《Chapter 13: The Evacuation of Tathi VIllage》

Soon enough, Ren and Dalina followed you to the platform. After that, Amie's father nodded towards Rosalie and raised his hand in a farewell gesture. The earth beneath you situated itself so that it was slightly tilted the direction back to the estate, and it had even made a depression into the platform for an easier to find to maintain a foothold.

"Karn Eldricksen." The man finally stated once the platform was speeding back towards the estate. "Alchemist of Meldoran, but from what I can gather... This place we are in now, isn't Meldoran." He spoke his words more of a statement than a question. "And what are the names of Tathi village's heroes?"

"The one in the green hair is named Dalina. She follows... uhh... him." She pointed at you. "As this guys is one of the heroes of this world, the other girl before is one of them too, that one's name is Rosalie." Amia replied. "I don't know the tentacle girl's name though."

"It is rude to point at others, Amie." Karn said. Amie rolled her eyes though and didn't respond.

Once nearer the mansion, the ground in front of the speeding platform suddenly gave way, as the platform lowered and sunk into the ground. The group was still moving however, and soon enough you found yourself underground. As you traveled that short distance underground, it seemed as if the dirt was simply displaced and moved around you. A few more short seconds and there was a stone wall in front of the group, but that too parted, creating an opening wide enough for everyone to go through. Everyone was pushed through the newly created opening, with the dirt that was pushing you soon turning to stone and floor which made up the underground of the state. Once everyone was inside the wall behind you closed up. Looking back, it looked as if the stone wall was never disturbed in the first place. There were lights in the room, and you realized that the lights was more akin to the ones back on Earth, it had the same kind of glow you would expect from fluorescent lamps.

There were some others in there as well, presumably the villagers of Tathi village.

"Is the mayor of Tathi village here?" Karn asked as he scanned the group. He then glanced towards you before the villagers could response. "A hero is here to save us."

"Jean's the name and this is Ren."  Said Jean as they sped towards the mansion.  Upon arriving the the shelter Jean looked around at the decor.  "Impressive, what makes the lights work?  You don't have electrical technology do you?  That would make you the most technologically advanced people in this world."

"The most technologically advanced?" Karn looked at you strangely. "From your statement, I am going to assume this new world we are in is quite backwards then. And how do you know of electricity, Jean? If this is as advanced as you claim, then I don't understand why you would know?" Karn asked curiously as he began studying your face. "Unless... This phenomenon that brought my village here, isn't so rare?"

"But yes. These are powered by electricity. Specifically we use alchemy to continually charge and replenish a series of metals and elements. We call it electrochemistry."

"Simple, I'm not from here.  I don't think any of the heroes actually are.  From what I understand the nations of this world seem to be somewhere around medieval or renaissance levels of technology...  If those have any meaning to someone that may be from a world that never had a medieval or renaissance period."  Replied Jean. "Though there is all the magic instead.  The people's skill with that seems to be a cut above yours if what your daughter tells me is true."

"Meldoran, the country where this village and its inhabitants are from, was a country that developed off of alchemy and the sciences that off-shoot from it. It was mainly due to the efforts of the large Alchemy families, the Eldricksen's included, that had been ushering this age for the past hundred years. The first alchemy-powered railway systems would have launched this year, but since we're now here, it looks like I'll be missing that."

"If the magic in this world is really that impressive, I'd very much like to see how it works. I did notice that tornado earlier. I had thought the demons must have created it somehow, was it from one of you?"

"The goddess grants us this magic." Dalina responded. "Sorry... It's a bit hard to understand all the words you are saying, I'm still trying to get used to the accent too. But I was the one who created the tornado earlier. But... Believe me, compared to Jean, and the other hero, that spell was nothing."

Karn nodded. "Meldoran had its own hero too a few decades ago, so I could understand... But the goddess? There is a religion back in my world that worship a goddess, though, I doubt we are talking of the same one."

Eventually one of the townsfolk had come up.

"Amie! Karn! You're back. Thank god..." The man who spoke was a heavily-built man, sporting a trimmed beard, and though was large, was a healthy mix between muscle and fat. "I'm the mayor of this village. We've been holed up here in Karn's mansion when the demons came down from the mountains." He reached his hand out to you in a handshake gesture. "You're the hero little Amie found us then?"

"Not one, but two heroes actually.  The other is fighting the demons above the vllage right now.  I came here to get you all moving.  A larger horde of demons marches for the town and as easily as we might have been able to handel the demons that were already here, we are not in great enough force to confront what comes."  Said Jean to the mayor before turning back to Amie's father.  "We will need to discuss this a bit later once we are in a less precarious situation.  For now, what supplies do you have here?  Do you have any wounded?  What about wagons that we could use to carry everything we can out of the town?"

"An army marches towards us? My goodness." The mayor replied shaking his head as he patted his forehead with a napkin. "Most of the villagers homes were abandoned, and such most of their belongings. The only thing anyone has on them is what you see on us now. Did you and the other hero take care of the other demons in the village? There are raging fires in some of the homes that the demons were creating when we were fleeing... But we may be able to salvage the important things." He then stared you in the eye.

"How far are the demons? How long do we have for evacuation? Our village's pride and joy, the Eldricksen family, really are the only treasures we have. Them and their alchemy. Some of the residents have their own wagons and horses, but I've seen a demon kill poor Rich's steeds as we were fleeing, it's been long enough that I doubt anything lives on the other side of the river. The wagons, if they haven't been burned, should be there though. Our host, Mr. Eldricksen, has a few wagons of his own. And we've made a count, there 126 of us here, from 232... And among the 126, there are 11 wounded, only 3 of those are wounded enough that they'd need help or a stretch to move around."

"Perhaps 80 miles away, but that is merely the innumerable horde we could see from the skies as we flew to the village.  I'm not sure how quickly the demon's forces are moving but a small and fast advance force could be here at any time if the flying demons already infesting the skies are only the tip of the iceberg.  I don't know if they even take breaks or make some semblance of camp so for all I know they could be here tonight.  Our relieve force will be here by nightfall and that is the latest that we should plan on leaving by."  Jean surveyed the room to get an idea of what kind of shape the villagers were in.
"I don't know if we have time for a firefighting operation unless you have something that could quickly douse the flames.  I'd say that what burns must be left to burn.  Don't worry about not having enough horses.  If we can just chain together what wagons we can into a train I'll see to it we get out of here.  As for you Mr Pride and Joy..."  He said looking to Amie's father.  "Since you have the most intact house, I'm guessing you still have some assets that can be saved.  Start gathering what you can.  This might sound petty but let's face it: you look like you're loaded so everything that can be sold or bartered with that we can carry needs to go.  Gold, jewels, precious metals...  You know the deal.  Also, anything you have that can teach people about your alchemy would be a great boon to this world.  That means books, diagrams, whatever unique tools you would need reverse engineered."

"Very well... I wasn't planning on leaving this estate, but if the demons are on their way, even if I close off the upper levels, this underground basement lab would be found. I'll begin collecting the fragile things. Amie, I need you to collect all my research." He then turned towards the mayor. "Have everyone else gather what they can. start with my estate."

A crowd of people had begun to gather at the entrance, and filing themselves in the room to better listen.

The mayor nodded as he patted his forehead again. "Everyone, you heard the hero. Mr. Eldricksen has offered the use of his wagons. There will be no firefighting exercises, and if your homes are destroyed, be careful and do not go in. We don't want to lose any more lives than we have... Right now is not the time for mourning as according to the hero," he glanced at you, "a hoard of demons is on their way here now. Bring only your most important belongings. The demons could be here anytime from tonight or a few days, but we need to be able to go as soon as possible."

The mayor shook his head. In a quieter voice he spoke, only you, your companions, Amie, and Karn were able to hear. "I hope we make it out of this alive. There are some that have lost their families, not just the fact we're cut off from our own country." He shook his head.

Jean responded to the mayor in an equally low tone. "I can't make that promise.  As I said a battle continues to be fought above and I don't know how long our forces might last.  They are quite significant;y outnumbered. any dallying will cost lives."  He then spoke in a louder voice so that the villagers could hear.  "Good.  Now, we need to get going as quickly as we can.  Mr Eldricksen, if you could show me  what you think the most fragile things are?  I may have a way of ensuring that they are safe from being damaged during the evacuation."

[info]Will try and fit as much of the fragile objects in my Inventory ability as possible then help Amie collect the research.  Will also be keeping an eye out to see if I notice anything that might be particularly valuable that we could take along that I can fit in my inventory ability.

"Come follow me." Karn said simply as he beckoned you onwards as he himself started towards in the further sections of his lab. Ren had begun to follow, along with Dalina, though Amie stopped her short.

"Hey Dalina? Can I actually borrow you for a bit? There's a lot of research, and books, and loose leaf papers and diagrams scattered about. I don't think my father really trusts any of the other villagers as much, but you can help me gather everything?"

Dalina glanced towards you for a moment, but then back to Amie.

"Well... Alright. Jean! I'll be helping Amie with getting the research."

Karn eventually lead the way into his lab, and soon came towards something that looked like a bank's vault. Or at least, the stereotypical one you see in movies back on Earth. There was no visible locking mechanism, but he did place his hand on a section of the vault, and after that it swung open. Inside was a variety of both sealed containers, vials, and even more metallic boxes.

"The Eldricksen family's collection of rare liquids and metals. Many of these were refined manually through alchemical magic and painstakingly collected by my predecessors. Amie would have eventually inherited this all." He glanced towards you. "Some are volatile compounds, do not drop them or move them around vigorously."

QuoteState what you do, if you plan to handle or touch any of them, do a DEX check for the entire process. State whether or not Ren is helping.

"Ren, go ahead and help Dalina.  I should be able to do this work myself."  Commanded Jean as they stood in front of the vault, waiting for Amie's father to access the room.  Once it was opened, Jean whistled at the contents as they were explained to him.  "Quite the fortune you must have here.  Now, if this works, don't be surprised.  I'm pretty sure the items I am holding onto are safe.  Wherever they might be.  I haven't had much of a chance to test this power out yet."  Jean approached the various containers, picked one up, then tried to will it into his inventory, taking care not to jostle it.  "Inventory."  He whispered, checking the status of his capacity as he started his work.

The moment you willed something into your inventory, it disappeared. Karn was watching intently.

"Magic of this world? Or the so-called heroic blessings?" Karn asked as he watched the containers disappear one by one. Through this you realized that you needed to be physically touching the objects that you wanted to store. Containers, or anything container-like that you touched had its own contents whisked away. Looking at the menu it listed the items separately, though indented for items that were inside containers.

After around 30 minutes of work, you managed to collect everything, while Karn helped bring out some of the other items, though you noticed that he kept a few vials for himself on his body. Altogether you managed to pick up around 10 kegs, at least a hundred metallic containers ranging from 1 ft by 1 ft, to much heavier 3 ft. by 3 ft. containers. And hundreds of jars and vials containing various liquids. You didn't find the work to be strenuous at all, you didn't even really have to pick up each of the items, as touching them and willing to put them into your inventory worked just the same.

Eventually you managed to store his entire collection into your Inventory. You had a large amount of capacity remaining, but due to the metals you placed inside, the weight limit quickly started to run out.

"It is a blessing I think.  Come to think of it, you seem awfully unimpressed by the magics of this world."  Noted Jean as they finished collecting the materials.  Patting his hands together he motioned for Karn to take the lead.  "I assume we should go help Amie and the others with their task?"  As they got going he continued where he had left off.  "I personally was quite surprised by magic when I first encountered it.  Is there similar magic back in your world?  Or is it all alchemical in nature?  Where I come from we had no magic.  No alchemy either. or at least not the kind of alchemy you practice, as far as I know."  His mind drifted to The Book.  From what little he had read so far it seemed that the ravings of history's maddest quacks had enough truth to them.  Perhaps the mercury poisoned brains that history mocked were on to something.  Something he should try looking into later when he had a chance.  "Instead we had advanced technology that was quite beyond what they have here and even what you had in your world.  You seem to have a good grasp of the atomic nature of the base elements.  We ran with that to a technological level maybe four or five centuries beyond what they have in this world or at least what I have traveled of it.  Which isn't much mind you."

"The magics in this world is impressive, though your companion, the green-haired one, mentions it comes from the goddess. Written in their holy book in my world, it was said that there were magic casters that could bend the 'elements' to their will, those rudimentary ones of fire, air, earth, and water. But these days, it is science that prevails through, even alchemy, though makes use of that power within us called mana, that gives creation to the mysteries, is centered around a series of learning and experimentation over the course of centuries when alchemical magicka was first discovered. Before that time were tales of casters, though, whether or not they truly existed is a different matter."

"The magic to control the winds to create a tornado is fascinating, but I'm sure, given enough time and research, one would be able to figure out how the phenomenon comes to be. As for whether or not the 'goddess' really aids with? Who knows. I was never one to be much into religion, but with this being a new world, who is to say that there is entity that is so far removed and powerful from you or me, that they could be considered something akin to a god? Perhaps even this creature can have some control over the magic in this world, and even 'grant' that magic to their 'followers'. Do you see where I'm going with this? I prefer to view things objectively, rather than take someone's word for granted. I try to teach Amie these same fundamentals, for it is a set that will see her succeed in her life as an alchemist. It would have granted her success in our original world, and our country of Meldoran. Ours excelled in the composition, reactions, and breakdown of the true elements. Our magic gave way to that thinking, and the use of alchemy has indeed advanced my culture far."

He began to step out of the vault, and even once you were out, he didn't seem to close the vault doors either.

"Gathering all of these was much faster than I expected it to take. Likely Amie and your companions are still going through the research. However, here is actually one more thing I must attend to... alone. I will meet the rest of you shortly where the research notes are gathered."

Jean turned back to Amie's father.  "Got some family secrets eh?  Skeletons in the closet?  Yeah sure, have fun with that.  Though I'd love to know what you're up to we really don't have the time to play cat and mouse on this.  I would hope you're not so vain as to believe that you're the only one with secrets here.  After all, you and I seem to be pilgrims in an unholy land.  If you pardon the religious statement."  He turned his back to Karn.  "I hope you don't turn out to be the betrayer type.  If you need my help with whatever you're doing, you know where to find me."  With that he set off to find his companions, admiring the craftsmanship of the mansion as he walked its halls.

The man waved his hand dismissively. "Nothing you have to worry about. It's something only the head of the Eldricksen family know, and when Amie is of age, she too will have that burden." As you began to leave, Karn headed back inside the vault. And once he was in there, he closed the doors behind him.

As you walked through the halls, you realized that the place was very much richly decorated. However, either the Eldricksen's chose not to, or some other reason, but there were no gold-plated or gold decorations of any sort. Instead, there was an abundance of crystals and gems, some of the vases on display looked to be cut from a single piece of gem too, though with their size, you doubted how that would be possible. Much of how the mansion itself was build seemed to reflect a strangeness to it as well. Although aesthetically it reminded you of an estate that was built perhaps in the early 20th century, or 19th even, there were some parts that seemed strange. One example was that the floorboards were made from a single sheet of wood, or at least you could not find any evidence of planks being involved. So too were many of the other tables and furniture. They were all just a single piece of material that looked more like they were shaped into their current form rather than built with traditional methods. Seeing how most of the mansion was like this, it was a curiosity to what 'traditional' even meant to the Eldricksen family.

Most of the other villagers were still on other floors, taking items, then placing them into the few wagons that Karn owned. Though, with the amount of decorations, furniture, and things inside the mansion, you doubted that a few wagons would really do much to lighten the over-all load.

QuoteMany of these decorations are expensive, you can totally choose to stuff them. We'll use your prior appraise roll if you do, and we'll just figure out exact monetary amounts later once you unload (or if you plan to 'forget' you had them).

Soon enough you made your way to where Dalina, Amie, and Ren were. They had what looked to be a wooden cart which was already full of various books.

"Hey hero, sorry this is taking awhile... I'm familiar with a lot of father's research and library of books, but... There's just too much, and we don't have that many wagons. Many other villagers are running back into town to salvage what they could and bring back wagons, if any weren't damaged by the fire. But we already have one wagon full of nothing but father's books. So I've been trying to be picky going through these... There's also still a lot of research papers, but I'm not sure what can be thrown, or what is important. Father with you?"

Jean admired some of the gemstone crafts as he walked down the halls.  Taking a sideways glance he tried to slip some of them into his inventory.  "Waste not I guess.  I wonder if the Dungeon Core can use these for points."  He said as the items disappear.  Finally he came to his companions.  "Well I think I can help there." Said Jean as he looked at the piles of papers.  "Inventory."  He said, checking to make sure he had enough space as he proceeded to put the papers into his inventory.

You began to shuffle both stacks of papers and some notebooks and books into your inventory. After sometime of letting Amie go through them, you eventually managed to fit everything. There were still many books that were remaining, but it was around this time that some of the villagers came back with more wagons. So even the rest of the books began to be packed and readied.

When you had time, the mayor started to explain the situation.

"Altogether, we have 21 wagons, 4 of those have a canopy. However, we only have Karn's horses, 8 of them. Meaning we won't be able to bring all of them with us. We've already filled up 5 of the wagons. Three wagons, filled with nothing but books. The rest of the villagers have begun collecting anything else they can fit easily, but some villagers went back to their homes to salvage what they could."

"Okay, have the horses pull what they can.  Rig the other wagons into a train.  I need to see something."  Said Jean as he finished putting the research into his inventory.  Going outside to the wagons he waited for the villagers to finish connecting the wagons together.  Walking up to the lead wagon, he grabbed the yoke and put it over his shoulders.  Griping either end with his hands he tested his strength on the wagons.

Once you went outside, you couldn't help but notice it seemed to be colder than before. At the very least a chill wind blew over. You couldn't help but notice that some snowflakes had started to appear in the surrounding area. None of it was sticking however. The skies above too seemed to be much darker than how they were in the fight against the demons in town.

Some of the villagers looked at you in confusion, but with prompting from the mayor, they eventually followed as they were ordered to. The process of getting each of the wagons took some more time, however, eventually 13 of the 21 wagons were hooked up and rigged together. The other 8 wagons had their own horse to pull them. Once the wagons were rigged up together with rope slung from the front end of the wagon, and tied to the back of the next one, you took your place at the front. You grabbed the yoke then and began to pull with all your might.

It was tough at first, but the wagons started to move. The contents of the combined wagons were perhaps up to 13,000 lbs, and everyone stared in shock as the wheels began to roll.

[info]Heroic Action Pointed earned[/info]Karn raised his eyebrow in approval. The rest of the townsfolk cheered.

After successfully pulling the wagon train a couple yards, Jean set down the yoke.  "Good.  You can get moving then.  Everyone that can, start heading south with the horse drawn wagons.  Dalina, you should guide them from the skies.  Keep an eye out for the relief force.  As for me...  Does anyone have a bow and arrows or maybe a crossbow?  I think our allies above could use some help.  Anyone that's a good shot can stay and try to pick off some of the demons and help cover our forces retreat."  Jean turned to the skies and shouted as loud as he could.  Hoping to catch the attention of the other hero.  "Hey!  Hero!  The villagers are starting to evacuate!  We need to begin our withdrawal!"

There was a couple of people who had bows and arrows. And some of them attempted to aim up to the skies and fire, though with their poor marksmanship, the fact that the fighting was occuring 500 ft. in the air, and the targets were small, it didn't seem likely they would hit.

When you called out to the hero, you weren't able to tell if she had heard you or not, though, you did recognize her red dragon flying in formation with the rest of the dragonknights. You noticed too that the wind priests had begun to follow in formation with Rosalie as well, and had stopped being reckless in their dives.

"They'll be able to catch up with us quick, being on the birds or their dragons." Dalina commented. "There are less flying demons up there too. If they need to escape, I'm confident they'd be able to."

"Alright Dalina, you know them better than I do.  Hey!"  He barked at the villagers that had tried to fire at the demons above.  "It's time to go.  Keep an eye out for and demons straying too close to the caravan in case they try to harass our evacuation."  With that he turned back to the wagon train and once again grabbed the yoke and set out hauling the train of wagons to follow after the villagers that had already departed.

Using the same spell as before, Karn moved the earth to propel him forward to the front. "We can ask the rest of the villagers... Though surely the fires would have burned down half of the village already. We brought back most of what was valuable from my estate. Of course, the estate itself is valuable, not to mention the materials that had gone into building it... But it can all be replaced." He turned towards Rosalie.

"Do you have the dragon-carried platforms that was common back in my world? I do notice that yours do not have collars on them... But I suspect how things are in this world might be different. With the reliance on magic, do you perhaps have some sort of geas spell on them?"

Valeriya snorted, then she spoke, still in her dragon form.

"Your daughter thought the same when we first met with her. Nothing like a geas, no coercion. Rosalie and I are partners."

Karn raised an eyebrow. "They even speak when not spoken to." This earned him a glare from the red dragon but the man ignored it. "The dragon platforms are constructs that one or up to 4 dragons can carry. It was designed for transportation of both goods and people without the need for something more complex such as an blimp powered by dragons. There are parts of my estate's construction, especially the basement, which had reinforced titanium along its perimeter. Normally I wouldn't be worried, as Titanium is fairly easy to come by, especially if you're an alchemist. But I worry about the knowledge in this world. Is titanium, the metal, something this world even has?" With no one else around who seemed to be a native, Karn looked specifically at Rosalie and Valeriya. "You may speak."

Valeriya responded, though, her tone as low, and her eyes continued to glare sharply at the man.

"If it's a type of metal, I've never heard of it. When it comes to weaponry, we use iron, mithril, and rarely orichalcum."

"I feared as much... But with the little time we had, I wasn't sure if we would have the time or the transportation to bring what I have in the estate that surround the basement. I would neat to break down and mold each of the walls and bars to storable blocks, not to mention the weight of all of it together would have covered the entirety of these wagons. Apart from that, there are a lot of furniture too, though, those are more mundane, such as wood, ivory, and silver."

"And how will you bring back all the goods? If we can gather the titanium panels, that would be most beneficial." Karn then turned towards you.

"Hero, use your ability to bring forth as many magnesium as I might have had in the vault." Karn then turned towards the back of the caravan and shouted out her daughter's name. Once Amie was near enough he continued. "Amie and I can transmute the materials into a usable platform. Amie, I suspect you still know the composition of the lightweight magnesium alloy?" Karn asked to which Amie nodded. "Afterwards, Amie and I will accompany our dragon-riding hero back towards the estate."

Karn then turned towards you, expecting the requested materials.

"Didn't have a plan, just wanted to salvage what we could. As for your accompaniment, it is not up to me if one of the dragons is willing to let you ride along with them. Things are different than they are in your own world. However, since I am sure that they have empathy for the village and the situation, someone would be willing if asked. The same goes for carrying a platform as long as it is done in such a way that respects them."

Karn was silent, and it was hard to tell whether or not he was actually paying heed to Rosalie's advice. Soon enough the materials were dumped back on the ground in their metallic crates, each of the requested materials that Karn wanted. With a snap of his finger, he then had Amie help begin the process of transmutation. Seeing them work, you suspected it would take some more time until they were done.

"Ve heard the hero!" Vitaliya called out to the rest of the wind priests hovering in the air. One of the wind priests volunteered for the job, and shortly after that he sped off southwards.

You continue the journey southward, soon enough the road headed southwards suddenly disappeared. You realized that this was the border of the territory that was once 'Meldoran', to the new world consisting of Mt. Velothia. The trees took on a darker hue as well, and the forests were much thicker. There was no more road, so travel became tougher. There were multiple problems the moment the road disappeared. The ground was uneven, making it harder to pull the caravan through. Trees that were in the way meant that the wagons had to follow a specific route through them in order for the wagons behind not to hit any of the trees. There were various other obstacles too, such as streams and sharp changes in elevation.

The tree made a low rumbling call as your spear thrust deep into the trunk of the tree. The strength behind the attack was powerful, and the fact that the spear was much much heavier than a regular one, meant that not only did it easily tear into the wood, it left a gaping hole as wood splinters exploded. It was injured. It retaliated, and on it second swing, its trunk managed to hit you. It managed to critically hit.

Ren had called out in alarm, but relaxed when she realized you weren't really that injured. Ren proceed to head towards the closest moving tree. The tree had attempted to swing at her, but it missed. Dalina on the other hand began to cast a spell.

"Goddess of Air! Your turbulent winds are a gale to your foes. Strike down your enemies! Air Strike!"

The slashing winds started to appear around the tree, chunks of its leaves and branches were torn off. It was badly wounded.

The giant tentacle was summoned, and immediately attacked the nearest tree. Three of its four attacks hit. In that single set of attacks, one of the trees was splintered down the middle, it still surprisingly managed to move, but you knew it was near death.

The treants began to move, but they all triggered an attack from the giant tentacle. All of its attacks hit. One of the trees was completely demolished. When it died however, this time around no notifications appeared for any levels.

Ren unleashed all 8 of her tentacles as the slimeling was left behind on the wagon. All 8 of her strikes hit, though the damage seemed reduced slightly from the tree's thickness. She managed to injure it.

Dalina continued her attack on the first tree, the blades of air managed to finally cut it down. When that tree fell, the last remaining tree that Ren was in combat with suddenly stopped moving.

As you made your way to the tree, it remained still and unmoving. You struck out then, and just like the previous tree, you pierced a giant gaping hole into this one, causing the rest of the tall tree to fall down. Ren quickly went out of the way. There was no other movement in the trees.

[info]Intelligence: 17
From all the previous times you've been killing demons, and now to this. You were able to figure out a pattern. It seemed that if each thing killed had a set amount of XP, it would be split among the combatants fighting it. Not only that, it seemed to only apply to those who actually fought with the particular target. However, you couldn't tell anymore conditions other than that. You weren't sure if all it took was a single prick of damage, or if there was a set amount, or what would happen if there was someone in the group who helped in the fight but did not choose to do any damage, as such was the case with many of the demons back in the village.[/info]

The moment you spoke the keyword 《Analysis》 , two things happened. First a new screen appeared in front of you. It contained information about the tree. What kind of tree it was, the composition of the tree, how old it was, what traces of magic it had on it, among many other things. Along with that information on the screen itself, was the same information flooded into your mind. You suddenly knew how the tree was animated, and what did it as well. There was a type of magic involved. Though you didn't recognize what kind specifically, you did know that there was a concentration of mana that had lived in the tree before its death, which, even now, was quickly fading. The source of the animation seemed to come from the first tree that had attacked you. There was a tendril of mana going from it to the other two trees that were animated. And the moment you had killed that tree, that link was broken, thus the animation creased. It would have been closer to say that the other two trees were an extension of the first one.

You were able to determine that this was a spear made from an elemental magicka spell. You also knew exactly how effective the weapon was. From the fact that it had an enhancement property to it, all the way to the cold damage that it could deal. From the information you were provided, you also knew that it was affected by gravitational magic of some sort. You had stats on its exact weight, along with measurements of each and every part that made up the spear. If you somehow managed to get all the components to make the weapon, you felt as if you could manually create it yourself with the aid of magic. Even the application of cold damage was something that could be mimicked.

Analysis on Renenutet
The moment you spoke 《Analysis》while focusing on Renenutet, you got a full analysis of her as well. There was an energy within her, that you recognize as Ki from your training with the Wind Priests, however, her's seemed to be darkened or tainted within her. Her level of mana was low on the other hand. You managed to figure out how she hardened her skin too, it seemed like her cells were in a constant flux, which explained why they were able to morph easily. Along with that, there was another kind of energy you weren't able to identify, however, according to the information displayed, it described it as 'SP', and seemed to be related with how Ren was able to morph her tentacles into various shapes, and also turn them metallic. However, you didn't get a sense that the SP came from her, it was more as if she was making use of it.

Analysis on Dalina

Using Analysis on Dalina, she seemed to be like any other human. However, you were noted to the fact that the energy described as 'SP' you detected in Renenutet seemed to be much more concentrated in Dalina. And unlike Renenutet, the 'SP' seemed to originate from her.

QuoteIf we find Rosalie lagging too far, we can consider spawning side threads for random forest encounters, but I'll be proceeding forward with yours as normal and just hope everything fits in the end.

Your journey continued without meeting anymore of the trees from before. You notice the woods changed again, it was as if the type and species of trees changed from one kind to a different kind. The trees had been browning due to being in the fall, but as you proceeded to trudge through the forest, all of a sudden they changed into a sea of evergreen trees - much more similar to the ones that surrounded Mt. Velothia. As you were familiar with it, and it had been explained to you a few times, it was likely due to the effects of the Shifting.

It was during the travel through the evergreen trees that Dalina called out to you.

"Jean! I see the the rest of the soldiers on foot. I saw some movement earlier, but I wasn't sure until we got close enough due to the canopy. But that's definitely the rest of them..."

Location: Forests north of Mt. Velothia
Date: Day 7 (Jean), Day 9 (Rosalie) - Time: Some number of hours into travel

"Ahoy there!" Captain Charles called out after he and the rest of the soldiers were visible. Like planned, they carried with them plenty of wagons and horses. "The wind priest came into contact with us sometime back, we've been expecting you, hero. A couple of the wagons we brought were empty expecting something like this, so we can just harness those horses to these wagons instead, and lighten that load a bit. I didn't believe it when the priest said you were pulling these many wagons at the same time... But... I guess that's heroes for you."

He scanned the skies. "Just the wind priests. None of the dragonknights? That means Rosalie and the others are still trying to get materials from their refugees village then... I hope they didn't run into any trouble."

Jean set down the yoke and stretched his shoulders.  While he was sure he cold probably have hauled the wagons all the way back to the mountain, it was still a nice break from the role of beast of burden.  "I believe there are some specific materials that Amie's family was trying to acquire.  It might take some time but their family magic seems to be pretty efficient so hopefully they wont take so long.  They also have the advantage of flight so they should be along soon."  He looked at the blood stains and bits of gore left on his robe from the battle earlier in the village.  "I don't suppose there is a river or pond near here that I could wash up at while you get the wagons and horses redistributed?  Got to look my best for a triumphant return after all."

The captain laughed. "I could imagine how that was like, my dragon and I used to be very particular about showing up the rest of the knights in my youth. Anyways, there was a stream we crossed perhaps half an hour back. Let's get our men to check any wounded or injured among the villagers, patch up what we can, then harness up those full wagons of yours to some of our horses here."

Jean made his way through the woods until he came to the stream.  He put his hands on his hips and surveyed the babbling waters.  Spotting a convenient location he went and moved some large stones to ring off and isolate a widening of the stream into a shallow pool.  The stones, while large, felt light in his hands and took little effort to pile.  Soon enough he had his bathing pool ready and with a cast of "Scalding Water" his bath was drawn.  He stripped off his clothes and slipped into the pool with a sigh of contentment and watched the grime and gore wash off his body and into the water.

Ren had joined you in the pool as well. She didn't strip down, but she did watch you closely when you stripped your clothing off. You caught her licking her lips as well. Once you got into the pool, she decided to sit by next to you, wrapping one of her tentacles around you.

"Master, if you take off your clothes anyways... Why wear them in the first place?"

Dalina on the other hand sat a distance away, her back turned towards the rest of you, keeping a simple watch around the area, as she fed a small form of Gust some seeds.

"Hey Jean? Have you... thought about what we'll do to save everyone? I've seen you fight, and I really feel you can do a lot to help everyone. The other hero, Rosalie too. I wanted to ask if you think... it might be possible to keep an eye out for mother. I've sworn myself to help the hero, but if I didn't have that responsibility... I would be searching for her, to bring her back."

Jean ran a finger along the tentacle Ren had wrapped around him and put his other arm around her waist as he sank up to his neck in the makeshift rock pool.  "Societal taboos against public nudity are common in humans.  At this point it's a compulsion I guess...  Though I find in these moments of clarity it seems certainly less important and with my newfound abilities I doubt I have any risk of falling to exposure.  The battle with the demons has given me some measure of my insight back.  Not the full glimpse into the brain that being with the master gave me but something close...  Anyways, unfortunately if I am going to play the part of hero I will need to look the part of hero and that means clothes.  The people will probably be resistant to bowing before a nudist.  Speaking of...  Your clothes..."  He said as he ran his hand across her midriff under the water and felt where her navel should be.  "Are they actual clothes or part of your transformation abilities?"  He moved his hand to where her clothes met with the rest of her skin at her bosom and pulled slightly with a single finger to see if it gave way at all.

He reached over to his clothes and pulled them into the water, letting them start to soak away some of the stains.  "Hey Dalina, could you get some firewood together?  I can conjure flames but without fuel they don't last I think.  I'll need it to dry my clothes."  He asked as he massaged the blood out of his robe as best he could.  "As for my plans?  First we need to find out what the others back at the mountain make of the distance of the demonic horde.  If they have more or less always been at their current distance and only fell upon the village because it appeared nearby then they might not be marching on the mountain as I fear.  If that's the case then we can set out on our own and head for the Idoran Magic Academy, or what remains of it.  I told you before that I was summoned previously?  I need to find my original summoner.  There are promises I need to fulfill.  On the way we will need to look for some of the other temples.  Recovering them will go some ways in helping to bolster your own temple and help Marina out.  I don't see why we can't look for your mother as well.  For all we know, she might have had a similar plan.  You said that the temples had their own libraries.  Maybe your mother went to see if they held the locations of other summoning circles?  She also might have been successful in summoning a hero.  Though...  That leads to my next point of order.  Something that I wanted to keep away from the vigilant ears of the other hero and her entourage."  He finished doing what he could to clean his clothes and stood up to walk down the stream a little to heft a boulder back to the others and set it down where he planned to light the fire, spreading his clothes out on it before returning to the pool, casting Scalding Water once again to rewarm the pool before sitting back down with Ren.

"I told you before to be careful around the other hero, that there was a game afoot.  Well here is what I know: Ren and I were sent here by a...  being that is extremely powerful but apparently not quite a god.  When I encountered them they told me that gods were playing some game here and judging by the power the other hero displayed, my guess that they have a divine backer seems to be something that at least looks like it's in the ball park.  Their magic is powerful.  Far more powerful than mine and more versatile than what I have been gifted with...  She is dangerous and I think it is no accident that I was summoned the first time in immediate peril.  I was lucky with my second death that I was able to come back but I do not have the luxury of a fourth life, this was made clear to me.  I need to stay alive..."  He looked up to the sky as his arm around Ren's waist caressed her.  "To that end I need you both to sleep with me."

QuoteOh I should have noted you actually do know what Ren's clothes are like due to having used Analysis on her before. We'll just play this off as you confirming in person.

The moment you pulled on her clothes, they didn't quite feel like clothes at all. It felt almost rubbery, the same feeling as Ren's tentacles and the tentacles you summoned. Ren giggled as her 'clothing' did actually slip away, revealing one of her bare breasts.

"Master... They're not really clothes... But they seem like it too. I can choose to feel from them or not. Our other master designed and created me to be who I am. But it's through you that I seem to be able to expand on things I can do." Ren explained as she lifted up one of her tentacles, and transformed it into a shape that looked akin to a shield, then made it metallic. A moment after that, she turned it back to normal. "It's just the same with these..." Ren said as she too tugged on the clothing-like skin. "They are a part of me." With that, showing by example, the 'clothing' you pulled snapped back into place, then quickly got absorbed by her skin. A moment later, she brought the darker colored layering back out.

Dalina continued to keep her back faced towards you and Ren when you spoke, giving the two of you privacy. When you asked her to get firewood, she nodded and said she would, but waited a few moments as you finished talking. When you finished and continued to clean your clothes and set a place for the fire, that was when Dalina decided to get the firewood that you needed. Soon enough she had came back with a pile next to what you had created.

Quote"To that end I need you both to sleep with me."

"S-sleep with you?!" Dalina's eyes grew wide, and she blushed. "I m-mean... if it's needed I would s-spend all night-" Dalina furrowed her eyes, though she was still red. "W-wait... why? Do you just... umm... want to...?" Dalina looked confused.

"Oh, no not like that."  Replied Jean to Dalina's reaction. "That otherworldly being I mentioned seems to have rendered my sexual function inoperable as far as I can tell.  Even the lust brought on by the battle doesn't seem to be causing a stir in my loins.  Perhaps as a bit of irony that he gifted Ren to me while still keeping that v-card stuck firmly in my wallet."  He cast Conjure Flames on the pile of firewood to ignite the material.  "No...  That shop seems to be closed for the moment.  Though...  I wouldn't stop an underground rave from trespassing if you catch my drift."  He said with a wink to Ren.  "I meant that at night when we are most vulnerable we need to keep close.  Ren and I are interlopers here and unfortunately by traveling with us that makes you just as much a target.  Our guard needs to remain always up but we all have to rest some time.  If not for a need of actual sleep but at least to regenerate our magical powers.  So it's better if we all stay together.  Unlike the other hero, I can't bring any of us back to life and I am reluctant to rely on their generosity always being in stock.  So for your protection Dalina we will need to sleep together.  Anja too once we are on the road."

He got up out of the bath and went to check on his clothes.  "For the sake of propriety Anja will of course need to be in the bed farthest away but you and Ren will have your bedrolls right next to mine when we share our tent and when we are staying at inns we will all stay in the same room."  He shook out the almost dry robe and turned it over, then did the same with his pants and jerkin.  "You don't have to follow this course but this is a dangerous road, even without the potential of non-demonic forces working against us.  You did see what happened to the other hero's companion.  You know that danger is everywhere.  I can't have you or your sister dying."  He walked over to Dalina and put his hands on her shoulders.  "Besides, we can't have all of us dying before we find out what happened to your mother.  Our story can't end with all of us being murdered in our sleep."

Dalina chuckled forcefully. "W-well... I guess if it's for our safety..." She looked down to the ground, her face still flushed, even though you had explained the reasoning. She had been trying to avoid looking at you since you had no clothes on, but you saw her peeking at you. Her gaze seemed distant though, as if she wasn't really paying attention to the fact you were naked, but a moment of clarity came to her as her eyes widened, cheeks blushing again, as she looked away. "But you know Jean, telling me to sleep with you when you're all but naked. Jeez, anyone would get the wrong idea."

Her eyes looked away, she continued to speak, her tone a bit more serious. "There's something I've been curious about... We never really got to talk about it much because everything's been hectic the past week. But this was your second time being summoned, right? You mentioned powerful beings, but who? I still find it almost hard to believe it wasn't any of the goddesses who brought you here. By that I mean.... The Goddess of Light, or even the one of Air, Water, Earth, or Fire. And.... why would things be more dangerous being around you?"

"And your first summoner... I'll be with you on your journey of course, but you know my reason why I would have explored these lands even without my duties. It's for my mother. What... promises did you have to fulfill that's so important? And also... if its the Idorian Magic Kingdom... How do you know your first summoner is still even alive after all this time? From what I remember of the reports we get once a year, the survivors of that kingdom are few."

Gust perked his ears up, and at that moment, the bird transformed into its larger form, staringly warily at the woods. You too heard rustling. It may have been the wind, but it was coupled with the fact that you swear you had seen one of the tree trunks move. Due to the fact that you had fought with one earlier that day, the moving trees were fresh in your memory. The distance you had seen the movement was perhaps about 100 ft away further into the trees

The moment you had used 《Analysis》, you got more information that was much different than when the tree was 'dead'. But judging from the flood of information, you knew this to be a creature similar to the one you had fought before. The 'tree' if it could be called as one had stopped moving, as if attempting to blend into the background, though your blessing managed to confirm that it was there lurking. There was something else however, much like with examining Ren, where you could find a trace of your own 'SP' in her. There was 'SP' too that was in the tree. The amount was far from what Dalina had. Much like Ren, who had none of her own 'SP', the tree didn't have any either. However, there were faint amounts running through it. It seemed to help the tree move, it was very much similar to amount of 'SP' Ren had whenever she would harden her skin or transform her tentacles.

QuoteI'll be setting the time from last fight to now to 1 hour, meaning after this encounter your defensive buff spell from Rosalie will wear off, along with your weight decrease on self. At the same time, you only earn +8 MP for awake regen.

The moment you cast your spell, the Treant began to move. At the same time, you realized there were other trees in the area that were moving as well that you didn't manage to spot the first time around. Altogether, there were 4 of them. They came primarily from the north as well, from the same direction the rest of the dragonknights had been. When you approached the tree, it attempted to swipe at you, but it missed completely. Your spear struck true, the damage seemed to be resisted a bit, but you still managed to stick your spear into the tree.

Behind you, Dalina started to mount Gust, and Gust soon took off, while Ren was catching up from behind.

The tree was completely immobile. The other trees started to close in. There were 8 more trees that had begun rooting themselves up.

Jean withdrew his spear and, aiming where he had seen its magical energies emanating from before, thrust as hard as he could into the tree which was now still enough to easily mistake for any of its non-animated neighbors.  As he heaved the spear out of the trunk, he turned to look at the other moving trees and with "Analysis" tried to see if he could figure out if one of the trees was controlling the others as the one they had seen earlier or if they were up against multiple enemies.

[info]《Analysis》on next tree (Uprooted Tree 3)
When you used the ability on the next closest, you realized that this was just one of the reanimated trees that the first tree had created. Judging from what you know, you knew that the limit of trees they could reanimate at any one time was two. With the number of trees in the area that were moving, it was safe to assume there were multiple assailants this time around.[/info]
QuoteStats are identical to the first tree you used Analysis on. However, does not have the other special abilities.

You can use Perception to quickly see the rest of the moving trees. Then roll Autohypnosis (if you don't have that, then regular INT). Succeed on both means you can tell in character which are animated trees, and which are the 'source' trees. Likewise, continue using Analysis per tree to figure out in character.

The tree completely unmoving, you used your spear to pierce it's trunk, ripping apart the top half completely, and allowing the tree's upper half to fall. At that same moment, two of the trees stopped moving.

Dalina casts her Air Strike, however, her spell missed. Ren attacks with 7 of her  tentacles, transforming them into scythe like appendages. However, her last tentacle was cupped in a ball, likely holding on to the slimeling.

The trees began to close in and attack. Three large rocks aimed straight towards Dalina. She wasn't able to dodge them, but Rosalie's spell that she had cast almost 6 hours ago was still surprisingly in effect, and the invisible force managed to slow down the rock's trajectory enough that Dalina was able to position Gust out of the way.

Two trees attacked you, but both their heavy and quick strikes missed you completely.

The rest of the trees started to attack Ren. Out of 5 attacks total from the 4 trees, 2 hit. Like usual, Ren hardened her skin at each impact point, reducing the damage, though each hit still was pretty heavy.

[okay]You leveled up.
You are now level 56.[/okay]It was then that one of the trees started to speak as it moved to attack you. Though, none of your other companions reacted.

You know which ones were the source trees, and which ones were animated. As you expected, there were 3 source trees remaining left. With 6 animated ones. One of the source trees was nearby, but the other two was at a farther distance.[/info]

"Hey fuck you, I was just trying to take a bath!  Summon Tentacle!  Weight Control!"  Yelled Jean in response, calling in the cavalry as he spun around and disabled the nearest tree.  "Focus on this one while it's unable to strike back!"  He said calling his companions' attention to the treant nearest to him.

The tree creature you used your ability on stopped moving, as the tentacle you summoned further in the distance started to attack the trees. It had transformed its tip into a long and sharp curved blade, and using it, it dug into the tree, leaving the tree badly wounded.

Dalina cast a spell then towards the same tree Ren was attaching. Her spell hit, and judging how damaged the tree was, it looked near death.

Ren attacks the trees around her, a few of her strikes heading towards the first tree, and the others moving on to the next one. The first tree was down, and her other 4 attacks went to the next tree, with all of her strikes hitting.

The trees started to close in. One of the trees moving towards your group started to double back and run towards the giant tentacle. Your tentacle took that opportunity to attack and hit. The tree still stood standing however, and managed to throw a rock towards Dalina, but missed. One tree attacked you with two slams, thankfully, the branch swings slowed down briefly due to Rosalie's spell on you earlier that day, and you were able to get out of the way. Finally, Ren had attempted to dodge and block 6 large swings at her, she managed to escape 1 of them, but 5 was headed straight towards her. Just when they were about to strike however, a small tentacle was summoned out of no where in between her and one of the slamming trunks, turned into a shield, and blocked the attack for her. A moment later, the tentacle disappeared. Ren still took damage from 4 of the swings however.

Jean aimed at the nearest treant's energy source and much like the one before, he struck at what he believed to be its most vital point with all his strength.  "Dalina, try to attack the same tree as my tentacle.  Those are the actual monsters.  These other trees are only animated by them.  Weight Control!  He commanded before aiming to disable another of the treants.

"I gotcha!" Dalina called out, beginning to cast another spell, this time turning Gust around to focus on the tree that your tentacle was attacking.

It was then that you killed the next tree, and another notification appeared.

[okay]You leveled up.
You are now level 57.[/okay]Two more of the trees stopped moving. Your giant tentacle attacked the tree three times, with each attack hitting. The third strike managed to tear the tree in half. With its fourth attack it attempted to his the next tree, but it missed. This left only 3 more moving trees.

Dalina's spell fired. Hitting the last remaining original tree, however even though her spell hit, the creature's natural armor managed to fend itself from the spell.

Ren continued to be busy with the trees she was fighting against.

The final tree wasn't moving due to your weight increasing ability.

Seeing an inability to reach the remaining treant with how far from him it was, Jean leapt to Ren's side, dodging a flying branch from the trees that were assaulting her.  He swung with his spear to intercept a whipping root aimed for her.  "Careful Ren, don't put yourself at risk fighting these puppet trees.  Dalina and my tentacle will take care of their controller soon enough."

"Yes master..." Ren said, switching from attacking, and transforming her tentacles into flat shapes, which you soon recognized as shields. She soon covered herself with the shield-like tentacles, and changed her movements to be a total defense.

Meanwhile, the tentacle attacked the tree, though the tree was only left badly wounded.

Dalina fired off another spell, her spell hitting, but not being able to get through the tree's natural armor.

Lastly, the trees began to attack again. One tree attacked Ren, and surprisingly still managed to hit. The other animated tree attacked the giant tentacle, though wasn't able to get through its tough hide.
