Title: Operation: Promethius
Post by: Burdenking on September 03, 2014, 12:12:03 AM
With a loud clunking noise, the door to the transport ship opened and slammed down to the sandy ground, and blasting a high speed torrent of sand that seemed to chip some paint on the Cores within. It was immediately apparent visual information would be near useless, which would mean the crew would have to rely on the various sensors for seeing anything around them, and for detecting enemies.
All units are affected by the sand storm as thus. Long range weapons cannot fire beyond their maximum effective range. Standard combat range is halved. To fire at the standard range, they must use their sensors to call a target, then make the shot as if making a called shot.
"Aw hell, this is gonna be a grand time. Alright everyone, let's head on out, and keep your eyes on your sensors. We're gonna need keep our eyes on our sensors." Said the lieutenant, charging on out in his Core and sweeping the area he could see with sensors and visuals.

"No wonder we could land so close.", Hyacinth comments as her machine rumbles down the ramp, "In these conditions, we'll probably be able to get rather close before they spot us."

As she moves along, Hyacinth keeps the Battle Dragon as close to structures, smaller vehicles, and debris as much as possible in order to conceal the signature given off by the tank she was running. (Stealth, using mecha reflex in place of personal scale reflex [blockquote]Rolled 1d10+6 : 1 + 6, total 7[/blockquote])

"It'll be a miracle if we spot them before they spot us though."

Never the less, Hyacinth keeps a close watch on her sensors in the hopes that she might manage to pick one of the enemy out first.

Ion walks The Pugilist out of the transport ship, letting out a low whistle at the sight of the sandstorm blowing across his view screens. "Well, this should make things interesting," he comments, while keeping an eye on his sensors.

"Bloody's not going to like all this sand." But even as her words were negative, there was a fire behind her eyes as she moved her mecha forward. Aria was eager to face with the enemies, keeping up with the group, preferring to be closer to the front than at the back. She kept her scans at their full power, as well as continually keeping alert - as much as the blasting winds of sand would allow at least.

"Other than moving north, do we have any sort of plan?" Aria asked into her comm.

Zephyr grunted slightly at the sand whipping past through the wind. "At least the enemy is as hampered by the weather as we are. Though if we had a map of the topography at least we would have something to go off of, or better yet if we could simply look past the sand... That's it!" Quickly Zephyr opened up his internal system programming and focused in on the optical sensors. If he could just reroute the information and increase the heat and UV light readings he might just be able to make a quick program that just focused on heat and light signatures and just deleted the sand. It would not be perfect by any means and he wasn't sure how far out this program would let them to see but it would be better then anything in this situation.

Piledriver dropped down from the ship, and the slow mecha started marching alongside its fellow cores.  The machine was sturdier than it looked...it hadn't fallen apart yet...nor exploded.   It sure did creak and clang a lot as it moved, though.

"Well...the one plan I have is simple...strike before we're struck.   Those guys settled on a place with storms...so I wouldn't count on them being as lost as us."    After saying that, Nadiya's mech raised its gun arm.   Her trigger finger was very itchy as she contemplated pressing it some more.  One shot could give them away...or hit defenses.  This was a tough choice...but...no, too much at risk here.

The ifrit pulled down a lever and pressed the trigger and the combat core began firing its incendiary cannons as well as its machine gun in hopes of hitting something.  Maybe the explosive payload would light something up...or tell them what may be ahead.

The battle moved forward, and received no attention it seemed from any enemies that may or may not have been within the sandy storms. With the knowledge, it was only a quick looking over to her sensors that Hyacinth needed to perform to confirm what they already knew. Near the edge of her sensor's range, was a large square icon, indicating a large, high power consuming structure. This was likely their target, was not much to cause alarm.

What was cause for alarm however was what appeared to be 25 non-ally blips on the radar. The sensor's FOF program kicked in and marked them as hostile's. They weren't group together it seemed, lucky for them, and seemed to be heading off to engage not only their squad, but the two other squads as well. The total amount of hostiles heading their way were around 8 units, with one unit it seemed staying back from the group.

Anyone else using their sensors could see the same, and the data was quickly shared by the Lieutenant to everyone, regardless of having saw it themselves. "Alright everyone, i know I've been a ass up to this point, but believe me when i say this. I'm not keen on burying another team member, so make sure you guys stay safe and don't screw up. Do that and I'll buy drinks for everyone when we get back to the Bulwark." The lieutenant said to them, sounding a lot calmer then before and less cruel in tone.

As he spoke, Zephyr's program was in the works. With an impressive show of skill, the base work of the program was laid out nearly instantly, and was already ready to begin programming the minor detail. However it was far from done, and would take heavy focus to finish in time to be useful for the fight ahead.

The enemies were roughly 5 minutes away, closing in cautiously as they seemed to take the sandstorm seriously as a hindrance. The 9th enemy unit still stayed in the back, very close to the target and remaining completely stationary. The advancing formation only changed slightly at the sound of  Piledrivers weaponry firing, the sensors confirming not a single hit being made against the advancing units. However, the enemy now seemed to have found a general direction to aim for, and are taking necessary formations to use this info.

As the enemy approach was illuminated by her sensors, Hyacinth noticed something troubling.

"They left just a single unit guarding the objective.", she notes aloud, for the benefit of her allies, "Is it a token defense they don't expect to need, or are they really that confident in that one pilot?"

Given the sudden burst of gunfire from the Piledriver, Hyacinth quickly locates a nearby channel for storm drain runoff that sits lower than the prevailing terrain and settles her machine into it to better conceal it from view and sensors, then an alternate possibility strikes her as to the identity and purpose of the lone enemy unit.

"Lieutenant, there's a chance that could be some kind of sensors and communications vehicle.", she relays, "If I'm right, leaving it alone would be a mistake. What do you think?"

Hyacinth awaits the lieutenant's reply anxiously within the cramped cockpit of her tank, The interior had long since become cozy and was now beginning to get just a little warm. It was about to begin. Within the next few minutes, Hyacinth would be fighting for her retribution against imperial pilots, however the wait for that confrontation was beginning to feel interminable.

"Come on! Get in range already!" Aria cried as she continued to point the heavy cannon attached to her core at the direction of the enemies. She was eager to unload her weapons and blast the empire away, and the more she thought about it, the more she was tempted to break out of formation and charge just to close the gap. She had spent countless hours tinkering and modifying her combat core for this very purpose. The flashing red icons marking other combat cores was almost mocking as she continued to stare at the layout in front of her. They enemies were close, and the anticipation Aria felt was enough to keep Aria firmly eyeing the scans, waiting until the first of those red dots crosses the line.

And when they did...

"Bam!" Aria said out-loud, forgetting to realize she had her comm still up.

The lieutenant briefly shook his head at Aria's out burst, then began to move forward "Well Petty officer, knowing the Imps, you're likely right. Something like that can't be left alone, however, we'll have to ether find a way to get through the Imps or have someone go around alone, and i don't like ether of those options." He said, his core stopping a little bit after he started walking. He lifted up his weapon and aimed into the smoke, his Core unmoving after that. "So, take a vote. which sounds best for you scrubs?" He asked, keeping an eye on all of his sensory systems.

The program everyone received was from Zephyr was nearly complete, only requiring a single large file to be completed and sent for it to begin taking affect in the core's systems.

"Separating someone from the group would be the worst idea I can conceive of at the moment.", Hyacinth replied in short order, "If we give them a chance to pick us off one by one, it would be a best case scenario for the imperials. That's the sort of strategy we ought to be using against them, not walking headlong into ourselves."

Meanwhile, the new program began to install to her machine's OS, and the sensors picture began to vary in color, magnification, and contrast as settings began to change,

It was all Hyacinth could do to conceal the anxiety present in her voice, having been caused by the sudden loud BAM uttered by one of her squad mates. As much of a nice person as Aria seemed like, at just this point in time Hyacinth couldn't help but loathe the excitable personality the girl possessed. Under the circumstances, she predicted that it was going to quickly get on her nerves.

Nadiya was pushing Piledriver forward at full speed while she tried to hook up some old screens to actually be able to get Zephyr's program working on the old core.  "I'm with Ion.   Let's just shoot them 'til they're dead.   And the shrub does make a good point...a nice clustered line of fire ought to kill those imps like flies."  The ifrit chuckled, her weapons at the ready.

The liutenant sighed, then nodded "Alright then men, let's punch those Imps right through! " He said, his mech chraging forward on hove rjets, creating more swirling sand to add to the storm. "This IR sensor mod you whippe dup better work Zyph, or else we just wasted time."

On everyone's radar, the CO moved forward 4 hexes, and maintained that position while he waited for others to follow suit. " There's a structure up ahead, if we hurry, we can use it as cover and be better prepared for the fire fight." He said, continuing his charge ahead.

As for the enemies, everyone's sensors detected them maintaining their speed, and from computer projections, contact would be made within 2 minutes.

At that command, Hyacinth fire-walled the throttle and her machine lurched forward, engine roaring. Peering through the scopes on her machine, she could quite clearly see the difference the sensors mod was making. Where structures had once been hidden behind a cloud of sand, she could now make them out, and in some detail.

Taking a hull down position behind the cover in question, Hyacinth set her machine's turret on a swivel, seeking any opposing units that may have moved into range.

With a massive blast of wind the seemed to scream as it tore through the air, The Lieutenant slammed the shoulder of his massive core into the side of a building, just as a hail of gun fire came from the now thickening cloud of sand as the Imperials had managed to catch a glimpse of his core.

"Alright, here we go!" Shouted the Lieutenant over the comm, briefly popping out from his cover to send a hail of gun fire out at the enemy that stood beyond visual range, but fortunately, stood just within thermal range of the new sensor program Zyphyr had whippe dup.

All the thermals could do was create a cloud of colors where it detected heat sources, giving no definite shapes, but it did allow a pilot to have an idea of where they should shoot. And by the sight of the Imperials haphazard firing, you could tell they did not have the same luxury.

The red blinking lights on her monitor and sensors caught Aria's attention as she pushed her core against the building. But she didn't have a chance to thoroughly take a look. The moment they were in range, bullets had rained upon them then at that instant. The area was pummeled with bullets. Aria was glad that they had the dust clouds around them, if only that it added another layer of protection from the imperial's almost chaotic firing.

The hail of bullets narrowly missed Aria's combat core. The large mecha surprisingly being able to survive unscathed from the first reign of bullets. The mechanic grinned slightly, as she proceeded to examine the readouts on her sensors - the momentary reprieve with the cover of the building gave her just that chance to examine the notifications appearing on her consoles. As well as the red dots that looked all too worrying in Aria's eyes.

Where there was once just a single lone imperial core in the distance, now were three. And to make matters worse, two of the red dots split off from that group of three, and started heading straight to their group. Her combat core was one of the older models for construction units, and though it has had a lot of upgrades since, it didn't come equipped with any sort of speed estimates for objects in its scan range. But one thing was for certain. These were going fast, way too fast.

"I don't like giving out more bad news, but it looks like we have two more Imperial cores heading our way. Going a lot faster than any other combat core schematic from the empire I've seen. It's at a speed beyond anything that has been recorded for standard Imperial units. They're coming from the direction of that lone Imperial unit we detected earlier... and it's not going to be long until those two are here." The young mechanic said. Her voice was even, but there was a hint of worry.

BAM

With a pair of metallic tones akin to a bell, a pair of enemy shots slam into the front of the Battle Dragon's turret.

"FUCK!"

With her ears still ringing from the impact, Hyacinth quickly looked about the instruments in her cockpit searching for some indication of what damage had been done. Reassuringly, no warnings were blinking back at her through the mild haze of dust that had been stirred up when her machine had been hit.

Hearing that the approaching enemy were moving faster than any previous intel had suggested was unwelcome news though. They would have to be dealt with in short order if the attack was to survive initial contact.

"All right, LET 'EM HAVE IT!"

Hyacinth's desire to act out her revenge was now plainly evident as she directed her cannons at the blob of heat closest to her. A snarl upon her face wholly uncharacteristic for her people, she squeezed the trigger.

For a brief instant, the world seemed to stand still and silent,...

Then twin balls of fire erupted from the muzzles of the Battle Dragon, sending the shells straight toward the enemy approaching her.

Zephyr had to move fast if he wanted to make a difference. If he could use the sandstorm to blindside them then get behind them then they would be in the perfect flanking position. He had to make sure that he was out of the way of whatever Aria had warned them about. He was not all that fond of getting caught by those things. But if he didn't act they would all get killed anyway. Why did they have to send him on such a suicide mission he was built for stealth not the front lines.

"No use complaining though, if we don't use this storm to our advantage then we will really be screwed."
With that he began the proccess of starting up his jets. Due to his Mechs light weight it would be almost impossible to hear until he was on top of them. Waiting till he heard them stop to reload. This was his window of opportunity moving forward in a flash he gets directly up into the face of one at the center.

"Well hello there Sweetheart mind if i have this dance?!"
he grunted whilst preforming a spinning kick right at the head of enemy. With any luck he might even get the thing to explode while he dodged into the storm. This is why he loved having this reflex model of mech.

Hopefully he had provided an opportunity for the others could capatilize on. He made sure that he would also be able to charge in if they were stupid enough to stay focused on the others. He was also making sure to constantly scan the horizon for whatever was coming in to join the fight. Hopefully he had moved far enough out of the way that he could remain hidden in the sandstorm.

In a display that would haunt the survivors of the battle on the Imperial side, the imperial squad watched as in the span of a few seconds, they were wiped out by some back water bumpkins and their jury rigged mechs. Hell, that morning they had placed down a bet to see how fast they would wipe the enemy squads that had been moving into their territory.

So it was to all their surprise when one of their mechs, a racing mech who some of the squad recognized, at least the model, had blasted right up to them and cleaved the head off their CO like his mech was nothing but a paper tiger. In the brief second while that happened, they just watched their CO's head fly off into  the sandstorms clouds, not processing what had just happened. Before they could fire at the Racer mech trying to escape in the clouds though, the sound of the air exploding was heard, and both the CO and two other members were engulfed in a massive explosion.

A quick check by the remaining squad members saw the damage. Saber 1, their CO for 3 years, had his core's entire lower body hit hard, chunks of armor on his core's legs blasted away. Sparks were flying out of them and it was obvious the explosion hit them hard.

Saber 4's Core was completely totaled, his power core damaged in the explosion and every system in his core having flat lined. And his partner, Saber 5, had a massive chunk missing where his neck began, and everything above that had been destroyed.

In a panic, the last of the squad must have forgotten to choose a secure comm line, cause soon Saber squads message was heard by everyone listening to their comms.

"This is Saber 2 calling for immediate assistance, rebel forces are inflicting major damage on Saber squad!" shouted out the imperial mecha, leaning out to open fire at the rebels location, while his partner went to shoot where he saw the racer mech run off to.

However, before Saber 3 had his chance, the Lieutenant came from seemingly no where, and with a swift push, brought his mace down on the the exposed power core of the enemy mech. The power core buckled, but held as the Imp stumbled forward, trying to get his mech back in control as the Lieutenant blasted back behind cover.

"Good job everyone, keep it up."

The remaining cores, after getting themselves together, began to open fire, at least, those who still had heads. The ones without heads are seemingly trying to stay perfectly still. Suddenly however, behind Typhoon, the fast enemy contacts came from no where and opened fire on him from behind the cover of the sand storm.

Ion laughs a laugh full of bloodlust and malice as he charges the enemy front line, stopping just in front of the nearest still active enemy Core. "Your time is up! The Demon of Ruel has come for your life! Pray that your death is quick!" While his MFL days are over, old habits die hard and without noticing at all, Ion slips back into his arena side persona.

He throws a right hook at the Core, then at the last second opens Pugilist's hand and grabs at the Core, sending a shock of electricity through the enemy mech. Pushing the mech back, he aims to slam Pugilist's palm in a second time, sending another shock through the Core.

If the result is below zero, then the shock was too great for the pilot to handle. The pilot rolls an unmodified 1d10, if the result is less than the pilot's stun/shock value, he falls unconscious. Zephyr quickly looking around for any clue of what could have attacked him so quickly he was only able to find two curving vapor trails. Those things were fast really fast. If he could get his hands on those things whether a missile or a mech he could really do something with those propulsion systems. Ideas now flowing freely images of how he could increase typhoon's speed. He wanted those machines even if they had to be scrapped first. Luckily though his reflexes had been just a hair faster running and jumping in just the right way not to get hit. Things were now getting interesting.

"Look out guys Aria was right about whatever was moving in and now it's right on top of us. I wasn't able to get a clear reading but i was able to get a heat trail and it seems like they want to play with me a little." With that he drew two crescent-shaped lines on his map for the others to see  what he had found. "I don't have the time at the moment to do the math myself, but if anyone could do the calculations with either their nav computer programing or their knowledge of how these robots might work to plot a projection of their speed and movement. Then  if someone could lob an explosive at them so we don't need to be the most accurate I would be grateful."

Closing the comms he smirked however, "So you want to play tag do you? Fine speedy lets see who can take out who faster shall we? Me or the rest of your troops!"

With that he leaped (4 hexes) to an enemy mech that had been smacked by his commander and seemed to have taken the least amount of damage and did a thrust of his heel straight to the  head.

When the fighting broke out, and her companions exploded into action, firing weapons, and rushing into melee with their cores. Aria joined in the fray, pumping her core into view of the Imperial units that had first attacked them. Their first wave had damaged the enemies drastically, but she wouldn't let them overtake their momentum. The two fast moving cores she had spotted earlier had already come upon them, and though she worried for it, she held faith that her companions would remain steady.

She opened fire at the nearest enemy.

Hyacinth's view of the battlefield returned after the brief white flash in front of her view port, and she was pleased to discover that her first salvo had found its mark. The fall of shot gave her a surge of confidence such that at that very moment, she felt invincible. The fact that the panicking enemy had broadcast their distress to every single combatant present didn't hurt either. Emboldened, she pushes the throttle forward, rolling the massive tank under her command through the low obstacle she had been using as cover, just as enemy return fire came zinging her way.

The enemy fire whizzed by directly behind the Battle Dragon, landing exactly where Hyacinth would have been had she not moved. It was at this moment that Zephyr could be heard over comms informing the squad that he had been engaged by the fast movers Aria had spotted. Looking at the curvature of the vapor trails, Hyacinth did her best to formulate an idea of what they were up to.

The conclusion, supported and aided by the thoughts of other collective on the battlefield, was a jolt back to reality. Reaching a good position with a wide view, she called back to Zephyr, and the Lieutenant.

"The fast movers are paint drones! They're trying to light up the closest threats for targeting! Zephyr, L.T.! If you can pull them toward me and and scissors across my firing lane to clear it I could take them out with one shot!"

Hyacinth readies the cannons of the Battle Dragon once more, aiming to catch the enemy in an impromptu ambush. The moment the opposing units were in close enough proximity and the firing lane was clear of friendlies, fire would once more belch forth from the muzzles.

Within seconds, the combined might of the entire squad utterly destroyed the Core all three of them had focused their attack on. First came the punch from the fighting Core, rendering the pilot unconscious as his body spasmed from the shock. Then came the cannon shot that tore straight through the Core's body, shutting down the Core to render it inert.

Before any realization that they had acquired spacious salvage for the rebellion, The typhoons foot came and smashed the head of the core clean off, ruining any hope of the Core being of use later on in the fight. This attack was quickly followed by the Lieutenant reengaging the last imperial Core, enter melee combat with him and damaging the Core's left arm again.

As for the Battle dragons powerful shot, it landed just at the right time, and hit both of the drones as they flew out from the smoke. The result was obvious, as shrapnel and servos littered the floor as the two drones were reduced to nothing more then scorch marks on the sand.

The leiutenant popped up on everyone's screen, an obvious smile on the man's face "Screw the drinks, tonight the Victory parties on me! Well done Everyone." He said, his Cor dodging an attack from the panicked imp pilot easily. "Looks like we got nothing but a bunch of rookies and idiots on this mission, and i was worried for nothing!"

Just then, two of the previously disabled cores suddenly exploded, two escape pods rocketing out towards the sky, before changing into airborne vehicles and flying away. The third one, the CO's core, remained where it was, it's body to damaged to allow ejection and safety protocols preventing it's self destruct.

The only thing on the minds of the escaping Core pilots was the fear they had for the seemingly unstoppable rebel pilots, who had somehow taken them down so quickly and easily.

"Lieutenant, I would like permission to call in the scavenger crew early or escort the intact mech and her pilot to the Evac Zone. The tech and info the pair might hold could be invaluable. The longer we wait the more likely the pilot is to get desperate and possibly do something rash. Having a machine in this good of condition and studying the imperial systems designs is why the resistance wanted me in the first place sir. This could be a rare chance that we do not get again for a very long time." Zephyr knew they still had a mission to do but there was a ticking clock now before reinforcements arrived or something else went wrong.

Once he was able to get the captain behind a safety line he would let command deal with restraining him or her till the battle was done. He wanted to meet face to  face the person he had beaten so cleanly. His writer mind wanting to see how much he could get out of them. Depending how high up they wre they might have some good knowledge. Or better yet someone on the front lines was most likely considered worthless and thus flippable. The thing organizations like the empire knew well was how to train soldiers. That kind of experience was worth more then any mech.

"Once the mech has been dealt with i'll rejoin with the main assault at the point of attack. I'm the fastest unit we have so i can be there and back before the enemy can respond."

"Battle Dragon, Advancing on the objective.", Hyacinth called out as her machine rattled and rumbled forward through the dust storm, "There's still that one unknown out there, so I'd appreciate someone on my wing."

'Hell the fuck yes.', she thought, 'The Empire is gonna be feeling this one tomorrow!'

As her target loomed larger and began to differentiate itself from the murky background, Hyacinth loaded a different type of round into the guns. Not wanting to take any chances that the target would somehow survive, she selected a pair of the few armor piercing rounds she had available.

Halting her machine's advance, she took aim at the structure before her. With the guns set firmly in place on a stable platform, she squeezes the trigger.

The barrage of fire made a massive plume of fire and shrapnel appear on the side of the massive planetary gun, which seemed to be preparing to fire as a low hum could be heard within shaking the earth and a slight static was affecting people's visual and audio systems from the build of of power. The explosion managed to take a massive chunk of armor off the side, but in comparison to the whole canon, it was not enough to take it down.

The lieutenant audibly sighed and had his core wave it's hand "Go ahead Zyphyr, I know the tech heads will get a kick out of getting their hands on one. Just make sure you handle the pilot. I don't want you losing your life, core, and the loot just cause you let your guard down." He said, before rocketing off to join the rest of the team. He saw the little affect they had on the gun, and frowned, having hoped it would be just that easy.

However, before he could speak, a voice on an unencrypted channel rang out on the teams comms. "Well welll well....what have we here? A bunch of fringe trash in their scrap heaps come to play soldier? The voice was calm, youthful, and had the obvious tone and accent of an inner colony noble. It was also condescending, as if the person was talking to a child who had attempted to resist the authority of a parent in some endearing way. "Let's see here, what do we have on the menu....A fighter unit, oh how quaint. I may actually have some fun with you. Next is an adorable one. A construction core with some guns stapled all over it, someones been watching a little to much TV huh?" there was a chuckle in his voice, evidence to the amount of entertainment he was having to deconstructing his opposition "Next is, by far, my favorite. An old empire battle tank, modified to be a makeshift core? Oh how inventive, though ultimately idiotic. There's a reason those things were forgotten, remember my dear Collective sister?" Suddenly, sensors began to go hay wire, as a total of 18 enemy contacts suddenly appeared out of no where, completely surrounding the group that had advanced " And finally, we have the stragglers. A racing core, by far one of my favorites just under the rust bucket tank. And finally....ooohhh, someone must have been good all year, to get an inner colony Gas miner. Fish that out in the recent campaign Lieutenant?" The voice finished, it's source still unknown.

The lieutenant, was visibly disturbed, looking around expecting cores, but getting a swarm of drones from earlier staring down at them. Now that he had a good look at them they appeared to be repurposed repair drones, with a tank of liquid connected to a light canon under their body.

Zephyr kept his head about him if he were to try and attack the drones they would only swarm him. He had no means of dealing with so many small enemies at once. His time would be better spent dealing with the enemy core unit then trying to sneak around and find the enemy. He moved without hesitation in that moment if he could get them out of danger fast enough then there would be no issue.

He fist used his jump jets to get directly behind the beheaded core he thought fast tapping somewhere close to where he imagined the cockpit to be he tapped the universal morse code for Ally, Escape, and Commander to make the other pilot believe that he was part of the same force and not to resist. Since the core had been cut off from all communication they would not have realized the folly of his comrades in not encrypting their communications, and telling things like rank and code name.

"Breakout!", Hyacinth shouts over the comms while firewalling the throttle, "We need to get out of this kill zone!"

Hyacinth's grip on her machine's controls was tight as a vise. The enemy's words made her angry, but that was the least of this individual's transgressions. Despite the pain, despair, and hopelessness that the Empire had caused many of her people, and despite the fact that such experiences were shared among Collective, this enemy was serving the Empire anyway.

Traitor

A single word, soaked in venom and hate, sent to the enemy via the collective link accompanied by every last drop, every last ounce of suffering that Hyacinth could share with them. Then, she sent him the last thing her lost love had ever seen; The barrel of a gun, followed by the flash and thunder as the trigger was pulled.

At that very moment, Hyacinth herself squeezed off another pair of high explosive rounds, aiming to punch a hole through the enemy's ring of drones and get closer still to the objective.

In a flash of gun fire from the team, 8 Drones were obliterated in seconds. But, as the shrapnel fell to the ground, the other drones began to move around the party in their circle, their jets causing plooms of sand and dust to be blasted up. It was quickly getting harder to see with all of the dust being kicked up, which seemed to be the drones intention.

Then, with a click of safeties being switched off, all the drones Opened fire Upon the group.

Back at the battle, the mystery pilot spoke again "Aww, a little trigger happy aren't we? Well then, hopefully my drones will be able to teach you how it feels to be the victim." He said, chuckling at the end.

Through the sound of jets from the drone sand their gun fire, a low rumble was starting to be heard coming from the east. Almost as soon as the team was aware of it enough to determine it was actually happening, a massive flood of KIA reports came in from the second team, the one who had been dealing with the large force surprisingly well. That is, until all but one of them were wiped out in an instant.

A gargled message came from the lone all. It sounded to be an Ifrit of some kind, but fear and panic was evident in the girls voice, which was a rare thing for her people " Tower team, Warning. Enemy new types moving in. They killed everyone, and I'm surrounded taking heavy fire. They're heading your way, you've gotta-AHHHHHHHHHHH!" the transmission cut, and a final KIA report came in, indicating the entire squad was dead. It was then that the rumble of explosions fully hit them, massive plooms of smoke rising where the squad last had been.

"Heh, there we go. Now, I'd prepare yourselves Fringe trash, cause I'm on my way to entertain you.

Zephyr tried his best to keep Typhoon from falling to pieces, but his hands were already kind of full as it was. The straining sound of his cores arms as the almost broke was by far the least pleasant of noises. By Disengaging his arm senors he could have his bot maintain his grip for a short while so that he could plot the proper course.

"Just hold together for me a little longer buddy, just a little longer."

He had already made it half way to his destination. If he really booked it, he might make it before the arms sheered off from the weight. With a final sigh he took back control and did his best to maintain his grip at all costs. Hey then continued to jump away despite the chaos that may be occurring behind him.

The team's attack took out another five drones, the wreckage hitting the ground hard. However, the drones had managed to hit two of their team mates. Though, the paint didn't do much in terms of damage or movement hindrance, so one had to wonder what they did. Hyacinth managed to push her tank out of the ring at first, but the drones quickly adjusted and kept her within the ring as best as they could, the dust wall weakening with it's number of drones going down.

On everyone's thermals, a massive heat spike to their right side was detected, before it disappeared. Following this, the sound of a sound bearer nearly break was heard. At first nothing happened, then came the shockwave as a hole was torn through the dust wall, and in the blink of an eye, a small Core came through, slashed at both Aria And Ion's mechs, doing 2 kills each on both their torso's, before exiting the smoke cloud on the other side.

The voice came back "Oh thank you so much for not dodging my drones. Makes taking you down so much easier." He said over the comm, with the sound of massive vents releasing pressure being hear din the background.

As this sound came out, another massive thermal spike was seen to the teams left, but it quickly disappeared.

As the whine of his arms was heard, one would think the Typhoon was about to give. It wasn't until the Typhoon finally made it to the drop point did things seem in the clear, as the structure of the Typhoon's arms held after that last hurtle somehow.

Zephyr placed the larger core down behind a building and signaled for the extraction team. Tapping on the core again to tell him to wait to be rescued by an incoming ship he turned his attention back to the fight on hand.

That sound they had heard was most likely engines of some kind of core. He racked his brain for possible designs that would require such venting. If it was coming in hot and he could guess at any weak points that might just turn the battle to their favor. Those paint drones however would be a problem. No doubt the enemy was using the paint like his team were using thermal signatures to make it easier to hit things from within the sandstorm. The only problem, the enemy had more then just a few cores on their side. If an orbital sattlite was relaying information they could rain down any kind of hellfire down on them.

"Guys they are most likely trying to mark everyone to make it easier to assualt us. Try your best to dodge but if you do get hit make sure it counts this psycho is comming in hot!" "That machine is moving too quick for its own good!", Hyacinth called out to her comrades in arms, "Put rounds through the heat signature when it slows down to change direction and you're bound to score a few hits!"

Hyacinth immediately follows through with her suggestion, seeking to plant a pair of high explosive rounds in the enemy's immediate vicinity with yet another thunderous roar of the Battle Dragon's cannons.

[blockquote]Rolled 1d10+9 : 8 + 9, total 17[/blockquote] Cannon Fire

Still less than pleased with the lack of visibility toward her objective, Hyacinth continues moving forward. With the number of drones having been destroyed by the assembled machines being rather large, Hyacinth thought it possible that her machine moving farther out might just force them to choose between maintaining their dust screen around her alone, or the rest of the squad. It also crossed her mind that they might try to keep everyone's vision obscured and fail at it with their reduced numbers.

Furthermore, given the distance Hyacinth's machine had covered since the battle's outset, there was a chance that she might finally get a truly clear shot at her objective.

'Not likely.', She thought to herself, 'They're definitely going to be coming for me now.'

Ion laughed, "Is that the best you can do? Well, can't expect too much out of you imperials. Weak and cowardly." He taunts over the comms.  Pugilist shifts into a somewhat defensive pose, readying for the next attack, "Care to try to prove me wrong Imperial?" Inside the mech, Ion's breathing slows, growing increasingly even, reminiscent of some breathing exercises meant to help someone meditate.
Using Danger Sense to try to predict the Imperial's attack direction and ready to attack when it comes close enough. Danger Sense, you the GM rolls an unmodified 1d10. If you roll 6 or less, my Danger Sense succeeds and Ion will get an idea of where the danger is coming from. Then readied attacks if it succeeds.

The mechanics' first actual
combat continued to keep her alert, and when the next batch of drones fell quickly, Aria only kept up her momentum, seeking out for further targets. When the thermal indicator displayed the heat signature coming from the left, Aria moved forward, readying another round of cannon fire.

The drones released another hail of paint fire, and though it was no way near as cumbersome, there were still many shots being fired within the same time frame.

"Oh really? Weak and cowardly? The way this war has gone so far, I would associate your words with your petty rebellion." The enemy pilot sound.

On the sensors of Hyacinth's core, she could see that her shots were flying straight and true, heading straight for the last heat signature. However, a loud shriek of atmosphere burning was heard and the enemy contact quickly seemed to move away from the cannon fire, as the shriek continued after the shots detonation.

In a similar fashion as before, the Pilot tore through the dust wall and flew past the the team, cutting into both Ion and Aria's cores. Aria's plan to damage the enemy was a good one, however the sudden speed and it tearing it's way through made the shot far less accurate and effective as it could have been.

With no way to tell the damage done, the enemy pilot flew out of the ring, and flew off into the distance. A quick thermal check revealed that he was releasing his pent up heat roughly 700 meters to the east of the group. A check to their sensors would reveal the enemy did not show up on standard sensor equipment, and another squad of Imperial troops moving in.

To put more stress on everyone, a call came in from the Bulwark

"Ground teams, we are 20 minutes from entering planetary gun range. We need a hole and we need it now, or else this momentum we've been building will die right here!" The sound of intense action and rushed commands could be heard, which accompanied by the knowledge that the planet was an Imperial military base world, would show just how important the mission was.
In roughly 6 Rounds, the rebellion fleet will enter planetary gun range.
Also, Zypher's suggested methods of damaging the Enemy mech include focusing down the drones to cut off it's targeting, Forming a box to lure the mech into a killzone by using the painted cores as bait, and finally place a building on the opposite side of you that the enemy pilot is on, as a mech that vast can't likely break to quickly.

The lieutenant takes down another two drones, leaving 6 remaining.

Notice checks everyone
