Title: [Foxy] Transfer Student Orientation Program

[/spoiler]

You were new to Xan Academy. You'd heard about the programs available, how it was focused on actually doing what you wanted to do, rather than learning about it in a book. Perfect for your goals. The prestigious academy was located in the beautiful Celadon City, the hustle and bustle of the population and all of the academy students was a bit overwhelming, and you had retired to your dorm room to get a handle on things and finish unpacking. It was the middle of the afternoon, and you had finished unpacking and setting up your room the way you wanted it. As you were sitting down to relax, you heard a knock on the door. Lightly at first. Tap. Tap. Then more forceful. Thud thud thud. You had heard that there was an orientation program, where a student who had been there a while would come to help you out as you got used to the academy, and suspected that might be who was at your door.

[info]I know you've done Roleplaying for years, but would like to try to keep the transfer threads similar, so here we go.

Unspecified Trainer Exp for your entry post!
You could...
-Talk about the move to your new home. The reasons for  the move if any
-Describing your thoughts and feelings about transferring academies.
-What town were you from? Your previous school? Previous friends?
-What did you hear about academy that made you want to come here for your field of study?

Or skip the above, and simply write about:
-Opening the door
-Trying to see who it is (that little door peephole, or maybe a window)
-Send out your Pokemon to attack whoever is out there
-Or something else ridiculous

The move was rather uneventful, surprisingly. There wasn't much to pack, save for several dozen posters I never had room to pin up before, mostly adverts and splashes for Mew knows what saucy new bleeding edge tech. My parents were ecstatic that I was out of the house. Maybe a little too ecstatic, given the alarming speed at which they had enrolled me here following the conversation at dinner. One imagines they had pre-filled the requisite paperwork and had things already packed to expedite any possible event which would involve me moving out. What unimaginable foresight.

My parents had already signed me up for the core. Boring, and nothing a little white-out couldn't fix. Soon I would be drooling all over the Academy's priceless, godlike servers as I learn to build (Or am finally able to build) a real, working Storage Box for Pokeballs, accessible anywhere around the world. Ah, teleportation.... one of my favorite superpowers, besides shapeshifting. Come to think of it, that explains some things.

*Adds more tape sticking the Alakazam and Ditto posters onto the wall, above my bed*

I walked into the Academy with a backpack full of food, too many books (Even though you can never have too many books), and the Pokedex that was my entire life in the palm of my hands. Also an Eevee on my head. What can I say? Rose helps blow off steam. It's been a few hours, and already I feel like I'm at home again... which felt wrong. The whole reason I left home was to be away from home. Obviously. If I was going to stay here, a few things would have to change...

*Hesitantly starts taking down the most nostalgic of posters, including that Gardevoir pin up I loved so much...*

The door. They're at it again. I guess I should stop treating it like a home invasion, it's a dorm after all. Perhaps they brought chocolate!

*Puts my ear up to the door, listening intently*
"What's the password...!?"

Foxy could hear a muffled response through the door. What sounded like a whisper. "...Hm.. Password huh... Cheese!" The voice was feminine, and sounded as if they were also a student here. There wasn't much else you could hear outside of your door but the person had come to the right place.

"Close enough." I open the door, not the least bit apprehensive. She sounded nice, and maybe we'll end up as friends! "I hope you don't mind the mess. I'm Foxy, nice to meetcha!"

the person behind the door is greeted by an almost adult boy of slightly taller than average height, more if you include his eternal bedhead. He is wearing, oddly enough, something that looks like a kilt and also a fur-lined jacket with a cool looking dragon Pokemon, seemingly of his own design, on the back. His blue eyes seem  full of mirth and a glean of knowledge beyond. He's also got one of those neat graphic tees, this one emblazoned with the slogan "be a badass, every second of the day."

Foxy opens the door to see a girl, a bit older than himself. She was dressed in a light pink blouse, with a white skirt and a floral patterned hat. Her hair hung down to her shoulders, and she had a warm smile on her face. Around her waist there was a camera case, and several Pokeballs. "Hi! You must be Foxy. I'm Lynne, the academy has asked me to help you out with your orientation, since you've just transferred here.  So if you're not busy, there's a few things here on the list of things that we've gotta do to keep the academy happy, and help get you situated. First I'll show you to the cafeteria, I don't know if you've eaten, but I could use a late lunch. Then after that, we'll go to the Academy's store, where we can outfit you with all of the supplies you'll need here. After that, well, we can get to that part when we get there.

Her warm smile was inviting, and she seemed friendly enough. Learning more about the academy you'd be living would be a great opportunity as well.

This... damned blush...!! I thought I'd gotten over it already, but my inescapable nature has rendered me horribly embarrassed, and for no reason in particular. What use is this redness, how self-destructive in form and intent...?! I was standing there like a complete and utter zombie, until Rose whacked me on the head with her paw. She was never one to suffer my idiocy.

"Um... sure, sounds great! I'm absolutely starving..."

There, my gambit was played, albeit rather crudely. Now to see if I was still capable of human interaction after all this time in voluntary solitary confinement.

Lynne giggled, and pointed down the hall. "Shall we be on our way then?" Lynne walked across campus rather gracefully, always aware of her surroundings, and before too long the two of you had arrived at the cafeteria. It was fairly busy, though it was between peak hours. They got their food and sat at a table to eat. Pausing between bites, Lynne decided to tell Foxy the next part of his orientation. "So Foxy, after we go to the store to buy some supplies you might need, we'll be going out to look for a wild Pokemon to catch. Part of orientation is making sure that everyone is able to catch a Pokemon since you never know what you're going to run into during your time here." This was the part of orientation that people always loved, and Lynne was sure Foxy would be the same way.
Title: Re: [Foxy] Transfer Student Orientation Program

Over time, the uneasiness faded. It was a lot easier than I had anticipated, probably because Lynne was so friendly. She led the way through the school and most of the conversation, and on the way to the cafeteria I had already mapped out several of the wings I'd passed and recognized in the handbook. The food was decent. Rose at most of it, as usual. But then...

"You have wild Pokemon here? Like, your own miniature safari zone or something?"

Never one able to conceal my feelings at all, I find myself leaning in, suddenly quite interested.

Well.. there are zones like that too, but that isn't where we'll be going. We have quite a few Wild zones at the Academy, each with a different habitat. There's also wild Pokemon that just live outside of campus along the roads. You just need to look and you can find them." Lynne knew about the Academy Wild Zones, but she actually hadn't been to one quite yet. They were apparently quite popular, but there were a lot of facilities on campus, and between trying everything and working on her photography, Lynne hadn't found the time to go into one quite yet. It was nice however, to see that each new student was passionate about being at the academy.

"So, Foxy, what are you hoping to study here at the Academy?"
Title: Re: [Foxy] Transfer Student Orientation Program
Post by: FoxyPox on February 01, 2016, 03:02:35 PM
Note to self: explore these "Wild Zones."

Scratching my head, racking my brain to remember what exactly I came here for, I start to realize how little I planned things out. And then it hit me.

"Welllll I'm really interested in all kinds of technology. I mean, I play a lot of video games, yeah, but have you ever seen inside a Pokedex? Or even a Pokeball? Maybe I'll build my own one day, I don't know. Or pry open a masterball, duplicate it somehow. To be honest, I only really signed up for most of the classes because they sounded fun, or remotely having to do with that goal. Oh, and art."

I lean to the side, trying to sound cool, but really only enunciating the impulsiveness of my choices. Rose hops off of my head, uninterested, and proceeds to curl up in my lap.
Title: Re: [Foxy] Transfer Student Orientation Program

Well, they do sell kits on campus that allow you to create your own Pokeballs, so you might be able to do that sooner rather than later. As for art, I can't tell you too much about the curriculum here, but I'm sure its held to high standards like the rest of the courses offered at the Academy. Lynne finished her meal and returned the tray to the proper area before coming back. "When you're ready, we can head on over to the Academy's store. There's a lot of stuff around there for you to look at."

"Sure, that sounds like a good plan. The cash I have in my pocket is practically burning a hole through it, begging to be spent."
I took my fourth and final bite of lunch (Rose ate the rest) and returned my tray. Next stop? The store!

"Come on, Rose, we've got to-"
She wasn't on my head. Or my lap. Or anywhere in the immediate vicinity. I did the quick double take you do when you still don't believe what just happened. Yup, still not there. Maybe she's playing hide and seek again - she does that in my room all the time.
"...Oh, fiddlesticks. Lynne, have you seen my Eevee?"

Lynne's sharp eyes spotted the Eevee before it got too far away, exploring under a table. "She went that way! Lynne pointed towards the Eevee and waited for Foxy to fetch her. She then remembered the gift that she was supposed to give each new student. "Oh right, as part of the orientation and ensuring that you are properly equipped to catch a wild Pokemon, the school  starts each student off with some cash to spend at the store, facilitating an easy capture." Lynne handed the boy the money with a smile. "Alright, when you're ready we can head over to the store, feel free to take your time browsing to find what you are looking for."

"Thanks, Lynne. Rose, get back here....!"

I chase after Rose, who leads me under a table, over another, into someone's tray (Sending a gratuitous splattering of mashed potatoes into my face), through the lunch line, across the kitchen, down a hallway, Into a crowd of people who will probably bully me later, past some lockers (Three of which I smacked into, probably denting), and face-first into a sign. It read "Academy Store."

As I lay on the floor in a daze, Rose sat on me.

"Ugh..."

Lynne followed the boy as he chased after his Eevee. It didn't seem to be very well trained. He ended up running into a sign and falling to the ground with a thud, by the time Lynne caught up to him, the Eevee was sitting on his chest, victorious. Lynne offered him a hand, to get up.

"You may want to train your Eevee a little bit, Foxy. At any rate, we should probably get to buying supplies, who knows how long it could take us to flush out one of the wild Pokemon in the area. Feel free to take as long as you need in the store, and ask any questions you might have about merchandise. The store had lots of products available, with Pokeballs and potions and other adventuring items lining the shelves. The staff seemed friendly and willing to help.

"Heh, I guess for the most part, she trains me."

I get up, and put Rose back on my head, where it's quite hard to lose track of her. Then I proceed to meander through the store, trying not to snatch up all the little trinkets along the way. Inevitably, I'd probably end up buying a few action figures I'd never play with. How much were those pokeball toolkit thingamajiggers, anyway...? Oh, plus, Rose probably wants some more of that candy...

A cashier informed Foxy that the Pokeball Toolbox was $500, and that there was not any candy of any sort in stock currently, they then left him to browse the shop as he liked, waiting for him to decide what he would like to purchase.

"No candy, huh? Seems like a rare find these days. I guess I'll buy one of those toolkits...and also this scarf. In case Rose catches a cold."

I plop down one of the fancy toolkits, and what appears to be a roll of colored toilet paper. Rose rolls over on my head, completely uninterested.

After a minute, I start to wonder if there's anything I can buy that would help Rose get some kind of an edge in battle...

FOXY seems to be looking forrrr....:
.Rare Candies (Fat Chance...)
.Any kind of pokemon clothing (No one will know, he has a thing for playing dressup...)
.Technical Machines for later use (Of course, he understands some people can be quite toxic about it)
.Perhaps some leftovers for Rose to snack on...
.That Pokemon Toolkit he's itching to buy
.Any video games. Any at all. Even Flappy Pidgey. Yes, even that.

"Next, we're going to go look for a wild Pokemon! There's a somewhat marshy area near town that it should be easy enough to find something in. Not a lot of people go there, so hopefully some Pokemon went out to play." Lynne pointed to a path and started walking. She was curious how Foxy would do at capturing a Pokemon, everyone had a different approach to battle, so it was interesting to see.

"Whoo, Pokemon!!"

Unable to contain myself, I break into a run along the path. About twenty feet down the path, I skid to a halt.

What a dork, I'm gonna scare all the wild pokemon away...!

From that point on, I practically tiptoed down the path, Rose's pokeball in hand...

The two travel through the marshy areas, the ground started to get softer, squishing beneath your feet as you go. The hustle and bustle of town has slowly faded, being replaced by the sounds of nature. Birds fluttering around and chirping as they fly tree to tree, frogs and other small creatures hopping around. Willows hanging down towards the marsh. A faint splashing in the distance.

I trudge along the path, the canopy degenerating into a shade of darkness that could only be felt. Instinctively clinging onto my flashlight, I couldn't bring myself to flick it on. This was a test of courage. Evil doesn't lurk here, pokemon do. Even if it did, I'd catch it all the same. I walked at a slower pace, inspecting every tree, twig, bush. Not even the dirt beneath my feet was below my notice.  Around me, the world grew silent...

Foxy doesn't recall any specific pokemon that could be living here, but figures that if one is splashing around, it's likely a water type. As he looked in the distance, he saw a small, blue Pokemon splashing about. It didn't seem to notice you from how far away you were.

All pokemon love candy. Or at least they should. It's only right. I held out a box of rainbow colored treats that Rose always liked. As long as I don't do this next to a creepy white van, it should work without a hitch! Right?

I guess it would usually work on smaller pokemon. Imagine trying to feed an Onyx... without it biting off your hand...

"well, if you don't want candy, how about... a playdate?"

I send out Rose. Almost immediately she jumps back, clinging to my shirt, hissing at me. Water isn't her thing, apparently, so back into the ball she goes. Then comes Glitch, who begins splashing around, that cheerful smile eternally across his mouthless face. Maybe they'd be friends. Maybe.

If not, it was high time to see what Glitch could really do...

[info]Pokeball misses. Wooper uses Water Gun! It hits Glitch for 16 damage. Glitch takes 1 Injury. Porygon to act, or pass turn to start a new round.

Damage:
Glitch: 16/59 -sdef
Wooper: 29, -def, -sdef.

Something told me I'd end up bludgeoning Wooper to death with Pokeballs before I'd end up catching it. Still, one more go wouldn't hurt. At least it would be better than letting the little guy bite another Psybeam. Actually, Glitch wasn't looking so hot either. He was sparking. That little squirt gun might have only tickled Glitch, but that didn't mean it wasn't dangerous.

"Glitch, come on back. Let's switch you with Rose."

[info]I switch out Glitch with Rose, and toss another Pokeball. Not sure if I can do it all in one go.

The Pokeball managed to hit Wooper this time, and sucked it inside. There was a struggle, and after a few moments you heard the click of the ball locking. "Good job! You caught him!" Lynne cheered from the sidelines, after offering no advice for the battle. She had to ensure that the new students could take care of themselves.

"Whoo! We did it, we did itttt!"

I started another of those ridiculous victory dances again. Actually, I didn't even know how do dance. Just flailing your arms around and jumping randomly usually does the trick, I guess. Rose danced a little, then jumped onto my head, holding on tightly. That didn't save her from me splashing around, though - inevitably a few drips of swamp muck ruined splotched her fur.

I look up at the Pokeball. My own first Pokemon battle in the... semi-wilderness. Awesome! All I had to do was name the little guy...

...I mean, Girl...

I sat down in the muck and the water and the dirt and began to lose myself in thought. After a minute, I sent out the Wooper. I figured she should have a say in this, too.

"You okay?"

"Make sure to give it a good name!" Lynne was all smiles as the Wooper popped out of its Pokeball. It was a little banged up but seemed chipper enough despite the previous encounter. It turned its head up at Foxy, as if expecting something.

"How do you like the name Flufflewump Cuddlekins?"

I pulled this out of the blue, as all good names should come from. It was received with a well-placed water blast to the face.

"Okay, okay..."

The Wooper blasted me again.

"What about... um... Bloop?"

She was about to drench me, but stopped short. After a second, she started hopping around, Blooping. It was a little adorable, every time she said the word, small jets of water would shoot out of her mouth.

"Okay, it's settled! Bloop it is. Sorry I scared you earlier."

After the naming was complete, Lynne pointed down the path they had come. "Congratulations on catching a Pokemon! We should probably head back to the school now though. We'll have one more task after we get back, but we should visit the Pokemon center first and get your Pokemon back in their best shape." The two head back through the marshes towards the academy. It was an uneventful trip without any problems, and before they knew it, the two of them were in the Pokemon center.

The attendants at the Pokemon center saw Lynne and Foxy enter, and shortly after, Foxy's Pokemon were tended to. "So, Foxy for the last part of your orientation, you have to battle another trainer. We have various arenas on campus for this purpose, so hopefully you're up for it!" Lynne always liked to see the reaction to a Pokemon battle, it could say a lot about someone's character.
Title: Re: [Foxy] Transfer Student Orientation Program
Post by: FoxyPox on February 18, 2016, 02:47:50 PM
I flashed Lynne a crafty grin. That was just the thing to pique my interest.

Pokemon battles? You mean, against other students...?

I figured trainer battles would be a little more difficult, but all the more rewarding. Sure, I couldn't catch their pokemon, but a battle like that would be perfect for learning teamwork and strategy. And if my Pokemon and I got even stronger...

The monolith of a ladder loomed in front of me, the Elite Four at the very top. Between me and them lay an infinite array of forces poised to strike me down. The first rung lay within my reach.

"And who exactly would I be fighting?"

Title: Re: [Foxy] Transfer Student Orientation Program
Post by: Oath on February 18, 2016, 10:52:31 PM
"That depends on who is around when we get to the arena, if there isn't a suitable trainer around, then you will be battling me, of course." Lynne smiled and pointed into the distance. "The arenas can be found over there, so we might as well check if anyone is there!" She left the Pokemon center after Foxy's Pokemon were returned, and briskly walked towards the arenas.

I followed shortly behind, only beginning to appreciate the scope of the curriculum here. Slowly I begun to let my mind wander to the other students. They were no longer simply my peers... they were enemy combatants, and most with a significant head start. Of course, I wasn't going to let that faze me. I took a deep breath and vowed to be the badass I always wanted to be, like it said on my shirt.

"Alright, let me at 'em! Who's first!?"

Of course, my voice had to crack about halfway through...
Title: Re: [Foxy] Transfer Student Orientation Program
Post by: Oath on February 19, 2016, 11:23:32 PM
The arena seemed to be rather sparse as the two got there, without any competition in sight, Lynne turned to Foxy. "Guess you're stuck battling me. We'll each use three Pokemon. Since that is how many you have. If you take out three of mine, you're the winner. Lynne set aside all but three of her Pokeballs, and proceeded to one side of the arena. "Ready when you are, Foxy!"

A half-vicious, half-ecstatic streak shot across Rose's countenance. Flashing the Combee a crafty (and admittedly hubris-laden) grin, she charged once more. She was only playing, after all. And yet... no wonder she got herself banned from the daycare.

"Remember to play nice, Rose...!"

Either she was too far away to hear, or too riled up to notice. She attacked again at full strength. Of course, it couldn't last. Her fervor was admirable but ultimately draining in the long run. I'd have to force her to pull back before long, I figured.

In the time and effort it would take to cull the stem from its roots, Rose dropped. A vast, gluttonous chasm yawned itself into existence before her, meticulously tugging on that ephemeral, gossamer chain called life itself. She drifted ever further past the event horizon, cast with a haunting, almost penitent pallor of lucidity. As if she had, in that moment, grasped a long-forgotten prayer in her tiny paws and for the first time in her life, understood. Her snout glittered with teardrops from a stuffed candle. She's a strong girl with a strong heart. She'll be fine. Her pride may not be intact, but she'll pull through.

I don't know which one of us hurt worse. Both of us were helpless. The one thing that pounded through my mind was the eventual apology I had to make. To Rose, and to Victoria. I felt like an irresponsible parent, who almost let his child drown.

...Of course, we all had a thing for being melodramatic. It was just a silly little Pokemon battle, after all. Nothing too serious. Heh. Victoria would probably just tell me to lighten up... and take better care of her pokemon.

I threw Rose a lifeline. The Pokeball returned to my hand, and I felt its weight. The time was high noon. I tossed out another tribute ~ Bloop, oblivious and waiting for my command. But to me, it would never be quite the same.

"Hrm..... nothing, really. Not unless the science wing we passed earlier was working on a Snag Machine."

My eyes had a glint just shy of sinister. Of course, I wasn't actually going to use one if I got it. Unless... someone really deserved it. Theft was definitely crossing a line, but one must hold in reverence one of the most influential, famous, technologically stimulating pieces of hardware a nerd could drool over for years~ a SNAG MACHINE. I had a small replica in my old room, a wearable foam construction in my closet, and a sketchbook full of possible modifications. To meet the inventor was one of my most farfetch'd and most precious of dreams. To hold a real one in my hands was just short of dying from a heart attack.

"Or... there a playground anywhere? I don't want Rose to hold any grudges. Should find a place to sort out any differences. It'd be fun!"
