Title: [Feu] Assistance
Post by: Throndir on July 11, 2017, 12:37:26 PM
QuoteFeu only. Introductory/warm up roleplay and familiarization.

You found yourself on the eastern part of the kingdom, making your way to one of the towns primarily occupied by humans. Your particular destination was a small village. Not quite as far as the eastern settlement of Powderkeg, still further from the town of Halsen, but still very much within the borders of the nation and the untamed lands between Korinthia and Lorule. The village had requested for aid, and you had been contacted, being the closest to the small village at the time, and had promptly started making your way to it.

There wasn't much they they had given you. Only that they suspected monsters to be in thicker concentrations than prior, and wanted aid in training their militia to handle their weapons better, or even help them with preparations for their town. You weren't entirely sure how much you can do to help the militia themselves, but you realized that perhaps more of your fellow guild members would arrive anyways.

It was there, further in the distance that you saw the village. It was the small village of Deller's Rock, but what alerted you the most was a large amount of smoke coming form the village in the distance.

As I was on my way to the town, a big mushroom of smoke coming from Deller's Rock caught my eye. I knew I have a destination set in my mind, but my curiosity got the best of me. I want to go and find out what has caused this big amount of smoke. I couldn't let it go.

I need to get there and find out what's happening. I have all my stuff inside my backpack, but I thought in case I should need it, I should have it readily available to me, so I took the bundle of rope out from my bag and now have it in hand. I changed course and headed out to this nearby village instead. I continued walking closer to it, but now heightening my senses for anything that might befall me.

As you started walking towards the village, it was then that you notice tracks coming from the forest, off the road, merging into the road itself. The ground was flattened, with lots of the grasses and shrubbery that looked to be evidently stepped on. You couldn't quite tell how many had gone through however.

I slowly approached the tracks to see how they look, their shape, hoping to kind of have even an inkling of who or what made them. The thought of what kind of creature did them made me kind of uneasy, but I am still set on finding out what had caused the smoke in that village, so I continued walking towards it while still on alert mode.

Looking at the various tracks, you realize that it was many creatures that had walked through here. Or rather, stormed through. The way the foliage was trampled on, and the fact that hardly any space was left untouched, made you think that a lot of sets of feet had gone by. From the looks of it as well, it looked like they were in a rush.

Making your way closer to the village, the cause of the smoke was clear. There was fire burning through most of the buildings, and you seem to see what look to be bodies strewn across the road. The various windmills of the farming village were blaze, along with the rest of the structures that you were able to see. Save for the blazing fires, and wind that caused them to dance, there wasn't anything else that moved. You were still around 200 ft. away from the town, and you had to get closer to figure anything else out.

Seeing the big picture, I wondered if there were still any creature alive in this hell-like sight. As I don't see anything moving nor hear any weird sound from anywhere, save for the crackling of the fire burning the place down, I decided to move closer to the village. I squinted and looked around for anything near me where I can hide behind and saw a hedge of bushes 150 meters from the village, before the windmills. I headed out for it and hid behind it, so I can better examine the area. From this vantage point, I can see more details than from where I was.

The road was strewn with various corpses. Old men, women, mothers, fathers, each of them had weapons of some sort, primarily spears, and pitchforks. There was blood on their bodies, and their clothes were stained red. Unless you examine the bodies yourself however, you're not sure of how long since they died, nor were you certain on their exact cause of death. Almost all of the buildings were in a blaze, with the remaining few that weren't, would have soon started catching on fire as well. Aside from that, many of the dry shrubbery and stacks of hay had caught fire as well, only adding to the fuel.

You barely managed to hear it. But even with the roaring of the flames from the buildings before you. You heard what sounded like the cries of a child, coming from the building directly across you. One problem however; the building was on fire.

As I was walking along the road, the hair on my body stood on their ends. How terrible the tragedy that has befallen this village! I felt so bad for each and every one of the corpses laying on the roads. And then as I was indulging in the melancholy, I heard it. A child's cries. It was faint, but I kept walking, and as I did, the sound became louder. I'm getting nearer to where it's from. It was coming from that building in front of me. I became suddenly concerned.

The reason I carried on up till this point is because of hopes of finding a survivor, and now there is one. But how do I get in and out of there with that child safely? The monstrous fire was blazing and slowly engulfing the building. I changed myself to a normal human size. The enormity of the building and its current situation poses a real threat if I go into it in my real size.

Then, figuring out I should have some protection before I enter the building, I took out the blanket in my bag and wrapped it around myself. Now I needed it to get the blanket wet, so I cast the Create Water spell on myself twice for the blanket to be wet enough to protect me. After which, I began to head for the building's main entrance.

[okay]Treating your attempts to fire protection as a Fire Resistance of 2.[/okay]Wrapping yourself up in the wet and soaking blanket, and likewise, using it to block any of the smoke. You began dashing into the burning building. The fires were intense, and you felt keenly the pain of heat, but your preparations helped prevent it to be worse.

[error]Feu takes 1 fire damage.[/error]The cries got louder and louder. As you bend the corner from the hallway, you see where it was coming from. There was a child, a young girl, with a woman on top of her. There was blood streaked throughout the child's face and clothes, and so too was the woman you presumed to be her mother. You weren't sure of the status of the woman, but at the very least, she laid still even as the child continued to wail.

The little girl began to cough then as well, and the fires behind you continued to creep up even closer.

I quickly got to the woman on top of her and checked for any signs of life, but unfortunately she's been dead for a little while. I recognize that I should move fast and get the girl and myself out of this place immediately. This kind of situation needs fast decision-making. The fires are getting more aggressive and my blanket immediately started to dry, so I created water again to wet myself and pulled the girl with me inside the blanket.

As you began to near her, the little girl instead started backing away from you.

"G-go away!" She coughed a few more times as the smoke started to thicken. Her eyes were fearful as she looked upon you.

As you began to try to get out of the way however, you weren't fast enough, and the flaming debris managed to scrape against your arm. The debris had some sharped edges, and it had torn through the wet blanket you had around you, and also drawing some blood.

I saw the blood well up from where the flaming debris scraped against my arm, and it sent a searing pain through my nerves. But my attention was immediately drawn to the girl when she started coughing more again. We have to get out of here! I pulled the girl near me, and started dashing to the entrance where I came from.

The little girl complained at first, and like before was almost fearful as you came near. But you quickly grabbed her and managed to get her to calm down. Behind you however, was the raging fires, it has grown in the few moments since you had first come in. You lead the way, taking the brunt of the fire damage, however, your blanket still prevented some of it. Behind you followed the girl as you held tight on to her arm, the flames bit at her as well, though not nearly as bad. The journey back towards the exit felt like an eternity, walking through the hallway was a hellscape, as everywhere around you were flames and the scorching heat.

[error]Feu takes 4 fire damage.
Girl takes 1 fire damage.
[/error]The fires were painful, and though you had the blanket on you, the flames and raw heat bit into anything it could. But finally, the both of you made it. Coming out of the flames, you knew you had suffered some burns.

Once outside the little girl continued to cry. There was soot and ash on her face, and you can tell that some parts of her skin was raw and burned as well, but at least she was alive.

I guided her farther from the building till we cannot feel too much heat in the air anymore. Then seeing both her and I have burns from escaping the fires, I took out the healing potion from my bag and let her drink some to heal her burns. I drank a considerable amount from the potion bottle as well. It should take effect in a little while. Mine are worse, but the potion should act as a first aid.

You had given the little girl the potion to drink, however, she didn't take it. She had briefly looked at it suspiciously, but she buried her face into your side again, and started sobbing. Both from the burn pains on her, as well as what she had just experienced.

You yourself drunk your own option, and immediately you felt your wounds start to heal and close up. There was still a slight pain, but most of it was healed.

This girl is sure stubborn, no doubt. "Your burns would not heal faster if we don't do something about it," I told her as she continued sobbing and clutching my clothes. I consoled her to calm her a bit.

I decided to cast the Cure Light Wounds spell on her, so she cannot refuse anymore. "It would not hurt you," I told her calmly. Her burns started healing themselves immediately after, but she is still quite shocked and continued sobbing.

You cast your spell, and as you touched the little girl, the healing glow spread throughout her body, closing and mending the few burns that she had. The little girl immediately felt the relief however, and only looked towards you with a sort of amazement. Though tempered still, as her eyes were still red and puffy.

The houses around you still burned brightly, and though you weren't in immediate danger, corpses still littered around the street. It seemed like whoever, or whatever did this, carved a swath of destruction through the village of Deller's Rock.

In the distance, you were barely able to make it out, but you did see it. It was two goblins throwing what looked to be torches or some other flammable item on the buildings. They haven't noticed you yet at all. Most of their attention was focused on their current task after all. The string of dead bodies form where you stood to the goblins seemed to go on. Further on ahead, it was then that you realize that some of the bodies too were those of the goblinkind.

Behind you, you heard one of the buildings collapse on itself, as the fires finally weakened the support structures of the building.
Title: Re: [Feu] Assistance
Post by: kitkat27 on July 18, 2017, 12:30:01 PM
It's a relief to know we are far enough from the building to be safe. I pulled the girl near me so that she was facing away from the building as it viciously crumbled down on its foundations. Looking ahead, I wondered what those goblins throwing flammables on the buildings had to with everything and what the story behind it is. I just saw them. They haven't noticed us yet, and I hope they won't. Goblins are mischievous creatures. I can only wonder what they would do if they did.

In the meantime, I should talk to the girl I just rescued and find out more about who she is and what happened to this village. So, I looked for a place where we can be comfortable and out of sight of anyone who might see us. Squinting in the distance around the vicinity, I did find a row of hedges tall enough to hide behind several feet from where we are. We should be careful not to be seen by the goblins on our way there.

Post by: Throndir on July 18, 2017, 01:07:58 PM
The only quiet place to go to was further out of the village. You started to backtrack quietly with the little girl, making your way out of the road, away from the village. There were places to get out of sight from the goblins by going behind the burning buildings. However, most of he shrubbery and foliage of the town have already caught on fire, so there wasn't much that can be used here that was safe to sit in. Further out of the village were trees however, and you knew those had not yet caught fire.

QuoteClarification needed, any row of hedges in the burning village is likely already on fire, and likewise burning away or mostly burned away,
would need clarification on where you're going next.
Title: Re: [Feu] Assistance
Post by: kitkat27 on July 20, 2017, 12:14:54 PM
I helped the girl walk as we were heading out further away from the village. She was still in bad shape and pretty shocked state. If we stayed any more near the burning building, we still might be endangered plus the fact that there are goblins around who might see us, who we're not sure if they're friends or foes. I realized most of the nearby hedges and foliage have caught fire themselves, so more reason for us to be as far as we possibly can away from here.

I looked to the direction opposite the building where the goblins cannot see us and started heading for it, to a forest where the trees are tall and thriving that will give us a good hideout place. "Trust me on this, all right? We have to move as quiet as we can getting out of here," I told the girl.

Title: Re: [Feu] Assistance
Post by: Throndir on July 20, 2017, 01:10:13 PM
You make your way away out towards the forests, trying to quietly move as fast as possible away from the area, going the opposite direction from where you had seen the goblins. You managed to get away easily. The goblins were still far away after all, and the burning fires around you and the resulting noise that came from it was enough to mask both yours and the little girl's escape.

As you moved away from the fires, going into the neighboring forest, you started noticing evident tracks. Not the same ones that you had seen earlier, but more akin to a single or handful of people. It was then that you saw what looked to be an old man propped against a tree, his leg profusely bleeding. It was bandaged tight with his own ripped clothes, and the man breathed raggedly. He was still conscious however, that you can tell.

Beside him looked to be a dead corpse of a goblin, still relatively fresh.

QuoteIf you plan to sneak up on him, roll stealth, or if not, and you want to make your presence known, just get his attention.

I went around the tree to avoid being noticed by the man. There are a lot of things running through my head, a lot of questions still unanswered. I didn't know where to go yet, only that I should not be seen by any creature we might encounter. Even the girl I am with I am starting to have doubts about as she hasn't told me anything yet and just kept sobbing.
