Biography: For most of his childhood life, Martin grew up in England's capital city of London, where he was raised by his father Nick, a police chief, and his mother Erica, a wedding planner and seamstress. His mother, being a perfectionist, always pushed Martin to do better, even at the times when he would do the best. In school, he started out strong, constantly taking the advice of his mother in order to be the best. Sadly, it was never good enough for her, and Martin began to grow an inferiority complex. His father, having a high position in law enforcement, always had a large set of rules he would strictly enforce, but even though Martin consistently followed them the best he could, no amount of obedience would ever be good enough. By the time he entered middle school, he had already figured out that he would more or less receive the same reactions from his parents if he failed to do the best he could at either following the rules or working on his schoolwork, and is showed quite prominently on his report cards. By high school, he had become quite a handful for his teachers. Although he couldn't quite bring himself to throw all his schoolwork in the trash (he did need something to do while he was there), he never once received grades in the top half of his class and he seemed to spend more time in detention than in the classroom. Sometimes he would also get grounded, but often his parents were more interested with their jobs than they were about Martin's future. Then he decided to take things a step further.

During his junior year of high school, Martin joined a gang, feeling more acceptance there than he felt from his parents. Within the next year, he ran away from home and lived with the gang. There, he grew a lot tougher, learned what it took to get what he needed in the real world, and gained resources he never would have had under the care of his parents. Over the next couple of years, he came to hold a high position in the gang. By then, they were all ready to take their group even further and become an organized group of mercenaries for hire. The tie-breaking decision was up to Martin, and after a week of mulling it over, he finally told them he wanted it to happen.

The very next day, Martin met a woman. Her name was Emily, she was beautiful, and she actually turned out to like him back. As the weeks passed, they gravitated closer to each other until Martin spent more time with her than he did with the gang, who had given him a big role to play in the formation of the mercenary group. Annoyed at the developing love connection Martin was forming, they gave him a choice. He could either ditch the lady and become a mercenary with the rest of them or he could keep the lady and be kicked out of their group. He chose Emily. Displeased, they booted him from the gang, but that wasn't enough to compensate for the betrayal they felt, and they set out to separate the two. Sadly, this eventually resulted in the death of Martin's true love.

Desperate for revenge, Martin turned to the only person he had ties to that weren't associated with the gang: his father, who still held his position in the police. Of course, returning wasn't easy, seeing as he hadn't spoken to either of his parents since he ran away and he had pretty much been a criminal since then, but it turned out the police were also getting desperate, and Martin provided them with a huge lead that might give them the edge they need to finally catch the gang. Nick, being Martin's father, also was apprehensive about throwing his long-lost son in prison, despite the fact that he had incriminating charges against him. Instead, he offered Martin a deal. If he could help the task force to capture the gang members, the charges would be dropped. Martin agreed, and started by informing them of the gang's plans to transform into a band of mercenaries, prompting the task force to further pick up the pace. Martin located the whereabouts of the gang's headquarters, but soon learned that they had relocated since the death of Martin's girlfriend.

For three years, the continued to search with very little luck, and by then the gang had already converted to their mercenary organization. Finally, the police uncovered evidence on them and performed the largest bust Nick Pine had ever seen, imprisoning 25 of the gang members and confiscating hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of weaponry and other merchandise. However, they failed to get their hands on the mercenaries' leader, and they later came to find that the group had multiplied more than tenfold since they last heard of them; the members they imprisoned were mere peons compared to the rest of the organization. Still, they knew the information they received from them would give them a huge lead, and indeed it did. Since that day, they made six more busts with similar turnouts until they finally learned the leader's full identity and whereabouts. Anticipating the long-awaited termination of the group, they sent a small strike team with Martin to New Zealand to capture him.

Personality: Martin doesn't take crap from anybody, and if you met him in real life, that's probably the first thing you'd learn from him. He's not afraid to let a person, friend or not, know that he doesn't approve of the way they're acting, and his lack of a sense of humor on his surface usually has a negative effect on his social life. This was largely due to the fact that he was betrayed by his peers who, even though they held him high esteem and worked with him for years, failed to offer him the benefit of the doubt after one slip-up. In fact, their betrayal led to some of the darkest days of his life, and that gave him a taste for revenge along with a need for redemption.

His ability to solve problems quickly and think ahead gave him an advantage over his former peers once the time came that he decided to bring the police into the situation, but it was his resourcefulness that ultimately led him to become the man he is now. Despite the hatred he'd accrued for the gang he was kicked out of, however, he couldn't deny the fact that he learned many important tactics and lessons from them, including the ability to lead, and when he couldn't lead, to work together, to achieve a common goal. If he learns valuable information, he'll barely hesitate to tell his comrades, no matter what conditions he had to agree to in order to gain it.

Anyone who knows him would describe him as focused, and most who knew his past might call him obsessed. Since the murder of his girlfriend, one could say that his sole drive to keep on going in life was because he had become fixated on exacting revenge on the person responsible, and they would be almost entirely correct. It's true that his primary goal is to get revenge, but he also cared about finally growing close to his parents, which he never really had the chance to do as a child. Not only that, but he also needed to feel like he had made up for all the crimes he had committed while he served under the man who destroyed the love of his life. Revenge would be sweet, redemption would be relieving, and rebuilding a relationship would bring him the comfort he never had as a child. Any one of these goals would elate Martin to achieve, but he hopes to accomplish all three... and more if he could.
