightly concerning though. Many of his allies have not yet left their feast, they are making merry while a few are fighting. He may be knee deep in turkey blood by the time this is over if there isn't some help arriving soon.

"Comrades, let us drive the turkey menace back to where it came, then we can eat drink and make merry in peace!"

Ryine brings his blade down hard on the turkey closest to him. He is starting to calm down slightly, but  he is still fueled by the desire for revenge after the embarrassment of the year before.

[spoiler] Ryine stabs a turkey. (I don't care which one, just one that I don't have to move to hit.)

Vladimir does a battle roar in agreement with Ryine's calls, satisfied as well with his own slain turkey. "The first of many!" He says, almost gleefully. As much as he hated to admit it, the sight of blood still excited him. It did not make him lose himself, but certainly brought a certain joy. He ever knew he loved battle. Maybe it's just the turkey...

Amused and aware, Vladimir spins, sending the blade of his rapier slicing through the turkey to his left.

After the first turkey fell, another approached from the side. "Master..." Uli warned, still atop the elf's shoulder. "I know," Lyolf replied, an eager glint in his eye, as he waited for the bird's approach. Just a little closer, the elf thought almost impatiently. "By the way Uli, how do you like your turkey?" Lyolf then asked his familiar.

The raven looked at its master oddly at the sudden question, before tilting its beak in an expression the mage had come to recognize as a smile. "Extra crispy."

And it was time. Using all his force, Lyolf swung the shadow enhanced chain towards the bird with a savage grin on his face.

And it exploded.

Both mage and his familiar spent a moment in silence, watching the turkey blow up from the fierce attack. A few moments later and turkey bits slowly rained down amongst the two.

"I am NOT eating that," Uli indignantly spoke. "Hey, you were the one who wanted extra crispy," the elf countered. The raven glared back a long moment, before revealing a mischievous smile.

"Also, that wasn't the one I tried to warn you about."

Lyolf immediately turned around, but it was too late-a turkey had managed to close the distance while he was busy enjoying the scenery. And though the attack left but a scratch, it put the elf on guard as he jumped to the side. He did not want to be taken down by turkeys. He imagined there would be more laughing than crying if "death by turkey" appeared on his tombstone, plus he'd be made the laughing stock of the entire guild should such a thing happen. So he decided to take the encounter more seriously, even if his enemies were naught but lunch on legs.

A hand then went to a familiar pouch on his side, while his other hand wove elegant lines through the air.

"Magis R?s"

[spoiler]
Lyolf takes a 5-ft-step West and casts Mage Armor on both himself and the familiar.

The fighting continues! There were 7 dead turkeys, and as they fell, more took their places. They kept coming and coming, as these almost rabid turkeys came swarming at those who were participating.

In the distance you see more turkeys. And more and more and more.

There were four turkeys who did something strange however. Instead of charging like the others, oen of them started yelling really loudly.

"Gobble gobble, gob gobble gob gob!"

Translation: Foolish humans, tonight we will dine on you!

Then as one, they started to do something strange; chant.

Vladimir was astonished by what seemed to be the lead turkey. These things can use magic!? What in the nine hells...!?

With that, he knew he needed to focus and get the deed done quickly. He took a thrusting stance, focused on the turkey before him, then quickly lowered his blade as jabbed forward. Then he did something he had not expected to do; he held his kukri defensively.

Turkeys came flying from all directions and despite the chain striking the persistent beasts again and again, there was no end in sight. Feathers were flying all around now, as the elf continued his deadly dance. However, the turkeys fought back, and amazingly enough, one even managed to get past Lyolf's arcane enhanced defenses, then navigated through the mass of shadows that swirled around him, and even anticipated the elf's dodge, responding with a premeditated counter.

Were these really just turkeys he was fighting? the elf had to wonder. And just as he made that thought, a wave of raw arcane power washed through him. The sheer power was staggering, more powerful than anything the former arcane student had ever encountered during his time studying at an academy of the arcane. It was the stuff of legends; a spell had just been cast that was on the same level as one performed by a master archmagus.

The elven mage felt that the source of all power was nearby, however, and he turned to look. But the moment he did so, he was rendered speechless.

"Turkey... magic?" he asked no one in particular.

His familiar seemed at a loss for words too and remained quiet while eyeing the arcane turkeys with apparent interest.

It was maddening, yet it was true, and Lyolf was almost at a loss as to where to begin. Almost. He spent a moment trying to decipher the spell being cast before heading towards the magically-inclined poultry, intending to put a stop to whatever ritual those birdbrains planned to perform.

[spoiler]
Lyolf makes a spellcraft check to attempt to identify the spell while designating the far west turkey as his dodge target, then he takes a 5-ft-step in the direction towards the caster turkeys before finally swinging at the turkey nearest to him.

Looking at the turkey that are casting what appears to be a spell of some sort, Ryine instantly knows that he is out of his element. He decides to leave the spell related stuff to those who are more capable of it and goes back to doing what he does. This time with his best impression of Branwen from the previous year's event.

Kryas fired another arrow that sprang from his hands and towards the nearest fowl. All he could think about was what they could do with all this meat once they had butchered and purified the corpses. Then he felt it a surge of magic coming from somewhere on the battlefront. On the horizon a circle of birds were casting some kind of spell.

"I should have given these guys more credit." He thought to himself as he tried to see if the movements of the birds would spark anything in his memory.

A light blush washed over Aria's cheeks, both her arrows completely missing their target. She wouldn't be missing again, though. Taking her falchion, she charged at the turkey in front of her- It wouldn't be so lucky this time! As she did so, she also came to notice some type of magic forming. It seemed these creatures were quite a bit smarter than first expected.

Aria missed, and somehow the turkey grew BIGGER! It was probably a delayed enlargement spell.

The turkeys wearing the wizard hats continued their incessant casting.

"Goobble gob gobble gob!" Whatever it was that the four turkeys were casting, it took long for them to prepare. Though the casters in the group tried their best to identify it, all they knew that it was a spell that would take more than a few seconds to cast. When it was first started, there were 5 glowing balls of light. As the guild members slaughtered the turkeys around them, one of the glowing balls of light disappeared.

First her bow, now her sword? Her falchion swished passed the turkey's head, the elf spinning around and coming to face it again. Her cheeks were completely pink at this point, her embarrassment apparent, despite the lack of expression. As the fighting continued, the turkeys continued their casting. Suddenly another one of the glowing balls of light disappeared. There only 3 glowing lights left. The magic cicrle on the ground itself looked even more complete than before.

Kryas realized that whatever the spell was, it was taking long to cast. That, or perhaps the turkeys needed to combine their casting to get a more pronounced effect.

Meanwhile, Aria missed again! Though the turkey was large, it miraculously was able to flap its wings, fly a short bit, and dodge the weapon.

As Lyolf advanced, he noticed that the turkey army grew too dense further on and that it would prove extremely hazardous to pass. With his current status, he sincerely doubted he could get away without a scratch. He needed more time to prepare, but with the turkeys swarming over him and his guild-mates, there was little opportunity for that.

And to make matters worse, the elf thought as another light winked out from the turkey's ritual, there was little time left.

However, with the guild's "formation" already thrown into disarray, any action he took against the spell-casting turkeys now would create an opening wide enough to overwhelm the entire northern flank. And even if he did try to leave, doing so would prove both difficult and dangerous in the current situation. So the elf grit his teeth and moved back, swinging his chain at the turkeys threatening to crush the guild's precarious defense.

[spoiler]
Lyolf takes a 5-foot-step directly west and attacks the turkey 10 feet north of that position. Uli then takes a 5-foot-step north and attacks the turkey on that square.

Vladimir realized he was getting overwhelmed quickly, and knew he needed recovery time. As a precaution he had made sure to "satiate" himself before the turkeys had come too close. Now would be a good time to regenerate/ He nervously thought to himself. Concentrating for a quick second, Vladimir reached within himself for the energy he stored, spreading it throughout his body. His wounds slowly began to heal. That should do...now then. He dropped low into a guard, taking defense as a priority. This didn't keep him from attempting to slaughter the one that had somehow gotten behind him, however.

Chadra stepped out of the hall with her normal, slightly vacant expression. She didn't so much look at the Turkeys as through them. Casually, she unsheathed her sword and stepped forward to the two nearest 'big chickens' and swung her blade passively, attempting to cut two down at once.

"Wow~." Aria whispered. Rather than be upset at her third miss, she was more amazed that something so large and chubby had been able to take flight like that. She stared at the creature in awe for a moment. But, as the turkeys began closing in on her and her guild mates, the elf was reminded of her current predicament. She had managed to get fairly wounded - and if she didn't heal, or at least finally kill the overgrown turkey, she'd be in trouble. Are swung at the creature once again,

"This again?"

A kukri flew in from an unexpected angle, aimed at one of the turkey's necks. A girl in black had suddenly emerged from the shadows, striking the unaware fowl with blade in hand.

She didn't particularly care about turkeys, or feasts, or even thanks. But the noise. All of the gobbling and the shouting. She could barely hear herself think over the veritable cacophony that had engulfed the city.

It had quickly become clear that she wasn't going to be able to get back to her reading until these turkeys were slaughtered like the animals they are. It chafed her to be forced into such an asinine practice as killing rogue birds, but if everyone else was going to make such a big deal over it, she would prefer it be over as quickly as possible. She had better things to do.

Vladimir continued to fight defensively, not wanting to take any unnecessary hit. After all, the turkeys were weak, and easy enough to dispatch. If they couldn't hurt him, he'd win it in the long run. Patience is all it takes...well, except for the magic turkeys, they're a problem. But I can't do anything about those.

With that "comforting" thought, Vladimir took another quick slash at the nearest turkey, keeping up his full guard.

Chain and claw were both put to work now, as even the raven had joined in unbidden into the thick of the melee-thus starting the battle of the birds. And as much as he may have wanted to see how that would turn out, Lyolf prioritized winning the battle over watching such spectacles.

"Uli!" the elf hurriedly yelled, "back into the pack!"

Lyolf then smiled mischievously, adding, "You know what to do."

The response was immediate, as if the raven had been waiting for those very words. Uli quickly flew out of the turkey's reach, muttered "I had grown tired of waiting," before diving into Lyolf's traveling pack and getting to work.

The elf laughed, but could only smile bitterly at the irony of the situation. He had gone about this the wrong way. After all, he was incomplete both as a warrior and as a mage, yet here he was casting spell and wielding chain despite all that. In a sense, he was like the strange weapon that he wielded-filled with potential, but lacking an important something required to complete it.

Fortunately, Lyolf's power lay neither in his strength of arm nor his knowledge of the arcane, but in his wit. He had gone through desperate situations before and had emerged victorious in the end, relying on neither the use of spell nor blade. The reason the elf had won was simply because he could think-building the most efficient plan to adapt to the situation. So why should that change now?

The aura of shadows dropped and Lyolf became just another elf, but that was fine. This was who he was.

The elf then jumped lightly into the thickest crowd of turkeys, all the while yelling at the top of his lungs:

[spoiler]"Fatheaded geese!"
"Lumpy poultry!"
"Birdbrained... birds!"

...among many other insults. Lyolf even swung his chain wildly at one of the unfortunate birds. [/spoiler]

But while the elf may have seemed foolish, a composed aura surrounded him. For behind his mischievous exterior, he watched his opponents closely, calmly reviewing their actions and adapting his plan to any change in the situation as it occurred.

[spoiler]
Uli begins by taking a five-foot-step into Lyolf's traveling pack and starts preparing some Bombs of Doom. Immediately afterwards, Lyolf deactivates Child of Shadow, takes a 5-foot-step southeast before smashing his chain onto the turkey east of him, then proceeds to taunt every turkey in sight.

The battling continues fiercly. Some who had not joined before decided to rush in and get in on the action. Aria, the only one who really took action against the spellcasting turkeys finally managed to shoot one down. However, the act cost her a few hits as some turkeys took the opportunity to land their sharp beaks on her.

As one of the spellcasting turkeys who wore the wizard hats died, one of the lights that you expected to extinguish appeared again. You also noticed that the magic circle they were casting seemed to flicker and diminish when the turkey was killed.

For a moment, you felt as if you've managed to thwart their plans.. However as the dying turkey was laying on cold floors of the guild courtyard, it pulled its hat off its head and offered it to a turkey nearby.

"G-gobble gobble..."

The other turkey responded as it picked up the hat from the dying turkey.

"... gobble." It said as it placed the hat on its own head. The dying turkey smiled contently as the new turkey began where his predeccsor left of. The lights burst into life once more and the casting began anew.

But it still cost the turkeys dearly as instead of a light disappearing, another light, previously extinguished, emerged. Of the previous five lights; now there were two.

Angered at their loss, the turkeys doubled their efforts.

Vladimir was getting annoyed. And tired. Why isn't there more help? And why the hell do they HURT so much! The beaks were more trouble than he expected. Then again, he's not supposed to be the focus of their attacks. Where was a proper fighter when you needed one?

Regardless, he had no choice, however, he did retreat slightly during his next attack. I'm just tired of being surrounded.

Jornathel had just finished washing up when the commotion outside got his attentions. The word had passed quickly the turkeys were back once again. This had become a yearly epidemic of wide spread proportions. He quickly gathered his things, and rushed down into the streets to find his guild companions. The city continues to be assaulted by the most bizarre and unusual catastrophes. Perhaps there is some unspoken joke among the pantheons that we mortals have yet to receive.

The moon elf announced his presence with a loud and cheerful cry. ?Brother and sisters do not waiver, it is time we stem the tide of these baleful creatures and cast them back into their natural order!?

One hand flashed in rapid succession, preparing spell after spell as quickly as his gifted powers would allow while the other drew his long sword.

Title: Re: [IC] Feast of Thanks Year Two
Post by: Lance on November 26, 2013, 11:31:05 PM
His attack did not connect, but that did not matter. What was one turkey in a sea of thousands, after all? It's not like he expected such a half-hearted attack to hit in the first place. It didn't need to. All that attack had meant to accomplish was to get the turkey's attention-and for that purpose, it succeeded.

The elf had half a mind to continue "mindlessly" attacking and insulting his opponents, hoping to gather them all in one tight spot before launching the real attack. However, an opening was abruptly created shortly behind the elf, as another spellcaster of Galas'nor cast consecutive blasts of his most hated spell-magic missile. But Lyolf, ever the opportunist, did not let such a chance pass; he immediately took the prepared flask, offered from the beak of a certain raven, then dropped it at the highest concentration of turkeys currently in range-at his own feet.

Then, not caring whether the flask would spread deadly fires, enough to cook a hearty thanksgiving dinner, or if it would just splatter nearby birds with harmless oil, Lyolf jumped back, harnessing arcane energies within him as he did so.

However, such was the rate at which he gathered arcane energy that when he landed, he was already connected with the weave.

The elf moved quickly, giving his off-hand the sole task of carrying his chain, as he began tracing intricate lines through the air with his main. And in no time at all, a familiar azure glow soon encompassed his entire right hand along with traces of shadowy tendrils, perhaps as a side effect of his earlier burst of chi.

Lyolf grinned. The spell was surprisingly forthcoming this time around, achieving manifestation with little focus and little time. Usually, the layering of multiple magics onto a single body is a strenuous task, one that separates a proper magus from a mere dabbler. It had always been among Lyolf's many banes though, on par with the dreaded Magic Missile spell.

But things were different today.

His mind focused and his will sharpened, Lyolf continued casting the spell, and soon enough even the lines glowed. The azure glow encompassing the elf's hand had become a pure, blinding light by then, masked only by trails of deep shadow. For with every passing second the elf spent concentrating, the light only grew brighter and the shadows darker.

Moments passed and at the spell's peak, an incredibly brief moment of time when both the extremities of light and dark reach their full potential, Lyolf drew his main hand skyward and uttered a single command word loaded with all the arcane power he could spare.

"Schirm"

Vladimir really wished he didn't have to defend, his normal strategy usually involved using both weapon in a fierce whirling dance. However, lately, all he's been is the shield, taking hits while returning them slightly. Once these damn things thin out, I'll go wild. He promised himself.

In the mean time, all he could do was defend, as there were just too many of them. "Mages, archers, I'll leave them to you! Thin them out so we can push them back!"

He stabs out at the nearest turkey, hoping it strikes true to help the effort.

However, noticing that the dropped flask did not explode, Lyolf sighed and braced himself as the turkeys began their counter-attack. But when all was said and done, the elf grinned mischievously and stepped back once more.

"Plan C, then," he said, as he took out flint and steel from his pack.

His grin grew yet more fiendish as he joyfully went to work, striking flint against steel. and quickly igniting the oil that had been spilt.

Aria watched as, once again, the wizard hat was passed from one bird to another. Sure, killing them off slowed them down a bit - But the spell would only continue as another took its place. Aria readied her bow, this time, aiming specifically for one of their hats. Hopefully, she'd be able to send it flying.

The turkeys were relentless as ever and this new group had brought a new set of tricks to the table. It appeared that all of our companions were wading into these feathered monsters attempting to hold the line. Well that would just not do. The ones in the hats appeared to be the key element in some profound turkey ritual. So be it their heads would roll. Jorn waited feeling the rhythm and pace of the Arcane flow. His masters had taught him that with focus any spell can be molded, crafted, twisted, and bent to the casters desires.

The moon elf?s hand facing forward began to swing quickly in various arcane symbols as his body surged with power. The beat of his blood clawed to escape, a primal battle of celestial fire and ancient birth right of dragon?s blood gifted to all sorcerers.

Targets:    Up to five creatures, no two of which can be more than 15 ft. apart
Duration:    Instantaneous
Saving Throw:    None
Spell Resistance:    Yes

A missile of magical energy darts forth from your fingertip and strikes its target, dealing 1d4+1 points of force damage.

The missile strikes unerringly, even if the target is in melee combat or has less than total cover or total concealment. Specific parts of a creature can?t be singled out. Inanimate objects are not damaged by the spell.

For every two caster levels beyond 1st, you gain an additional missile?two at 3rd level, three at 5th, four at 7th, and the maximum of five missiles at 9th level or higher. If you shoot multiple missiles, you can have them strike a single creature or several creatures. A single missile can strike only one creature. You must designate targets before you check for spell resistance or roll damage. [/spoiler]

Kryas as a last ditch effort casts ghost sound of a female turkey looking for a mate in the distance in hopes that he might be able to save himself from death and turn the tide of battle.

Jornathel took action against the spellcasting turkeys, however as the magic missiles sped towards their targets, only two of the spellcasting turkeys were hit. The other ones were too far for the magic missiles to get a lock.

The disturbance in their casting increased the number of lights back to three. But once again more turkeys took their place.

As he began casting the spell, a couple of nearby turkeys seized the opportunity and struck at the half-elf while he was busy preparing the spell. Of the two attacks, however, only one managed to land a clean hit-the other just barely stopping itself from being impaled on the half-elf's weapon as it charged. But Kryas stood fast and the spell was completed without incident.

"Gobble Gobble~" a fowl voice then echoed a short distance away.

And immediately, one of the turkeys attacking Kryas stiffened up, turning around as it sought the source. However, the other turkey only glared at the half-elf more intensely than before, while quivering in unbridled rage.

It was a female.

Ryine is still surrounded by a number of turkey that he considers to be far too large. He is starting to get desperate. The warrior pours all of his focus into the next string of attacks hoping to clear a bit of the field in front of him. Raising his sword, Ryine attempts to go for a nice arcing slice to carve a path through a good number of birds.

[spoiler] Using a missed turn and 2 Karma to attack 4 times. Attacking the turkey in this order: North, Northeast, East, Southeast. To hopefully clear most of the ones that are providing a flanking bonus to their allies.

QuoteRyine is now level 3, 3 fighter/ 1 barb gestalt.

As the turkey surround him and bring him to his knees, Ryine feels something well up inside of him. Not entirely sure what it is, he feels himself being slowly overtaken by this something. Suddenly during a brief moment of silence on the battlefield, Ryine starts screaming. He isn't screaming anything in particular in fact it is quite unintelligible. He looks around the room, still screaming. He is not quite sure what is going on but an overwhelming desire to destroy all of the turkey that stand before him is the only thought that he has. As he continues screaming he feels as if some of his strength has returned. Enough to stand... no enough to lash out at the turkey in front of him and perhaps change the tides of the battle. He stops thinking and starts acting. The man swings his sword in a blind fury dispatching as many turkey as he can before stepping towards his half-orc ally.

[spoiler] Ryine enters rage for the next 8 rounds. +4 STR +4 CON -2 AC (18 AC total ATM)  He also spends a point of Karma to attack twice. After the two attacks, he takes a 5 foot step to the north west.

Ryine sees a chance at making it to safety and he takes it while beating back a couple of turkey. Still enraged, nothing quite intelligible comes out of his mouth but the grunts and screams sound quite angry and directed towards the turkey. He slashes at two turkey while moving closer to his allies the blade whipping fiercely through the air.

[spoiler] Using another point of karma to attempt to take out 2 turkey. Then taking a 5 foot step west to hopefully prevent flanking. I'll resolve the karma myself this time.

Vladimir is not happy with this predicament. Turkeys are piled on top of each other, that part is good. The problem is that they keep coming, and somehow get through his defenses better than actual swords! When will this siege get turned around!? I know we can do it!

Trying not to let it get to him, Vlad thrusts once more from his defensive stance, not able to move for multiple reasons.

The guild's offensive power slowed as the toil of fighting pushed the individuals to their limits. They tried valiantly to stop the turkey's casting, yet everytime they took one down, another turkey would take its place completing and finishing their predecessors task. A few of the guild members watched in defeat as the last glowing ball of light winked out of existence. By this point, the magic circle was fully formed. Its lights were vibrant red and gold - a testament to the season's colors; a testament to the turkey's accomplishment.

The spellcasting of the turkeys ceased. Silence pervaded the area. The turkeys, who had once previously been engaged with the guild of Galas'nor, stopped for a moment as they all looked towards the circle. A few opportunist guild members took that chance to kill a few more turkeys, yet the turkeys didn't retaliate; they were simply too ecstatic.

The guild on the other hand, not quite so. They watched in horror as a large claw appeared from the circle, immediately crushing one of the turkeys wearing the wizard hats who had just completed the spell. There was a beastly roar; it's deep gurgling sound terrifying and awesome to behold.

"GOB GOBBLE!"

Aria Falavir

While the turkeys were distracted, Aria put a hand to her chest, taking that moment to heal herself. ?Uh oh~...? The elf watched as the circle was completed ? And a turkey, even larger than the beast she had fought moments ago, emerged from it. She wasn't entirely surprised by its appearance. If anything, she was annoyed that her efforts to stop the spells completion had failed.

She had been visiting her parents back on the farm to have a little family Thanksgiving, and the moment she came back to the guild, was greeted by a hoard of magic turkeys. Mimic squawked at them, ruffling his dark feathers. ?Not these things again.? He moaned. Noticing some of her guild mates weren't in the best of shape, she immediately  went to work mending their wounds. ?We got this you guys!? She cheered them on as she approached someone close  - Ryine.

Kin Sheel

Kin watched in a mixture of horror and awe as the giant turkey emerged from the magic circle. He nearly dropped the sword he'd just brandished. "What in the nine hells...I'd say we've solved world hunger, but we may be biting off more than we can chew with this fight."

He tightly gripped the hilt of his greatsword, then shouted, "DON'T WAVER, WE MUST PROTECT OUR HOME! GALAS'NOR!"

The halfling charged forward, flanking a turkey and taking an swift swipe at its neck.

Vladimir Ludwik

The methuselan's shoulders visibly slumped. He knew magic had progressed much in the years he had lived; his body was a testament to that. But this was beyond anyone's possible expectations. We had enough trouble with the small ones...what are we going to do about THAT. Just as he was about to lose all morale, Kin's cry rallied him. That's right, this is the only home I know, I can't let it slip away, it would mean my death! Vlad cheered after Kin, "FOR OUR HOME!"

At this point, he knew defense was not winning this battle. He needed to take a gamble, so he did. He began the dance of blades he knew so well, the style he had adopted from countless elven and swordplay texts. He wove their methods into his own style, just as his own blades now wove through the air. He began a sort of war chant, though it came out like a soft, trance-like song. It sharpened his focus well, though it was not yet perfected. However, perfection wasn't the point, considering the situation, it was now or never. With skill, and a little luck, Vladimir's blades flowed like water, striking out right where the turkeys least expected.

Jornathel Mithraiian

Jorn could feel his magical powers beginning to wane. It would not be long before his sorcery powers would be tapped. But this was a force of enormous size and a behemoth turkey had entered the field. How that creature had come into existence was uncertain to the young sorcerer but he was certain it was not here for dinner. Delving one last time into his reserves he conjured a final missile before arming himself with blade and celestial fire.

The young elf's hand weaves a final incantation resembling the earlier symbols. Once the symbols are drawn, the blue energy fades, his form strengthens as the sword takes the lead.

Haru

The young monk was very conflicted over all the different events that had spiraled out of control over the past several years. He felt that closing that chapter of his life with the Silver Arms was necessary he had learned valuable lessons about life. He better understood the path laid before him but there was still so much to learn. He had learned of another guild during his travels, and sought them out for a new experience, new records to return home. Haru admired the symbol of the organization newly embroidered onto the freshly tailored headband. It was simple but remarkable at the same time. Without realizing it he stumbled into the midst of what could only be described as a turkey massacre. Then he took note of fellow guilders fighting in concert and looking worse for wear. Then the creature of immense size before him was seen. How had he missed such a thing of horror. The power of the kategida began to pulse, and without hesitation Haru knew his course. He shouted atop his lungs, "Brother guilders my name is Haru, I have come to help. I hope that we all shall become good friends!!!"

The large staff danced into the light footed elf's hands with ease. He wielded the staff with a familiarity that was hard to match as if it was an extension of his body. He struck the center of the staff across his knee willing the sections to separate into two equal halves,  and with another flick of his wrists the split again. The twin set of nunchaku spun within a flaring dance each section held together by a pulsing line of lightening. He danced into the fray seeking any and all turkeys who dared to stick out their necks.

Annia Siadon & Golas Rorn

"I see them! Look at that MEAT. Bahahaha!" A familiar voice said triumphantly. "If only you didn't take so long to get dressed missy!"

"It's not a dress. It's armor, a knight should always get into their armor before a fight." A voice retorted back.

"Take it from me miss, all's you ever need is a weapon and muscles!" Golas said as he jumps down into the fray.

"You need more than that. Wit, speed, reflexes-"

"Just come help me already!"

There was a loud audible sigh, but soon enough the two fighters stood side by side as they helped clear the northern end of the courtyard.

DM
The colossal turkey cocked his head to the side as it slowly made its way forward, it's feet thumping heavily on the ground, and the many smaller turkeys getting out of its way. It tmoved slowly, enjoying and biding its time, reveling in the power it had.

Chadra froze, but her fear quickly dissipated. She had faced threats like this before. She just needed... needed some rest. Then she heard it. Over the battle, over even the roar of the turkey, she picked up that sound of a dress ruffling. She looked over and saw that Dress-girl was now engaged, and at stake, in this battle. She felt that fear settle back in, and drive her forward. The beast had to be stopped... now. She tightened her grip on her sword, attempting to defeat the turkey in front of her with a single slash.

Post by: Lance on December 03, 2013, 09:58:22 PM
The elf sighed. As if there weren't already enough things to worry about, a colossal turkey just had to come crawling from some demented plane of existence-one likely filled to the brim with such ridiculous beasts. However, unlike the elf, the smaller turkeys seemed to be enlivened by the larger one's emergence, as if basking in their achievement-a moment of glorious triumph over Galas'nor.

Honestly, Lyolf thought while grinding his teeth. these turkeys were becoming quite annoying.

Once again eyeing the large beast that had emerged, Lyolf paused for a brief moment, a difficult and uncharacteristic expression readily apparent on his face. And though it was unlike him, the elf grit his teeth in indecision. But such uncertainty only lasted a moment and in the next, the elf stood ready, his inner demons put to rest. He then gave a slight nod towards his familiar and, as if through some unspoken agreement, Uli immediately flew back, only to land softly on the elf's outstretched arm.

But as soon as the raven and its master connected, their mental link was instantly reinforced, allowing Lyolf to draw upon an additional reserve of power within his enigmatic familiar-and he did. Without hesitation.

The elf then closed his eyes, allowing him to better visualize the surge of energy that was now pouring into him from the raven. The exchange was fast, almost unnaturally so. The process of taking energy from another was a normally tedious task after all, even if the subject was willing and aiding in the exchange. Thus, the average magus should spend minutes, hours, or even days to draw out a substantial amount of power from another form of life.

But exceptions did exist.

For one, common belief held among magi stated that the bonds formed between two close individuals enhance the process of energy exchange. It is said that the closer those individuals become, the faster and more efficient the process. However, even that wouldn't prove a suitable enough explanation for what was going on.

For when the elf opened his eyes, his body was overflowing in chi energy, to the point where shadows were bursting forth naturally from his inner self. His eyes were glowing a brilliant azure, his aura filled with shadows darker and more substantial than before, and his guild emblem, which usually remained invisible on his right hand, was now visibly glowing in the same fashion as his eyes.

[spoiler=Open/Close for music]

[/spoiler]

He had to increase his precision, however, as Uli's power was vast. For if his chi reserves were to be compared to a great lake, then Uli would be an ocean. The sheer volume of power within the raven was staggering, but Lyolf kept drawing in more of his familiar's chi even as he connected himself with the arcane.

However, it seemed like the raven had connected with the weave first (to Lyolf's annoyance) and now an equally great source of arcane power began flowing through his veins, mixing in with the arcane energy he had collected himself. However, no normal elf's body was ever meant to wield such a level of power and to say the elf felt a headache would be a gross understatement.

Rather, it felt like his mind was splitting in two. His nerves were on fire, his skin felt as if it was burning off, and his flesh as if it was slowly being pulled apart. But Lyolf put all such concerns aside, drawing further energy within himself even as his life slowly faded from within. After all, the guild would need all the power it could get against such a preposterous monstrosity.

And with that thought in mind, Lyolf burst into motion, charging towards the over-sized turkey with all his accumulated might. He focused his mind on both chi and the arcane simultaneously as he ran, and though it strained against his very being, he struck with all the power he could bring to bear, no matter the consequence.

[spoiler=Actions]
First, Uli moves to Lyolf's tile. Then Lyolf activates Child of Shadow before charging (not a charge attack) towards Dave with Clinging Shadow Strike. He then uses one missed turn, activates Burning Blade and launches a full-round attack against Dave by using a karma point to increase his number of attacks by one. Then, using his second missed turn, he activates Burning Blade again, launching the same kind of attack as before, and consuming another karma point.

Branwen merely stared silently as her compatriots charged in. She couldn't help but feel as though she'd killed this particular turkey once before.

Well, it didn't matter. She had killed it once, and she could kill it again.

Striding forward, emerging from her location for the first time, she walked unfettered by the smaller turkeys, not into the giant turkey's reach, but instead into the nearby shadows. There, she faded, dissolving into the dim light.

Kin Sheel

Gods, that was nearly as embarrassing as the LAST time we fought the gobbles. However, the one he was attacking was taken down, which left Kin feeling unsatisfied. Holding back his usual urge to charge the big turkey, he looked over among his guildmates, and saw that a few were still pinned down, some of them faces he knew well. That's...Ryine and Sophie!? I gotta help them out!

With that, Kin rushes past the others, who were steadying themselves before the big guy reached them. "Sophie! Ryine! Hang on!" Kin shouts. It's all he manages before reaching two turkeys, blocking him from the one that was attacking them. His charge gives him enough momentum to whirl his giant blade, aiming for the neck. After that strike, he keeps spinning, making another step to slash the one beside the first.

Using one of my missed turns. I'll use my final one depending on how this goes.

Vladimir remained in his trance-like state, his movements nimble and efficient; there was no hesitation, nor breaks in the flow of his movements. He no longer had foes near him, but it didn't matter. He ran swiftly toward the giant turkey with both blades poised, and made a low whirl, slashing across the fowl with both sword and knife.

[spoiler]
Just a heads up, I used my extra turn last time I posted, so Vlad has no missed turns.

Kin was frustrated that he missed his first target. Hell, I charged straight for it! Ah...I guess I was too obvious. Well at least I took ONE by surprise. With that, he turned his attention back to his first target, determined to make his next strike count.

[spoiler]
Checked with Throndir about the missed target so I could get all the extra turns out of the way. Re-attacking the original target.

The girl in black moved unseen amongst the shadows. She waited patiently for her allies to move in, for the opportunity she needed. The moment Ryine charged in, she saw her window.

The girl dashed forward, unseen in the shades. It was time to end the rampant gobbling.

When she emerged from the shadows, her Kukri glowed with rage beyond the girl's own, finding its way into the giant Turkey's back twice in succession. And then, as soon as the judgement came, the girl in black faded into the shadows again.

It was as though the darkness itself sought the turkey's heart. The assailant was solid, yet formless - invisible, yet holding overwhelming presence. Strike after strike with impunity, until her target's heart was carved out.

[spoiler]Branwen moves right-right-right-right-right-right, flanking with Ryine. She is invisible and does not provoke AoOs during this time.

[blockquote]Rolled 1d20+15 : 18 + 15, total 33[/blockquote] Move Silently

As a swift action, she uses Bane (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/inquisitor#TOC-Bane-Su-) on her Kukri to give it the 'Bane (Turkeys)' property. Then she attacks Dave with bonuses from concealment, flanking, and bane.

[blockquote]Rolled 1d20+14 : 10 + 14, total 24[/blockquote] vs Flatfooted AC

[blockquote]Rolled 1d4+1 : 4 + 1, total 5
Rolled 2d6 : 6, 5, total 11[/blockquote] Slashing damage
[blockquote]Rolled 1d6 : 5, total 5[/blockquote] Precision damage
[blockquote]Rolled 1d6 : 5, total 5[/blockquote] Acid damage

Then, using one of her missed turns, she pronounces the Escape Judgement (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/inquisitor/archetypes/paizo---inquisitor-archetypes/heretic) as a swift action and attacks again with the same bonuses.

[blockquote]Rolled 1d20+14 : 5 + 14, total 19[/blockquote] vs AC (not flatfooted, as she is no longer invisible)

[blockquote]Rolled 1d4+1 : 3 + 1, total 4
Rolled 2d6 : 3, 3, total 6[/blockquote] Slashing damage
[blockquote]Rolled 1d6 : 4, total 4[/blockquote] Precision damage
[blockquote]Rolled 1d6 : 5, total 5[/blockquote] Acid damage

She then activates her judgement as a move action to hide in the shadows.

[blockquote]Rolled 1d20+11 : 2 + 11, total 13[/blockquote] Bluff (diversion)
[blockquote]Rolled 1d20+15 : 6 + 15, total 21[/blockquote] Hide

As quickly as the giant turkey was summoned, the guild members had acted just as quickly if not more so. Each of them saved the best of their abilities for last, unleashing their powers in full swing. The fight had been tough, even Vladimir was knocked unconscious from one of the giant turkey's last spiteful attack against them. But they felled the beast. The turkeys continued to fight even after their giant was slain, but even they dropped one by one. Soon enough the whole courtyard was littered with piles of slain turkeys, with a large turkey right at the center; kind of like the centerpiece at a Thanksgiving table. New faces of the guild interacted with the ones from the year before. Some of them had even wanted to continue the fight, one particular dwarf and human sparring with each other, their thirst for battle not quite quenched.

The night was passing, but the guild was quicker to act on the preparations. Holding an outdoor feast, turkey was served all-around. Some had been previously burned and was drenched in inedible oil, but for the most part, the turkeys were edible. Vladimir, recovering as Sophie and Ludar tended to him. Chadra, though not as injured as methuselan, had more than few serious wounds. Ryine who no longer felt the adrenaline surging through his veins only begun to felt his pains more clearly. Kryas too, took his share of the beating, but the resilient bard managed, even showing his customary grin to those who asked. Soon the fire mages of the guild got to their cooking, and soon peace reigned upon Ternadan again. So once again, the day is saved! Thanks to...

... the Guild of Galas'nor.

[spoiler=Open/Close for Music]http://www.youtube.com/v/FlJvfvhWof8&loop=1&autoplay=1[/spoiler]

Fanfare and cheer reverberated all throughout the guild hall of Galas'nor. The turkeys were soundly defeated and their colossal leader, Dave, lay dead in the courtyard. But the aftermath was just as rowdy and chaotic as the fighting itself, or perhaps even more so given the nature of Galas'nor. Guild members from all around were immediately put to work tending to the wounded and preparing a great feast, but Lyolf would have none of it. He was drained both physically and mentally from pushing his body's limits against this most recent ordeal. And as soon as the fighting ended, he collapsed in an unceremonious heap atop a makeshift bed of turkey feathers, plucked from the giant turkey's unmoving carcass.

The elf sighed weakly, but contentedly, allowing his body and mind some well-earned rest. Exhaustion was too weak a word to describe how he felt. Couple that with the mind-numbing migraine now plaguing his mind and he was completely and utterly "out of it."

"Not gonna join them?" a certain raven teased after some time had passed. "...You're joking," Lyolf wanly responded. Even now, he still retained enough strength and reason to respond appropriately to his familiar's odd sense of humor.

"Of course I am, but still..." Uli cocked her head slightly, obviously trying to think up a reasonable excuse.

"Aha~" the familiar suddenly burst out, giving the raven-equivalent of a smile basked in triumph. "All the food'll run out if you don't join them so-."

"I doubt that." Lyolf interjected and the raven could only stare at him silently and in annoyance, unable to argue back. "But..."

"I see your point," he completed, while getting up and leaving the comfort of his turkey bed. He then turned towards the loud, boisterous commotion known only as Galas'nor, and began slowly walking towards it, a raven perched atop his shoulder, and an eager gleam in his eye.

"Let's join in."
