Title: Evolution game (super casual /TG/ style)

The rules are simple. Each post you choose one thing to add, change, or take away from one of the three organisms presented, or any descendants of said organism created by anyone else as long as that race is not extinct. Changes should be small, and gradual, but serve a purpose in the creatures evolution to the world around it. Every so often, i will roll a 1d10 for each species in the world to determine if they go extinct over the years. This does not kick one out of the game, as they can quickly make a new organism once again. It is preferred you create and leave an image with your post to help people see the change in the creature.

Every so often, large sweeping changes will occur that will shape the world quite drastically. These will not be warned about, they will just happen and i shall roll a mass extinction.

The planet this game of evolution shall take place on is young, younger then any could imagine could be. After a horrid period of storms and destruction, the arrival of billions of water crystals entering the atmosphere provided the cooling agent to let the planet settle. Over hundreds of millennia. the waters ground out sands, and created an environment life could finally take shape. This environment never changes, as the planets lack of a tilted axis creates and eve distribution of heat throughout the planet, and also make it impossible for ice caps to form.

There are three creatures. The anthropoid Jikyl's, creatures who hover over the oceanic floor near shallower portions of the sea. These creatures feast on nutrients and excrement one the sandy floor and reproduce through eggs.

The sponge like Inuo, red autotroph creature. These little things live within massive clouds of chemicals and minerals that float about the sea, and filter feed through the clouds. These creature reproduce by simply breaking apart into other life.

Then there is the grey Limre, barnacle like life that cling to cliff faces of oceanic chasms, feeding on anything it can find from minerals in the rock to bacteria colonies. These creatures reproduce by growing a second version of itself on top of its back, then splitting.

All these creature only possess a simple form of the sense of touch, and are around the size of a human hand balled up into a fist. Where they end up in the coming years is up to you.

Also, as i forgot before, it is preferred you provide an illustration of your creature with your post if you perform a change to it. Feel free to simply edit the base picture as needed.

Each evo cycle shall now be handled thus. From 10:01 AM to 10:00 PM, people may post 2 times for their evos. and Then, from 10:01 PM, to 10:00 am, people may post twice again. when these two time slots have been played through, the next round will begin. This is pacific standard time, so idk how that translates for other time zones. As such, i will post at these times to remind others or inform them that the round has started.

One may not post their second evo until 4 hours have passed since their first post in a single 12 hour time slot. This counts for when a new 12 hour periods begins. This is to avoid overwhelming people

Anyways, without further ado, I'll post the three base organisms.

The Jikyl start growing fins.

Reasoning: Better maneuverability.

Oh sweet, hi joe. I forgot to mention that its preferred you provide a picture for your new evolution. Simply take the basic picture, cut out your chosen creature, and then edit it to your liking. This is to let people see how your creature changes over time, and so i can make a more effective evolutionary line.

Crawler Jikyl

After generations of pushing itself with just its tail, a species of Jikyl evolved two small stubby legs at the front of its body just under the head plate. These smaller legs allow the Creature better control and speed when traversing the oceanic flow.

Limre

Due to generations of licking off the creatures and minerals off the rocks it finally grew a pair of claws to do it more efficiently; scraping its claws toward it's mouth that lies on it's underside.

Limre

the organisms begin using it's claws to bury it's way underground to get better access to it's food source. The Microbes it digests as it's main source of food cause it to glow lime green in the dark from the metabolized chemicals.

NEXT EVO CYCLE BEGINS!

Seeking more speed and maneuverability, The crawler has grown even longer legs. These legs allow it to move at higher speeds, and even jump up over areas that would normally bar it movement. When needed to eat, the crawler tucks them back under its body.

The Jikyl

Developed a fin on its back for maneuverability, much like the other Jikyls.

The Limre started to develop other legs that fold backward when it sitting or eating, providing the speed and grip that the back lobed fins do not provide.

The Inuo-M is a sub speceis of inuo which have developed a more advanced brain than the rest. These unique creatures possess a layer of nervous tissue just beneath the dermal layers, which directly attaches to the nerves responsible for its sense of touch. The result, owing to its diet, is an eidetic memory of all the touch sensations it has ever encountered. Rather than tasting everything it comes across for potential as a food item, it now remembers which touch sensations came from food, and which did not. It also recognizes the feeling of vibrations in the water caused by other forms of life nearby, and can follow them back to their source. This adaptation allows the beginnings of hunting behaviors.

A curious side effect is that this has resulted in some Inuo seeing each other as a potential food source, with sometimes deadly struggles ensuing. Cannibalism, while not common, does occur in those Inuo that can tell the difference between the sensation of their own body, and others of their species.

The displayed exemplar shows scarring from one such encounter, exposing the coloration of its nervous tissue.

"Lancer" Jikyl

A subspecies of the Crawler Jikyl that had the tip of their legs adapt and become elongated and very sharp, allowing them to burrow these tips into the ground and remain firm on the ocean floor, giving stability and making them less susceptible to being disturbed by water currents and letting them maintain speed in most conditions.   The sharpened tip also allows it to pierce through shells and carapaces.

The Limre

Dig even deeper and begin to develop a hard carapace exoskeleton that acts like interlocking armor to protect their organs from pressure and heat of the rock around them. This rock hard shell is difficult to pierce and keeps silt and sand away from joints and other vital areas.

3RD EVO CYCLE

The main line crawler organism has begun to develop the workings of a rather large mouth. While as it has yet to have been able to open it, a gradual crease developing in the head plate, and the development of a jaw structure, leads to the thought this creatures is in the midst of a massive change.

The Lancer subspecies of Jikyl start to develop a smaller set of legs along its torso.  They aren't evolved enough to increase their speed, but they allow a more firm grip on the floor or even allowing them to latch into something such as rocks or other organisms.

As generations passed the Limre's legs started to separate and grow longer allowing them to move freely, leaving the Limre's lobed fins as vestigial structures as it no longer needed to use them although it could be speculated to use the fins to help with grip on a sloped rocks and cliffs.

The Limre started developing sexes as genetic variation is favorable in not dying by other predators. Developing sex organs to start mixing genes instead of spending all of their energy creating a clone. (The pic is exactly the same as the previous one)

A new structure begins to form at the top of the head. The chitin splits and reveals an odd fleshy surface that seems to allow the Crawler to react to shadows and silhouettes above it. This allows the creature to determine where certain predators are if they are above them, and give it a chance to avoid them.

The inuo-m continues to evolve as a predator, with its sense of touch becoming more refined. Specialized nerve clusters flush with the skin now allow precise perception of the sensations the environment provides, turning the water into a medium that conveys the location and nature of motion across moderate distances in the form of changes in water pressure that are experienced by the Inuo. The Inuo-M now 'sees' the world around it through its sense of touch.

The Lancer Jikyl developed a small opening on their heads that lets them emit a noise, which combined with their hearing allows them to guide themselves through echolocation.  They recognize other Lancer Jikyll by hearing a noise akin to their own.  Though it's far from letting them communicate, this avoids lancers from trying to attack one another.

The Cyto Limre:
This unique creature, evolved out of the older species of the Limre, started evolving its skin cells into chromatophores as a result of being exposed to possible predators. This evolution allows the Cyto Limre to change its own skin cells into the surrounding colors aiding it with camouflage to encourage its survival. Because of this evolution the natural skin of the Cyto Limre has changed colors from a gray skin into a lime kind of skin.

Cyto Limre Second Stage:
As evolution went on the population of Cyto Limre noticed that only having an active camouflage ability was not nearly enough to secure the survival of the species. As a result of this the offspring started to develop an electric organ that the species could activate when in danger. This organ is capable of emitting a high voltage current to scare off or even stun predators.

As a result of this the Cyto Limre also developed its own body to be more resistant to electric currents so they wouldn't hurt themselves while using it. Another peculiar change has been noticed with these new species and that is that they all have a cross mark on the top of their heads. The reasons for this are still unknown.

Due to generations of breeding habits the Limre grew toes that feel the water vibrations and long legs for leaping. When the legs aren't in use they rest on top of the Limre's multiple thinner legs, when the limre wants to leap the thinner legs tuck in allowing the longer leg to slide off and prepare for the leap.

Unexpectantly, the Crawler Jikyl has had it head split along the seem that had been forming for generation and reveals a toothless mouth like construct. The creature begins using this to shovel large amounts of soil into its mouth then shaking out the dirt for the nutrients. It also now has taken a liking the the blue grass that has begun to develop.

On the blue Grass, its rate of spreading is beginning to rapidly increase, mile long fields appearing in what seems overnight. So far, nothing else has happened in the world, except that now there are small blue glows coming from the ocean floor if one were to look down on the world.

The Burrowing Limre

From years of living undaunted burrowing underground and breaking through dense rocks the organisms have begun taking in massive amounts of food. The offspring are free to grow of those nutrients without fear of predators and because of the need of these beings to break through harder and harder rock formations they have doubled in size from from the time they entered the ground while still glowing in the dark.

As it gains a more reliable food source, The Crawler Jikyl's begin to focus more on feeding on the grass. With this focus, the creatures have begun to go a longer tail, to allow them to put more force into their tails when they wish to speed along, increasing its speed though not its maneuverability as well. The creature is clumsy when it comes to turn.

(Uh, due to not knowing the new rule, Burden let me do 2 evos this one time.  My bad, I'll pay attention next time.)

Evo 1

The front legs of the Lancer Jikyl developed a smaller limb on itself, giving them a proto-claw  that allows them to grasp or even 'cut' things by using its sharp tips.

Evo 2

The opening on the Lancers' head that let them emit noises for echolocation purposes became wider, allowing them to collect some nutrients and feed itself in such manner.  Combined with its primitive claw, it can feed upon the grass, granted that it recognizes a field with such through its echolocation.

After generations of using the claws to scoop food towards its mouth it became apparent that this wasn't efficient enough therefore the claws widened into a shovel head like shape for digging for food and holding the food to its mouth.

EXTINCTION EVENT 1

With the rapid and mostly unchecked growth of the blue grass reaching incredibly massive levels, the chemical composition of the water begins to change rapidly. This change has begun to decrease the effectiveness of organic respiration and increase growth in bacteria and moss like life. During this period of time, massive portions of the plants oceans become covered in a thick layer of green slime, all of which is a combination of bacterial super colonies, mold like growths, and decaying biological matter from rapidly dying creature.

It is so bad, that the effective film covering the ocean begins effecting the atmosphere, causing it to heat up and increasing the frequency of storms, thus completely destroying the natural harmony the planet had possessed up until that point.

I will be posting a evolutionary line soon, which will label the extinct and non extinct creatures. Look to the first post or the post after this for it.

With the extinction of much of the oceans biological diversity, and the blue grass effectively producing itself into it's own extinction, the sea is now returning slowly to normal. However, the hundreds of miles long area of ocean covered in the germ film still suffer, as no light can reach plants below and the water is near uninhabitable for life. The cleaner waters are not much better, as many of the creatures of the ocean have begun to gather there. These areas are small, filled to the brim with competition, and suffer from massive and damaging storms and erratic oceanic currents.

To make matters worse, the harsh winds force these clean areas to move, making it so creature must always keep up or be left to die in the wastes of the dead zones. The world has changed, and only the strong may survive from this point onward, as new creatures appear.

The Lancer Jikyl, having survived the mass extinction mostly unharmed, developed an elongated tail, which allows it to be more maneuverable when going through sea currents after the safe areas to inhabit.

Barely surviving the extinction of hundreds of other species, the Crawler Jikyl's ended up running from the danger. Luck would have it, they ran the same direction as others. After generations of this, and the reinforcement of the idea they were safer together and could gather food more safely, small packs of Crawler Jikyl began to form. These packs are around 3-6 Crawlers in size, and each take turns watching out for changes that they would know about in the area.

In response to the changes in its environment, the Inuo M's stomach enlarges to accommodate two new chambers on opposite sides of its body. Lacking any form of interconnectedness, the lining of the new chambers 'digests' the matter moving through, breaking it down into its most basic parts as it is absorbed through the lining. The digestive process allows the Inuo to take in the respiratory gasses they need regardless of the chemical composition of the water around them. These chambers open to the environment through a muscular wall that moves water through the chamber by contracting or relaxing as appropriate, with the side effect of this muscular action being that the Inuo are constantly in motion unless anchored, and can achieve short bursts of high speed before hyperventilation results in over saturation of the respiratory gas.

The Inuo M Continue to lurk in the 'dead zones' of the oceans, feeding on carrion, and ambushing any creatures unable to keep the needed pace to survive.

Cyto Limre post near-cataclysmic event:
The event caused a major disturbance in the species pushing it towards the next step in its evolution. Having to be on the move constantly and the more polluted waters have forced the Cyto Limre to develop its respiratory system drastically allowing it to suck in more water through specially evoled gills. These gills feed water into two specialized reservoirs attached to the fins where it'll be filtered. The excess water can then be either stored or expelled through a narrow nozzle at the back of the reservoir.

This unique design allows the species to propel and maneuvre at high speeds through the water. Since the exhaust is filtered water the Cyto Limre is contributing to the cleansing of the polluted waters. The Cyto Limre will not only expell excess water as a means of travel but instead it'll expell short bursts of water regularly to maintain a constant fresh supply of clean water. As a result of this major evolution step the Cyto Limre has grown approximately 30% larger.

The Inuo M, continuing to evolve, reaches a point at which it can really no longer be considered the same species. For the first time, it develops a bony growth at the end of its tentacles, Thin, pointed, and sturdy, these sharp growths are the perfect implement to use in penetrating the joints of crustaceans everywhere, as well as forcing apart the seams in their armor. This change, being so alien to the Inuo species, can only cause the reclassification of this creature under the name Inaki.

The Limre M is a new off shoot of the Burrowing Limre. The Limre M lives completely buried. It has evolved a gland that secrets an acid that dissolves anything in its path, The Limre then absorbs the minerals it comes across and uses it for is soul source of nutrition.

The Inaki, with the sea pollution being so rampant, start to better filter the wastes around it. With the pores across its body, it is now able to process them better extracting every bit of nutrient left, from the bits of biological material, bacteria, and mold-like growths. This results in the Inaki being able to swim about in the "dead zone" for far longer than other species, and sometimes able to venture in the more polluted seas for limited times without harm or injury.

QuoteIf Erynn doesn't mind, I'm using Burden's redesign with the added things since.

Torpedo Ramulon: (Former Cyto Limre)
Adapting ever more to its environment the Torpedo Ramulon has developed fins to aid it even more in its maneuvrability in the water. Since it has undergone soo many changes compared to its ancestor the Cyto Limre it has gotten its own species name now. Unlike the Cyto Limre these species no longer are attached to cliffs and roam the waters freely. Using both their active camouflage and electric charge they are very capable of keeping predators at bay. The few predators that do decide to risk to hunt down the Torpedo Ramulon find themselves left behind as they have a hard time keeping up with the speed of these species.

There've been notes of the Torpedo Ramulon to devour smaller life forms after being stunned by the being's electric charge, however no actual proof of this has been found yet.

(NOTE: The gills have not been evolved nor has the creature increased in size since its previous evolution, it's just a new image to depict this species)

World of the ocean has had little effect on the Limre M still has had zero effect on the Limre M. After countless generations of living under ground, moving through the dense rock. its several points on its body has become more rounded and it has completely lost its fins. Because of this, its moves even faster through the rock moving at great speeds digesting larger and larger amounts of minerals.

Aerlanx Species

Once part of the Jykil's subraces, the Aerlanx have developed enough traits to be considered a different species from the main stream of Jikyl.  They have grown fins that function like flaps on its sides, retracting and expanding as needed and serving as yet another tool to aid the creature in moving through the sea.  With these fins, it is now able to rise further above the sea floor and swim further up.  They may also use those to facilitate their movement through sea currents.

With so many new density boundaries popping up in the oceans, the Inaki's touch sense has become less effective, forcing it to develop a new, improved method of sensing its environment. a specialized set of nerve like structures form near the surface of its body, which create a high pitched whistle through bio electricity. The result, combined with its sense of touch, results in a type of biological sonar that allows the Inaki to sense its environment in a highly detailed manner. Able to precisely 'image' the environment out to long range, and to range objects relative to itself, there is now little that escapes the Inaki's notice.

(That's fine by me. ^_^)

With the protection provided by their pack, the Crawler Jikyl, now known as they Joren as they had effectively evolved past the point of no return, began to evolve more effective means of escape and protection. By evolving to double their own length, the Joren were able to put more force behind their escaping bursts of speed while also allow them to be more flexible to defend themselves from predators like the Inaki, who they could cut apart if not grabbed by the neck.

Despite traveling in packs, Joren will not risk themselves for others, and simply run when one falls to a predator, protecting the young to save their future.

The Aerlanx developed their head opening further, and it turned into a primitive mouth, able to open itself further to be able to consume food at a faster rate.

Burrowing Limre

through random mutation their brain size has grown to the size of an otter. With this increased brain size they have begun digging communal tunnels and caves allowing them to live and work in small pacts. Because of the necessity to find more food to sustain a group they have added large amounts of Magnesium and sulfur to thier diets.

A curious twist of fate has caused a branch in the Inaki Family tree. Following an encounter with a Cyto Limre, the Inaki found itself with the hydrogen trail left by the breaking apart of water into its constituent parts having caught fire! The low burn drew more water into the respiratory stomachs, resulting in more hydrogen to burn, as well as an excess of oxygen that was now flowing through too quickly to be fully absorbed. A good thing too, otherwise the oversaturation of the Inaki's system would have quickly incapacitated it. The oxygen flowing through the chambers allowed the hydrogen to continue burning once ignited, though never increasing beyond the low burn it began as. The burning hydrogen gas provides a small, but significant thrust that enables the Inaki to reach consistently high speeds in a straight line, but makes maneuvering difficult. When striking at a prey item, it is common for the flame coming from one or both sides to be extinguished. This suits the Inaki just fine, as the constant thrust would make it difficult to see the attack through. The encounter with the Cyto Limre does in fact kill many Inaki, and yet more fail to adapt to the sudden change in their circumstances and die off. Regardless, all Inaki descended from one that survived an encounter with a Cyto Limre or Torpedo Ramulon bear the genetic memory of what happens when they get zapped, and know what it's like to be a Jet Inaki.

Torpedo Ramulon:
After the numerous encounters and the loss of several eggs the Torpedo Ramulon had no other choice but to develop a new way to secure its existence. Therefore some sort of tail has formed at the back of the species. However this tail is no ordinary tail as it has got a nozzle at the end of it. This pointy nozzle is sharp enough to even penetrate more tougher soils with ease and when done so the Torpedo Ramulon will inject its eggs into the soil of the waters. There the unhatched eggs will have an easier time of growing into little Torpedo Ramulons which will secure the existence of the offspring.

With the arrival of even more fast predators and threats, the Joren have had to adapt to better protect their bodies. By moving their arms back to the segment of body behind their head, they posses much more defensive coverage over their softer underbelly.

The Aerlanx started to find some form of creature catching up to them under certain occasions.  Though their echolocation helped them maneuver against this creature, in time they started to develop opening in their heads that allowed them for the first time to see, though very limitedly.   So far, an Aerlanx's eyes can only tell the light level of its surroundings and if anything, perceive very blurred out shapes.   Given the species long standing with its echolocation, its sight is simply a secondary sense for the species.

To be better prepared for sudden attacks by predators, Joren improve their visual sense by developing their eyes on the side of their head instead of a single eye in the center. This allows them to keep both side watched while grazing, and watchers are far more effective.

Torpedo Ramulon:
After the limited success of planting its eggs into the soil the species have found a better way to ensure their offspring by accident. A few Torpedo Ramulons have actually inserted their eggs into weak creatures and noticed that the success rate went up drastically as the hatched Torpedo Ramulons could feast on the innards of the victim and thus by the time they left the dead host they were already a lot bigger and more suitable for survival.

However, since this method was only usable on sick and weak creatures the species have developed a way of implanting their eggs into other creatures more easily. This step developed a pair of long thin tentacles which the Torpedo Ramulon could wrap around its prey while delivering a shock through the tentacles. This would then temporarely paralize and stun the prey upon which the species would use its tail stinger to inject its eggs deep into the victim's body.

Torpedo Ramulon:
The new method to implant eggs into living creatures did indeed payoff. However given that the newly hatched offspring ate its host made it so that over time the Torpedo Ramulon started to favor meat instead and developed towards this need. This led to the addition of a substance that would digest the victim and turn its innards into liquid. This substance would be inserted by the same means as the eggs were before this evolution. Thus the new species can now choose to either eat its prey or use it to bring forth new offsprings by the implantation of eggs instead of a digesting substance.

Once the victim has been injected by this substance the Torpedo Ramulon would then suck out the liquid innards through the same stinger. Another remarkable feature has been noted as the species started changing colors.

The Aerlanx, with their superior aquatic mobility have found themselves often maintaining long swimming cycles and riding on currents to find food.  With their limited eyesight, they have adopted the behavior to sometimes swim very high up in the seas, to avoid the struggles on the sea floor.   Being closer to sunlight than most creatures and the floor itself caused a form of algae to start growing on its shell.   The  Aerlanx sometimes scrape the algae with their claws and feed upon it, though they can't be rid of it entirely.   Nevertheless, it allows them to have a bare amount of sustenance.

After several generations of Inaki experience the ignition of their hydrogen trail, they develop an expanded digestive lining inside their respiratory chambers. This lining provides an excess of hydrogen and oxygen, allowing for a stable burn to occur. The Inaki also begin to recognize that the burning hydrogen from one of their kind can ignite their hydrogen trails as well. Occasionally, Inaki will seek each other out in order to re light their flames.

The Joren Continue to lengthen, allowing them now to completely wrap around an Inaki and squeeze them to the point of bursting, that is, is their claws are not free to pummel and tear at the Inaki as well. Other then The Inaki, The Joren seem to have few predators that can risk hunting them.

Torpedo Ramulon:
Only recently the Torpedo Ramulon has developed a way to lure in prey by using a bioluminescence lure at the end of its tail. It attracts curious preys and when they reach the camouflaged Torpedo Ramulon it launches its tentacles at a blinding speed and stuns the unexpecting prey. The shock delivered by these tentacles is potent enough to even knock out the largest of creatures almost instantly as some random encounters with some of the larger species have found out the hard way.

(Because of computer issues I missed 3 days so Burden said I could have 9 evos to make up that time.)

Aerochre

(Evolution 1) The head changed allowing it to bob its head to act as a shield to it's mouth or to allow it to move out of the ways when stepping onto steep slopes.

(Evolution 2) The mouth moved to the tip of its face to allow it to eat the minerals with ease.

(Evolution 3) to further it's ability to collect minerals it developed sharp/strong teeth to scrape and chip at the rock for consumption.

(Evolution 4) The body grew longer and thinner due to mating habits.

(Evolution 5) No longer having a use for its front most limbs they evolved them away.

(Evolution 6/7) Eventually they grew wings after having difficulty reaching the top most bits of rock. First by gliding with stubby wings to reach the top of the water but never emerging from the water. As their wings grew longer and more functional they reached out of the water but finding the sun burned them the cover themselves in a solid layer of super bacteria colonies to reflect the rays and prevent burning.

(Evolution 8 ) Finding that flying took more energy then they could spare they developed a better way to increase their metabolic rate. They grew lungs and a set of gills to use the sustaining gas as the final link in making ATP, allowing them to fly for a longer period of time.

(Evolution 9) Finding it hard to detect enemies while they feed under water they developed very simple eyes that can detect sunlight and variations in it's intensity. They are able to recognize certain shadows cast by enemies and rock clumps for feeding.

After several generations of Inaki use the flames of another of their kind to re ignite their own, the Inaki begin to stay together on a more consistent basis. This tendency to remain close quickly develops into cooperative activity in the form of packs. These packs tend to vary in size from three Inaki working together, up to six.

Raeian:
Generation after generation the Torpedo Ramulon grew larger and started to develop a more hydro-dynamic body to be able to compete with the other predators like the Inaki. Eventually the Torpedo Ramulon had evolved this much that it was classified as its own species being the Raeians. These Raeians were noticeable much larger then its predecessor the Torpedo Ramulon. It was a true predator now able to compete with the Inaki.

As it was almost on par with the most fearsome predators it no longer needed its camouflaging capabilities and thus over time the Raeian lost its ability to change its color and texture to match the surroundings. Instead of waiting for its prey it now was actively hunting down its prey to either devour it or to use it as a greenhouse for its eggs.

The Joren increase their overall size, doubling from the size of a fist to the size of a mans arm. It now begins to become to heavy for predators to pick up and manipulate.

Raeian:
Being an active predator now the Raeian had to develop improved ways to track its preys and thus it evolved two special senses around the frontal edge of its flippers. These new additions were capable of producing high frequency sound waves and were also able to pick up the echo coming from these waves. This resulted in a method for the Raeian to map out a rough image of its surroundings and any movement that would occur in it. Even though these new senses were still pretty basic it did allow the species to hunt more effectively.

The Aerochre

They have developed retinas on their simple eyes and gained the ability to see different variations of blue in the water for hunting other creatures.

To provide extra stopping power for their claws, the musculature in the torso portion of their body has changed to allow more powerful blows from the clawed appendage.
