QuoteLate comers go ahead and choose a group you want to jump in.

The guild had gathered swiftly. Small groups of parties already rushing throughout the city, searching for any of the undead. Surprisingly there were a lot. It seemed as if the entire city had suddenly been infested with the skeletons. None of the citizens knew where they had come from, some even claimed that they had appeared out of no where. It begged the question on how the skeletons appeared, or if there was anyone responsible.

But there was little time to ponder on such things as the undead continued to fill the streets of the city. As you joined your comrades to fight off the threat,  you had already passed by a couple of piles of bones. Likely where an unfortunate skeleton met its end again.

In the distance you see a man, wounded, and limping towards you. Right behind him, three skeletons approached, swiping at the man.

It was a scene from Hell. The dead were rising, and like moths to flame, drew towards the spark of the living. And though Lyolf wasn't sure of how much damage had already been inflicted, having just got here sprinting from the guild hall, he knew that such chaos could only prove lethal in a city that had grown too accustomed to peace.

An aging, bald man was running towards the young elf and the two guild mates that had similarly followed the city's call-to-arms. The man was wounded, however, and with three of the undead hot on his heels it was clear he wasn't going to make it. Eyeing the sword still sheathed at his side, Lyolf briefly considered putting him out of his misery, not only to prevent the man from going through needless pain but also to deny whatever sinister force was behind all this a usable corpse.

But there was still hope.

However small his chances, the man could still escape from all this. After all, he had already survived coming all this way, living on even when others would have perished. It is said that only when a man reaches his limits, is he granted one chance at a miracle. And so, Lyolf stayed his hand, in deference to that one chance.

Instead, he looked over his shoulder and seemed to address his traveling pack as he spoke, "Prepare a flask." And as if in response, his pack began to move as if possessed. But with every movement, the pack would lift slightly, giving glimpses of a beak, a feather, and a set of sharp eyes that implied an intelligence far greater than was natural.

Lyolf didn't even bother to check, trusting in his familiar to understand what he had asked with those three simple words, and, with his off-hand, held out a piece of cured leather taken from a pouch hanging opposite from where his sword lay. And though such a small piece of leather would normally serve as little defense in combat, much less so against a pack of ravenous undead, Lyolf was not normal.

The elf began tracing several lines weaving elaborately through the air through a set of practiced motions with his right hand, even as he held, and concentrated heavily, on that single piece of leather held tightly in his left.

-Even if his training was cut short, leaving him to seek out and practice his own way, he could still take pride in the fact that he was among the select few.

A faint glow, only visible if one were to concentrate, began appearing on the lines Lyolf was tracing in the air. A minor pain began to throb in his forehead, similar to a headache, but of a different nature. The young elf simply grit his teeth and continued.

-The elf was part of a group of gifted individuals, after all, who through some odd twist of fate held the power to alter reality itself. Through their hands, they created items of wondrous power and achieved seemingly insurmountable feats which were impossible by normal means.

The lines were visibly glowing now, but Lyolf did not stop. Instead, he waited for that slim window of opportunity when the glow shines brightest, right before the glow would go out completely.

-But his kind weren't limited to "normal means," and used their mastery of the arcane to reach heights unimaginable.

By then, the lights coming to his eyes were almost blinding to one trained to sense the arcane, so he closed his eyes and stopped looking even as he maintained the lines. Just a little more, he thought, then...

"Magis R?s!"

He shouted the command words and light exploded all around him. Eventually, it faded and a strange barrier of sorts came to envelope the young elf, a being known by the realm's inhabitants as one beyond the world's reason and thus beyond the world's limits-a mage.

[spoiler]Lyolf casts mage armor on self (and his familiar via Share Spells). Meanwhile, Uli takes a full round action to make a pint of oil usable as a thrown weapon.

It was  total chaos as Kryas saw people running through the streets attempting to get away from the horde of the undead. Why now though? Monsters attacking in these numbers did not just happen randomly someone or something had called them here that much was obvious. Who or what caused this  panic and why? All important questions and perhaps he would find some answers later for now he turned bacl outward on the situation. Leading any survivors out of danger came first. They could use the guild hall as a safe haven for the time being. A path would be cleared because of the guilds response and as long as they stayed in the building the others who remained behind would make sure they stayed alive.

Then he saw the old man running from three of the skeletons heading right for them he wouldn't last much longer without some kind of help.

mumbling under his breath Kryas cast Ghost Sound of a crying child directly behind the three skeletons

hoping that that might distract them enough for him to strike pulling out his elven long bow and notching an arrow.

"Help!" The old man cried out, as he shambled out of the way as the skeletons neared him. Quick to act Lyolf had already begun casting some defensive magicks, while his familiar Uli began to prepare the flask of oil. Likewise Kryas bursted into action casting a spell behind the skeletons; a cry of a child. The skeletons, thinking there was more prey, looked towards the sound, but saw nothing.

Vladimir cursed under his breath at the sight of the skeletons. Normally people would be shocked at the sight of the undead, but he had seen ones like these before. And he wanted them gone. No exploitable weak points. Guess it's just brute force this time.

Vladimir then looked to the man as they ran toward each other, "Keep going! We'll hold them off while you reach safety! There are healers in our guild hall to tend to your wounds, so rest there, we will reclaim your home in your stead!"

Gritting his teeth, Vladimir crossed his blades in front of him and continued his sprint, diving into the group of skeletons behind the man. He then scissored his blades, throwing his rapier into an accelerated thrust right into the spine of the center skeleton, while throwing his off-hand high, allowing him to more easily parry any attempts at a counter with his kukri.

"Curse the one that resurrected you all...For today you will taste death once more."

As the old man gained distance, Vladimir dashed forward, with his rapier leading the way. He had attempted to land a quick strike on the skeletons, but as his weapon came rushing into the central skeleton, the undead warrior managed to bring its shield up in time, deflecting the blow, staggering as it did so.

[spoiler]Retcon: Skeletons moved a bit forward even though they were distracted from the sound. They just didn't attack. The old man also moved forward more, and was able to gain more distance because of Kryas' distraction.

A light tap from within his pack told him his familiar was done, prompting Lyolf to reach into the pack behind him. A flask of some sort was dropped onto his hand, which he took graciously, before taking a sudden step forward and lobbing it just as graciously at the nearest undead.

"What, not even bothering with a simple 'thank you?'" a melodious (at least more so than the humanized elf) voice asked from within the contents of the elf's pack, to which he callously responded:

"Just ready the next flask."

What followed, naturally, was a quick argument between the two. And so, the elf just stood there, bickering with his traveling pack, even as combat began and the undead advanced

Kryas aims and fires an arrow at the furthest skeleton(#1) in hopes of slowing its movemnts further so that the man might be able to get that much distance between himself and the monsters. He took his shot smoothly trying his best to block out any of the surrounding noises including that of his team member's bickering with his knapsack. putting the arrow close to his lipshe wistled while he fired his arrow. It piereced through the air fast followed by a long high pitched whir.

The thrown flask broke as it landed. There was no ignition though its contents were spilt on the ground.

Kryas' arrow flew, but as it neared its mark, the arrow went right through one of the many large gaping holes in the skeleton's body.

Meanwhile the skeletons continued their relentless attack on Vladimir. Their wicked curved blades reaching for methuselan, only to be parried or completely dodged.

Vladimir predicted their attacks easily, parrying the two to either side with his kukri, then sidestepping the attack of the one he'd charged. They were skeletons after all, puppets given simple commands by whoever resurrected them. Sure, they had SOME liberty and adatability, but neither the brains nor the agility to use it.

He used the momentum from his sidestep to spin and slash deeply into the same skeleton once more, hoping to strike down the target and move aside from the new pool of oil. That is NOT something I want to step in...lest I get caught in his attack. I'm happy to take the brunt of their attacks, though. No doubt I'm the only one nearby that could. Vladimir keeps his kukri poised defensively, knowing there will be more counters.

"Nice shot," a voice dryly spoke from inside the elf's pack. "And good handling of that flask," Lyolf immediately countered, noting the ensuing explosion-or rather, the lack of one.

Ignoring that remark, Uli continued, "With such fine marksmen amongst us, the future sure seems bright for Galas'nor." The raven had to cough. The elf merely smiled in response and, in all seriousness, asked his familiar:

"Woud you rather I throw you at the nearest undead?"

And then there was silence.

Eventually, that telltale tap on his back told Lyolf that his familiar was ready and the elf once again stuck an open hand inside of his pack. Only this time, the given flask was accompanied by a sudden, sharp pain, as the raven bit into his index finger.

"I'll have to pass, but thanks for asking"

His fighting, almost a dance, Vladimir struck the skeletons. Though he hit, the blow wasn't solid enough for the skeletons. Chips of their bones slowly starte whitling away, but it wasn't enough to do any serious damage. As Kryas' arrows came singing in, they too only chipped bone, but did not do any serious damage on the skeletons.

Like before, the bomb throwing mage repeated his throwing, and this time the bomb ignited. Igniting the previous flask as well, as the fire quickly spread.

The skeletons were unfazed, and though the fire bit into them, they continued their attack on Vladimir. He had avoided and parried their attacks, but with the fire burning as well, it was just enough distraction for the skeletons to land some hits.

Vladimir jumped a little to the side, still managing to get scorched. "Dammit, Lyolf, watch where you're exploding things!" Vlad then mumbled to himself, "I swear he did more to me than them..."

In the instant of that distraction, he realized that he had only dodged two strikes, and not three. The missing third strike clipped him in the side, causing him to roll backward in even more pain. "Aaagh!" This is NOT ideal...

Realizing that the world was suddenly out to get him, AGAIN, Vladimir took a more defensive stance, striking once again at the same skeleton, hoping to do SOMETHING to it.
