QuoteLetina and Aran only.

Venturing into the abandoned facility, you notice many buttons and lights. As you start fiddling with the controls, the facility lights up, activating all sorts of machinery and old computers. As you did so, you heard a bark. Moments after that you see a pack of Houndour staring at you. There were three of them, each of them had their fangs bared.

Letina Rae Desl?geech

Startled, Letina turned to look where the bark had come from, failing to notice the boy not too far away she only saw the three Houndour. They looked intimidating in the dark building. Letina had to act fast. Blaise was hiding somewhere in the building, and now was not the time for admiring Quilz. Reaching into her pocket, she quickly withdrew one of her empty Pok?balls and threw it at the closest Houndour. If she caught one of them, then there would be one less to have to worry about. Maybe she could catch all three!

As the Houndour appeared, Letina threw a Pok? Ball at one of them. Although it hit, and the ball attempted to capture, after a few moments the Houndour was released again, breaking the Pok? Ball in the process. There were three Houndour altogether, the one at the center looked to be slightly larger than the ones beside it.

Blaise stood hunched and trembling in a small dark corner, deciding that it had been stupid to get upset with his mother and run into a dark building like that. He had thought the place abandoned. Then, he could like the whole place on fire. But not long after entering the place, he heard the sounds of growling. Scared to be on his own when there was obviously more than one, he hid. It did not register in his mind that Letina was calling for him and thus attracting whatever it was to herself until it was too late.

He heard her gasp of surprise in the same general direction as the growling. No! The little Torchic stood up straight, suddenly confident. He would not let some wild punks hurt his mother! Puffing up his feathers to make himself look bigger, he charged out. He could not really use fire attacks in battle just yet, but he could certainly scratch those wild punks all up!

Seeing his opponents, the little bird charged with his attack.

The little Torchic appeared from behind a mass of electronics, the sudden appearance too sudden for even the Houndour to take notice. Blaise's moves were almost a blur as it used its legs clawing at the nearest Houndour's face, leaving behind raking claw marks and angering the Houndour more.

"Kyuubi, now!!"

The young man commanded, after waiting for an opportune time to strike. For he had very previously taken a quick peek at several visual recordings of this particular site through Xan Academy's security feed, and had been drawn towards it as a result. It hadn't been for a Rocket assignment, no, but what else was he to do with his time? Actually care for and train with his Pokemon, just like all the other trainers? Hah.

His Pokemon could care for themselves. Love and friendship are overrated.

As for training, he might be forced to make some concessions. However... Aran was a member of the prestigious Team Rocket and his priorities lay elsewhere. Where others would spend hours of their time deepening their bonds with their Pokemon and building life-long relationships, Rocket members would instead be deepening their wallets and creating solid business connections. Theirs was a more pragmatic approach to life and while they had nothing substantial against the ideals of "truth" and "love," they felt such ideals were as hollow as they were inefficient.

Thus, like any Rocket member before him, Aran did not rush in and simply waited in the shadows, a hand ready on his Pokeball, waiting for the perfect moment...

[spoiler=A moment such as this.]
"Prepare for trouble..."

And with that, Aran let fly a Pokeball at the Houndour so graciously prepared for him.

Aran had appeared, throwing his Pok? Ball at the injured Houndour that Blaise had attacked. With the damage already done, the Houndour was an easy catch. Kyuubi followed up with an Ember.

With one of the Houndour captured, the remaining two Houndours attacked back. One aiming for Blaise, and the other Kyuubi.

Letina Rae Desl?geech

"Good job, Blaise!" Letina called out upon seeing him run out and attack one of the Houndour all on his own. She had been about to throw out another Pok?ball to try to catch the one he had just weakened when another Pok?ball flew in. Startled, she looked over to see a boy and a Vulpix.

"Hey!" She yelled, upset that the boy was taking advantage of Blaise's efforts. Then, the boy's Vulpix attacked another Houndour. Fine, two could play at this game. Quickly pulling out another Pok?ball, she threw it at the Houndour that had just been weakened, but not before the Houndour had attacked his Vulpix.

Blaise also seemed to have been attacked by Ember, but because of his ability to withstand fire, he was in no danger from the fiery attack. Letina didn't know what would be the best thing to do. Should she let Blaise attack the poor Pok?mon and thus probably let the strange boy take advantage of Blaise's work and steal it out from under her or should she have him stand down?

Before she could call out what she wanted her Torchic to do, he made the decision for her. "Torchi tor!" Came his battle cry. Upset that some stranger had come along to steal a Pok?mon he had just worked to weaken for Letina, he attacked the stranger's Vulpix with his scratch attack.

"Kyuubi, ignore the Torchic," Aran quickly commanded, fearing it would counter with a Flashfire-infused Ember attack. Few could survive that. But then again, that particular Torchic had also come out of the Houndour's attacks unscathed so perhaps his worries were groundless.

Aran shrugged. Either way, he had come into this facility with only one goal in mind. He wasn't about to change that now.

"Try to hold the next one down, Kyuubi," he said simply, with another Pokeball at the ready.

Both trainers threw their Pok? Balls attempting to catch their targets, but the Houndour were too quick and they easily dodged out of the way as the balls simply bounced harmlessly away. Blaise, apparently angered at the Vulpix who had appeared, began attacking hitting the target, and like with the Houndour before, had left scratch marks on Kyuubi. Kyuubi ignoring the wounds, attempted to grapple one of the Houndour, but like with the Pok? Balls, it dodged out of the way.

The Houndour, surprisingly skilled at dodging, and upon seeing the Torchic change targets to the Vulpix, began doubling their efforts. Both Houndour seeing what little effect their attacks had done, change their tactics, biting and gnawing instead. Kyuubi managed to dodge the first incoming Houndour, but the manuever had her wide open for the next one.

Letina once again threw the Pok? Ball. This time the hit connected, and within moments the Houndour was digitized into the Pok? Ball. It moved for a slight bit, but soon enough it was captured. Blaise continued to attack Kyuubi in the meantime, hitting the Vulpix with another round of scratches. The final hits were too much, and with the attacks from the Torchic, was knocked out.

The last remaining Houndour, gnarled as it displayed its teeth for all to see.

Despite himself, Aran silently applauded Kyuubi. Though he had ordered it to do something difficult, the Vulpix had continued to follow his orders faithfully, despite the continuous trashing it received from the Torchic hell-bent on its destruction. However, to deliberately take a beating without fighting back simply because its trainer wished it... That took strength of will.

But his Pokemon's loyalty and sacrifice notwithstanding, Aran found that he held nothing against the Torchic that had taken its anger out on Kyuubi. To put it simply, he had expected no better from the likes of Pokemon.

"But I guess even I can't leave things as is," the young muttered listlessly, as his right hand reached towards his backside and seemingly grasped at nothing but open air.

A taboo.

"Certainly, some may call my actions a taboo..." Aran grimaced as thoughts not his own came unbidden into his mind. For to wield a Honedge was an action both ill-advised and publicly discouraged, as the blade was famous for extracting a "price" from its wielder.

A Heretic.

"Some may even label me a 'heretic,'" he continued while a sword began materializing in his right hand. Since in his world, where monsters known as 'Pokemon' ruled supreme, it was unheard of for a mere human to qualify as a main combatant. It was blasphemous; the sheer notion was an insult to trainers everywhere.

"Nevertheless, I don't mind," he said plainly as he approached the remaining Houndour with clear intent. "Now, logically, a mere trainer stands no chance against a full-bred Pokemon."

"...But you know what?"
