Story / And So The Sun Rises
August 15, 2016, 01:34:09 PM
The single flickering of an open oil flame finally snuffed out as the smell of burning fat finally woke you all again. It's been hard to keep track of time in this dark underground root cellar that had been transformed into a jail cell. The five of you have been either tightly chained or even suspended against the wall depending on your size and weight with thick black iron chains and balls. The gate a good ten feet from the closest of you was also made from heavy and imposing black steel thick which soot that took two of the guards to open.

Now sitting in the almost complete dark, the tiny slivers of torchlight from the one room house upstairs were apparent. The ten or so guards that had worked to capture you all had never come down or shown their faces over the passed Two ands half days bringing no water or food. They simply left you to rot down here alone with these other four strangers. The cause for everyone's sudden imprisonment might be more or less justified. For the day the guards captured you and threw you in here to sweat and roast in the dark you either committed or were perceived by witnesses to have committed a pretty serious crime.  This crime was something that either resulted in a death, serious theft, destruction of a nobleman's/ Guild property, cursing someone, or so on that might make you lose you're head or at least an arm. Before you had a chance to hide evidence or run regardless if you did the deed or not the guards and the ensuing crowds descended as if out of nowhere.

Instead of taking you to an official or normal holding cell they stuck you here underneath a shack and took advantage of the busy streets to force you to comply without using your powers. For some your capture may have been more forceful then others and those people would have released as soon as they got close your exalted powers seemed to leave you. They then overwhelmed you with their numbers. Even now your powers have yet to return within this cell or with your belongings they took. Even the bods seem to stop your natural strengths or dexterity no matter how you struggle for the past few days.

You've been forced to listen to the guards muffled yet still audible drunken antics and you are pretty sure on top of gambling and the like they had courtesans stop buy at least twice. The five of you have been left to chat amongst yourselves for the passed day and may continue to do so as you all come to an unusual almost unnerving stint of near complete silence compared to the usual level of noise.
GM Note

Tell us what happened that ended you up here I'm leaving the general details up to you including what you've told everyone after spending 56~ hrs chained up together and the usual intro how your dressed and what you've been doing ect. And just to say again you did not have to commit the crime just be blamed for it.
Solars / Character Concept disscusion
July 13, 2016, 12:10:53 PM
Hey Guys,

so I've realized that it is probably best to get you guys talking over your concepts with each other for the sake of cohesion. You don't need to know each other at all or be originally from Nexus. The only rule I have is that the game starts with people freshly exalting in. In terms of world and city notes here is the important stuff on Nexus and the Lexicon covers the majority of everything else for the history as a whole.
Bastion

The well-to-do and well-connected of Nexus reside within; any others would do better to stay out.

The place where the rich and powerful of Nexus come to live and play, Bastion is a district of large mansions, open parks, clean streets and frequent patrols by well-paid mercenaries. High enough above the river that it doesn't get flooded, and far enough away from the center that the smells don't carry in, even the servants who live here do so in conditions that would make many in other parts of Nexus green with envy.
Cinnabar District

The cultural and military center of the city, Cinnabar lines the river and floods regularly.

A riverside district, Cinnabar is home to restaurants, teahouses, and cafés of highly variable quality, as well as being the site of annual and severe flooding. It also houses most of the mercenary companies who call Nexus their home, each one generally based within a fortified compound, with walls higher than the worst flood waters.
Firewander

The epitome of urban nightmare, the Wyld zone at its heart still spits out horrors to plague the city.

An urban hell of rickety buildings, makeshift stalls, gang warfare, Wyld-spawned monsters and worse, Firewander is generally inhabited only by those who have no choice in the matter, either through poverty or violence. Scant trade occurs here, and most of that would be illegal anywhere else in the Scavenger Lands and is frowned upon by the "upright" citizenry of Nexus itself, but the denizens make do with what they have.
Nexus District

The commercial and entrepreneurial center of Nexus, more silver pieces change hands here in a day than there are stars in the sky.

Home to the Big and Little Markets, the Nexus district is where the real business of the city gets done. Home to the headquarters of the Guild and innumerable other trading companies, merchant organizations and caravan masters, if Bastion is where the rich and powerful rest, then the Nexus district is where they work.
Nighthammer District

The noise of forges, smithies and other manufacturing processes resound night and day throughout the streets of Nighthammer.

Industry rules in Nighthammer, a place where three or four times a day thousands of workers travel to and from their places of work within the forges, smithies, looms and others factories that produce the thousands of tonnes of goods that pour out of the city and into Creation on a daily basis. The air here is thick with smog and the rivers are heavily polluted by toxic effluents, both by-products of the production that brings so much wealth into Nexus.
The Undercity

The Undercity of Nexus is a series of caves and tunnels under Cinnabar and Sentinel Hill. The black fog of poor man's breath clots and taints the air underground. The poor and those who are just scraping by live and work down here. Small, torch-lit markets thrive in the sunless enclave. Three main routes make getting around underground straightforward.
Sentinel Hill

A vast residential area south of the Nexus District.

This area of the city is filled with apartment buildings, hostels, tenement houses and town houses. Its is built upon a vast hill that rises up to bastion and down into Firewander. The District is named so after the vast sentinel towers that local mercenaries watch out from to see if any wyld spun dangers are coming from Firewander. Several of prominent cultural ghettos are present in this district, Calin Town, Great Forks Town and Maruk Town.

History

In the First Age the city was know as Hollow and was a bustling center of agriculture the keeper of three powerful magical dams that regulated the flow of the three major rivers. Like many First Age cities, its glories were slagged and decimated by the Usurpation. The city remained a place of little consequence throughout the Shogunate Era, other than a testimony to devastating price of the Usurpation. After the horrors of the Great Contagion ended, many refugees from all over River Province flocked to the ruined city for shelter. They built vast inter-connected refugee camps. After five decades, a vast coalition of small camps, communities, and market places ruled by feuding gangs rose from the ashes of this fallen city. In RY 52, the Emissary appeared before the city and soon there after the Council of Entities was formed. In a short amount of time all the gangs who protested their authority were killed or driven out of the city. The Council established the Dogma at this time, and the city garnered the name Nexus for its position at the Nexus of three major rivers. River Provence fought three wars with the Realm. Each invasion was repelled by the allied forces of the River Province. For a brief time the Realm occupied Nexus during the Second Realm invasion in RY 75. The Emissary himself politely informed the Realm Legions they were in violation of the Dogma. The Dragon-Blooded generals refused to pull out their forces. The generals all died by mysterious circumstance by the dawn of the next day. Nexus was nominally involved in the third Realm War, and did field Nexus troops at the final conflict. In RY 77 a Representative was present to sign the charter of the newly formed Confederation of Rivers. Over the first century of the Scarlet Empress's rule the Council and The Guild formed a strong economic alliance. This alliance brought much profit and prosperity to both Nexus and the Guild over the centuries. In RY 117, the Guild moved their headquarters to Nexus, thus securing it as the center of trade and commerce for the Threshold. In RY 373, there was a violent insurrection called The Nighthammer Revolt. It was put down by the Emissary personally, with no need for aid from local mercenaries.

Government

Nexus is rules by the Council of Entities, a group shrouded in mystery. Theirs is the power to add and modify the Civilities of the Incunabulum. Their edicts are enforced by the mercenaries of the city and the mysterious Emissary.
Council Members

Brueghel, the Evening Master; member of the Council of Entities in charge of secret and public business as well as the city archives, libraries and the licensing of teachers.
Ephiselle, Midnight Queen; member of the Council of Entities in charge of spies and informants.
Hayle, the Midday Husband; member of the Council of Entities in charge of public entertainment and the city's overall good health.
Kratz, the Astrologer; member of the Council of Entities with curiously undefined responsibilities.
Master Gen, Minister of Ways; member of the Council of Entities in charge of the district Assayers.
Pellicia, Dawn Sergeant; member of the Council of Entities in charge of the city's defense.
Thalevar, August Councilor of the Eclipse; member of the Council of Entities in charge of docks and waterways.
Udelph, the Doctor; member of the Council of Entities that represents the common people of Nexus.

The Incunabulum

The body of rules that passes for law within the bounds of Nexus, the Incunabulum consists of thousands upon thousands of pages, all carefully indexed, as each new edict by a member of the Council of Entities must be checked against every previous entry, and any previous edicts that it contradicts are removed. It comprises the Dogma, the six unchanging rules of Nexus; its capital crimes, enforced by the Emissary; and the Civilities, the chaotic and ever-changing body of rules, great and small.
The Dogma

No taxes shall be raised, save by the council.
    None shall obstruct trade.
None shall bring an army into Nexus.
    No-one shall commit wanton violence.
None may falsely claim the council's name or sanction.
None shall harbour a fugitive from the council's wrath.
This space is really to get you guys to talk and share ideas so feel free to post whatever

Grey finally managed to get the permits required to unpack his wagon and construct his usual out door stall. He liked being able to work out where a lot of people could see what he was doing. Some of the bards tendencies must have rubbed off on him because there would have been the exact opposite of his preferred method. Other craftsman always got suspicious of his methods and his nickname as the chosen of the gods of craft tended to cause all kinds of problems when it caught up with him, but ever since he had gotten with the half elf he had gotten thicker skin.

And now here was the traveling merchant setting up shop again so that he could begin collecting his materials and start his work. His outdoor forge burned hot with fresh coals and his tanning beds were freshly oiled. He set up a few display cases with shiney boubles along the free spot on the busy main road. He had use of what must have been an old horse stable that was almost in complete disrepare and slightly damp, but he had the space he needed at almost free. His cart in the back was now completely empty except for what looked like an ornate coffin. That however was for when he did not actually have to worry about rain the smell of dung and a possible angry mob.For now he had goods to make and sell and he could finally scratch that addiction he was blessed with.

Finally it was time to see who arrived at the Crossroads.

Since I've had a couple people express interest I thought I'd start a thread for people to chat ask questions and start building characters to get the ball rolling. A good place to start is character concept since exalted are people of exceptional ability who then are raised to god like level talking about the person you were before being chosen by the unconquered sun is important. To help I'll also see if I can find a character sheet

This should work for now if we don't like it or there is an issue i'll be working on something better

Serena entered the battle field unlike her other times when she had been borrowing clothes from the other guild members. This time she was in an airy dress and her blue hair tied back with a crimson ribbon and a small hair pin. It was rather unconventional to fight in a sun dress. But it allowed for the greatest amount of movement and was what she fought in for yeas when she  traveled with Kryas. This particular dress was as similar shade to her hair with a simple neckline and slit up the side. Though if any onlookers were hopping for a peep show they would be disappointed. Her original combat wear design had certain enchantments to maintain modesty. She touched the rope of prayer beads around her neck then set her mind to the task at hand. As She began to faintly glow with a cascading blue and silver light.

Grey had already begun to get Lightning bridled with his wagon and various supplies he  would need for the trip. This expedition was his bread and butter that and hunting large game is where he got a majority of his materials for his goods. He was largely already packed his gear sitting next o him as he poured over a map of the desert. Realizing that a horse would most likely would do him little to no good it meant that he would likely have to rent a camel to get there.

"Well I can't say its unexpected~" he mumbled while finishing drawing his course of arrival and making his final check. He was prepared for almost any occurrence that much he was confident about. He would make sure to leave there with a full bag of holding and a packed down animal no matter what history threw at him.

A high end bar and lounge the two story paper lantern stands out simply for its lack of height in the middle of the downtown area. Where everything else is monolithic high rises this small building follows the traditional aesthetic of bars meant to be sanctuaries away from the world at large. Through its heavy and hard to open front doors the open concept layout follows American sensibility through a bright Japanese taste. The building may seem plane but its front door is illuminated by two small red paper lanterns highlighting the engraved name of the place above the door.

The first floor only has a handful of tables and booths with most of the space dominated by a bar on one wall and a small space for live music in the other. The bar is made from real wood and tends to always be stocked with high end liquor. The second floor is a balcony lined with gambling tables mostly for card or tile games that are organized by the patrons themselves and provide an element of additional white noise for those below. There are several female hostesses in Kimonos helping poor drinks at private tables and a general air of communal privacy throughout the place. A bland is playing some background music on stage. without someone on the microphone.

Zephyr is currently managing the bar dressed in traditional form he is lightly chatting with a few customers while pouring drinks. Anyone can spot him across the space because of his hair though for a Japanese establishment it would be surprising for anyone who was familiar with the culture to notice how diverse the workers and clients were in terms of race in ethnicity. Metahumans of every variety were pouring drinks or running a few of the tables on the second floor that required a dealer.

Roleplays / [Interest Check] Exalted 3rd Edition
April 24, 2016, 07:44:28 PM
Hey Everyone,

So I've been watching some people playing the new version of Exalted done by Onix Path. Exalted is a d10 game that focuses on high cinematic action in an eastern fantasy setting. Players are one of the 'Exalted' those special people who are chosen by a god and given substantial power not because they are worthy but because they will make use of it. Its meant for high drama and high action with powers that can change the entire course of the world.

I think this will work with the forum but it will take a little work from me and the players to pull it off. I have learned from my other Rps to maintain scope so I'm going to try and keep this small 3-4 people. I think I'm also going to be running the world out of the book and place a small limitation on character creation as a result but most of the content will still be available. This game will be a great deal of rp in terms of negations and character interactions with a large amount of social combat on par or more then actual fighting.

The story will focus on the main aspect of the story the rebirth of the solar exalted who were once the rulers of the world but due to their hubris and gluttony were overthrown and labeled pariah. The problem is however is that the souls of the solar are constantly reborn after death and thus hunted by the now ruling dragonblooded exalted so that their power does not ressect in fear of a repeat. Even though the reborn solars have no memory, possibly no desire, and reject their past they are still hunted.Players will be one of those solar exalted as they attempt to use their powers as they will and avoid being hunted down and killed.

The setting will be nexus one of the largest cities in all creation (what remains of the world after the fall of the solars.) This walled metropolis is a merchant city with one rule "money above all else". The city is rulled by a political upper class and the shadowy Guild who both work in tandem to monitor the commerce and few laws that are never to be broken. With its huge population it and the surrounding area is perhaps the best place to hide.

I have yet to figure out the start of the story but all players will be newly exalted and continue from there.

Pros
In depth high impact game play

deep world and huge variety in character creation and development

Ability to build relationships and sway npcs in mechanical terms

Get to roll a ton of dice at a time

Cons
Heavy Crunch both narratively and mechanically there is a lot of stuff in that book so it will take effort to make characters and learn rules but when you get it down its fast and satisfying

players have to be willing to give what they get with something like this the GM needs to put it a bit of work and this is not a game like d&d where you can just get by on hack and slashing alone. I do not expect or want a novel every post a few lines at times is enough but I want to see that your interested and active in the story. And the game rewards that in extra dice as well so there is an incentive for stepping outside your comfort zone.

And I need players who are willing to kind of go ham and help because GM wise I always need more practice

Of note
This game won't be starting for a few weeks and we'll all be learning as we go
This game may be just a one off but if it goes well I would be more then willing to continue
I kinda want to build this together and will be using your characters and any suggestions going foward.
I want this to be fun and easy going on the player side and hopefully be a good experience :D

Feel free to post or pm me if you have questions

You are walking down a busy street when all of a sudden you see a group of people with shredded clothes. That along with the sound of breaking and sparking metal draws you attention to a pokemon who is causing all kinds of havok. The Pawniard seems to be in a mood to break things and you barely avoid some live wires that come cracking down as a telephone pole it hacked down collapes. If someone does not stop the ramage soon there is no telling the kind of trouble the little thing will get into.

Tales of the Guild (IC) / [Kryas] A Story from the past
December 14, 2015, 09:06:13 PM
Kryas was sitting out on one of the guilds outer terraces with papers spread out along a table a small notebook in his hand as he scribbled things down methodically. The weather was harsh as rain poured down in buckets but the roof blocked most of it from getting at his work. The half elf always liked days like this it reminded him of a shower to clear his mind. Listening to the consistent melody and rhythm was soothing and helped with his thoughts. He was planning on writing a book of stories and songs to go along side an idea for a monster and battle manual that he had floating in his head.

With Serena currently away from the guild hall and having left him behind he took the moment at home to begin compiling thoughts. He began tapping out a small tune as lighting arced across the sky.

The Saint's grace apartments building lords above the largest hospital in the city, New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Now most people would think living almost within spiting distance of the largest emergency and trauma center in all of New York city would be insane especially if you wanted to sleep well at night. But, Luke had found that nearly eighty stories up and with the right sound proof windows no one could hear a thing. Luke had set up this atelier with great care despite the various add-ons that the three story apartment already possessed like a gym, a library, and high end internet he had added his own improvements.

He had turned the study into a magical workshop that helped him with his many different magical arts, locked the space off from any prying eyes who did not possess his permission or the power to see it, and had a staff of homunculus to help him keep everything including himself in order. He also created a number of lesser magical security spells in case someone wanted to try and force their way in. He could even speed up time within its walls so that a minute outside would be an hour inside the home. All told the mysterious student had created quite a home for himself hear and it was all being fueled and strengthened by the city's own Leylines.

The hospital had managed to shift some of the magical pathways that crisscrossed the world with its wealth of energy that had accumulated there from all of the sick and dying. That energy feed back into the pathways and created another one of the spots where the lines intersected and his apartment building was close enough to share that space. Using several rituals he had managed to find a home that sat almost directly on a large pool of renewable mana. Few mages could say the same but then again Luke always was the gambling type and this time all his hard work had managed to pay off in the end.

Benefit: You can use the words of creation to enhance Bardic Music, help cast Good Spells, create Good magic items and enhance the creation process.

The words of creation are fragments of a lost language thought to be a precursor of the celestial tongue. Very few celestials remember some of these words, and even fewer mortals access to one or two of them as well. So great is their power, that no mortal mind can comprehend more than three or four words, and no evil tongue can speak them or bear their sound. A character must take this feat to use the words in any fashion. It is possible, though difficult, to communicate entirely using the words of creation. It has no words for evil concepts such as misery, despair, hate and betrayal, while the subtlety of it's terminology for beauty, kindness and mercy is astonishing. It has no written form, and is transliterated into writing it loses all power and meaning. Besides communication, there are four ways to use the words of creation.

Celestial Choir: The words of creation can be woven into song, forming music that surpasses any earthly melody and echoes the grandeur of the music of the heavens. A bard who has the Words of Creation feat can use these powerful words to enhance his bardic music. The use of the words this way is extremely draining, and the bard takes 1d4 non lethal damage per rank of perform required to produce the bardic music effect he is enhancing. The Words of Creation affect bardic music in the following ways:

Inspire Courage: Double the morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear and the morale bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls.

Inspire Competence: +4 Competence bonus to all skill checks.

Inspire Greatness: Gain 4 bonus Hit Dice (d10), the commensurate number of temporary hit points (add Con Modifier), +4 bonus on attack and +2 bonus on Fortitude.

Inspire Heroics: +8 morale bonus on saving throws, +8 dodge bonus to AC.

For bardic music abilities that require a perform check, the Wordsgrant a +4 bonus to the bard. The words also increase the save DC by 2 for Suggestion and Dominate and increases the bard's effective caster level by 2 for Song of Freedom.

Creation: In accordance with their original purpose, the wprds can greatly enhance the process of creation. If they are spoken as part of a casting for a Conjuration spell, the duration of the spell is doubled. Instantaneous spells are not effected. If the words are spoken during the crafting process, they grant the crafter a +4 bonus to the check. These uses of the words in this way, do not drain the speaker at all.

Exaulted Power: The Words of Creation help energize Good Magic Items and Spells. If used in conjunction with a good spell that has a verbal component, the Spell DC is increased by 1. If used in creating a good magic item, the words increase the casters effective level by 1 without increasing the cost. Using the words to enhance good spells deals 1d4 points of non lethal damage to the caster per 2 spell levels of the spell cast. Using the words to enhance a magic item does no non lethal damage.

True Name: Each creature has a unique True Name among the words of creation. No mortal is familiar with the countless true names of every creature in the world, no matter how extensively he has studied the words. Nevertheless, a creature familiar with the words of creation can research a specific creature's true name if he has access to Legend Lore and either Contact other Plane or Commune. Researching a true name is like researching a new spell. It requires one week per 2HD of the creature and an expenditure of 1000gps per week. The character must cast (or have cast for him) Legend Lore, once each week, but the material component cost is included in the research cost. At the end of the research time, the creature must cast commune or contact other plane, paying the XP cost for commune if necessary. He then makes a Knowledge check, using the specialty appropriate to the target creature's type (arcana for a construct or dragon, religion for an undead, etc). The DC is 10 + the creatures HD. If the check succeeds, the character has discovered the creatures true name. If the check fails, the character must pay the research cost again if he wants to keep trying.

Once a character has discovered a creature's true name, he can exercise his power over that creature in a number of different ways:

Impose Penalty: He can impose a -4 penalty to the creature's saving throws to resist a particular compulsion spell or effect.

Reduce Spell Resistance/Damage Reduction: He can reduce the creature's spell resistance by 4 or it's Damage reduction by 5. This effect lasts 1 minute.

Cast Teleport: He can cast Teleport or Greater Teleport on the creature without including himself as the target of the spell.

Compel Service: He can gain a +6 bonus for opposed Cha checks to compell service from the creature after he summons it with a planar binding spell.

Each of these actions are a full round action, which includes speaking the creature's true name and a binding incantation in the Words of Creation. Uttering the incantation deals 5d6 points of non lethal damage to the speaker. The character and the creature do not have to be in the same area or even the same plane. It is possible, for example, to reduce a creature's spell resistance before using planar binding to summon it to the material plane. The one exception to this is the Teleport function, which requires the speaker to touch the creature after speaking it's true name and incantation.
If anyone else wants to join this is the time to run up to the group before they leave.
Once you  have all prepared for the journey ahead and gathered the group. The ship sets sail the next day from the harbor and began the long journey along the southern coast. The seas were relatively calm the week or so ship ride, but it was far from comfortable journey. To call the ship cramped was the understatement of the year It appears as if Reginald had chartered the group a rather small cargo vessel to make the trip. It was crammed with all kinds of goods on board and made barely enough room for the four of you and the crew. What's worse the smell of fish in the open sun quickly permeated everything you owned. For the first few days until you crossed some border or another they even had kept you all downstairs in the hold for some reason or another.

Any time you ask any questions about the crew's activities they avoid your questions at all costs giving you a slightly uneasy feeling. What some might find humorous they even have to stuff Kin in a barrel of fish when he left the hold unannounced. Despite his yelling they refused to explain why though he still couldn't get the oil out of his hair.

Finally after the week of travel you all pull sluggishly into the harbor in the middle of the market rush where people easily get lost and are unceremoniously dumped before the ship disappears. You are thrown off so quickly that you are not even sure that you were able to collect all of your things on time.
Roll 1d20

on a 1-5 you lost one thing from your inventory
roll a with the number of items and that is the thing you lost.

1 being your weapon
The market stalls that line the docks are loud as the endless number of shoppers jocky for positions. Screaming and waving money you are assaulted by two things. The brilliant colors of the stalls and people from royal blues and bright yellows of the veiled peoples, and the other thing everyone notices is the burning sun that would be a killer if not for the ocean breeze. It's time to start exploring the city known as the Azure Jewel of the empire. If you manage to look around a little it looks like there is a main road into some kind of square into the distance, as well as a number of side alleyways where you could turn off into.

First off we need a better name XD

Second off this is the interest thread for an RP in space using the SWN system where i'll be posting stuff about the setting and answering questions for now till I get everything set up.

This game is going to be extremely limited on players for a few reasons. One being I'm busy with school and don't want to be overwhelmed. The second being I'm gonna try a new gm style which requires me giving more control of the story to the players and a smaller group makes that easier to try. Third I don't want this to die the larger rp's have a tendency to stagnate due to over commitment. So I'm going to try my best to keep up the pacing but i'm gonna be pushing you guys a bit as well.

As such here are some ground rules for this game.
QuoteThere can be multiple gaming groups in the same sectors

Due to the GM turn Gm's cannot be players under any cirumstance

All Gm's are responsible for maintaining the faction turn.

Each Gm mustt have thier owen personal gaming group (size does not matter from person to person)

Players may not switch groups without a story reason
Since i'm the only GM at the moment i'm limiting my group to

4-5 people

4 people have already expressed an interest so if you want the last spot act fast.

Setting stuff- more will be added in later posts

Key info so far: All parties will buy and maintain a ship of gm's choosing (lemon)

All players will be human (my game rule)

Setting
The year is 3200. Humanity is scattered like dust among the stars. The broken relics of a former day litter the sky and men and women struggle to rebuild the glory of humanity?s lost golden age.

For almost a thousand years humanity had expanded from its ancient cradle to fill the sky with its worlds. At first the expansion came by way of the enigmatic ?spike drives? that granted humans the ability to skip between stars. Countless nations, faiths, and ideologies sent colonists to the darkness above to find new homes where they could live free from the oppressive rule of Terra?s calcified masters.

The spike drive touched on different worlds. It folded the tissue of space and time and pierced it to emerge at distant stars, but the space between touched in turn those who traveled it. Over the course of generations, this subtle influence shaped certain descendants of the starfarers. The condition that resulted was known as ?Metadimensional Extroversion Syndrome?. Most simply knew its victims as ?MESses?. Later, they were known as psychics.

MES inevitably killed or maddened its carriers when they began to use their powers. The surge of extradimensional energy either cooked their brains or burnt a pathway through their sanity. It was only through decades of research and the expenditure of countless lives that techniques were developed for harnessing this power safely.
The channeling of psionic energy began the second great expansion of humankind. Even though hardly more than one in ten thousand humans were touched by MES, it was still enough to reshape human civilization. Vast choirs of psychics were employed to develop new technology, advanced manufacturing capabilities, and huge jump gates that could teleport whole freighters across interstellar distances. Spike drives were relegated to the frontier, to the distant star systems that could not yet afford to train the psychics or buy the components necessary to build their own jump gates.

This reliance planted the seed of the golden age?s destruction. In 2665, a metadimensional pulse of unimaginable violence erupted
from the Veil Nebula, washing over the whole of known space in seconds. Every psychic in human space was instantly killed or maddened by the surge, burnt out in what later became known as the Scream.

With the jump gates inoperable and all the psychic mentors insane or dead, the core worlds were suddenly cut off from the frontier. A few spike drive ships remaining in the core were able to make their way out, bringing tales of horror, starvation, and frantic warfare over shipyards and orbital factories. Most of the core worlds are thought to have perished, cut off from the worlds that supplied their enormous populations and fueled their vital technologies.

The centuries that followed were known as the Silence, as unnumbered human worlds fought to survive their sudden isolation. Some slid into barbarism or worse, their planets unable to support a starfaring civilization. Some worlds lacked metals, or fossil fuels, or any one of countless other vital ingredients for maintaining their industry. And all, of course, lacked the psionic mentors necessary to train a new generation of psychics.
Over the past six hundred years, humanity has slowly, painfully begun to heal the wounds of the Scream. Not all worlds were incapable of independent survival, and these hardy planets have become the linchpins of stellar nations and miniature empires. Trade routes have revived with time and the building of new spike drives. Expeditions are regularly mounted to the tomb worlds of the outer core to scavenge what can be reclaimed from the bones of the dead past.

Yet a pall hangs over these efforts. Great sacrifice has revived some of the old secrets of psychic training, but no world dares rely on psionic forces any longer. The nature of the Scream is still a mystery. For now, humanity strives to build a world that does not rely upon powers it cannot fully understand or completely control.

Human space is a vast canvas of mystery to most. Ancient nav charts are long out of date. Alien races have since moved into many formerly human-held sectors, and there remain ruins of races that long predate mankind. Warlords and petty tyrants scheme to expand their stellar domains, and brave souls struggle to recover lost secrets.
Stars without number await you.
Kryas was looking to do a bit of artistic practice today. It had been a while since he had done any kind of tattoo work and he was getting that itch that the bard got to be creative. Instead of sitting at the loom he was looking to do something a little more permanent. So he had first asked around those guile members who looked like they had nothing better to do but drink and found absolutely no success. It seemed that the half elf had built up quite a reputation for himself for doing weird magics, and though the guild members loved when he turned his odd mind to the adventures or people they fought. They were not so keen when the bard was bored and looking to have his fun at their expense. The bard normally meant well and things ended up alright, but anyone who would be considered normal who agreed to take part came back changed in one way or another.

So he was left to find his canvas the old fashioned way. Going to the central square just outside the market he set up his lyre and began to play to the passerby drawing in a crowd. All the while on a wooden board he brought with him he had written:

Free tattoos
- interesting designs to inspire your daily lives will surely make people see in a new way-

looking for willing subject

All the while he was playing he could smell the cooking meat from the stall closest. They were selling grilled cow by the leg and rib it seemed along with several types of beef skewers and sausage. Most people who would stop and hear him play for a moment would be coming from that stand. Any spare change they had they seemed to be more then willing to throw into the basket he had by his knee.

He is one of the well known merchants who has mad this town his home. An 'enterprising' man known for his trade routes to far lands and exotic goods. His name is Reginald Hals and he carries himself as a much younger man then his hair that betrays him.

He and and a quivering attendant move up to the notice board and calls to everyone.

"I am looking for a few brave souks willing to go on a little errand for me to the desert kingdom of Shadar!" his voice boomed jollily as he stroked his goatee. "I have made an important purchase and now need reliable escorts to get it back here unharmed and as you all know the guild is the best!"

"Anyone going of course will be rewarded greatly!"

Mission Board (IC) / [Open] Kryas' Story book game
November 20, 2014, 09:10:04 PM
Kryas has set up a new bar game with a magical Grimiore that he has ?Found?.  Depending on who joins him he will tell them a unique story that they can influence. Depending on the choices of the characters their avatar may save the world, turn into a squid, or just get home for dinner. There is  a prize for this game however. At any decisions you can choose to increase the challenge or strangeness of the story by betting tokens. If you overcome those obstacles then you get the amount you bet if you fail then you lose that amount. If a section of a story ends or an avatar ends up dying then all debts must be paid. If you cannot pay then you get a negative affect to your actual character.

Avatars act exactly like normal characters except they will always start with 10?s as there based stats at the beginning for basic rolls. And level up based off of story performance then experience.  If an avatar dies and you want to rewind to the last position it will cost half your tokens and 200 gold. If you finish a story and want to continue using that avatar in another story then that will cost 100+50 gold for every time. If after you finish or die and you want to start a new story it costs 500 gold including the first time.

As you will be writing nothing other then choosing an option you will not gain any exp and I will only gain free form exp as well as any gold you owe me.

There are also only a few openings at anytime because I have plenty to do already XD so it is first come first serve. Until I open more slots up
History:

Before the accident, He was a twenty four year old law student who lived in a somewhat seedy part of town to save money. One night during a horrible rain storm he found a black cat stuck on a ledge of what appeared to be an abandoned building soaked  to the bone. Not feeling right leaving the poor thing stuck there he climbed the outer side trying to reach the creature. Going inside the boarded up door way he could not help but feel a strange chill go down his spine, however he just put it off as a possible affect from all the rain. As he entered the building he thought it would be simple enough to just find a stare way and grab the animal  However he never made it due to some faulty floor boards in the entryway that snapped under his eight landing him right in the middle of some kind of magic ritual occurring in the basement. A ritual of one of the underground magician crime rings.

He was enveloped in the arcane energy of spell it permeated every part of his being including a large amount of magical backlash and pain. He thought he was going to die and by all means he should have as he had absolutely no magical talent to protect him. But some how he managed to survive. When he awoke his body had been left where he fell and clothes shredded to rags. He also had  very little memory of what happened that night, or how he got there in that basement in the first place. To say the least he had been more then a little freaked out to be left for dead in a ring of wax and chicken blood. But little did he know a night spent on the street would be the least of his worries.

When he finally got home and checked himself over he found nothing out of place except for a new strange black mark on his right pec that he thought at first was some kind of burn. As the days went by he would begin seeing strange things out of the corner of his eye and increasingly bizarre dreams would fill his nights regularly. When the first physical transformation occurred he was on the basket ball  alone trying to clear his head as about went about playing he ended up growing four inches in height and gaining twenty pounds in that game alone. Not even registering the change until he tried to walk afterwards and almost falling on his face. Not to mention the need for new clothes. looking himself over he also noticed the black mark had spidered out slightly becoming  similar to a tribal like tattoo.

It has been six months since that first major encounter and he still does not have a grasp on his power. He's been forced to quit school from both the over stimulus and his inability to focus and now works nights at a local quite bar in the higher end of town, as a bartender trying his best to avoid further changes to his mind and body. Since that first change he has experienced several dozen changes mostly small ones like eye color to taste in shirts almost all of these have reverted back to normal with the exception of the initial change. He has managed to figure out that it is the things he does or is involved in that seemed to trigger the changes most often.

Over the last month or two he has also begun trying to research a cure but has no idea where to start and is to paranoid of what might affect him if he goes to the hospital. So desprate he has taken to the streets at night as a hero trying to hunt down any clue he can find that might lead him to any kind of answers and stopping the occasional crime when he feels it's necessary or he believes some criminal might know something. He's morals don't allow him to take to a life of crime.  As such he's started warely practicng kick boxing but stops any time he feels even a little off.

Rules / Karma Rewards
August 18, 2014, 03:59:48 PM
Quote from: Throndir on November 13, 2013, 10:05:25 PM
A list of rewards. The list isn't final, and it may change randomly.

You earn Karma points if someone hits +Karma on your profile (That's the Appluad button you see to the left underneath my avatar). Give people karma when they post something interesting, or if they did really well in roleplaying, or if you're just feeling generous. Basically, if they roleplayed and posted well, hit the +Karma button! They can also be given out in small quantities by DMs. (We would prefer that karma points are generated mainly be the community rather than the DMs handing them out).

This list is open to suggestions, if you feel some rewards are too much, or cost too little, please speak out. This is an evolving list.

    Important Note
You can only spend 1 set of karma points per turn. Eg, you can't spend 50 karma points, to attack 50 times on a target.

In general, these costs are *before* you see the results. If its after-the-fact, you will probably have to pay twice the listed cost below.

    Add to a Roll
    • Cost 10, Add to Roll. When you spend 10 karma point to improve a 1d10 roll by 1 point
    Using Skills
    • Cost 20, Take 10 on a skill check, can be done even if threatened or distracted. (But can't be done in combat). Can be used if there are negative consequences to failing.
    • Cost 10, Reroll a skill check.
    • Cost 30, Take 10 on a skill check, even in combat. Can be used if there are negative consequences to failing.
    Take Extra Turns
    • Cost 5, take an additional move action.
    • Cost 10, take an additional standard action.
    • Cost 20, take an additional full-round action.
    • (Price increases by 5 for each use in an encounter.)
    Special Actions
A character can perform certain tasks by spending an action point. In addition to the actions described below, some prestige classes or feats (see below) might allow the expenditure of action points in order to gain or activate specific abilities, at the GM?s option.
    • Cost 5, Boost Defense. A character can spend 5 action point as a free action when defending from an attack, increasing the defense roll by 1
    • Cost 15, Extra attack. During any round in which a character takes a full attack action, he may spend 15 Karma points to make an extra attack. Action points may be used in this way with both melee and ranged attacks. You must declare the use of this action point for it to cost just 15. Otherwise...
    • Cost 25, Extra attack. During any round in which a character takes a full attack action, he may spend 25 action point to make an extra attack. Action points may be used in this way with both melee and ranged attacks. You may call this after you have posted your first post, and do not like the result.
    • Cost 10, Stable. Any time a character is dying, he can spend 1 action point to become stable at his current hit point total.
    Earn Yen and CP
    • Cost 1, earn 25 Yen.
    • Cost 5, earn 125 Yen.
    • Cost 10, earn 250 Yen.
    • Cost 15, earn 375 Yen.
    • Cost 20, earn 500 Yen.
    • Cost 1, earn 1/2 CP.
    • Cost 10, earn 5 CP.
    • Cost 20, earn 10 CP.
    • Cost 50, earn 25 CP
    Upgrading skills and Characteristic
    • Cost 5, permanently increase skill by 1 point.
    • Cost 20, permanently increase lowest level Characteristic stat by 1 point.
    • Cost 30, permanently increase Characteristics stat by 1 point. (Can't be the highest stat)
    • Cost 40, permanently increase highest level Characteristics stat by 1 point.
