Carrie barely heard the slew of radio transmissions. With her vision beginning to wash out and tunnel, she finally came to terms with the reality of the situation. This was a last stand. Having at least heard her Battalion CO's instruction to radio in, Carrie tunes her radio to the frequency for US Joint Forces Command HQ and immediately broadcasts.

"Seargant Cook, USMC, transmitting from Paris Island MCRD! Have come under attack by a hostile force of large, unknown creatures! Base overrun!", Carrie reports, then manages to come up with an idea despite her poor condition, "Carpet bombing the place is highly recommended!"

Carrie then rushes out the door, straight at the creature, aiming to get the muzzle of her weapon as absolutely close to the target as possible in order to increase her chances of scoring a useful hit. Every one of the creatures that can be brought down here and now, she reasons, is one less that someone else will have to deal with when they come to retake the lost position. Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup.

Firing your weapon you managed to hit it, and it was enough to take down the creature and you watched in satisfaction as it fell roughly to the ground. Its red eyes flickered a few times, only to eventually dim down and finally go dark. It would have been a celebratory moment, if not for the fact that there were still many more of the monsters throughout the entirety of the island, and the fact you were bleeding out.

It was getting harder to simply keep your eyes open, and looking down, you realized that your uniform was completely drenched with blood - your blood. You felt your knees buckle under your weight. Your eyes were getting heavier and heavier. When you finally collapsed, you heard your radio go off.

"Carpet bombing requested. ETA 8 minutes."

And after that, everything went dark.

The rest of the soldiers did their best to continue fighting. But by the time the bombers had arrived however, MCRD PI was a graveyard. Both the corpses of thousands of marines, as well as the metallic creatures littered the compound. Then the bombs were released. Explosions covered the entirety of the complex. Exploding shells destroying buildings and creatures alike with abandon.

After all, there were no survivors.

The Battle of MCRD PI marked the beginning of the end. The fighting and sacrifice of the first 12,647 marines, recruits and regulars, and the discoveries they made were reported to the rest of the country, as well as to the rest of the world, granting them an edge against the metallic creatures.

The four battalions were given awards and honors for their role. Among those who had received a posthumous Medal of Honor:

Cpl. Jack Meyer
Sgt. Ryan Carter
Sgt. Carrie Cook
