Birthdays / Re: [Gandin] Birthday
October 05, 2016, 07:47:42 PM
Gandin, son of Gehin

"What is this?" Gandin was surprised when he was fishing around behind his bed after dropping one of his hand axes back there. He had found the hand axe, but not before stumbling upon a length of cable that he had no memory of acquiring. He pulled it out and saw nothing out of the ordinary about it. "An iron rope?" he questioned, holding it in his hand. "Where did this come from? And why?" He was stumped. Surely there was something he missed. He set the rope aside and began to reach back behind his bed again, fishing for any other treasures he might have lost in the great void below. There were many crumbs, a wishbone from some number of Thanksgivings ago, one of his Octavia plushes, a pinecone, and a few clipped toenails, none of which he cared much to clear out except for the plush, which he moved somewhere safer.

But with all this miscellaneous items just sitting there under his bed, he wondered what other treasures he might be hiding from himself beneath his very nose. He dove to the floor and shoved himself as far under his bed as he could fit, causing quite a bit of ruckus as he knocked his bed against the wall. There were a few storage cases that he quickly pushed out into the middle of his room so he could navigate further, but it wasn't until he pushed away his painting supplies from the gift exchange that he found a ribbon attached to a note that he definitely would not have been able to reach from atop his bed. "Aha!"

He unfolded the note and read it from under his bed with what little light he could.

'To Gandin, From the Guild of Galas'nor,' it read.

"Wait a second, how long has this been down here?" he asked himself. After all, wasn't this one of the things the Guild did for members on their birthdays? His birthday was months ago! This must have been why he didn't get a present! He had just lost it before even knowing he had gotten something. It must have been a long day for him to have missed a bow so bright before crashing into bed. What mission had he gone on for his birthday? It didn't matter. What mattered is that now he had some major apologies to make to some guild leaders for some nasty things he might have thought or said or done to or about them.

...Nah.

Double checking to ensure he hadn't lost anything else under his bed, he crawled out and shoved all his storage chests back underneath. The note wasn't all that descriptive, so he still wasn't sure what this cable was good for other than the standard stuff. Was it enchanted somehow? Could he cause it to grow in length? Could he control it with his mind? Could he use to punish Kin for his sins against the world? Maybe one of the guild leaders could tell him.

With that thought, he grabbed the rope, the bow, the note, and his pants and ran out the door to find one of them. It was starting to get late, so he hoped they hadn't all retired for the night, as Gandin himself was about to before finding the rope. Hopping down the hall as he stumbled to dress himself, he made way for the guild hall, where he expected to find either the higher-ups themselves or one of those weird guys that never seems to sleep who probably knew where to find them. When he got there, he was only slightly disappointed to find only the latter.

"Hey, uh..." he stopped for a moment, realizing he had no idea what this guy's name was. After an awkward beat, he decided to just skip that part. "Do you know where the people in charge of birthday gifts are?"

*enters 2 years too late*

I'm also interested in a Digimon roleplay if anyone is still into it. I'm heavily into the idea of combining the mechanics of the Tamers and Frontier plots. I always liked the idea of Biomerge Digivolution and the Spirit Evolution stuff is pretty neat, too. We can put our heads together and think of some cool stuff to put into it if we're still going about the idea.

Upon picking up the package, you feel a very feint understanding of it. Like you suddenly had an idea of what was inside that you didn't have before you touched it. It of course still didn't give away its contents. As you began to unwrap it, the understanding grew a tiny bit stronger, and when you finally got to see what it was, you realized why.

Inside the box of red and green wrapping was a most clairvoyant gift: a pair of Gloves of Object Reading! Isaák's handiwork was suddenly very apparent in the wrapping and the gloves' powers even showed you the shop owner he received them from.

Craft Universal Item, object reading; Price 3,000 gp.

DESCRIPTION

While wearing these gloves, the user can learn the details of an inanimate object's previous owner if he handles the object, as if manifesting the object reading power.

Isaák Amantes

Aghast, Isaák suppressed the urge to scoff when Kryas demanded the crystal Isaák had rightfully bestowed upon himself. Instead, he thought it better to simply play the game, play it cool, and play innocent. After all, he had an opportunity to acquire another gift hiding its own unknown treasures. He handed the box with its single crystal to Mr. Kryas Windsel, comforted by the notion that anyone who might have seen Isaák hide one of the crystals in his pocket certainly would have said something. Since no one did, he was certain that either no one saw or no one who did cared. He would consider it Kryas' punishment for trying to steal his gift.

"Go for it," he said as kindly as he could, "I've got my eye on something else over there." He brushed another lump of dung from his pants and sauntered over to the tree. A respectable selection of gifts still remained beneath it, each as mysterious and full of potential as the last. Three, really. Not a great amount to most, but certainly enough to Isaák.

Each was neatly wrapped, though by the looks of the blue one, the preparer was in a hurry to get it done in time. He quickly moved on from this one. The longer gift in green wrapping paper was certainly intriguing as well, wrapped by a true master of wrapping. Almost too good if Isaák were to speculate. Someone among them had been wrapping gifts for a very long time to be able to adorn one with such a high level of skill. Still, it fell just short of what Isaák looked for in wrapping. The third of these gifts, though a bit more gaudy than its companions, was unique in its appearance, being covered in a more patterned paper that had also been modified. What he really appreciated, though, was the holly. It was a minor detail, he thought, but it was quite a nice touch. After much deliberation, he decided the gift with the holly probably contained something nicer than the others. It was risky to take it so early in the event since it could so easily be stolen, but seeing the other gifts in the exchange, he decided it would be fair to take one of theirs should he lose this one.

And so, his decision was made. He took the gift and returned to his seat to open it discreetly, careful not to tear the paper, but rather untaping it and unwrapping it, even removing the holly bow to keep from damaging it.

Live Roleplays (OOC) / [Completed] Triple Bounty
August 12, 2016, 11:50:46 PM
The night was young. Many older folk were heading off to bed and some younger folk were merely just waking up. But the likes of Maeve, Vladimir, Golas, and Wolfrin were still much awake. Tranquility spread like wildfire throughout the guildhall until a shrill cry emanated from the sleeping area. Quickly, the four made way to the room the cry came from. When they got there, their worst fears had been confirmed. A minor character - Vienna - had seen a spider on her wall. She cried for them to kill it, and after the most epic battle the guild had ever seen, Maeve flew across the room and splattered its guts all over the wall. But what they saw was spooky: the spider's guts had a faint blue glow to them which faded over a few seconds until they looked like normal spider guts.

The next day, the four found a poster on the guild's bulletin board written in some kind of bluish glowy ink. It was for a missing wanted person. Interested in learning more about the glowy blue stuff, they took the mission on.

Together, the four traveled outward to a town called Barg a day's journey in some direction from Ternadan. On their way, however, they came across quite an interesting fellow. He seemed to think the fire was listening in on them and tried to get them to huddle closer to him. He read everything he said from a book he held and seemed only to whisper to them no matter what. He told them that the man they were taking the job for stole their wanted person, explaining to them that they had captured this bounty as the final bit of experience they need to reach the next tier in the collective union of bounty hunters. He told them to go on and pretend to help the man, but to report back to him afterward in a cottage at the edge of town.

So the four kept on, eventually reaching the strange town of Barg. The man they were looking for was quite easy to find, being the only person in town with a giant sign over his shop. They quickly identified him as Drak and went in to talk to him. He was long-winded, but ultimately what they took from the conversation was that Drak believed his bounty was stolen from him by the group represented by the man with a book they spoke to earlier. They inspected the shack he kept the bounty in. The lock was smash open and mangled on the ground and there was a single footprint outside the shack. Aside from that, there was nothing to go by. With this, the group bid Drak adieu. They asked around town to try and gather information about Drak, but everyone seemed to have contradictory stories about him and literally anything they were told was absolutely useless information anyway. Discouraged by this, they left town and headed off back to where bookman told them to meet up.

There, they found that the cottage was in fact the last place his group had kept the bounty. While inspecting this location, the group of four discovered some footprints that the man with a book hadn't noticed before. They led straight out of the cottage and into the woods nearby. Now having a lead, they instantly followed the footprints, taking a long trek into the forest before coming across a camp. Sitting on a log in front of a campfire was a really fat guy with a big hook. Vladimir snuck around to the tents while Golas made a fool of himself failing his stealth check. The fat guy didn't like being ambushed so much, so they ended up fighting. Vladimir cut open the tents to find nothing of interest inside. One of them was rigged with a bear trap. He and Maeve ultimately decided to disarm it by throwing a rock on top of it. It chomped shut and then exploded, destroying both tents.

Meanwhile, Wolfrin and Golas eventually defeated the fat guy with little trouble. He, too, exploded, dealing much damage to Wolfrin and Buddy. The explosions, it turned out, woke up fat guy's buddy, who began lobbing bombs at him. After finding his hiding spot, they started shooting arrows and stuff at him. Wolfrin decided to use a lightning attack, which blew up the mines this guy had placed around his tree, knocking it over. Chaos ensued as they fought him, but ultimately they defeated him without killing him. He told them their captured stolen missing wanted bounty was buried in a box beneath the fireplace. They began digging and found a box about a cubic foot in size. At first they thought the box was booby trapped, but learned that it wasn't and opened it up. Inside, it turned out, there was a portable hole, inside of which was their wanted man. They threw the bomb man inside and started back to the quest stuff.

They first went back to Drak's place, learning after a short exchange that Drak had actually set the bounty free near the other bounty hunters, knowing they'd catch him, so he could blame them for thievery. It didn't work out, but the four decided to give him the bounty anyway since that was why they took the mission... until they learned he didn't have the money to pay them. With that, they took their rewards and headed off to the other bounty group to drop off the bounty.

The group's reward was the 200 gold reward from the bounty plus 300 gold for each of them, for a total of 1400 gold. Additionally, the Galas'norians were able to find that the two they had saved the bounty from were also wanted and known as Roadhog and Junkrat. They were together worth another 550 gold.

Cherubi

At last the Cherubi finally stopped bouncing, but before she could even gain her bearings again, the human pounced like a sleep-depraved cat, sloppily wobbling as he lunged through the air. The Cherubi hadn't enough time to get out of the way, even though the whole scene felt like slow motion. Every detail was forever imprinted in the Cherubi's memory. Though in the midst of it all, she maintained the presence of mind to try and catch a glimpse of the sphere that had absorbed her brother. She squinted, watching the ugly ape thing grow nearer and nearer. Unfortunately, he had concealed it well. There was no such ball in sight. And even if there was, what would she do at this point? Oh how she wished her friends and family hadn't high-tailed it out of the area at the first sight of these two creatures. She desperately needed their help. This was perhaps the end for life as she knew it.

But then something both miraculous and ignominious happened, granting favor to Ground Cherubi. In his obsessive greedy fervor, the human apparently had lost grip of the ball and dropped it as he lunged for the Cherry Pokémon. Ground Cherubi wouldn't be captured this day! But there was still a giant hairless monkey hurdling at her at alarming speeds. She had to do something quick! And perhaps she had the perfect idea!

Preparing for his landing, the Cherubi spun around, whipping him with her tail just as he had come into range. The juicy miniature berry at the end of her tail slammed right into his face with almost as much power as she could possibly muster. The satisfying thud that could be heard throughout the are almost felt like enough to make up for not being able to save her brother, but she couldn't stop even now, lest she never see her brother again.

Kathos Sigon

Sting took their attacks well. Even though he was defending against two opponents, his type advantage meant he may as well have been fighting one of them. Having a partner to help fend them off was just icing on the cake. Sigon honestly felt a little bad for doing this to the poor Meditite, but he had given them the choice and they accepted. That was the only way he could justify what was going to happen.

"Parfait!" Sigon called out. What he was going to have the Togepi do was far beyond what was needed in a battle like this, but there was always that chance one of them would get lucky with one of their attacks. He opted to take precautions just in case. "They look like they could use a Charm!" He would have liked to use Growl instead and get them both at once, but having Parfait run out to get them in range would defeat the purpose of keeping out of harm's way.

"Now Sting! Get 'em with a Fury Cutter!" Overkill? He hoped not. But he did want to give the two Meditite a taste of the power they could have if they allowed him to train them. Swords Dance would have been a better opening move, but the attack that followed would definitely be overkill.

Cherubi

The Cherubi squirmed in the human's arms, try to no avail to break free. It was in a panic. It's puking hadn't worked, although it did a number on the trainer. If Ground Cherubi could do that attack again so soon, he certainly would.

But things were suddenly getting even worse! Now the Sandshrew had joined in to the fray and was holding her down just as tightly as the human! Now was definitely the time panic! She squirmed even more this time, trying with everything in her to break free of the duo's gasp, but alas, she was not strong enough.

But there was something she could still do! With a mighty thrust, she kicked her foot out and planted it right in the middle of the human's face. It was hugely satisfying feeling the thump against her stumpy legs. He ought to be out for the count after that one! Right?

Wrong! The human, feeling no remorse or pity, lifted the berry Pokémon high above his head and then smashed her against the ground like some kind of rag doll. The pressure was nearly enough to knock her out cold, and she thought that was the end, but her body's integrity was a lot higher than she thought.

Instead of splattering all over the ground like any normal berry would, she bounced. She soared off the ground like a bird, reaching heights beyond her imagination. The ground grew further and further away until... gravity. She came crashing down again like any regular basketball. If nothing stopped her, she would bounce away and never be able to save her brother! There had to be something she could do! But what? There was nothing to grab hold of and she hadn't the dexterity to land on her feet. She hated to admit it, but she be at the mercy of the human who bounced her in the first place after this one. What a horrible fate she had had thrust upon her!

Kathos Sigon

The Wingull were relentless, swooping in from every direction and then running out of range as fast as they could. It didn't seem to be working as effectively as they'd like, however. One of them was already down for the count after a nasty sting from Bolt and another seemed injured, which presented a good an opportunity as any.

Tracking the injured Wingull as best he could, he grabbed a Poké Ball out of his pocket, waited for the best moment he could spot, and threw it with as much force as he could spare with his good arm. Wingull wasn't exactly the most desirable of Pokémon, but if he was going to catch them all, it was still a necessity nevertheless.

His job wasn't done, though. That still left two more of the water birds to deal with and a confused Sting, which was probably more dangerous than a regular one. With that in mind, he couldn't order it to attack. But he didn't want to just leave him sitting there, either.

"Sting!" he called, "Use Swords Dance!" A regular move like that wouldn't be too dangerous to perform, would it? He could have Parfait try to attack them, but with his only attacking move being rather unreliable, it was perhaps not the best idea. Although he probably could have had Togepi do something about how hard they were hitting. If Sting didn't snap out of it soon, that would be a better alternative to watching the sword hurt itself. Boosting his own attack power didn't hurt, though.

Kathos Sigon

Whether because of confidence or not understanding their type disadvantage, the two Meditite accepted his challenge. Sigon felt kind of bad about it now, but it was too late to change his mind. He was going to commit and he was going to win, and hopefully the Meditite would be good sports about it.

"Well, Sting. Parfait. You guys know what to do!" He made his way out of the battle area while his Pokémon assumed their own battle stances. Parfait tended to have more of a support role and thus did his stuff from the back. Sting was the main attacker, and he wasn't afraid to take a hit. He assumed his position much nearer to his opponents.

Whether or not he would have had the chance to attack first anyway, Sigon felt it fitting to allow the Meditite the honors of the first move.
