Title: Ways to improve the site?
Post by: lightspeed15 on April 09, 2012, 07:03:11 PM
This topic is made to suggest any features you would like to see on FWC, please share them, but keep them appropriate, please.

I think a good question to ask is what can't we have added on to the forums? I think that a more pleasing, attractive interface would be a contributing factor. The music thing would be a good idea, too.

Well after listening to what Throndir and Hasa said, I think we'll have to drop the music idea. People just have such different tastes of music...what we could do alternatively is make a forum game called "share a song" and each person posts a song they like, can be a video game music or real music (as in singing and stuff). Just an idea, you can take it up if you wish.

That's a great alternate. However, how would we post the songs on here?

You can post media/files, take a look into this thread:

Might I suggest something?

I encourage everyone to be more active on the forums. I know that everybody is already active, but what I mean is rather than posting infinite amounts of new posts we could reply to older ones such as ones in the general discussin and spam boards so they're not just wasting space. Plus, it would get you more posts, and increase the Google rank by having more stuff, and essentially, we get more members, and an even better community.

Getting more Google Page Rank is from linking too. The best to get more activity is to really start a project, then advertise for help, and linking them to these forums saying that these are the "development forums for my project" and "if you help me out, please register! :)"

I would like to add my two cents, please! lol.

Picture this: [I hold my hands up parallel to each other like they are things that go on the side of a horses face to keep them from getting distracted by the crowd on the side of them.]

I think we should have a child board in Under the Bard's Tree called Hall od Stories, or Library of [insert desired word here]. What I have pictured is this: A certain number of individuals (all of which volunteer) form a council of people that "grade each person's work, if that author requests. If seen fit by the council they will ask permission from the author of the work to have their work displayed in the [Library, database, collection, etc.], where it will be seen as a work of art for all to see.

However, if you think that it is too "1%," and is too socialist, then please express your opinions stating whether why or why you do not want this approved. "Thank you for your consideration."

I was looking at the website and saw a "Guides" section. It obviously had nothing in it. I was wondering if someone could add a board somewhere on forum to put guides to help with creating a fantasy world. I would like to write a few guides.

Sure if you like. I'll recreate the section that was once there. It'll be under FWC Projects.

Hello, fellow Americans. I come to you today to tell you of pressing news...

JK.

I have an idea for a forum RP, sort of. It would BASICALLY be a politics, simulation, sort of game. You have no idea how strongly I emphasize "BASICALLY." First off, you would be the leader of a new country. You would decide your government and economy type, be it communism, socialism, democracy, capitolism, etc. You would basically just coexist with other nations and see how it goes. This is just an idea. If it seems too large a project for our fledgling society then PLEASE, say something.

xD It reminds me of these country games that people play on some forums. They use a map too to determine what areas are under control. I think they make it do wars too and the point is to gain more territory. I'd be willing to do it~ But you should always do an interest check to see who else you can count on before starting. xD And also how it would be played, and what rules there are and stuff like that.

Getting people from outside FWC works too, and that way more members would come. :D

Okay, We'll see how many people are willing to do this. Also, for anyone reading this. GAT ACTIVE! The forum games have been quiet. post, post, post!

Used to do a similar thing with star trek on some old forums rather than countries it was systems. It was quite detailed. I would be up for a political strategy game :D

Maybe we should make a FWC app for the App Store, once we get enough members that is. Before we even think of that, we need to make a target member number of maybe 100.

Holy Bologna that would be a great idea. But, why would people get an app when they can just go online to the forum?

Has anyone thought of using google adsense?

I think we thought of that a while ago but I'm honestly not sure. I think we are avoiding ads on the site or something like that. Lol

I think weve gone over this before, but, to help advertising, which we are frankly lacking in, i think that we should make an fwc youtube channel. We would make a video or two to help advertise. I would just use windows movie maker or something. Im going to try to get it up this week, but id know if im even going to go through with it. Really all i need is some music from someone to use for it. I was thinking of maybe upbeat action music, or maybe some rap music that flows. LS youd be good with that. You can just link it here or pm it to me and ill see how i like it. (Maybe something like that eminem song that has rihanna in it. For the life of me i cant remember the name of it. It goes(i need a doctor, i need a doctor, doctor, doctor, do dah da de daah de daaah, rapping.) Again i dont know if ill even go through with this. I probably will though considering itll take two secondds

Are you talking about the song by Dr. Dre featuring Eminem and Skylar Grey?

I looked up some more songs and I found a song by composer Clint Mansell for the movie Requiem For a Dream. It sounded really good, except I don't know how to get it to put it on the video. oh well.

Yeah, definitely don't use rap songs. That's not that great of marketing. Use a composition. Use a YouTube to mp3 convertrr

I was thinking...to rank higher with google we should create a spam topic, and just dump a bunch of links in it and keywords. Sure, it's cheap, but would it work?
Title: Re: Ways to improve the site?

Yeah, sounds like a good idea! I'll create the topic, and then everyone will just throw a bunch of links in it.

I just looked up a thing on how to quickly raise your PageRank/PR, and It is very confusing, but, by making a massive amount of links and keywords it should raise it a little. The PR updates that google does is every 2-3 months, so, we have to build it up. If I type in FWC, what comes up is the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Center website. When I typed in fantasy world creation, our site was the 5th to come up.

That's probably brcamuse FWC isn't used much. I was able to my kingdom of fraymar site to the top results overtime. It's number 1 now

The app idea isn't that bad. It would give us more visibility because people browse through it. So instead of searching for FWC or something related, they browse through, see the app, install, and be active (in best case scenario, heh). I actually know how to build mobile apps pretty easily (using web languages), and I can work on this in my free time (i.e. hour or two in the morning) if there is interest.

Wow, that would be amazing if you could! :O If you would need any logos or graphics, you can hit up me or Hasabushi.

Thanks if you can do this!

I'm not much of a designer, more of a programmer. So, there should be some design collaboration. And maybe a different topic for this as well, I will probably make one after getting the details of the app worked out (such as what framework will be used, what platforms will be supported, and so forth).

I just did a brief once over on the forums and the website and here's some ideas I'm throwing out.

Forum:

* Remove website and transfer web domain and materials to the forum
* Remove dead fwc blog, old forums, and silverlock media link
* Get back old chat box (if possible)
* Add the forum link to the website's navigation bar

Website:

* Remove shoutbox
* Post new updates
* Update game development to include projects in the forum
* Update literature with literature from the forums (if not done already)

I aplaud you good sir! You know how to get things done! I support you 100% To get the website updated would be a dream. I asked someone to take it down a while ago because it was a dead project but it never was taken down.
