It wasn't too long of a journey. The estate wasn't all too far from Ternadan, or the headquarters of the guild, so everyone was still refreshed when they finally came upon the estate in question as well as the lord Eric Ghele who had waited for your group to arrive.

The estate was large, featuring a mansion, with many outlying buildings on either side. One thing that didn't take long for all of you to notice however was the state of disrepair of the place. Walls were cracked, gardens ruined, weeds growing abundantly, dirty footpaths, even the iron grate marking the entrance to the estate was rusted and worn.

Lord Ghele told you that he inherited the mansion from a cousin of his who died many, many years ago. The site was simply never claimed due to "legal processes" for many years, and only recently was lord Ghele able to inspect his newly acquired property. What he found astounded him. Although the upper floors of the interior was fine, the trouble is the basement floor. A locked door once barred the entrance to the area, but after Ghele's servants had opened it, and ventured in, they found themselves in the pit of life. Now, this isn't the bubbly and vibrant life one would expect from the word, but 'life' in a more quesy and disturbing way. Everywhere the servants looked, there were critters and vermin running loose and rampant. It didn't take long for screams to echo through the basement floors, as injured and dying servants rushed out to safety.

Lord Ghele was, of course, not pleased.

He recounted the story with an almost exuberant enthusiasm, his tone unchanging even at the describing of the deaths of his former servants. He had then ushered your group on its way. Into the gates, past the browning shrubbery, through the creaking large doors, and finally to the entrance of the basement.

And there you were.

Smack down at the start of the basement of the old and seemingly infested
Kaelban Estate.

You find yourselves at the basement. Looking out from where you had just came in from, the doors that marked the way out of the basement was closed. Lord Ghele mentioned that he didn't want any pesky creatures in anywhere else other than the basement, thus, after giving you each a key to unlock the door, he closed it.

And once it was closed, nothing but the darkness greeted you.

In the darkness, I fumble around in my pack looking for flint and tinder to light one of my torches. After lighting the torch, I take a look around the room not particularly examining it, but just getting a feel for the situation that I have gotten myself into. I have my sword ready, and my shield on my back as I do not want to be caught off-guard by a nasty surprise that could potentially be waiting in the darkness.

Looking around at my companions on this quest in the light granted by the torch I mumble "Well ain't this a fine mess we got ourselves into." and wait to see how the other members of the party respond to our surroundings.
If anything is wrong or I should be using 3rd person instead of 1st person or anything else you can think of, let me know!
There was nothing all too remarkable in the area. There was an archway to the west of you, and to the south was a closed door. Beyond the western archway, a hallway leads out to beyond, The floor has stains of blood, which was likely from the recent escapade of Ghele's servants. You notice that the floor is uneven, and it would make it a bit more of a challenge if one were to run through the area.

The whole affair leading up to this expedition seemed rather amusing, but that did not hold Jorn back from participating. Once they arrived at the estate, events were whisked by quickly and they found themselves sealed within the basement of the estate. One companion fumbled about and began to light a torch. Jorn back away to the very edge of the illumination in order that he might preserve his dark vision. The moon elf gave a flourishing bow, "well gentlemen my name is Jornathel Mithraiian, and it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I suppose we should prepare to advance into this unsightly place and be done with our work. It would not do to miss a good dinner if at all possible."

He was unsure of these companions but a test was certainly in order to better analyze their strengths. Well no matter the course those made of the right stuff would prevail and the others will bless the moon with a kiss. He smiled a deep and warm smile enjoying his private comedy.

I stood at the back of the group, waiting, observing, so silently. I am known to be quite the observer. I watched them all sit there, clueless as to what to do, where to go, whom to trust. I listen to the pessimistic little man speak and think to myself. He is one I am not too fond of. Although, I am not too fond of the race of men in general. Then, the Elf. He speaks, in, an intriguing way. His attire, and appearance seem as if, he would be appealing to me, but no, his voice. His poor choice of words. I do not believe this to be a tea party! The rest of the group have not done anything that can perhaps impress me the slightest, so I will not form any opinions. I see the way ahead. It has blood strewn out across the uneven, broken stone floor and my eyes bulge with the sight of the dark red blood, but, I summon my will, and I resist the temptations. I see that the westernmost end of the room enters into a corridor, so I suppose that is where we will be going, unless of course our "group" of so called adventurers can't coexist in this infernal basement. I suppose, that I will just have to, see what, exactly, might, happen.

"Before deciding what route to take, we ought to see what other paths this room may offer." I said as I walked forward about ten feet to expand the light of my torch. "I am looking forward to working with you fellows, and I sincerely hope that we all make it out of here alive with a good tale to tell the next time we are in the tavern."

You watch as Ryine takes up his torch and moves further south, lightening the darkness with the glow of his torch. The darkness parted slowly as Ryine took the steps further away from the group. You saw some rats scurry on by, reacting from the light that the torch gave off. The doorway to the south was a bit more visible, though it was still shrouded. There was still nothing else to note within the area.

Quote"Before deciding what route to take, we ought to see what other paths this room may offer."

With silent strides, Jorn followed behind Ryine his voice falling to all but a whisper, "since you have taken the initiative to press south, this course should suit just fine." His perceptions were sharpened in this dank place. No matter who was within, it would not do to be caught unaware.

Hearing Ryine shout, he heads south to him and shouts back, "Need some help over there?"
Oath, that is gold!
Saendal watches the creature named Xander introduce himself and he composes his thoughts once more. He walks forward with the rest of the group and stops just a couple feet behind them. "Of course it's a door! Now, open it!" Saendal exclaims. Saendal does not intentionally mean to be a grouch, he just, as a result of his talent for observation, likes to, shall I say, test people, and see how they react to certain scenarios. This being one of those scenarios.

Saendal thought for a second, then answered. "You may try, but, there is a slight chance that you will actually be able to break down the door. And also, make sure to hit it with your good shoulder. We mustn't have any injuries, am I right?" Saendal steps back a couple steps and crosses his arms.

The display between the two was quite amusing. Though most of the interactions up to now were the basic getting to know you type conversation pieces. It might have been a good thing to have sat down and had a mug of ale with everyone before our departure. However with the need for pressing business things must be attended to. There was a slight chance the job could have very easily have passed them by as well if given to hesitation. Jorn, followed closely behind keeping a watchful eye on his companions and their surroundings.

There are both good people, and bad people. Two polar opposites, but, there is one other, very distinct group. The neutral people are the people who do things for themselves, or for no apparent reason. They are the selfish rich folk, the monks in the mountains, and sometimes the average person. Saendal is in this group, and as such, he is not usually liked, because of his beliefs, but he does not let that get to him. Saendal is in all reality a very strange character, but he has his reasons. Reasons that are yet to be revealed.

Saendal, being as non-oppinionative as he is, stepped behind Ryine and let him take the lead. "I suppose, that the man, with the big sword and torch to light the way, should be the leader, so, after you," Saendal said as he bowed his head. "What path shall we take?" He said, eyes fixated on Ryine's eyes.

Having been idling for a bit while the others went about their ways, I finally decided it was my turn to do something useful. Just about that time, though, I heard a screech exuding from beyond the hallway Saendal and Ryine venture through. Quickly - though not at full speed, for I wasn't about to run as fast as I could to what very well may be my death - I made my way through the western archway and down the hallway to my immediate left. I sighed a sigh of relief inaudibly in my mind before filling in the gap between Saendal and Jorn. I made it a point not to express how satisfied I was that they were still alive so as not to make myself appear as though I might depend even the slightest on anyone who is not myself. There, I quietly awaited what move the group might make next.

Having finally recovered from being frozen with fear, i set out to rejoin my companions. Entering a nearby doorway i manage to walk right past their hallway and straight into a wall. After a brief recovery, I turned a few corners, heading in what i thought was the right direction, but apparently I did not discover my companions yet. Thinking it might be unwise to travel further in by myself, I decided to backtrack back to the first doorway, which is where i discover another path! I run smack dab into Jorn and fall backwards, hitting my head and rendering myself momentarily unconscious.

As the group moved forward with Ryine leading the way and lighting the darkness, you see another room open up. At the far end of it, you see another closed door. The room was dark, even when Ryine's torch lighted the area. As the flames moved, the rocks and stones on the ground which cast their shadows seem to flicker and move around. Like the rest of the basement, the floor was cracked and uneven in various places, and even the walls had signs of disrepair. Something felt ominous, though what it was, no one knew.

Before anyone could react, a high pitched piercing scream resounded all around you. It was just like the previous scream. And like before it caught everyone off guard.

Not a moment later, a spray of what looked to be goo shot out from the ceiling. It headed straight towards Ryine. Within moments the source of fluid appeared as it crawled along the ceiling, about 12 feet high from the ground.

The party moved at a quickened pace, examining the maze of hallways if but briefly before moving on to the next dead end. The shriek that cut through the party was quite a sound reminiscent of things that reside below ground quite possibly a bat. These considerations along with others filled Jorn?s thoughts when suddenly he was assaulted from behind. With years of practiced efficiency the elf drew his sword with the crisp ring of steel, spinning on his heels to face the opponent. He was suddenly at war with centuries of instincts that would never have hesitated at the sight of a goblin. Though his attire was his saving grace, as it was their wayward companion Wiz, a rather strange and clumsy creature for certain.

He frowned and offered his hand in assistance to the clumsy creature. ?Wiz you should be a bit more careful and mid your surroundings a bit more. It would not do to go stumbling into a monster in these dark halls now would it?? He grinned down at the goblin with a friendly smile. ?Let us catch up with our companions shall we.? Jorn also took note of Sholeth making his way in among the party. It appeared that they were now in good number and able to face whatever may cross their path.

That shriek from before came echoing down the hallway once again and the sounds of combat could be heard coming from the next room. It was concern for his companions that drove Jorn into the room in order to back up his friend, Ryine.
Will Save: Rolled 1d20+2 : 15 + 2, total 17 if passed, Jorn moves fully into the room, place me due south of the spider against the far wall.
Saendal grinned at his successful strike on the creature. He could see its downfall soon arrive. He was without another option until he remembered Max, his pet. His smile widened and he started chanting and moving his hands in uncanny patterns. "Hroshi naaklin tuhorin lisripson nos por loki tan!" As he chanted bones started squeezing out of the ground. A skeleton dog stood up and howled. Max automatically knew his master's wish and he would carry them out faithfully. The dog leapt at the spider, dislocated his jaw and prepared to grip the spider's torso with its razor sharp teeth.

As Ryine's sword came crashing down upon the large spider's head, it made a sickening crunching sound as the blade went through the creature's head. Ludar cursed as his foot was stuck tightly in a crevice filled with what appeared to be webbing, He struck at the sticky stuff with his mace but it barely moved, if at all. The dwarf sighed, it was suppose to be s simple clear the dungeon mission. Normally he wouldn't think twice about entering such a place but now he was thinking that perhaps thinking twice would have been a great if not grand idea. He thought of his wife and his two sons, what would happen to them if their father did not return. No he could not be trapped here and die not like this "By Helm's Ring, I'm not becoming spider food today".

That was when he heard it, sound of weapons, screaming, like a banshee enraged. It wasn't far from him, perhaps if he yelled 'HELP!! I'M STUCK!", that was the best he could do? So much for his academy training.

Saendal watched Ryine slash down into the spider's head and gutting it. It continued to twitch on the ground and was not dead. Max went over to it and licked one of it's legs. "Max, stay with me," and with that command Max jovially trotted over to Saendal's side and would not leave until further command. He looked up at the rest of his comrades and was pleased to see that no injuries were taken. Except for the spider that is. "Who, would like to have the honor of sending, this abhorrent creature, back to whence it came?" Saendal looked at each one of them and waited for a response.

I suddenly heard a yell from behind me. I turned around quickly and spotted a dwarf with his foot stuck, and started toward him with the attention of setting him free, but after a moment i remembered that dwarves hated goblins. I stopped where i was, sat down, and decided to brainstorm. I could free him from his predicament, but what if he attacked me while my back was turned? I could just leave him there, but then my companions would think lesser of me and might even turn on me themselves. That's when it hit me! Jorn didn't hesitate to help me up, despite me being a goblin. Maybe i should place the same trust in the rest of them, like they did with me. Realizing that I had sat on a pile of bones i sprang to me feet and then continued toward the unlucky dwarf. I cast jelly flavor turning the web the flavor of raspberry jelly and proceed to eat it. It was sticky, and hard to swallow... I'm gonna have a stomachache in the morning.

Saendal watched the spider die with pleasure. His eyes feasted on the sight. He craved for more. For blood. His attraction to death, and blood was not of malicious intent. He just, has changed ever since he ventured into those ancient ruins. He snapped his head to the left and shut his eyes, blocking the sight of the dead creature. He took control of himself and opened his eyes again. "Now, we should be moving on. Good work," he said as he walked over to the door which blocked their path. He hesitated, then stepped forth and pulled on the handle of the door.

Normally Ludar would have not asked any questions while simply lending to dispatching the goblin with due haste, but then the strangest thing happened. The cleric sat stunned in silence as the webbing suddenly turned into what appeared to be some sort of jelly. If that was all that had taken place he would have just shrugged and thought nothing of it, but then the strange goblinoid proceeded to eat the webbing. It stared at him as it chewed, Ludar gave a nervous smile, while staring perplexingly at its ridiculous hat.

The chaos of the last few minutes finally began to subside and it appeared as if everyone was finally catching up to the front of the party. These were both good signs that perhaps they would finally pull together through this ordeal. ?I would strongly suggest we wait for the others to gather here in the room. The once all are within we can proceed, perhaps using this room as a foot hold. Since we all know that it is now safe.? The smell of ichor from the spider cavity was certainly in the air, but hey there are worse things one could have to stomach. Jorn took account of what was still at his disposal and with a silent nod felt more in control of the situation.

"Shall we go further? Any group members who wish to stay, here in our fallback area, may. Is this alright with you, Ryine?" Saendal asked. Saendal's eyes seemed to pierce the air and start a storm in Ryine's eyes. His stare was so unwavering and was filled with so much intrigue, and fire with no bounds. He didn't care about others' security, or comfort. What matters to him is progress, and results. That is what has driven Saendal ever since the incident. The necromancer couldn't stand by and let the fighter take all the heat, so he readied a spell to strike at the creature. He started rubbing his hands together and they began glowing with ferocity, pulsing with dark energy. He then cast the [bold]Sleep[/bold] spell upon the spider to make it more susceptible to Ryine's attacks. Then Saendal unsheathed his sword, ready to go into action.

I walk through the doorway that's in front of me and suddenly crash into what i am already familiarized with as Jorn's bottom. I staggered to my feet, cursing quietly as i did so, and was about to ask Jorn as to why he had decided to park himself in front of the doorway, but then i spotted the spider. This time it appeared to be a lot more lively then the dispatched one in the previous room. I quickly get into position.

Jorn has grown board with the labyrinth beneath the estate. He continually found his mind wandering back to the moon, the face of true beauty. How he wished to be outside to breath in the sweet sent of grass, and feel the wind on his face. Elves were not meant for such confined spaces, in dank darkness below ground, well except for perhaps his distant cousin the drow. It had not even dawned on Jorn, that Seadal was one of the dark breathern. They were typically so angry and filled with malice. Perhaps it was the lack of the sun and moon that made them this way. Its hard to say one way or another. Those musing along with others kept Jorn's mind preoccupied until he at last remembered they had a job to do.

He spun on his heels and proceeded to follow Saedal out of the room in search of a different route through this maze of hallways.
He spoke up in good humor, "The sooner we are done with dreadful place the better. With all of these doors secured, you think the man of the manor would have had the decency in order to give us a set of keys."

As the party ventured deeper in the darker hallways of the Kaelban estate, a strange stench wafted from somewhere deeper in. As Saendal moved further into the hallway, the stench increased. It became almost unbearable. A moment after that another large spider appeared as it spit forth the same green liquid aimed at Ryine.

The spider was too slow however, as Ryine managed to block the attack with his shield. Though, green goo was on it now.

Title: Re: [IC] Kaelban Estate
Post by: Manzokushi on December 02, 2012, 09:17:29 PM
The construction of the place was laughable at best. Why someone would have such twisting corridors for a home or even a basement made little sense. Perhaps that was the meaning behind these infestations. Creatures from the dark wandering in here due to the dungeon-like feel within. Or a more likely scenario was that the owner wanted more space and possibly ventured further into the ground. Humans were not aware of the lower levels that existed within the earth. The darker places were evils lurked at every turn.

As Jorn rounded the corner another pest presented itself attempting to surprise his comrades. Luckily they were prepared and the ambush failed to amount to any for of serious harm or injury.

His hand moved with little thought decades of memory woven into the arcane symbols and vowels necessary to create the invisible missile.

As one, Ryine and Saendal attacked the spider. Ryine leading with his aiming at the large spider's thick skull, hoping to crush the beast's head. But the spider had seen it coming as it moved just barely out of the way out of Ryine's attack. It did not however, see Saendal's strike, as the necromancer's sword bit into the spider's head. Originally focusing on the warrior, the spider hisses at the weirdly colored blood poured for from its head. It turned towards the more dangerous threat, Saendal with it's hungry eyes.

It attempted to leap towards the necromancer, but the magic missiles Jornathel had cast struck the spider just as it pounced in the air with its fangs aiming to bite the necromancer. The blow disrupted the creatures movements and Saendal was able to easily side step out of the way.

As Ryine, Saendal, and Max, charge in again attempting to kll the spider, the creature moved out of the way as Saendal's attack just scratched its hide. But that proved lethal to the spider, as moments later Max clawed down on it, disabling the creature from moving. Ryine took the chance and swung his sword down atop the creature's head.
