[Hanako] Chapter 13.5: Howl in the Night

You managed to find enough material for the uniform, after that, Trudy went to sleep. You noticed that Kari didn't bother going to bed until a bit later, and even after that, she woke up 4 hours later. As for your work trying to mend the uniform back, you actually did a pretty decent job. By the end of the night, you would have made a proper uniform.

It was sometime during the night, when you and Kari were awake, that you both noticed wolves started to surround the perimeter of the camp.

Initiative requested. Prepping map, we'll have status tracking there instead, for less work on me.

"I think... We might be surrounded. Trudy, wake up!" Hanako said, with a some urgency. She couldn't quite see the wolves, but knew that they were maneuvering into a position to attack.

"Should probably stick close so they cant flank us..."

In her mind, Hanako called up the 'Summon Golem' menu and flicked through the options as fast as she could before making a selection.

You create the golem, and like before it took up a huge chunk of earth, and the nearby tree simply shattered and splintered as bits of its wood went into the forming and swirling orb of materials that floated in the air. It grew larger and larger, it would be a few more seconds yet, but you knew the golem would be ready. The wolves started to close in. The horses, seeing the danger started to bay, and pull away from the tree that they were tied to. After that, Kari began casting. This time she actually chanted, rather than simply willing the magic to appear. The form of her spell reminded you of how Trudy casts spells.

"Mine Goddess, Darkness. Thou art the black that paints this world far and wide with thy encompassing presence; A darkness thick that only true malevolence can cut through thee. Let thy servant wield thy darkness!《Darkness Blade》!" She chanted, and with that, her long curved blade started to be enveloped by a dark purple hue.

You see Trudy start to wake up.

"Lets make sure we protect those horses or it's going to be a long walk!" Hanako shouted, though she was sure that Kari and Trudy already knew that.

She sent a simple command to the golem to attack any wolves that got too near the tethered steeds, drew her blade and moved that way as well. They had already lost two of them, and she was unsure if Kari's necromancy would be able to raise the already skeletal mounts a second time.

Trudy, awake now, began to stand up, grabbing her weapon at the same time.

The Earth-Wood Golem, given the commands, immediately began to charge towards the wolf closing in on the horses. It closed the distance along with you as you moved towards the horses. One of its hands reached out, then hit the wolf hard. The wolf yelped as it was hit, it was badly wounded.

The two wolves began to flank the golem, one of the wolves managed to hit and tried to bring it down. The golem was only slightly injured, but it tripped from the wolves' attack and was now prone.

The rest of the wolves began to attack and flank both Trudy and Kari. Trudy was able to dodge out of the way of the three wolves. While Kari parried the attempted bite from the wolf with her weapon, however, the one behind her managed to hit, though Kari was only slightly injured, neither was the wolf able to trip her.

Kari responded with her blade, taking a step closer to Trudy, she had four attacks of her two-handed curved blade, two for each wolf, and alternating between them. Coupled with the spell she had used on her blade, it only took a single strike to kill the wolves.

Get up and keep attacking the wolves. Hanako commanded the golem mentally, unsure if it posessed enough autonomy to do that on its own, now that it had been knocked prone.

She brought her blade down at an angle towards the wounded wolf, hoping to finish it off quickly.

You killed the wolf, and immediately a notification appeared.

You are now level 29.[/okay]Trudy attacked the two wolves, one attack for each. She managed to hit both. She wasn't able to kill them, but brought both down to badly wounded.

The earth-wood golem attacked the next with two slams, killing the next wolf.

The wolves continued to attack. Trudy took two bites, and was slightly injured. But she stood her ground and didn't trip. Kari was attacked as well, though, one wolf missed, but the other hit. Kari responded by killing the two wolves.

The moment the notification for the titles disappeared. You heard a tiny voice that you thought came from the ground, but seemed to echo in your head.

"Hey! I might just be a blade of grass, but I don't like being stepped on, you know?" There was a murmur of agreement from a lot of other voices as well.

You recognized this as your Item Speaker blessing, though, you didn't feel the pull of mana from its triggering.

"Uhh... What? Sorry?" Hanako said momentarily confused to hear the voice of a blade of grass. "Can't really be helped..." she continued, and then took off at a charge towards the wolf to Trudy's right, brandishing her sword for a downward chop as she closed the distance.

You found it strange that whenever Kari killed the wolves you didn't attack, you didn't get any XP at all. It was only for those that you managed to hit. At the very least, you had been getting a level for each kill that you personally had a hand in.[/info]You closed the distance and hit, dealing damage to the wolf. The wolf was now badly wounded.

Trudy attempted to swipe at the wolves, but missed both her attacks.

The golem, right behind you, also closed the distance and attacked one of the wolves, taking down that wolf with its fist.

Kari circled around, and bringing her sword up, killed the final wolf.

Kari glanced around ensuring there were no other wolves in sight. That done, she crouched down to wipe the blood off her blade, running it through the grass.

"Wolves are preferred o'er trolls. Thou did well, hero."

"Ever since the demons took over, I feel like even the animals have become a lot more aggressive too. Usually wolf pets can sell for some money... Do we just want to leave the carcasses here?"

"If thou hath need of the pelt, skin it off. I hath not been able to make a bone collection since I was captured, so when thy work is done, I shalt do mine."

[Asta]

"Thanks, I think I'm getting a better handle on this." Hanako replied, then turned to Trudy. "Might as well collect the pelts, never know when we'll need to make a few extra coins, or use them to make something."

She made a mental note that much like old style MMOs she would need to get in a hit on anything they were fighting if she wanted to "level up" quickly.

"A bone collection?" she asked Kari.

As Trudy began to skin the pelts off of the wolves, Kari nodded and pointed at the carriage, specifically the section at the back where all the luggage was kept. From there, a series of glowing arcane circles appeared as Kari continued to stare at the location, as the second go by, various bones seemed to lift itself from it, and another moment later, what looked to be a skeletal version of the trolls you had fought earlier appeared.
