Title: [IC] Feast of Thanks
Post by: Throndir on November 22, 2012, 12:21:26 PM
The eve of the Feast of Thanks that happened just once a year started with the whole entirety of the guild enjoying rows upon rows of food magically prepared for them by the guild leader and his array of chefs. Colorful lights and streamers decorated the interior hall of the guild. Even outside the guild, to the general populace of the city of Ternadan, the people celebrated the day by hanging up banners and lighting tall torches right outside each building.

In every home and building a feast was going on as friends and family took their time to enjoy each others' company. The demand for food on this day was always staggering, already the poor shopkeeper of the store D' n D' licious (http://forum.fantasyworldcreations.com/stores/d'-n-d'-licious!-(food-remixed-into-perfection-)/) was near out of stock. In fact a few entrepreneurs even attempted to magically enhance and create food just to supply the demand.

Now, one such entrepreneur, a wizard with some talent, managed to replicate and duplicate various turkeys, effectively increasing their number. The first few sets proved to be a success, so this wizard went on and on creating more life from just a single being. Soon enough he had hundreds of them. And soon enough, he had hundreds of problems to deal with.

The turkeys, though docile at first, suddenly became more enraged, meatier, and powerful. It didn't take long for the horde of magically altered turkeys to overcome the poor wizard, running over him and pecking the poor man with their beaks. They rampaged across all of the city, and even now, as the Feast of Thanks came into full swing, a horde of turkeys lay in wait.

A single voice erupted loudly during the celebration the Guild of Galas'nor was having.

"Guild! We're under attack!" And so it seemed, and so it was true. Right outside their gates were hundreds of them; turkeys. Not just any turkeys mind you, but
enraged, magically altered, and certainly evil turkeys.
You may choose to participate or not. Exp for this event is not party shared. Killing blows grant exp. This event will last until around Sunday 6 PM PST when it ends and this thread will be locked. Kill as many turkeys as you can.

Each turkey will grant 20 exp regardless of level adjustment or any other factors that might change exp.
Active posters will find themselves swarmed with turkeys. Regular posting order/initiative rules apply (not the official one, the one I made up), with the change that turkeys may not always use their freely granted turn to the best of their abilities.

Death shouldn't be common, but it can possibly happen.

Close spoiler to end music.

"Well, from the looks of it we will be feasting for weeks! Don't let a single turkey leave the guild hall alive!"

I approach the closest turkey to me, and let a mighty blow loose from my blade. "None shall survive, and who better to kill the first than me?!"

"You're kidding, right?" Branwen stared at the turkeys as though they were a bad joke. Seriously. Turkeys?

"Do forgive me if the birds are not left in an edible condition." She said, her gloved hand glowing green as a mote of boiling acid formed in her palm. "I dislike turkey meat, anyway."

With a wave of her finger, the green sphere flew outward towards an unfortunate bird.

As the encounter started, one of the birds was already down. An orb of acid sped forth to one of the turkeys, but with almost strange cunning and reflexes, the turkey managed to dodge right out of the way as it literally back-flipped in the air.

Reaching Ryine one of the turkeys jump straight at him.

Saendal was not about to go dawdling around slicing off the heads of a few turkeys just for the fun of it. The only reason he is participating is for his progression in his goal. He expects to reach a certain, level of superiority, sometime in the future, and what other place to start then killing turkeys? He must seize every opportunity he had to advance ahead of the main party.

Then, without hesitation, he charged forward, prepared to attack. He readied his sword in his right hand, and readied his magic in his left.

As he was approaching a demonic turkey he prepared a spell, and shot at it.
Cast Inflict Light Wounds: [1d8+1] 7 = 7 + 1 = 8
Directly after the spell he took his word, jumped up, twisted around, and slashed at the evil turkey.
I'm not sure if there are any modifiers, so if you could figure that in, that would be helpful.  [1d20] 13 = 13, if hit: [1d6] 5 = 5
(Heya, i'll do a more RP-type post with Kassie later. For now, let's just assume she's a part of the guild and killing Turkey)

Kassadin rushed in towards the nearest Turkey, charging into the square of H8, her sword already in mid swing half way through. "Allow me to take care of the carving!"

Although Sophie had been enjoying the festivities along with everyone else, she also took it upon herself to make sure the guild grounds were nice and clean! She had been sweeping up just outside, when the sound of someone in distress caught her attention. Along with the others, she had taken her place near the gates to stop the evil turkeys...Sophie also had a hard time holding back laughter at the site of them. Evil turkeys? Haha~.

Sophie moved toward the nearest turkey, and in one swift motion sent a dagger flying toward it.

Kassadin grinned at Sophie. "Looking forward to cleaning up this mess later?" Then she practially leaps forward to bring her blade down on the next turkey. Despite the fact that they were just walking food, in these numbers they could possibly... uh... annoy tourists. And as a member of the guild, she couldn't let that happen!

Branwen raised an eyebrow at the turkey at her feet, madly clawing and pecking at her leg to little avail. It was honestly a little pathetic, and if the black girl still had a soul, she might have pitied it enough to not immediately skewer it.

But she didn't. So she immediately skewered it.

Saendal's attack missed. The turkeys would have struck hard against the Necromancer, but Saendal was deftly able to swing out of the way just in time, though he still suffered wounds from the surprisingly persistent poultry...

The turkeys who attacked Sophie managed to get clean hits. Branwen managed to deflect one of the turkeys who lunged at her, likewise Kassadin did the same. Ryine wasn't so lucky as one of the turkeys slipped through his defenses and managed to land a blow.

As Kassadin struck towards the new foe he went up against, the turkey jumped and managed to evade the attack.

Branwen easily skewered her prey, while Ryine's quarry pulled a matrix and dodged his sword easily.

The turkeys were ready for another round. As one they jumped, pecked, slammed, bit, and flew at their targets.

Kassadin took a step back as the Turkey lunged at her, biting and clawing. It would wound her if she didn't do something! The necromancer's blade cut through the turkey, leaving the creature mortally wounded as it fell to the ground. Likewise Kassadin did the same as she side stepped closer to where Ryine battled with the evil turkeys.

This time around, Brawn wasn't so lucky as the turkey saw the attack coming and deflected the stab just enough to let the rapier pierce harmlessly at his side.

Just around a hundred feet away Ryine quickly chopped one of the turkeys, slicing the creature in half as it fell dead on the floor.

The paladin saw one of her friends in trouble, placing a hand on her katana she was about to pull the blade.

You ready to kill some turkeys? Annia asked her katana. There was an awkward silence but her mentor finally spoke. Without waiting for his response she started charging towards the nearest turkey.

I didn't tell you this before... But these creatures you call turkeys are... sacred to my people. The sword said hesitantly. Annia momentarily faltered in her approach.

T-turkeys? For goodness sakes, we eat them here!

Yes, a barbaric practice. The paladin grunted as she chose to draw her greatsword instead. She shrugged and brought it down on her target.

The competition between the guild members increased, the group started killing the turkeys with a lot more vigor than before. But... As Ryine and Kassadin moved to behead some more turkeys their attacks missed as the turkeys, after glaring once, moved away just in time.

Branwen on the other hand scored a perfect hit as he weapon whistled in the air striking its poor victim's heart.

The score between those three combatants were now even.

The attacks against Branwen missed easily as she dodged and parried the beaks aimed at her.

Max was able to dodge one of the attacks, but his landing made him easy target for one of the other turkeys.

As the turkeys swarmed and flanked Annia, only one of them got through her defense.

The turkey aiming for Sophie missed again.

Ryine got slammed at his back by one of the turkeys which flanked him. Though, he did managed to fend of two other attacks.

Kassadin wasn't so lucky as she was hit by the turkeys around her.

Seeing Ryine miss yet again, Kassadin sighed and swung her blade down on the Turkey he tried and failed to fell. She rolled her eyes at Sophie. "I'm not sure I'll have time to clean later, I'm already taking care of Ryine's messes."

As Saendal casts a spell, the turkeys found an opportunity to attack.

Kassadin quickly dispatched another turkey.

The attacks of opportunity against Saendal missed, giving Saendal the chance to wound one of the creatures absorbing its life-force - it died at the spot.

Annia killed another.

Branwen's luck running out, one of the turkeys managed to score a hit.

The turkeys attempted to avenge their fallen comrade, but the dog manage to dodge the attacks again.

One of the turkeys hit Annia.

Another hit Sophie.

Though Ryine tried his best to defend, two of the turkeys managed to get through.

The same happened with Kassadin.

Sophie agreed with Kassadin, the sheer amount of turkeys was beginning to get overwhelming! Sadly, Sophie couldn't kill them fast enough, she simply lacked the ability to do tons of damage like the others. She held her broom, and *poof!*, now stood with Kassadin further away from the attacking birds.

Branwen's sword missed as the agile turkey swayed out of the way.

Ryine took down another one of the turkeys, but he did notice one thing... He was kinda alone as Kassadin and Sophi left him.

Branwen gets hit.

Max gets hit badly.

Saendal is brought to disabled. (You can only do one standard action, or move action, and nothing too strenuous.)

Annia is hit.

Though two of the turkeys provided her with cover, one of the turkeys managed to deal a heavy wound on the warrior. It was enough to disable the able fighter.

"Who woulda thought turkeys could be so dangerous?!" Sophie said as Kassadin continued to be attacked. She placed her hand on the girls back yet again, hoping to help her out a bit. If Sophie couldn't do much damage, she thought it a good idea to at least help out those that could.

Kin stirs from his dream, to which be blinks and ponders a moment. What was with that dream full of turkeys? I couldn't even eat them, it was horrible! His thoughts on his nightmare were interrupted when he hears tons of gobbling and battlecries. He goes to look out the window to see what's happening. What in the...what is all that gobbling? That's probably where the dream came from...The guild is fighting turkeys? With that thought, he yelled out his window, "Who let the cook's damn turkeys out!?" He then stormed down the stairs and out to the fray.

Well they look plump enough...we'll have our meal yet!

Ludar rubbed his eyes, to much to drink priest, you should know better than that, slept clean through dinner. The dwarf stretched as tautly as he could his eyes adjusting to the dimmed light. Smacking his lips he lifted his weight to a sitting position on the seat he occupied. He blinked once, a room full of turkey's filled his view. He thought nothing of it, then suddenly it hit him "A room full of Turkey's EVIL TURKEY'S" or at least they looked evil to him. It looked as though other Guild members had been fighting them, and they were doing none to well. He readied his morning star and jumped into the fray attempting to turn the undead with his holy symbol.

"Gah!" Saendal yelled as the turkeys tore a chunk of flesh out of his legs. He laid on the ground in pain, but thankfully ("thankfully," Haha, get it!) he could still attempt to fight the turkeys off. He cast Cause Fear to buy Max and his party members some time from the onslaught.

Branwen looked idly at the turkey before her. To her, it was no more than another mere annoyance, bearing no weight on her life. But as the turkey looked back, its life began to flash before its eyes. It thought about the events that had led it here, to be killed by this woman now. Of every end that could have awaited the bird, it would come to be one of the Guildman's rapiers.

How?

Harry Turkey stood silently in the rain, the moon obscured by the dark clouds. It was a dark and stormy night of 1992, a night that he would never forget. Before him lay a dead turkey, the blood washing away in the rain, swallowed up by the gutter like a hungry beast.

Plodding footsteps approached him, small splashes in the puddles that filled the streets. "Gob gob gobble gob?"* A second turkey asked, looking over to Harry.

*translated from Turkey: "This is the body?"

Harry didn't look over to him. His detective badge gave only the slightest glint from a nearby street light. In the end, he was no life saver. By definition, the detective arrived after the crime had already been committed. He would always be too late. "Gobble."* Harry replied, finally raising his eyes to his assistant turkey, Dave Melleagris. "Gob gobble...gob."**

*translated from Turkey: "Yeah."
**translated from Turkey: "This turkey...was murdered."

"Gobble gob..."* Dave replied, covering his eyes with his hat.

*translated from Turkey: "My god..."

The silvery knife still emerged from the turkey corpse. The murderer was either brave, or foolish. Harry took one of his turkey cigarettes out of his beak, dropping it on the ground. It was extinguished by the same rains that bathed the city, flooding the empty streets at this late hour.

They toiled, night and day, for six weeks. The cops had long since given up on the case, declaring it cold and moving on. But Harry turkey never gave up on a client. The victim's wife, a young, slim turkey with light brown feathers, had pleaded to him to find vengeance for her lost love, no matter what the cost. Harry was a married turkey, of course. But even so, he could never deny a dame.

The dagger had no manufacturer. It had been homemade, probably by the killer himself. He must have thought that it would cover his tracks more than a store bought knife. But Harry was smarter than that. There was only one turkey in the whole city that could make a knife this good. Mark Galliformes, the blacksmith turkey on 87th street. Taking his hat off, Harry could only sigh. He knew Mark. They had a drink together just the other day, for christ's sake. But no matter how much he wished to deny it, there was no other possibility.

Harry and Dave, the two detectives, approached his blacksmith shop. At first, Mark was amiable. But the moment Harry flashed his badge, he knew why they were there. "Gob gobble gob, gob? Gobble gob!?"* Harry asked in a tone devoid of friendliness, his eyes low.

*translated from Turkey: "Why did you do it, Mark? Why did you kill him!?"

"Gob gobble gob! Gob gob gobble gobob!!"* Mark cried, grabbing hold of a burning hot blade, the edge still white from the forge. "Gobble gob! Gobble gob gob gob gob!!"**

*translated from Turkey: "You could never understand! He took everything from me!!"
**translated from Turkey: "You'll never take me alive!!"

Harry and Dave leapt for their guns, but Mark was faster. "GOBBBLEEEEE!!"* A lonely turkey's cry of pain echoed out through the night. It was Dave's, as the white hot blade was plunged through his chest. "Gobbleeee!!!" Harry yelled, pointing his pistol at Mark and firing.

*translated from Turkey: "AAAGGGHHHHH!!"
*translated from Turkey: "Daaaaaaaaaaaaave!!!"

The bullet hit him square in the beak, leaving him dead on the floor. As Harry stood over the corpses of his only two friends. He could shed no tears. Both of them were dead.

He returned home that night, to his wife and children, with dead eyes. And those eyes never saw life again. He wasted his days at bars, drowning his sorrows in cranberry juice. He didn't even notice his children growing up. "Gob gobble gob gob?" He asked his daughter once, on one of the rare occasions he still ate with his family.

*translated from Turkey: "Did Mrs. Gallopavo give you a good grade?"

"Gobble...gob gob gob gobble...gobble gobble..."* His eyes moved slightly in surprise.

*translated from Turkey: "Mrs. Gallopavo was my teacher last year...I'm in middle school now."

Harry had no response. He merely looked down in shame. And later that night, there he was in the bar again. To him, that was where he belonged. Maybe his family was better off without him.

His wife apparently thought the same. One night, he came home, at four in the morning as he often did. Every night, he went to kiss his children goodnight. They were already asleep, of course. It was far too late for them to hear him. But he liked to think that sometimes, they woke up in the morning, and still felt the warmth of his beak on their cheeks.

But his daughter's bed was empty. As was his son's, and his wife's. He wandered down to the dining room in a stupor, to see a lonely note on the table.

Gob gobble, gobble. Gobble gob gob gobble. Gobble gobble, gob gob gob gobble, gobble gob gob gobble. Gobble gob gobble.

Gobble gob gobble, gob gob gobble gob gobble gobble. Gob gobble gob gobble.

*translated from Turkey: "I can't take this anymore, Harry. You're not the turkey I married. Every night, you come home smelling like cranberries, hours after the children have gone to bed. We never see you anymore.

I've taken the children, and gone to live with my mother in San Francisco. Please don't come looking for us."

Harry set the paper back down on the desk with a trembling wing. They had gone, forever. Slipped through his feathered fingers. That night, he shed the tears that he should have shed when Dave and Mark died.

One year later...

Harry's wife set her children to bed quietly. She still left their door open, out of habit. She knew that Harry used to come in and tuck them in long after they had fallen asleep. But Harry was gone now. She had her own life again. With a slow, plodding walk, she descended the stairs, into the front room of her mother's house.

There was a knock on the door. She looked up, surprised. Her mother never had visitors. And she had left behind all of her friends in Elodria when she moved to San Francisco. And what's more, it was eleven oclock at night. Far too late for visitors.

With a cautious walk, she approached the door and opened it. She was greeted with the shadowy figure of a turkey, pale and thin. And in front, on his chest, he bore a deep, blackened gash.

The mysterious turkey raised a knife. Harry's wife screamed, but she closed the door too late. As she slowly bled to death on the carpet, the lonely turkey's only wish was for Harry to come save her.

But he never came.

Harry walked forlornly in a dark forest. It was his escape, into the wilderness. He had walked away from the city, from everything he once held dear. The rain pounded the treetops, and thunder rang out through the trees. As he looked up, memories washed over him. Of a dark street corner, and the dead turkey that had started it all. It was just like...

"Gob gobble gob gobble, gob gobble?"*

*translated from Turkey: "Just like that night, eh Harry?"

He turned around sharply. The figure was shrouded in darkness. But he knew that voice. He recognized it anywhere. "...Gobble?"*

*translated from Turkey: "...Dave?"

The shadowed turkey stepped into the moonlight. On his chest, the blackened gash from the blacksmith's word a year ago still seemed to simmer with an unholy tenacity. "Gob, gobble. Gob gob gobble, gob gobble gobble."*

*translated from Turkey: "That's right, Harry. I'm the friend you abandoned, on this night, one year ago."

"Gob...gobble?"* Harry asked, backing away. Dave only inched closer, matching his steps and keeping their distance.

*translated from Turkey: "But...how?"

"Gob gob gobble gob gobble gob. Gob gobble, gob gobble gob. Gob gobble, gob gob gobble. Gob gob gob, gobble gob gob."* Dave replied, edging closer to Harry. A knife was in his hand, like a sharpened shadow in the lonely night. "Gob gob, gob gobble, gobble gob gobble. Gob gobble gob gobble gob gobble gobble."**

*translated from Turkey: "The hot sword cauterized the wound it made. You left me for dead, but I didn't bleed out. But when I awoke, I had lost all of my memories. I didn't know who I was, or how I got there."
**translated from Turkey: "But slowly, I remembered, bit by bit. You left me there when I needed you most."

"Gob gobble! Gob gob gobble gobble!"* Harry cried out in fear, cowering at the base of a tree.

**translated from Turkey: "I'm sorry! I thought you had died!"

"Gob gobble, gobble."* Dave said, with a ghastly gleam in his eye. "Gob gobble. Gob gobble gob gobble gob."**

**translated from Turkey: "I did die, Harry."
**translated from Turkey: "I'm a ghost. A ghost of your failure."

There was a soft, plodding sound. Something had been dropped in the wet grass. Harry looked up in horror. His wife's head, already rotted and drained of blood. Even obscured by the tall reeds, there could be no mistake.

"Gob gobble, gobble."* Dave said sinisterly, edging closer. "Gob gobble. Gob gobble gobble."**

**translated from Turkey: "I killed your children, too."
**translated from Turkey: "You abandoned them as well. You abandoned everyone."

Harry stared incredulously. For a moment, he couldn't believe what was happening. It all had to be a bad dream. But it wasn't.

Then, his rage boiled. He stood up, slowly. Dave's beak twisted in to a wicked smile.

(http://i41.tinypic.com/2lmba09.png) (http://www.youtuberepeater.com/watch?v=ykfA1766EGQ)

Harry drew a pocket knife out of his feathers, gripping it in right wing, and dashed at Dave. Their knives clashed, the moon emerging from the clouds as though to witness their climactic battle, casting its gleam upon their blades.

Harry could only stare into his old friend's wound, the deep burn in his chest. But he was brought out of his reverie when Dave drew back, aiming his knife at Harry's side. He parried, jumping back and clutching his blade even harder. "Gob gobble gobble, gobble."* Dave said, with an eager grin.

**translated from Turkey: "My eyes are up here, Harry."

Harry clenched his beak, the rain and thunder pounding in his ears. They were too far away from civilization for either of their corpses to be found. Whichever one of them died tonight would go missing forever.

But...his enemy was someone who had already gone missing. Dave would only be cast back into the void from which he had emerged. He was a ghost, who had already lost everything there was to lose. It was Harry who was fighting for his life, blade in hand.

He lunged again, but Dave sidestepped the overeager thrust, bringing his knife down on Harry's right wing. He yelled out in anger, stumbling away as he clutched his right side with his left wing. It was bleeding, dripping into the wet grass over the decapitated head of his wife.

He glared back at Dave, switching the knife to his left wing. The thunder pounded harder, like the beating of tribal drums, matched only by the pumping of his blood. Feeling Harry's determination, Dave glared back at him with the same rage, raising his knife in defense.

He lunged again, aiming at Dave's neck. But as though the shadows of the night themselves protected the turkey's body, his dagger fell short. Stumbling blindly, he only just barely avoided Dave's counter attack, a swipe aimed at his legs. Refusing to retreat, Harry leapt forward one more time. He couldn't afford to fall here. Even if he had lost everything...his friends...his family...he couldn't give up hope here. He still had his life. And he would protect it to the bitter end.

Dave's face twisted into a maniacal smile as he met Dave's assault, point for point. Their blades knocked each other side, reeling back in to meet again and again. The clashes and sparks rang out through the forest with no one to hear them. But each of Harry's strikes only became slower and slower, as his exhaustion overtook his adrenaline. And Dave's swings somehow became even faster, as though feeding on Harry's despair.

Harry knew that the battle couldn't go on much longer. His body wouldn't last. He stumbled backwards, catching his breath. Dave didn't pursue, only standing there with an amused, gleeful grin. He raised his dagger above his head, ready for Harry's final charge. Harry summoned every ounce of energy and feeling he had into his left wing. His wife...his children...he couldn't let it end like this. With a final, howling gobble, he charged forward, aiming to sink his knife into Dave's chest.

The confrontation ended with a final stroke. Both of their daggers had found their mark. But Harry's knife had only traced the outline of a mark already made. His knife had sunk into the gash that had been left there from a year ago.

Dave's knife had found the same spot on Harry's chest. The same wound, a stab that left a gaping wound on his abdomen. Harry fell down, choking up blood. He wouldn't be as lucky as Dave. His wound bled like any other. With a gaze devoid of remorse, the turkey looked down at the turkey who had once been his friend.

Harry bled out, in that forest. Dave wandered away, unsure of what to do. He had his revenge. He had accomplished everything he set out to do, but now, he felt emptier than ever. He realized that what he desired now, was death. The true death, that should have found him on that rainy night, one year ago.

That was why he came to the Guild. He joined in with the other turkeys, knowing full well that their assault would fail, and that in that failure, all of them would die.

But that was fine.

At the end of this girl's blade, he would finally find peace.

With Max's master incapacitated and the turkeys approaching Max had to act quick. He lunged at the turkey east of Saendal in order to break their line of defenses.

And so as the turkeys dropped one by one, the threat to the guild diminished as each turkey was slain. Soon the whole of the courtyard was filled with piles upon piles of turkey corpses. There were a few turkeys with stains of acid - which left them quite uneatable, but many of them were just right. Some looked to be already dead which the guild promptly disposed of. But many looked just right. The cleaning would have taken hours upon hours, and though Sophie would have cleaned the courtyard right outside the guild halls, the festivities of the season put those plans on hold.

Soon the fire mages of the guild got to their cooking, turkey dishes were prepared for everyone. Even the shop D'n D' licious (http://forum.fantasyworldcreations.com/stores/d'-n-d'-licious!-(food-remixed-into-perfection-)/) was stocked to the brim with turkey, as well as myriad of turkey products.

The Feast of Thanks yet again was resumed. So once again, the day is saved! Thanks to...

... the Guild of Galas'nor.
Questionnaire Rewards
Branwen: +50 exp (Best post)
Sophie Cain: +50 exp (Best roleplayer)
Ryine: +50 exp (Best improvement - as a writer or as a character)

I want to note Branwen actually got the Best roleplayer award, but to keep exp a bit fair, I'm choosing not to give a player voting awards twice - so it went to Sophie who was second.
