[Leela] Chapter 4.1: Moving Forest

None of the imps surrounding you managed to see it. Nor did Zephyrus mention anything. Even with your ability to sense mana keenly, you did not catch it in time. But in front of you, vines and foliage suddenly reached forward.

The creature gets a surprise round due to failed perceptions of literally everyone. Will be against the target's flat-foot AC.

The creature appeared out of no where, and two thick trunks that looked more like arms reached out towards both you and Efrit. Both of its attacks hit, first slamming both you and Efrit off your horses, then the trunks began to squeeze. It tried to grapple, but you were able to resist, and free yourself. Efrit was able to resist it as well.

The creature's grip was tight, but you were surprised that you were able to get away. Yourself from back on Earth would not have been able to.

Zavan responded next, growing scales, and extending his claws, along with moving as if to better flank creature. Efrit, having recovered, blasted off fire towards it. The ensuring blast made the creature stumble backwards, and you saw that it started to catch fire.

Retaliating, it reached out to Efrit with its large trunk-like arms. Efrit was better prepared this time, so he managed to avoid the first attack, but the second arm still hit him, at the same time, Efrit found himself caught and grappled in the creature's hand.

Leela had to think quickly as she suddenly found herself knocked off her horse. She was not sure how she had done it without teleporting like the imps, but she found herself out of the strange monster's grasp.

Seeing Efrit blast at the creature with fire and that the fire had seemed to catch, she thought out her next course of action. More fire might be bad, considering the creature might flail around and catch the surrounding flora on fire, which could result in more trouble. Lightning could work as well as fire for frying the creature, but she worried that calling forth lightning to strike it would alert nearby humans or creatures of their location and bring more trouble down on them. That left only one other option if she was going to be any help in this fight.

She started to copy Zavan, using her Mimicry to move into his first form so that scales grew and her nails grew into dagger-like claws. She knew Efrit could take care of himself with his fiery defense, but she would rather not have him burning his clothes off, so she moved to cut the creature's arms, preparing to teleport away at a moment's notice if needed.

Abi yelped, and poofed a distance away. She began to chant a spell, and some fire came out of her as well. It managed to hit, but it didn't seem to do much to the creature.

Zavan followed up by striking out with his claw weapons. His strikes hit, both slashes cutting off large pieces of the creature. Efrit fired off another blast of fire.

Leela continued with her course of action, slashing at the creature's arms.

Right after that blast of fire, you finished the fight by slashing your claws into its arms and likewise, into it's torso. The creature was already falling apart, but your last strike, struck it down. All of a sudden a notification appeared.

Pondering this level-up from what seemed to be an easy battle, Leela looked around in case there were more monsters.

At that moment, two of the imps popped into existence.

"Emeeeeeergency! Emeeeergency!" The imp started saying. "Leelasama! Monsters! Monsters!"

"They're in front!"

And true to their word, looking ahead you saw the same kind of creatures. Both the imps were uninjured, simply having teleported away the moment they had seen it.

Another Initiative. You are able to see 2 of them.

"Did you just leave the horses?!" Leela asked them, afraid the nightmares would get hurt or decide to avoid battle by poofing out of their plane of existence with the costumes they were wearing.

"The nightmares? The horses!"

"They're back there! We poofed! It's safer!"

At that moment, you heard the nightmares neigh, followed by a whipping sound. In the distance you saw a lone nightmare managing to dodge both attacks from the creature. However, the next neighboring nightmare in the formation was also attacked by another two more plant creatures. This time, those two attacks managed to hit. The vines didn't manage to grapple the nightmare, but the horse took a beating.

Zavan triggered his Form 2, then sped off towards the injured nightmare.

"Damn, there's more of them... They haven't been too bad though, even though they've been resisting my fire more so than I thought."

"You two imps, go and warn the others to bring their horses closer in to the main group and then have the fighters join the battle!" Leela told them, then teleported closer to the active battle. The first one they battled seemed weak enough, so she decided not to resort to magic just yet. She was glad she did not waste mana trying to burn them after hearing Efrit mention that they seemed to be resisting his fire.

With Zavan going to defend the nightmare who had been injured, Leela decided it would be best to teleport behind the single creature that had tried attacking the other nightmare. She attacked it with her claws as soon as she was in position.

You teleport to the lone monster attacking the uninjured nightmare, but as you attempted to strike, you missed. At that moment, a second creature appeared behind you.

Both it and the first one you had attacked attempted to strike out.
