The academy is abuzz with activity, as bells, with a sound akin to military alarms, resounded throughout the open campus. Slowly, after the initial shock, you recall with no small amount of dread that such sirens could only mean one thing: Mr. Windstart.

Thus with somber steps, you move with the rest of the students towards the designated location-a patch of open field surrounding the academy.

"Listen up, you dregs!" The teacher shouted at the gathered audience. "I'll only say this once! No questions! No comments! No excuses!" The man momentarily glared at the students before continuing. "As some of you may recall, today is the day that the academy's 'fitness program' officially begins and your slacking officially ends."

"For now," he began. "We'll start with a very docile, very simple task", Mr. Windstart continued while gesturing towards the several mile long track field forming a complete circle on the academy's perimeter. "The event which some students have lovingly dubbed 'Death Race.'"

Mr. Windstart smiled. "Nice naming sense, by the way."

"Anyways, there is only one condition to passing this task: cross the finish line, preferably first. There are no rules in this race apart from those found in your student handbook. However, should you 'accidently' trip a rival on your way to the finish line, then that's just fine!" He exclaimed. "After all, competition breeds excellence."

"Now I'm sure you're all tired and worn-out from the events of the day and this rather pleasant invitation," Mr. Windstart said in a somber tone. "THEREFORE, I shall have several academy-owned pokemon encourage you all on your way to success!" He shouted while raising his hands towards the heavens.
Right on cue, a swarm of Beedrills stream out from behind Mr. Windstart and heads towards you and the rest of your fellow students.
You stand on a carefully built dirt path circling around the academy. There are several rocks and pebbles that lie alongside the path, as well of several dozen trees and a few man-sized puddles. For the most part, a small, but vicious river runs parallel to the dirt road. However, there are several instances where the river intersects with the path, causing the creation of several wooden bridges roughly 10 feet wide and 60 feet long. Incidentally, you find yourself not more than 40 feet from one such bridge.
QuoteEvery round, players must make an athletics check (if they are simply running the race normally) or fall victim to a swarm of beedrills. I will describe the surroundings every round. Feel free to be creative, and roll additional skill checks (if feasable) if your character wants to try something else (additional bonuses or penalties may apply). Regardless of the result, players are given something:

Fail Reward:
1 Trainer EXP
$100

Succeed Reward (Crossed the finish line):
1 Trainer Exp
1st Place: $1000 +1 Trainer Exp
Everyone Else: $500

Extra rewards for creativity, or good roleplaying.

Fayleen Ains

"A race huh? Perfect." Fayleen had said as she stretched her legs and cracked her knuckles. She was in the track & field club after all, and she was fairly confident that she can get by. There were others there that she knew would have a harder time at least. When Mr. Windstart called for the race to start, with a horde of Beedrill chasing after them, Fayleen was more than prepared.

The race kicked off as Fayleen made their way out from the starting line. She dashed forward, pumping her lets as fast and as hard as they can go. She wasn't going to lose.

Oreah smiled as she watched the swarm of Beedril , and picked up a rock and threw it at a Beedrill that had caught her eye.

She then turned around, and broke out into a sprint as soon as she determined she had effectively gotten the right Beedrill's attention.

#3
Kedric Larns

Kedric was never one to be so intently examining other students, but he had to admit he did see a peculiar sight when one of the students had begun throwing their Bulbasaur straight into trees calling it 'training'. Needless to say, Kedric thought the idea was genius.
"HAHAHAHAHA!" With that Kedric launched his Sandshrew straight at the person in front of him.

Throw Sandshrew at a person which beats my Athletics below. If no one is ahead, will be throwing him at the next player who does get ahead. GM can choose who if there are other characters ahead.

As the race takes off, madness ensues: Some students flee with little direction in mind, crashing into several trainers, several pokemon and..

Others, however, take to the race somewhat seriously with a certain individual even picking up and successfully chucking a rock at a nearby Beedrill,

Then there are those, mostly young impressionable Bug Trainers, who tried making peace with the Beedrills... to very little effect. But, as if already predicting this outcome...

As always, it was hard to tell whether one should be worried or not in the care of a Xan academy medic: One such doctor had begun pummeling a fallen student with mailed gauntlets of some sort; Another pulled out a cleaver; And yet another equipped what appeared to be a revolutionary new medical instrument-the Needle Launcher 3000 (Named so for the number of needles fired per second).

It was glorious.

And in the end, such actions actually ended up healing students. That was always a plus. "Ah, " Mr. Windstart let out, while soaking in the mid-day screams from both those in need of treatment and those being treated.

"the memories."
Fayleen's practice and hard work shows, starting her off in 2nd place.

Oreah's sudden sprint carried her far ahead of the pack, and would have placed her in 2nd

(Also worthy of note: One Beedrill in particular is zoning in solely on Oreah)

Kedric learns that running is just like digging. He lands in 1st.

The dirt path continues and many, many students are running alongside you, unconsciously forming into several large groups trailing behind. As always, rocks and pebbles dot the path. The trees have grown denser, however, though there are now significantly fewer man-sized puddles-in fact, you could only find one. The river is far more tame around this bend and does not intersect with the road in the slightest.

Nena Ains

"Don't let him beat you Fay!" Nena called out cheering on the participants of the race. Kippy was with her too, and as Nena cheered, Kippy started yapping as well.
Cheering for Fay!

Fayleen Ains

"Kedric!" Fayleen yelled as her classmate zoomed ahead of her. "DON'T YOU THROW THINGS AT PEOPLE!"

A moment later a Pok? Ball blasted out of Fayleen's hand straight at Kedric.

Oreah, seeing how she had done exactly as she intended, turned and began to sprint down the course, having wanted the whole time to make the easy test more challenging by giving the Beedrill a personal reason to come after her.

Thanks in no small part to the swarm of adrenaline-inducing Beedrill chasing behind them, the students made good progress, having already traveled a distance some originally believed was beyond them. Thus, with their confidence growing, the student?s morale was at its peak
For a tiny tree, a mere 3 inches in diameter, blocked the only passage through the vicious enclosure of the white knee-high fence ahead.
http://www.youtube.com/v/WvIy5j5ZZi0&autoplay=1
It was a desperate situation. Already, several students in the lead pack were laying down in utter despair. The mere sight of the small innocuous tree, likely triggering some kind of phobia, caused the students to moan:

?NOOOOO!?

?To think it would end like this??

?Why, just why??

??This is far too brutal.?

?I want to go home!?

??ha? hAhaH??

?AHAHAHAHA!!?

Each student handled the situation different; one even began to laugh hysterically. But within all this chaos, the figures of three people were still seen running the race.
Even without her own personal cheer squad supporting her, Fayleen manages to overtake Kedric with ease.
Kedric then takes a solid hit from Fayleen?s throw, allowing Oreah to overtake him in the current rankings.

Not much has changed: The dirt path is still continuing on into the distance. Rocks and pebbles still dot the road. The trees are still in abundance in the immediate surroundings. However, there are now plenty more man-sized puddles lying around the area, especially near that innocuous 3-diameter tree (This tree looks like it can be cut down).
