Crew (Player Characters) / Character Creation
April 14, 2019, 04:45:59 AM
Alright guys, we'll be following the basic rules for character creation as laid out in the Starfinder player's guide and sticking to the content that the game currently supports. I'd like to get a feel for the system as a whole before we start trying to add in any original content or house rules.
If you need access to the ruleset or any other help, please let me know.

For your stats, after some deliberation, I've decided that we will stick with the basic point buy system. In Starfinder, point buy works as follows:

Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence,  Wisdom and Charisma all start at 10. You then add and subtract your points from your race selection, add points from your theme selection and then spend 10 points on your Attributes. You spend them on a 1 for 1 basis. You do not get more points if you subtract from an attribute, and no attribute can be above 18.

Runners / Jing "Joe" Yang - Human Decker
October 21, 2018, 04:45:32 PM
Sheet is in the drive.

Backstory:

Jing "Joe" Yang is a half Chinese fellow that hails from Seattle. He lived a pretty simple life, working odd jobs here and there to put food on the table while dabbling in decking. Before too long, he wanted out of the rat race of the average citizen. He had a wife and a daughter, and knew there were risks.

While he was starting up work as an apprentice auto-mechanic, he spent most of his time removing bullet holes from the vehicles of various gang members. Before long he had learned that there was a need for people that could handle themselves with a deck. He had never really been the type of guy to sit around in VR and liked to tamper with stuff on location. Jing had spent enough time trolling around on the Matrix that he had an idea of what life was like in the shadows, and he was competent enough to think it might be a way for him to provide for his family.

It was tough to keep his new career hidden, but he did his best. His son, though young was showing an interest in the matrix as well and decking became a bit of a father-son activity.

A couple of years had passed, and Jing had been relatively successful. There hadn't been too many runs that had gone sideways, and when they had he hadn't taken the fall. However, that all changed. His prowess had been enough to get him noticed, rewarded with an invite to Jackpoint.

He was hired to do a decking job on the Yakuza, and his crew botched the job. They got caught and sold him out. In the following weeks, nothing had changed but one night he returned home to find his apartment's door wide open. Jing's mind was racing as he ran inside. His wife, and his son were both on the floor. Lifeless. Their bodies riddled with bullets, far more than any human could handle. His son's Little Hornet was clutched in his arms, covered in blood.

Jing fell into despair. He spent his days in dark, dank boxes, jacked in to BTL. Nothing mattered to him anymore. He didn't take jobs. Just sat jacked in. Strung out. Useless.  He doesn't know when it happened, or how, but at some point the BTL had permanently altered his brain. He no longer felt fear. He felt anger, sadness, the desire for revenge. And that's what he did.

After doing some snooping on the matrix, Jing found where everyone who had wronged him had gotten off to. Their incompetence ruined his life. One of them had even fallen into the Yakuza's pocket. It didn't take long.

He methodically seeked each one out when they were at their most vulnerable. At the end of a dose of Long Haul. Drunk on their ass, unsure of where they were. Tied up in the back of his van, beaten bloodied and unconscious. It was more than simple revenge. It was a planned execution. To top things off, he knew he had to strike at those that orchestrated the day that ruined his life.

Jing found the hideout of the local Yakuza responsible for the murder of his wife and kid. Using a ramen bar as a front, not too original. He acted as a patron. Friendly, jovial even. He went every day for months.

After a few months of continued patronage. Jing made his move. He snuck into the back and set his bomb. An hour later he left, happily on his way home and triggered the bomb as he was leaving the parking lot. The news on the matrix said that there was no survivors.

One of his few remaining contacts suggested he get out of town, go somewhere else to lay low for a while. Portland was a place ripe with opportunity for a man with such a particular set of skills.

Jing agreed, and was introduced to Huangdi Lu, the leader of the Triad in the area and decided that would be an appropriate avenue to make his name as a decker. So far the grass was greener on the other side, and Jing had met a few people that seemed to be trustworthy. For the first time in quite a while, life was looking bright.

As she became older she joined quite a few bands, though they didn't pan out.

While she was studying music in college, she met a group of like minded individuals and started a band with them. This time was different, and though they were not extraordinary popular, they made enough money for her to consider it her job instead of just a hobby.

Sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bFAlrVpvtBePXKHCzHrjCI9U4P61oxYHjIfXRG9NHxQ/edit#gid=1406401534

As a small child, she was seperated from her Undine caravan as they traveled. She was unable to find any of her tribesmen and nearly succumbed to the elements. A band of mercenaries happened upon her and due to her very human-like appearance took her in. She doesn't have much memory of her younger years and can't recall living with the Undine at all. The leader of the band, Maximilian Eisenburg ended up being her primary care-taker. As she grew up she was exposed to a lot of the ups and downs of the mercenary life, traveling with her new found family and learning the basics of survival. At the age of 12, Lydia discovered an odd power within herself. She wasn't sure how, but she started to form projectiles out of water, even if there wasn't any around. The range wasn't very good, and the bubbles broke easily but it was something that nobody she had seen could do. She wasn't good with a blade, but with this power she thought she might be able to follow in her adoptive father's footsteps. She trained as often as she could and helped hunt wild animals to hone her skills until she was confident in her ability to land solid hits with her water blasts. Lydia also found that she could create water, a boon which her mercenary troop often enjoyed on long journeys. As she came of age, Lydia decided that she had to go out and see more of the world, more than she was afforded to see traveling with her family. She set out to discover all of the different cultures and experiences the world had to offer. Hoping that somewhere along the way she would learn about who, or what she was.

Main Story / Chapter 1.5 - Protect The Sausage! [Takumi]
September 01, 2016, 03:58:39 PM
As Takumi entered Ishikawa Sushi, the establishment was fairly empty, a few obvious Yakuza goons, and a monster of a man sitting at a table piled high with sushi. Honestly, you weren't even sure he was human. Some of the thugs approached you and gave you the good ol' pat down and asked if you were Takumi, you nodded and they motioned you towards the table. The giant man at the table raised his head, a smile showing his teeth, almost as if he was baring his fangs.

You look like a Takumi. Well, you better be cause' you don't look like no rosuke. his smile continued, and a heavy pistol was trained on your chest. We're gonna have a fun time these next couple days assuming you're the right guy!

The night continues on, everyone going about their separate business, rain pounds the pavement and the unfortunate souls that need to get about on foot are scurrying about the streets. Thanks to the storm the night feels eerily quiet, creating a great environment for planning a run. Nobody snooping, nobody shooting, just rain.

Zephyr

The Paper Lantern was about as busy as you would expect, given the weather. A handful of higher class patrons enjoying the company of girls and the flavor of drink. You passed by the bar where a fellow was mixing a drink and he greeted you with a smile and pointed towards the back. You knocked on the door as per usual, and Kyoko signaled to enter. She sat on a sofa, a table with some hors d'oeuvres was laid out between her and another sofa. She motioned for you to sit, and the bartender entered with the drinks he had been mixing, one for you, one for her. You sat on the couch and she finally spoke. "So tell me, Zephyr, what is your plan."

Roland

Information about V&W came to you with surprising ease. They were a company that manufactured various security apparatuses designed primarily for public use. Cameras, scanners, and things along those lines. They had no extraterritoriality, no information in regards to security was present, but it was safe to assume that if nothing else a botch could trigger Lonestar. The building was three stories tall, and had a basement as well. for four floors in total. More specific information was unavailable, but it was a good start. The surrounding buildings were the same height or shorter, and the roads were two way, four lane streets with some offshoots that were simple two lane streets.

a bit later you received a short message from Machiavelli "If you want to take a short trip to check out the area let me know and I'll be on my way."
Sakuya lived a relatively peaceful and happy life as a child. She was always sensitive to the occult, as was much of her family.  Growing up she was fascinated by stories of great detectives, who solved mysteries and helped people. She was an only child, and her village didn't have many children her age, so she often sought to entertain herself. Her constant exposure to her elders caused her to become a quite polite girl. The stories she read helped her entertain herself, but she also enjoyed running through the forests that surrounded her village. She would climb trees, jump on the stones in the river, swim, and explore.

Sakuya took a liking to tracking animals, as a way to hone her "detective" skills. Searching tirelessly for tracks and other signs that an animal had passed through the area. On more than one occasion, she ended up finding a wounded animal and bringing it home to help tend to its wounds. She didn't have any great skills in medicine, but was at least able to dress a wound.

Her father was an exorcist by trade, and would teach Sakuya how to create charms that are supposed to ward away spirits. She would practice calligraphy nearly daily, trying to understand the process that her father had explained to her. Various techniques that were employed to subjugate spirits were taught to her. People with more experience generally took care of problems as they came up, but Sakuya was thankful for the time that she got to spend with her father during her training. In addition, she learned how to throw knives, self defense was a valuable skill. Sakuya hoped that she would not have to turn her blade on a person, but defending her life would come first, if push came to shove.

The years passed by, and Sakuya continued to pick up various skills. She learned how to ride horses, and control all manners of cart-dragging animals as she helped villagers move materials from place to place. She wasn't of much use when it came to the actual building process, but her mother had always told her to help those who need it as much as you are able.

One day, she was following her normal routine in the forests, and noticed a large billow of smoke rising from the village. Sakuya rushed over, leaping over the usual obstacles at a pace she had never experienced.

The sights in the village were horrific. Bodies lay lifeless, blood pooling up in the grass and dirt. She then noticed the source of the smoke. Her home. Her mind was racing, her movements frantic as she approached her house and beared witness to the inferno that was engulfing the only place she had ever truly known. Sakuya entered her home, fearing the worst.

After a few moments inside, she found her mother, her body riddled with blades slumped against the wall, and flames beginning to dance around her clothes. Sakuya's face contorted into an expression filled with anguish, her mouth was open but no sound would come out. The scene before her was out of her control. A pale golden light enveloped Sakuya as ghostly white talismans and charms with purple inscriptions whirled around her body.

Before she even knew what was happening, she had scooped her mother into her arms and leapt out of the house. The fire continued to rage, there was no saving their home. At a safe distance away, Sakuya laid her mother down on the grass. There was no breathing, and no pulse. The light surrounding her faded, and she collapsed beside her mother in a pool of tears.

The next few days passed in a blur, everything felt empty as Sakuya stayed in a spare room at one of the neighbor's homes trying to figure out what to do next. It dawned on her that she could search for those that had taken one of the most important things in her life away from her. She could investigate the violence that had rocked her home. Other villagers had died in the process, though hers was the only house to see the flame. And somehow, she was fundamentally different from the other villagers now.

Whatever had caused that light to appear had made her body lighter and mind sharper. Her eyes had changed, and had turned golden. Her father was out and nobody knew when he would be back. She couldn't rely on others in this matter. She packed together the few possessions she had left, and some of the family's savings that had survived the fire. She left a letter for her father, detailing what had happened and what her plans were going forward. The only clue she had was from a villager who had seen the attackers. They took care to hide their faces, but an insignia of a dagger piercing a blazing sun was present on each of the attackers in some manner.

Sakuya followed the trail as far as she could. It led through many places, but ended in Nexus. The people responsible for stealing her mother were somewhere in this city, but she had no idea where, and the leads seemed to dry up. Refusing to return home until she had completed her goal, Sakuya knew she needed a way to get by. Nexus seemed like the kind of place that may be in need of the services she could provide so she opened up shop dealing in manners of investigation and the occult, sometimes both.

One particular case resulted in a new friend. A meat market that had burned to the ground was rumored to be haunted. A rumor that had gained traction after a large humanoid and a large beast were reported to be roaming around the alleyways in the dark of night. It ended up being a giant man named Muyin, who was a recent arrival to Nexus and didn't have a very solid understanding of city life. Sakuya felt a bit of responsibility for ensuring that he managed to stay safe in the city, but after getting to know him he was a nice guy with a heart of gold.

It was a source of pride for her to help people that didn't have anywhere else to turn and before long she had gained a bit of a reputation for solving various cases. Sakuya ended up with a few employees to help manage all of the different requests she would get, and continued to seek out the group that had destroyed her family.

Looking to start a game in my own setting, very light on rules. Ideally more collaborative than competitive. Trying to avoid anyone breaking the game for their own enjoyment, and would likely actively purge them from the game. Have heard a few people are interested and they may confirm those interests here. If someone is interested in playing, the primary limitation is that you must be traveling with a particular caravan at the start of the game, though the reason can be entirely up to you. More details will  be available upon request as well. Just a short little blurb for now though.

You were new to Xan Academy. You'd heard about the programs available, how it was focused on actually doing what you wanted to do, rather than learning about it in a book. Perfect for your goals. The prestigious academy was located in the beautiful Celadon City, the hustle and bustle of the population and all of the academy students was a bit overwhelming, and you had retired to your dorm room to get a handle on things and finish unpacking. It was the middle of the afternoon, and you had finished unpacking and setting up your room the way you wanted it. As you were sitting down to relax, you heard a knock on the door. Lightly at first. Tap. Tap. Then more forceful. Thud thud thud. You had heard that there was an orientation program, where a student who had been there a while would come to help you out as you got used to the academy, and suspected that might be who was at your door.

As Fayleen searched for her sister, she found herself outdoors. Calling out for Nena, over and over as she wandered around campus, and before she knew it, she was surrounded by Pokemon. Dan had ended up outside as well, wondering what could be riling the Pokemon up like this, was it a fire? Or something else? He looked out across the field, only to see a girl he recognized surrounded by a bunch of Pokemon.

It was then that he saw her. A girl he hadn't seen around too much but seemed to be a Xan Academy student. The pack of Poochyena began to snarl at her as well, her Vulpix following at her heels. These Pokemon had to be stopped.

As an aspiring breeder, it was important to know as much as possible about various types of Pokemon, and you had been studying that during the morning. Despite the stance of the Academy to let students learn from hands on experiences, understanding the proper nutrition for young Pokemon is something that should be known before hand. There was a knocking on the door. a few quiet knocks, followed by a couple of scratching sounds. You always had an interest in history, from the time you were a child. And something about the way that Xan Academy taught it drew you in. Instead of having all of the students sit in a class room, nose in a book, the students here were afforded every opportunity to see many historical sites in person. Reading about them was great, but seeing them in person was better. How each stone was laid, the vastness of the chambers, of the land its on, of the nature surrounding it. After the amount of reading you've done in your life, it would be a nice change of pace to be able to visit all of the places you had read about in person.

The other thing about the Academy, is that new students were always granted a more experienced student to act as a mentor and guide as you adjusted to your new life. The first night in your new dorm went by quietly enough, you got to unpack and spend time playing with your Pokemon, preparing for the next day.

It was fairly early when the rasp on the door came, around 8 AM. You were sure that it would be the person assigned to help you out.

Alexander's first night at Xan Academy had been uneventful, he had been able to unpack his stuff, organize his room, and sort of stumble around campus on his way to get dinner without getting too lost. However, he hadn't really managed to meet anyone. People seemed in a hurry, but it made sense with everything he had heard about the Academy before his arrival. It was a place where hands-on experience was valued over sitting around in class with a book on your desk. It was appealing to your interests, and would give you a great chance to get to learn more about Pokemon.

The next morning, you woke up fairly early, and as you were getting ready for breakfast, you heard a knock on your door. It started as a gentle rasp, and slowly increased to a resounding thud.

[info]I know you've done Roleplaying for years, but would like to try to keep the transfer threads similar, so here we go.

Shadowrun / FWC Karma/Like rewards
January 25, 2016, 09:45:00 PM
Alright you can spend your Like points and Karma (FWC Karma) for rewards in game. The two are the same thing, but something changed with the add-ons/widgets or whatever we call them that made the karma system we were using not compatible with the forums anymore so we have likes now! This list of rewards could change at any time. Feel free to suggest something if you want.

3 likes can be converted to a point of Shadowrun Karma, for character advancement. 30 will get you 11.

3 likes can be used like a point of edge.

1 like can be converted into 1000 nuyen.

More will be added as we think of it.

An average Seattle night, the rain had come rolling in and you had elected to stay in. The pattering of the rain hitting your windows as you spent a quiet evening sipping on some spirits, checking out some trids. The occasional flash of lightning and clap of thunder keeps you on your toes. You live in a fairly nice neighborhood, a well to do apartment in the heart of downtown. But anything's possible in the city. You've run the Shadows before and know that anything can happen, so it's better to be a bit paranoid than completely care free. The rain picked up, wind howled outside your window, blasting through the alleyway between your apartment complex and the next building over.

Bang. Bang. Bang. The sound of knocking echoes through your apartment, it doesn't sound out of place in this storm. But it continues. Bang. Bangbang. Bang. Bangbangbang. You get up and open the door. It's someone you know. Keira Rocheford. A well to do woman. Married. No children. She stood there in a well-made blue dress, that was so wet it was sticking to her skin. Tears rolled down her cheeks, mixed with the rain from the storm. Something was wrong. She was shaken, and still shaking. Either from the cold, or from whatever had happened to her. "Please, Richard, you're the only one I can turn to." Keira stumbled into your apartment, uninvited, collapsing on the floor, sobbing. "Bennett's dead, Richard." She was still sniffling, but had regained a small amount of composure. "Magic had to of been involved. You were his friend, he trusted you. Lonestar isn't going to do anything, they just section off the crime scene to stop people from seeing the body and then twiddle their god damn thumbs while the family waits for answers that will never come." She coughed for a few moments, clearing her throat afterwards and rubbing away some of her tears with her hand. "I trust you too, Richard. I think that you could find the truth of the matter." She reached into her purse and pulled out a small credstick. "I'll pay you. I'll help you hire some help too. But please, Richard, you're the only one who can do this." She handed you the credstick and tried to stand, falling back down to her knees.

Ryine was doing what he did best lately, hunting creatures of the night. He had heard rumours that there were demons cropping up around town, and outside of it, so he grabbed Eclipse and went on the prowl. He was glad that he didn't have to stray too far from town, his adventures often seemed to take far too long, and the guild was his home. The warrior had been at his activities for about a week, thinning the herd of demons and other creatures that would seek to harm those he wanted to protect.

His mission let him meet all sorts of people, high born nobles, low born pickpockets, bastards of great families. The city really was a big place. As the numbers of demons dwindled, their boldness seemed to increase. One night, as evening was falling, the last of the sun disappearing behind the horizon, Ryine was walking back to town, after a couple days of travel. Ahead of him, he heard shouts and steel, and rushed to the scene. A wagon was overturned, a few men lay crushed on the ground, and three Balban were causing chaos amidst the ranks of the dozen or so men that were left standing.

Ryine sprung into action, charging the distance while drawing Eclipse from its sheath and slashing viciously at the calf of one of the giant demons, hoping to bring it down. The demon bellowed in pain, pounding its giant grey chest. It turned towards Ryine, pounding the ground with its massive fists. The man leapt out of the way of the massive fist, ground shattering beneath the force of the blow, and countered with a thrust into the forearm of the creature. Eclipse became lodged in the arm of the beast, as it raised its arm for another slam, Ryine went with it. Dangling nearly twenty feet in the air, Ryine struggled to free Eclipse from the arm of the Balban. As its arms reached their peak, Eclipse pulled free with a sickening fountain of blood following. As he fell, Ryine stabbed into the demon's back with as much force as he could muster, the force of gravity carrying him and his blade to the ground with a solid thud, and the monster being left with a massive wound.

The Balban he had been fighting looked at Ryine, with an expression full of rage, as the man laid on the ground in a heap. It raised its leg and went to stomp on the man. Ryine rolled out of the way, getting to his knees after the foot shook the ground around him. He slashed at the Balban's leg once more, striking true and bringing the monster to its knees. With a shout, he used all the force he could muster to drive Eclipse into the shoulder of the demon, carrying the blade down through its stomach and out near its hip. The Balban fell forward, spraying blood all over Ryine. After it hit the ground, he thrust his blade into its head for good measure, and turned to check how the others were faring. The other two Balban were in fairly decent shape still, a few more of the men had fallen. They were not too far away, so Ryine rushed over to help. With a leap and a ferocious slash, Ryine caught the second Balban unaware. It lurched forward after the force of the blow, and stumbled to the ground, the men around plunged their blades into the fallen demon, ending it with little trouble.
The final demon was crushing the soldiers around him with his massive arms, slamming them into the ground, or picking them up and tossing them aside, only for a sickening thud to be heard in the distance. The dozen had dwindled to five, plus Ryine. The men fanned out around the monster as it swung its arms, hoping to minimize the damage it could do. They took turns approaching the Balban, swinging blades, axes, and hammers. Most of the blows hardly broke the skin of the beast, caution winning over brute force in their approach. Another man was crushed, and Ryine took that opening to slash with all his strength. The Balban turned towards him, and the others took advantage of that opening, four weapons assaulted the vulnerable sides of the demon and it fell, Ryine dove out of the way and all of the men continued to beat it, to ensure its demise.

One of the surviving soldiers ran towards the overturned wagon. "My Lord! Are you alright?" Ryine hadn't even noticed a body wedged under the wagon. A man lay with his legs crushed under the weight of the wagon, yet he had not made any cries of agony. He spoke, with a quiet yet pained tone. "Yes, Isaac, I'm alright. My legs might not be, though." he flashed a weak smile. Ryine approached the survivors. "Let's get this wagon off of him. The five of them lifted the wagon and moved it only a few feet, but it was enough. The man's legs were free, but it was clear they were both broken. He spoke again, this time to Ryine. "Who are you? Why would you risk so much to help strangers on the road?"

I'm Ryine. I'm with the Guild of Galas'nor. Helping people is what we do, and I have a personal reason to fight demons as well." He brandished his giant sword. "And this is Eclipse, my trusty blade. Haven't been together for too long but we've slain a lot of evil." Ryine put the blade back into the sheath. "The men here called you Lord, but who are you?" his lack of courtesy took the soldiers by surprise.

"My name is Taillefer Gilbert. A nobleman, who's life you just saved. Clearly without your assistance, my men and myself would all be dead. You're a brave fighter, and you ought to be rewarded for your valor." The men standing around him looked surprised. "My Lord, surely you can't be serious. This man is no more than a sellsword..." Before the man could even finish his thought, Taillefer Gilbert cut him off. "Saving the life of a noble is sufficient reason to be knighted." He smiled at Ryine. "I ask that you can travel to my keep, in a week's time. We will hold the ceremony there." He was out of his element, but Ryine could hardly refuse the honor. Lord Gilbert, I'm just a common man, never in my life had I dreamed of becoming a Ser." Lord Gilbert would have no arguing, and they made arrangements for Ryine to be knighted.

A week later
http://youtube.com/v/xFxjizGRCY0&autoplay=1
Ryine had traveled to Lord Gilbert's keep as requested, to be knighted. He was out of his element and unsure how to handle the situation. He was wearing his best clothes, and a bit nervous as he waited for the ceremony to start. He heard a voice inside his head. "I do all of the work and you're the one that gets the honor? Well, I'm nice so I don't mind helping. I can't swing myself at any rate. You sure seem hopeless outside of combat, it's painful." the voice laughed inside his head, as Ryine sat there, far more perplexed than usual. He looked around, he was alone in the room. Surely it must be some sort of trick. Ryine called out. "Who goes there?!" The laughing continued. "On your back, you idiot. You might have dressed in your sunday best, but you still brought me." Ryine reached back shocked, and pulled Eclipse out of the sheath. "Eclipse... You can talk?"

"Sure can! I probably know more words than you too! I can help you not make a fool of yourself during the ceremony, you know, tell you what to say and all you need to do is repeat it." Before Ryine could respond, an attendant entered the room. "The ceremony is about to start, please come this way." Ryine followed the attendant out towards the hall. It was packed with people, most of them not familar. At the end of the massive room, Lord Gilbert sat on a throne, the surviving guards from the encounter with the Balbons attending to him.

He walked down the path of scarlet carpet that had been laid on the stone floor, each step making him more nervous than the last. After a minute or two, he arrived in front of the throne, and stood there looking like an oaf. A voice in his head. "Kneel you fool!" Ryine did as he was instructed, kneeling and lowering his head. A booming voice spoke from the throne. "Ryine Schaefer! For your honour and valor against the servants of Chaos and Evil, and slaying three Balbon demons, I give you the only reward I am able. I name you Ser Ryine Schaefer." The voice in his head. Okay now say "Thank you my Lord, for bestowing this honor on a man as simple as I." Ryine followed orders. "Thank you my Lord, for bestowing this honor on a man as simple as I."

Lord Gilbert accepted his blade from one of the men attending him and proceeded to tap Ryine on each shoulder. "It is done. Next, we shall have a feast in your honor!" Before Eclipse could even begin to speak, Ryine was overcome by excitement. "A FEAST YOU SAY? MY LORD, I THANK YOU! WHERE CAN I GO TO EAT??" In his head.Ryine could hear Eclipse mocking him. "By the Gods, how can you be so simple? Can you not hold your composure for a few second after the mere mention of food? I can't believe you're my master. The hall went quiet, as the onlookers stared at Ryine in shock. Lord Gilbert simply laughed. Well, you won't have to go far, Ser Schaefer."

With that, he clapped, and trays of food began to be carried in by a large number of servants. They escorted Ryine to the table that Lord Gilbert was eating at, and he was given a seat of honor. High born people came and went, while Ryine shoveled as much food as he could into his mouth, some seemed to wonder if his mouth was going to unhinge itself. This is your big chance Ryine, to mingle with some Lords and Ladies, and here you are quiet as can be, doing nothing but eating." Ryine did his best to ignore Eclipse, and continued to eat, making comments to the nobles around him when he found it appropriate, which was rare. He was a simple man and didn't care for the intrigue of political affairs. The food was great, no doubt, but he yearned the company of some of his own. He was all smiles to everyone at the table, and made sure to compliment the taste of each dish, but that was about the extent of what he felt comfortable with.

Ryine burst into Katrias' store, much in his usual fashion. He was holding up a small metallic cube, He had a smile on his face, as usual. "Katrias!! I HAVE A MAGICAL ITEM AND YOU DEAL WITH MAGICAL ITEMS. CAN YOU HELP ME FIGURE OUT WHAT IT IS?" He once again, had no respect for what would be considered common courtesy, and never even bothered to look of Katrias had another customer in the shop. As far as Ryine was concerned, a magical item was just another word for something he didn't understand. Katrias always seemed to help him learn a thing or two, so he figured this wasn't any different. As he got up to the counter, he delicately set the small cube down, curious what it could possibly be.

Nobles / Character Creation.
December 08, 2015, 07:20:18 PM
Going to go by the book on this one (mostly) The character creation stuff starts on page 114 of the PDF. If you don't have it. Yell at me in the shoutbox or send me a PM. I'm new to the system as well and will be creating a character later to get the hang of it to offer out help as needed.

Pick two of the keys in the character creation section.

You have 25 character points to spend. Attributes can go up to 5, at a cost of 3 per point. You can upgrade your total number of Miracle Points for 1 CP a pop. Please don't go out of control with this. You can use your CP to buy gifts, which are basically powers like flight, or immortality. You can spend 1 character point to get 5 additional skill points, and you start with 8 skill points. You probably won't need to spend too many here.

We will be working together to figure out exactly what we want for our Imperators. For those that don't wish to create their own, they can join under another player's. Ideally I would like it if we were not in a bunch of camps directly opposed to each other, because there will be problems that we work together to solve.

Will update thread as I go through the process of character creation myself.

Roleplays / [Interest Check] Nobilis.
December 07, 2015, 11:46:39 PM
Nobilis is a diceless system that is heavily focused on social interaction. Which sounds perfect for a forum. I have never played the system. If there is enough interest, I will buy the PDFs. Wiki is here: http://nobilis.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

So what am I looking for to get started? A few players at least, I know a guy that will play if this takes off. Maybe two or three guys that will play if it takes off! Two of them would be new to the forum, the other would be Ronin if I rope him in. Ideally everyone would be somewhat diverse in their character choices, but I think it would also be alright/interesting if people overlapped a bit. If someone is interested but feels like controlling everything would be too much effort/time,  you could pair up to have one person be the noble, and the other take control of the interactions of the anchors and other characters related to that particular noble.

I'd also appreciate if someone would be interested in being a secondary Hollyhock God (Game Master) so that I could also play a character that you could resolve shenanigans for/collaborate with on other things going on within the game.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

It was a strange sight in Ternadan, the first frosts of winter were approaching, townsfolk could be seen bundled up in their furs and wearing layers of clothes, in hopes of warding off the chilling bite of the frosted air. A lone man charged through the streets, a sword on his back that was far too large, armor that ill suited the safety of the city, packs overflowing with supplies. How he could carry it all, a man could scarcely guess. Yet, not only was the man carrying far too much, and looking extraordinarily out of place, he was also babbling incoherently.

TURKEY. TURKEYS? IS THE GUILD SAFE? TURKEYS!

Ryine charged through town, huffing and puffing, exhausted from all of the gear he was carrying. He knew that the Feast of Thanks was fast approaching, and that was the most dangerous time of year for the Guild of Galas'nor. For as long has he could remember, which is admittedly not more than a few years, a massive army of turkey had invaded the sacred Guild. Each year they came out on top, and had a massive celebration in which the entirety of the city was invited, not that they could all fit within the halls, or had the desire to come. It was a night of merrymaking, and of being thankful for all of the wonderful comrades, peculiar they may be, that he had found at Galas'nor.

As he continued to barrel down the street, mothers were pulling their children in doors and closing the shutters on the windows, men were pointing and laughing, but Ryine ignored them. They didn't understand the threat that was at hand. They didn't know that Galas'nor was the only thing protecting the fair city from ruin at the hands of a tumultuous troop of treacherous turkey. If Galas'nor fell, on the eve of the Feast of Thanks, the turkey would be eating the citizens, not the other way around.

Ryine arrived at the Guild, and smashed through the front doors into the main hall, he collapsed on the ground. Looking around in a daze, he was shouting. "Where are the turkey? Is the Guild safe?" He rose to his feet, drawing the giant sword from his back, the metal glimmering. With a wild look in his eyes, Ryine shouted once more. "WHERE ARE THE TURKEY?"

Mission Board (IC) / [Open]A Missing Heirloom
May 31, 2015, 01:38:11 PM
It was another day of business as usual at the Guild of Galas'nor. The jovial atmosphere that could infect just about anyone ever present. As the members seemed to be celebrating for no reason other than to celebrate, a somber presence washed over the Guild. A well dressed woman walked into the Guild, with an attendant. After looking around a few moments, she walked over towards the mission board with grace, and tacked up a document before turning around and leaving as swiftly as she had come.

Quote
A Missing Heirloom

A family heirloom that has been passed down in the Whitfield house for as many generations as anyone can remember has been stolen from our estate. We have reason to believe that whoever has taken this has a hideout somewhere outside of town. This issue feels out of scope of the guard, so we have come to the Guild of Galas'nor for help. Please come to the Whitfield estate and speak to Ms. Caroline Whitfield for further information.

[info]
Goal: Go on an adventure to find the stolen heirloom.
Players: 4-6 (One spot almost certainly going to Ronin if he wants to play since he's not in any missions)

Completetion reward: (subject to change)
700 gold pieces per person
600 exp per person.

Style: Dungeon crawl, light RP, Traps and Combat.

Family History

The history of the house of Ravenhorst is shorter than that of many other noble families. To start from the beginning, we must look to another family entirely. The Prescott family, they had a fairly sizable estate among the vast plains, primarily amassing wealth from the vineyards they owned. However, the family ran into a problem. The head of the household, Graham Prescott only had daughters. Three of them, in fact. They each married a man from a different family. One day, while traveling, Graham was attacked by a group of brigands and killed. With no rightful heir, the three husbands of the three daughters fought for the Prescott family's holdings. Through a series of rather brutal encounters, one of the men, Kyne Ravenhorst came out on top. Upon taking control of the Prescott family, the first thing that Kyne did was change the estate's name to Ravenhorst, he was not a Prescott. A white and red checkered background with a raven in the foreground, the Ravenhorst house's coat of arms, was now plastered onto the goods that they sold. (lozengy argent and gules, and a sable raven volant with wings addorsed and elevated) The message was clear; the Prescott family was no more.

Kyne had three children, Erich, the eldest son, Fitz, the middle child who died of illness while he was young, and the youngest, a daughter named Lily. Lily married into the Eisenburg family, a well to do family with some small holdings near Goldthrone. Erich married a woman named Kenna from the surrounding area, and continued the Ravenhorst family line.

On the Ravenhorst side of the family, Erich had two sons. His eldest, Geron, and his younger Malik. Malik was 15 years or so younger. Geron studied hard to learn as much as he could about the process of making wine, trying to innovate new methods, and figure out better ways to transport his goods to see them reaching further across the empire. Malik, his brother was more of the sellsword type, but they always worked together. When Geron had to go out of town, you could see Malik right by his side, defending him from threats unknown. They were close. Malik understood that he had no place being the head of a house, he didn't know the first thing about being a noble. He just knew how to fight, and protect what he cared about.

Geron married and had two children, Vikel, a son, and Clarissa, a daughter, while Malik married a local girl named Ruby, and has a son Gerrad.

Garrin's History/Some family affairs.

Garrin is the son of Clairissa, a lady of the noble house of Ravenhorst. Being born into a noble family is generally a blessing, But in Garrin's case it was a birth surrounded by scandal. His mother was young, and unmarried. Garrin's father was a wandering Elvish minstrel, who gave a different name in every town. Young Clairissa was drawn in by the man's charms. His poetry, his song. Before she knew it, he had vanished, and Garrin was on his way into the world. Her father, Geron Ravenhorst was less than pleased with the situation, but still looked upon his daughter with love. Garrin was named after his grandfather, and Geron dotted on the young boy as any grandfather would. Geron's son, and Clairissa's older brother Vikel looked upon the situation with nothing but disgust. As far as he was concerned, his family had been tainted. The blood of an elf ran through his nephew's veins. Even worse, his father approved. Garrin was treated like one of the family, and afforded every opportunity to pursue things that interested him as a small child, as limited as they may be.

The "Tainted Blood Incident" runs two fold. Vikel's wife Mirabelle took her own life five years after Garrin was born, she was carrying a child at the time of her suicide. The common sentiment is that the child was not Vikel's, they had been married a long time but had yet to produce a child. Word floating around is that Vikel was impotent, so they all figured that Mirabelle was not a faithful wife. Her suicide drove Vikel to the depths of despair. He was unsure of what to do, and Geron's actions towards the "traitor" Clarissa, and the "impure" Garrin drove Vikel mad.

Two years to the day after the death of his wife, Geron dropped dead after a night of drinking, and the following morning Vikel claimed the title as head of the Ravenhorst house. His first order of business was kicking Clarissa and her spawn out of the family estate. She was a traitor, and her child impure. Neither deserved to represent the Ravenhorst family name. The body was never examined, but rumor has it that Geron was poisoned.

During this time, Malik had moved off of the estate grounds, just being there when Geron needed him. He had his own small house with Ruby, and his first child Gerrad had just entered the world. The news of his brother's death hit him hard, and Malik was unsure of what to do. He did know however, that he did not desire the leadership of the house for himself. Thus, he began plotting, thinking of a way that Gerrad could take over the Ravenhorst house.

Several years later, Garrin began to train with a blade. Only twelve years of age, but he had to figure out some way to earn money. He didn't get much in the way of formal education, but he did have a sense of wit about him. By the age of 14, Garrin could handle himself in a fight against people larger than he. He didn't do anything fancy, but he had clearly paid attention to his training. As the years passed, he would go and help those who were in need of a sword. Otherwise he was a simple day laborer, doing what he could to ease the burden he had placed on his mother.

Around the time that Garrin turned twenty, his mother received an offer from Fredrich and Rachelle Eisenburg, some distant family members, that had heard after all of these years the actions that Vikel had taken and asked if she and her son would like to come to the capital. Though their quarters may leave something to be desired, family was family, and they could not bear to see Clairissa left out in the cold all that time. They accepted the offer, and went off to Goldthrone. Once arriving at Goldthrone, Garrin became a city guard. It wasn't exactly a glorious position, but it was something that worked for him. He continued upon that mundane path for several years. Living without complaint, doing what he was asked to do and defending the town, the surrounding area, and its people during their times of need.

However, when he was twenty six, he found a curious little hole in the wall called the "Wolverine Den" run by a rather jovial halfling who always had a story to tell. How much of it was true, nobody could say but the man could spin a great tale. It was a place that Garrin would frequent, during his time off. The brew was cheap and the stories were always a great time. The halfling could prattle on for hours and hours, but never once did his stories become dull. He'd notice when patrons were down, and try to cheer them up. One such moment changed Garrin's life. He had been wondering if he should really be content with being a guard all of his life. Even if it was in name only, he was a member of a noble house. Perhaps he should try to do something greater. He confessed his worries to the barkeep, who listened intently. After hearing Garrin's worries, with a twinkle in his clouded eyes, he pointed skyward with a single finger, speaking in his normal, happy tone. "When you don't know what to do, just know that the Golden Gods can help you work everything out. It's what worked for me." The halfing then let out a hearty laugh, but what he said was true.

Garrin began to work closely with a shrine dedicated to Iomedae, The Light of the Sword during his free time and continued on his path of being a guard. More often than not, he found himself being put in charge of a small group of young blood, eager to do what they could to help their home. He would often be sent to the outlying areas to protect the smaller villages from things they could not handle themselves, whether it was the wildlife encroaching a bit too far into human lands, a band of brigands, or a roving group of goblins that had somehow evaded decimation, Garrin was there.

Unbeknownst to Garrin, he was being watched. The Inquisition had been keeping their eyes on him as he rose from your every day city guard to a man that could lead a group of bright eyed teens into a battle against whatever threat may come their way, and see everyone out to the other side. It seemed almost as if he had some sort of divine power, a potential that was untapped. Truth be told, the Inquisition had seen better days, they were quickly becoming short staffed and it was difficult to just recruit people off of the streets. It took a certain type of individual to do the type of work that the Inquisition was accustomed to.

In time, those in the Inquisition came knocking on Garrin's door. They knew what he had done, and believed he was capable of much more. He was approached by a few men and asked if he could assist them with a task in the service of Iomedae. It wasn't more than a day's ride from Goldthrone, so Garrin agreed. After they left town, it was revealed that an unsanctioned mage was practicing the dark arts. The orders were to force the mage to cease his magical activity by any means necessary. To Garrin, this was a chance to improve his life. To live up to his noble origins.

Garrin waited outside as the actual Inquisition members attempted to subdue the mage, peeking in from time to time. The mage refused to comply and managed to slip by as the other members tried to encircle him. A little grease goes a long way. As the mage bolted out through the doorway, Garrin was ready. Without mercy, he ran the mage through. The mage collapsed as soon as the blow hit him and Garrin watched as he bled out.

When the group went back to Goldthrone, Garrin was taken to the Inquisitors HQ. He accepted their offer to join and became somewhat of a "yes man" he followed orders, even if he wasn't sure that they were the right decisions. He never voiced his concerns, and did what needed to be done. It would let him go places in the world, make a name for himself.

Over the years he has been involved with the Inquisition, Garrin has seen his fair share of horror. He had ended the lives of many, either by the sword or through imprisonment for crimes that they may or may not have committed. He followed orders without regard to his own feelings on the matter.

Hersey Plot (Currently ongoing, not entirely related to GoG but something I like.)

With the banishment of Clarissa and Garrin, and the suicide of his wife, Vikel was left without an heir, a position that was quite vulnerable. If he were to meet an untimely end, or become otherwise incapable of running the house, rule would fall to Malik's side of the family. Vikel wasn't getting any younger, and was rather troubled by his lack of an heir. He went around sleeping with whoever was willing, in a desperate attempt to father a son. As long as it was an heir that had his own blood, it didn't matter who the mother was as long as she was human.

With his eyes turned away from the state of his estate, it was the perfect opening for Gerrod. He had heard that Garrin had become a member of the Inqusition, so he quickly went to work building a hidden shrine on the grounds of the Ravenhorst manor. It was a slow process, that is taking place over time and is not yet complete. The shrine being built in secret is for Gormurg, the Blood Drinker. When the time is right, Gerrod will report this heresy to the church, and hope that Garrin is dispatched to deal with what has happened. A fitting end to the man that had forsaken his own family. Gerrod would be on hand to sweep in and scoop up the title of Lord of Ravenhorst, of course. This plot that is underway is not known by Garrin.

The Iron Tempest (currently Ongoing)

On the other side of the family, Maximilian Eisenburg has founded a mercenary guild called The Iron Tempest. His motivations in doing so, was that he was not the heir to anything, and wanted to perhaps see a bit more of the world with companions in tow. Perhaps with some acts of derring-do to have some stories to tell at the local pubs. Currently the members are:

 • Maximilian Eisenburg (founder, leader)
 • Cedrick Eisenburg
 • Johnathan Hart
 • Cordelia Hart
 • Samuel Hart

Essentially, all of the members of their side of the family that don't have anything to inherit, so they are a little more free than their siblings that are stuck learning the in and out of the family business.

The Iron Tempest runs on two primary rules:

 • Don't do jobs that will tarnish the name of the family, and the guild
 • Don't kill in cold blood

They are pretty straight forward and easy to follow. Of course any group that fights is bound to run into a few situations where they have to kill other people, but those people will tend to be villainous, rather than an upstanding citizen.

Events leading to Garrin entering the Guild of Galas'nor

Tragedy struck. The temple that Garrin had been working so closely with had drawn the wrath of many. They were strict, and had little tolerance for hersey. One stormy night, the temple was ransacked. Everyone inside was murdered, the temple itself burned to the ground, all valuables missing or destroyed.

Garrin was devastated. The place he had felt the most valuable at had been stripped from him, and he felt as if it was his fault. His reputation preceded him, and he was perhaps the most hated Inquisitor around. Garrin had put away or killed many heretics, and constantly received threats against his person. He generally ignored them and went about his business, he was a fairly cautious man in general.

He was extended an offer from his relatives to join the Iron Tempest, but he rejected it. He didn't want to bring unnecessary danger into their lives, they already faced enough from the threats they were employed to deal with. They didn't need any unwanted attention. It was something regretful, but Garrin knew in the end it was not the right choice to stay. He had enjoyed many years of the occasional adventure with his family, and hearing about what they were doing when he was off on business with the Inquisition. However, it was time for him to carve a new path. One that didn't call danger down upon his friends, family, and citizens who happened to be in the line of fire.

Garrin set his sights on a foreign land. He had heard rumors of a group of people that were all quite strong, and known for their easy going attitude. His enemies would be unlikely to find him in such a distant location, and those he knew in Goldthrone would be safe. All he knew was that they hailed from a city called Ternadan.  He went around town, giving his farewells to various people. Osco, the halfling that had led him down this path to begin with, the guards he had worked with, and his family members. He promised Maximilian that he would stay in touch, the letters may take time to travel but would get there eventually.

After taking care of the affairs that needed to be attended to, Garrin booked passage on a ship to travel to Ternadan. A bustling city, rumored to house one of the most powerful adventuring guilds. As the boat left the harbor, Garrin looked longingly back at the city that had served as his home for a good portion of his life. "Farewell, Goldthrone. Perhaps I shall lay my eyes upon you once more in the future."

Being from a distant land, Garrin was unsure where to start. It didn't take long for him to find his lead though. He asked a group of people in a bar if they knew where he could find a famous adventuring guild, and they all laughed. "Of course we do. The Guild of Galas'nor is always making a ruckus of some sort in town. If you look, you will find them." Surely, a man with talents like himself could find a way to fit in. There would have to be tasks that he was well suited for, so he continued his search. It didn't take long to come into contact with the Guild.

After a small amount of conversation, and some obligatory paperwork, Garrin was approved. He had the Guild's emblem emblazoned on his breastplate, and settled into his new room. It wasn't much, but it was comfortable, and functional. The two things he desired most in his own quarters. The air around the Guild was quite unfamiliar to him. Instead of the depressing, somber atmosphere that usually surrounded all matters relating to the Inquisition, the Guild seemed to be so full of life. Always having fun, people always smiling, being friendly, eating, drinking, celebrating, even when there was no cause for celebration. Every single day at the Guild of Galas'nor felt like a holiday, and soon that spirit began to infect Garrin as well. He became relaxed, and enjoyed every day. He was still a serious customer when it came to his job, it would be foolish to let his guard down in combat after all. But in his day to day life, he was much more jovial, still showing his serious streak from time to time.

A few weeks had passed since Garrin had joined the Guild, and the atmosphere was starting to feel normal. There seemed to always be someone up to something, and they were more than willing to talk about whatever was going on. As a stranger in an even stranger land, Garrin really appreciated the willingness of the other members of the Guild to show him around town, and help him feel at home. He hoped that someday there would be a person newer than he to show the ropes, or find some other way to repay the kindness that everyone had shown for a complete outsider. He did not expect people to be some welcoming, especially considering the environment where he had come from. Even the most loyal of Inquisitors were always under the watchful eye of someone else and slight missteps could end careers. He started to wonder how he put up with his old life for so many years. And how others could manage to stay, and try to rebuild after everything that had happened. His end goal had not changed, but his path to acquiring it certainly felt like it had undergone tremendous change.

Due to his nature, Garrin prefers any sort of job that is investigative in nature, or has some sort of mystery to solve. A simple hack and slash, while something he is proficient at is something that he feels is best left to other people. He did expect to need to fight, and trained daily to keep his skills sharp, after all most tasks that go beyond the guard to an adventuring guild tend to be dangerous in some aspect. He knew that much from the stories from the Iron Tempest and the few missions he had gone on with them. He looked forward to his first adventures with his new companions.

At the present time, his aspirations are to gain enough power to build his own landed branch of the Ravenhorst family, reclaiming the name that had been stolen from him as a child for nothing that was the fault of his own. And to continue to do as much as he can to provide support in any mission that the Guild of Galas'nor undertakes while upholding his personal beliefs and keeping an eye out for any obvious hersey. Such as the outright worship of evil Gods, destruction of church related properties, and dark magic rituals.

TL:DR - Ronin, read a book!

A one room apartment among many in Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood. It's a nice place to live, isn't too quiet, and people leave you alone. The interior of the apartment is simple enough. A couch, a tv, a dining table with a couple chairs, and a computer. A full kitchen, with smooth-tiled counter tops, and a nice new stove. A full bathroom. A simple bedroom consisting of a fold-out bed, a nightstand, and a walk in closet with a dresser inside. Under the bed, various magic symbols are etched into the floor.

Ryine was determined to have a nice showing in the scavenger hunt. He looked over the list, and noticed that one thing stood out. A fine bottle of Absinthe, and he knew just where to look. He rushed over to Katrias' spot in the guild hall.

"Oh, Katrias! I'm doing something for a scavenger hunt and I think you'll be able to help!" Ryine was quite boisterous has he went barging into the guild hall. He waved the sheet of paper he was holding wildly before slamming it down on the table. "See, look. Right here!" One section of the sheet was heavily underlined, as if upon looking at it Ryine had some sort of epiphany.

"ABSINTHE"

Katrias shot Ryine a disgusted glare, as he stood there grinning ear to ear.

Masters and Servants / [Lancer] Jangar Khan
May 25, 2015, 03:13:19 PM
Appearance:

Similar to this, though a bit smaller. Large for a child, smaller than the average adult. dressed in traditional clothing, with a suit of laminate armor (Think samurai style altered slightly.) Seems to be well built for his size and is far stronger than he appears. Has his spear (Aram) and a deep red steed that he can summon at will (Aranjagaan).

Personality:
Cocky, confident in his ability to do just about any task. Feels like he is invincible. Likes to claim that he will conquer the world. Does not like being treated like a child, due to the fact that he is a Khan. Tends to lose his temper and act rashly in most cases where someone does talk down to him like he is a kid, or treats him in a manner that he considers fit for a child. On the battlefield, he feels like he is larger than life, and is generally calm regardless of what he faces.

Legend/Bio:

Jangar was orphaned as a baby, his father put him on Aranjagaan, the fastest steed they had and left with him Aram, the spear that had been passed down through the family for generations. He was found in a cave, crying by a man named Mengen Xigxirge. He decided that the boy should be called Jangar, Jangar said that he agreed, and that he would someday conquer the world. Instead of saving the  boy, Xigxirge was terrified and leaving him with food and water, went on his way.

Jangar lived on his own in the wild, the animals his family, friends, and teachers. Each of the beasts taught him a different skill. At the age of 3, Jangar went back to his family's traditional home. He fought through three enemy strongholds on the way back, and killed the demon that had taken over the throne. He became the Khan of Bomba, and the nation flourished. By the age of five, he had quintupled the size of Bomba's territory.
