Title: [Jornathel] Challenge Ladder
Post by: Throndir on June 05, 2016, 06:47:31 PM
Entering the arena, you notice that there were hardly any audience at all. In fact the announcer, or what could be considered the referee simply just waved you on by. It wasn't of any surprise, this opening round was easily accomplish-able from what you have heard from others. But soon enough you see your opponent on the other side. It was some sort of cat, slightly larger than a house cat, and made you think of the jungle cats further down south of southern Yslia.

Each competitor, as well as beast or opponent were given an attached with a badge that would simply whisk them away, so in that sense, there wasn't any permanent physical harm that would come to the competitors.

Jornathel and Sytheer entered the area. It had been quite a while since last they had stepped foot into such a place. If he could recall it was likely the clash with the turkeys. Jornathel was dressed in his typical traveler attire as he often disguised the mithral shirt as simple traveler's clothes. His pale skin contrasted the brown and black clothing, giving off a ghostly like appearance. His long white hair stretched behind his back wrapped into a tail threaded with simple black leather. Adorned atop his head was strange headdress of large colorful feathers. Strapped to his side was a thin curved blade reminiscent of scimitar though quite smaller in blade size.

Beside Jornathel stood a beautiful alabaster feline that was easily over 5 foot in length. The beast's head came very close to Jorn's hip, so that his hand could easily rest upon her head.

With his other hand held high, Jorn waves to the crowd delivering his best and brightest smile.

With a booming shout: "Welcome citizens may you enjoy the shows that are to come, I hope that we do not disappoint."

Utilizing their telepathic link:
[spoiler]Sytheer my friend, could you possibly converse with the young feline before us and as that it step down as to not incur any harm.[/spoiler]

You heard back a response from your familiar, as Sytheer stood by your side ready for action as the small creature ahead began sprinting towards you.

The feline's mind... it's clouded. Filled with nothing but anger and hatred. It seems those emotions are towards us.

It may have a simple mind, yet still I do not approve of what the organizers have done.

After receiving the difficult news from his companion Jorn simply sighed. Why must we be pitted against creatures who  are pressed against their will. This could have been a goblin or some other ragtag creature. But instead they had chosen a beautiful feline to be mauled and marred. Well if it must come to blows better for it to be quick and as painless as possible.

"I do apologize my friend, but we have agreed to the terms. Do remind me that we should speak with the organizers once this is all over with."

He then whispers as his hands begin to move and shape, "Lady Dehainine protect this poor creature, may it find unconsciousness swiftly."

Both you and your companion exploded into action. Motes of light appeared around your fingertips, and as you completely your spell the three balls of magical energy flew straight towards the running cat.

Sytheer too took a step forward, preparing to attack if the other feline came too close.

The magical blow was heavy, but the smaller cat continued its advance, aiming towards Sytheer who was the closer target. The feline managed to bite down on Sytheer's neck, and landing a claw.

[error]Sytheer takes 7 damage[/error]It was shaken off shortly after though, as Sytheer raked it with its claws.

It only took a single swipe form the originally injured cat, and soon enough a flash of light exploded causing you to cover your eyes slightly. The gone was gone, teleported out of the arena.

An hour later, as the next round was prepared, you see in the distance what looked to be a robed figure, covered from brownish-black clothing. He held a dagger in his hands and he took a stance that brought it forward and up close. But what struck you the most was the darkness that seemed to envelop him and up to about 20 ft. radius around him. It made the otherwise day's light become muddled and subdued. Apart from that, it was still too far to get any more details, and the darkness around him only made it harder.

Jorn took a quick breath looked down at his companion and strode forth back onto the arena floor. It was strange to come out here and toss his hat into the mix for sport. Too often the elf could feel his life pulled by the whimsy of his tail. Sytheer, scold him for his jovial thoughts at first but then his companion began to sneer a slight smile across his dangerous features. Life was too grand to not enjoy it no matter the stage.

Jorn cupped his hands and bellowed, "Fellow friends and countrymen, let us feast on the air of fury and be enshrouded with the praise of glory! You shall be entertained!"

This opponent was indeed different. There was something off about his ability to move in the darkness. It was reminiscent of his distant kin from deep below.

The slightly larger crowd as compared to the first match cheered. Though not as enthusiastically as you would have hoped. It was expected however, as this was just the second match, most adventurers were able to get through this one without much trouble.

You felt Sytheer reach out to you telepathically as the large familiar proceeded to ask you if you had any plans of attack.

The elf was known for his experience and fighting in the dark was a feat that he could indeed manage. But he had a better thought. Why get wrapped within darkness. He would be better served if he simply directed his power at the target and slayed it before it closed into range.

Together as one, both you and Sytheer unleashed the spray of magical missiles at the still rushing form. Each of the bolts hit their mark. The opponent never even made it half way towards you before a flash of light took it away into safety.

The crowd cheered. It was certainly one of the faster match ups they've seen.

An hour later, the arena opened up again, this time as the dust settled you see 115 ft. away a mound of something green. It looked like some sort of green slime, and you can clearly see the creature pulsating and dripping. It seemed to be agitated as its slime continued to reach forth in successive bursts like spasms.

When they returned to the arena neither companion was prepared for the strange creature that awaited them. It was for lack of a better term, disgusting. There is no way that I plan to taint my blade with the body of that foul creature.

Sytheer simply nodded in agreement.

Jorn shouted as loud as he could muster "Are you ready to see this "thing" ripped to shreds with arcane fury!! I hope you brought a towel lest you get messy!"

The crowd roared in approval. There was much more people in this match than the previous one. Likely rumors of your exploits from the previous rounds attracted them. None the less, the crowd wanted to see blood, specifically the slime's, and they couldn't hold back their excitement.

As you considered the slime at the opposite end of the arena, you knew they came in all sorts of shapes and sizes, but for this particular one, you could not identify it.

But you didn't have much time to ponder on it however, as it used the opportunity to rush headlong towards you, moving surprisingly fast. You had to act quick, as it already took the initiative to head towards you.

Jorn had very little time to react. This was a foe that was capable of getting up close and personal very quickly. He sprang into action preparing his defenses swiftly his hands moving through the arcane symbols without thinking about his actions. Once the barrier was in place he reacted with his favored offensive spell.

Sytheer did the same not hesitating to take the foe head on. Sytheer too enacted her offensive spell, barraging the target with missiles of magical energy. Would attempt to move during these actions placing the fiend between the two companions allowing them to flank this strange beast.

To the surprise of the onlooking crowd, you quickly cast a spell on yourself, and shortly after that, both you and Sytheer another barrage of magic missiles. The slime creature then attempted to take that attack of opportunity, but it swung completely out of the way as it landed to your side. It left you open, but instead of quickly striking, it attempted to leap on you again, trying to engulf you.

Jorn was not prepared for the reactionary ability of this thing which rivaled his own ability to move. He wasted not time in responding to the creature appearing to hesitate. It had attempted to cover him in a wave of its own mass but had erred in the young elf's ability to move.

After Jorn was able to regain his footing he wasted no time in preparing a follow up attack. The first two strikes had been swift with nimble reaction. He quickly passed his other hand along the blade invoking a piece of natural magical power, which gave the blade a faint white glow. And followed with a powerful attack attempting to cleave the creature in two.

[spoiler]
Casting Blink

Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
Range personal
Target you
Duration 1 round/level (D)
You "blink" quickly back and forth between the Material Plane and the Ethereal Plane and look as though you're winking in and out of reality at random. Blink has several effects, as follows.
Physical attacks against you have a 50% miss chance, and the Blind-Fight feat doesn't help opponents, since you're ethereal and not merely invisible. If the attack is capable of striking ethereal creatures, the miss chance is only 20% (for concealment).
If the attacker can see invisible creatures, the miss chance is also only 20%. (For an attacker who can both see and strike ethereal creatures, there is no miss chance.) Likewise, your own attacks have a 20% miss chance, since you sometimes go ethereal just as you are about to strike.
Any individually targeted spell has a 50% chance to fail against you while you're blinking unless your attacker can target invisible, ethereal creatures. Your own spells have a 20% chance to activate just as you go ethereal, in which case they typically do not affect the Material Plane (but they might affect targets on the Ethereal Plane).

[info]Not seeing how you are getting a 2nd AoO, can you confirm? Deadly Agility below should be about adding your DEX modifier to damage done with light weapons/finessable weapons.

Deadly Agility (Combat)

You have learned how to use your agility to greater purpose in battle.

Prerequisite(s): Weapon Finesse, base attack bonus +1.

Benefit(s): You may add your Dexterity modifier in place of your Strength modifier when wielding a light weapon or a weapon that gains the benefits of the Weapon Finesse feat (such as the rapier) when determining additional damage inflicted upon a successful attack.

This modifier to damage is not increased for two-handed weapons, but is not reduced for off-hand weapons.[/info]

Sorry I referenced the wrong feat, it should have been Elven Battle Training.

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/racial-feats/elven-battle-training-combat-elf
Quote
You have been specially trained to wield a variety of traditional elven weapons.

Prerequisites: Base attack bonus +1, elf.

Benefit: You have received special training with traditional elven weapons (longbows, composite longbows, longswords, rapiers, shortbows, composite shortbows, and any weapon with the word "elven" in its name). You receive a +2 bonus to your CMD against disarm and sunder maneuvers directed at one of these weapons you are wielding.

In addition, if you are wielding one of these melee weapons, you may make an additional attack of opportunity each round (this bonus stacks with Combat Reflexes).
Title: Re: [Jornathel] Challenge Ladder
Post by: Throndir on June 08, 2016, 02:14:53 PM
[info]Ahh, this actually is for enabling more than 1 AoO, like Combat Reflexes, unfortunately, only one AoO is provoked in this instance. You would get your additional AoO on a single round, if the creature did another action which would provoke it, or if, say, another enemy provokes it.

Making an Attack of Opportunity

An attack of opportunity is a single melee attack, and most characters can only make one per round. You don't have to make an attack of opportunity if you don't want to. You make your attack of opportunity at your normal attack bonus, even if you've already attacked in the round.

An attack of opportunity "interrupts" the normal flow of actions in the round. If an attack of opportunity is provoked, immediately resolve the attack of opportunity, then continue with the next character's turn (or complete the current turn, if the attack of opportunity was provoked in the midst of a character's turn).

Combat Reflexes and Additional Attacks of Opportunity

If you have the Combat Reflexes feat, you can add your Dexterity modifier to the number of attacks of opportunity you can make in a round. This feat does not let you make more than one attack for a given opportunity, but if the same opponent provokes two attacks of opportunity from you, you could make two separate attacks of opportunity (since each one represents a different opportunity). Moving out of more than one square threatened by the same opponent in the same round doesn't count as more than one opportunity for that opponent. All these attacks are at your full normal attack bonus.[/info]

As the creature lunged forward for its grapple attempt, you quickly struck out at it. But the angle was slightly off, and the glob of green slime managed to evade the attack, rolling on the side of your blade as it swept downwards. You followed up with a cleave shortly after. This time your blade struck true. You saw the acid from the creature splatter forward at that moment.

[info]Player to roll reflex to prevent weapon damage[/info]

It seemed to flinch from the attack, though the unthinking creature continued its assault, leaping up on you again, attempting to engulf you. However, like before, it only flew harmlessly to your side as you quickly side stepped away.

QuoteConcentration Checks and Casting Spells

To cast a spell, you must concentrate. If something interrupts your concentration while you're casting, you must make a concentration check or lose the spell. When you make a concentration check, you roll d20 and add your caster level and the ability score modifier used to determine bonus spells of the same type. Clerics, druids, and rangers add their Wisdom modifier. Bards, paladins, and sorcerers add their Charisma modifier. Finally, wizards add their Intelligence modifier. The more distracting the interruption and the higher the level of the spell you are trying to cast, the higher the DC (see Table: Concentration Check DCs). If you fail the check, you lose the spell just as if you had cast it to no effect.

Sytheer takes a defensive stance. Weary of jumping into a mass that happens to spray acid. But she is prepared should she need to come to the aid of her companion.

As the acid started to splatter, you had quickly pulled it back, letting the acid fall away to the ground. You noticed as its 'blood' seemed to melt even the dirt as wisps of smoke wafted slowly where each droplet hit. When it leapt on you, you were prepared, as you stepped away, you unleashed another strike, hitting the creature again.

[info]Player to roll reflex to prevent weapon damage.[/info]

You began casting then, keeping your distance from the creature as it looked for an opening. But none came, instead, your spell was unleashed as a ray of scorching fire blew right into the creature. The green acid it held within its body began to sizzle. You heard a popping, almost bubbly sound as the slime creature was literally cooked alive.

All of a sudden a bright light appeared, as the slime was taken away.

The crowd roared in approval at the defeat.

[info]As a sorcerer, all your spells should already be prepared, so you're good I think.

Jorn used up a refresh. We're now on Day 2. All HP recovered, and all daily abilities recovered.[/info]

You spent the rest of the evening healing your wounds, and taking a rest.

When the morning came, you made your way to the arenas again as the organizers began outfitting you with the teleportation badge required for all competitors and beasts. An hour later the arena was cleared and the new challengers placed into combat. You didn't know what to expect, though you knew the fight was to be harder. Soon enough the next opponent was unveiled and before you stood a serpentine creature, like a wingless dragon, but had five heads attached to the body. It towered to maybe 24 ft. in height. Though even that was an estimation as the way the heads moved around and the necks coiled, that it made it difficult to get a good measure. Unlike the other previous rounds however, there was a sizeable crowd to this one. Most of the would-be adventurers had to stop at the fight before, and from here on out were perhaps the toughest the event organizers could get together.

Before going into this match Jorn had no idea what he would be pitted against. This was the worst part of these challenges. You truly did not know how to honestly prepare. It was during this time that Jorn bowed his head to Sytheer's and prayed to his goddess.

"Lady Dehanine, I do not wish to dishonor you this day. Please continue to guide my hands as your servant and grant me strength and courage as I represent our people in battle."

When the companions stepped out into the arena to bask in the morning, they felt prepared for anything. However, nothing could prepare them for facing such a massive creature. Was this even a fair pairing? Jorn chuckled to himself, and looked to Sytheer. He was not certain what they faced though he had heard stories of dragon like creatures with many heads. Something about the heads but he could not recall specifics.

"Well my friend, I hope you are ready, they will get our monies worth today."

Sytheer seemed to tense a bit, "The Lady will guide us in our actions, do not lose faith young one."

Why did the cat sound more noble. It was as if she knew just how to push Jorn to get the most out of his efforts.

Jornathel raised his voice to the crowd, "Everyone, on this day you find yourselves blessed by the magnificence and glory of Lady Dehanine Moonbow, Daughter of the Night Skies, Goddess of the Moon! We do battle today both in her name and for all the great people gathered here to witness this spectacle. Cheer and shout, give courage to the Victor!"

QuoteYou can cast 1 level 1 spell during your initiative roll, so feel free to do that too. Mage Armor and Heroism, being at or above 1 hour duration, was cast before the match started/enemy appeared.

Also assuming Defense > Offense > Special Abilities for knowledge checks unless you specify otherwise.

And didn't catch this last time, but Mage Armor does not stack with your armor, as your armor already gives more than 4 AC. See here (http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?81144-Mage-Armor-does-not-stack-with-Armor-Shield-does-not-stack-with-a-Shield) and here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?36613-Does-Mage-Armor-Stack). Knowing that, I can let you forget that spell for something else on your Sorcerer spells. I would recommend the Shield spell, though it has a shorter duration because you aren't using a shield right now, it will stack.

QuoteArmor/Shield Bonus

Each type of armor grants an armor bonus to Armor Class, while shields grant a shield bonus to Armor Class. The armor bonus from a suit of armor doesn't stack with other effects or items that grant an armor bonus. Similarly, the shield bonus from a shield doesn't stack with other effects that grant a shield bonus.

The crowd, much larger than the one against the slime, cheered loudly. The arena wasn't yet entirely full, but this particular one drew in a lot more audiences than the previous fight. There were some who shouted out the name of your guild in their cheer as they eagerly watched the upcoming spectacle.

The large lumbering beast was huge, as you estimated that it took about a space of 15 ft. by 15 ft. Along with its impressive height, was a feat to behold. You began racking your knowledge of any ideas of what it may be and realized it was a magical creature, a Hydra. You recall reading about them in the past during some of your arcane studies.

You saw the large creature begin to make its way towards you. Though, with its large size, it didn't seem to be particularly quick.

Jorn was excited that he was able to recall the details of this ancient beast. It was something that he was aware of and also knew the dangers that it could pose if left unchecked. The heads alone posed a serious danger to his health and the young elf was not quite ready to be torn asunder by such a shambling monstrosity. There was precious time to waste, so the sorcerer went straight into casting.

His hand began to weave a fiery pattern while the other drew his blade.

[info]Jorn to confirm movements. Scorching Ray has a range of 25 ft. +5 ft/2 levels. So a max of 40 ft. at your current level. To make the above work, I'm going to have you Delay your initiative until the creature runs at 60 ft., then have you 5 ft. step forward to be in range, and finally cast Scorching Ray.

The drawback of this however, is now your initiative happens after the enemy. Let me know if this is fine, or if you want to do something else.[/info]
You had a chance to act first, and you began preparing your spell. The large creature was still too far away for your own spell to take affect, so you held the spell as you watched the beast run closer. Sytheer on the other hand, didn't have that limitation, and a blast of three orbs of magic shot forth from your companion, hitting the large creature square on the chest. You noted that the wounds had already begun to close. Something you remember innate to hydra.

Finally as the creature was close enough, you unleashed your spell, scorching the beast with a ray of fire.

QuoteI agree Throndir, we can go with the new order as posted above.

Jorn hesitated to begin his assault preferring to not waste time with a lesser spell armament. This was a creature that was certainly not meant to be trifled with. With a mental nod to Sytheer the two casters began their second assault. Jorn knew that if he waited, that if he slowed his progress that this battle could quickly turn out of his favor.

His hand began to weave a fiery pattern directing his attack at the body of the creature.

Quote
Jorn does not move from his position.

Sytheer attempts to flank the creature as it closes on Jornathel.

[info]Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand the Cath Shee you posted, it has 1 Magic Missile at CL 3 (2 bolts of magic), and another at CL 5 (3 bolts of magic).[/info]

As the large lumbering hydra continued to close in. Sytheer blast off another set of magic missiles, hitting their target. It seemed to flinch from the attack, though you notice its wounds regenerating again. Its five heads loomed closer, as each of them struck out. You managed to duck and roll out of the way for the first three, however the fourth head managed to bite you, and as the last head attack, you barely had enough time to step out of the way as your Shield spell took care of the rest by deflecting its head.

You started casting your spell again, and when you finished a blast of fire scorched the creature.

QuoteCorrect the actual Cath Shee is a CL 7 creature. So it scales down based on the level of the caster, since Familiar HD are based on Caster Level. Since I am a 6th level caster my Familiar is a considered a 6 HD creature.
[spoiler]If a Cath Shee should become a familiar and the caster is lower than 7th level its abilities shall match the owner. Assume all spell-like abilities are zero then consult the progression chart below.

Feat: Weapon Finesse (claws)

5th Level: Spell-like abilities: Blink 1/day, Faerie Fire 1/day, Magic Missile 1/day as a 5th lvl caster
Feat: Alertness
Grants the master a +1 to Attack Rolls.

7th Level: Spell-like abilities: Blink 1/day, Invisibility, Greater 1/day as a 7th lvl caster

Jorn was cautious of approaching the beast but it was already too close to risk further spell casting. His feline companion had taken this time to move behind the hydra allowing the companions to at least flank the beast.

Navigating around the heads, Jorn struck for the body. The creature appeared to be weaker and wasting time with the heads would simply give it more time to regenerate.

As Sytheer stepped forward, getting into position, you took the queue as well as both of you began to surround the creature. A moment after that step both you and Sytheer struck out. An hour later as the arena was cleared up and you ushered back in, on the other side of the arena was a large creature of some sort. From your point of view, it looked like some sort of pile of flesh and blubber. It looked rotting, though you couldn't quite decide if it was undead or not. The most prominent feature of this rotting blob of flesh was a large and gaping maw filled with sharp teeth. There was a much larger crowd than even last match, and though it wasn't quite as full as during the time the Tournaments ran, it was getting there.

Neither you nor Sytheer were able to figure out what kind of creature it was. You both had a clear understanding of arcane creatures, but this glob of flesh did not seem to fit into any of the categories you knew of. You could smell a distinct odor in the air, and likely, it came from that beast that now stared at you.

As you shouted to the crowd to appease them, quite a few of them cheered. Your way of rallying the crowd was a fresh of breath air for the folks in the audience, and even now they begun to chant your name specifically. Though you still see many people bearing flags with your guild's emblem on it. Only few adventurers made it this far after all, with a large chunk of them being from the Guild of Galas'nor.

[info]Mage Armor doesn't stack due to your current armor. Normally, the Shield spell would have too short a duration to count, but I'll treat it as the spell you cast when you roll your initiative due to your class ability.

QuoteSorry about the spell mix up. I had copied and pasted from the last match. Just to have a starting base line and forgot to replace the spell.

The elf was not certain he wished to engauge this thing in melee. He might be better served to face it in retreat. If it moved anything like prior creatures it could potentially be quite swift. The plan that he communicated to Sytheer was simply to keep a line of retreat and if the beast closed in to quickly to collapse into a flanking position. This way they could maximize each others capabilities.

"Sytheer my friend, let us taunt our foe and ridding this thing with missiles. "

The glob of flesh with the maw began to move its body towards you. It seemed to both roll, and jump in the air as it did so. It made a fairly fast pace as the bolts of magic both you and Sytheer crashed straight into the creature's large and nauseating body. The creature was still a good distance away, but already the light stench you had smelled earlier had indeed gotten worse.

The misshapen creature continued to move toward him in a eerie rolling and sliding motion. The shape and smell of the creature reminded Jorn of stories told to him by his mother about demons worshiped by the spider kissers. Just knowing that this thing resembled something from the depths was enough to set the young elf into a frenzy.

He quickly passed his other hand along the blade invoking a piece of natural magical power, which gave the blade a faint white glow. His intent was to cleave the thing in two.

The zealous elf screamed in a rage, "Goddess protect me as I smite this unsightly beast of darkness!"

You charged forward as you saw Sytheer do the same from his vantage point. As you neared, the stench grew worse and worse. It assaulted your senses, but you managed to quell down the nauseating feelings. You closed the gap as the beast too was charging at you. You slashed downwards, and a moment after followed up with another slash. Both strikes hit, and the creature made a gurgling sound from somewhere deep within its maw.

The glob of rotting flesh attempted to attack with its large maw, reaching out to crush you with its rows of sharp teeth. But you rolled out of the way just in time, and in that moment Sytheer struck as well, clawing and biting at the rotting creature. The combined assault left the creature covered in fatal wounds, and even now some sort of liquid secretion was coming out of the freshly created wounds, the stench even worse.

[info]I need a fortitude from Sytheer as well.

Only one karma usage per turn, and we don't have a way to close the gap through karma (http://forums.fantasyworldcreations.com/index.php?topic=826.0). Here's my suggestion instead:

Jornathel uses Full Round Action: Charge
Then use 3 karma for another standard action: Attack

Sytheer uses Full Round Action: Charge

Also its very weird that a cat does not have a pounce special attack, which will allow you to use your full round attack action on a charge attack. I'll go ahead and modify the Cath Shee you posted with pounce.

Karma usage resolved: 107 -> 104

Player to confirm actions above. Roll Fortitude for Sytheer. And take your turn.[/info]

Though the smell was intense and the feeling was quite terrible it was too late. Jorn had thrown all sense aside and was determined to see this to the very end. The beast gave ground and the warrior refused to relent the assault.

Nimbly the elf continued to move in a fluid dance style, shifting the curved blade from a forward deep slash, he tucked the blade tightly into his side and spun slicing along the creatures body, and stepping to the side he brought the blade around his hand dipping into a deep forward slash.

Jorn shouted again: "Sing loudly fellow by standers, cheer the chant of victory, cheer to the power combat, let my blade tell you the story of RAGE!"

As you struck the creature, both of your attacks cut deep. The two consecutive blows was enough to further slice apart the creature. The first attack cut a huge chunk off of the glob of flesh, and as the second one followed, it too took just a huge chunk off. With the damage done, a bright flash of light took it away. All that was left was a tell-tale stench that still lingered in the area.

An hour later as the arena was cleaned up and you ushered back in, you see some sort of humanoid creature 110 ft. away. It looked like it was completely covered in some hard armor, and you noticed the large pincer-like claw it had on its right hand. It seemed to breathe hard, as if it had trouble breathing, though as the creature began starting to move towards you, it didn't seem as if it affected any of its abilities.

The audience cheered loudly as they chanted your name as well as the guild. Though you noted that there seemed to be more cheers for your own name. Even among your guild members, all tried and true warriors, only a handful have managed to get this far in the arena's challenge.

Try as you might, you were not able to identify the creature before you. It wasn't anything draconic or from the arcane, nor was it any sort of aberration or ooze that you knew of. If you had to guess it was some sort of animal, or at least a humanoid of some sort with animalistic features. You saw it begin to move however, but before it had a chance, Sytheer had already dashed off to cast a magic missile, while you exploded into casting yourself.

The bolts of magic hit the creature as it continued its mad dash towards you. It seemed to ignore your feline companion, only going straight towards you as it loomed tall.

You motioned for Sytheer to flank the enemy. However, as Sytheer attempted to move to do so, the creature found an opportunity to attack when your companion dropped its guard. The creature's large claw reached out, grabbing Sytheer and immediately proceeded to crush the familiar. You felt thoughts of pain being sent to you, and of warning and surprise, but eventually the thoughts ceased as a flash of bright light took Sytheer away.

You knew your familiar would be safe in the hands of the clerics, and you charged forward with your blade, striking the creature down, and adding your attacks to the many wounds it already had. A flash of light told you that you did enough damage to creature, leaving you alone on the battlefield.

The crowd went wild as they cheered.

I am going to spend a reset, and check on Sytheer. Also plan to hit up the shops before I proceed. Feel free to hand out the items as well. I will base my shop visits off those.

Dimensional Acid, Corrosive Pit

Aura Faint conjuration; CL 7th

Slot none; Price 1,750 gp; Weight 1 lb.

DESCRIPTION

The acid in this flask burns not through matter, but through space itself, creating a temporary extradimensional pit wherever it touches. A flask of dimensional acid can be thrown as a splash weapon with a range increment of 10 feet. Alternatively, it can be used as a special component when casting the snare spell. Instead of the spell's usual effect, the creature that triggers the modified snare is treated as if it had taken a direct hit from the dimensional acid.

Dimensional acid comes in a number of varieties.

Basic Pit: This acid creates a pit, as the create pitAPG spell, where it lands. Faint conjuration; CL 3rd; Craft Wondrous Item, create pitAPG.

Corrosive Pit: This acid affects matter as well, creating an acid pitAPG where it lands. Faint conjuration; CL 7th; Craft Wondrous Item, acid pitAPG.

Jagged Pit: This acid creates a spiked pitAPG spell where it lands. Moderate conjuration; CL 5th; Craft Wondrous Item, spiked pitAPG.

Living Pit: This acid burns into a living dimension, creating a hungry pitAPG where it lands. Moderate conjuration; CL 9th; Craft Wondrous Item, hungry pitAPG.

An hour later you were ushered back into the arena with another opponent. The arenas were completely full. There were only a few individuals who managed to make it this far into the challenge arena, and many of them cheered for both you and your guild. You see some banners that people waved around with your name in plain sight to see. On the other side of the arena was a large bull. It stood over 15 ft. tall, and its body was around 30 ft. in length. Its horns were reminiscent of a stag, and were spaced at about 15 ft. apart.

You could not identify the large creature, other than it looked like a giant bull. You were certain it was some sort of animal.

Jornathel bellowed for all to hear, "Good people we are gathered on this stupendous day to witness a battle of grand proportions. Will we live this day or will we be lifted up by the beast's massive horns and torn to shreds. Cheer for us, cheer for Victory!"

What Jorn and his partner faced this time was a large bull in appearance. If this creature acted anything like a bull than it would potentially charge and be quite dangerous in melee combat. The plan that he communicated to Sytheer was simply enough, to keep a line of retreat and flank the beast as they moved in concert.

Drawing his blade with one hand his other shaping arcane runes into the air, azure energy streaking with each pass.

As you began moving forward, getting into position along with Sytheer, the enemy did the same, charging headlong towards you. Both you and Sytheer managed to get off one of your spells, but at that moment the huge bull had already closed the gap to Jorn, and, from 15 ft. away, impaled the elf with one of its horns. Jorn was able to shake himself off, but the attack had left a heavy wound.

Round 1 ends, round 2 begins
Enemy attacks Jorn, moving 15 ft and attacks dealing 25 damage. Enemy is 15 ft. from Jorn. 30 ft. from Sytheer.

Sytheer and Jorn moved into position preparing to strike but the beast had already moved onto the offensive. The quick rush and stabbing sensation was briefly over whelming and the elf felt his stance falter. This was not the time to shy away from combat and luckily he had prepared for such an occasion with his newly purchased bracers. It was time to put them to the test and to test the two's mettle against such a stalwart creature.

Jorn exploded into motion, his hand wipping into frantic motion  preparing a flaming spell that appeared to burn much brighter than before. His blade ready to follow the blast and strike a mortal wound against the powerful beast.
