Location: Amelia's room
Date: Day 13 - 7 am

The morning light slowly pours in through the windows of her bedroom, that had been pulled back to continue to let in the starlight the night before. Amelia wanted to have nothing to do with it due to her late night reading. It was one of those early mornings after studying and working hard all day. She wanted to blow up the sun or at least turn back time by at least a number of hours. This morning, in particular, the small child in her refused to be an adult and get out of bed.

In the ultimate act of defiance, she rolled away from those hated golden spears trying to assault her dreamland and pulled the blanket close like a shield. As she cracked open an eye she saw a fuzzy black mass within arm's reach. Feeling a sudden autumn chill run up her spine from the movement she half asleep pulled Nyx close to her in her blanket nest. Reveling in his soft plush warmth as she listened to his heartbeat. It was like have a living piece of home to have right alongside her.

Wrapping her arms around him closer like a teddy bear she listened to his heartbeat trying and only half succeeding to fall back to sleep.

Nyxolis Oneiron. The name of a certain black cat. Granted to him by a much younger girl years ago, who had taken care of him and had became his owner and caretaker. The name of someone grand and majestic, as sly and quick as he was light on his toes and determined. A marvel to behold. The shadow king behind the queen of light.

The black cat pushed the attack away at first as he amused himself with his thoughts, but it didn't really take much to overpower the cat at all. True, Nyx could have simply squirmed away, but a cat had to have his beauty sleep as well. So the black mass that was Nyx was pulled into a warm embrace by the red-headed human. And as Nyx continued to think about himself, the cat opened an eye lazily as he glanced at the master. Well, at least she being the master was probably what she thought.

How long has it been now? Years. And ever since they found themselves here in the New World, things were different too. Two weeks of a brand new world. Nyx thought about the all the events that had transpired in these last two weeks. Whether or not it was their fortitude of will or some other power, they managed to make it just fine here in the city. Not only that, excel. The whole world was a playground to be explored in. And if the Cave of Goblins told him anything, it was that there was adventure and excitement in every little corner of this new world. Sure, there were no more cat treats that he was used to, instead here, he managed to get that princess-maid to feed him little snacks here and there without fail anytime he showed up in the kitchen. The people reaching down to pet him were different too. Amelia's parents were no more, or her friends who came to visit. Instead that swordsman-prince, whenever he thought no one else was looking, would reach down to pet him. Their father too would scratch his chin. They were all hesitant at first, afterall, there seemed to be no other cats in the world that these people had come from. But... there was magic now. Weird powers and abilities. Medieval wars. Demons. Goblins too were no longer part of storybooks at all. Everything was different. Well, almost everything.

At the very least there was one thing in this New World that remained the same. Nyx moved a bit, settling himself into a more comfortable position. His eyes opening once again, and taking the sleeping form next to him.

Amelia Reinhart. The name of a certain fiery red-headed girl. The name of a person who was as gentle and caring as stubborn and unforgiving. Who, even to this day, continues to take care of him and act like a caretaker. Nyx smiled to himself as he began to gently knead Amelia's face. More than an owner, more than a caretaker, more than the true hero of Bursteig's human, Amelia was his friend. Nyx closed his eyes again, letting sleep overtake him.

Besides, there can't be a shadow king without the one in the limelight. Nyx smiled as he drifted off to sleep. He had the best red-headed limelight there was.
