Some time in the pre dawn hours Scathach shakes each of you awake before putting a finger to her lips to indicate you should keep silent. Once each of you are awake cups a hand to her ear before whispering, "Do you hear that? It sounds like someone calling for help."
Surely enough, after straining your ears for a moment you hear a weak cry coming some distance from your camp.
"Help... Help me please..."
Thedrin opened his eyes irritated but then more suddenly at the cry for help. He had coincidentally been having a dream that started rather similarly. He began to pull on his scale shirt, hoping that maybe his dream was prophetic. He would settle for half as many buxom elves as his dream had included if it meant a solid trophy to bring back to town. "Well of course we should go help them." He said as matter of factly as he could.
About a hundred yards from the ruins of the tower you find the source of the distress call. You are still a distance away, but in the pre-dawn light you can make out the body of a woman lying on the ground near some bushes.
"Help... me..." she rasps, barely moving.
It was almost exactly the way he might have envisioned it, though she had far more clothes and was of a more pedestrian stock than in his dream. "Worry not, you are in the presence of a knight." Said Thedrin as he rushed to the aid of the woman.

As Thendrin nears the woman, a sudden burst of movement comes from the nearby brush. A massive shape springs forward to clamp its jaws firmly on the paladin's outstretched arm, yanking downward with force.
The beast, resembling an oversized wolf, looks at your group with a gleam in its bright red eyes before loosing an ear splitting howl. Then, more unnerving calls out with the same voice you expected to belong to the woman on the ground.
"COME SISTERS, TONIGHT WE FEAST ON MAN-FLESH!"
From the shadows of the surrounding rocks and brush come three additional wolves, normal sized, but no less ferocious. They snarl and eye you with hungry eyes...

"Fuck, we're surrounded!" Scathach exclaimed, drawing her bow and firing a series of arrows at the wolf to the south. The attack finds its target, sinking into the wolf's shoulder as it yelps in pain.

"Kukuku~! We shall see, little man!" The beast snarls a laugh and bites at Thedrin while he attempts to regain his footing. Swiftly reacting to the attack he raises his shield to smack the monstrous wolf's head away and follows up with a slash burning with holy fury.
The blow connects cutting a gash across the creature's chest that flares radiantly for a moment before spilling blood and causing it to howl with rage and pain.
"WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!"
The wolf attempts to return the blow but Thedrin manages to slide just out of reach of its snapping jaws.

Cecilia's acid dart flies harmlessly past its target, while from behind the wolf that Scathach had shot closes the distance to the wizard and bites at her ankle. The beast's teeth sink into her flesh but she manages to pull away before it can drag her to the ground.

Rhenri's attack strikes the wolf, piercing a vital organ. The beast collapses as blood begins to pool beneath it.
Elsewhere, another wolf closes in on Scathach and bites at her arm but she moves aside at just the right second to avoid the attack. A second wolf crosses the battlefield to harry Thedrin as he deals with the larger beast. The creature seizes upon a moment of distraction and bites into an exposed gap in Thedrin's armor but fails to hold on as it tries to drag the paladin to the ground.
Across the field, Scathach steps backwards and lines up a shot on the wolf that tried to bite her, but the close distance works against her and the shot misses.

The flaming arrow streaks through the air and pierces the wolf in the side. A yelp escapes its muzzle before it turns and begins to run. The other wolf, still near Scathach, backs up slowly realizing the situation has turned irreparably against the pack's favor and then turns to flee as well.
Watching the wolves depart, Scathach lowers her bow and heaves a sigh. "Fair to say they probably won't bother us again."

Next to Thedrin, the large wolf remains alive, unconscious, bloodied and barely breathing.
"Clearly they were merely following the larger wolf." Said Thedrin as he walked up to the wounded woman. "My lady, let me help you." He said as he laid a hand on the woman's wound and let loose some healing power.

Touching the woman with his hand brimming with holy energy does nothing. Closer inspection reveals that the woman was already dead, most likely long before you arrived on scene. It seems the large intelligent wolf was merely using her body to bait unwary adventurers seeking to help.
"What a plot. It appears the woman is dead." Says Thedrin as he rises from kneeling. "Hm... how well do you think you can bind the beast?" He asks as he looks at the unconscious creature. "Dead, they would only serve as a particularly large pelt but alive they would serve as a testament of my skill to the captain."

"I reckon this is one of those 'my dead wolf is bigger than yours', type of things?" Rhenri commented, as she went about checking and collecting her spent arrows. With that done, she would attempt to skin the wolves but will prompt Scathach to lead.

"I dunno if bringing this thing back alive is the best idea... but whatever. I'll get it bound tight and then help Rhenri get other useful things from the one we managed to kill."
After some effort, and the use of some strong rope, Scathach has the large wolf hog-tied and slung over the back of a horse. As a precaution she put together a makeshift muzzle to keep the beast's mouth closed. Following that she helped Rhenri skin the corpse of the wolf your group had managed to kill.

"Oh come now, it will be a glorious triumph. Besides, we will be back in town by nightfall. What's the worst that could happen?" Replied Thedrin.
Scathach checked the bindings once more before mounting her horse. "Yes. What could possibly go wrong with carrying a huge, smart, talking wolf on the back of a horse for a day..."
In the time following the battle with the wolves, the sun has since crested the horizon and a new day has begun. Turning your mounts back towards Telan, you begin your ride home.
