Moving your horse as fast as possible, up ahead was a hill with a large boulder on top of it had forced the road to slightly curve around it.

Obstacle 1 at Zone 3-4 Junction - Off-road Shortcut - Acrobatics - DC 10
The path through the fields might be bumpy, but if everything on the wagon stays in place at the speed you were rushing then you could potentially get a lead from the axe beak chasing. However, going off-road potentially means encountering more problems.

Rather than going off-road, another option was sticking with the path but spurring the mount faster.[/info]

Other players can call out if they want to do other actions, which will be resolved as per their initiative. These can apply penalties/bonuses to rollers. Or increase the axe beak's likelihood to stop chasing (rolling per round, and using distance, damage taken, and other things to see if it quits).[/info]

"Ms. Ciara!" Mimsy called out formally as she spurred her mount forward. She began to steer the wagon off the road to get a bit further ahead on the road.

"Can you get the bird's attention? Please!" Mimsy yelled loudly, closing her eyes for a moment, but immediately opened them again when she realized she was the one driving the horses. If the wagon could get ahead of Ciara, that might mean they would get away safely. She figured it was the goods on board that were important anyways.

Between the rattling and thumping of the cart, the general panic, and the screeching from the charging fowl behind them, it had become difficult for Eydis to discern what should be done. Her instincts would normally have her supporting, but it became apparent that she's one of the only people able to fight at range. "Damn it all...!" Eydis grumbled in discontent, knowing that she didn't excel at direct ranged combat.

Still, it was the only option for her. "Kari, guide me." She whispered, placing her wind rune onto the back of her hand and preparing to repel the beast.

     Yuki vaulted over the backrest of the driver's bench and grabbed the bundled up lion skin.  Unfurling it, she jumped on top of a chest as she shrouded herself in the pelt.  "Sotu, get on my shoulders and do your best lion impression!"  She said as she lined up the lion legs with her arms and did her best facsimile of a lion's claws with shuriken wedged in her knuckles.

"Ok." Sotu replied flatly, before scrambling up on top of Yuki's shoulders.

"Rooooooaaaar!" she... roared, and made little hand motions like cats paws.

Taiga seeing Yuki's and Sota's attempt at being intimidating, he decides to give them a helping hand by crouching down behind them showing his tail to the bird and roaring as loud and as beastly as he could manage. He waited right until Sotu roared for the second time making sure that they were in time with the pair's movements. Though he did not think about the consequences of possibly surprising the girls in the process.

Ciara looked over to Mimsy and nodded. "I'll cover you. Just go!" She drew  her sword and slowed down keeping the cart ahead of her so she could cut the bird off if it caught up.

Combined with the efforts of Taiga (with Sotu being insanely adorable in the background), the axe beak seemed to hesitate as it continued to close the gap. It lowered its head further as it moved, as if it was wary, though the fact that the targets didn't seem that far away to it, it decided to continue the chase.[/info]

You followed Mimsy through the shortcut, Mimsy was able to have good control of her vehicle, however, there were a couple of times that your horse slowed down to the uneven ground and terrain. You found yourself falling behind as Mimsy continued forward. The axe beak was still farther behind you however, and at the very least, you were certain that the axe beak had its vision trained on you, instead of the wagon ahead.[/error]

Traversing through the hill, the upwards climb started to become a bit more difficult, more so because of the fact that the horses were being pushed as fast as they can go. At the top of the hill were a variety of rocks and boulders that were partly hidden from the tall grasses that surrounded the area.

One could either slow down to carefully guide the horses through, ensuring that there was no boulders or large boulders that the horses or wagon would snag on.

Or perhaps spur the mounts forward even faster. It would take a great deal of control over the horse, but would cover the distance well.[/info]

Mimsy saw the rocks coming, she didn't want to accidentally have the wagon bump into any of the large boulders, so she proceeded to slow her horses down.

You were able to successfully move the horses without crashing into anything.[/okay]
[okay]Picking itself up, the axe beak proceeded to move over the rock, but the fall from earlier caused it to go a bit slower. Seeing its prey get farther away, especially with the fact they seemed a bit more intimidating than it expected, it was starting to feel as if giving chase was not worth it.[/okay]

Eydis was in the midst of preparing another rune to bolster her attacks, but upon seeing the creature stumble and lose some vigor, she decides to gamble in the interest of time, and fire her weapon as-is. Leveling the crossbow at the bird, Eydis lets loose a bolt, which she hopes will reach the target with the wind's guidance.
