Halfway through your day navigating the road north of Telan, the fog that gathered this morning still hasn't cleared up. Though, serendipitously a strong breeze does waft its way across the Steppe just long enough for Scathach to spot something a short way off in the distance.

"'Owl up. Somethin' movin' on tha road up ahead."

     "What now?" Asked Thedrin as he hopped down from his horse, a hand pulling his warhammer from its ring on his belt.

"Kobolds. Three av 'em in tha road ahead." Scathach replied barely above a whisper. "Don't tink they've spotted us yet."

   "Kobolds? Then what are we waiting for? We should attack them and either crush them in a single charge or scatter them to the wilds."  Said Thedrin as he tried in vain to see through the fog.

[spoiler=Cecelia's Perception]After a moment concentrating on the fog, you manage to pick out two small figures that roughly look the size and shape of a kobold.[/spoiler]

"On yer mark oi suppose..." Scathach said quietly, and gestured to the general area farther down the road where the kobolds she saw stood.

Cecilia creeps forward through the mists trying to get in a position to assist her allies, and casts mage armor on herself.

Thedrin: As you picked your way down the road to get closer to the kobolds, you suddenly feel the earth shift and give way beneath your feet!

"Waden expectin' that." Rhenri said, dashing towards the pit that had sprung up, while rummaging in her pack quickly to pull out the rope she had stored within.

"Psst. Ya alright?" The archer whispered over the pit.

[info]Rhenri moves 30 ft. to pit, move action pull out rope, free action drop end of rope into pit.[/info]

Scathach crept up near the edge of the pit, though it was all but certain that the kobolds heard the sound of Thedrin falling into the trap. "Let me see if oi can peck wan aff while yer climb oyt," she said drawing a bead on one of the shadowy figures out in the mist. She loosed an arrow, but it failed to find its mark.

"Are you alright, Thedrin?" She spoke in a bit more than a whisper, trying not to give up her location. She stepped forward and readied herself in case the kobolds advanced while Thedrin made his way out of the hole.

     Thedrin coughed from having the wind knocked out of him while he stared up at the others from the bottom of the pitfall. "I'm fine! Nothing I can't handle!" He was pretty sure his ankle was broken. He snaked his tail to his wand holster and passed it to his hand so that he could activate it before trying to stand up.

Cecilia catches one of the Kobolds advancing and sends a magical dart flying at it through the mists.

With the enemies closing in, Rhenri was able to get a better sight of them. Pulling back on her bow, she fired off an arrow towards the closest one.

Cecilia's acid dart shot through the mists and collided with the kobold's arm, searing the flesh. Undaunted, it continued to scamper closer and fired off a stone from its sling. The smooth projectile rocketed towards her landing a glancing blow. Rhenri's arrow deflected harmlessly off of the kobold's crude armor. Scathach, following her friend's lead also shot at the same target, sinking an arrow into its shoulder. The kobold farther up the road, emboldened by Thedrin falling for the trap, leveled its spear at Rhenri and charged; the primitive spearhead dug into her thigh.

From the tall grass lining the road, you hear rustling and rapid movement.

     Hearing the battle happening above, Thedrin gripped the rope and tried to pull himself up and out of the hole. He hadn't tried climbing like this since he had that one nighttime rendezvous with the one girl... the name escaped him... the ambassador's daughter from some southern kingdom. It was much easier to climb wit a beautiful girl awaiting him on the other end and leisure clothes instead of armor writing him down. Instead, nothing awaited him but some gruff peasants and giberring kobolds. "Poacher! Your friend seems to need your aid!"  He yelled as he tried to pull himself up.

After straining himself against gravity and his own weight, Thedrin managed to hoist himself five feet up the rope while calling out to Scathach.

"Not a poacher yer daft fool!" Scathach called back, but turned her attention to the kobold assailing Rhenri despite her annoyance.

Cecilia edged her way around the pit and approached two of the kobolds. She knew it was her chance to make a difference. "Color Spray!

A dazzling burst of color sprang from Cecilia's outstretched hand enveloping two of the kobolds in front of her. The one on the left's eyes rolled back in its head and it fell to the ground unconscious and drooling, while its companion somehow managed to shrug off the effects of the spell and retort with a sling stone hurled at Cecilia's face. The projectile flew by harmlessly.

From the tall grass lining the road, yet another of the small chattering reptilians sprung forth; spear in hand it thrust at Scathach but the point was turned aside by her armor.

Rhenri winced from the pain, but knew enough not to let it distract her. Taking a step back she fired off another arrow.

The flaming arrow streaked harmlessly past the kobold and the beast snarled in response to Rhenri's failed attack. Nearby, Scathach hopped back to create some space between herself and the kobold that had attacked her, she swiftly knocked another arrow and loosed it at Rhenri's assailant. The shot struck the kobold hard in its chest, piercing its meager armor as well as its lung. A brief gurgle of surprise and pain escaped its mouth before it collapsed to the ground.

Pleased that one of the kobolds had fallen prey to her spell, she refocused on the one that had resisted. "Acid dart!"
She wasn't sure if she was supposed to yell acid dart when she used it, but Thaddus told her it made wizards look cool, so she was rolling with it.

Moving westwards to prevent any attempts of flanking, Rhenri began to fire her bow targeting the next kobold.

Rhenri's attack ineffective, the kobold stepped sideways just in time to avoid the flaming arrow that streaked past its head. Scathach hopped backwards to put distance between her and the creature and fired off an arrow at point blank. This attack failed too, however.

Again from the tall grass another of the reptilian assailants emerged, its spear striking out at Scathach. The half-elf deftly ducked under the point, avoiding a painful blow.

     As the rope slipped out of his grip Thedrin's life passed before his eyes: parties, wine, nights spent with the daughters of Albion's aristocracy, having to glue naked from Duke Willwright in his escape from Selena's bedchamber, banishment, falling into this pit a few moments ago. This was his home now, he would be trapped in this dirty hole for the rest of his days. Hope died on this foggy morning as he came crashing into the dirt one again. The wind knocked out of him, he stared up at the rim of the pit.  "Guys, help! " He yelled, his voice devoid of any nobility and taking on a very notable desperate sniveling whine as the powerlessness of his situation took hold. "I've fallen and I can't get up!"

"Ah quit yer bellyachin' oyl pull yer up in a moment! Rhenri be a lamb an' keep tha bastards off me back!" Scathach called back.

"I hear ya!" Rhenri responded to Scathach, loading up another arrow and letting it loose towards the kobold attack the ranger.

Again the Rhenri's attack was ineffective, the kobold batted away the flaming arrow though just barely. Scathach dropped her bow, drew her sword and stepped up to the pit all while keeping an eye on the nearest foe. "Tie yerself ter tha rope an oyl git yer whaen oi can!" she called down to Thedrin.

The most recent kobold to emerge from the grass closed in on Rhenri and took a stab with its spear, though it was mistimed and she dodged it with ease.

     Thedrin stood, still whimpering a little, and tied the rope around his waist.

Cecilia sighs in frustration, another dart had gone astray. She slaps her cheeks to psyche herself up and yells again. "Acid Dart!" the glowing green dart shoots forth from her hand and glides through the air towards the kobold.

Yet again, Cecilia's attack was unsuccessful. The kobold that had been trading "blows" with Cecilia tossed down its sling in annoyance and removed its crude spear from where it was affixed to its back, stepping toward the mage with caution. The monster nearest Scathach lashed out at her with its spear but the attack only caused a small cut.

The markswoman frowned when another one of her shots missed, though at least she got out of the way from one of the kobold's attacks. She knew Scathach was being pressed, and with Thedrin still in the pit, it wouldn't be long until Cecilia was surrounded as well.

Taking another breath of the misty air, she focused her inner self again, this time preparing to unlead one of the maneuvers she had learned under her mentor.

Be it foul luck, or simply fate, yet again Rhenri's attack flew wide of its intended target. Scathach, still pressured by the kobold next to her lashed out at it with a swing from her scimitar. This time the attack connected, catching the kobold full in the chest and cutting a deep wound. The scaly humanoid dropped to the ground, incapacitated by the blow.

"Aboyt feckin time! 'Owl on an' oyl pull yer up!" Scathach hollered down to Thedrin, then stooped to grab the rope.

Meanwhile, the kobold engaged with Rhenri closed in once more and thrust its spear in a series of jabs, none of which found purchase.

     Thedrin braced against the wall and gripped the rope to be pulled up.

The acid dart Cecilia launched once again passed harmlessly by the kobold. The reptilian affected by her previous spell continued to lie on the ground in a stupor, while the one that had slowly been closing in moved a step closer and thrust at the mage with its spear... A mortal wound. The crude stone tip cut straight through her robes, her flesh, and passed between her ribs landing deep into her internal organs. A gout of blood came involuntarily from Cecilias mouth as she fell to the ground disabled and dying.

Finally one of Rhenri's attacks found its mark, the flaming arrow sunk into the kobolds face with a satisfying thunk. The creature toppled over backwards unconscious and dying. Meanwhile, Scathach stooped to wrap the rope around her forearm. When that was finished she hauled backwards to pull Thedrin up from the pit. "Up yer get!" she called out with a grunt.

     Finally out of the hole, Thedrin pointed his hammer at the nearest kobold. "You foolish kobolds, you think your meager hole could contain a true champion such as myself? I shall strike you down!"  He shouted as he leapt forward to try and smash his hammer down on the kobold.

Filled with righteous fury, and the ethereal energies of good, Thedrin's hammer collided with the face of the Kobold that had been sitting on the ground blind and stunned. The blow caved in its snout spraying blood and teeth everywhere as the rest of the kobold's body spun a quarter turn in the air and landed face down in its own pooling viscera.

Cecilia continued to bleed out on the ground. The remaining kobold, unexpectedly continued to attack rather than run. Turning its attention to Thedrin, who had just destroyed its companions face. The spear was no match for Thedrin's armor however, and the blow was turned aside harmlessly.

Rhenri's arrow found its target through the mist, catching the kobold in the side. The projectile had pierced one of its lungs and the creature dropped to the ground incapacitated.

The markswoman took a deep breath of the misty air as the last kobold went down.

"Me." Rhenri said looking down at the wound on her thigh, caused by one of the creatures early in the fight.

     Thedrin used the wand to help the archer.  "Poacher?" He asked looking to Scathach.

"Hunter." Scathach snapped back. "Nawt a lord aboyt 'ere managin' these vast tracks o' nothin', so Oi ain't poachin'. Ye get that? Thawt yer little spill down the 'ole moyt 'av taught yer some humility, but Oi guess yer can only lead a 'orse to water. Canny make 'im drink."

Scathach went to retrieve her bow where she had dropped it earlier. "And nu. Oym fine. Thanks fer askin'. Save yer wand for another toiym."

With the slight tension in the air, Rhenri began to put away her weapon and double-check on the wound that had since been healed. She nodded towards Thedrin in a gentle wordless 'thank ya'. Not paying much heed to her ranger companion's sharp tone towards Thedrin. Rhenri figured she'd let Scathach handle this one.

As such, she proceeded to go through the kobolds belongings, seeing if they had anything of worth.

On the bodies of the kobolds you find a variety of crude handmade equipment that is too damaged to be of any value, as well as some coinage, and a small bracelet made from woven leather straps with low-quality gems used as beads.

"Y'all any good with barterin'?" Rhenri asked, quickly tossing the bracelet and beads in the air a short distance.

     Thedrin took a casual glance at the bracelet. "A simple trinket. It might fetch some coin from a merchant. It certainly won't suit my style, not sophisticated enough. It's certainly rustic enough to fit one of you though if that's too your taste."
