Title: Arc 1 Clark Solo: New Town Old Tropes
Post by: Mysticsage on July 06, 2017, 04:16:21 PM
The summer before school started depending on Clark's cruelly long because there was nothing to do and he was dying of bordem, or it was cruelly short as the school year approached and this meant that he would be chained to small town life even longer. What worse is the school cut into his summer a few weeks early for a school field trip for sophmores to New York and the Met. Being pushed by his grandparents to go since they knew he would rather the break. Wether this glimpse into his old life was a moment of relief or little more then an empty bottle to a man dying of thirst only time will tell. Being one of the few transfer studensts in the school he stood out like a sore thumb as people both watched his every move and yet avoided him like the plauge. This was a glimpse into his new school life one of the many sideshows that both fascinated and frieghtened small town life. Half uttered whispers of his family life occassionally metting his ears.

It did not matter that the heat that summer across the entire Northeast was enough to boil a rattlesnake's blood. So the entire bus was more then happy to get out of the oven that was the bus and museum. The only problem is that everything but the emergency exhibit cooling was working there as well under the open glass roofs. So the tour that the school had planned was playing out like a walk through hell. One of the few exhibits that did have cool air was a new babylonian exhibits. Looking to get out of this sweat pit and away from the eyes and whispers Clark doubled back following a trail of a handful of other students to the exhibit. The hall was dark with all kinds of pieces from the mundain shards of clay to metal works depicting dieties in the like. Memories of his parents fluided his senses then as he tried to push the phantoms down and lose himself in the history. They had spoken about an exhibit in the near future before they died at the Met. Sure enough he saw his parents name on one or two of the small golden plaques by key pieces

At the center of the exhibit was a lecturn with an ancient book the class had walked through the hall affording Clark only a glimpse but now freshly emptied he could see the tome in totallity. However the group of students seemed to huddled around the High Priest book as well. However something seemed off. The book had been protected by a heavy glass case and yet now it seemed missing, shattered to bits on the ground. Some one had broken the case and managed to not raise an alarm whats more a strange smell filled the air as if some one had lit prayer insence. A candle burning dark black dripping wax on its pages seemed to be the topic of conversation. Clark was about to say something when all of the sudden the room began to spin and sway. The other students seemed to be feeling it too because one after another everyone in the room seemed to faulter. The candle fell then seeting the book and the room ablaze with dark purple fire. Clark being closest to the door attempts to turn to call for help but a light from the room suddenly blinds him and then in the dark void between his eyes and his lids he sees a robbed woman sitting at a table she says something to the group and then is gone.

When Clark wakes up again there is no fire or yelling adults, but instead you are back on the bus again sitting as he had been in the back the trip finished with no major problems. Listening to the whispers of the other students there wasno mention of the fire or what went on in the room and due to the size of the group no one who had been in that room with you or saw that strange robed woman was riding with you. Everyone around you seemed to have no idea of a fire when you asked several even claiming that you followed the tour the entire time even showing a class photo with you in it that you have no memory of taking. Not wanting to add even more to your reputation you decide to drop the whole thing for the time being. However, almost every night since that cloaked woman or what went on in that museum has haunted your dreams. Not to meantion the strange energy that has left you on edge that seems to hang around town ever since. As questions of who that woman was and what could have happened that day fill your waking hours.

However, no answers have been forth coming and now it is the first day of school at Washington High

August 21st
The heat had yet to let up from the summer, but the trip was otherwise uneventful the glances and whispers were ever present but not overly intrusive. Going to his locker before homeroom Clark would be able to sense many giggles and sneers but looking up he would be able to make eye contact. Eventually, he is able to make his way into his home room.

The teacher enters the classroom slowly carrying a hand full of papers. Some students groan slightly after seeing who it is. Mr. Smith one of the school's history teachers. He has gained a reputation for his dry humor and general edge that has made him obviously popular amongst some of the female students and hated by the male students. He threw himself slightly disheveled and yawning into the chair behind his desk.

"Listen up guys, there is an announcement I'm supposed to read you."

Dear students,

Welcome to a brand new year at Washington high. We the facility and parents cannot wait to see what you make of yourselves this year. We hope to provide an environment for personal growth and achievement that will pave a path to your future selves. To further this endeavor we are instituting a new mandatory extracurricular program that is to come in effect immediately. Students will be required to join and participate in a maximum of two clubs. The decision on what clubs to join must be made within the first few days or your homeroom teacher shall do it in your stead. Please keep in mind that due to the number of students that must be serviced that all choices once men are final and cannot be changed under any circumstances. We hope this change will make the year a memorable one.

All the best in the New Year!
   PTA and The Principle-

"I was told to tell you that you can sign up at the notice board right outside the classroom and that homeroom will be extended for the first period so that you all can have a look."

Slowly he yawned as he finished, "So there you have it I would get thinking if I were you guys." Some people broke into groups others still directly left the classroom looking to get their spots quickly. Others still seemed not to have been paying attention at all sleeping or holding back as if out of nervousness. You notice a group of girls in the front of the classroom giggling and staring in your seat at the back one seemingly pushed in your direction before the whole pack escapes out into the hall. They were treating you like some kind of animal at the zoo placing bets on who was going to put their hand in the lion's cage.

"Ignore them, the girls in this town go crazy when there is a new boy who looks even reasonably human. They don't mean any harm." A girl had approached when Clark were not looking maybe 5'5 looking as if a strong wind might blow her over. Her face was taken up by thick oval frames highlighting her pale eyes. Her ink black hair was cut short and braided with her bangs hanging in a short fringe. Yet this seeming ghost of a girl stood before clark and seemed to be looking past him to his soul. "My name's Iris, Iris Favor. Your the nre transfer student right?" For once someone seemed not to recognize the new kid.

Clark froze for a second at the girls' approach, unsure at what the intent was behind the conversation.  He didn't think anyone would approach him after that last fight.  His pause suddenly feeling too long when he got around to responding. "Um, yes, I did transfer in.  What do you want?"  He really did not want to deal with this right now.  He looked over to the door, wondering about those clubs.  He started to angle himself towards the door hoping to speed up the conversation.

"Oh, nothing much your just new, and I was taught it's rude to gawk." She said matter-of-factly without seeming to care or notice Clark's discomfort. "It can be lonely in small towns I know from experience, so feel free if you get lost or lonely feel free to ask for help I have nothing better to do regardless." With that, she dug a dime store novel out of one of her jean pockets and lost herself in it before simply turning to leave seemingly done with her business not bothering with a response. You do notice however even as she leaves the classroom and into the hall, people are either moving things out of her way or completely dodging her due to what seemed more than out of kindness.

Clark watched the girl walk away wondering to himself: What was that about and what kind of a name is Favor?  Noting the movements of the other students he continued his train of thoughts with For the bookish sort she sure seems to get some treatment.  Hopeflly I didn't just make trouble for later.  Letting out a sigh at the thought of having to deal with the student body politics he made his way for the hallway to take a look at the sign up sheets with the hopes that any good clubs won't already be full by the time he got there after this minor delay.

As Clark makes it out into the hall it appears as if he was right to be afraid, as the entire school seemed to be out in the halls at once not something that this aging high school can handle well. It was as if the entire sophomore class, or at least as many as could fit outside the classrooms when no one was moving like this. It seems that that the other teachers had simply let the flood water loose without any kind of system in place to keep people from being crowded out.  It felt thick like the crowds of New Dehli in one of the markets thick with elbows and the smell of sweat and adrenaline as  teenaged bodies slam together as the jockeyed for position.

Clark is currently at the back of the pack, and he would be able to make it to the front otherwise it would require some serious work to make it to the front.

The moving was difficult and required a fair amount of elbowing and pushing to slip through the undulating mass of teenage bodies. Eventually, after a minute or so Clark manages his way to the front of the line. The list was a mess people's names were scrawled hastily and at times incompletely. However, there seemed to be more than enough slots open in any of the clubs. Clark remembers that he has to decide on two

Clark finally pushed his way to the front of the crowd  and looked over the club sign-up sheets to see what was on offer.  Naturalist club... Might be a good way to get out of here every now and then.  He took one of the hanging pens and wrote his name down.  Tapping his chin with the end of the pen he looked over the other sign-up sheets.  Definitely don't want to join one of those student government clubs... or sports.  He continued to scan the pages until a relatively unpopulated list caught his eye.  Hmmm...  Not many people in this club, and it seems like it would be quiet.  Seems like a safe enough choice.  Taking the pen he signed up for his second club: Puzzle Club.  His mission accomplished, Clark slid his way out of the throng of students to try and make his way back to the classroom, pondering what he will do with the rest of the free period.

Little did Clark know how little of his free period he would actually be able to use as he got grabbed by the shoulder and forced to make an about face. A teenaged boy was grabbing him by the shoulder before he let him go, who stood a half a head taller and a good bit wider than Clark. His freckles, pale green eyes and fiery red hair made him the poster child for Irish decent.

He was obviously upset about something as his cheeks were flushed pink and he was slightly winded from having to push through the masses of people. The calls of the crowd for club openings must have drowned out his approach. He was flanked by what Clark could only assume to be friends of his as they watched a few feet away blocking you two off from the crowd. at this close you can tell that he is wearing a school made Undershirt for some team at the school beneath his t-shirt with the name Adams embroidered just high enough for you to see.

"Hey New Kid," He huffed his voice tight but not really threatening "You're that big world traveling Hot Shot yeah who has been causing fights yeah?" The question more an accusation than anything else. "I don't care what you do with your own life but don't go getting chummy with Iris Favor she has a weak constitution and cannot be getting drug into your shit." Which beyond the obvious intent his sudden outburst was made even more ironic by the fact that he fit the role of the troublemaker stereotype then you did with how he held himself and his general disorganized lock that made him look like he was trying for grunge and falling somewhere between jock and lumberjack with an open flannel shirt and torn weathered jeans and weathered boots.

"Otherwise you and I are going to have some serious problems you get me Indiana?" He unconsciously puffed his chest to cement his meaning.

Clark let out a sigh.  "Look... Mate... I don't get what is going on here but I don't know Iris.  I just met her today and didn't do anything to her."  Flicking his hand across his shoulder where his new aquaintance had grabbed him he continued.  "That said, I think that Miss Favor can get by on her own just fine there Ginger Snap.  So how about we just chill and stay out of each other's way."  He looked at the other two members of the crew, trying to see if they were there to fight or just along for show.

These guys were harder to read than you first expected the boy in front of you was large and imposing and feeling as if he was getting larger by the second. This close Clark could now tell that he stood a full head taller than him, but then his opponent had yet to move.  This Adams was obviously impassioned by more than just concern, but identifying what exactly he was so distraught over was hard to identify. He was by far the most flush, but no one seems to be moving to accelerate the confrontation at this moment, and no one from the surrounding masses seemed to take notice or care to intervene.

At Clark's words Adams clenches a fist but his friend puts a hand on his shoulder which seems to snap him out of his anger long enough to make him take a step back and give you space to breathe. "Your Reputation precedes you knowing her luck and her oblivious nature she thinks you're some side character in one of her stories. She has no concept of her own safty so its up to those around her to keep her from larger problems. "You get me? I'll lay off you if you keep the trail of angst and problems to yourself otherwise we'll be having problems instead."

Clark puts his hands up in surrender.  "Okay, okay, geeze... Stay away from Favor.  I heard you the first time .  Wasn't planning on it before and not planning on it now.  So can we please just get on with our lives?  You've got to have something better to do than greet the new kid."  Taking a step back to put a little bit of distance from Adams and his crew, Clark continues to keep his hands up.  "So can I go now?"

His frieds after hearing  Clark's response and the boy Adam's slowly cooling his head he simply nodded. "Agreed, Class will be getting started soon anyway." With that he left into the masses as quickly as he and his group appeared. Though the whole event seems to have flustered them because none of them went to sign up for clubs. It was good luck too since the bell for homeroom was going to ring in a few minutes not nearly enough time for everyone to sign up. Heading back into class now able to breath you were able to go back to your desk and relax for a moment before class began.

You have four classes before you have a chance to have a break and lunch time closed to mid day. As first days go its slow as usual the same cliched introductions are made and the same basic rules and materials covered. Clark has plenty of opportunities to do his own thing as he sits often in the back of the classroom and is generally left alone. Even skip third period entirely if he so chooses. However History with his homeroom teacher is first thing and as a result skipping him without calling out sick will be noticeably difficult. It is also notable how cramped these classrooms are despite their size. This high school looks like it was built back in the fifties with narrow halls and slim work spaces. The lack of central air and 40 kids on average in a class made it like a sweat box by the time the first lessons are wrapped up not that many of the other spces besides the gym or the cafeteria are much better. Obviously what little tax money the area was getting it was not going to the school.

One thing you do notice regardless of in or out of class is that the air of the entire school is on edge like the few days you spent in Egypt with your parents before hidden agendas forced you to be sent home stateside before them. Whatever was going on both the teachers and students seemed flustered. You even saw one or two students stand up out of nowhere when called upon to answer a question through the day before realizing how odd it was afterwards and flushing with embarrassment. Several other behind the scene changes could be felt but it was difficult to tell what they were without looking more closely.

Clark zones out by staring out at the cloudless sky as classtime passes, perking up at the students' behavior.  Something seemed familiar in the way they were acting.  He wracked his brain trying to remember what was nagging at him.  The frustration of the nagging feeling compunding with his boredom mounts and when third period comes around he tries sneaking out of the classroom in the bustle between periods, seeking to get outside for some fresher air than the stagnant atmosphere of the classroom.

Clark exits from his third-period class right after role call without much issue, mumbling something about needing the bathroom as he went. From watching how frantic all the teachers were he doubted that anyone would even take a second glance at an empty chair for the period and the art teacher had to demo a lesson as well. The stress the teachers were under was even more obvious to him than the other classmates due to his interactions in open air markets and less than savory auction houses. The teachers were sweating something, sweating something bad, and trying their best to cover for it.

All of them were coming with an identical ipad that they set to the side in addition to the papers and lesson plans that would be usual for the first days of class an expense that seems off for a school like this. His first two classes the teachers refrenced the tablet when they thought no one was looking or when they seemed to lose their train of thought. But if one was not looking for the oddity one would have simply thought the school was trying to keep better records and catch up with the times. Which from the general care of the school it was obvious they lacked the funds for that sort of thing.

Speaking of the school this free time gave you the space to gain a basic understanding of the school. It was obviously a building out of time the kind of school you would have expected was from some kind of cutting edge of public works back in the 60's. Warn from years of constaint weather and lack of protection from the forest and feilds that surrounded it. The building was two stories in that narrow and crampt way that was meant for a more populated city center then out in boonies.

The Gym, Cafeteria, and Lab rooms and a few teacher offices (closets) were on the first floor along with a handfull of class rooms. On the second floor were things like the nurse's office art rooms and home ec class along with the rest of the class rooms. Outside they had a cleared and fenced patched in the back mostly surrounded by wood that could be used for whatever countined for sports practice at this school. As you exit the art room you can hear people calling outside through the closed windows but the halls are otherwise dead helping with the heat but not by much.

Other then going outside, hiding in the bathroom, pretending to be sick at the nurse's office, or sticking out in the library was the best options outside of just roaming the halls. If anyone passes you by they don't give you a second glance the school has done away with things like hall passes expecting you to be responsible in general. Though your reputation may come to reflect repeated skipping if you are not careful resulting in someone calling home.  It was then that you remember that have access to things like a map and a basic school email and a directory through the comically bad school website. The only problem being that a large portion of the school was in a dead zone due to it being in the county and the password was on the back of your student id.

Clark gets outside and takes a stroll along the edge of the woods, trying to clear his head with the outside air.  He into the woods, wondering how far they reach and what kinds of local animals dwell there.  Rememering that he technically was suppoesd to be in class, he moved a little bit into the woods, just enought to keep a line of trees between himself and the school so that if someone looked out the window he would not be immediately visible as a stark contrast with the treeline as well as to hopefully gain some shelter from the sun and heat.  He continues to make the circuit until he either finishes circling the school grounds or he runs out of time.

Clark moves through the surprisingly thick woods at the edge of the campus grounds that acted as a kind of natural fence of sorts. This Appalachian landscape rolled in and out of valleys in this entire region leaving long strips of forest and once fertile soil that was nowadays barren due to farming and mining over the decades. Most likely due to the school being public a sizable portion of this land seemed untouched at least at first glance. There were a few game trails and paths weaving in and out but it appeared for all purposes the school left these woods generally alone to do as it pleased only barely managing a barrier in the process. If these woods had ever been used for anything in the town it was obviously long out of service. The woods themselves after that first line of trees is much thicker and harder to traverse, however.

The thick underbrush makes it hard to move as he attempts to continue his circuit. In the process, he has passed by a group of boys passing a cigarette in a dark corner where they think they will not be noticed, A gym class during laps on what patch of turf was considered a lawn for this school, and a girl in glasses trying to wipe away tears hoping that no one noticed her tears trying the best to gather themselves. All told it seems like the usual high school life but the energy around the entire place was like a middle east dig. Even more so with this distance from the building something was roiling in those halls that made the hair on his neck stand on end.

As Clark keeps walking making sure that he is not seen from the treeline does not notice right away as his foot gets caught on an upturned tree root. Pitching forward in the process arms wheeling for anything to grasp he ends up spinning and landing ass first look at the tree top. In the half seconds that felt like minutes, it registered that this was a rather large tree perhaps one of the largest in the tree line meaning that when he hits his head he just might not feel that pain afterward. As the adrenaline pumped and his heart caught in his throat stopping him from yelling out time caught back up and he fell without a way to catch himself. However, instead of hitting solid ground or tree he hit something soft and cottony that had been obscured by the brush.

"Heyyy- what's the deal I'm up I'm up teach~ no need to slam those books down like that."
groaned this air bag turned teenaged boy around your age, wearily rubbing his eyes coming out of a peaceful snooze away from prying eyes. He was using a worn cowhide bomber jacket as a blanket this giving you the most of the protection. As he finally came further out of sleep a look of realization. "Wait a second, you aren't Mr Micheals."

Clark's response flies from hiw mouth before he has a chance to think it through.  "And you aren't a well endowed girl ready to make out with me.  I guess we both have to live with disappointment."  Clark got to his feet and shrugged off the daze from the fall.  "So who are you, the grand druid of the class ditchers?"  Clark asked as he looked around to see if there might be anyone else nearby.  Peering into the woods before looking over his shoulder back towards the school in case a teacher was comming his way.

Scanning the horizon you don't manage to see any teacher's coming as the boy you landed on stood and began to stretch. He looked about your age now that you've had a good look at him with messy brown hair and bright blue eyes complementing his smirk. He had that slight tan of someone who even at his age was used to working outside with worn jeans and muddy sneakers. "I don't know anything about any arch-druid. The name is Owen, Owen Law. I'm a member of the Gardening Club." He added that last bit almost automatically.

Noticing your glances back at the school as he brushed some detritus with a free hand from his jacket due to your fall he added. "If you are worried about teachers most have classes around this time. The school doesn't have enough resources to let many teachers have a rotating schedule and those that around have a list of usual suspects they are keeping an eye on." Looking you up and down this time for real he continues. "You don't seem like the type to be skipping classes, so what's got you stumbling into my fair weather napping spot? I don't recognize your face." He rubs a small bandage across the bridge of his nose that you swear was not there before when you glance back at him a second time.

"I'm new.  Just getting out of the classrooms.  Too stuffy inside for my tastes...  Just what is the type to skip class by the way?  You're not one of those other kids hanging out to catch a smoke and there are places inside to sleep at.  So why are you out here?"  Clark waved one of his hands in the air, gesturing to edges of the small clearing.  "What's your story?"  Clark took a seat on one of the large tree roots and crossed his arms.  Leaning back for some comfort with his legs stretched out and crossed, he settles in a bit for comfort.  "Not your spot by the way, just another piece of woods."  Clark looks up to the tree canopy and watches the sunlight filter through.

"Ah, that explains why I didn't know your face." He said nodding to himself, "I'll make sure to remember it since I'm horrible with names." Following your gaze from before he looked at the back of the school building before continuing with that same smirk. "This area is dying on the vine like grapes ever since my grandad was a kid. It makes people restless when they have nothing to do, like a fox who stumbles into a farm. You don't seem to have that sense about you. I've seen plenty of the class either trying to kill themselves to escape or just give up trying. But then every town has those people in them, doesn't it? They tend to find a path to follow given enough time to think about it or at least that's what my father says."

He ran a hand through his hair then, "As for me, I don't do too well in cramped spaces after a while on days like today even despite the heat I just have to get outside. So, on the occasional day where I've been up since four in the morning, I duck out of math and take a nap where the teachers can't give enough effort to come and find. I make sure to get my work handed in on time but if I cannot focus it's not worth anyone's time." he gives you a smirk followed by a long yawn. "Though that's the cross to bear from being born to parents who both need you up before dawn. And now I'm going to add after school responsibilities to the list for clubs. Just makes you want to pass out at the thought."

"Whatever, anything that keeps my mind off of being stuck in this shithole helps as far as I'm concerned."  Clark continued to stare at the canopy.  "Mark me up for the 'kill myself trying to escape' crowd."  Clark looked at his watch to check the time, trying to gague how long he had before he had to go to the after-school clubs.

"Noted," He laughed fully his voice carrying through the wooded area more than Clark may have liked. He still had lunch and two other classes to get through before he could get out to check with his clubs. Owen noticing the glance at the watch continue's "If you have to be somewhere its no problem to just leave. I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty of each other with how small this school is, so you do need to hold back and worry about me. In fact, I'm awake now thanks to your grand entrance so I might as well start heading back inside myself. I can show you a sneaky way in if you like."

"Sure, might be useful for later."  Clark gets up and pats off his pants.  "Lead the way arch-druid Owen."

"Follow the leader then," Owen said continuing to smirk, heading back towards the school he led Clark over to a small gardened area with a tree. Pointing up to an open window on the second floor Owen continued while leaning against the tree, "The nurse normally keeps her window open and spends enough time out of the office. Students athletic and quick enough should have no problem clambering up this oak without much trouble. Though there are a handful of weaker branches that you have to be careful of that if you weren't aware of might land you on your ass." With that he scampered up the tree like a monkey without a care in the world.

He stopped straddling one of the top branches and offered a hand, "Well, you coming or what?"

"I'm fine."  Clark looks around before running at the tree and kicking off the trunk.  Aiming to grab the thickest branch, he stretches out his arms gain purchase.

Clark scampers up the tree refusing help feeling cocky and self-sufficient, however, he slightly misjudged the actual size of the tree is taller than he thought with less foot holds then Owen made it appear. In order not to lose his momentum and fall, as a result, he takes the last of his footing and attempts to spring up to latch onto a branch like a cat attempting to escape pursuit. Clinging to one of the upper branches. Not the most graceful of attempts, but he at least made it to a safe spot or that's what he thought until the branch he was clinging to began to creak and give way before he could regain his composure.

He would have fallen then with the branch in hand the 15 or twenty feet, butt first, as he had before. Luckily at the last moment, Owen stepped in and grabbed him by the back of the shirt and waist. "I told you the climb was trickier than it looked." He grunted as he took on the majority of your weight as you wouldn't fall. He took more effort to let you than making sure that you did not fall as you cleared the gap into the small nurse's room both of you panting heavily. "Glad I was there, or you probably would have gotten hurt if your luck would have kept going."

Clark was embarassed by his failure and sullenly kept his gaze away from Owen in order to hide any sign of his soured mood.  "I was fine." He said, looking away from Owen.  He looked around, giving the nurse's room an apraisal while he let signs of his fluster drain away from his face as best he could.  He was trying to orient himself after the dizzying near fall.  He wasn't sure where in the school he was and had never been inthis room before.

"Whatever you say Man, your welcome by the way." He said with an audible smirk seeming to take notice of Clark's embarrassment while he scanned the room, but choosing not to comment further on it.  "You know I don't think I caught your name before." He panted slightly as he finished recovering.

The nurse's office could by all appearances be better qualified as a large closet rather then an actual room. Shaped like an "L" the office is split into two even smaller rooms. The vertical section had two beds with curtains and a large antique Chinese medicine cabinet dominating the room at the bottom corner by the window. Making this already cramped room even more so the imposing design decision makes it hard to pick out other details at a glance outside of the normal supplies.

All the actual medicine you imagine along with the nurse's desk and files are behind the door directly to your right making the horizontal portion of the "L". The door appears to be locked at first glance. Most likely to keep kids and the following lawsuits out of the supply without supervision.

One thing you do notice is there appears to be no bathroom access with only a sink and a mirror wedged opposite of the two beds. With the room being barely wide enough at the most uncluttered points for two people to stand comfortably together it's a miracle that. Although the lack of a bathroom is a small inconvenience that may not be worth noting.

Clark doesn't respond to Owen as he walks over to the chinese medicine cabinet.  He looks over the drawers, hoping to see if there are any indications for what is in each drawer.  He tries to open three drawers at random, looking to discern their contents.  He continues to look over the cabinet.  It reminded him of shops he saw in his travels.  Dank, musty places smelling of incense and underneath it all more intriguing fumes.  It seemed out of place for such a cabinet to be here, in this town so far from where one would think to find it.  "Where did this come from?"

"Who knows, remarked Owen seeming to take notice of the cabinet for the first time. "It's the first time I've seen it. Someone must have found this thing over the summer. What's it for anyways?"

As Clark searched through random drawers he found things like candied ginger, garlic, and star anise stuffed into one of the drawers. Searching further he found things most often found in a grocery store in any good Chinatown in regards to eastern medicine. Opening the last door, however, he found a small compact container made from dark stained wood with a small handwritten label on it. In sharp calligraphy, EX-10 Cuts and Bruises was scrawled across the label. Opening the lid the substance inside looked like a facial cream like substance, which reminded Clark of the kind of pastes and salves he had seen various medicine men and country doctors use the world over.

Clark turned the compact over in his hands, looking over its craftsmanship.  Seems awfully nice for a public school.  He thinks to himself.  His mind starts to wander and he continues to turn the compact in his hands absent mindedly.  Where could all of this have come from?  There isn't a chinatown for hours and I don't think this could have all been locally grown.  He taps the compact in his hand and walks a small circle in place.  He tries the door to the room with the nurses desk to see if it's locked.  "Who's the nurse that works here?"

As Clark passed lost in thought he barely noticed his heartbeat begin to quicken as the questions rushed through his head. Time felt like it slowed down slightly as a phantom tingling sensation of foreign excitement like electricity ran through his body making the hair on the back of his neck stand on end and energized the gate of his step slightly as moved to check the door. His body did not feel quite his own heady under the weight of the atmosphere, heat, and his own hungry curiosity a need to.

Then he touched the door finding it indeed locked, and the moment passed as quick as it came; leaving no trace of itself more then a slight tingle across the roof of his mouth and his shoulders as if he had sneezed. The whole thing lasted no longer then a few moments making it difficult to tell wether it even happened or not, as he asked his question.

Owen did not seem to notice or miss a beat as things returned to normal making it even harder to distinguish what happened. You mean Nurse Hawthorne? She started last year ever since the old nurse retired. She's nice if not a bit enthusiastic.

Clark stopped for a minute, his hand on the handle of the door still.  "Did you?"  He turns around, looking up at the ceiling and then back out the window they came in through.  He looks down at the compact in his hand then back up at Owen.  "Enthusiastic how?  Enthusiastic enough to buy an antique cabinet and then fully stock it with exotic ingredients?  How much are they paying her to afford this?"  He moitions with the compact at the cabinet and then taps it agaist his other hand.

[info]Nothing new catches your attention[/info]
Owen seemed a bit lost at the questions, scratching his head and looking up at the ceiling missing any looks or feelings Clark may be having while trying his best to answer. "Your bet on payment is as good as mine, most likely no more than peanuts I'd Imagine, I doubt that the school has extra funds. But, don't quote me on that" He paused to chew on his thoughts for a moment longer.

"As for what I mean by enthusiastic, there are a lot of kids who are struggling either at home or at school for some reason or another. There is not really a budget for a counselor and she has taken it upon herself to watch out for people. Make sure they're eating and that kind of thing regardless of who they are. She's chased after me more than a handful of times after I got scraped up, She's eccentric and overbearing and made kids have detention more than once for not listening. So she might have bought the thing and filled it but that would most likely have to be coming out of some private funds." He then looked at his watch, "Crap! we should get going the bell is going to ring soon!"

Clark looks up at the door at this and checks his own watch for the time.  Pocketing the compact he heads for the door.  "Well I guess our time here is at an end then Snorlax.  Thanks for the tip on getting back into the school."  Clark walks over to the door into the hallway.  Cracking open the doorway he looks through to see whats going on in the hallwaty.

As you glance down the hall it's mostly empty except for a few kids still mulling by the hallway notice boards as they seem to be struggling with the club stuff from that morning. Other than that the halls are deserted as classes are just about to be let out for the next period.

"Glad I could help I guess," he slaps you on the shoulder as he goes to move past you, " don't be so formal if you see me feel free to say hi Buddy at the very least you're entertaining." He goes out into the hallway just as the bell rings and the masses beginning filling the halls and then he's lost in the tide.

Clark follows Owen's lead and slips into the tide of teenagers and heads for his next class.  His head a bit cleared by his adventure, he tries to surreptitiously get to his next class without bumping into his last teacher in case they cared enough to try and bring him up on his class ditching.  He also tried to keep an eye out for that ginger kid from earlier.  Who knows what new testosterone fueled accusations he was going to try and make if they ran into eachother again.

The next class went by easily enough without another outburst or strange incident beyond the occasional request to leave class.  It was nothing out of the ordinary and lunch was coming up next which would give Clark more time to breathe. The bell rang as hunger pangs from that morning's escapades began to settle in. The cafeteria is one of the larger rooms on campus which isn't saying much with a handful of tables both inside and outside for people to mull around and eat.

Students are busily mulling about grabbing trays of food and chatting, getting an isolated table seems almost impossible but the rumbling in your stomach drives you to enter the room.

Clark makes his way into the caffeteria, looking for where the queue started.  He kept an eye out for trouble and tried to get a feel for the cliques of the school.  Caffeterias were the watering holes of the primal savanah afterall and it was best to try and see who were the lions, who were the gazelles, and who were the hyenas.  So Clark sits in line watching the other students while he waits for his turn.
