Title: Chapter 1: The Menace [Completed]
Post by: Hasabushi on April 05, 2013, 09:04:56 PM
[catbar]The Scene[/catbar]

The team is standing in a bleak metallic grey hallway, red emergency lights pulse on and off, the smell of ozone fills the air as electric wiring sparks randomly. The grey tiles beneath clink as the party moves across them. A panel on the wall seems to flashing, it glows green and appears to have a computer interface attached to it. The hallway continues on directly ahead, underneath hanging wires and metal ceiling tiles.

[catbar]Meanwhile...[/catbar]

"Sir, Sentries have been activated, along with all intruder systems."

Captain Virgil ground his teeth, his face twisted in a mix of frustration and determination. "Let me guess, we have no control over them..."

"Affirmative sir, but there is some good news.", the soldier turned around to the screen behind him before the captain could speak, he punched a few buttons causing the building schematic to momentarily shrink to allow a video feed to pop up. "We got this before the surveillance systems went down."

The image changed to show six figures reeking havoc on the holo 1 chamber then escaping through a hole that two of the super's blasted through the wall.

"My god, they did that?", Virgil placed his fist against his chin. "Did you get you Hexdor Scale readings on them?"

The soldier nodded, "You're not going to believe it though sir..."

"Try me."

"They all measured over 15,000 points, but sir it could be an error with readings. Only Iron Shield has a rating that high."

"15,000??? We need to get our team to them now!! Whats their ETA?"

"We don't know sir, we lost contact soon after they entered level 77"

"Goto contigency plan Alpha, and get me Iron Shield!!"

With all the members out of the room, Book Keeper was able to restore his power balance. Though they would find it strange, he knew how important it was so that he could continue moving. He turned back to the wall and spoke, "Regenerate." It took a little bit of time, but he managed to reverse the decay he had caused, enough to regain some strength. His movements were no longer restricted due to his unbalanced casting.

With that, Book Keeper turned to the group, "It sounded like there's a security force that responds to the damage we caused. If it's anything like the room, that could mean trouble, so be wary." He walked up to join the group as he spoke, "However, from what I saw in there, our powers should be more than enough to handle them. So long as we don't exhaust ourselves, and pace how we use our abilities, we should be ok." This was more a warning to himself, as he had almost made that mistake. Book Keeper hoped that there would be no reason for such heavy uses of his powers in the near future.

"Does anyone have abilities they can use to navigate? I think getting out of here is our most important goal, and it would be nice if we didn't get lost while doing that. It could also mean we can avoid some unnecessary fights." Book Keeper looks around expectantly, hoping someone here had sensory powers.

The nanite-infused girl saw the computer interface attached to the wall, glowing a bright and almost-neon green. Normally she would have jumped at the console, plugging away at commands or exploring the interface to see what information she can garner - trying to piece out what was happening; why the sirens were blazing loud, why their "testing" seemed to have been cut off short, but most importantly where in the world those Assessors were. Megella still had score to settle with them after all.

Yet she knew that there was one in the group who was probably more suited to such tasks, so instead Megella stood her ground focusing on the immediate area, but focusing on the hallway ahead of them. If there were more surprises left by the Assessors, or otherwise, Megella would prefer to be prepared than not. After all, Megella definitely loved surprises.

"Feel free to do what you heroes do best. For me, I can sesnse our surroundings. Let's not all get thrown into some power-sucking room like last time", Megella said in her low indifferent voice.

With just a slight effort she sent her mind-probe forward taking in an innate feel of the surrounding around her.

[spoiler]She'll use her powers to feel what's around them, but focus on the hallways ahead. She'll tell the group of her findings.[/spoiler]

Seth looked at the scene and around at the motley crew that had been formed. Everyone was on edge the feeling of danger and adrenaline buzzing alive in the air along with the ozone he could smell. "Emotions are running high here and that's exactly what we don't need right now." Seth began whispering under his breath focusing a small amount of his energy out into the air around him giving of a calming and focusing aura. "Hopefully this will help us see whatever is coming next before we get caught of guard again." He wished in his head.

As Odie exited the room it looked as if they were not going to be attacked immediately.  This brief moment of reprieve seemed well earned after that hellhole they just came from. Looking at the computer console he went over to it hungry for new information. He hadn?t been able to get on the web this morning before the exercises began and was becoming bored with the info. he had.  Maybe it would be able to tell them where they were and give them an idea of where they could go to get out of this situation.  Maybe he could download some encyclopedias and cross reference them while they escaped from this dangerous situation.  He could then cross reference contradictions and do research into the true events that took place.  The edited version would then be sent home.

?I?m going to access this terminal and see if I can find us a way out of here,? he said as he walked up to the access panel.  He didn?t think they needed to know about the encyclopedias.

[catbar]Nao - Specter PASSING [/catbar]

I'm assuming that Specter is still in his mist form

[catbar] Book Keeper [/catbar]
The hole regenerates back to the metal it originally was, there is no evidence that the wall was ever breached, save for the hanging wires. Balance has been restored, you feel refreshed and renewed.
ACTIVE EFFECTS: Falcon Cry, You feel more aware and ready to react.

[catbar] Mind Sense [/catbar]
You sense the buzzing and pulsing of fiber optic components in the wall, the area feels secure and it appears that this level is maze like. Even with your senses you are unable to determine an exit or any sort of egress to the next level. You did notice one peculiar thing the walls further ahead seemed to be in a constant state of dimensional flux.
ACTIVE EFFECTS: Falcon Cry, You feel more aware and ready to react.

[catbar] Sigil [/catbar]
You cast Falcon' Cry, the air around you seethes with energy as a yellow sphere of energy surrounds the party.
ACTIVE EFFECTS: Falcon Cry, you feel more aware and ready to react. There are no penalties for this neutral spell.

[catbar] Odie [/catbar]
Information pours from the terminal, your body glows as it absorbs every iota of data as it flows from the all the systems it is connected to. You encounter a an area that contains classified data, but with few changes in the base code you rewrite the database allowing you access, literal child's play for one such as you. Suddenly your defensive systems sense a surge of energy being redirected at you, you realize that you have a few nanoseconds of time before the first pulse hits your systems, but before it strikes you are able to get one piece of information, your on level 77...

You can continue to maintain your link to glean more information or disconnect before the pulse hits
ACTIVE EFFECTS: Falcon Cry, you feel more aware and ready to react.

It felt good to connect to the computer.  He could tell that the system was connected to many parts of the facility but he wasn?t able to get too much about the floor they were on exactly.  ?We?re on floor 77 in this facility,? he says as he continues to let the access panel speak to him.

All of a sudden he felt what some would describe as a shot of cocaine in the arm.  He was aware of each separate file merging with his system as it integrated itself into his being.  The feeling of oneness was acute and he was also able to become very aware of his physical surroundings.  He could only attribute it to the yellow aura that surrounded them suddenly.  That?s when he sensed the energy surge being directed at him.

He knew the system would try and defend its self, and had been willing to disconnect when said defense protocol initiated.  But, with the newfound alertness and improvement to his reaction speed, Odie felt that he could attempt to impede the surges progress long enough to glean one more piece of relevant information from the terminal before disconnecting.

The girl furrowed her eyes, unsure what to make of the "readings" that she obtained from her senses. It was as if the the walls ahead were constantly revolving from a state of being here and a state of being not here. It was a unique and strange feeling, something that Megella hasn't yet encountered before. Though, with all the supers and heroes that were once in this complex, perhaps it wasn't so surprising that there would be phenomena no one in the group had ever encountered.

"77th floor already? I swear we went into that power-sucking room from their main lobby. The talented and skilled architects of this place either thought putting the main entrance to their building on the 77th floor was a good idea, that room we were just in acted as an elevator, or we were somehow transported here." She glanced back at the now-closed wall where the group had emerged.

"I don't suppose any of you have any abilities that can determine that?" But as she did so, she placed her hands on the newly formed wall that the Russian kid created.

[spoiler]She'll send her sensing power into THE VERY WALL ITSELF. See if she can determine how they were on the 77th floor. She'll also try to see if she can get any information on the dimensional flux she felt earlier.[/spoiler]

Seth maintained the flow of magic while at the same time using the affects of the spell himself. Pushing what little life energy and magical essence sensing ability's he had to the limit with the spell. Seth searched the corridors ahead with his mind. He knew he wouldn't get much if anything but even the smallest amount of information might help in the end. If only he had thought to carry his cell phone or something with him he might be able to call Leon for help. although it might not have done anything it still would have been nice all the same.

"He must be totally freaked out right now since I haven't come home I only hope he doesn't get Grandma involved." Rolling his eyes he could only imagine what his family would do if they found out about his new pastime. But first things first he and everyone else had to get out before worrying about any of that stuff.

The empty, grey hallway seemed amicable enough, if not bland. However, combine that with the now-annoying flashing of the lights overhead and the equally annoying, but dangerous, sparks coming from falling wires and the entire area seemed as hospitable as a war-zone.

"Nice place."

Seeing the others take action then, Nao opted to follow suite. He made his way back to the nearby wall, removing his gloves as he did so. He sighed, shrugged after a brief moment of hesitation, then placed his hand on the thing.

It'd be nice to get a good layout of the place, he thought. Even better, if the attempt doesn't kill me.

The chaos had passed for the moment allowing them a brief respite. Jin felt the desire to relax and just head out the door to see his grandfather. Yeah it was a bit clich? but sometimes that was better than the alternative. He had read enough comic books to know what happens to the faithful hero. But after a quick survey of the group none were better equipped to take on the task of moving ahead as he.

His voice drifted through the party like a gentle breeze, ?I will scout up ahead. If any of you should come up with a good exit strategy pass it up. Perhaps our luck will hold out and this can continue to play out as an action film instead of a horror flick. Otherwise I could very well be doomed, going first and all.? A soft chuckle carried on the wind in his passing.

Jin presses forward cautiously moving at a slow pace.

[spoiler]He will continue forward till a significant find drives him back towards the party. [/spoiler]

"Well considering that we are on the 77th floor...exit will be difficult...We'll have to work on getting down stairs first...it's hard to believe that that room might have worked as some sort of elevator...I don't remember going up anywhere..." Book Keeper stands there for a moment, thinking and mumbling. Strange as it is, this almost seems to suit the kid. Suddenly, he breaks out of his thoughts. "I'll go with you, Jin. If anything goes bad, I can heal us. Also, I'm small, so I shouldn't be too obvious for stealth purposes."

It's the least I can do after being so useless in the room... Book Keeper thinks to himself.

QuoteOkay so I'll be introducing some of the damage mechanics in this next scenario. Every character will have a STATUS section that they need to copy and paste into their character response before their post, this is to show that you have read and understand your current status.
SCT = Section of injury/damage.
DMG = Percentage of damage/Type of Damage if known.
ERT = Estimated Recovery/Repair Time.
MND = Condition of mind will and emotions - ranges from CALM to TERRIFIED

Percentage of Damage
01-05% - Laughable - if you complain about this your a big wuss.
06-15% - barely noticable - This is the boo-boo's that mommy use to kiss
16%-25% - uncomfortable - It only hurts if you bump it.
26%-36% - painful - It bothers you enough for it to impede your actions, I wouldn't run any marathons.
37%-47% - lacerated - Yep it's bleeding, I would look for some help or at least a first aid kit.
48%-56% - bleeding level 1 - If you don't stop the bleeding soon it could go to level 2.
57%-70% - bleeding level 2 - See there you didn't listen now look at you, you should get that looked at before level 3.
71%-80% - bleeding level 3 - Okay now your bleeding all over the place this could get nasty.
81%-90% - Missing Limb - Now where did I put that...
91%-100% - Unconscious - Your bleeding to death and have now passed out, please don't run after any tunnels of light. I mean it really stay away from them.
101% + - Hmm time to notify the next of kin.

[catbar][Odie][/catbar]
Your system surges with a overload of information, you relish every second that you are able to maintain contact with the system, almost boarding on a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Your automated defense systems activate countering as much of the overload as possible. But then something happens, something that you cannot analyze or clarify, something appears to be trying to communicate with you, you can almost reach the epicenter of whatever is trying to connect with you, when suddenly the connection is broken and the surge of energy slams into your chasis. You are hurled from the interface to the opposing wall, your back impacts with the hard surface and your optics flare out briefly, while your system attempts to analyze the data.

[STATUS]
Odie is able to talk and to communicate as well as move around, while in this state however any action that requires his optical sensors will be at a extreme disadvantage.

CURRENT DAMAGE:

SCTOptical Sensors (eyes)
DMG27% (IMPACT)
ERT1 hour(s)

Also from now on, Odie should always be analyzing stuff, as this takes time, just give me a list of 5 items that Odie would be analyzing, I'll give you the following to help the process along.

CURRENT ANALYSIS:

[catbar][Mind Sense][/catbar]
As you touch the wall, you let your self relax as a sense of calmness overcomes you, you let your senses drift out into the void ahead, allowing them to trace the path of the wall. The walls ahead seeme to reverbrate with some sort of energy you are somehow strangely familiar with. You focus on the energies allowing them to bathe you in their familiarity...

You see a face, its unclear at first but gradually begins to become more opaque as the scene around you seems to dance uncontrollably. The face is smiling that much you are certain of, but something is wrong, horribly wrong it is disfigured, burnt and twisted.

suddenly the calmness ends now replaced by a sense of dread, you feel trapped as you can feel the heat of intense tongue of flames lapping at your feet, your arms are bound tightly to the walls. You physically scream out as the pain is so great, yet in the severity of the pain you hear something, muffled at first than suddenly clear.

"Czuildsr..", you hear a voice speak,

"Child...save me..up-side down..."

You scream again as the pain intesifies...

All party memebers see Mind Sense scream and writhe as if in pain unable to pull herself from the wall.

[STATUS]
In Pain (No Physical damage)

[catbar][Nao][/catbar]
You place your hand on the wall, it feels cool and metallic to the touch, nothing unusual there. You continue to let yourself examine the surface finding imperfections in its most liklely massed produced layout. The metal seems oddly simple, yet somehow deceptively complex. You stretch out further letting your self become part of the wall, you feel its twists and turns and odd shifts in the design perhaps some color depraved designer's wish to add a splotch of red and blue to break the monotony. Then the surface changes as you let yourself drift even further, it becomes coarse and pitted with tiny holes that seem to move away from your searching. Then suddenly for some inexplicable reason your hear a sound.. wait this can't be right.. cats?

[catbar][Specter - Book Keeper][/catbar]
You were looking forward to drifting in your normal relaxed state to do what you were trained to do, to let your mind go and think things through. After everything that had happened you needed to clear you head, to figure things out, as it were. You sigh as the youngest member of the party looks at you with coke bottle glasses. He smiles briefly than looks away, clearly shy. You were so looking forward to doing this alone. You say nothing but simply nod your head forward, the kid, gleefully though subdued follows your lead.

The hall continues for some feet, then suddenly stops abruptly at a large pulsating chamber, within is what appears to be a figure who oddly enough is bathed in light that flashes white then blue then green, in rapid succession, it almost gives you both a headache. There are no turns or exits as far as you can tell, except back the way you came.

"No private I want you to keep me in suspense all day." he stared sarcastically at the young recruit, seeing no response he sighed and then nodded."

"Captain", a face appeared on the screen covered except for his eyes. The pulsating symbol of the commando elite division centered on the forehead of his mask. It was meant to be intimidating, and in this case, it was.

"Sergeant", Virgil responded. "You have a report to make?"

"Yes sir, We've combed the upper levels, it appears the buildings recognition systems are not functioning correctly. Our tech believes that SNTRY has locked itself down. We are currently trying to determine what caused the lock down, besides the obvious of course...sir."

"The Attack?"

"Affirmative.."

"Any survivors Sargent?"

"We cannot confirm nor deny that anyone survived. Sir"

"Understood, I expect hourly reports keep a lookout for our new supers. Command out.", the image phased from the screen. He turned away from screen swiveling his chair around. "Simmons, have established outside communications yet?"

Simmons faced a large screen showing the entire layout of the building, "Not as of yet Captain, but we are working on it. We do however have limited internal communications. One way only. Not sure of the range though captain."

"Understood keep me posted." Edward Virgil rubbed his head, the pain was starting again... he should have stayed in bed.

Book Keeper immediately turns around at the screams echoing down the hall. "I'm heading back. There's no way I can ignore those screams. Keep scouting, and be cautious."

With that, Book Keeper uttered a whisper, teleporting a short distance down the hall. He was out of sight in seconds, blinking his way toward the screams. What in the world could cause a death knell like that without actually killing her...it must be torture... Book Keeper reasoned to himself. I'm not sure what my powers can do for her, but I can take care of any physical wounds...Just don't die...

Book Keeper suddenly appears among the group again, seeing Mind Sense pressed to the wall, experiencing excruciating pain. However, with the way her hands stayed stationary, Book Keeper knew that the pain was coming FROM the wall. He wasn't sure of the pain's nature, but knew they had to get her away from it. "Quick, someone pull her from the wall!"

Things happened before Seth could even register it. The giant man of metal first sparked and then jettisoned across the hall and into the opposing wall slumped over. Then the girl in the metal suit seemingly at the same moment let out a scream unable to detach herself from the wall.

Seth ended his spell the next moment as the young boy that had gone ahead came running back. Seth didn't hear what he said he was more concerned about the girl. He acted without even realizing it. Quickly grabbing a medium chunk of wall that the metal robot had created from his impact and rapped it in a large scrap of cloth  forming a medium knot. He didn't know what kind of damage would happen if he tried to pull her off.

He Swiftly moved and placed the knot in her mouth it wouldn't gag her but would be enough to keep her from swallowing her own tongue or biting it off. Holding her close he did what he could to sooth her with his powers hoping it would give her enough strength to keep her from thrashing around. Her actions seemed like his own night terrors so he did his best to do exactly what Leon said he did.

[spoiler]Sigil uses falcon's cry directly on mindsense while stabilizing her from behind and keeping the length of cloth in her mouth to both force her to breath through her nose, stop the screaming so as to not damage her throat and keep her from chocking on her own tounge. The spell should also help her break through the memories all tough Seth most likely wouldn't realize.[/spoiler]

In Pain (No Physical damage)

The pain was excrutiating, but more than the physical pain that assaulted her, the terror that filled her did nothing to help soothe the trauma. It only added to her agitation and though she resisted, she couldn't help but buckle to rising sense of panic. She saw the smiling yet disfigured and burnt figure; its features so ghastly torn and twisted that it was hard to even recognize who the figure could have been. That alone would have been enough to send chills down her spine, but in less than a moment the surroundings she felt all around her changed.

Suddenly she was back there. To the day when she first donned the suit; to the day she lost her father. Yet this time, there was no suit nearby, there was no parting gift, there was no revenge, there was no plan. There was nothing but flames that roared hungrily all around her, shooting forth their tendrils, teasing the panicked girl as they danced agnoizingly around her. There was no escape and there was no refuge, and it was all Megella could do but scream in terror as the flames bit into her; the searing pain spanning her entire body. She yelled and screamed trying to mentally block off the pain, to focus on the sound of yelling, to focus on anything else but the fires. But her concentration was already gone, her will already dissipiating, replaced by the more primal feeling of fear.

Rules and laws always being a part of her, there was a part of her that still held on to reason. Yet even though there was that small part that told her it was nothing but her imagination, what she saw seemed too real. She blinked her already tear-filled eyes; she wanted to move, to get away from the burning fires, but yet she couldn't. She felt like her legs were stuck, her arms in a similar state. It was then that she heard a voice.

"Child...save me..up-side down..." It said clearly in her mind. Megella would have held on to that momentary serene feeling, but the respite only lasted a second, and again she was thrown back into the pit of fires; assaulted with the pain of the flames that continued to devour her. It was then that she felt something in her mouth. At first she gagged, but as the moments drew longer, for just a moment it seemed as if her clouded mind filled with pain seemed to echo less blatantly.

[spoiler]I'll wait for Hasabushi's next post of how Sigil's spell would affect her before I continue.[/spoiler]

Epic (healthy)

His face was pale, his breathing ragged, Nao's eyes ran wild as he detached himself from the wall. He spotted the tin can being blasted and the she-can writhe in pain. Those seemed like serious situations, but a few others were already onto the situation, making moot any aid he could offer. But despite all their effort, there was something even MORE serious just lurking around the corner. The young man spent a brief moment to fully digest his findings before turning to the rest of the group.

"Guys, serious news..."

He then waited a moment as the others finished their respective tasks before uttering a single, dreadful word:

[spoiler][catbar]"Cats."[/catbar][/spoiler]

"Anyways, we'll wanna go down... this... no, THIS way," Nao finally decided, pointing towards the path that would lead to the dreadful beasts.

As the information flowed through Odie, he was excited about how many different things these Assessors had their fingers in.  From all of the different routes that opened up to him he could tell that they were very multifaceted. So when he encountered some type of entity lodged within the system, he thought that it might have been an A.I. that they were using to coordinate the vast wealth of information they had at their disposal.

When the shock sent him crashing into the wall he didn?t notice it immediately.  He was so absorbed in his data collection that he had temporarily stopped paying attention to his physical body.  As he came to, he realized that his optical sensors had been damaged and set about the repair process.  It was about then that he heard the screaming.

The robotic woman was attached to the wall almost as if she was being shocked.  The pain was coursing through her but she seemed unable to release herself from the cause of her torment. The way the other man was treating her he looked as if he didn?t want to forcefully break the contact that the woman had with the wall. Odie steps up to the woman and begins enhancing her nanites so that they might give her enough strength to sever the connection and also repair some of the damage that was caused.

Jin watches his newest companion quickly abandon the scouting position in order to return to the party. The reasons were irrelevant, as he worked best alone.  The young man stepped into the strange flashing rainbow style room, in order to better gauge the newest obstacle. His senses were tuned in the event things should quickly turn hostile.

His voice carried on the wind, drifting from all directions, "Well you are quite the colorful one."

You quickly yell to those who are remaining, and your cry is responded too, you feel a sense of relief as your bravery has started to reveal itself. Though you also feel slightly disgusted at yourself for having left Specter behind, surely he can take care of himself, you think.

"Well this is new" He said feeling his heart beat faster due to the sudden assault to his senses. He didn't have much time to take stock of his situation before he took note of the four ambling forms that looked suspiciously like zombies, as well as the screaming figure of a young girl on her knees next to him. Ignoring the surrounding danger Seth remained focused to the task at hand in particular trying to figure out how to quell this girls obvious pain and how this entire thing was connected to his cybernetic companion. Looking at the girl in more detail it stuck him why he felt he had seen her from somewhere before. The girl here in this blaze, and the one in the tower were one and the same.

"That must mean that this whole thing is some kind of nightmare or traumatic memory based of how young she looks here" he thought to himself blushing slightly because he felt like he was intruding on something he shouldn't otherwise be seeing. "No don't think about that right now" he said shaking his head to clear his mind. If this was someone elses memories then that meant that meant that he was an interloper in whatever the wall was doing to Mindsense. Maybe if he could get her to work through the scenario to the end whatever had a hold of her mind would lose its grip on her psyche. The only problem being he couldn't both shepherd her along, while protecting her and fight off any of the ghouls that might appear to get in their way.

Then an idea struck him, "Since he was a separate entity maybe using something from his own past he could create something that he could use as a sword and a shield." One person came to mind, "if she was here then everything would be alright nothing would be able to touch them." Seth's savor and master if he could even summon an iota of her presence then they could blast through this trial. Crouching down to mind senses level he closed his eyes and concentrated on what he could remember of the only time he had seen her face the day she had pulled him free from that car. Clutching at the armband on his upper left arm he pulled at his own memory.

Her scent filled his nose fresh flowers and oranges. Her shadowed silhouette strong against the burning flames. The sound of her earrings small bells chiming seemingly silencing everything else. The sheer aura of wild authority only personified by that cocky half smile. He could feel a warmth coming from the armlet perhaps pulling on some aspect of some pf her power that had been left behind by the years of use. The warmth was comforting, as well as freeing as Sigil attempted to create a representation of his master within this metaphysical space or the very least cloak himself in her presence.

You have successfully created a very basic representation of your master, you see a shadow of a figure standing before you. Her eyes, smile and smell all bring an air of familiarity, but something is "off" about her, though at the moment you can't quite put your finger on it. You suddenly hear a bone chilling sound that speaks from the flames where the creatures stir.. "Don't Belong Here..."

It was all Mindsense could do as she gasped for air while the flames continued to bite into her; she was still filled with terror, screaming insistently at her unseen horrors. Though the pain kept lashing out at her, she was doing all she could to hold it off. Even though she saw nothing but the fires around her and the disturbing figure of the burnt and twisted man, she felt the presence of others with her. There was a calmness and strength somewhere that was helping her fight. Her mind was already racked in pain, and it was hard for her to determine who or what it was that was giving her a measure of calmness. She was already lost in the confusion and onslaught of the mental terrors that attacked her, but the part of her that still held on to reason desperately reached out and clasped upon those supports that helped balance and stabilize her.

She thought of her father then and it was that which pulled her through; unseen hands, pulling her from her terror-filled nightmares. She felt the presence of two of her companions. Though she wasn't sure if they were actually there with her, or if they were simply a way her own subconscious mind was feeding her information. She started feeling a familiarity then, though she couldn't quite pinpoint where it was coming from. "F-father?" She tried to yell into the flames, though her voice was hoarse and quivered in pain as she did so. But there was no response. Only four sets of eyes that stared back at her, their bodies hidden in the crimson fires that surrounded them.

It sent chills down her spine, but still, it paled in comparison with the flames that roared around her, biting into her flesh.

Opening his eyes Seth found a shadow image of his master standing before him. He had only seen her in person once and had gotten the rest of information from the handful of letters he had received from her along with what rumors he could dig up on the internet so he wasn't surprised that this representation of her seemed somehow not normal. But this image held his perspective at the heart of which was a handful of lines from, their very first correspondence. "Remember to forge your own path with your own convictions, or else life is not worth living."
Those words were his teacher's creed and something that he now to held dear ever since he had gotten the first true sense of what real freedom was like. This was his first choice to make sure they all got out of this ordeal alive and hopefully none the worse for ware. Looking at this shadow he new he gave it his own sense of justice and wondered just how much the armband he could feel humming against his skin contributed on its own. Then Seth heard something that further  shook him out of his thoughts the horse cry of the girl surronded by flames calling for her farther.

"I won't allow this to go on any longer." he said allowing his convictions to spur him onward. pointing to the four ambling figures along with the wall of flame he turned to the shade and said "Please, help me find protect this girl and clear a path dear master I cannot break these shackles alone". He used the words he knew from the letters had meant a great deal to the actual Lorelai and her hatred of those who would purposely try to control her and everything she held dear, which he in a way was now apart of. He went a step further and attempted to feed the armband his reasons hoping that to would help move the image to action.

With that he turned his attention to the girl her pain was palpable and he knew that it was most likely only feeding this nightmare further. he had to get control away from whatever was causing this nightmare. putting on an air of confidence  that he himself had felt he had been saved along wit the self assured strength he so often saw Leon have that allowed him to feel weak when he needed. He swiftly moved in front of the girl, so that she could see neither the horrors or the flame sheltering her.

"Shh, everything is going to be okay your not alone anymore." he whispered, "Don't focus on the pain. Take a moment and gather your strength, then we'll find your father okay? I promise." he said making sure he acted as both a physical and mental support all the while trying to separate her from the world around her.

The creatures beyond the flame seemed to have a sense of purpose as they trudged on slowly but unerringly so through the flame. As Sigil had feared the overwhelmed Mind Sense, did not respond but become even more so involved in what lay before her. "She is weak and your words will console her not, I though you of stronger stuff..", you master speaks her last words resulting in a crooked smile. She points across the room, to something on a table an object silver in color. "A soulsword..." Unfortunately it also appears to be on a foot or so from the lumbering forms heading your way.

Seth couldn't help but feel a slight pang of childish defiance at that last comment from the shadow form of his master. Even though he knew it was simply his own heart voicing itself he couldn't help but feel a little indignant about the fact that this truth was being said out loud. He shook his head free of such thoughts regardless of his own feelings he had something more important to focus on at the moment if he allowed those ambling figures close to her there would be no telling what could happen to her psyche. He had to break her free even slightly from her bonds of fear if he hoped to make any progress to escaping. If only there was someway to completely blanket her in his magic that might provide the barrier he needed to reach toward her reeling mind. The key was finding a way to battle the nightmares without causing further damage to the girl. The sword on the table that Seth wasn?t even sure had existed a moment before may be the only option.
He had his objective and so now he simply had to act and those shambling nightmares did very little to scare him at the moment.

?OK, first things first?, Sigil grabbed his clock and draped it across the quivering girl. Filling the cloth with thoughts of safety and warmth from his own memory. Moments with his parents, his grandmother, his extended family, as well as Leon and his master all flashed before him and into the fabric. Hopefully this will act as enough of a shield he thought to himself before really turning to face his environment head on. This was exactly like the miniature garden he used to train his own magical arts without stressing his physical body. This is going to be a pain he thought to himself while gritting his teeth slightly. No that would not do it would only end up getting hurt if he did not stay calm. Closing his eyes he took a deep breath going through the steps in his head that he always did before starting his training. Deep even breathing, check. Steady heartbeat, check. Closing off ones physical senses, check. Seth was lost in a complete void as he slowly opened his own sixth sense allowing his to focus solely on the magical energies around him and his goal.

In that moment he existed in a near void with only lights of aura as markers including a ghostly silver representing the sword. He began moving as he always did through visualization. The art of Tai Chi quan and the other bits of martial arts his master had taught him were meant to improve and control the circulation of energy in the body and that included magical energy. Even though in normal circumstances he could only visualize and practice in the miniature garden the muscle memory still takes affect regardless. At the moment he did not think only moved experiencing the freedom that it held that his master always said was like bliss. He would get that blade regardless of what came his way so was his resolution. His aura flared like a beast ready for the hunt he was going to break this illusion with his mind and iron will no matter what for both his and Mindsense's sake.

[info]Because Seth was using the original illusion that both he and Mindsense are trapped in to create the shadow image I thought of her as self sustained as long as the original illusion is intact. She is on their side because of the memories Seth used and iris innate nature that could not be twisted.[/info]

Mind Sense:

The image of your father, the fire suddenly begins to melt and  then disappears all together...

The scene rapidly changes, it's as if you entered a dream state, the surroundings are "fuzzy" barely visible. You turn and see  the kindly face of a woman, her eyes look worn and tired, though she manages to smile...

(http://[url=http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b448/Malgray/Isabella2_zpsa3bf9b00.png%5Dhttp://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b448/Malgray/Isabella2_zpsa3bf9b00.png%5B/url%5D)You smile back at her ashen colored face...

The room changes around you as you sit holding her hand next to a floating hospital bed, it's hum along with the woman's attempts at breathing ,the only sound in the room...

Strangely the cool clamminess of her hand is a comfort...

You smile again and stroke her hair. with your other hand, lightly kissing her on the forehead, the saltiness of her sweat lingers on your lips as you pull away...

"They are coming.." she whispers hoarsely "You must be ready...in the coming days...you must free me...the only way...", she forces a breath in and continues. "..the sword..the path..the way... all the same..", She relaxes waiting as if waiting for a response.

Sigil:

As you enter the void, your senses come alive as you search the "spaces between" listening, feeling, looking. All seems to fade except for the aura's that you search for, but you also feel that something is wrong, that you can't quite put your finger on.

"You feel strained tired.. Why don't your rest... Rest is good for you... Just close your eyes, Relax...", a voice calls from the void.
Title: Re: Chapter 1: The Menace

Seth felt his mind give slightly to the pull of the mysterious voice. He was so tired to begin with from everything that had compounded on top of his shoulder in such a short time. Using so much magic as he already had he was surprised he was conscious let alone able to do what he was doing. He remained focused however he wasn?t about to loss here no matter how tired he was he had people depending on him. If he wanted to really be someone who other could call a hero he would not allow himself to be done just because he was tired. He had enough of always following others orders anyway so he figured a little defiance was called for. Smirking slightly he began to move towards the aura he knew to be the blade.

He stumbled however in mid motion after the first couple twists and turns. The alluring pull of the voice was almost too hard to resist. ?If I open my eyes then the illusion will simply comeback full force and I?ll be that much more caught in this things web, dammit!? Seth bit down hard on his lower lip quickly tasting the metallic tang of his own blood.  The pain helped clear the haze slightly and just making him more frustrated in the process.

?I?m sick and tired of feeling trapped and useless!?

Seth?s declaration might have been loud and with power but he really needed help if he wanted to succeed.  Reaching out for anything that could help in that fight with this unseen opponent. Reaching out for the shadow of his master for assistance he hoped knew they could pull something off, however he also found a blackish flame of aura coming from his black pocket. The tarot cards that Leon had given him. He carried them now as a good luck charm and had forgot about them in the moment. They held a fragment of their bond. Pulling on that and his other bonds for everything there worth and his armlet warm against his skin he kept him moving forward until he was right on top of the sword and grabbed the hilt leaning on the table for strength. The soothing voice drowned out with his own loud thoughts and defiant emotions

?Got ya!? he breathed before opening his eyes and seeing his new surroundings unsure if the new surroundings meant that new troubles were ahead now that he had his prize. He was not going to lose now he?d be a disgrace of a Prendergast if he failed at this point. He could only see their glances of disdain and jeers. This was his first real test and he?d make sure he?d ace it with flying colors let the horrors of the void bring it?s worst! "They were both getting out of this mess!" he screamed swinging the blade high gripping the hilt tight with both hands.

It was as if she was dreaming. While the fires that had surrounded her felt real and tangible, where she was now felt something entirely different. Just like a dream, she didn't respond in the normal way one would upon the events, it was almost as if she were watching herself move and take action. She knew what was happening around her, yet it felt surreal and before she knew it she was smiling at the kindly ashen face of a woman. She didn't think about what had happened before, of the sense of familiarity, of the burning dread she had just experienced. There was nothing but the hospital-like room and the lady in the bed. For one reason or another Mindsense felt comfortable around her.

"What do you mean?" Mindsense asked as she felt herself worry that the lady was straining herself.

Book Keeper had no idea what exactly was going on, but he knew that touching the two of them would possibly trap him as well, and what use would 3 unconscious superhumans be? There has to be a way to aid them... From the contortions of their faces, he could tell there was some sort of mental struggle.

Book Keeper could only think of a few things. I could decay the wall at her hands...but that may not solve the problem...I'm not practiced in mental power words, but if I put enough behind it, I could probably get a minor effect. Anything to knock them out of this comatose state...wait, comatose! That might work!

Viktor pulls out one of his books, flipping quickly to the proper page. I've never had much reason to use this one, so I nearly forgot. Viktor then assumed the sturdiest speaking pose possible, then read aloud, practically screaming for the best effect.

"RESTORE!"

The word reverberated throughout the immediate area, the walls even shaking with his command. The most effected, however, was the focal point: Mind Sense and Sigil. Viktor believed, wholeheartedly, that this would snap them out of whatever was tormenting them. Then it hit him, the fatigue. He had to kneel to catch his breath after such an extensive use of his power. And even after my warning earlier, I still did it. Viktor, you need to start taking your own advice...

Gripping the weapon even tighter he attempted to make contact with the presence. At a distance he let his mind be guided to that energy if he could make a simple connection perhaps he could get the upper hand on their precarious situation. Her mind was empty, as she furrowed her eyebrows, or what felt like her eyebrows, confused at the question. What did the woman mean by warlock? She tried thinking about it, but there was nothing coming to mind. She felt the inklings as if she was forgetting something. Magic... a room... alarms? She sighed.

"I'm not sure I know this warlock." Mindsense asked. Uncharacteristically, she was being gentle. She didn't know what made her feel that way, but something about the woman, or perhaps where she was, made her feel compelled to do so. But as she stood there, there was a nagging question pushing itself into her mind.

Where am I?

Book Keeper
You release the power word and the room around you suddenly changes suddenly before your eyes you see Sigil appear, or at least a half visible version of the wizard.

Sigil
As you attempt to make contact with whatever is in the astral, you feel the entire plane around you reverberate, as you here the word "RESTORE!" you feel yourself being pulled no.. shoved toward the location of the sound all the air around begins to hum violently as you feel ripped from the astral, you try to scream but nothing comes out of your mouth... you feel exhausted. Its this moment that you see Book Keeper, his face looking surprisingly at you.

MindSense
"I'm not sure I know this warlock."

"No, no I'm sure that you do not, although you will, you have and you won't know him."

"Where am I?"

The lady looked at you for a moment then smiled again, "Perhaps you're wondering where you are?" she smiles even more so, slightly giggling her face locked in soft yet comical look. "Of course you are, you are...how can I put this? You are in your on being. I guess that's the best way to put although it is a bit metaphysical. Oh all right, here take this, it will help you find the answers you seek. Remember young one all is not as it seems. Here or in 'Reality'..."

Suddenly room shakes violently, you feel the air humming at the same time you feel yourself being pulled. "Ah and so it begins remember what I told you young one.."

Seth blinked as body stiffness set in. Even with his magic supporting him he could feel his body hadn't been ready for such a strain. As well as that he wouldn't be standing freely for a while. They had been saved. Looking at the young kid who was looking over him he was grateful. really grateful in fact, but also angry he was close to finding answers to this mess and it was ripped away from his fingers without any warning.

"Thanks," He said surprised by how hoarse and dry his voiced sound for what he imagined was such a short time in whatever place he had been. Then he remembered, he had not been alone

"Where's the girl!?" He said panic rising to his eyes. Had he been the only one to escape? What if she was still trapped there stuck in her own mind. Glancing over to the wall were he thought he had been he saw her on the floor breathing easy. He let out a pent up sigh. Good she was safe.

He couldn't help but chuckle to himself. if his master or Leon could see him now not even a real hero yet what would they be saying? However it was only a bump in the road he was not finished yet.

Viktor was panting, still recovering from his ability strain. "You're...welcome..." Finally he was able to gather himself to his feet, and slowly moved himself over to the weakened ally on the ground. He nudged her a bit, seeing how conscious she was.

"Hey...are you alright? What happened? Seeing that she was not responding, or at least not yet, he turned around. "Sigil, what happened here?" He could tell it was some sort of mental attack, but found it hard to believe that just the wall would do that. Something strange occurred. Not that he was too surprised considering where they were.

"I have absolutely no clue." Seth said propping himself up slightly with his elbow "I think whatever's controling this place tried to hack into her mind and I somehow spliced my way in by accident."

Was this all still part of the test? If so they were failing badly Seth had no doubt. Who ever made and was maintaining this tower had incredible resources at there disposal. Rivaling if not surpassing his family's own. Seth found it unsettling how uncomfortable that thought made him. This whole experience was not going well in a matter of hours things had managed to go from bad to worse as they all bumbled around like blind rats in a maze. They needed something anything to get the upper hand even for a moment to get their bearings otherwise they could make no progress.

He wasn't to fond of the idea of dieing here having made nothing of himself and never being able to see his family again.

"We have to do something to figure out where to go and what to do next simply blindly stumbling into trap after trap will only succeed in getting us killed that much faster. I'm sick and tired of us failing at everything."

That was when Seth noticed "Hey kid weren't you following another guy ahead of us? Where is he?" Seth wasn't sure he could manage attempting something like he just a head again espeically with no rest. But they needed every able mind they had if they were going to get out alive.

Book Keeper's eyes widened, "Oh no, I left him behind when I heard the scream!" He says in realization. "You'll need to hold down here and make sure she's alright, I have to catch back up to him!"

With that, Book Keeper began teleporting short distances back to Spectre, knowing the wind mage might need his help. I hope he didn't get hurt!

This is exactly what he didn't want to happen there was strength on numbers and now they were greatly weakened. Seth wasn't even willing to attempt to stand at this point. Looking over at the girl going by the name of MindSense something caught his eye a stone in her hand that he was almost certain had not been there before.

It took awhile for Mindsense to overcome the dizziness and the blur of her vision. It was as if she was waking up from a heavy deep slumber. Though, not just any sort of slumber, it felt more akin to swimming up from the surface of whatever mental assault that had pervaded her. The visions she had seen were confusing, not to mention the myriad and swirling amount of emotions that were running through her during the episode. She remembered the words that the lady spoke to her. Was she another one of them? People with powers? Or something her mind had created to help shield her from the onslaught of terrors, pain, and fire that had assaulted her before the meeting.

In either way, she couldn't think clearly on the situation as she heard some of her companions talking. Only when she noticed the person looking over her did she gain a better sense of her consciousness. Megella felt his familiar presense and it reminded her of the same one she had felt back in her vision, if she could call it that. Sigil, she believed that was what the Assesors had called him.

"You're the one who helped?" Mindsense said as her eyes fluttered open. "Thanks... for what its worth. Sigil right?" As she began to sit up, she realized a black crystal clutched in her hand engraved with a curious symbol. She wasn't sure what it meant, nor did the symbol seem familiar to her.

"A rock? You wouldn't happen to know what the symbol is? Your name does sound like it's supposed to be related to symbols." She was already being sharp and sarcastic again as she was before the mental assault, though her voice had just slightly quivered. To Megella it was more of a defense-mechanism than anything else. In truth the whole events of another power holding control of her mind was frightening and disturbing, and the sights she had seen was something she would have preferred not to experience again. She was shaken, but she wouldn't let the others know. She didn't want to seem like a weak and pathetic fifteen year old.

Mindsense gritted her teeth and presented the crystal to Sigil, in case he knew what it was.

Seth was surprised to hear her use his name, he had thought he would go relatively unknown in comparison to some of the other people that had been tested by the Assessors. Hopefully she didn't try to grab it from his mind, he did not like the idea of people digging around his psyche for all his secrets, especially after what he just saw.  "Right, and forget about it its what heroes are supposed to do right. I'm sure I'll need to be saved  Although I do like the idea that we beat this stupid building at something." As Mindsense moved to show him the stone in more detail he scanned it over quickly. He tried to think about his readings on mystical writings and mineral properties if he could bring anything to the forefront of his mind.

Seth smirked at the next comment "It's good to see that your feeling good enough to wisecrack. You had me worried when you did not wake up right away." To be honest he was happy to be out of that nightmare. He was pretty well shaken from the whole experience to top it all off hiding his disability was not what his body wanted him to be doing at this moment. He had to wonder what Leon or his master would do if they saw this whole thing.

Any sense of time he had was shot after entering that dream like state what could have seemed like minutes could very well been seconds in the real world. "I wonder if my cell works in this place?" he thought aloud to himself as he went to dig in his pockets for it. it was a cheap flip phone that forwarded his calls and texts from the more high end cell sitting on his nightstand back at home. At a click of a button the entire thing could fry itself, a necessity he thought when he had bought it before he began really using his powers.

He would also gave to try to stand eventually he could not just lay half way slumped on the floor for ever. Whatever that kid had done to rip them out of that space did seem to give him some of his energy back, in fact it was the most amount of energy he had all night long, so it was worth giving it a shot.

Some Hours Later:

Seth brushed the remnants of what had happened from his mind, he needed to focus on the stone he held in his hand. His eyes lit up as he recited various incantations to attempt to unlock the secrets of the 'artifact' as it had been dubbed by the group.  Bookkeeper had returned finding no evidence of what had happened to Specter, his main focus now was attempting to revive the now non-functioning Odie unit. But none of his power words were working, he sighed briefly, taking a rest from his endeavors.

Mindsense sat studying a computer they found further into the tower. she stared at it keeping in mind what had happened to Odie, reluctant to try anything  rather than simply observe the information that populated the screen. Not far from her sat Nao, his mind filled with the horrors that might lay ahead, other than that he felt particularly 'stabby'.

As the group sat preoccupied. lights suddenly started to flash around them. The walls lit up as a pulsating pattern moved away from them further into a unknown explored area just ahead...

The panel that Mindsense was studying suddenly turned a bright red, as a distorted face appeared on the screen, the audio was even more distorted as it spoke one word..."RUN!"

Seth cursed loudly at the new development lights flashing brightly. He did not want to see to see what new surprises this fun house had in store for them all next two of them already seemed to be out of commission for the moment he didn't want to lose anyone or anything else.

He was ferreting away the artifact in one of his costumes hidden pockets when they heard the distorted voice over the computers speakers. He did not have to be told twice.

"We need to move, now!" He yelled looking down all sides of the hall for attackers. If only they had some kind of guidance or map to tell them where the hell they were supposed to be going.

Now wasn't  the time to complain however, "Hey kid, Book keeper right? Do you think you could miniaturize our sleeping giant to something more pocket sized? I don't want him found and stripped for parts!"

"Mind sense do you think you can figure out a way to boost the connection while we get out of here if someone knows we're here and wants to help we could use anything we want to give! We need to be running people so act fast!"

Sigil then went about helping the younger mage with the spell. While whatever the kid was using seemed powerful it also seemed wild and unwieldy. Perhaps he could act as a channeling conduit something to help direct and tame the energy into only doing what they wanted it to. Acting fast he grabbed the boy lightly by the shoulders attempting to summon his powers once more.

Book Keeper looked up at Sigil and nodded. He was still frustrated that he could seemingly do nothing to revive their robotic friend. But the least he could do was make it easier to get him out of here. Still, he was worried. "I have never tried shrinking anything but small, inanimate objects...I'm not sure if this will work, because I've never tried anything like it. After saying that, he turned back toward Odie, focusing and sharpening his will. Sure, I'm untrained in this, but worst case it doesn't work, just like the other words I tried. And anything this will do can be undone with my 'restore' command...I think.

With a deep breath, and the reassuring hand of Sigil on his shoulder, Book Keeper retrieved and opened his book to the word. He held his hand out toward Odie, reading it authoritatively.

"SHRINK!"

Mindsense had only ever used her powers to alter someone's senses on opponents and enemies, never in the fashion of attempting to help someone. Whenever she ventured into someone's mind, to her it was always represented as wires and cables, and with the correct application of her psionic abilities, she would be able to temporarily blind, disable, or fool an individual. She had always rewired senses to befuddle her victim, but would it be possible to rewire them in such a way to help an individual's own powers? Similar to how the nanites in her own body help help facilitate and awaken her dormant psionic abilities.

"Rewiring the connections in someone's head isn't as easy as it looks!" Her voice was complaining, but she knew the urgency of the situation, as she focused her mind ignoring the flashing lights. She focused her thoughts towards Book Keeper, entering his mind. Immediately she was greeted with the representation of wires and cables. Instead of rewiring them in such a way to 'stun' Book Keeper, identifying the link that helped produce his powers Mindsense pulled more wires and cables together, strengthening the connection and bond.

Book Keeper focused his energies on the task at hand, asking... no demanding that the universe obey his commands. He knew the power at his command sometimes he reveled in it, but mostly he feared it. Feared he would speak a word that would bring harm, or even worse death. It was this fear that kept him on the edge of control. He could always see the possibility of loosing that control, he dared not look over the edge or even acknowledge its existence, but it did restrain him, he knew that. It kept him from his full potential, the total power that he commanded if unleashed could be devastating. Even for his young age, he was wiser than most gave him credit for.

That's why he never quite believed in himself, till now...

The feeling was intense, unlike anything he had ever felt before. Confidence surged through his being as his eyes began to glow green with the power he was feeling.  A flow of pure unadulterated energy flowed through his being, he felt the universe at his beck and call. HE FELT LIKE A GOD!! As he spoke the word 'Shrink' he could see the strands of energy that flowed to the non-functioning android, he could see the translucent energy as he shifted and compressed the very molecules with his own thinking.

'No...Something is wrong', the young boy gasped his eyes flickering with the power he felt. Something was different he could feel it. He watched in horror as the energies took on a life of their own, circling outward from the android, it now stretched out wrapping itself around the room, shaking the foundations of reality. He could see Sigil being enveloped by the swirling vortex. Then all went black....

-------------------
You awaken to the face of a perplexed Sigil, he stares at you indignantly with a hit of concern on his face. Mindsense stands nearby her eyes apparently scanning you.

'All scans are normal', she says looking at Sigil.
Sigil nods
'You were out for a bit..there', he says helping you to your feet.

You open your eyes and stand shakily to your feet, you view the area around you. A single campfire sits in the middle of what appears to be a rather sparse forest, the ground is hard and grey and the smell of burning wood assaults your senses.

The first thing you notice is unconscious forms of three of your party. Odie, Specter & Nao around them a bluish energy field radiates around the three...

--------

The entire party has no clue what has happened.  Each of you awakened to the same imagery (Book Keeper being last), and have no clue what the energy field is that radiates around the the other three, it appears to be a force field, as any access to the other companions seems impossible. It is currently dusk and the fire seems to be the only source of light and heat.

Seth breathed a sigh of relief as the young boy awoke. From there forced nap. He was the first to wake up in the strange forest seeing three of the others in some kind of force field. Looking around he tried to bottle down the pure exasperation he was feeling. He was not enjoying being tossed around from one place to another be it do to magic or someone?s idea of fun. He tried to figure out if this place was simply an illusion like the testing room they were in before or if they had truly been warped to a different place due to the magic and who had built the fire in the first place. He was also attempting how best to free the other half of their small group from their apparent prisons.

The day just seemed to be getting worse and worse every moment that went by he could only take solace in the fact that eventually things would have to hit bottom and he could work his way up from there. With that in mind he was not about to let this night beat him no matter how tired or weak he felt he was no where close to giving the universe the satisfaction of besting him, Pulling out the burner cellphone while Bookkeeper warmed himself by the dying embers he tested for a signal he didn?t know what help his butler would be but perhaps he could contact his master to come and find them. They could use some help right about now.

Glancing over at the other two he said to no one in particular, ?So any idea what happened or where we are? Besides in the woods.?

Without waiting for an answer he sat cross-legged facing the three force fields trying to sense the type of energy and manipulate it to freeing them.

Book Keeper stod up with the help of his allies, but his mind was elsewhere. He'd never felt that sensation before, and never been so afraid. The feedback from and wild use of his power left him exhausted. He wasn't sure how he was even standing.

Did I cause this shift in reality? My powers reacted to something. But still, something is off. There's no reason for those three to be in a barrier like this...And if I did teleport it would only be to someplace familiar...do I know this place?

Book Keeper then began to look around, seeing if the forest was someplace he knew. I'll know what to do next if I can figure out whether or not I was the cause for the unconsciousness and change.

"What happened? Did I cause this?"

"Ever since those 'hero scouts', boring bunch of people, found us, everything's going to hell. I'm absolutely loving how things are turning out." Mindsense said sarcastically. "Does anyone else find it strange that an entire building full of super-powered people, with near-invincible Assessors lounging around are letting all this chaos happen? They're either a lot more incompetent than I previously thought or whatever power there is doing this is playing one really sick joke." She sighed as she moved her eyes away from Book Keeper, finishing up her own sensory scans of the young kid satisfied that she didn't see anything wrong with him. "I wouldn't be surprised if all this was just an elaborate test of some sort!" She really didn't believe that however, only making conversation to help alleviate the tense situation that they found themselves in.

"Personally though. I'm leaning towards the former. Never did like the Assessors anyways."

"Yeah, I have not been seeing to much that gives me confidence in the capabilities of the guys running that place if this kind of insanity can go one without anyone being able to do anything about it." Seth stopped trying to manipulate the energy for a few minutes. He could feel he was getting close to do something with that energy, but he did not want to run out of steam midway through and causing more problems. So he rested every few minutes to not get overly fatigued.

Leaning close to the fire he wondered if this whole thing was just another part of the test. It seemed far to excessive for no names like them though. Glancing around at the others he could not help but smirk at how pathetic he felt right now. They were stuck between a rock and a hard place who knows how far from home exhausted and lost exactly how he hoped to spend his Saturday night.

Taking the artifact out of his inner pocket he traced the grooves in the stone. Then an idea hit him could this thing have interfered with the kid's power? That might explain the teleport, but not why some of them were now frozen by energy fields. Seth closed his eyes trying to see if he could sense if the artifact had any residual energy to say that it responded.

Looking at Bookkeeper he could see a look of pained apology. It seemed he was not planning for his powers to go out of control.

"Hey BK, this isn't your fault okay? None of this is our fault. So relax no one is hurt and I promise we'll get this worked out and back home." He tried his best to give a reassuring smile. Even though he was still upset about all of it seating around fuming was not helping.

The person who lit the fire must be somewhere close by, but he had not heard or seen anyone since they had arrived, and he didn't want to call out for fear that it might attract unwanted guests. He doubted anyone was in any real condition to fend off threats. He then threw his burner cell at Mindsense who caught it, " You think you can make that thing work? Or at least use the SIM card to figure out where we are? Or better still track down who ever lit this fire?"

Feeling around in his pockets for anything that might help his hand meet with the box of tarot cards Leo had given him. They were supposed to answer questions right maybe if he did it right they would provide a clue on the best way to move forward. Clearing a patch of ground he began to shuffle the deck then drew card after card as he had been told hoping he would get some guidance. Afterward he returned once again to trying to free the others.

"If we were in my lab, I probably could throw something together." Mindsense said as she deftly caught the phone with her left hand. "I'm sure we're going to find some tools in this forest to hack this phone as a make-shift radar." She continued with a hint of sarcasm in her voice. However she proceeded to point towards the other three who were stuck in that strange force field.

"Tin man over there is probably our best bet to hack this into something else. But as you can see, he's really not in the mood right now." With that, Mindsense tossed the cellphone back. With three of them out of commission, randomly teleported to god knows where, it wasn't a situation that Megella liked at all. She wished her suit was more complete. The Crius II was still a prototype after all. In terms of functionality, Megella had already added on to her father's work, incorporating what plans and technical details she was able to salvage after their lab had burned down. She in fact had already been designing a Crius III. She made a mental note to herself to add some sort of GPS the next time around.

"So does anyone have any ideas to remove that force field? I have one, but it isn't entirely graceful." With that she proceeded to charge her arm cannon.

Viktor nods at the consolation from his companions, but isn't convinced. His powers had gone haywire, after all; he had felt it. Something had gone wrong, and he was still convinced he had some part to play in what had happened. There's no way I wasn't involved, but at least I know they aren't trying to beat on me for it...I've gone through enough of that. But he quickly shook himself from those thoughts, there were more important events to tend to.

"Well, for now, I think it's most important to know our surroundings. Someone lit this fire. Who and how are very important. With that, Viktor lifted up a stone, and spoke plainly. "Light."

The stone took on a somewhat eerie glow, casting off a cold, white light. Let's see what's past the firelight. Viktor thought as he tossed the stone out into the treeline.

Sigil looked at the cards in disbelief and utterly confused. He did the reading correctly he was sure of it, but the cards provided no clues as to what the future held only half answers that made no sense. Scooping up the cards again he shuffled the deck once more and repeated the process only to the same result.
"Damn it!" He said hitting the ground again staring at the many card faces. He was feeling utterly useless do to the lack of any kind of solid lead at the moment, and that was the feeling he hated the most. Was it even possible for tarot cards to not work right? The cards main purpose was to act as an interpretable medium for the energies. From what he learned everything in the world gives off all kinds of energies. It is those energies that govern things like random chance that the cards then interpret to form an answer to questions.
"So then the only way to stop a prediction from the cards would be to block them from those energies, but the cards let of little to no magical presence on their own so it shouldn't have caught anyone's attention. That's why even a person with no magical training are able to use them affectively."

Then an answer hit him,"Unless they were already watching what I was doing when I started using the cards. Then someone could isolate the cards specifically and leave his other magic unhindered."

It was then that Bookkeepers spell went off illuminating some of the forest. Looking up Seth could swear he saw for a moment eyes staring back at him from the shadows of this new path, and he could definitely hear the sound of it's growls.

Speaking in a hushed tone he said to the others, "We need to be careful, I think we still be in the tower, caught in one of those simulation rooms like we were before. Someone or something has been blocking me from using some of my magic. But regardless, we have to do something soon to make headway. I don't care what you guys decide, but do it fast I'm running on fumes power wise and when I run out, I'll be nothing better then dead weight.

Looking back at the other three frozen in amber,  I hate to say it, but we may have to leave the others behind it's beyond me to free them right now and we are no use to them if we end up dead in this place."

If worse came to worse he was just gonna pour what little mana he had left into the strange stone and see what would happen he thought as he  collected his gear. His limbs felt like cement as he stood.

Did something just...growl at me? Viktor thought to himself. Upon hearing Sigil's thought on where they were, and that this was probably another simulation in the tower, the growl only upset the boy more. So something is still watch us...aggressively.

"I'm sure I wasn't the only one that heard that. We're being watched. It's probably dangerous to move without caution. Especially since we're all tired. Luckily, it seems there's a path where I threw that stone just now, so we at least know this isn't untraveled. Should we risk taking the path?"

Throughout this entire statement, all Viktor could think was that the path may not be man-made. At this point, he didn't know what to expect. And he was close to being unable to defend himself, with how fatigued he was.

"Or we could take this chance to rest a bit. This grove has enough space that we can see anything coming, so we can take turns on watch. We're all tired enough that a break would be the best course of action, in my opinion."

Viktor takes a seat next to the fire as he tries to gather himself. May as well take advantage of the fire if it's here already.

He knew that something was missing as if he stood at a door and it was missing the key, but on occasion he was able to catch a glance from the keyhole or a sound from beneath the door. He tried so hard to remember his parents but all that came was glimmers, shifting images of uncast characters. Jin was certain that whatever had transpired to his parents, it had been a wrong doing and that in some way within his honor was tarnished. The images swirled further as he recalled his days as a vigilante even before he discovered his powers, Jin had been drawn to fighting for a better world to live in.

Strong breaths of air filled his lungs but his eyes would not open. He was slumbering in a realm of inescapable rest. His body would not move but the air told the story. He was confined that much was for sure.

He remembered a bright rainbow of colors, filled with shifting images. Why had Mindsense been in the building confined? It made no sense, he had moved ahead of the party and knew that he was faster than the rest. She had stayed back with the team...or was it clone?...a projection?...to many questions and not enough answers.

The skateboard had hit the curb, and he had tumbled onto the sidewalk. He was 8 years old and just learning the streets. His grandfather had finally permitted him to leave his roost and adventure into the neighborhood. He was so full of happiness the days of learning what the world could be all its possibilities. Why did all of the street signs appear to be in Japanese? He was in America, he had left Japan when he was just a baby...anger swam within his heart, he was so angry!

He needed to wake up this sleep was all to keep him restrained, to not allow him to do something? What was he doing?

Air formed, tightening around his body, the currents strengthened, swirling with force. With a final exhale of breath the wind burst forth into a small sphere of tightened air.

To all those sitting by the fire it sounded like a giant bubble collapsed, with faint audible "pop." The field surrounding Specter cascaded away like broken panes of glass, falling to the ground and vaporizing into shimmer ether.

The young man sat up, glancing around for the first time weeks it felt like. "Why are we in the forest? I thought this was a city based film?"

Sigil turned slightly in shock to see one of his trapped compatriots be released from their prison. "So you can only escape if you wake up on the inside." He said reaching as if to help the other man regain his balance. He was slightly comforted by the fact that if they were going to leave the others they were not defenseless.

Pulling in close he whispered "we think who ever is running the programming decided to put us in another one of those virtual stages. These woods don't appear to be normal. Be on guard." Detaching quickly he took up a defensive stance.

"I think we need to move now waiting here is just inviting more trouble to find us. The question is do we take the path in front of us or try and find an alternate route?"

But your minds are quickly taken off of the slightly comforting site, when the sound of rustling leaves and snapping twigs draw your attention...

Sigil acting fast began focusing on a spell that might help if he acted fast enough despite his aching body. He was not the most keen on getting on being hunted by a possible computer program and as the darkness enveloped them he had a spark of inspiration. As his tongue and mind worked around the last part of the incantation his hands and eyes let off a small glow. Small magic circles appearing on his palms though if you were not looking for it you would not have noticed He also added a small extra line to the spell nothing special just a plea for help from the universe that he might find aid with the casting.

"Perhaps this will shed some light on the situation!" cupping his palms up and towards the sound of the creature in the woods he let loose a jet of arcane energy that exploded in the sky like a flare gun revealing the area in the sharp contrast of the green light.

Any animal who was used to seeing in the dark would no doubt have an even harder time avoiding being blinded by this kind of thing and might even reveal more of the landscape or set them up for a surprise attack. And if his guess about their being outside interference watching them the sudden contrast from black to bright green would at least shield them from those onlookers if not reveal any hidden cameras or familiars blinding and disabling them as well. Computers he knew no matter how advanced struggled greatly from shifts in extremes smiling slightly as he remembered how fast his laptop almost exploded as his master had tried to use it one night afe\r drinking using magic to make it run faster and deal with things it's small processors were not built to manage. That and he had to make sure the memory was completely whipped from all the blacklist websites she visited.

The look on any one of his family members face if they could see him in such a state. If they wanted to beat him he would have to be incapactated before he just layed down and died.

"This is the time to do your thing guys!" He screamed "Big guy... Specter pick up the kid we're gonna may need to move as fast as we can down this path if something decides to attack and he's not gonna be keeping up if we have to book it!" He still was not certain how affective his spell would turn out to be so he was hedging his bets just in case.

Viktor sighed at the passing of the fire, then seized up as things started getting hectic again. "And there goes any chance of rest." He says rather annoyed. The boy quickly gathered himself breaking out of his daze to realize that one of their companions had woken up. He was too confused to make heads or tails of what was going on, so he just decided not to think about it.

"I can keep up just fine." Viktor responded, keeping himself from being picked up. If anything, I can scout ahead. You'll need to keep up with me." The boy said proudly.

Viktor checked that there was nothing in the trees thanks to the flare light. Then, in the blink of an eye, he was on the branch he'd been focusing on. He looked back and down, calling out, "Come on!"

The branch holds Bookkeeper rather securely as he covered the distance quickly, watching as Sigil's flare had lit up most of the area directly ahead Viktor was able to make out a mostly dense tree coverage and small winding path leading directly away from the campsite. The way appears to be clear, but the short time that the flare lasts does not allow enough time for getting any accurate detail of the forest layout.

The wind is beginning to pickup and the air feels damp as it whips across the parties faces. A few moments later something can be heard stirring in the woods again, it appears the flare's effect has ended...

Sigil did his best to memorize the root to the path away from the camp. He was now more certain then ever that this was just another game someone was playing with them. He was tired of tests if this even was part of the process any more.

Before heading out he drew a small magical marker in a near by tree with some arcane power. This would hopefully stop things from going out of hand if anything went wrong. With that done, he closed his eyes for a moment feeling slightly better with his power returning. Focusing his energies in his palm small specks of light like fireflies began to coalesce until if formed a floating orb no larger then a tense ball. It shown a soft pastel white a warming color or so he felt something less harsh to the eyes. All the easier to make out any details within the wood.

Casts summon light

Finding the path that he had seen before he began walking, motioning for the others to follow curious as to what they might find and wishing that he would soon be home again back safe in his own bed.  He was tired but the small rest was at least a start. His free hand fiddling with the strange rock in his pocket.

Mindsense following closely behind, keeping her eyes alert and her cannon warm. The forest was too strange - or at least how they were just seemingly randomly sent there. If there was something or someone who meant them harm, Mindsense would love to blast a whole in its face.

"You know, I never did like forests." Mindsense commented as she followed behind.  "They're too... lively, wet, and there's never a good computer terminal around when you need one."

Viktor decides its best to stay above as a scout, hopping along the trees above the pathway to guide his comrades. It was the only way he knew]/i] to go, as the rest of the woods, and whatever was waiting within them, were not visible in the short duration of the flare. Still, a path was good. He'd heard Mindsense's remark about the dislike of forests, and though he didn't have the same dislike of forests, he certainly missed the city. Not that it'd been much easier on the streets, but at least he wasn't being pursued by unknowns, nor did he ever feel trapped. This whole scenario was an awful turn of events. Why DID I agree to what those men in suits said? My guts TOLD me they were suspicious... He mentally scorned himself.

Book Keeper takes the time to look over his surroundings each time he 'jumps', to make sure they weren't going to run into any sort of ambush, cautiously teleporting down the pathway.

A long winding path lies before the party, you head down the path without incident, as you notice the sun steadily beginning to rise, although somewhat cloudy the party breathes a sigh of relief at the breaking of dawn.

Directly ahead sits a stone obelisk that appears to be hewn from the marble-like rock face directly behind it, this natural barrier divides the path into two sections, one heading east the other west. A figure stands near the obelisk, his eyes closed and his hands raised above his head. It does not appear that he has seen you yet.

Looks like this is the beginning of the next test He thought to himself as he approached the crossroads then on the defensive. "Good Morning sir! Might you be able to tell help us? We're trying to return home, but have seen to lost our way in the woods. If you could even tell us wear these paths lead?"

From a fair distance away he sat down facing the man in his mimic a meditative stance, he used the time to scan the obelisk and the man for any kind of magical power due to the trance like nature around him. Sigil normally did these kind of exercises when he wanted to practice harnessing his spiritual powers so perhaps following the man's lead and showing that he was not a threat might curry some favor with whoever this being was.

So this IS still within the facility? Book Keeper thought to himself as he spotted the man and the obelisk from in the forest canopy. But is this still a test? Right as he thought this, Book Keeper saw Sigil approach and greet the stranger. It's best if I wait and watch. If anything happens, I can always shield them from afar, or hold the stranger if he attacks.

Thus Book Keeper waited on a tree branch, ready to act if need be. He took this time to study the obelisk more closely. It was certainly an odd sight, having a marble pillar like this just standing at a fork in the road. What was it meant to mark? Was it memorializing something? Book Keeper studied the area in hopes of obtaining some clues.

However, the man sitting opposite from him chose or was unable to respond to his questions. "Still part of the test is it?" he thought to himself,"fine we'll see what we can work with here before we make a random choice." Seth tried his best to get a mental idea about the magic in question and see if he could use it as a conduit to link back to the source. Every spell was like a fingerprint after all. Even if to mages attempted the exact same spell the results while comparable were always unique to the caster. If he could trace it back to the user or at least identify the school and type of magic at was it might give them a clue as to where they should go next.

Mindsense said sarcastically. She looked towards her companions seeing if they had any sort of plan to do next. As far as she was concerned, the Assessor's little 'test' seemed to be over. If anything they should try to find out where they were, and make their way back to civilization. And for Megella, back to her home...

She raised her voice as she continued to 'warm up' her arm cannon.

From the man's reaction, it was already apparent that he didn't respond, or perhaps chose to ignore them, so without further thought, Mindsense strode forward, her destination was to get right in front of the figure.

"You better not just be ignoring us." She said as she closed the distance.

Viktor felt as though waiting in the treeline at this point was not going to achieve anything, thus he teleported down beside his teammates. "What's the situation down here? Do we know who this man is?" Book Keeper still wasn't sure what to make of the situation. Just moments ago they'd appeared in a dark forest, with signs of movement circling them, and now they seemed to be at a peaceful fork in a path with an odd pillar and old man. Whatever these test were, it was certainly hard to keep one's bearings.

It was unsettling. The breeze and sounds of the forest were relaxing, yet Book Keeper knew this was still part of whatever 'tests' they'd been thrown into. In truth, he didn't know how to react to the situation. All he could do was stand and prepare to react defensively. At least until he knew more of the man before them.

Bookkeeper saw the man turn and do...something to Mindsense. "Not good...!" He'd been prepared to shield or restore anyone injured or assaulted. But this was channeled, he needed to attack as well. There was nothing to could do against mental attacks, though; he'd never encountered them before. Stop thinking, Viktor! ACT! He told himself as he gathered strength. He had to use a word he was neither fond of, nor used to. Quickly, he flicked his hand, open-palm, toward the assailant.

"PUSH!"

He wasn't certain if this would succeed, but he had no time to confirm as he turned to Mindsense, squeezing out more power to aide his ally.

"RESTORE!"

Viktor had raised his other hand nearly simultaneously in hopes of returning Mindsense to her senses. Work...please work!

MindSense:
Attempt successful the nanites and Bookkeeper use of the word "restore", quickly brings your system back up to full operational status. it appears that you have also discovered a latent signal originating from the obelisk , it seems to be some sort of message written in binary code. (Mindsense has also received a bit of power surge from Bookkeeper allowing all attacks/defense manevuers to do +2 damage/defense)

Bookkeeper:
As you shout the mystic nature of your words mix with the arcane power of Sigil. The force is so strong that the obelisk cracks behind the glowing figure. This seems to further enrage the figure and now he draws even more heavily on what ever power he controls. (Balance is restored as you have used both a chaotic and order word)

Bookkeeper noted immediately that the figure, imposing as he was, was upset over the obelisk cracking. It was obvious that Viktor's powers would not effect the man, who was growing overwhelming. But what they had effected was the obelisk. I'll just have to damage what I can...He might be drawing from it, after all.

Viktor focuses on the obelisk, studying the area around it, and then vanished from where he stood. He instantaneously appeared next to the structure, slamming a hand down on the obelisk.

The words "Decay" pour from your mouth, your weakness ignored as you muster up all you have, you hand impacts the obelisk, another large crack appears accompanied by a bone jarring thunder, at the place your hand met its mark.

The figure now twice his original size, is clearly weakening roars in anger and turns to strike Bookkeeper, "GET AWAY FROM THAT!!"

"UMM If you guys could do me a favor and destroy that obelisk soon that would be great!" said Sigil as he floated as fast as he could to maintain his distance and not seeming overly panicked, even though he was sweating bullets to keep his distance. He did not feel like getting hit by some magic missile. He felt like he was in some kind of cartoon as he maintainted the best distance he could while still being in sight of the others. With Bookkeeper focused on the task at hand it was the best he could do to try and force their foe's attention solely onto him so that he could buy some time.

Bookkeeper saw the man's reaction, and despite his angered growth, it was exactly as Bookkeeper wanted. Still, though he did want to follow Mindsense's advice, the crazed man was rushing the boy in a manner that couldn't simply be ignored.

As quickly as he could, he took a deep breath, then shouted as loud and forcefully as he could manage.

"SHIELD!"

His goal was to surround himself and any ally near him at the pillar with a field so the man's onslaught was delayed.

Bookkeeper called back out to Mindsense and Sigil, "I have my hands full with this guy for now, you cover the rest!"

Cursing under breath, she began charging up her cannon again. This time she would ensure the cannon was at its max capacity, spending more time to replenish and gather its energy reserves before releasing the pent up energy out all at once.

"Just a little bit more!" Mindsense said aiming her cannon towards the structure again. She glanced at Bookkeeper, trying valiantly to keep the obelisk's protector busy. If only gathering plasmatic energy were faster!

She made a mental note to upgrade that later.

Bookkeeper's eyes were heavy, and his mind was throbbing in fatigue. He'd not used his powers so strenuously and in such quick succession since his days on the streets a year or so ago. It was rough, and he didn't miss this feeling at all. He couldn't move well, and felt that every action could push him over the edge. He could see his shield cracking, and knew it was only a matter of time. But all he could do was wait.

And that's what scared him most. He could do nothing on the face of such a foe, in his current condition. And any more attacks on the obelisk would leave him helpless. All he could do was rely on these two strangers to finish the job, and afford them some rest.

"Hurry...! I can't do any more than this!"

The energies were coalescing together, building up in power in her arm cannon just under the slick metal encapsulated in a plasmatic core. Her output reader was already beyond the recommended levels, but she ignored the warnings as more of the energy was built up. Bookkeeper was barely holding, and she knew she had to act soon. Her cannon was close to shutting down forcefully too, being used for a purpose it didn't necessarily could handle. But she trusted her father's invention, and with all the modifications she had done to it too, surely it will hold out.

Just when she saw notices of critical failure on her displays did she finally release the blast with all the pent up energy it had acquired.

"Eat this."

Things were getting desperate the shot Mindsense did less damage then he had hoped and Bookkeeper was just barely minutes away from faltering. He only hoped what little damage was done to this obelisk would be enough to put a fault in the system or at the very least give him an opening. He quietly floated to the back of the black stone  away from whatever was attacking them and placed a hand on it. This thing was packed with so much energy he thought that he might just be able to force it to short circuit. After all magics biggest constraint is the vessel it was held in. He began channeling what little energy he had left full well knowing he would pass out at the end of it at least to cause a bit more havoc. If he did not do something BK would be in quite a bit of trouble in the very near future.

Bookkeeper watched as the his two teammates gave everything they had to try to break the structure. This was obviously their last push, everyone was at their limit. Exhausted as he was, Bookkeper's mind raced. What can I do? Decay takes too long to damage enough to break this thing, and I know the shield will be breaking soon. I have to do something. Something stronger! Think, Viktor, think!

It was then that a word surfaced in his mind, and the more he recognized its meaning, the more he embraced it as his next action. The boy dismissed his shield so he could focus solely on the spire in front of him. It was very likely he wouldn't be able to handle the power of what he was to do next, but he had to try!

In a weary manner, using whatever strength he could muster, Bookkeeper thrust his palm against the obelisk, and with a deep breath, shouted.

"SHATTER!"

It was a risk that the boy pushed himself this far, and finally the risk caught up with him. Bookkeeper collapsed to the ground, with the only comfort being that they'd succeeded in destroying the obelisk. Whether that made the threatening figure near him cease, he didn't know. Nor could he do anything to stop it.

With that last, uncertain thought, Viktor slumped, falling to the ground in unconsciousness.

Both of her companions down on the ground. Mindsense's immediate concern went to Bookkeeper. He took the full brunt of attacks, and the way he went out looked a lot more serious than Sigil who, even now, seemed to glow, from his magical voodoo nonsense.

She made her way towards the boy, while continuing to keep her eyes on the old man.

"Who are you?" She asked, keeping her voice threatening. A moment later she proceeded to lay her hand on her young companion.

"You okay kid?" She wasn't sure if he was even conscious, but as she touched his forehead, Mindsense willed her mind into his, to see if she could somehow help in his recovery, or to find out any information on his state of being.
