Book 1 - Chapter 2.1 Trouble in the Mists

Location: Road north of Telan

Time: ~1200

Halfway through your day navigating the road north of Telan, the fog that gathered this morning still hasn't cleared up. Though, serendipitously a strong breeze does waft its way across the Steppe just long enough for Scathach to spot something a short way off in the distance.

"'Owl up. Somethin' movin' on tha road up ahead."

     "What now?" Asked Thedrin as he hopped down from his horse, a hand pulling his warhammer from its ring on his belt.

"Kobolds. Three av 'em in tha road ahead." Scathach replied barely above a whisper. "Don't tink they've spotted us yet."

[spoiler=Thedrin's Perception]Try as you might, you couldn't see clearly enough in the fog to spot the kobolds Scathach mentioned.[/spoiler]

   "Kobolds? Then what are we waiting for? We should attack them and either crush them in a single charge or scatter them to the wilds."  Said Thedrin as he tried in vain to see through the fog.

"Well, whenever ya'll are ready." Rhenri whispered lowly, pulling out her weapon, and setting a stance.

Cecilia strained her eyes in the fog, trying to spot the apparent threat.

[spoiler=Rhenri's Perception]Straining to look out into the dense fog reveals to you a shadowy shape that may as well be a single kobold.[/spoiler]
[spoiler=Cecelia's Perception]After a moment concentrating on the fog, you manage to pick out two small figures that roughly look the size and shape of a kobold.[/spoiler]

"On yer mark oi suppose..." Scathach said quietly, and gestured to the general area farther down the road where the kobolds she saw stood.

[info]Roll for initiative and you'll have a surprise round. Any creature at 30 feet or more from another has total concealment in the fog, and any creature at 15 feet or more has partial concealment. For the sake of simplicity, Scathach has indicated the general location of the kobolds and they are indicated on the map with their tokens.

Cecilia creeps forward through the mists trying to get in a position to assist her allies, and casts mage armor on herself.

     "Try to take down the ones in the rear. I'll charge the foremost one."  Said Thedrin as he advanced towards the kobold.

Thedrin: As you picked your way down the road to get closer to the kobolds, you suddenly feel the earth shift and give way beneath your feet!
