Title: [Kin] Challenge Ladder
Post by: Throndir on May 28, 2016, 05:21:30 PM
As the arena opened up, you see some sort of kitty 115 ft. away.

Roll for initiative! (And perform)

"A...cat?" Kin stares in confusion. "A cat."

The halfling blinks a couple times. "A cat!? I'm fighting a CAT!?" It was obvious Kin was a little insulted at the idea. "I know these tests start low, but this just feels cruel."

Nonetheless, Kin charged forward, readying his trusted greatsword for an underwhelming kill.

[info]Kin does a double move charge. No attack, just closing distance.[/info]

"Ow!" Kin yelped as the cat managed to scratch him. But even taking damage and rushing forward just didn't get him in the mood.

Without so much as a quip, Kin swung his sword at the now-adjacent cat, hoping to end this quickly.

With a bright burst of light, the cat was forcibly teleported from the arena grounds just seconds before it would be horribly and irrevocably mauled into oblivion.

"Well well well, what have we here..?" an almost imperceptible voice muttered silently from the announcer's box.

"Not bad for your first round, Roomi-Ahem, CHALLENGER!!"

[spoiler="But the next opponent will be a far greater foe than you can ever imagine..."]
"Yourself"

As the next round was prepared, you see in the distance what looked to be a robed figure, covered from brownish-black clothing. Apart from that, it was still too far to get any more details.

Kin winces at the voice of his new announcer. "Great, I have to listen to Lyolf's voice the entire way through this...Like I don't hear it enough." Kin clicks his tongue, swinging his blade into position.

"Lyolf? I know not of this Lyolf of whom you speak!" The unidentified announcer proudly uttered from his box.

"But enough about m-err this Lyolf-person, for today... I treat you all to a battle of EPIC PROPORTIONS, a fight LARGER than that which you have ever seen, a conflict as TALL as the ages itself!"

"I see what he did there." Lia said to herself, almost starting to laugh as she watched the fight below. But then she stopped her mirth midway. As the beginnings of her smile turned into a frown.

That's right.

She still hated the announcer.

Kin was doing his best to not grind his teeth in frustration. Instead, he decided to vent his frustration on the foe before him.

"I don't know what you are, but after that lame joke, I can't stand your presence." Kin calls out to his foe, as he began to run forward, his footwork becoming non-standard as he did so. Soon, no matter how he moved, it was liken there was an after-image attempting to move another direction. People were rubbing their eyes in disbelief, unsure of what they saw.

[info]Kin is using Formless Dance stance, and moving as close as he can to the foe (the distance wasn't stated, but I assume the same)[/info]

"I don't see you, you don't see me; I don't see you, you don't see me..."

However, even such grand displays of "stealth" were of little use against Kin's trained eye, and thus the creature (who had peeked through his firmly clenched fingers only to see the charging halfling still locked onto his position) gave a desperate yelp and with renewed vigor...

"What!? Where did he go!? I literally just saw him, but he disappeared when he covered his eyes!" Kin called out in as shocked a voice as he could. Of course, he could see his foe, but if he could convince him to believe covering his eyes made him invisible, Kin would be much more satisfied with the 'fight'.

Kin continued to charge forward, then, at around 30 feet from his foe, closed the distance with a sudden leap. Upon landing, Kin took one step, giving his blade enough momentum to sweep across the odd, cowardly creature before him.

"HAIL HYDRA!"

An hour later the arena was cleared and the new challengers placed into combat. You didn't know what to expect, though you knew the fight was to be harder. Soon enough the next opponent was unveiled and before you stood a serpentine creature, like a wingless dragon, but had five heads attached to the body. It towered to maybe 24 ft. in height. Though even that was an estimation as the way the heads moved around and the necks coiled, that it made it difficult to get a good measure. Unlike the other previous rounds however, there was a sizeable crowd to this one. Most of the would-be adventurers had to stop at the fight before, and from here on out were perhaps the toughest the event organizers could get together.

"...because the next opponent is absolutely delicious"

[info]Assuming, you'll want to proceed to next round as-is. If not, be sure to state any actions you may have done, such as drinking a potion of cure light wounds.[/info]

An hour later as the arena was cleared up and you ushered back in, on the other side of the arena was a large creature of some sort. From your point of view, it looked like some sort of pile of flesh and blubber. It looked rotting, though you couldn't quite decide if it was undead or not. The most prominent feature of this rotting blob of flesh was a large and gaping maw filled with sharp teeth. There was a much larger crowd than even last match, and though it wasn't quite as full as during the time the Tournaments ran, it was getting there.

Kin decides it's best to engage carefully, as he's not sure of the beast's speed. "That slime surprised me last time, I don't want to get similarly caught off-guard against something like this!"

With that in mind, Kin brings his greatsword up in a parrying stance, just in case his footwork isn't enough.

"...Slow." That's all Kin said as he lowered his guard. The halfling swordsman cautiously made his way toward the beast, still afraid to approach it just yet. However, he began to realize that he couldn't really avoid melee combat with it. It wasn't his style to do anything but close quarters; he had to get in there eventually. With that thought in mind, he rushed forward with abandon. "I don't know who has the obsession with slimes in this organization, but I'm done with it..."

The halfling moves within a decent range of the beast without getting too close to it, awaiting his chance to strike.

The attacks and constriction from the creature caught Kin by surprise. He groans in pain, realizing he can only live by doing one thing. "I have to retreat." The muttered statement echoed in his dull mind for a moment. How long had it been since Kin had to run backward to recover in a fight? It didn't sit well with him, but his pride wasn't so great that he didn't understand the worth of retreat in battle.

Kin could only hope that his small stature could help him in escaping this nauseating creature's grasp.

Kin stares down the creature in expectation, then digs in his pack to retrieve a potion of red liquid. Quickly, he quaffs the brew, exhaling in satisfaction and dropping the bottle on the ground. Kin grins at the creature's approach. "Perfect." It was within range now, within range of a surprise attack. Though Kin did not enjoy hit-and-run strategies, it was all he could do. "I'm well aware that I can't take another hit like that."

Kin dives in full force with a leaping strike, practically soaring through the air, arcing his blade overhead and into the creature's rotting figure. He follows up with two more strikes, hoping with all he had that this would down the strange beast.

Kin, having gauged his opponent's speed, decides it's best to wait for an opportunity to strike. "I don't think I could make it to it without giving it the advantage. Kin suddenly ducks low in recognition that the creature was within his range. "Now!" The halfling made an immediate lunge forward, his greatsword in a thrusting position as he flew through the air. "Spark!" He shouted, causing the blade of Azure Fury to erupt in dancing electricity. After completing the thrust, he made two more wide swings, aiming at any joints he could find in the creature's shell. Once his attack was through, he eyed the beast, waiting for his chance to once again escape its range. With something that was this tough and bulky, hit and run tactics would be best.
