Title: Chapter 1: Uninvited Guests
Post by: Throndir on May 10, 2012, 08:23:47 PM
Tuesday Evening
December 2, 1980
10:00 PM

The thunder up above roared terribly as you as well as some of the other staff peered out the windows. The rain was heavy. Too heavy. In fact, in all of your days serving on the Jameson estate you?ve never seen such a storm blowing through the courtyard. Already the electricity was being affected as lights flickered and dimmed. At times it would completely go off, and more than one of you feared that it was a black-out, only to find the lights turning back on minutes later, flickering as they did so. Likely the electricity itself would go out permanently sometime soon if the weather kept up its harsh beating. It was a thought that occurred to everyone in the mansion, one that the inhabitants preferred not to happen even though the inevitability seemed so very clear.

The heavy downpour, wind, and electricity poles swaying helped to make even the mansion?s TV sets to flicker, their reception even more horrible than the usual static their location had. You were surprised that it wasn?t fixed earlier. Though the mansion wasn?t in the center of the city, it was at its fringes. Apartment complexes, stores, and a few other more richly ordained homes littered the current area. You expected that crews would have already been dispatched to repair the damage the storm caused, but for one reason or another, they didn?t.

The lord and the lady were out. They were off on vacation, as the Jameson family was known to do frequently. They were supposed to arrive home earlier today; this morning. The attendants of the mansion had already prepared the estate; ensuring things were orderly for the arrival of their lord and lady. Yet, they did not come. The storm started only last evening, and in all that time there was no respite from the heavy downpour. Though the sun was not out, hidden behind dark storm clouds for the entire day, time watch or not, everyone knew the day would soon be over.

Many times they had attempted to call the missing Jameson family, and to perhaps find out for certain when they are to arrive, but as they expected the phone lines were down. Likely one of the telephone poles had toppled. One of the servants had gone off into town to get someone to fix the phone lines, yet even they, like the Jamesons, had not come back.

But it?s to be expected, the storm overhead was simply too heavy, you thought as you watched the droplets coalesce together on the window pane, only to flow down even faster from its combined mass or get hit by a dozen more droplets. More than likely that servant boy was sitting comfortably in the town hall or even the police station as he waited for the storm to settle. More than likely too the Jameson family was simply delaying their arrival until the weather cleared up more. Even though it sounded logically sane, that there didn?t seem to be any flaws in the thinking, there was something nagging upon each and every employee of the Jameson estate. It was as if there was a forthcoming dread just waiting to rise at the end of the day. It was an inescapable and inexplicable feeling. There was unrest in every mind and in every heart, a strange feeling of unease that wouldn?t seem to want to dissipate.

And it was like this as the Jameson estate staff peered out the windows at the hallway just before the mansion's front door, and it was like this when the head butler, Jared, or Jar a more demeaning nickname as some others call him, finally broke their reverie in his booming voice.

"Enough staring! The Jamesons did not hire you to simply stare out the windows." He snapped his fingers as he scolded the group.

Yet, for all of the weight of authority that the head butler had with him, you lingered your eyes outwards only a moment more. You didn't really think that you'd see anything new or different, the act of gazing more from the lingering feelings of unease than anything else, but as you peered out again you caught notice of something far into the background, towards the direction of the gate. Was it a figure? An object near the gates?
Whoooo!

Feel free to be with the group, or somewhere else.

This is the D20 Zombie RP just in case if people are confused. The Jameson Estate freeform RP that I'll be starting will be on the weekends. Probably Saturday.
He continues to stare intently, trying to figure out what was there. "Vat IS zat..."

"...Is someone out there?"

Noelle squinted a little, trying to get a better look. It seemed like there was someone on the other side of the gate, trying to get in, but it was impossible to tell who it was from this distance. "Perhaps Eugene has returned." She suggests, referring to the servant boy that had been sent out earlier. "He's probably having trouble with the gate."

Getting up from her seat, she threw on a jacket in a timely pace, managing to be quick without seeming hurried or rushed. "Best to get the gate open before the power fails." she explains, taking her flashlight from her briefcase, laid out on the table. Normally it was kept in her quarters, but when the electricity began threatening to go out, she retrieved it while the lights were still on.

"You may wait here. No need for all of us to bear the rain." She was used to storms like this. While it was certainly unusual for the local climate, Vietnam was a tropical area, and she had carried about 100 pounds of army gear through downpours not unlike this one many times before. She wasn't adverse to making the trek to the gate, even without an umbrella.

Upon exiting the mansion's front door, her first thought was that an umbrella likely would not have helped in the first place. It would likely be taken by the wind, and in the first place the rain was practically falling sideways. "Is that you, Eugene?" She calls, raising her voice over the storm. As the wind and rain battered her face, the woman pointed her flashlight forward, covering her brow with her other arm as she tried to get a better look at the figure ahead.

Reggie sighed as the downpour continued, a deluge if had ever seen one. It was not unlike the first rain he had encountered his first day at the mansion, yet this was more om

inous almost foreboding. But giving not into his fears as his psychiatrist had taught him, he pushed the feelings far away as his thoughts of being about his duties quickly surplanted any thoughts of dread that he might have. "I'll check on the young miss Darline, if anyone needs me I'll be in the west wing.."

Darline Yuliet had been very sick, sicker than a girl her age should be, barely in her teens she often helped with the daily chores in the mansion. Most of those that worked there simply accepted her as part of the daily routine in the mansion, though none admittedly knew where she came from. Jar had often spoke of that she just showed up one day, not speaking a word. Taking pity on her he brought her into the mansion and put her to work as a servant girl.

Reggie opened the door to room where Darline was sleeping, in this case it was good, her fever had gotten quite high the night before, almost to the point where Dr Reginald would have made the trip into town to visit the quaint but more advanced hospital in town. He opened the door and peered in, for some odd reason the lights had not come back on yet in the West wing, fortunately he had brought a torch....

Sophie, like a few of the others, was watching the rain with a slight sense of worry. She didn't really mind the rain itself though; in fact, she had always enjoyed the sound of it. She was currently on the second floor, tending to the library. She still had a duster in hand, but had decided to take a break and look outside. The library was almost clean anyway...not only that, it was a little hard to continue with the lights flickering all the time. The first time things had gotten dark, Sophie was quick to find herself a flashlight! There was no way she'd let herself get caught in the dark. But, she was happy to know she wouldn't be alone if a black-out truly happened. Accompanying her was the families cute little kitten, Trixy. The cat lay beside Sophie's feet, purring quietly. Sophie really didn't care for being alone, especially since it meant she had no one to talk to! "You're lucky, Trixy," Sophie commented. "You can see just fine when it's dark out..."

Just then, something caught the maid's eye. Off in the distance she could have sworn she had seen something by the gate...It was rather hard to tell. For all she knew, it could have just been some kind of animal. "Poor thing."  Sophie said aloud, still directing her words toward the kitten. "I wouldn't want to be caught in such a storm!"

Thunder clapped as Noelle disappeared off into the corridor that would lead her to the front door, and from there to the outside. The lights went off again as one of the maids with you glanced up at them. One second passed, then two, then three.

Everyone held their breaths; even the louder Jared who would usually make it a point to ensure that the staff were always working and efficient paused as if he were waiting for whatever the outcome might be. To everyone's relief however, the did lights come back on. Though, it felt that each time the lights flickered, the darkness grew just a bit longer and just a bit darker. Indeed, as the sound of rain poured down harder on the mansion, seeming to get louder at each passing second, and as bolts of lightning flashed across the night sky, it was something that everyone can wholly agree with.

You see one of the maids with you, Esmelda, shiver. Making her way towards the window, she caught sight of Noelle braving the storm. You had peered out in the distance as well, and you realized that there was indeed a figure standing there. Like Noelle mentioned, it was probably Eugene. Though, even that you could not tell.

It was then that Esmelda turned towards the others, a determined look in her eyes.

?I'm going after her!? She finally said. Though she attempted to say it loudly and clearly, her voice ended uncertainly. Everyone who was listening could tell that Esmelda's convictions wavered. You knew that she had really no reason to accompany the capable Jameson bodyguard, but you also sympathized that something felt odd.

Noelle
The storm raged on outside just as you had expected. Flashes of lightning glowed briefly as deep rumbling sounds of thunder followed suit not long after. The downpour was heavier than you thought it to be. Already, your uniform was soaked only a few seconds out from the Jameson front door.

The wind was in your eyes, the rain poured heavily upon you. You did you best just to shield your sight so that you could make your way towards the front gate but even that proved to be hard task. You followed along the cobbled stone path beside the road that lead to the Jameson's garage, and though the distance wasn't too long, the journey felt longer.

You eventually made it close enough to the front gate to call out to the figure, and eventually use your flashlight. You were drenched completely, but you were able to see just enough. Just about 20 feet away from you behind the gate was indeed a figure. And as you surmised, the long coat that the figure wore marked him as Eugene who had grabbed the cloak before venturing into town. You remember that the servant boy brought one of the umbrellas with him, and you wondered why he didn't have one with him at the time. You noticed one strange thing though; he was sitting on the ground. You couldn't make out any more details unless you move closer.

The wind blew against you harder just then. Opening the gate required a push of a button on a nearby gate guard building next to the gate.

Sebastian puts a hand on Esmelda's shoulder. "No, I'll go. As a gentleman, I cannot allow two vomen to brave such a storm. Ze only reason I did not object to Noelle is because she is experienced in such conditions. You stay here, I'll back her up in case zere is trouble."

With that, Sebastian goes sprinting through the halls, grabs his coat, and heads outside toward the gate. Someting is definitely wrong here...it's an ominous feeling, indeed...Ach! Ze doctor went to ze vest ving alone! I vish I had mentioned zat someone should have accompanied him...

It was definitely Eugene. Even through the rain, she recognized his coat. But he wasn't responding to her when she called...and he was on the ground as well. It was fairly obvious that he wasn't just taking a break in the middle of the storm.

He might be unconscious. They had no idea how long he had been standing out here, trying to get someone to come open the gate for him. He would have gone unnoticed because of the storm. If he had been stranded in the rain for an hour or more, he may have succumbed to hypothermia. She couldn't tell from here exactly how much danger he was in, but it was abundantly clear that he was not okay.

It was best to get him inside as quickly as possible and have Dr. Hughes take a look at him. She went quickly to the building to open the gate, hitting the button with only slightly more force than was required. She only hoped that the electricity would hold out. She'd climb the gate if she had to.

Giinora squatted at the end of the four poster bed, patiently whittling away at the oak. Most people hated when it did so, but not little miss Darline, no. She enjoyed having something new to look at, being cooped up in this room. Steelna lovingly stroked the young lady's hair, and gave a small start at the thunder overhead.

Giinora, and as always, Steelna Verlicsa, were left to accompany miss Darline on this day. All of the mansion's staff had seemingly just stopped in their tracks, and it was no wonder! Giinora gave her counterpart a meaningful sideways glance as the lights flickered, they both were thinking the same thing. This storm was nothing short of peculiar. The rain pounded on the windows with a fury that had the windows shuddering, and never before had the two seen the lights behave so erratically. There was little to be said about the terrible booming ahead.. Gii sighed, the mansion always had seemed so impenetrable...

Gii reached down and pulled something from what looked like it's sleeve cuffs, and motioned for Steelna to take it. Darline groaned, and grasped for the leaf in the strange woman's hands. Handing it to her, they both watched silently as the girl chewed and sucked on the leaf. It wasn't enough to cure her, but it was enough to ease her pains. Just as she had swallowed and fallen back asleep, Reggie -looking rather disturbed- slowly entered the room.

Pushing the button, you heard the tell-tale sounds of the gears and mechanics moving. You half-expected the gates to not budge at all, but to your relief and minor celebration the gates started opening. It didn't last long however. Just as the gates were half-way opened, they halted to a screeching stop. You heard the gears cackle and groan and it didn't take long for the sounds to vanish altogether. The small lightbulb marking the button had dimmed as well. But you knew the locks on the gates have been released, it may be possible to swing the gate open manually.

In that moment you heard something far in the distance you never would have expected in the employ of the Jamesons. Gunshots.

Reggie flicked on the torch as he entered the room, a cone of light shining with a scattered reflection from the lens cover, apparently the flashlight had been dropped more than once, and most likely by Sebastion who seemed prone to being overzealous at times.
He was startled for a moment as the light refracted off Steelna's unusual eyes. He still had not really gotten used to her presence. It was easier with the masked that helped to somewhat cover her appearance, but Reggie had learned a long time not to judge on appearances alone and she had more than once proven to be trustworthy. He briefly nodded her way and gave a brief but sincere grin, "How's she doing, any change?" he said as he watched the young maid chew something in her mouth. He didn't wait for Steelna to respond as he felt Darline's head it was wracked with sweat and it seemed her temperature had climbed once again.

It was then he heard the distinct sound of gun shots ringing out....
Not sure If I'm suppose to be aware of Giinora at this point, but I'm assuming that Reggie is aware of Steelna.
"Just in time..." Noelle dashed through the half-opened gate, taking Eugene and lifting him up. She put one of his arms over her shoulders, lifting him steadily off the ground. Her head turned sharply at the sound of gunshots. It was a sound she hadn't heard in a long time. She wasn't sure what was happening out there, but it wasn't normal. The fact that guns were blasting in the city opened up a host of new explanations for Eugene's apparent unconsciousness, and none of them good.

She decided she'd come back later and see if she could get the gate closed again. But she didn't have time to wrestle with obstinate machinery right now, not with an unconscious man on her shoulders. The storm hadn't subsided in the slightest, but she could make out the side of the building against the clouded night sky. She started making her way back to the building, a trek of over 200 feet, as quickly as she could.

Immediately upon dashing through the gate, you notice the severe wounds that the servant boy had. Lifting the servant boy, you notice that the blood was pouring freely. There was red stains across his long trench coat, and though Eugene was unconscious, you heard him groan. You knew that he was in pain. You were glad that he was still alive, but at the same time many questions filtered through your mind.

The gunshot you had heard earlier only added to your worries. It was a series of shots, you heard the shots of civilian pistols, but amidst that, you were able to pick up the sounds of faster firing guns; guns not easily obtained by civilians. The sound was distant, though you realized that because of the heavy rain, or even how sounds can be carried over the wind, the distance may be closer or farther than you first surmised. The sounds disappeared moments later however, and you focused back on the wounded servant boy.

Just as Noelle is making her way back toward the estate, Sebastian reaches her, taking a moment to quickly catch his breath. "Zose gunshots are not helping my uneasiness. Here, let me help." He looks over to the gate. "Vait. Keep going a little furzer, I vill catch up. Vith zat gunshot, I should try to close ze gate quickly."

Sebastian takes a quick glance at the two, then nods to Noelle, recognizing the boy's wounds. "Poor boy...how did he get caught in zis?" He shakes his head, then runs to the gate to work on closing it manually. Ve must act fast, zis is getting dangerous!

Sophie let out a yawn, slowly becoming bored of just watching the rain. Suddenly, the lights went out again, leaving her in the dark. She waited a few long moments before snatching her flashlight from the windowsill. However, just as she did so, the lights flickered back on. She let out a sigh of relief, but this time, didn?t bother setting her light source back down.

Just as she readied herself to continue the usual cleaning duties, she noticed Noelle, the family body guard, trekking through the storm. She watched worriedly as Noelle opened the gate, and brought the figure she had seen previously toward the mansion. ?Oh my?? Sophie whispered, finally able to make out who the mysterious figure was. He wasn?t moving?Unfortunately, it was too hard to make out much else from her current position.  ?This can?t be good...will you be okay by yourself Trixy?? Sophie questioned. But looking down, she found the kitten had already run off.

Sophie hurriedly made her way down the stairs, determined to help in any way she could. She stopped by one of the closets on the way, grabbing a couple more flashlights in case the others might need them. The first person she found was Esmeld. ?Hey!? Sophie greeted, a little out of breathe from running. ?You should probably take one of these?? Sophie offered, gesturing toward the four flashlights she held.

"Thanks." Noelle nodded to the man, trying to raise her voice over the storm without yelling. It sounded like there was a war going on down there...with the phone lines down, they couldn't call anyone to find out what was happening. Just what is going on...?

Noelle re-entered the building calmly, carefully opening the door with the same hand she was holding the flashlight in. Moving at a controlled, but brisk pace, she laid Eugene down on one of the couches. The blood from his wounds mixed in with the rain, staining the cushions red.

"Jared, call Dr. Hughes." She addressed him without formality, but the situation called for quick action. There was no time for pleasantries. "In fact, call everyone. All mansion staff to this room."

There was some of Eugene's blood running down the back of her suit, and the carpet was wet where she had tracked in water. But most importantly was the bleeding man on the couch. "He's still alive, but wounded." She explains quickly, as most everything is self-evident at this point. Jared can see just as well as her what the situation is.

Through it all, she remains calm and in control. She knows that panicking solves nothing and helps nothing, and that she has to keep a cool head. "Sebastian is coming in behind me, leave the front door open."

If she remembered correctly, the doctor had gone to the west wing. He should be able to get here fairly quickly. Noelle wasn't sure how much time Eugene had, but being left out in the rain certainly hadn't added to it. Right now, the servant boy was the only person who had any idea what was going on in the city. The moment he was up and awake, he'd have to explain everything.

For now, though, she was just concerned with saving his life.

Walking out into the rain had immediately soaked your clothes. Lightning flashed filling the skies with a brilliant blaze of light. Clouds over head came into life as bright lines of lightning showed the forms of the dark and bulbous clouds up above. You thought you heard more gunshots in the background, but whether or not that was your imagination, it was hard to tell. Reaching the gate, as you had realized before, it was still ajar; freely able to swing back and forth. The mechanism to lock the gates were mechanical in nature, and you knew there was a button in the gate house that opens and closes the gate.

?Sophie!? She said as she pointed back down towards the hall. ?Noelle's asked to get everyone to the hall...? Her features creased with worry. ?I saw her dragging Eugene...? Her voice cracked, but she managed to nod, and even forcing a smile. Her next words contrasted with what she spoke. ?There was blood all over... His favorite coat? It was drenched dark, and I'm sure that a lot of it was b-? She interrupted her words. Shaking her head she attempted to banish the thoughts, shiveirng just a moment after. And only then did you realize the temperature was getting cooler. If the younger maid, Esmelda, noticed, she didn't say anything or more likely, her mind was filled with other things.

You see the butler crease his features, though after a moment's hesitance he started looking around seeing Esmelda and Sophie at the far end of the room where the staircase was located.

?You two!? He said in his booming voice. ?Gather everyone. He stared imposingly at the bodyguard, though he made no further actions. ?As for me, I'll get a first aid kit.? The butler said indignantly. Thinking that would have solved the encounter, he exited out of the room.

As you look around for any sort of mechanical problems to the gate, there was nothing that you can see that you would be able to fix. You noticed that the 'on' light switch in the gate house was dead, and even after pushing the button, there was no evidence that it even worked. The gate simply wouldn't lock or unlock itself; it was hanging freely. Being outside the mansion, you hear again signs of gunshots fired off in the distance. They were faint, and with the rain and winds you doubted anyone else in the mansion would be able to hear. It was quieter than the few rounds of gunshots.

"B-blood...?" Sophie questioned, suddenly realizing how bad the situation actually was. Eugene didn't seem like the type to get into a fight...what had gone on while he was away? Sophie jumped slightly at the sound of the head butler's voice, having momentarily been lost in thought. "Yes sir!" She quickly replied, then turned back to Esmelda. "It will be ok.~" Sophie comforted, and smiled warmly ( despite being terribly worried herself). "I'll go get the doctor, ok? Everything will be fine once we get the crew together." Sophie said with confidence. She had seen the doctor a little earlier while sweeping the halls. The two had nodded to one another, and the doctor mentioned checking on Darline. Sophie hoped the girl was feeling better...she hadn't looked so good the last time she stopped by. Sophie placed the other two flashlights on a shelf, just in case someone else in the area might need one. She then scurried off toward the west wing.

"Doctor!" Sophie exclaimed upon reaching Darline's room. "Eugene is hurt..." She quickly explained. "I'm not sure exactly what happened, but, he's bleeding...Noelle suggested all mansion staff go to the main entrance hall, which is also where Eugene is." Sophie glanced at Darline, only causing herself to worry more. Would she be ok without the doctor...? She looked to Steelna then. "Steelna, maybe you could stay with Darline..?" Sophie suggested. It didn't look as though the girl would be able to come with them, and she certainly didn't want her to be all alone in this situation.

Reg took in a deep breath and put his index finger to his lips, trying to quite the very excited girl. "Eugene, the servant boy?". He immediately began to mentally prepare for what he might find. Grabbing his doctors bag he turned to Steelna and gave her a brief nod. "Lets go Sophie.."

Location: Main Entrance Way_Main Hall

Reggie ran into the room, he was breathing heavy as he had bolted from the west wing to here. "Where is the boy?" is all he said as he looked for where the young servant may be. A few moments later he found Eugene lying on a couch his cloak covered in blood. The boy was pale white almost ghostly looking, he had lost a lot of blood. Quickly he took Eugene's pulse it was almost non-existent, he then checked his heartbeat it was slow but still beating. Opening his bag he pulled out his penlite, he opened Eugenes lids and flashed the light into them, there was no response...

"Sophie I need your help, I need gauze from the main storage, its behind the toilet paper and towels, small container silver in color.", before waiting for her to answer he pulled Eugenes cloak off....

Sebastion
As you start attempting to close the gate, even though the lock was released, you realized that it wasn't something you could have easily pushed away. If you wanted to, you could attempt to more forcefully close the gate. Though, without the mechanisms to hold it in place, it can still be pushed.

Those looking at Eugene
The wounds were deep. You see blood still dripping from his body, and soaking his dark cloak even darker.

The trek back to the mansion was hard as the wind and rain buffeted you in every direction, but you made as much haste as you possibly can. The time spent outside the mansion in the heavy storm took its toll on you. You look a bit more pale than usual. Your limbs started to feel heavy, though you still managed to reach the mansion.

Reggie was shocked by what he saw, the boys injuries were from sort of animal and they were deep there was also some sort of smell and discoloration of the skin around the bites. He worked fervently to stop the bleeding and did so with some success. The wounds closed, he sutured them using the catgut in his kit. It was odd as he put in the stitches, the skin was almost necrotic looking, something he normally only saw in cadavers. At the moment it wasn't his major concern, as Eugene had lost a lot of blood, since he didn't know his blood type he would have to be rushed to the hospital in town or he may not survive the night.

The slamming of the door took his attention briefly off the dire situation before, he saw Sebastion enter the hall his face pale and his butlers outfit was drenched from head to toe. "My God man, what the hell happened?"

The heavy doors of the estate slammed as Sebastion closed them. The head butler stared at Sebastion incredulously. His gaze echoing the doctor's same sentiments. Before Sebastion had a chance to reply however, Jared strode over towards the other butler, his eyes fiery.

"You have the nerve to spout nonsense to attempt to cause some chaos when we have one of our own injured and near death? The butlers of the Jameson Estate have always been a mark of pride, but you Sebastion are very close to compromising that." The older man spoke firmly. He made a sweeping gesture towards Eugene. "Look at him Sebastion. We have enough to worry about."

He looks at Jared blankly, as though it should be clear as day that this is important, he holds back his words, knowing an argument would be the opposite of what he wanted. Only a fool does not take such tings to heart, Jared. Do not prove yourself to be a fool. "I apologize, ze veather may have gotten to me. If you'll excuse me, I shall retire to my private quarters to rest." He bows to the room. "Good evening."

As he leaves the room, he mutters under his breath, "Please stay safe..."

Upon reaching his room, he retrieves his personal Colt M1911, donning it's underarm holster beneath his suit and loading the pistol. He mutters to himself, "I von't panic, but I von't be unprepared eizer." He retrieves a few spare magazines, fitting them in the slots along the holster's strap. "Zis place is too important to me to leave unprotected."

Reggie seemed almost to wince as he fumbled with the light. Something had incredibly upset him, and in a moment it was obvious that there was good reason.

Steelna hesitantly looked out the window, there was no mistaking a gunshot. From the west wing it was difficult to see the gate, but it was clear there was a lot of commotion. She watched intently as figures moved back and forth through the rain, at this distance it was hard to tell who was there. She sat back down, exasperated, and watched as Reggie looked over Darline. Not long after, Sophie crashed into the room looking unusually disheveled.

Quote"Doctor!" Sophie exclaimed upon reaching Darline's room. "Eugene is hurt..." She quickly explained. "I'm not sure exactly what happened, but, he's bleeding...Noelle suggested all mansion staff go to the main entrance hall, which is also where Eugene is."

Listening carefully

Quote"Steelna, maybe you could stay with Darline..?"

There was no time to respond, Sophie and Reggie bolted from the room to help Sebastion. She had not really spoken with the boy, but he had always been a stable and ready hand. She hoped he was ok.

This was all so unheard of at the mansion, feeling slightly panicked Steelna motioned for Gii to come nearer. "You must go to the basement and retrieve my knives", they are in the trunk, it's a bit heavy, and you'll need my key. They both are in my room, take this flashlight too." She smiled as Giinora nodded and began to walk away. "GII! Grab my smokes too, and don't dawdle!"
I'm just going to call Gii a male XP
Giinora was nervous as he made his way through the maze of corridors and rooms. What he really wanted to do was make his way to the entrance hall, but that would have to wait. Trying to remember where he was he begins to backtrack.

Let's see, I went forward, took a left, and passed the stairs leading to the second floor. Which means I need to take another right and go down the stairs.

This all was logical thinking, and Gii was sure he had the directions right, but there hadn't yet been enough time to familiarize himself with the whole outlay of the mansion.

Just as he rounded the corner the lights flickered and went out.

Giinora stumbled and quickly grabbed for the flashlight at his belt, it wasn't easy with the gloves that Steelna made him, but they were made well enough that it wasn't too difficult either. He flashed around the hall, and knew he was lost... Or at least thought he was.

Waiting for the rest of the mansion staff didn't take too long. After all, the ringing of gunshots still echoed in their minds, and at least those who have heard and seen, they were worried at what happened with Eugene, the servant boy. Altogether, most of the mansion staff, save for the others that lived off-site, gathered. Each of them worried, though there were some who had been wakened from their sleep. You notice that the head butler had a stoic face and you can tell that he didn't quite wholly approve of disrupting everyone's sleep and slumber. There had been some conversations going on, as some rumors spread, but mostly everyone stared and worried over Eugene. It wasn't long until the head butler spoke.

"It is to my understanding..." He said. "That Eugene was attacked on his way back towards the premises. Likely, there were some hooligans out tonight shooting their weapons. I advise that tomorrow we limit our excursions outside. Including any shopping, visiting, or wandering outside the gates."

The Dr. cleared his throat after Jared stopped speaking, he raised his hand but realized that there was no point to it, as his mouth didn't follow suit with protocol. Jared had often gotten after him about his lack of etiquette, but Reggie quickly realized at a young age that he could care less about such things. He still had his doctors bag in hand and some of Eugene's blood covered both it and the tips of Reg's fingers, at this point and time he didn't give a crap about Jared's little meetings.

All he knew was that a young boy had lost a lot of blood and if didn't get help soon, he would probably not survive the night. He clutched his fist tightly, his hand was still raised and he wasn't going to let this one die, not like the others... no he wouldn't let it happen, this time he was ready to do whatever it took, he wasn't sheepish any more. He was bold, probably too bold for his own good.. Only time would tell. For now he had to say something and he had to say something now.
"I don't care about this storm or the fact that hooligans may be in town, the only thing I give a flying flip about is that boy laying on that couch bleeding to death... I 've sutured his wounds, but I don't understand why he seems to be getting worse. I think he has lost a lot of blood and I need someone to help me get him into town, storm or no storm!!", Reggie could feel the neck hairs on the back of his neck standing on end, he was angry, very angry.

His grey eyes flashed dangerously, though the head butler bit back his response as he gazed towards Eugene, the injured servant boy, his visage softening as he did so. A moment later the steadfast head butler looked Dr. Reginald straight in the eye, his eyes holding the image of the doctor and the wounded boy steady.

"Are you able to keep him stable through the night?" The question was a simple one, and it was hard to tell whether the head butler asked out of concern or pragmatism. His motivations however were cleared in his next statement. "I will not risk another one of the Jameson staff with hooligans running around with their guns. Law enforcement will handle the situation soon enough. But..." He paused. "Only if Eugene's condition will be stable for tonight."

"If we must make an excursion into the city, I will volunteer to accompany Doctor Hughes." Noelle speaks up with a steady and determined voice...maybe a little too determined. It is not out of the ordinary for her to be composed, but it seems like she's putting a little more strength in her voice than really needs to be there. It's difficult to tell if it's because she wants to help keep everyone calm, or if she's attempting to hide her own insecurity. "Normally, my duty would be to guard Desmond and Diana Jameson. But as they are currently away, I believe my task can be delegated to whomever requires me."

Inwardly, her mind is in turmoil. She thought that she had a handle on the situation up until now. Eugene having been accosted, and perhaps injured by unsavory individuals was a sound explanation. But Sebastian had said...there was something...human-like, but not human...

She had seen something like that, five years ago...

...Or had she?

She had to see for herself. If what Sebastian said was true...were those things really here, right now...?

She stands at the ready, her stoic face hiding her worries and fears. She can't allow herself to lose composure. Her job requires her to think objectively at all times. The probability that...those...were in the city now...is low. But it isn't zero. Even if it turns out to be false, however, she still has to be there to protect Dr. Hughes from whoever is firing those guns. Though Jared refuses to open the weapons locker, her own firearm is owned by her in full, not as the property of the Jamesons. Jared likely knows that she has it on her right now, she always does. They had a bit of an argument about it when she was first hired. So far, she hadn't ever had to use it. She hoped that it would stay that way through the night, but at this point, she was far from counting on it.

Reggie bit his lip... hard, almost hard enough to make it bleed. He listened as Jared responded to what was, quite literally a violent outburst.

"Are you able to keep him stable through the night?"

The Doctor was suprised by the head butlers calm response it wasn't what he had expected at all, he swallowed hard, a feeling of stupidity and trepidation overwhelming him. "You're a idiot Mr. high and mighty MD..", Reggie felt it again. It had been awhile, the doctor had told him that it wouldn't return, but as Reggie knew full well; doctors were not always right. "Shut up!", he said inside his head trying to quite the voice.

"Is that the best you can do, your a fool! Mother knew it daddy knew it!! No matter what you do you are going to fail you stupid moron!!", the voice roared.

"No I don't care you can't control, me... I'm not listening...", Reggie returned in his mind the feelings of inadequacy seeming to surround him on all sides. He looked at Jared's face, a stern look it was, with a smidgen of concern.

"Your going to fail, you big stupid fat-head, just like you did with...", the voice teased.

"No shut up!! I'm not listening! I'm NOT LISTENING!!", Reggie could feel the fear creeping back on him again, the memories of that fateful night. It began to try and play like a movie just being started at the cinema, the sounds of the audience as they situated themselves in their seat and conversed among themselves, the smells of popcorn and spilled soft drinks. He physically shook his head to try and clear the images and miraculously... they left, at least they did this time.

"I...I...don't think he will make it through the night, his blood pressure is nearly non-existent and we don't have any re cords of his blood type to do a transfusion.. plus the bites, I'm not sure what bit him, but we can't take the chance of him having contracted rabies or something worse."

A woman in her mid forties entered from the side room where Eugene was being watched over, her long green colored nurses uniform fitting her rather lithe but firm looking figure."I can concur with that Jared, the boy is very ill... I just checked on him and his temperature is going up again. This is very serious and not something we can handle ourselves, not to mention the boy is not even conscious." Constance Nolland Georgetown, aka 'Nurse Noll' had always had a way of convincing Jared when something was serious, not matter how determined his stance was, she hoped more than usual that he would put down his stubborn pride, just this once. She took a step forward just enough to show she would not be intimidated and turned her head toward Reggie. He looked distraught and reasonably so...

His eyes flashed as he noticed Reggie's agitated appearance.

"It would not do the Jamesons well if there is any sort of unrest with their staff." Though he did not target anyone specifically in his statement, he gave the doctor an imposing stare. Soon enough though, his attention switched, the butler turned towards the nurse who had just spoken. He nodded as he began to fetch something within his pockets; it was a key ring. In a few heart beats after that he gave his directions.

"Constance. Get the stretcher. Doctor and Noelle, you will accompany her with Eugene to the hospital. Esmelda, try to call the hospital and let them know it's an emergency. Sophie, get Sebastion. I'd like to talk with him." As Nurse Noll nodded and left to get the stretcher, Jared quickly loosened one of the keys on his key-chain. In that same movement he tossed the key to Noelle.

"Noelle. Use the Ford. The butler said to Noelle, mentioning the Family's American vehicle that the servants had occasionally used.

"The rest of you... stay away from the windows tonight."

Noelle nodded in solemn acknowledgement, glancing over to Dr. Hughes. She was sure he had his own reasons for doing this as well. Adjusting her gloves, she began making her way to the door. There would be just enough room in the car. They could put Eugene in the backseat with Noelle and Dr. Hughes in the front.

"I will begin starting up the car, and await your arrival." She says, looking back to Dr. Hughes with as much encouragement as she could muster. She herself wasn't sure how this trip would play out. She wanted just as much as anyone else to save the boy's life, but...who could know what awaited them, down in the city?

The phone's dials clicked and spun, and after finally having dialed the number to the hospital, Esmelda listened intently for any sign that the phones were working. She wasn't expecting much, as phone calls didn't work before, but an order was an order. Being the newest hire of the Jameson Estate, Esmelda knew that all the orders she received from the head butler was more about testing her than anything else.

You watch as Esmelda's eyes light up.

"It worked!" There were some others in the room who commented, and even one said that they should attempt to call the lord and lady. But moments after that, Esmelda quieted. "I'm not sure if it stopped working midway or if no one's picking up..." A few more moments after that and you see her shaking her head back towards the head butler; the phone's must still be down.

You see her quickly dialing again. But like before she shook her head.

It was then that Constance appeared, carrying what looked like a stretcher along with her. She made her way towards the doctor, and offered to help him move the boy.

The air was thick with anxiety and worry?Sophie hadn?t been able to bring herself to look directly at Eugene this whole time, she just couldn?t stand the site of someone suffering like that.  What if he didn?t make it? She knew he was hurt, but only now did she realize how bad?So bad that even Doctor Reggie wouldn?t be able to keep his heart beating for much longer.  Reggie?s emotions were so strong, she could see the stress clear on his face? She wanted to comfort him, but had a feeling this wasn?t the right moment. Eugene?s life was basically in the doctor?s hands?there wasn?t a whole lot she?d be able to say to make him feel better.

"Sophie, get Sebastion. I'd like to talk with him." Jared had ordered. ?Yes sir!? Sophie replied. She was happy to be of use somehow?and to also have a chance to leave that room. The worry everyone exuded was draining to her. Sebastian had said he was heading back to his room earlier, so she set off toward there. However, not far off from the entrance hall, she ran into him. ?Oh!? Sophie exclaimed, a little surprised to run into him so soon. Had he been on his way back? ?Hey Sebastian, I?m sorry to bother you, but Jared wants to speak with you again.? She told him. ?I don?t know what you?ve heard, but Eugene is going to be taken to the hospital now?I just hope they?ll be ok out there. You know, Reggie mentioned it could have been some kind of animal bite?I bet that?s all it was. I mean, I hope that?s all?Maybe some zoo animals got out or something! I?ve heard of that happening before, people letting the animals loose and stuff.? Sophie had a tendency to blab a bit when she was nervous or feeling worried. She smiled slightly, noticing herself that she was talking a little too much. ?Uhm, but yeah, Jared needs you...?

It took a moment for Sebastian to register that Sophie was there and talking, lost in thoughts. By the time he realized it, she was already midway through what she wanted to say, and he could tell she was panicked. Zat's right...she has probably never seen a grave injury before... He puts a hand on her shoulder and gives a comforting smile, trying to shake off a bit of her worry. "Alright, I'll go see vat he vants. Tanks for getting me, Sophie." As he begins to walk, he says to her as he pats her shoulder, "It'll be alright...zere are plenty of capable people here...ve'll be safe."

After walking out of earshot from Sophie, his thoughts turn to Jared. I svear, if zat man scolds me for my lack of composure in ze midst of all zis...If only he saw vat I did... Suddenly what Sophie said clicked. Zey're going outside!? Mein Gott! Zose fools, zey'll only get zemselves hurt! With that he runs to Jared to hear out the situation and hopefully stop it.

"You missed the meeting Sebastion." The butler spoke, his voice almost condescending. "We pride ourselves to be punctual and on time Sebastion. I expected better of you Sebastion." The butler spoke Sebastion's name more clearly and precise each time, as if to make a point.

It took all Sebastian had to hold his tongue. Even though this was the man who trained him, Sebastian truly despised his attitude now more than ever.

He decided to simply ignore the sharp comments, "You wished to speak with me, sir?"

"Yes Sebastion, to remind you." He strode up to Sebastion looking him over with his penetrating gaze. "...To remind you that the Jameson family butlers exceed service more so than any other servant. You have been working for the family for a couple of years now, and I have thought that you were on your way of mastering this particular quality. But..." He did not sigh, or make semblance of a negative emotion as he continued.

"... Service is a lifelong pursuit. And though you have made progress, you have still yet to hone your skills." He stared hard at the butler. "This is not the military. But the Jameson staff still expect the same level of dedication, collectedness, and attentive to the wishes of those you are charged with and to your superiors."

At this point, Sebastian can't handle any more, "Jared...it is because of my military experience zat I can say zis is not ze time for such tings. You did not see vat I saw, nor felt ze malice it directed. It's eyes were red for Gott sake! You say I am not serving vell, but I know I am. I admit I am not collected, but vone does not see monsters every day! I am more dedicated and attentive zan you seem to tink. And you should be veighing my vords more carefully." He pauses very briefly to catch his breath.

"I understand ze idea of obeying ze orders of my superiors, zat has never been a problem. It is ven my superiors do not heed the vords of those around zem that I lose my composure!" He says the word very sharply. "I vill return your vords to you. How attentive are you to the vishes of zose you are charged vith? I hear you sent zem out into zat chaos. By ze time zey reach town, zat storm vill have drained zem to ze point of defenslessness! And zat is if zey are not attacked first!" He lowers his head and grits his teeth. "Zey could die very easily trough such an endeavor. You don't realize how bad it is out zere...I know zat boy's life hangs in ze balance, but is it worth risking more lives vithout knowing ze situation better first?"

It is obvious Sebastian couldn't even answer himself if he tried, these dilemmas were his weakness after all. He could not see things clearly enough to be his decisive self.

Reggie entered the room gurnery in hand, nurse Noll followed suit standing next to the drop down stretcher. He stopped abruptly as he came into earshot of Sebastion's outburst.

Apparently the situation was worse than he had thought, he nodded to Noll and she took the cue to take Eugene's blood pressure and pulse. She shook her head and showed him the results. The boy was getting worse, much worse his skin was turning white and his head  was sweating profusely. If they didn't get him help soon, he would probably  not make it through the night.

But, what was it that Sebastion had seen, what had frightened the man so much that he would risk Eugene dying? What indeed...

The butler's eyes were clouded, but the man listened carefully to Sebastion's words.

"I have thought you calmed enough to stop spouting this nonsense about monsters. The storm was heavy Sebastion, and likely you simply saw the red eyes of a cat or some other feline. The gunshots have you unnerved, and they have indeed unnerved us all. But there is no sense to continue this tirade."

"Sebastion. The boy will die if he is not to receive treatment. Unless doctor Reginald is wrong in his assessment." Surprisingly, the butler agreed. "I would have preferred if no one else ventures out into the night. Hooligans with guns are something better dealt with the local enforcement. But..." He stared deeply into Sebastion's eyes. "If our doctor is correct in his assessment, Eugene is near death and his death certain." The butler glanced to the doctor. "Whereas the doctor and Noelle are not near death nor are their deaths certain."

"They cannot easily die, as you put it. And though there is danger, it is not guaranteed nor is it probable. We have one of our own on his deathbed. As the head butler of the estate, I have the responsibility to keep the staff in line and safe. You know this Sebastion."

"I..." Sebastian starts, then sighs, "You are right, Jared...I let my nerves get ze best of me, and stopped tinking vell. My sincere apologies." Sebastian then holds his gaze with Jared, "But mark my words, zere is no beast nor human alive zat could give off such an eerie malice. I know vat I saw, it was not any sort of hallucination. Just be careful...I don't vant anyone else to suffer like zat poor boy..." Sebastian puts his hand to his head, feeling a little dizzy after his unusual outburst, trying desperately to clear his mind. However, all he can see is the mute figure, shrouded in darkness, with its red eyes focused on him in malevolent lust. He shivers slightly at the reoccurring thought.

The night was still dark and stormy as the staff of the Jameson estate moved on their way towards their rooms. They hoped to forget the gunshots that still at times echoed in the far distance, yet for even as they tried, they could not get rid of the lingering feelings of unease that overwhelmed each of the staff members. The lights had been flickering even more, and more than a few of you noticed that the temperature in the mansion was going down. I was getting colder, and even though the heaters were still working, they did not readily heat the rooms well.

The sight of Eugene injured had worried the staff. They saw him being ferried away by the doctor and the nurse, heading into the garage, and soon towards the hospital. They did what they can to hold on to positive thoughts, but the the occasional sudden sounds of thunder awoke them from their forced calm and back into the reality of how things were.

Placing Eugene in the back-seat. Dr. Reginald and Noelle each occupy the front seats; the sounds of the engine coming into life.

Normally, Noelle would keep a window open if she was smoking in the car, but with the rain as it was, it didn't seem to be an option this time. It was falling heavily enough that she could only barely see through the car's windshield. She hadn't ever driven in conditions this poor before, but she decided it would be better to keep it to herself. Telling Dr. Hughes something like that would not increase his confidence.

"Sorry if the smoke bothers you." She apologizes, although it sounds more obligatory than heartfelt. She started moving the car slowly through the driveway, approaching the front gate. She had good eyes for the night, but at this point, the only thing that the windshield wipers were doing was smearing the rain across the windshield, not wiping it off. She opened the door, stepping out into the storm again to get a better look at the gate. Her suit was already soaked as it was, so it wouldn't be much worse on her attire.

"It looks like Sebastian wasn't able to close the gate." Noelle shouts over the thunder and pouring rain, as she gets back into the driver's seat, closing the door forcefully. She knew that he wouldn't have left it open unless there was a problem with it, but with both of them together, they should be able to push it closed. She drives the car slightly forward through the gate, before stopping it and checking the rearview mirror. "We should close it before we head out. It's not safe for it to be open like this, least of all tonight." She looked back at Eugene, before looking over to Dr. Hughes. "Can the boy spare that much time?"

Reggie closed his fingers tightly over the respirator bag then relaxed, the boys breathing was getting worse by the minute. The raspiness indicating a difficulty to breathe, he decided on using the bag to take the strain off the young lads lungs. For the moment the Doctor forgot about Sebastion and Jared, this boys life was more important.

He watched Nurse Noll touch the boys wrist looking for a pulse as she listened with her stethoscope. She sighed, a sign of frustration more than anything. The boys pulse was thready and fading fast. There was no way that he would last through the night. She didn't even know if he would make the trip into town, much less to the hospital.

They continued with the gurney directly in front of Jared, they stopped intentionally. Nurse Noll faced Jared her face showing anger and aggravation at the whole situation.

'Well Jared," She said matter of factly, her voice cool yet stressed at the same time. "Its your call."

Front of the Mansion: In Lorry Heading into town.

Reggie sat in the front seat of the vehicle his hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, the sound of the windshield washers keeping his eyes focused on the road ahead. Nurse Noll attended to the young boy, her face showing signs of concern as the pressed her fingers to the boys wrist. She smiled curtly in the rearview mirror where Reggie could see, obviously she was trying to stay positive.

Reggie watched as the rain drops hit harder against the front of the vehicle, he thought it strange that no other lights seem to be on in the city, there must have been a power outage of some sort, no matter they were but minutes from the hospital.
